I had stickers attached to my temples; rubber bands that met behind my head and then on top of that the wig, fake nails and eyelashes and the corset – individually they add up to something monumental. It was hard to move. There were certain things one could do with one’s hands but that was about it. Fortunately, I wanted to keep Morticia very iconic and still. She’s not fractious at all. When he was done playing, mad, noble gentleman façade gone, true colors shown, here to to claim and to take and to break her spirit and leave literal ashes on his wake (and because he's still a glutton for psychological warfare, he makes Jonathan sleep through it and to even feel it happen, to leave him wake up to his worst nightmare.) Like a crescendo after an eerie build up.

Absolutely. Eggers' Orlok isn't Dracula in every sense, but one severed facet of his character left to fester and flex itself in full without any pretense of charm or cordiality. This Count is the raw brutality and sadism of that figure given the steering wheel at all times. I deeply appreciate the film giving that monstrosity a chance to shine in all its horrible glory
