Can you tell us your the reasons for why you like Papyrus? (I’m sure you’ve did this before xd, but I always enjoyed rambles about Papyrus. Hope you’re well!)

oh it is 100% his whole loneliness thing. growing up i was a chronic friend group hopper all the way from kindergarten to 8th grade and then by high school that didn't work anymore so i just kinda didn't have any genuine friends for basically that entire 4 years. so hyperfixating so hard on a character who's basically completely centered around that struggle helped me feel a bit less hopeless about it. the funny thing is i think pre-undertale papyrus actually had more friends than i did back then but like its the little things

that's why this fic that i'm gonna plug again hit me so hard tbh. shit sucks when you're trying so so hard to be friendly and engage in other people and then you get to a point where you have to realize they're not at all interested in returning the favor, even if they're not overtly rude about it or anything, they just don't care to get to know you any deeper than surface level convenience and it gets real hard to not let yourself get angsty about it lmao

i do think that while sometimes i wish i hadn't been given such free internet access as a kid i'm still really lucky that i was able to be exposed to undertale when i was. it's such a unapologetically hopeful game that i'm sure it absolutely impacted the way that i think about things today in terms of optimism and the ability to turn bad situations around, and papyrus plays a huuuge part of that entire message. if it weren't for him, i'm honestly not sure if i would've had the drive to keep trying to connect with other people even when it didn't work for so long.

so tl;dr thank you funny little skeleton man for constantly reminding me that making friends is still possible even when your demeanor is frankly weird as fuck. sometimes you just gotta keep truckin until you find your people even if it takes a while

My version of Ivan Seal's 'Pittor pickgown in khatheinstersper' (Everywhere At The End Of Time - Stage 2) I had the need to illustrate this out cause I could not unsee it and I want others to see this as well. Please look at the original piece while reading this if you wish to compare my variant with Ivan Seals. (Also listen to the music album for context, it's a representation of the stages of dementia.) All I could see were two lovers, dancing around in a meadow chasing after each other around, and around, and around. Perhaps it was a small cherished memory of the olden days back in the 1950s or 80s, when you had met your first lover in youth. Their faces shrouded in a veil, unsure what the exact faces look like but you know who they are. The silhouetted features and attire are still prevalent in the memory but is slowly diminishing in color vibrancy. The vase holding flowers that are showing the first signs of wilt in death. The top of the bloom starting to be too heavy to support the top of the steam. At the bottom of the vase, between the two lovers, is a crack. Signifying the first stages of the loving memory chipping away into the eventual blur of forgetting. The music that goes along with this piece just makes it that more impactful. Stage 2 being more somber in the last moments before stage 3, where the synapse in the neurons starts becoming more chaotic, tangled, and broken. Drifting the memory into permanent oblivion.

i think what compels me so much about the galfrey corruption arc (and alternate character endings in general, even the darker ones) is that it's such an interesting thing to be able to see the worst version of a character, and it gives so much insight to them!

and it's something that's pretty unique to video games. other media can have 'dark timelines' and things of that nature but rpg's are the only thing i can really think of where you can draw such direct lines between a character's traits that are constant in every iteration and choices/fates that vary wildly based on other variables and! i love that! it's like the definition of putting a character under a microscope! you get to see new facets of the character and appreciate their other endings that much more!

and i love when there isn't a clear cut good/bad ending too! that's also so interesting! it comes down to what the MC values and how they influence people in their lives, and there's no right answer just versions of the character that have grown in different directions!

and for galfrey in particular the devil arc is a pretty definite bad ending, but it's such an weighty bad ending, and so much more narratively juicy than her other bad ending of 'she gets killed by the KC who doesn't face any actual consequences for that choice'
