FIREBALL
this could be the sound of Will shooting fireballs. The same OST plays 'She'll Kill You'
Will doesn't look too thrilled to use the fireballs but he can rise to the occasion when the time demands it. Till then, he'll stick to his wisdom. (possibly due to its adverse reaction, eg: nuclear bombs are potent but come with terrible side effects, irreversible damages). HE USES THEM WISELY. Foreshadowing his restrain.
*FIRE CAUTION*
Note: These might be little far-fetched. This is my failed attempt to understand why dialogues emphasised on color of fireball? i could be way off. i am following Marvel's interpretation since X-Men and Superman have been mentioned by the party.
GREEN LANTERN AND color of his ring theory
Green lantern powers(embedded in his rings) and parallel with will byers. 'Will' POWER is his actual power. Will is at the centre of his power.
Energy Projection: It can emit powerful blasts of energy, create force fields, and provide energy-based attacks for offense and defense. (electromagnetic field & fireballs?)
Data Analysis and Scanning: it can scan for information, detect energy signatures, and provide tactical analysis.(Nina project, IP?)
Teleportation: Some rings have the ability to teleport the wearer across vast distances. (true sight, now memories?)
Environmental Adaptation: It creates a life-support system for the wearer, allowing them to survive in extreme conditions, including the vacuum of space. (upside down?)
Time Travel the ring has been used to manipulate time. Wormholes and Spatial Warps: The power ring grants its wearer access to wormholes in space, enabling the ring wielder to rapidly cut time and distance needed for transport. The Guardians established at least one known wormhole to Oa, which once required the use of a power ring to enter. (Gates)
Weaknesses
Willpower Dependence: The ring’s strength is directly tied to the user’s willpower and emotional focus. If the user doubts themselves or loses concentration, the ring's effectiveness diminishes.
Limited Charge: The ring has a finite charge and must be recharged regularly using a power battery, which connects to the Central Power Battery on Oa. If it runs out of energy, the user becomes powerless. (Dustin's remark "Dead battery". eleven being drained)
speaking of charger, Mike is shown to be directly or indirectly associated with POWER SWITCH & SOCKETS ( source of energy? a charger ? a battery? for will?)
Vulnerability to Fear (Parallax Influence) : Lanterns' weakness to the 'COLOR YELLOW' came from the Fear entity trapped within the Green Lantern Corps' central power battery.
Mental or Emotional Instability: Strong negative emotions (fear, doubt, or anger) can interfere with a Green Lantern's ability to wield their ring effectively.
Mental Instability Protocol: Drug use, neural interference, vertigo or other forms of mental incapacitation can render the wearer unable to use their ring, rendered useless.
“I don’t know who’s been raising you, but I’m gonna get you some new crayons because it looks like he’s shooting cabbages.”
Is Will a Most Powerful 'Failed experiment'? like Madelyne Pryor?
Another green x-men, who is, possibly the most powerful, Goblin Queen (Clone of Jean) , X-Men Goblin Queen, Madelyne Pryor, X-Men's Most Dangerous, anti-hero. She unlocked her latent psychic powers. In addition to those, Madelyne also had the ability to perform sorcery, which she used to summon goblins and demons.
Madelyne eventually learns that she's a clone of Jean created by Mister Sinister. Sinister originally discarded her as a failed experiment, until the Phoenix itself gave Madelyne sentience.
Madelyne's powers are incredible hence the suggestion. might i add, a close parallel to will's alleged powers.
i am a more of a 'will byers is superman' kinda guy. but my personal favourite being will byers 'a divine deity/god' @greenfiend 's theory.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
connecting green lantern with Kryptonite: Green latern's ring can project beams of force powered by the will of the user. The ring can be used to 'produce kryptonite' and kryptonite radiation.
in context of SUPERMAN
Superman is a regular Kryptonian man, He gets his powers from our yellow sun, green kryptonite cancels that.
Uranium fluoresces green under U.V. light (Atomic Bomb theory correlation)
Green Kryptonite : It was a radioactive element composed of pieces of the exploded planet Krypton. Surviving natives of Krypton, Superman is weakened by exposure to Green Kryptonite. Prolonged exposure could result in fatal radiation poisoning.
Red kryptonite :Superman has suffered the following effects upon exposure to various pieces of Red Kryptonite: Transformed into a dragon, Rendered temporarily blind to anything colored green, Loss of power, Gained telepathy, Generated an evil doppelganger , Mental transference, Personality alteration
vecna mind lair is red toned
BLUE-K : most interesting one is Blue-K (Upside down is blue toned)
Blue Kryptonite can reverse the effects of Red Kryptonite and can work wonders on afflicted Kryptonians. Perhaps Will created upside down to save himself & hawkins? (Superman is credited for manufacturing Blue-K, to save fellow Kryptonian see the kryptonite handbook) Effects on Bizarro(Man of steel's doppelganger and a supervillain) Blue Kryptonite weakens Bizarro (does Upside Down weakeans Vecna, hence he needs tentacles to recharge?) in a similar way to how Green Kryptonite weakens Superman. It can also sedate Bizarro, allowing him to be apprehended. Blue Kryptonite can also have a calming effect on Bizarro, removing his rage toward Superman. Blue-k was created by reversing the ionic charge of green kryptonite.

Why Will x Chance (bychance) REALLY IS going to happen… 😳
(…temporarily let’s hope…)
Let’s first pay attention to this scene and ask ourselves why it was included at all…
youtube
“I see he’s taken a step down from Max…”
Haha such a funny line, get it? Because Erica’s insulting Jason by implying that not only is he gay for Lucas, but also a mediocre option… right? Right???
Except… lines in Stranger Things NEVER mean only one thing.
The actual double meaning/ foreshadowing:
“I see he’s taken a step down from Mike…” 😬
— us Bylers in 2025
But Erica doesn’t stop here. She goes:
“Chances are, he’s with your cheater boyfriend”.
That’s right! In this very same conversation, they included the words “Chance”, “cheater” and “boyfriend” in the same sentence. Very curious.
Now let’s take a closer look at the D&D miniature that Erica is painting in the beginning of the video.
A young male warrior painted in orange?
This surely isn’t an analogy for a young male jock in an orange Tiger mascot uniform, amirite? 🐅
Holy shit, these should be enough clues, right?
Oh, no. No, no… There’s more. 😭
The locker room posted by the Duffers, belonging to “Jock #2”. We’re looking at a basket ball, a physical science book, and…
…a car sketch. Which is “only” the symbol widely used by Netflix to symbolize bisexual men. Cue Steve Harrington’s bedroom, the movie Red, White & Royal Blue, and the show Heartstopper.
(There is an actual post here on Tumblr which details everything about this ^).
Oh, what’s that in Will’s bedroom?
A Tiger wearing a sombrero…
Is it possible Will has a thing for Latinos? 🤭
Not Chance being the mexican jock foil version of Mike…….
Oh Duffers you are SO unserious…….
Funnily enough, there is even one more clue, which I’m however not yet sure of (I have to rewatch the show).
Chance’s real first name seems to be Jedediah (yes, ridiculous). Jason supposedly addresses him by “Jed” in the show (I have to confirm this).
“Beloved of God”.
…Who in the show is God/Jesus coded…?
That’s right… Will. 🧙♂️
*the (Byler) plot thickens*

why i think Will has (electric) powers
i think he got his powers (about electricity) when he got kidnapped and brought into the upside down (by Henry?)
because Henry got his powers when he disappeared into dimension x
and i think that's how Will manipulated the lights to talk to Joyce
and i think they work based on his emotions because there's a scene at surfer boy pizza where the lights flicker while he's looking at Mike, and Steve said to Dustin that to know you like someone you have to feel the "electricity"
plus i really like flickergate so i think Will's gonna find out he has powers when Mike kisses him, and that's what made the lights flicker in s1
they said Will's power is his heart and Will called Mike his heart
so i think his love for Mike will be really important for s5 just like it was in s2 because the hand Mike held was the only part of Will not possessed
and just like Patty tried to save Henry (who was also possessed by the Mindflayer) with the "power of love" so did Mike with Will

isnt the upside down supposed to be stuck on 6th nov 1983?
then how can will see the alphabet joyce wrote on the wall???? like that was 3 days after his disappearance
he basically could see everything joyce was doing in the house in real time
like do we have any possible explanations for this?😭

how did will communicate through the lights in season 1?
In season one we see him make the lights flicker in the living room for Joyce, spelling out “run” and such, and we don’t really see the other side of this until, well, The Other Side comic—which I’m not 100% sure how much of this comic is supposed to be taken canonically.
Will is hiding in the cupboard, trying to communicate with his mom, when he hears her beg him to communicate with her, asking where he is. He looks up and suddenly sees the alphabet wall, saying, “Mom…you’re a genius,” and touches the letters on the wall, spelling out, R-I-G-H-T-H-E-R-E.
In the show, we just see the lightbulbs light up in the real world, but in the comic, we see Will in the Upside Down just simply touch the letters on the wall, creating this sort of blue electricity.
(I know it’s in Portuguese, just bear with me i couldn’t find the English version for u all)
season 4 shows otherwise:
In s4 we finally get a glimpse of how things work in the Upside Down. When Nancy, Steve, Robin, and Eddie are in the Wheeler’s house on the other side looking for Nancy’s guns in episode 7, they hear Dustin talking to Erica. The group tries to get his attention, but he can’t hear them. Nancy then remembers how Will found a way to speak to Joyce; through the lights. They try the light switches and lamps but nothing works, until Steve shines the flashlight on the ceiling chandelier, which begins to sparkle with magical fairy looking dust. They discover that touching this gold dust around the light produces light on the other side, and the viewers conclude that’s how Will must have communicated in season one.
but there are some things i just don’t get:
- How did the letters magically appear on the wall in the Upside Down?
- If the Byers’ house really is stuck on November 6th, 1983, how did Will speak to Joyce through the lights (that she bought at Melvald’s) when they weren’t even there on the day that he disappeared?
Season 4 clearly shows that you can only communicate through touching the dust around the already existing lights in the Upside Down to communicate with the other plane of existence, so how did Will manipulate the lights WITH HIS MIND in The Other Side comic?
translation:
Will: Mom! I’m here! I’m somewhere, I don’t—”
Joyce: Good, good, good. Blink once for yes…twice for no… Can you do that for me, sweetie?
Will: You…can’t hear me? What does blink mean? How will you—”
Joyce: Oh, good boy. Good boy.
Will: Is that light? Is that…her somehow?”
Joyce: Baby, I need to know. Are you alive?
Will: I…I don’t know for sure. But I think I am.
Will wanted the lights to flicker, so he MADE THEM FLICKER ! hello? I’m not a big Will-powers truther but if that’s not the case then I don’t understand how this makes sense in the comic & the show.
but how does it actually work?
Now, they kind of try to get out of this confusing plothole/mixup by showcasing this:
the idea that if something is moved on the normal plane where someone could theoretically access its ghost---or where it's supposed to be---in the Upside Down, then they could essentially still manipulate the light source.
(This is also the case when Will touches the alphabet wall. There are technically no lights on his plane, but the lights are still sensed from the regular Hawkins plane of existence.)
The group has Dustin move the Lite-Brite toy in Stranger things so they could draw IN THE AIR where the toy is in actual Hawkins, which does not add up to me because their light source (which I’m assuming the gold dust is coming from) is from the regular plane & not the Upside Down, but I guess makes sense as to how Joyce was able to move lamps & lights around their home/Will's room in season 1 and still have Will able to communicate, even though the house would not have looked the same in the Upside Down because of it being stuck on November 6th.
which brings me to the question,
how did Will know about all the lights & lamps in his bedroom and around the home (besides the alphabet wall, which he could somehow see) in season 1?
HE COULDN'T.
This is proven in The Other Side comic when Joyce tells him to "blink."
"What does blink mean?" he asks, and then my precious boy LITERALLY BLINKS (he closes his eyes) and somehow the lights flicker.
After season 4 came out, I saw so many people say things like, "Why are we just now finding out how Will communicated in the Upside Down? Why didn't Will tell everyone sooner?"
Guys... MY BOY DID NOT KNOW !😭
He wasn't touching magical fairy dust with his hands or playing with Lite-Brite's. He was literally closing his eyes and just making it happen.
HOWEVER..
The alphabet appearing on the wall in the Upside Down still makes no sense in the story, as we’re shown that everything should be the same as it was the day Will disappeared. While things in Hawkins CAN be moved around & “sensed” in the Upside Down (lights, lamps, sound, etc), the actual core can’t be physically changed because it’s stuck in time.
“But what if things that are changed in Hawkins are also changed in the Upside Down Hawkins?”
This is obviously impossible, shown in season 4 episode 7, right before the group discovers the light phenomenon, when Nancy looks for her guns and realizes they’re not there because it is stuck in time. Therefore, Will somehow seeing the alphabet wall in the Upside Down makes no sense. Him making it light up DOES makes sense, however, according to season 4 logic, but him seeing it doesn’t seem to fit with the narrative the Duffers have created surrounding light sources within the Stranger Things universe.
so, does will have powers?
I am personally not super big on the Will Byers powers theories, but honestly there aren’t many explanations as to how exactly he manipulated flickering the lights in season 1 and The Other Side comic. In the s5 teaser released yesterday, we see behind-the-scenes of young Will falling out of a tree in the Upside Down.
That, paired with the older BTS photo of young Will laying in Castle Byers,
means that we’re finally getting Will’s side of the story way back from s1, so we’ll be able to see how much of The Other Side is actually canon !

ptsd flashbacks, hyperphantasia and true sight - Max's drawings in 4x05 were too good, actually
cw discussions of ptsd
I was thinking about how, the morning after she escaped Vecna's lair, Max took upon drawing what she saw there. Mostly HOW she drew those pictures:
Separate elements, fragmented individual snapshots (like an officer taking pictures at a crime scene- by the way, check out @threemanoperation's post about other instances of weird puzzle collage-solving-seemingly-without-a-reference here; it was a major inspo for this post). Sure, nobody was expecting her to render a single 360° view of Vecna's mindspace, but her drawings are more than clear enough. This level of detail (the broken, scattered structures, trinkets, Chrissy and Fred's bodies in their current state, mixing the crayon colors available in Holly's box so they'd more closely match what she saw, the different angles) is more than quite accurate for someone who 1) hadn't previously been labelled as skilled in drawing and 2) might have been scared for her life to mindfully focus on her surroundings. I have two main questions, both quite connected to one another, but I'm afraid I won't be able to answer them fully: how and why.
how could max remember so clearly what she saw in vecna's mindscape and externalize her memories with such high fidelity?
some assault/attemped m*rder survivors have very vivid memories of the moment they were attacked -those memories might not even be limited to image and sound, but even smells, textures, etc.
When traumatic memories are retrieved, the physical stress response actually serves to strengthen them, to reinforce the memory in the circuits of the brain. The PTSD response makes these memories stronger and stronger over time. [Survivors] may not remember all of the details, but the things that they do remember remain sharp and consistent.
There's no clear-cut time frame for how long it takes for our brains to initiate and run this process, so I'd not rule out something of the sort might have happened to Max from the moment she came back and the next morning at the Wheelers' (plus she didn't sleep at all and probably saw those images any time she closed her eyes). However, I can't help but consider what I said above about Max's main focus probably being elsewhere in that moment, along with the fact that Max's drawings were beyond beginner (as in, not hobby) level (did you see how many different vanishing points she used for the 'floating' objects???), and a very important detail she mentions herself: her walking into the red mindscape wasn't Vecna trying to scare her per se -he did NOT want her to see that, so he probably didn't want her to remember that place either. Yes, he had seemed kind of... "peacock-y" when it came to the classic "serial k*ller leaves crumbs bc he secretly wants to be found out", but he has to call the shots on who gets to see what, like he eventually did with Nancy. Max managed to "infiltrate" his mind bc he did the same to her first, so would it be far-fetched to think that, if it was only up to him, he'd make sure to block or take away those memories from her to patch what ultimately becomes an exploitable vulnerability for the Party and co?
unless someone else, in a similar position to Vecna -or even higher-, was on the Party's side-
I want to explore two possible explanations as to why max was able to retain such clear images/memories, stemming mainly from @greenfiend and @/kaypeace21's posts about DID theory. One: with Vecna being Will's persecutor alter, escaping his claws might have 'granted' Max an ability that has a similar-ish equivalent on an irl condition that can influence memory processing: hyperphantasia.
Hyperphantasia is the condition of having extremely vivid mental imagery. [It] has been described as being "as vivid as real seeing" [...] Vivid mental imagery as observed in hyperphantasia impacts people's ability for "mental time travel", or the ability to remember past events as well as imagine future events. Hyperphantasics have reported more sensory details of episodic memories and future event constructions.
sadly, it's more of a curse that a boon:
Vivid imagery has been correlated to several mood disorders, particularly anxiety, major depressive disorder, and bipolar disorder, and having hyperphantasia may exacerbate symptoms of such disorders by subserving ruminating thoughts as well as acting as an "emotional amplifier" [...] The vividness of mental imagery has a key role in the development and continuation of intrusive memories, so for those with PTSD, having hyperphantasia is a substantial risk factor.
if this sounds a bit familiar, it's because it's tied to the second possible explanation: Max, being an alter of Will, acquiring/borrowing the host's artistic abilities/motor skills (to a degree*) and a flash of his True Sight so she could help the party navigate that part of the hivemind as if they themselves had been there. or, similar to Billy, she was 'activated' (re: influenced/possessed) to help the party with this particular task.
*at first I thought this detail was too much of a reach, but then I remember how similar Max's and El's -another alter- drawings were in The Piggyback (although El's had bigger heads both times), and how stickmen were either a deliberate choice by Max or just her back to default:
#stranger things#max mayfield#will byers#el hopper#will byers has powers#or yk these might just be visual storytelling devices to speed up exposition scenes#i default to stickmen most of the time @ work bc im in a hurry. but i've also met others who have a very appealing way to draw ppl quickly#idk this fandom's smart someone might see something here that i dont#eleven stranger things#stranger things speculation#st synapse#stranger things theory#st vecna#or max is just hyperfantasic herself who knows

So we know that "You make [me] feel like [I'm] not a mistake at all" is in reference to Will's sexuality, but another time we see Mike helping Will feel better for being different is when he was afflicted with true sight and now-memories IE the "superspy" talk.
It's almost like his sexuality arc and his connection to the supernatural are interconnected 🤔

Oh, what am I up to??? you know... normal things....
So we knew this but from this the ones most in danger are still El, Will & Nancy.... Holly and Karen might be the way Vecna wants to reach them
Motives:
Revenge -> El sent Henry in Dimension X and refused to help him
Revenge -> Nancy shot him in S4 and disturbed his plans in season 3 before everyone else
Will... He survived him? (It doesn't seem he wants to kill Will imo but idk)
Obviously if you hurt/kidnap Holly you're hurting Nancy AND Will and El because you hurt Mike and they are the closest to him... Through Holly he can reach all his targets...
I could have put Will in the killed by Vecna category technically but I'm not sure he wanted to kill him in season 1, Will says he didn't in season 2, and also it seems like he was keeping him alive with the vines and when Joyce and Hop removed it that is what made him die before he was brought back...
Options:
He underestimated his strength and after he survived he let him live because he needed Will to be a spy to reach El (after he saw El reach out to him in the Void in s1) and then kept using him as a spy
He needs Will's powers (Will has powers truthers 🫶)
He relates to Will's mind and wants Will to join him willingly because of that
He doesn't want to kill Joyce's son because Joyce was kind to him when he was little since they knew each other (?) I doubt this because he's still torturing him... although maybe in his mind it makes sense idk
Multiple options combined
Options if he needs Will alive:
He wants his powers (Creation powers? Controlling light/electricity? Time&space manipulation?)
Will's blood has something special (that can cure the UD infection somehow?)
Will took something from him/formed a bond with his mind through the vines and he can't kill him without hurting himself at the same time unless Will joins him willingly
Multiple options combined
If Will has creation/time&space manipulation powers:
Will shaped Dimension X as the Upside Down Hawkins trapping Vecna in that realm at the same time, and Vecna wants him to use his powers again to "create a new world" on earth like he did in the Upside Down

Weekly Polls: Will's Possible Powers
Hello all. We hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving weekend! After that holiday break, we wanted to jump back in with our weekly polls.
Our polls will not always be strictly about Byler as a couple, and may feature only one half of them, but we will try to alternate poll topics to keep it balanced.
Today, we wanted to ask about a highly anticipated, yet hotly debated part of season 5— that being Will's possible powers. What kind does he have? Does he have more than one? Or none at all?
Please feel free to elaborate in the tags or as a comment on this post. We encourage healthy conversation, and would like to keep any fighting or name-calling off of this post.
FYI: If you are interested, check out our submission form
