Just kind of rant-ish, but I feel like Cabby is REALLY misunderstood. She's one of the few characters in the show id thought people would really connect with/relate to, but most of what I see is slander or hate. I could see why people argue that she is a 'stalker' or 'creepy' but those are the same people who also really like fan. Fan and Cabby have some things in common that most people forget??? They both are deemed, 'smart', both know a lot about the contestants/the show, and were at one point hated by others because of it. Cabby was also in the right by trying to get Fan eliminated (he literally invaded her privacy and some people just ignore that????). Now, her teammates had some reason to vote for her. Expecting people to act just how they're written in file? Thinking you're friends with someone (test tube) when really they either don't like you or see you mutually? *cough* AUTISM *cough cough*.

(This next bit is kinda vent-ish so if you feel uncomfy reading that kind of stuff, you should prob click off now!!!)

Cabby has a problem that I and others face, that being unable to truly understand the closeness of friends. This is really brought up in her relationship with test tube, her looking up to her and really wanting to be her friend/ally, and test tube only seeing her as an enemy, or rarely, just a teammate. In episode ten when Cabby rejoins, She is very surprised at the others on the island cheering for her after winning. She obviously didn't realize they viewed her this way.

It's hard learning that your idol, your 'best friend', your role model only sees you as a friend, an acquaintance, a nobody, or even an enemy. It leaves this void, a hole, and you feel betrayed, stabbed in the back, and you're just mad at yourself that you didn't realize it. Usually, you feel this way until you find 'them' and your whole world revolves around them, and the cycle repeats. The best feeling in it is the little attention, the conversations even with said person.

Not trying to put the blame on anyone, so I'm not gonna say who, but recently I had a conversation with one of my idols, and I really see them as a friend!! I wanna support them as a friend!!! I wanna make gifts, show my admiration, and joke with them!!! but whenever I realize that they have other friends, or that they barely know me, I feel crushed!!! I feel that void, the hole in my chest from before. It aches, realizing that I have/had no chance of being friends with such a cool person!!

(it also felt really hard to write this because i was CONSTANTLY rephrasing everything, hoping it never sounded too complicated or obvious. There's also just lines here im just plainly confused with, but whats the point of caring about that now if no one's gonna see this [probably] )

I’ve been thinking about Taco’s little pocket dimension inside her shell lately, and I thought wouldn’t it be cool if there was literally like a mini world in there?

Kind of like Lion’s mane from Steven universe (if you haven’t seen it- you can literally go inside it and it leads to a pocket dimension where people can store stuff inside it. I don’t think I’m describing it well enough so maybe look up a clip if you need to?)

I’d imagine instead of a grassland the ground would be covered in bushes and shrubs that looks like Taco’s lettuce, and she’d also have a little island with a tree like Lion! Maybe it could even be a lemon tree? That’s how she could have her inexplicable grand supply of lemons

Knowing Taco is such a hoarder, her island would be absolutely covered with random gadgets and items she’s collected over the years! Teacups, makeshift weapons, random weirdly shaped stones that reminds her of people (Pickle), it would be a complete mess in there too. Stuff scattered around the mini island in disarray, hanging out of the tree branches, etc. though somehow she still knows where everything is exactly. Having a pocket dimension literally be a part of you comes in handy!

I think it would be silly if she didn’t know it was inside her either. She just thinks there’s like. I don’t know. A void that she can store her stuff in. But maybe something can occur that brings her attention to it.

maybe one of the thinner objects (paper, nickel, etc.) like slip and trip inside her shell or something. I don’t know I haven’t thought that far..

anyways the point is that when they find their way out they’re like Taco I didn’t know there was a whole island inside of you! and she’s just like what. What do you mean.

A mini-world in her shell would be very cool!! For all I like to think about her pocket dimension (I have a whole paragraph prepared for the next time I post a Taco Headcanons Tuesday), I haven't put a ton of thought into it's appearance. I usually imagine it as a light pinkish-purple void, for whatever reason, but I do like the idea of an actual little world in Taco's head- maybe even one she goes to when she's asleep?

A lemon tree would be a cute fixture in there, too! Maybe it grows in there because of all the lemons she put in back in early season 1? A seed or two ended up left in there, and a whole tree ended up growing overtime? Like, when she was made, it was more of an empty, dreamy field, but as time goes on it gets filled up with not only her things but bits and pieces of her consciousness, yeah?

YES MY QUEEN WHO IS A MASSIVE HOARDER BUT NO ONE KNOWS BECAUSE SHE HAS A POCKET DIMENSION!!!!! <3 <3 I like to think it's sorted in her organized-mess sort of way. No one else could begin to navigate it but she goes there whenever she dreams and it's literally linked to her subconsciousness... let's just say she keeps Pickle's old eyepatch somewhere very hard for anyone else to find. She always knows exactly where it is.

I agree, she'd think of it as just some void. Normally she'd be more inquisitive, but not only does the contestants' code seem to actively stop them from thinking too deeply on things like that (ex. Cabby trying to think of her parents), but I also think she wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. Food doesn't go bad if she keeps it inside her shell, and with being homeless for so long, I don't think she'd take the risk of investigating. Even if she's there when she dreams, she'd think of them as just that- dreams.

As for someone accidentally going inside her shell, yes please!! Paper doing it could be really interesting, with him having been in the s1 final four as well as being actively scared of Taco in the s2 finale. There are an unfortunately small amount of contestants who could fit in her shell, but I'd imagine getting out would be very difficult, seeing as there's only one exit/entrance. Taco would have to just grab them herself and pull them out, I suppose.

Local Taco positively baffled to learn that the place she dreams about every single time she sleeps (let's be real that would NOT be every night) is actual fucking place inside her head. But yeah, she'd be surprised but would immediately recognize the place they were talking about upon it being described. She might be upset, honestly, since I'd imagine that place is very personal and private for her.

I love connecting the parallels between these two a lot <3 so here's a few of them!

I’m very biased BUT I would love to see detail on what you see as similarities between Fan and Clover & how you see their dynamic, if that’s something you want to talk about.

AHHH I LOVE CLOVER AND FAN!!!

I usually think about their dynamic but I've never really focused on their similarities because they aren't that similar but there are apparently some things!!! <- figured things out as I wrote this

A clear similarity I can see is that both of them are optimistic and let themselves be vulnerably happy, but they go about it differently. They both also jump to assumptions easily (Kind of wrapped up in their own perceptions) and can be unaware of their impact socially (Both of them being more socially oblivious in early season) where their intentions are good but they lack a sense of consequence. Clover's known for this naivety, but Fan's is more out of a lack of empathy for others and understanding of his own place in the world, demonstrated with Paintbrush really well where he's unaware of how insensitive he's really being.

I imagine their dynamic is a bit similar to Lightbulb and Fan in the aspect of someone on the more silly and unserious side interacting with him (and also similar miscommunication issues), however, Clover is more energetic and sympathetic. Fan wouldn't appreciate her lack of attention, but he does enjoy her simplicity and more predictable nature (compared to Lightbulb who is incredibly so which Fan struggles to deal with). He also would like her cheerfulness because he can easily understand it, and he'd most likely replicate it. I could imagine him misinterpreting some of her words or reactions because of how easily he assumes things of others, though. As with any other Pinker (Cabby, Test Tube) I think he would also find her luck interesting, his desire to learn about it would either be because it's something he can very easily predict if he understands it (predicting!!! he loves that!! yay!!!) but also because. you know. Fan loves to study the contestants! Fan in general would have a weird mixed view of her, but he'd mostly find her sweet in a similar way he does with Goo.

I've always imagined Clover to find Fan really endearing. I don't think she would take him too seriously (in a way he'd dislike), and she'd also have a hard time keeping up with him. But she would definitely adore his easy excitement and passion for the show and encourage him to talk about it :) Clover would most likely miss cues that Fan frequently gives when interacting with others, and would probably obliviously make him frustrated with certain comments lol. But she most of all would love to excite Fan because he's so easily excitable and that is very sweet

(I haven't really looked much into Clover so Sorry if there are aspects I'm missing or presenting wrong </3 I Do really like her though and she's awesome)

I'm making this post WAYYYY later than I thought I would but I am still NOT OVER part one of the ii finale, and I just wanted to gush about why I think it worked so well (long post + spoilers ahead, everything here is just my own personal opinion!)

And to start talking about the episode, I'm not going to talk about the episode at all, but rather THE BUILDUP

as has been said many times by Justin and Brian, Mephone4 creating the contestants has been something they've planned for awhile (since 2015 if my memory is correct), so they have had plenty of times to sprinkle in little details building to this reveal. But what I find fascinating is how well they hid the clues to the reveal because they all were hidden in plain sight

Fan glitching and saying he doesn't know who he is outside the show

Cabby struggling to remember her parents

Anytime a character is asked (in FFF or an exit interview) about their past they reply with "for as long as I can remember"

Characters describing how the show can feel like it's taking over their lives

Looking back over everything I almost feel stupid for not catching onto it before, but the clues were made by design to go over viewer's heads. Because in almost every case, there was a second, "more reasonable" conclusion the audience could take away from these moments.

For Fan his whole arc had been about his unhealthy attachment with the game, it made sense that he would struggle with his identity outside of it (we just didn't know how LITTERAL that struggle was). And him glitching was in response to being beamed up by the Prime Shimmer, at the time it was safe to assume it was probably something to do with the alien tech and not Fan himself. For Cabby's scene, god I love this scene, everyone (including the characters themselves!) assumed that it was just Cabby's memory that was at fault because that's what her arc was centered around. Every clue was so well hidden because they used our own assumptions against us

And now I want to talk about season 3 a little more because in my opinion, the twist would NOT have hit as hard without it

I know there were a lot of real world reasons why the crew made a season 3, but it serves as the perfect primer for the season 2 twist. First and foremost the Cabby scene again; since the objects' world is so different from our own and there is no universal "lore" on how such a world operates, Cabby's scene with Bot is soooo important for one specific reason; it plants the idea in the viewer's heads that, in this world, objects are supposed to have parents. Cob's specifically has a line taunting Knife and Suitcase about this (What did your parents say when they heard the good news?) that would not have hit as hard without this scene subtly directing the audience to expect them to have parents

Then there is Walkie's whole monologue at the end of iii's finale;

I'm gonna be real, when this finale came out I really did not understand this monologue at all. I didn't understand WALKIE at all. She suggests she wasn't made by Meeple, which didn't feel like a lie, but I just couldn't figure out what her deal was.....then the season was just over!

I was confused and a little irritated when they didn't elaborate on who exactly she was and where the hell she came from, and I think the crew wanted the audience to feel that way. They wanted us to keep the questions of "who" and "why" in our heads so that season 2's reveal would make it all click into place

iii's confusion doesn't stop there either, since after it ended probably the biggest question everyone had was how does it fit in the timeline? Because the crew always said it was canon, and the characters kept making references to how season two was "still going on", so when episode 15 aired I was really curious on how it would all fit.....

....what?

That was my reaction at least. There was no way season three happened in only half a day....right? And then I thought, "oh, ok, silly object show rules. They didn't want season 3 to intrude on season 2 so they're going to brush this off, just don't think to hard about it". Obviously, this wasn't the case, but we wouldn't know that until the finale. And again, I think the crew wanted this confusion. By leaving the audience with questions, you're helping to build tension towards that finale payoff (and to be clear, at the time of writing this we still don't know 100% HOW this timeline works, but no doubt Mephone's powers had something to do with it)

With all of these questions, and Brain running polls on twitter on how many characters we thought might die (thanks brian), finally it was time for part one of the season 2 finale...

and then the twist dropped like a bombshell; mephone made the contestants

the very foundation of my understanding of the show changed after that. Everything I had been prepared for was thrown entirely out the window, which I don't think was an accident. With how the crew teased about this episode, it felt like they were preparing us for everything except the twist, ensuring it could fully blindside the most amount of people possible

I want to talk about how brilliantly they presented the twist as well because honestly, building up to it is half the battle. With how important this moment is and how much of our understanding of the show it changes, it needed a ton tension and weight behind it, which the crew pulled off flawlessly. I still get goose-bumps watching that final scene

Kicking it off, Mephone finally answers the call from Cobs. As someone who is particularly invested in Mephone this was huge, it's the biggest thing we know he's been dreading and shows some significant growth from him as well (I don't think pre-iii finale Mephone would ever face his fears like this). Then Knife and Suitcase confront Cobs, Suitcase setting the mood by saying "It feels too easy, doesn't it?" and it does. We, as an audience, know that this is only part one. There is no way Cobs is about the be defeated....not to mention that he has some sort of grand plan we don't know about, so the audience is now on the edge of their seats wondering what is about to go wrong

As the pair confront him they have this exchange;

"Bored? You expect us to believe that??"

"I don't know, it is the truth though"

Since Cob's is known to be an unreliable narrator, to me this feels like Brian subtly signaling to the audience that whatever Cobs is going to say next IS going to be the truth, whether we like it or not

Cobs then nonchalantly confirms he's the one deleting the contestants, putting the audience on edge. I mean, who calmly admits to murder like that?? Then, he begins probing about the bizarre nature of the show. Alllll of the little things that might have bugged us, or things we brushed off because "its an object show" Cobs highlights. He builds the audience's tension by pointing out the same questions a lot of them have been asking themselves since the beginning. And then, he starts building the tension with the contestants;

(I really love this beat, how he takes a moment to think of just the right question to ask without giving it all away. It shows how much he's enjoying fucking with the contestants, really living up to being the final big-bad of the show)

The way he begins to lead us to the answer is so sick and twisted. Asking Knife and Suitcase seemingly innocent questions, going on about creative vision, answering Mephone's call and realizing with delight how even HE doesn't seem know the answer. Winding the audience up and up and up before;

"How'd you get an interview with him anyway?"

"What'd your parents say when you told them the news?"

"You'd think you'd remember something like that, oh wait, no you wouldn't."

"He made you."

...

To this day, Inanimate Insanity is the only show to leave me literally speechless after an episode. I think everything about part one was handled phenomenally, hats off to the entire crew

Finally, I wanted to talk about where this twist leaves the show. Let's be real, putting a "nothing was real" type twist into your story is risky. If not done properly it can leave the audience feeling like the story was pointless or is no longer engaging to revisit. I can confidently say ii's twist has avoided this pitfall

Not only has this twist been properly built up too, incredibly I think it makes the characters more interesting in hindsight. Many of them follow an arc about becoming more than who they are assumed to be at the start. With this twist, those arcs are suddenly much more meaningful because instead of overcoming a personal flaw, they are overcoming what they were literally created to be. It changes the status quo in a way that will alter your perception of earlier episodes, but in a way that makes you re-engaged with the show and excited to revisit it

All in all, I love this episode and I love the twist, and I'm really excited to see how it continues to shape the characters and world in part 2 :)

opinion on character: they are so awesome !! i really enjoyed their character and whole arc! they are very shaped. i wish they played an important role in the finale, i wanted to see how it impacted them when everything disappeared. realizing they were the only one that wasnt real then realizing they were the only one that WAS real. their growth was wholesome and im glad they have come a long way! silly

brotps: bowbot and botcase! i NEED bow and bot to interact PLEASE!!!! think of angst and then switch to casual friends!!!! bot and suitcase are a existential crisis duo, i like their (kinda) parallels with the "nothing is real" and "im not real" and then swapping around. i like the characters i make them miserable

[Basepad] I think they'd bond over buying each other size and limb appropriate presents. They're both armless and the biggest objects on Inanimate Island, and have to deal with a lot of annoying doorknobs, small doorways, etc. So, they get each other a lot of functional gifts. Scarves long enough to actually wrap around them, doorknob attachments that let them use their bloody feet, etc.

[Bombpad] Bomb tries to teach Mepad how to dance! The keyword here is 'tries.' I think Mepad could dance if he really wanted to, and put his mind to it, but he is simply not built for much quick movement. He is large, flat, and without arms to aid him in balance. The wiggly-swiggly dance that Bomb is known to do would simply not work well for him. Mepad is still happy to serve as Bomb's DJ, though.

[Tacopad] When Taco is sleeping, Mepad does not allow a single soul to get near her, much less wake her up. She sleeps so little between trauma, insomnia, nightmares, paranoia, etc. that whenever she does manage to settle down and catch a few z's, it's very precious! And Mepad Will Not be letting anyone wake her up before her own body wakes her. He will teleport people onto the roof and strand them until Taco's awoken on her own, if they're too persistent.

[Toipad] I think Mepad would really like hearing Toilet talk about his family. Given... well... *gestures towards Mepad entire family*, it would be nice for him to hear about what a more normal/function family unit is like! He is overjoyed when Toilet mentions that he wants Mepad to meet his family, once they get the chance.

[Floorpad] Floory is the only object properly equipped to take care of Mepad if he were to get sick. Mepad involuntarily teleports every time he sneezes, and with the help of a handy 'find-my-Meeple-device' app, Floory is the only one who can actually catch up with him and continue to give him care and love!!

Alright. Test Tube gave me nothing big, and cabby gave me the bare minimum, and fan was the catalyst, so I have one more shot. Lightbulb, based on your answers as of late, I think this might work. HOOO BOY OKAY nickel and balloon. it was a bumpy ride fellas. going immediately from s2 where nickel was kinda a POS to s3 where they suddenly became acquaintances was a little weird to me. (especially in that one episode where silver & candle interrogate nickel about baseball. no suitcase mention?? huh???) but it was cool to see their journey! the buddy-buddy thing seemed weird throughout earlier episodes because in s2 balloon and nickel kinda hated each other's guts so i'm glad that was covered in a later episode and that their friendship was actually solidified. BUT that doesn't leave nickel off the hook if he dont march his ass up to suitcase and say sorry the minute they go back to season 2 i'm gonna have a WORD with that boy

BOT!!! OH BABY BOT they are SO adorable and i loved the reveal that they were a robot! i was so mystified on how bow was magically alive at the beginning and seeing that it was just a product of tt and fan's grief was very heartbreaking... but seeing bot evolve into their own person was genuinely so so so beautiful and the representation for queer folks is done very gracefully and it's very wholesome. seriously im not even trans and i was tearing up like a little bitch y'all. fan and test tube are the parents ever it's so cute and they are the cutest fam ever

silver spoon and candle.... hrrrmmm you are certainly funny little guys.... i would like to put you in a jar and study you.... their sudden intense craving for winning was a little jarring but their dynamic is funny. i didn't like silver much at first but he def grew on me especially in the finals, and candle's friendship with yinyang was really cute too (still bawling he got out i really grew to love him.) AND dont think i didnt see ur blushing in ep 17 silver. im onto you

cabby... oh you are an interesting little gal. i saw her design before ever watching iii and i was like wow! what a critter! but i'll be so honest at first i didn't like her because her information obsessed demeanor seemed very cold and calculating to me (and i'm so biased for fan and tt so when she got them out i was like. Girl.) but now that i understand her whole character arc, how she learned that its not always about the "facts" and how to lean on people, it was really heartwarming and shes rly grown on me. im a cabby appreciator
