Since coming back to life, someway somehow, a little over a year ago, Wen Ruohan has lived with only three things in mind: Avoiding anything dangerous, avoiding putting himself in danger, and avoiding anyone and everyone he can.

He admits that, perhaps, this can be thought of as selfish; he, of all people, now lives a life that is safe and relatively peaceful? The dead he alone slaughtered surely turn in their graves, and the dead he indirectly slew are sure to, as well, over the irony, as even before he wasn’t at peace. Few Sect Leaders ever were, after all, and he’d made it a point to not let peace into many lives. There are nights where it keeps him awake, days where it has him sitting in front of a blade...but, so far, he has lived as quiet a life as could possibly be had. He is as grateful for it as he allows himself to be.

The only problem was that, right now, there was something—someone—who went against each of Ruohan’s current ways of living.

He’s not able to bring himself to continue adhering to those ways, however, upon seeing him on the ground and injured.

“Sect Leader Nie. Sect Leader Nie. Can you hear me?”

While he has avoided contact with other people as much as he can, he hasn’t always been able to do so; in fact, shortly after he had first found himself alive again, he had stumbled into a village purely on accident. He’d managed to make his way out before his identity was realized—while he knows he died in Wen robes, he’d awoken in simple black ones lacking any identifying insignia or detail—but in this village he’d made some very important discoveries: The current list of standing Sects, their Leaders, and the date and time. It’s why he already knows that, despite the fact that Nie Mingjue had been the standing Nie Sect Leader in his time, his younger brother Nie Huaisang has now taken that position. It is part of why Ruohan cannot adhere to the principles he has set for himself.

The other part, of course, is that because neither of them would ever forget the actions of his first life (among the deaths hed caused, Huaisang and Mingjue’s father had been one, with Mingjue himself nearly being another), Ruohan knows that Nie Huaisang likely doesn’t even want his help, but it’s because of this that he can’t help but give it in turn. He doesn’t want to leave him here, hurt (though he isn’t sure how yet) and on his own; it’s really the least he could do.

“Sect Leader Nie...”

And yet, no matter how many times he says his name, Ruohan has so far received no acknowledgement from the other; not unexpected at all, but wholly unhelpful. Huaisang is neither moving nor speaking even as he shakes his shoulder, which is something he does expect a reaction for. For Ruohan to so much as touch him is surely enraging to his core, and yet...

He sighs, and against his better judgement decides to drop the title for now. He will try anything, in this moment, really; “Nie Huaisang, I understand I am not the one you want help from, but I am the one who is here. Tell me what’s happened; I’ll have to carry you from here otherwise...”

Another thing to, hopefully, entice a reaction from him, though unfortunately it’s also something one could call a warning; Ruohan now has his fingers to Huaisang’s pulse, felt upon his wrist, and is searching him with his cultivation. He finds that, somehow, the Sect Leader has been paralyzed; which, of course, explains his lack of movement, but the paralysis seems limited to only that which is below his neck. Surely he should be able to speak, if this is the case?

Unless, of course, he’s—

“Sect Leader Nie, please don’t ignore me.” Ruohan would have sounded annoyed and exasperated, were he still the man from before, upon realizing this could be what’s going on, but now, he just sounds imploring. Perhaps even a bit desperate, though even that, surely, can spark a reaction? Even if it’s only one of surprise?

“I am only trying to help you.”

Elation.

It’s the only word that comes to mind, that comes close to describing, what he feels upon Huaisang’s little outburst—and really, it’s nothing but, isn’t it? Not while he’s here, not while he’s in Ruohan’s presence. With the way he flounders almost immediately, as well, it’s enough to make him laugh (the image of a child crosses his thoughts again, makes him laugh all the more).

“Come now, don’t tell me you lose your spirit so quick?” He asks, false confusion colouring his tone, as he leans forward on a knee. “A man’s ire should never leave him so quick, you know.”

Not that it wholly matters whether it does or not—the moment Ruohan finds the rebellion tasteless, finds it boring, it’ll be as if Huaisang was never in Nightless City to begin with.

(He might grant Mingjue the mercy of sending a body part back, if the entertainment prior is suitable.)

There was much he could do—much he wanted to do—but he hasn’t much of a clue on where he wants to start. To lose Huaisang too quickly would do nothing to sate him, but keeping him too long would be its own burden. And there’s still the matter of the insurgence with Chao’er, in which every other Sect was part...

“It is truly unfortunate that it was you, of all of the disciples, to have stayed behind.” In another life, this might mean something to either of them; for now, it’s just wordplay. “Your brother won’t break easy, and that fact is to your detriment.”

It’s a mercy in its own right to be telling Huaisang anything, but Ruohan does it mostly because he wants to see the young man react. Any will do, at this point. He’ll be here long enough that he can afford to take his time.

“I fear I get ahead of myself, however; your first stay in our Scorching Sun Palace is deserving of an introductory tour, isn’t it?”

Not that he has a choice; not that the tour will really happen.

“Come along, now, after me.”

His father? No one had ever said he looked like his father and he really didn't. Nie Shuangnao had been a bear of a man, even taller and bulkier than Mingjue. Huaisang, even once he is fully grown, would look like a little weasel next to him. Not that any of that matters. The fact that Wen Ruohan even dares to mention his father makes anger rise up inside him. "I wouldn't know. I don't remember much of how he looked anymore, considering you murdered him when I was eight." The words leaves his lips before he can fully think it through, probably due to a mix of anger and exhaustion, making him think much slower than usual.

Once his mind catches along, a flash of fear appears in his eyes. Huaisang is not his brother. He is not good with pain or threats, he is soft and cowardly. Like most people, he doesn't want to die, but he also doesn't want to roll over for Ruohan. To be honest, he's not sure what to do, besides trying to be brave and stay alive until his brother can barge into Nightless City and save him. Part of him, a part he currently hates, wants to kowtow and grovel, plead to the Wen Sect Leader to not kill him. Why does he feel so many contrasting things?

Unsure of how to proceed, Huaisang ends up lowering his gaze, bowing his head slightly, behaving somewhere between rebellious and subdued. He can't help but feel like this will all end badly.

I think the pairing was ZhuiLing or else it was focused on Lan Sizhui, Lan Jingyi, and Jin Ling in some combination. They were still cultivators, Lan Sizhui was a monster/tentacle monster/eldritch kind of creature when he wasn't in human form and the Lan clan helped keep this secret. Because once again I thought I had this fic bookmarked, but can't find it, and my Google-fu has failed too, so here goes: x number of years ago, Wei Ying and the Wen Remnants vanished from the Burial Mounds. Lan Zhan has never stopped searching for Wei Ying. There are strange rumors everywhere that WY & the others are in a resentment-filled no man's land (kind of like the void in the Shadow & Bone novel) where huge deadly monsters roam. Word is also that people who really need help have safely disappeared into this void. As time passes, rumors of strange cultivators suddenly appearing to aid people are also circulating. And I think Lan Zhan actually meets Xiao Xingchen in an inn at one point & it's clear he knows Wri Ying (he & Song Lan turn out to be Wei Ying's right-hand men). LZ does try to get into the void thing, but the energy is too strong & he barely makes it out of the area. After a number of years they get a message out of the blue, i think, from WY saying that the monsters are getting out, and WY ends up bringing the Wei Sect back to the cultivation world to help fight. Wei Ying will have nothing to say or do with Lan Zhan, at least to start, which Lan Zhan is devestated by. Um...and Lan Yuan is there, grown up & still the Best Boy ever. I think A-Yuan tirns out to be a Gusu Lan fanboy. Anyway, it turns out Wei Ying created a ghost path that allows the Wei Sect to safely use resentful energy. But you find out WY got too damaged back in the beginning and by the end they defeat the monsters but he's dying, so Lan Zhan gives Wei ying his golden core. I think LZ actually does the whole transfer himself in the Jingshi.

He wanted to kill all of them. Wangxian comes their to save Ayuan and they get saved in the process. They got some cursed so Ayuan request wangxian to let them stay in their house until their cursed is solved.they stay in their house and yanli tries to connect with wei wuxian but he doesn't. Wen Ning is also married. Also, wangxian are immortal. Wei ying form is crow which he uses to spy on his son for safety reasons. Also, lan xichen repents himself and tries to make amends and connect with the kids. Lan zhan is also trying to connect with his family. Also, that Jiang family is a bit#h (bitch), cheng verbally abuses wei wuxian at any chance he gets and yanli only knows to cry. Same with lan qiren,he is still the same. Nice mingjue is still alive but he also already got cursed. I don't know about lan zhan. I didn't read after because it was not completed.

I would swear I bookmarked this one but I can't find it anywhere!

It's a modern au where LWJ and WWX are college students. Iirc they are already in a relationship.

Iirc it opens with WWX and LWJ in a wrecked car which is possibly half hanging off a bridge - they'd been run off the road (though that's not established until later).

When the emergency services arrive, LWJ is taken to hospital but WWX is arrested for some bullshit reason - resisting arrest or something. Iirc the cops on the scene were Jin Zixun and Xue Yang.

There is worry from LWJ's family because they don't know what happened to WWX. Just that he was in the car and he should be in the hospital but isn't.

Later, WWX is in an interrogation room not making much sense because he's injured and hypothermic (it's winter and he was soaked through but he wasn't allowed to even dry off) then he gets left on his own.

I *think* he was tracked down by police (chief?) NMJ who got to WWX shortly before his heart stopped due to his injuries, the hypothermia, and the mistreatment while in custody.

That's all I can remember. Does this ring any bells for anyone? @greywake

He heads towards the ocean and meets XXC and SL, who travel in the same direction. He gives them a fake name and they eventually get to a seaside town where XXC and SL have a house that they offer WWX to stay in. I think in the last few chapters NHS found out he was there and WWX started to teach some town children (well, teenagers) so that the town has more protection and he doesn't have to use demonic cultivation.

16. I’m looking for this fic where Wwx is dead and while dead his (memories?) are shown to the cultivation world and when Wwx comes back everyone (or most people) consider him a good person. I believe in the description of this fic the Wwx that comes back this world is a different one from the one who dies in that universe. I also remember a scene in the fic where Wwx is overhearing people passing by talking about the compass he invented and he swore he named it something different, or he named something differently. Wei Wuxian is not strong, or at the very least his brute strength is not something he take prides in as much as his speed and flexibility, but those can only get you so far, and when going against stronger enemy, your mind is your trump card. Or, Wei Wuxian develop a time traveling array during the Sunshot Campaign in case everything went wrong but forgot about it after. 18. Hello, wonderful people! Thank you for your hard work! Can you please help me find this fic? It's wangxian and either xiyao or 3zun. What I remember is at some point Jin Guangyao did something to contradict his father I think so in punishment he was thrown to some abandoned mine. Lan bros, Nie Mingjue and Wei Wuxian were searching for him and WWX said he will use the spirits of the dead for the search. Others disagreed but he said that JGY doesn't have much time since it was really cold in the mine for someone without a good golden core. At this point LWJ started to suspect WWX doesn't have one, I think. Does this ring any bells? Thank you in advance! @themorrana

19. Hello! For the next fic finder I have a fic i would love to get found.

It’s Wangxian.

And I think it was time travel but I’m not too sure. It might not have been, I’m 90 % sure it was in the cloudless days though.

Anyway the only thing I really remember is that wwx tells lwj that the older disciples used to make him drink with them when he was younger, like he started young around 12 I think?

He mentioned to lwj that it took around two bottles of wine to get him drunk and that usually he didn’t have to drink that much around his year mates as they got passed out drunk pretty quickly.

I also remember lwj or someone telling him that his golden core had burned away the alcohol the entire time. Which had put it under some kind of strain I think?

A/N: I planned this to be a one-shot but I got carried away, so the actual action *wink wink* will happen in the next chapter.

I did some completely unnecessary research for this (my adhd ass basically got distracted) but nothing specific. My cultural knowledge is from the show so I'm sorry for any possible mistakes regarding culture. This is my first time writing The Untamed. Also English is not my first language.

Part 2

You met Nie Huaisang at one of the cultivation meetings Jin Guangyao held in Carp Tower. You were a member of one of the smaller clans, so you didn't attend such gatherings in general. That one time your older brother insisted for you to come, as there were some issues to be discussed which might need your expertise as a healer.

During the many battles of the Sunshot Campaign, you actively participated in the healing of wounded soldiers, so many members from the bigger clans also knew you. So it was no wonder they were all pleasantly surprised to see you there at the meeting. After the greetings and toasts you were free to mingle, and almost everyone greeted you with a pleasant smile and grateful eyes. You also greeted them politely, asking about their family and health.

After a while you noticed that Zewu-jun were looking at you, wanting to invite you over to where he was standing with his brother Lan Wangji, Jin Guangyao and another finely dressed young man. As you walked over Lianfang-zun excused himself to greet the other guests. You turned to the remaining three men with a smile, and they bowed to you in return.

"(C/N)(Y/N). It's so nice to see you. What brings you here?" Lan Xichen asked with a small smile on his lips.

"Apparently, Lianfang-zun requires my help with something. And I took the chance to reunite with old acquaintances."

Lan Wangji stared at you in his usual way, not showing any of his emotions. You also wanted to ask what brought him here, but with a curt nod to you and his brother he also excused himself. Finally, you turned to the man now standing next to Lan Xichen. You had an attention to detail, so only a quick glance was enough for you to notice his handsome face and elegant clothing however, you didn't remember meeting him before.

"It's nice to meet you, Master...," you trailed off somewhat nervously as you didn't know how to address him.

He appeared lost in thought for a moment as he seemed to ever so slightly jump at your words. Still, he quickly schooled his expression into a calm and dignified look, but you could still see his nervousness underneath.

"I am Nie Huaisang. Pleased to meet you Lady (C/N)," he said as he bowed to you again, holding his fan in his hands.

As you realized your previous mistake, you were quick to return his bow.

"Ahh, please excuse my rudeness Clan Leader Nie."

He didn't seem offended at all as he glanced at you with a small smile, which appeared to be sad to you. You knew the story of his ascension to clan leader, after all his brother's death was still a widely discussed topic between cultivators. You also heard the various mean stories about Nie Huaisang himself, in which cultivators often referred to him as the Head Shaker or Good-For-Nothing. Stealing another glance at the man, he didn't seem quite as incompetent to you as these stories described him. He might not carry a sword and appear generally nervous, but you could also see the intelligence in his eyes. Right when you wanted to ask him about the situation in Qinghe, your brother called out to you to return to your tables. You exchanged bows with the two men again and returned to where your clan was sitting. However, you didn't seem to think about anything else that day but the handsome and mysterious Clan Leader Nie.

In the upcoming weeks you had the chance to meet with Nie Huaisang many more times, at political meetings and at night hunts too. You were not one to attend often, but as time went by you became more and more interested in the leader of the Nie Clan. As far as men go, he was the first one with whom you could always stir up meaningful conversations about various topics, not just politics or war. As someone who were always interested in music and arts, you found it exceptionally refreshing to listen to him talk about his passions, especially painting and his favourite fans. Looking at him, it always made you happy to see him quite relaxed during your conversations. After a while he even became bolder and started to show you his beautiful smile and laugh and you had to realize, that you, at the same time, started to fall in love with him.

Your brother always had a watchful eye on you two and he always let you know when he thought you spent enough time in the company of the clan leader. You understood his reasoning of course, so you always rejoined your family after a short conversation with Nie Huaisang.

After a few such meetings though, you started receiving gifts from him. At first you didn't know from whom they came from, but one time a messenger, who delivered some letters to your brother, handed you a neatly packaged hand-painted folding fan. It was the most beautiful thing you have ever seen, and you instantly knew who it was from. As you carefully traced the intricately painted lines on the fan with your fingertips your heart was beating so hard you felt it might jump out of your chest at any moment.

The next week your brother informed you that Clan Leader Nie requested a lunch with him and that you should also attend. Despite his reputation, everyone in your home made sure the preparation for the lunch were going smoothly. Everyone seemed excited to host such a high-ranking cultivator in your home. To say that you were nervous when the day finally arrived was an understatement. Actually, you thought you were never this nervous before.

During the lunch you were actually becoming calmer until your brother finally steered the conversation toward the actual meaning of the whole thing.

"Clan Leader Nie, may I ask the reason of your visit?" Your brother inquired after you exhausted all the general conversation topics.

Nie Huaisang seemed rather nervous too during the whole lunch, but looking at him now you were worried he might actually faint. Good thing you are a healer, you thought. For a few moments he sat there completely silent and almost motionless. Only his hands fiddling with his closed fan revealed his emotions. He looked up at your brother and opened his fan to hide behind it. The longer he spoke the quicker his hand moved the elegant accessory, and it seemed his face got redder by the minute.

"Clan Leader (C/N), as you probably noticed, we became quite well-acquainted with your sister. I would like to believe we became rather close even in the past few weeks. And you didn't seem opposed by my advances either. What I mean by all this is that...," he trailed off, even his ears were bright red by now. He appeared to be steeling himself for his next words. Finally he reluctantly lowered his fan and looked at you with frightened but hopeful eyes. God, you just wanted to hug him at that moment. But you couldn't, so you mustered your most encouraging smile and nodded at him. You were certain your cheeks were also red at that point. Nie Huaisang looked straight into your brother's eyes and said:

"I would like to ask for your permission to take your sister as my wife."

When he finally said it, it seemed like a huge stone was lifted off of his shoulders. His posture became more relaxed, but the fan opened again, only at his chest though, not covering his face. Now it was your turn to nervously glance at your brother. His face didn't show anger or disgust, only deep contemplation, which was a good sign, you thought.

"Clan Leader Nie, I am honored you think so highly of my sister. I have to say however, your bad reputation is not something I can ignore..."

"Gege!" You exclaimed, looking at your brother shocked and scared. Thinking back, you never thought your brother believed all those mean rumors about Nie Huaisang because he was just as good at reading people as you were.

"Meimei, let me finish," your brother said not even looking at you, a slight warning in his voice.

"Clan Leader Nie, as you said, I never opposed your relations with my sister. You seem to me an honorable man, and you never behaved inappropriately around her. But you have to understand, my sister's future depends on me. That's why I brought up your reputation. They say you are incompetent, but that's not what I see. I think you are very good at this whole political game. All I ask of you is to take care of my sister and don't let her reputation be ruined."

As he finished speaking you instantly turned to Nie Huaisang, who seemed to freeze, only his eyes turned impossibly big. His mind probably stuck to the same thought as yours, because that meant your brother actually agreed, right?

With his next sentence, he confirmed your suspicions: "I accept your proposal. If my sister agrees, she is yours."

You could only nod your head furiously as Nie Huaisang stood up and bowed deeply to your brother in thanks.

"Clan Leader (C/N), I assure you, your sister's happiness will always be my top priority. I will take care of her until my last day," Nie Huaisang said, his voice shaky.

As he straightened up, you could see his eyes glistening with unshed tears and you couldn't hold yourself back anymore. You basically jumped up, walked around the table and grabbed his shaking hands.

"I would love to be yours, Nie Huaisang," you said squeezing his hands.

He looked at you with that self-assured half smile you loved so much, and which he showed so rarely these days, but it always signaled some kind of mischief.

You didn't notice your brother looking at you two with a fond look on his face.

As if the gods were not already frowning upon him enough! Huaisang wants his father and brother?! How can he even begin to tell the child they’re not alive, that it’s his fault, and that he’s not even meant to be a child right now?!

(This isn’t even to get into the fact that the child is naked for the world to see!)

What cruelties fate leaves in-store for we who would do wrong! He thinks to himself, allowing himself a very brief moment of self-pity. Perhaps this is the way he can say he’d brought this upon himself, given everything. It was certainly a much more lenient punishment then he’d ever dared imagine!

“Huai—ah, A-Sang, don’t worry!” He scrambles for his words, equally scrambling to pick the child up and hold him to his chest. He may not have been the best father, but he had been one before! He’d even been a single father, something very unusual for one such as himself, so he knows some in’s and out’s to these things. If only he had an outer robe, perhaps he could place it around him, but for now all he can do is hold the small Huaisang, bounce him gently, and wipe his tears away with a sleeve.

“There’s no need to worry,” he tries to calm himself down, now, Ruohan does, though it’s quite apparent that he’s still not at his best himself. The situation would frazzle even the best cultivators, surely!

“Your Han-shushu is here; yes, this isn’t Qishan, but it is Han-shushu’s home, now. You’re... You will be safe here.”

If whatever is afflicting the young man—boy?—wears off, the both of them are in for Hell (Ruohan out of embarrassment, and Huaisang out of it and rage), but won’t it be alright, for now, for him to act as if there’s very little wrong? He at least hopes it’ll make the boy stop crying.

Still, he reaches out with his cultivation at the same time, trying to get to the bottom of this mess. What could have happened to the young Sect Leader?
