For the past twenty-five years, the kingdom of Havikheim has suffered at the hands of the Malevolent One–its lands plunged into drought, its rivers tainted with poison, vines threading through its borders like the spiderwebs. Now that King James and Queen Joyce’s children, Will and El, are of age to become full members of the court, matters only seem to be getting worse, far worse than the likes of their friends–Mike, Lucas, Max, and Dustin–can handle, especially when the Malevolent One strikes at the very heart of the kingdom. Not only is the future of the kingdom at stake, but Mike must reckon with the feelings he's been harboring for his best friend for the better part of nine years.

But even with the threat of the Malevolent One, Havikheim must learn that its greatest enemy sometimes lies behind the ribs of its citizens, pulsing and bleeding and broken, the body’s most traitorous organ. That, sometimes, the more devastating evil is not the man who wreaks destruction with calculated violence, but a refusal to say that which needs to be said.

Only time will tell if roses hide among the thorns and if life can bloom from that which was once dead and numb in sleep.

Hear me out-

Mike and will fighting off demobats together in the upside down and one goes to attack will and the brave knight steps in, pushes his beloved cleric out of the way, and takes the fall. The bats attack Mike instead. But will is able to fight them off before they can kill Mike. But not without leaving a few gnarly scars and bites. Soon enough, they get him home and it's just the two of them in the basement together. Will healing Mike's the best he can with peroxide and bandages and washclothes. Soon, will falls asleep by Mike. But the next morning, Mike is all healed (way too quickly) and feels 100 times better......

“Please come with me Will, it’ll be so fun I promise.” El begged me, as she sat across the dining table from me. We had just finished eating dinner, the servants were still in the process of clearing off the table when my sister El decided to bring up the annual village fair. If I was being honest, it did sound fun. I’ve never gone to it before but I heard from Mike that they always have games to play and food to eat. He once bought me a shirt that said “Long live the Light Prince” as a joke.

He tilted his head slightly as El stared at him, almost trying to make me say yes if her gaze was determined enough. It unfortunately for her it was not. “El, we can’t just go out to the village. It’s too risky” As I spoke, I glanced over to my right where my childhood best-friend Mike Wheeler was standing. Mike’s position is to always be directly next to me due to his position as Knight. Knights would normally be positioned at different stations around the castle, but due to a few different incidents where I was in the direct line of danger Mike took it upon himself to permanently be my bodyguard or in the words of the villagers “The sun protector”. Even just thinking of that title makes my cheeks burn. Mike once mentioned that although the villagers were referring to my powers of controlling light, he thinks it has a dual meaning with my personality.  

Mike clears his throat and says “Well, you could wear a disguise.” I can see out of the corner of my eye as El’s face lights up at the suggestion and exclaims “Yes! Thank you Mike, we will find something to wear so no one will know we are there.” I sigh, knowing that there is nothing else I can say to try to convince her otherwise and nod agreeing. El quickly rises out of her seat, “I have to go tell Max, I will come find you later!”

I turn to look up at Mike, forcing a small smile onto my face “Help me find something to wear?” Mike nodded quickly scanning his surroundings before stepping closer and grabbing my hand. I subconsciously copied his movements to see the room completely empty apart from us before turning my attention back to Mike.

“Hey, It’ll be okay Will. I’ll be there the whole time.” I grimaced, admitting “I know, I guess I’m just scared of Henry Creel trying to attack the kingdom while everyone is distracted. I let my guard down once before with him, and I paid the price. It took a year before the medic fully cleared me of being free from possession.”

Mike couldn’t help but frown as he thought about the past.

I was only twelve years old at the time, I was emotionally mature for my age but still naive with how the world works. I didn’t understand that not everyone has good intentions. Henry Creel was a king of one of our neighboring kingdoms, and at the time we did not have any allies. It was dangerous according to Joyce, so a ball would be held to create a bridge between the families. I was dressed in a white blouse, pants, and my crown as the accessory.

My first time meeting Henry was brief, I only had the chance to introduce myself before I was called away with other responsibilities. What I didn’t know was that Henry had his eye on me the whole night, and a domino effect was starting to haunt me.

Mike's face softens, he rubs a thumb over the back of my hand gently. “You’re safe now. You will never be hurt again, I won’t allow it.” I can’t help the shiver that runs over my whole body as I stare speechless at Mike. I know that Mike has always protected me since we were children but the conviction in his voice shocked me. I speak softly, my voice almost a whisper as the energy in the room shifts “You can’t possibly prevent everything from hurting me the rest of my life Mike.”  Smiling, he responds with “I think I can. I’ve already saved you once, what’s a thousand more?”

“Oh my god Will. Your arms…” Mike trails off staring down in horror. Will looked down blankly, seeing black veins crawling up his arms and hands. He felt like he should probably have any emotions similar to Mike like panic, but as he stared at his hands he could only blink. “Oh.” Mike’s mouth falls open in shock before he grabs one hand trying to pull it “We gotta go, we gotta get out of this castle now. We can fix you, we just gotta…Will! Let's go, what are you….” He turned back to look at Will, but Will was not facing him anymore. He was looking behind where Henry Creel was now standing, hands clasped together.

“Well, this is rather unfortunate. I should have accounted for you before, oh well. We will just have to speed the plan up won’t we Will?” As Henry spoke Mike’s hand creeped down to rest at the hilt of his sword. Will repeated “Speed the plan up…” “Let's go.” Henry turned and started to walk down the hallway, Will started to follow but was stopped by a hand gripping his wrist tightly. “Hey, hey, hey.” Mike bent down slightly, concern growing as he noticed Will’s eyes were hazy. “Will! Wake up!” Mike’s eyes were wide as they flitted back and forth between Will and Henry.

we need a byler fantasy au where they both live on a fantasy sky island and mike is training to be a knight and will is the son of the headmaster and they're best friends obviously and then one day they're flying around on their giant birds because this is a fantasy world and there are giant birds and then there's a giant tornado and will gets knocked out of the sky and he falls to earth and mike has to go on a quest down to follow him and find him and save him because that's his friend and he loves him!!

meanwhile will has found a mentor who tells him that one day a long time ago monsters burst out of the ground with the demon king demise leading them and started raining destruction, and then an ancient goddess saved the last remaining humans by cutting out a piece of the earth and floating it into the sky, and then she sealed off demise, but demise is awakening and he'll soon be out of his prison, and will is told that he's the human reincarnation of this goddess and his grand duty is to make sure that demise stays sealed, with the help of the goddess's chosen hero, who is, you guessed it, mike!
