“I’ve never really liked looking normal, and I’ve always liked a faintly bleached-out look, so I was really happy about the way the cameraman lit me as Morticia. The makeup was very intense. I had stickers attached to my temples; rubber bands that met behind my head and then on top of that the wig, fake nails and eyelashes and the corset – individually they add up to something monumental. It was hard to move. There were certain things one could do with one’s hands but that was about it. Fortunately, I wanted to keep Morticia very iconic and still. She’s not fractious at all. She’s very settled in her body language. I had a bonfire of the vanities at the end of the movie where I took all the fake stuff, made a pile and set it on fire.”

The process she describes with rubber bands stretching her face taut was a commonplace old showbiz trick employed by the likes of Marlene Dietrich, Lucille Ball, Barbara Stanwyck and Eva Gabor in Green Acres. Apparently, it was painful and gave Huston headaches – but the results were worth it!

They have both amazing and terrible luck, always finding themselves in situations they don’t want to deal with, yet still escaping in one piece. Choosing to enjoy his time alone. 🐯 Kaden Tigerlily🐯 (He/him) - “Solitary Fiend / Forest’s Warden” - A freshman from Savannaclaw, a joyful beastman who always has a bounce to his step. He looks up to his house warden, calling him brother (Since they’re both cats–) For the longest time he was rumored to be the missing child of a Royal Couple, (until it was proven true). They act as a mediator between the dysfunctional duo. They have a slight sass to them, and can come off as intense— yet despite that they’re a gentle soul who have a simple dream in life. To live it to the fullest. - Twisted/Inspirations: None tbh I saw a cool fish and wanted a pretty mermaid. Ever since then they’ve stayed on the surface with their guardians. A talented inventor with a sharp tongue. On this day (9 October 1957) in old showbiz history: House of Horror premiered on Portland, Oregon TV station KPTV. Like Vampira (Maila Nurmi) before her and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (Cassandra Peterson) afterwards, cadaverous cutie Tarantula Ghoul (real name: Suzanne Waldron, 1931 – 1982, affectionately known by fans as “Taranch”) provided campy comedic introductions to horror movies as the morbid Morticia Addams-like hostess of the weekly TV show from 1957 to 1959. Sadly, not a single frame of House of Horror survives (as was routine at the time, KPTV wiped and re-used the tapes of her shows), but backed by rock’n’roll band The Gravediggers, in 1958 Ghoul cut one immortal Halloween novelty single in her brief heyday: "Graveyard Rock" / "King Kong". Both songs are seasonal staples – crank ‘em up LOUD today! Her 1950s TV show may be long forgotten, but "Graveyard Rock" lives on every Halloween. Pictured: 1955 portrait of Waldon when she was appearing in the play "Oh, Men! Oh, Men!" As you can see, even out of Tarantula Ghoul drag she possessed a nicely macabre quality.
