Welcome to Camp Chthonic

Camp Chthonic is a new camp for any and all mythological halfbloods regardless of parentage (or even pantheon). The entrance to the underground camp is the Hidden Gem Cafe and it can move to wherever it is needed.

Camp founders Nico di Angelo and Alabaster Torrington would like to extend an invitation to your PJO OC to be a Camper or an Ambassador:

As you can see there is a greenhouse for growing plants and a great hall for camp council and events. There is also a diverse range of cabins. Treehouse cabin, waterside cabin regular cabins with outdoor lighting, regular cabins with minimal outdoor lighting, and hey, a literal cave if that’s your thing. (Cabin interior pictures will be released contingent upon interest)

This is essentially meant to be a light rpg-esqe blog for people who wan to create or place an interesting character in the chthonic camp to interact with Nico , Alabaster, and others. Some details

1. Alabaster is half Indian in this (Desi Al)

2. Al and Nico founded the camp. (Backstory will be provided if there is interest)

3. Nico and Al like eachother and they are going to be the absolute last ones to figure it out so they will banter, bicker, and flirt and if you ask them about their relationship they’ll say they’re just friends, co-workers even. This is because they are trying to convince themselves more than than they are trying to convince you.

I might make into a discord server depending on interest. Please feel free to ask for any clarification or any questions!

We are missing the delicious Nicobaster angst that is the gods being displeased with the fact that Nico is making friends with Alabaster - an exiled, who’s supposed to be cut off from all kinds of support from the Camps.

They see Nico helping a traitor is an act of betrayal, too. It must be - why else would he help a former lieutenant of the Titan Army? To build a new Camp, no less? It’s a seed of a threat.

So what do they do?

Eliminate it before it blooms, of course.

Also. If I may suggest: All of these creatures are extremely friendly with the underworld children but would bite everyone else’s head off if they so much as set one unallowed foot in the camp. You would not want a spider on your face.

And flowers. Persephone would be very displeased if there’s nothing to honor the Queen. I vote asphodels. Asphodels are actually the underworld’s flower btw like. i think i read somewhere about the shining flowers that lead you to afterlife or st like that.

And do you know that there’re mushrooms that glow in the dark? Bc they do. It’s called ‘bioluminescent’ or some sort. Absolutely stunning.

Imagine the Chthonic Camp has this. entire hallway decorated with glowing mushrooms and tall, beautiful asphodels. Yes some are toxic. But who cares. Imma jump into it so fast yall would have whiplash.

So at the Cthonic Camp place can we agree that there are plants and animals everywhere?

Not like, daisies or tulips or anything like that, but all kinds of mushrooms and lichen growing over the walls. Pitcher plants and Venus fly traps growing through cracks in the sidewalk. Sundew plants growing in windowsills

Spiders and beetles and scavenger butterflies and flies and dragonflies and moths! Foxes and vultures and ravens and raccoons roaming all over the place. Massive black rams grazing in the fields. Owls and bats making their homes on cabin roofs. Jackals and hyenas cuddling with the demigods

Worms and snakes everywhere! And maggots crawling around certain areas (that are quickly avoided by most campers)

I just really like the idea of the ‘death camp’ being full of life that intermingles with death

So in the Chthonic!Apollo and Chthonic!Athena aus, how is all this conflict affecting the camps? Are they aware that it’s happening at all? When the gods go to war, the demigods tend to get dragged in, whether they want to or not but Camp Half-Blood at the very least has changed a lot from the first pjo book. Before that, campers would have taken sides and gone against each other depending on what side their parents took but after the Second Titan War, camp has felt a lot more united. Like, they’re no longer fighting for the gods as much as they’re fighting for each other so I think they’d be way less likely to take sides against each other, even (or especially) if a war does break out. Is camp still like that or has a decade of peace made them forget how important watching each other’s backs is?

And considering how little Camp Jupiter actually interacts with the gods, do they hear about the conflict or do they stay oblivious? I find it hard to believe the Legion would splinter over this since they are far more focused on the greater well-being of New Rome than following their respective godly parents. The Romans have always felt like a much more independent entity from the gods to me, existing in the same world and aligned with them but acting of their own accord and interests.

Like, the Romans can do anything they want to their place where the Greeks can’t even enter a cabin that isn’t their own without feeling like they might offend a god. They definitely have far more eyes on them and I wonder if that’s going to influence how the events on Olympus are affecting both camps.

So I'll go for Chthonic Athena first here and then Chthonic Apollo

So for the Athena AU, nothing is effecting the camps yet, and might not at all. Athena has no living children when she dies, and the Council are keeping her death Locked Down until they can decide what to do with Zeus. Chiron and Dionysus know, as far as either of the Camps go, but that's it.

And the reason Hades is declaring war at all is because of Zeus traumatizing and killing Athena with powers he had no domain over and shouldn't have had access to. That is not the kind of man that should be king. So as soon as he finds out Zeus has been dethroned already and that Hestia's going to be replacing him, he's totally willing to drop it completely. That's what he wants the war to result in, Zeus being dethroned and punished properly for what he's done.

But he doesn't know any of that yet. He's too busy caring for and healing Athena and running the Underworld to go to any meetings that are called. And he can't send anyone in his place because of the preparations for said war.

It's almost like someone that realizes all of this will have to go to the Underworld himself and tell him about it! Hint hint

Apollo AU under the cut

Now for the Apollo AU, it's very different. Not only is Zeus still on the throne, but Apollo actually flashed himself and Athena down to Camp Half-Blood when they ran because of his time as a mortal. He raided Dionysus's supplies because Dionysus wasn't at the meeting and didn't know he and Athena were running yet. Dionysus and Chiron actually found him there and he threatened them until they swore on the Styx that they wouldn't tell anyone he and Athena had been there until he specifically told them otherwise.

So Chiron and Dionysus both know they're running immediately. None of the campers saw them, because it was the off season, but Chiron and Dionysus now know something is terribly wrong with Athena. Then they realize just how dire it is when the Fates send Apollo a vision and he looks terrified before bolting out of there like Tartarus himself is after them.

Hermes flashes in exactly 3 minutes later, asking if they'd seen either of them.

So the thing with Hades declaring war in the Apollo AU is that he's not declaring war on the camps, or earth, or mortals, or even really Olympus. He's declaring war on Zeus. Specifically, declaring war on Zeus's kingship.

If Zeus and the rest of the council decide to get the camps or even the Hunter's involved, that's on Olympus, not him. Hells, he'll even do his best to avoid half-blood casualties because he knows that both his kids and Apollo and Athena care about the campers.

So Hades is going to do his best to avoid getting any of the half-bloods involved in the war, but if the camps decide to willingly fight him on it, he and his forces will fight back.

*Please note the willingly there! Because death is fair where life is not. He will give them chances to surrender, he will give them warnings to go home, he'll set protection for the camp itself so the other gods can't punish them if they decide not to fight if they ask him to.

But if they decide to get in the way anyway?

They will be killed for it.

ok so bianca lives au!

the stress of being inside talos causes bianca to accidentally shadow travel (which explains the lack of a body)

talos is defeated, just to clarify

the quest continues on, zoe dies, and percy gets back to camp and tells nico bianca is dead

nico in this version denies it because he can feel that she isn't, but the rest of that interaction follows canon

so meanwhile bianca is in the underworld and when she figures out how to control her shadow travel she gets back to camp the day after nico leaves

unfortunately she can't do much to help find him, but she does search while also rejoining the hunters

eventually she realizes he's in the underworld, but minos leads him away before she can get there

after that it's a game of cat and mouse

nico has been convinced that he's wrong and she's dead because that serves minos' goals better

so she tries to find them, minos keeps moving away, this goes throughout the labyrinth

at the same time annabeth, percy, grover, and tyson are on their quest and have been told to keep an eye out

they see nico at the ranch and try to tell him, but he refuses to listen

after percy kills geryon, annabeth manages to send an iris message

bianca shows up, there's the reunion/explanation, nico hates percy less, and since now he has a whole reason to not trust minos, he sends minos away.

nico doesn't want to go back to camp atm, so he stays at the ranch and bianca sticks around too

then the quest continues, calypso's island happens, annabeth and percy go back in with rachel's help, etc.

bianca shows up and helps them in daedalus' workshop (nico didn't have enough control to properly return minos to the underworld so he ended up sticking with some chthonic kids from the ta)

they escape, go to camp, where nico and that immortal ares kid who's name i don't remember join them, as do the hunters

so castor doesn't die

lee still does because reasons

tlo goes more or less the same except more powerful demigods = less deaths

also hades favors bianca so she stays in the underworld freeing up nico to assist the others

plus bianca and hades, demeter, and persephone show up earlier

alabaster will probably work his way into this b/c i love him

and he is a chthonic kid so maybe...

so there you have it! bianca di angelo lives. she's also scary.

Thanks to ariars-art, I am now conjuring up my own Camp Half-Blood/Camp Jupiter AUs. The first of which is the fourth entry in the Fire Emblem series, Genealogy Of The Holy War. Still trying to figure out everyone’s divine ties there, though.

this took me a while to answer because it has been a hot minute since I've delved into Fire Emblem Lore, and my brain can only remember bits of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, FE: Fates, and mostly drawing information from FE: Three Houses. This also brought me in a hot minute where there were discussions in Fe:3H where people were discussing, what closest god the Crest bearers would be related to.

Like Dimitri's Crest of Blaiddyd which is also called the Grim Dragon Sign so people often attribute him being a descendant of a chthonic god (i.e. Descendant of Hades) All I can say is that without going so deep in the deep end, is that you can base everyone divine ties to what the closest tie of the 12 Dragon Gods that chose 12 Crusaders, or base it off their titles. Cause like the Dragons are basically gods so anyone related to them, doing the blodo pact or inheriting their bloodline, would be sort of their demigods and scions. Like there are 12 Major gods as an example, 12 Dragons. It'll be hard but it can be done. Out of the 12 Crusaders, Baldr is related to the God of Light so a light god related (well that's only Apollo in Greek and Roman). If not look into their powers and specialties.

Indeed, the original idea stems from a post of @/gutsybitsies, and after that @haiseiscute333 - at least, the version wherein Nico and Alabaster being amongst the leaders, as there’s another fanfic about Camp Underworld that runs the same line and is pretty much older than my blog. Happy built something similar but it’s not quite a whole new camp? So we’ll leave it for another day lolol I digress. Before guts all I bad is some here and there thoughts which I failed to articulate so that doesn’t count lolol. I merely build if up from the foundation of what these two proposed before gradually growing out of it to make my own for a Nicobaster fanfic.

Purely just to solidify my “Nico is a bad, bad leader” agenda. Anywayyyyy Mother Nico sounds so cute awww totally not bc i see Nico is the mother of the Cocoa Puffs rather than a dad in TSATS Darkness really births everything as it is.

I see that both Alabaster and Nico are seen as parental figures in this, and provided that Nico is the mother, would I be right to assume Alabaster is the father? 🤣🤣🤣

Bc I have this whole thing about them acting like an old married couple and I’m not letting it go.

Also curious as where does Claymore fit in all of this. 👀 In my AU he acts like a counselor/ similar to Chiron that keep Alabaster in check, but I’d love to head yours. :3

Good Questions:

is it possible to send multiple Ocs as Campers at the same time?

Yes. however, if you want your OC to get the attention they deserve, I would do one at a time. If they’re siblings or come to camp together I can make an exception but prefer no more than 2 at a time.

and in what chronology does your camp take place?

The same as most of my chronologies do post BoO but with the original prophecy at making Percy 18 instead of 16 ad with Nico entering the Lotus Casino at around 14. Meaning they are all older. But the events of the first two series occur as they did in canon.

A chthonic camp with Alabaster as the leader is funny tho like. Should the day comes that the camp is revealed and people are growing concerned - i mean, "an underworld camp?? and the exiled?? old enemies???" - whereas Nico's just, "Ah, I know them"

and then it turns out that the leader is his boyfriend.

Landslides were a constant danger in the Tail Mountains, as were avalanches when the snows grew deeper. More than a handful of the Kalak were injured or killed in such events every year, and that was with the precautions the clan took to avoid them.

This one, though, had occurred far from where the clan was currently camped. It was merely an inconvenience as it meant a detour to the clan's migration path. This pass, now blocked, had been their most direct route down onto the steppe. Finding a new route would take time, and the clan would not be able to arrive in time for the Naadam.

Ilirra, when she learned of this, was not having it.

So, here she was, returned to her home after so long away, heavy furs draped over a nearby rock as the work provided its own sort of heat. Sweat glistened on her bare arms as she heaved rocks bigger than her torso aside, a path through the rubble slowly but surely appearing. But it was a lot for one person alone.

After a particularly stubborn rock, Illira slumped against the side of the pass, taking a drink from her waterskin. She had been pushing herself all morning after an aetherial jaunt from the other side of the Three Great Continents, and it was starting to show as she slowed. Her bondmate would probably tell her to take a break, and she smiled at the thought, but she had a deadline. At least, that's what she told herself.

And so she pushed off the wall, wiping sweat from hers eyes, as she got back to work.

The smaller rocks were tedious but manageable. Because of this, she cleared much of the detritus by hand alone. But as the day wore on, she was left with larger and larger problems she could no longer ignore. She had hoped the large rocks would be easy enough to weave around, but several weaved across the pass with no room to maneuver. Ilirra stood, studying the boulders with hands on hips, unsure of the best plan of attack.

Tools would have been ideal, but she had jumped to action without preparation, so had only come with the clothes on her back and weapon on her hip. Fingers drummed against the hilt of her aetherblade, the other hand reaching out to knock on the stone in front of her. Had it been something more porous perhaps she could have simply smashed it, but it was solid, dense, heavy.

"Nothing for it, I suppose," Illira exhaled, taking her focus on hand as it ignited into a shimmering blade of aetherial energy.

The blade hummed through the air as Illira made several swift cuts, the blade leaving behind deep furrows in the stone. That accomplished, Illira stowed her weapon, placing clawed and calloused hands inside the openings, scratching their insides to widen them. Finally, she wedged her toes into two lower cracks, hands in higher ones, and strained against the bonds that kept the boulder together with her full body.

It started with creaking, crackling, rising into a crescendo of rumbling, chthonic thunder as the stone gave away, breaking into several smaller pieces.

Ilirra flopped to the ground panting, pointed bits of gravel digging into the bare skin of her back. The narrow slit of sky above, the brilliant blue of midday, stared down at her. It would be so easy to simply give in and enjoy the warmth of the sunbaked stones and the breeze.

The Au Ra sat up, eyes scanning the remains of the landslide. No time to rest, there was work to do.

PHANTOM AU - (Phantom Haven)

Nico's near-death experience endows him with powers and now he has to be a Savior which means he has to fight phantoms to keep people safe which would be a doable job, BUT that's not the only task of a Savior. He also has to uphold the integrity of the Savior System (ugh),Do good deeds and report them to his supervisor (double ugh), train his Lumen (dead eyed little thing doesn't like to listen to him so...ugh again!) and last but definitely not least he has to dedicate his life to figuring out how to use his endowment to cure a great societal problem... to perform... a MIRACLE TM. (yikes on bikes, no pressure). Will he be able to live up to the expectations of greatness that has been thrust upon him? or will he fail?

Modern Human AU in which an aimless Nico's life is changed for the better when someone abandons their little baby girl (Hazel) on the steps of the refurbished fire house he now lives in. Years later he finds a little kid named Frank and adopts him as well. Now he just needs to navigate life as a single parent which he is mostly fine with until Bianca tries to set him up with her fiance's best friend (Alabaster). Will this romance stay the casual fling it started as or could it blossom into something more? (Rated M)

CHURCH AU - (no original title yet)

An AU where Nico sells his soul to save his family from dying, when he meets his untimely death however he finds that Hell is not what he expected, its a quarry, and is he does his quotas, he can ascend the ranks, and even make it to heaven. Each Level comes with its own set of rules. The level right before heaven, which requires Demons to go to earth to collect evil humors that taint people's souls, has the MOST rules. With him being unable to see his family, not knowing what he's doing, and finding out that his childhood friend has grown into a handsome...Preist in training?!? Nico finds that he can't keep the all of the rules straight, especially because he's not. (Rated M)

Someone tagged my jason flower painting with Hanahaki vibes and it inspired this au

In this au Jason realized his feelings for Nico after the cupid encounter which led to him denying his feelings and clinging to piper, but piper knows he’s hiding something and it hurts that he doesn’t trust her. Their break up is messy and aphrodite is vengeful when her favorite daughter gets hurt. So aphrodite cursed him with hanahaki disease.

Jason pines for Nico, but by the time he gets his shit together it’s too late. Nico is dating Will, Jason missed his chance, and he’s doing his best to avoid his feeling and ignore the chthonic flowers choking him from the inside strangling his heart. He tries moving away and throwing himself into his work for the gods and praying every night for these feeling to go away, but the minor gods can't do anything for someone cursed by an olympian

Nico becomes more worried about Jason. He notices his skin getting paler, the way he keeps clearing his throat and muffling his coughs when he thinks no one is looking, and his too wide smiles as Nico visits the infirmary. 

Whenever Nico tries to talk to him about it Jason just brushes it off like it was nothing and keeps directing the conversation somewhere else, “There’s nothing wrong, I just got something caught in my thought. So how are you liking camp so far? Are you making friends” “Nevermind that, it’s just a cold. How was you’re day? What do you think of these temple designs?” “Don’t worry about the cough, it’ll go away eventually... Are you happy here?” “You and Will are getting pretty close huh?” “No I don’t need to go to the infirmary. You don’t need to use me as an excuse to see him haha” Jason’s smile wavers as he says that. 

Then Jason suddenly leaves camp, then he stops calling Nico back, then he starts blocking his calls. If this was anyone else, Nico would think that he’s being abandoned and rejected all over again... but this is Jason and Jason would never. Jason was there for him in Croatia and saw a side of him no one else know about. Jason was the first person to wholly accept him and welcome him at camp. And no matter how much Jason tried to hide it, he was sick when he left and Nico couldn’t just do nothing as one of his best friends suffered. There are a lot of little things about his relationship with Will that bothered him, that  kept building up when they started dating (it made him miss Jason all the more), and trying to stop him from seeing Jason again was the last straw. Nico shadow-travels straight to Pasadena, but by the time he gets his shit together...

When Jason is dead or dying, Nico finds Jason's sketchbook of pressed flowers and drawings of him. Nico covers his mouth and chokes back tears
