i prefer reading AND writing multi-chapter fics, bc its so much fun to explore stuff. however. The Horrors. i can dream about writing a multi-chapter fic all i want but it doesnt mean ill ever finish it (rest in piece my fleabag fyozai fic that's infamous on my bsd server bc i never shut up about it. also the fyozai betrayal AU fic. pensive emoji.)

the fic i'd say i've done the most research on is this one (mafia Dazai training Akutagawa) but the fic i've put the most work into being really good and me liking it has to be this one. its not BSD, but its a character study of a guy from another fandom and his interest in death and passive suicidality. i spent 3 days postponing every single other obligation other than food and just sat in bed writing this. 4th day i did nothing but chores and then i didnt write anything else for a week lol

least work is hard bc i have a philosophy that i can do whatever i want forever so i Will just write something in an hour and post it with no research, all pure self-indulgence. but i'll use a fic i should have done research on: this one. i really should've planned that out better. idk if anyone still follows me for httyd or has read that fic of mine but i do plan on rewriting it someday

22. Have you used any symbolism in [insert fic]? What does it represent?

OH boy.

so. fucked-up girl fic actually doesn't Have much real symbolism, only a couple remarks on my headcanons for various things.

today he had to eat an apple whole because he could not pick up a knife-

this one is easy, referencing dazai's suicidality and the fact he is trying. just a slight reference to him actively changing/being unable to do something, and also his issues with food.

He starts targeting.

Dazai is very, very still.

Atsushi backtracks so fast that he stumbles over his words, forgetting entirely Dazai’s contradictory explanations,

little things about dazai's manipulation in everything. boy can't admit shit. he's very roundabout with admitting anything close to himself (why i hc fyodor is so good for him, because they can trade those vague references back and forth and understand each other) and a trait i assign to him is saying vulnerable things in as few words as possible. he doesn't explain stuff.

Dazai’s body aches, and he turns, walks over to his desk, sits down. His clothes constrict.

gender issues but also, as mentioned in my comment on your fic, i hc dazai just hates his body. he has to shower with the lights off sometimes, can get dressed without looking at himself once. he very much dislikes perceiving the fact he has a body.

The ADA thinks that they’re dating. Him and Yosano.��

not symbolism or a hc but this was the premise of the entire fic. the agency thinking dazai and yosano were dating when really dazai just had severe gender envy

“Zai.”

little hc! yosano specifically uses this nickname for dazai when affectionate. atsushi and kunikida don't use any actual nicknames derived from his name; chuuya uses this nickname sometimes; ranpo uses this nickname somewhere between chuuya and yosano bc ranpo is putting in the least effort to get his attention lol

The conclusion is obvious. Dazai should explain that’s not what he means, but he can’t get his mouth to work to speak honestly. 

this whole conversation was the biggest indicator of dazai being unable to elaborate/saying things in as few words as possible. he's not a pathological liar, i just think sometimes it is physically painful to have to elaborate vulnerable things verbally for him. e.g. "it's because you're a woman" and yosano having to debate the fact dazai could be going after her, dazai Knowing what kind of conclusion she'd jump to immediately As a woman, and yet he just cannot explain it further because it is vulnerability. HENCE why i like him and fyodor, because fyodor can make those kinds of connections as quick as dazai can.

not a hc or symbolism but. Boy why do you talk about women so much and yet date none of them. almost actively make yourself undesirable to them. Sir. My guy. i know what you are

special lil hc i have. the mafia is very open and accepting because they simply have bigger priorities than who's kissing who. mori simply does not give a shit if his agents are consorting or if his lead agent goes from a girl to a guy. he won't provide monetary support and unless it's physically disabling he won't make exceptions to rules, but if he's told that someone's pronouns have changed or whatever he'll go "cool" and change the name/pronouns in all of the system, start using them, and be done with it. his only concern is performance and as far as he cares, sex and gender are irrelevant. (on that note, harrassment isn't tolerated because why are you harrassing them for being gay when you can harrass them for the multiple enemies they didn't kill last mission. cmon now.)

this also comes with the caveat that the kids raised in the mafia aren't really educated on it. they're taught normal class subjects, e.g. math, english, etc. and they're taught mafia protocol, and they're allowed to get their own reading material, but the mafia puts in as much effort to teach them about queer people as they do to teach them about heterosexual people. (they do get sex ed tho, which is basic as ever, and which dazai is a whole menace during)

and dazai, obviously, would not really be that interested in either to read about. being brought in so young, i think he was never really taught bias against queer people, so when he had the revelation that he liked chuuya he was just kinda. oh ok. and when he has the feelings about his body that he doesn't like it, he has much bigger priorities (namely the quickest way to die) than figuring out whatever the hell that is.

so it ends up that dazai just kinda is queer and has no idea what it is. he knows he hates his body and he knows he likes chuuya, probably has some surface level knowledge of gay/bi/lesbian/etc. but otherwise no, he's never sought out specifically to figure out the terms for what he's feeling. he actually really hates perceiving himself in any way lol

He still looks like himself,

this little bit: he hates perceiving himself in any way, but he still wants to be him. he doesn't want to change his name or his reputation or whatever else, he doesn't want to be a different person. he just wants to be a dazai that he likes.

It would look wrong be inconvenient for him, and take so much effort. Just… so much. So much that he can’t handle. Managing himself is hard regularly - adding on this, whatever it is, would be biting off more than he could chew. 

there's a river called de nile-

dazai is denying the fact he thinks being a woman would look wrong because of his years of being in a masculine body like he is, hence the calluses mention. but he also is right, that he wouldn't be able to upkeep it. he has to be in a better spot/it has to be something very slow and gradual for him to be able to keep it up long enough to maintain a desirable appearance. he's sorta using it as an excuse to not do it but also he just doesn't want to put in that much effort into it.

now for the matcha fic!

Very big hc and symbolism for this fic: Dazai's ability.

it is an ability nullifier, and i stand by the idea that abilities have some kind of effect on their user and are somewhat sentient. Atsushi's tiger, for one, is not only a transformation but the shape of the ability inside him, and Kyouka's Demon Snow is a whole being as the ability itself.

so for Dazai, he described it once as an "anti-ability." which. what the hell. whump beams him.

i have the hc that Dazai's ability makes him cold because most ability users can feel their ability hummign beneath their skin. most abilities are warm, alive, and it's like a constant low electric current or adrenaline rushing through them, as omnipresent as a heartbeat or breath. just a fact of being alive is that feeling. so then: when Dazai nullifies other people's ability, they can Feel the absence of it, they can feel very empty and very cold. when Dazai is the host of that nullification ability, it's just that electric warmth reversed. an icy cold, all the time, because NLH is a black hole as opposed to a sun. (all my metaphors relate NLH more to an icy lake, but that's the dichotomy)

i don't ascribe Dazai's emptiness entirely to NLH, but i do think it contributes and that he has a complex about the relationship between his own issues with emotion, empathy, and the fact NLH lives inside him.

and that cold gets much worse whenever Dazai actually does nullify an ability depending on how strong it is/how much is being used at the time, therefore the remark about him making a science on how bad it'll affect him, and that scene about him being overwhelmed by nullifying Chuuya's ability; he miscalculated, and was caught off guard by NLH activating so strongly, esp given his injuries and physical weakness already in that moment

and another little HC: Dazai's hinted to have been in an even worse place before Mori and abilities are said to be activated from trauma. so i like to hc Dazai's ability as activating from the result of being tortured with abilities, from a deep desire to stop the torture, also in some kind of lab setting. and from there, Dazai escaped, and Mori got this very damaged child.

so then, through the matcha fic, Dazai latches onto it because the warmth of the tea chases away the cold of NLH.

another thread through this fic: Mori and Dazai's relationship. i think Mori was trying to keep Dazai alive as an asset to the mafia, and that he never... regretted? bringing him in as much as wished Dazai had never shown up at his doorstep in the first place, because Mori sees the value of his skills way too much to regret using them. but Mori also knows kids aren't supposed to do what Dazai is doing. and he also sees the emptiness in Dazai and all his general issues. so it's this very messy tangle of like. Mori can't care for him like a father because, yknow, mafia boss and Mori himself also has manipulation and control issues, but also he's much fonder of him than most others, even Chuuya. no one else would have been able to get away with all the shenanigans Dazai inflicts on him (that kid bullies mori so hard. it's very comical). Mori is simultaneously training him and raising him in a life-or-death environment for them both and it's so messy.

“I’ll make us all some hot tea!” Atsushi raises an eyebrow, skeptical. “Are you sure you won’t… burn the Agency down, Dazai?”

little note here: i think dazai curates an image of incompetency specifically because of his competency in the mafia. obviously everyone there knows he's actually competent, but he hides just how competent he is. partially to get up to his own shenanigans hiding his mafia connections and whatever else, but also partially because he doesn't want to be known as something like the demon prodigy again.

when it's serious, they know he can hold his own (prison arc) but otherwise. he is faking so much incompetency.

“I’ll make a deal - if you manage to make matcha tea as well as I do, I can get you your own expensive set for the holidays~”

ok listen. listen. the slap that dazai gave atsushi lives rent free in my mind because of the moment of hesitation just before it. everyone villainizes dazai for slapping atsushi while entirely ignoring the brief hesitation just before it.

dazai was both trained (as an agent) and raised (as a teenager) by mori. and oda was not a very good dad either. he doesn't have the best role model, for one. but he's also very self-aware when he's older and i think he can separate "father" mori and "mafia boss" mori in his actions. he knows when mori was trying to raise him and he knows when mori was trying to train him.

now. now guess what dazai is to atsushi. a trainer. and dazai is still taking the place of someone older and more experienced teaching atsushi not only combat skills but also life skills/growing-up skills. and we all saw how dazai got with akutagawa; that was an environment conducive to that kind of treatment, where that was being encouraged.

now the agency doesn't condone physical violence and dazai knows that. and he is very clearly trying to be a good person like oda asked him to. so, with that moment of hesitation, he clearly did not want to slap atsushi. but someone else's post words this better: he got complacent at the agency, forgot mori's ruthlessness, and with the threat against atsushi and release of Q he remembered he couldn't be so complacent and began to slip back into the old mafia thinking as a way to survive.

and with atsushi breaking down and not listening to him, the agency threatened by mori and Q, a threat that made even dazai flinch, i hc he got overwhelmed, knew there was one method that got guaranteed results, knew the agency didn't condone it, but was overwhelmed enough that he just. lashed out in a way he knew guaranteed would work, and would get atsushi to listen to him.

so . very long rant just to say that i think dazai is fighting, a bit, to balance his experience of being trained-and-raised, with him training-and-raising atsushi, but he knows the difference clearly between the two and so he'll cherrypick actions like the deal mori made with the matcha tea.

deep breath. it's been like an hour and a half. jfc. anyway there's your answers hsfdbhsdf i have many many thoughts on dazai

Author's Notes: The Httyd side of Tumblr has been talking on a God of Dragons AU, an AU that I quite like. So I decided to share one of my own!

For many years now, Astrid has been the chieftess of Berk and she’s been a Dragon Rider for much longer. She has seen many things in her life, been through a lot of bad and a lot of good, her body itself is a storybook. She considers them the reason why she is the capable warrior and leader that her people need her to be today.

But this… this is a first.

It happens at the end of a battle. The Berserkers were under attack by a hostile tribe and the Hooligans responded to their call for aid, honoring their alliance. The enemy was numerous and strong, but they were still both outmatched and outnumbered by their warriors, their dragons and their Dragon Riders. Their attempt to plunder the Berserkers was cute for sure, but in the end they had to admit defeat. The Berserker Chieftess, Heather, captured their leader.

Their spat was about the dragons. Just because the Berserkers have a few, having adopted Berk’s human-dragon utopian lifestyle, they were mistaken for being them. The thought of it makes her scoff, her late-husband didn’t dedicate his entire life to his mission of helping humans and dragons co-exist just for another tribe to be given that glore, whether it was on purpose or not.

Cleaning her axe free of blood, Stormfly pads up behind her and picks at her braid.

“Stormfly,” Astrid greets her dragon, her most trusted companion. Swinging her weapon over her shoulder and turning towards her to hold her chin. They’ve survived another battle together and she can see that the other Dragon Riders have as well, it does her heart good. The twins are a little signed, but nothing that they haven’t survived before.

Astrid realizes the reason she and her friends are still alive is in part due to the help of the wild dragons in the area joining the fight. It’s not an entirely uncommon occurrence, it’s happened on occasion in the past. Astrid is just glad that their unlikely friends could somehow tell the difference between the Hooligans, the Berserkers and the enemy for once. If humans fight in a territory they consider theirs, dragons tend to think every human is an interloper, even if they’re Dragon Riders.

No matter, it means they can all go home alive and relatively unharmed. Besides a sore shoulder where she took a bludgeon, she’s okay. She has her pauldrons to thank for that, her right one is bent out of shape.

Stormfly begins to chirp and squawk, her wings flap and flutter, head bobbing as if greeting. Out of nowhere, any hint of tiredness seems to have disappeared as she’s suddenly excited.

“Stormfly!” Astrid attempts to ease her dragon, wondering just what has ruffled her proverbial feathers. The Nadder seems to be calling out to something or someone. Astrid turns to look at who or what it is. When she realizes the source for her dragon’s excitement, she feels her heart halt behind her breast.

Up there, up on top of a cliff, she sees a dragon she hasn’t seen since before she became the chieftess of her village. A black and intimidating creature rare in the Barbaric Archipelago; a Night Fury. And Astrid swears she recognizes this one.

“Toothless?” The name slips past her lips before she can stop it, she hasn’t said it out loud in years.

The Night Fury looks her way and there’s no mistaking it. That’s him. It has to be him! One of her boys!

That’s when she sees the unmistakable figure of a man kneeling next to him, looking down from the cliff at the battlefield below with interest.

At the sight of him, her heart is torn out of her chest all over again, old wounds bleed and the iron chieftess of the nigh unbeatable human-dragon tribe is moved to tears.

Not even the distance between her position and the top of that cliff can dispute it. That’s Toothless and the man next to him is Hiccup.

She doesn’t know how it’s possible.

Years ago, decades ago, her husband and his dragon left their village together with her mother-in-law and her dragon, the Stormcutter Cloudjumper, on a mission and none of them ever returned. There were no letters, search and rescue missions turned up nothing, neither allies nor enemies had any idea where they might’ve gone. Valka and Cloudjumper eventually turned up, but even they had no idea what had happened to Hiccup and Toothless.

And now here they are.

“Hiccup,” a crack in her voice, a couple of steps closer, Astrid can’t find the strength to climb up on Stormfly’s back. She should be going right up there, question him, hug him and never let him go. Hug them and never let them go.

But something stops her and that something is the details.

Astrid is no longer a young woman. She has matured, she has wrinkles and a couple of gray hairs, though time has only aged her like a fine wine and she finds she’s stronger than she was back then.

But Hiccup… it’s as if he hasn’t aged a day. Perhaps, it’s the distance, but it’s truly as if she’s gazing up at her young husband, who she lost before they could start a family. They just barely got to celebrate their one year anniversary.

Stormfly calls out again, head bobbing, and Hiccup looks over. Their eyes meet and Astrid is even more convinced that she’s staring up at familiar eyes.

But there’s… no response. No flash of recognition on his part, not a hint of softness in his features, no attempt to say anything to her, even his attire appears guarded.

Not one single battle injury can ever compare to the pain and confusion she feels. The only comparison was the devastating realization that she was never going to see the love of her life ever again.

“Hiccup!” So she takes the first step, she calls out to him and finally there’s something of a reply.

He stands and backs away, Toothless growling.

“Fishlegs! Heather!” Astrid turns to the battlefield behind her, hoping she’s not the only one to see this, hoping to get someone’s attention, alert them. But they’re somewhat isolated, they’ve ended up quite far, friends looking her way, but incapable of seeing what she’s seeing or understanding what she’s shouting. Tuffnut cups both ears, Ruffnut is waving her arms while Snotlout is staring. Fishlegs is the only one running over.

By the time he reaches her, Hiccup might be gone.

So she climbs up on Stormfly back, intending to urge her dragon to go up to where she spotted her lost love. But when she looks up, the cliff is empty. Hiccup is already gone and so is Toothless.

And just as suddenly, she can’t stop the tears or the sobs from coming.

Welcome to my blog! My name is Wayward (not irl obviously. Though I wish) Just some basic information *ahem* I'm transmasc, androgenous (masc leaning), omniflux (but mostly mlm). This blog is mainly for my shit posting, doom scrolling, fandom shenanigans, hyper fixations and it's my main. Everything else I do branches off into its own blog. Kinda like blog children. Bloglins you could even call them. (I'm coining that term. Mine now) My current hyper fixations are TMNT and HTTYD.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

13, but really 7, because all but one of them are Finnish and English language versions of the same stories sjdfnasdfj

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Well,,, the fandoms I’ve published fic for are Hetalia (kringelis krongelis i know) and The Owl House, but when you add WIPs there’s also the Mandalorian, Noragami, and BNHA, and there USED to be HTTYD and GNG as well. Yeah the last one is the old anime where dogs fight bears. What can I say it’s really popular in Finland, Hopeanuoli 4ever

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

hands, grasping (the one TOH fic so no surprise there), Six Sunflowers (which is the oldest), Traitor’s Glory, Two Boys, Two Moments in Time, and lastly December 30th, 1929. 

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I mean I do try! When I leave comments it’s always nice to get answers, so I think it’s just nice to answer others. :) I do have some comments atm I’ve not answered but. Well. Just look at my url lmao

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

LMAO. I have no idea. I’m just going by the published ones here, but like: character seemingly falls to his death, character finds his mom’s dead on his 9th birthday and is left with his two other underage siblings to fend for themselves in the 1930s ussr, character resigns himself to the fact that his siblings probably hate him as he’s starving to death in a prison camp. Which one’s the angstiest? You choose!!

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Lmaooo well none of them are really _happy_, uh. I think Laid Down By Human Hands has probably the most neutral ending, whereas Six Sunflowers is more bittersweet, but like the sweet is there… And then Two Boys isn’t terrible either? Like it sucks a little cuz that kid’s living in WWII time Finland ya know, but it’s _fine_. I dunno! In truth it’s probably the fic on anon that’s the least terrible, but even that ending’s not a _happy_ one, it’s got unrequited pining in it lol.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Nope! So far at least! I don’t think my fics are popular enough to get it haha.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Nope! I’m almost strictly a gen writer, aside from like. 2 AUs and one TOH wip. I guess some of the WIPs could potentially and maybe should have some fade to black kinda scenes because they’re stories involving a fair amount of romance and in one of them it’s even kind of relevant to the plot. But yeah no. 

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

WELL, okay. You see, I actually started out writing via original fiction? I was like 12 when I made up a story based on a long-lasting play-pretend during recess thing I had going on with my dear friend, and it was. Written and plotted by a 12-year-old. But THEN I got really into the How To Train Your Dragon movies, and then I crossed over my story and HTTYD and then tried (still kinda low-key sorta in the process of) to separate it into my original story again, but this time with dragons! So that’s. Like the craziest journey ahfijsd my original as-of-yet unwritten fantasy story has a crossover sequel with HTTYD lmao. Also just occasionally I think about a potential giant crossover that’s got allllll my faves meeting and interacting, but that’s solely for daydreaming and “lmao wouldn’t it be funny if” -scenarios in my head. I’ve later also crossed the characters from my original story with other ones I’ve liked, in my head lol, but I don’t think I’ve written out any. Other than the TT x HTTYD hybrid. (TT is the WIP name for that original story. it doesn’t stand for anything anymore tho lmao it’s just tt)

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Nope! Not to my knowledge, at least! Again, my fics don’t get enough hits/are too niche for anyone to think about stealing them, I imagine. 

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yeah! Almost all of them! By me. What can I say, I try to fight the good fight to keep my native language alive on the internet and also in my head. 

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No. I did once talk about the possibility with a friend, but nothing ever came out of it. 

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

Hhhh. This is very silly but I don’t really actively ship stuff, and rarely think of ships outside of when I’m watching or reading the source material or something. Thus the one I can feel confident in saying I ship is a…. oc x canon ship sshfskjfsidkfajksaf or maybe it’d be more accurate to say oc x mutated blorbo version of a canon character lmao. It’s mainly in. 2 AUs that have so little to do with the source material that they might as well be original fiction and probably by this point mostly are lol. 

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

GHHH I want to finish ALL of my big 5 main WIPs because I love them dearly and want to read them, but then again. I don’t know if I ever will because I can’t get myself to fuckin WRITE any of them. So I’m just gonna say all of my main WIPs. That is:

TT (original fantasy story thing)

home front fic (historical fic set in WWII Finland about the friendship between a kid and the soviet POW sent to work on his home farm)

Kingdom AU (girl from the country accidentally befriends the crown prince and there’s politics and they fall in love and some cool stuff and some less cool stuff happens. hard to summarize cuz i’ve never had to, target demographic is like. three people + me. here's the aesthetics and vibe blog it's got)

sad BNHA fic (what if. Eri got ofa. but how? i murder someone to haunt the narrative. easy. sad. sad bnha fd. naming skills on full display here) 

anddddd. hypothetical TOH fic (what if i came up with what happens after TTT before the two other eps of s3 came out and stayed on that path. what if the first thing i wrote about it was hunter falling off a cliff to his death. what then).

Kind of also TOH fic 3 (it’s about evelynnnnn) but that one is. Hopefully. Shorter and has the outline all written out so there’s a bigger likelihood of me finishing it someday. And to be fair the hypothetical TOH fic isn’t that long either, I could get it done, one day, but then the other ones have grown to massive size plotwise so I don’t know if I could ever get them done, actually. I hope so! But ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

16. What are your writing strengths?

I guess my plots are sometimes kinda good? Sad BNHA fic and Kingdom AU are pretty cool on that side. I used to be pretty good at writing dialogue too, but that was back when I a) wrote regularly, b) read a lot, and c) socialized. So. But I used to be good! though back then my plots were real frickin weird lol. in my defense. i was 14 to 17.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Writing itself. That’s the only answer I’ve got because recently I haven’t written enough to know what I’d be bad at. So just. Writing. See I can plot without writing, that’s why I’m good at that lmao

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Sure! Hell yeah! I’m gonna do that! I have done that! I love it, I love languages. Though translations are appreciated. Though I think it should be for emphasis, more so than just writing it in the language just for the hell of it (though like I had a wip where all the spoken dialogue was to be in Russian because there was so little of it and it was simple enough that I could do that, but i lost my notes for it). I think if it’s just normal dialogue and the pov character knows the language, it’s best to just add like, “they said in Finnish” to the dialogue tag, especially if there’s a lot of it. 

In my personal opinion, also when the character doesn’t know the language, I probably wouldn’t write it out? But then if a character knew the basics of the language and it was maybe one sentence I would write it in the language. Or if it was a really important line, like someone telling another character they love them in their native language, or a culturally significant thing, like, idk the adoption vow in mando'a in the Star Wars universe. But sometimes it’s also just fun to show off your own language skills! So overall, strongly encouraged. Just. Try not to use Google Translate (etc.) for it jfajfasjdn

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Hhooo. Probably the Ginga-fandom, but that one was so brief it barely counts, so I’ll say HTTYD because of the crossover thing. If it’s just fanfic without crossing it over with my own original work lol then Hetalia. 

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

TRAITOR’S GLORY!!!!!! I got to talk about my rather niche but intense area of interest in it, which is Soviet POWs in Finland during the Continuation War 1941-1944. Well, that’s the finished one at least, there are some snippets of WIPs I’ve not posted nor finished that are also very good. Imo. But. Yeah. Most of the other favourite stuff I have, concerning my fics, hasn’t been written. So. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But Traitor’s Glory is pretty nice. :)  Thanks again for the tag! 🍍 What kind of AUs do you like? Are there any AUs you hate or just generally have beef with?

I love modern aus and fantasy-ish aus so much!! like... give me the old classic café au, college au, meet ugly and/or meet cute, and I melt every time!!! I have beef with pwp but mostly because I have an unhealthy past with them and I now much prefer stuff full of feelings and meaning (although I love my fair bit of nsfw when needed!) and I generally struggle to read ongoing fics with more than 10-20 chapters and the /? instead of the specific number of chapters because I always feel like they'll be dropped

🍑 If you could make a connection between your favorite character and another work you care about (whether a crossover/fusion or a wonderfully “pretentious” literary reference) what would it be? How would it work?

I love writing fics of crows in other universes!!! alternate universe - and I throw them in every media that I consume (I already wrote the owl house and Percy Jackson and the olympians aus, and amongst my wips there's spiderman, fairy oak, httyd aus, etc.). I tend to write aus like this or modern aus rather than character studies or canon compliant or post-canon fics, even though I want and try my hand at those as well

🫐 What’s your favorite underrated thing in your fandom? (A ship that only you seem to write for, a character there’s almost no fics about, a trope that criminally hasn’t been written yet, etc.)

I am so fond of older brother Wylan that my first ever (unpublished) fic revolved a lot around that trope and my second fic (published, the kindergarten teacher jesper au) also has that trope!! which angeldemon au will have as well, and pjo au had... so!! older brother Wylan with little Plumje has to be my favorite underrated trope to throw in fics every now and then

🍐 Is there anything in canon that you absolutely hate and love to fix in fics? A wrong choice made, a fuck-up in characterization, a misunderstanding never cleared up, a conversation never shown onscreen, etc…

not a popular opinion I know but!!! the fuck-boy, town-slut Jesper agenda just doesn't sit right with me😭 when I read the books I had this very specific vision of Jesper like the flirty guy who is in truth a virgin and flirts for fun (and... you know, because of all his trauma and sadness and anger) and I know that someone wrote a fic (that I still haven't read unfortunately) about demisexual jesper that is very close to how I see him!!! so, yeah, bringing forth the agenda of pathetic-ish, love struck jesper in most of my fics because he is a flirt with no bite and wylan is much more healthy-confident and straightforward imo

MY COMMENTERS ARE THE SWEETEST MOTHERFUCKERS, IT'S KINDA NOT OKAY. The amount of times I've been hit with a long comment (that doesn't even fit my phone screen sometimes!!) is too many to count and I CANNOT BELIEVE I made it this far to say that. I'm so so grateful to everyone who takes the time to comment.

I recently got a chonker from I_Put_Myself_Back_In_The_Narrative on ch6 detailing specifically how I write Ed's emotional moments and I—I teared up, okay. I put SO MUCH work into Ed's crying moments because fmab canon dictates it's illegal for him to cry or whatever, and that makes it hard to decide if he's in-character during these moments! (Thank god for 03 tho.) I've got a regular named Keyboard too that always leaves such long and sweet comments and I look forward to their comments specifically.

Also not for Crown but APPLE, I got so many genuinely detailed comments analyzing my writing choices?? And it tickles me so so much. I fucking LOVE when ppl "overanalyze" my shit, I DO THAT SHIT ALL THE TIME AND IT'S A HUGE COMPLIMENT TO RECEIVE IT BACK.

One (1) long comment can and will make my entire day, and I've been blessed to experience this several times.

🏷 - is there a tag you like to search for when looking for fanfics to read?

I'm maybe exposing myself with this but. Possessive. THE VERY FIRST WORD I filter for when journeying into a new fandom/ship is "possessive". I crave possessiveness in fics like nothing else. NOTHING!!! Roleswap is a close second depending on the fandom; I didn't apply it to, say, fma, but I sure as hell did for sk8 and httyd. I search for canon divergences in general.

🦋 - which character is your favorite to write?

I mean. Do you need to ask. Do you really need to ask?

Yeah, it's Ed LMAO. I'll admit it's not as obv in my writing as in my art, considering I much more often write about Ed through other characters' lenses—but that's just my preferred style. I enjoy exploring how characters love and perceive my fav. I want my favs to be LOVED damn it!!

😎 - what fics do you prefer on a scale of canon compliant to wildly original?

Kinda answered this earlier but yeah I def prefer canon divergence. I very rarely touch canon compliant stuff (and actively exclude the tag sometimes), but I also don't swerve toward stuff like modern aus. It really depends for "wildly original"? I won't touch modern/coffee shop/no powers aus with a ten foot pool (I'm very particular if you DO sell me on one), but more vibe-y settings? Like old-timey, fantasy, magic, etc... That stuff I gobble up.

🎨 - if someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?

EXCELLENT QUESTION. So excellent, I got it twice, in fact, so I'm splitting my answer. I'd love to receive fanart for any of my fics, frankly (even my other fandom stuff!!), but rn Crown is what I covet fanart for. It's literally "what if edling was endgame in the anime", so ofc I have visions of how Big Scenes would look in the hypothetical anime!! Ofc!!

I've got silly and serious visions. My latest fancy is serious and it's literally anything from ch6. ESPECIALLY the ravine scene where Ed gets his oh and the moonlight spills onto him and Greed and it's so scenic and pretty and Ed's blushing and wide-eyed—

Other serious visions include edling's first date in ch1, the hospital scene from ch2, Ling proposing to asking Ed to stay in ch3, Ed watching Ling get possessed in ch4 (I HAVE A VISION OKAY. THE WAY THE RED "LIGHTNING" REFLECTS IN ED'S WIDE, HORRIFIED EYES AND AND), and edgreed's campfire talk in ch5! Also that one scene from Ed's pov that I mentioned in the notes of ch6 where he cries into Ling's bloody message.

20 Questions for Fic Writers

Nobody tagged me in this (because I never get tagged in anything) but I thought it would be interesting to do. I saw this circulating in the Clone Wars fandom, but I know it's in other places as well.

1.How many works do you have on AO3? Only 9, but I have hundreds of WIPs on my hard-drive, most of which are like one tiny passage or a summary that will never go anywhere. My brain is an ideas factory and it cannot be stopped.

2.What’s your total AO3 word count? As of January 2024, it’s 176,227 in total, but 122,240 of that is across two works: - The Greenleaf and the Son of the Forest (83414 words) - In Our Brothers We Trust (38826 words)

3.What fandoms do you write? Currently, Star Wars (Clone Wars/Bad Batch era) and Hobbit/LotR, though I used to write a lot of Kylux stuff (Star Wars Sequels), but the WIPs span everything from Cats to The Witcher to Pirates to Narnia. Told you, the ideas factory never stops.

4.What are your top five fics by kudos? - Frost-Bitten – 171 - Alphabetically, I love you – 167 - Force Fed – 137 - Scars and All – 89 - Ruby Red and Jet Black – 75 Which means that my two current projects (Greenleaf and IOBWT) don’t make this list, because they have 37 and 54 kudos respectively. It’s all my old Kylux stuff that gets the top spots, but I do approve of the top score. Frost-Bitten is one of my faves.

5.Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I usually respond to the first few comments on any given fic, because I’m just so excited that somebody read it and it resonated enough for them to write me a message. I do save all the AO3 notification emails though and I read through them sometimes when my writing is driving me nuts.

6.What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I don’t actually write angst all that much. I’ve had angsty chapter endings sometimes, but it’s never that bad and it usually gets resolved.

7.What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? They’re all pretty happy, what can I say? I’m a sap and I like a nice wrapped-up story with a happy ending. The ending of Frost-Bitten is probably my favourite though.

And despite the chill of the Knight of Winter’s lips on his, the Lord of Autumn melts…

8.Do you get hate on fics? Not to my knowledge. I’m aware that most of what I write is headcanon that got away from me though, so it’s not most people’s cup of tea.

9.Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Nope. Kissing and cuddles is as close as we get, maybe a bit of non-sexual BDSM is it’s needed.

10.Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest crossover you’ve ever written? I was on t’internet when the whole Tangled/HTTYD/Brave/RotG crossover was a thing. Some very pretty art out there, let me tell you. And I do have what would have become a giant AtLA AU in that, but I’ve never done anything with it beyond a few passages.

11.Have you ever had a fic stolen? Sometimes when I was in high school, or just finished, there was a site that copied a lot of fics from FF.net, under the same usernames and everything, but I think the site was taken down? Not sure, either it way it was only old Cats fic on mine so…

12.Have you ever had a fic translated? No. I could probably do it in German or Spanish, it would just take me forever.

13.Have you ever co-written  fic before? Who would want to play in my silly little sandpit? Only me, I tell you.

14.What’s your all-time favourite ship? I was reading a lot of Malec stuff at one point, or Geraskier, and a lot of SamBucky/WinterFalcon just after Falcon and the Winter Soldier came out. And Kylux, way back when. I don’t really have a favourite ship though, just a lot of ones I like and will happily read.

15.What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I’m not going to say Greenleaf, because I will make myself finish it. The wider universe that Greenleaf exists in though, I probably won’t ever truly be done with (White Knife, Silver Flame). I’m like Tolkien in that respect.

16.What are your writing strengths? Characterisation and getting into characters’ heads. I write lots of little dialogue pieces and odd passages for how characters interact, most of which never see the light of day, they are just writing exercises. I also try to never delete anything, if a passage isn’t working out how I want it to, I just move it to its own document and keep it as a reference. Sometimes it’s an excellent bit of writing, it just needs to go somewhere else.

17.What are your writing weaknesses? I find it really hard to write in one fandom if I’m watching the content for something else. I can’t write Star Wars if I’m watching LotR for example. Music and soundtracks are usually okay though, just no music with words or I get distracted.

18.Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I do it in both of my current projects, but I always provide a translation at the end of the chapter. If it’s little things like petnames, I think it’s fine and it can add a sense of authenticity to the world. You can do a larger passage in another language, but it can be jarring to the reader if it’s not worked into the story in the right way.

19.First fandom you wrote for? Cats, the musical and original movie, not that 2019 monstrosity. We don’t talk about that.

20.Favourite fic you’ve ever written? I’m actually really enjoying writing IOBWT, which is my Domino Survives AU. It’s fun getting to explore what Hevy and Cutup and Droidbait might have been like if they survived past Rishi, the same as Fives and Echo.

Greenleaf is also fun to write in parts, because I’ve loved Tolkien’s world since I was like ten. But it’s a battle getting the chapters out at the moment, just because of how the story’s structured.

Favourite thing I’ve ever written? Frost-Bitten, which is a Kylux Fantasy Seasonal AU, where Hux belongs to Autumn and Kylo belongs to Winter. It’s very cute and fluffy and it’s one of only a few pieces of my earlier writing that I can read and not cringe at.

Wasn't sure if I should do another ask or just reply so I hope this isn't an inconvenience! As well as I'm sorry this took awhile to reply to! This is my second attempt as I tried to save the draft and it crashed so I'm shortening this! I also wanted to do research on the proper words to convey the image in my brain and also make sure I had my lore somewhat cohesive. (I SUCK at explaining things so I'm sorry if nothing makes a lick of sense)

So, with the httyd franchise once again chokeholding me, as well as me actually interacting with the fandom + reading fics this time around, I've gotten a little attached. And by attached I mean obsessed; especially with Vigcup after copious hours of re-watching RTTE after so many years. And after being re-devastated over Viggo's death as well as wishing for more moments between the two (you can't just give us a CRUMB of what could've been with Triple Cross and then snatch it away from us. I've never been so heartbroken over a what if 😭).

So I strung up a few of my favorite tropes together to make an amalgamation of a story. It's basically consistent of these AU's:

{5} Soulmate AU's (Tattoos, shared pain, whatever you write on your skin/wrist appears on your soulmates, Teleport to your sm's location when you turn a certain age (I'm thinking 20?? Only because of the tl I have set but still ironing out the details), and what I've nicknamed as Soul songs [Unique song only heard by you and your soulmate]

To start, I should introduce the characters/history outside of the actual httyd cast/timeline. Before the birth of the gods, their was a primordial shape-shifting dragon named Khryneris (Crin-heir-is) that existed in Ginnungagap (the void) and protected Yggdrasil. She watched the cosmos come to life and settled with keeping Niðhöggr (the dragon that gnaws on the roots of Yggdrasil) at bay. (She originally was going to be his sister that he made from his own scale that would guard/protect the tree.) I'm not sure WHAT exactly happens but she somehow gets trapped/cursed to Midgard (Probably Loki's fault). She can't escape as her attempts would be so powerful they'd destroy Midgard. To compensate, the gods take a twig from Yggdrasil and plant it on the biggest island of a chain of archipelagos, where they grow it to become an extension branch of the world tree ON Midgard; calling her domain the Amaranthine Isles. To keep it hidden from the mortals, they hide the islands/archipelago in a thick veil of fog and gnarly sea stacks/rocks that form a protective atoll/barrier reef sea wall (so like dragon island x the metkayina village from avatar the way of water). She accepts this compromise but eventually gets lonely, and after studying the other dragons (mostly skrills), she creates the Night Fury's from her scales; thus also creating the ancestral home of Night Fury's. At some point in time, she makes contact with mortals who worship her as well as the Fury's. They become their guardins as well as assasins/spys. Upon learning the Night Fury's are getting hunted to extinction, mostly by Grimmel, she tried to intervene but is stopped by Odin. He promises her that Grimmel will fall by her claw but not yet and to let his fate play out. Furious but forbidden to intervene she and her followers decide to split and hide away. The mortals gradually disappearing and turning into a tribe called the Misty Bows, whose way of life is a complete opposite to their assasin roots to throw off any suspicion and hiding away in the frigid tundra. The rest of the Fury's, that wish to at least, take to retreating back to the Amaranthine Isles whilst those that'd rather stay, sought out safe nest in the world. And so years pass and the secrets of a possible future buried. But Khryneris decides to take the form of a mortal trader woman and travels around the barbaric archipelago to still gather information about the world. She happens upon Berk and discovers Hiccup.

To keep it short, she is fascinated by this tiny child who's very soul screams wild untamed dragon. He becomes her lil dragon and she visits Berk often to keep him company whilst also taking care of his emotional and physical health. She is NOT impressed with the way the tribe treats him, at all. She wants to intervene more but the gods once again stop her. Telling her of Hiccup's fate and what shall occur. She doesn't trust it and keeps a close eye on him. The events of the first movie take place a year or 2 before they should occur. With Hiccup shooting down and befriending toothless early whilst also learning dragonese, befriending/learning about dragons, and overall taking a look at how bad Hiccup's life is w/ the tribe. Eventually Khryneris finds evidence of their friendship and helps to keep it a secret. It all comes to head one night when an event leads to Hiccup being not only being disowned but exiled, even with Khryneris having been their to give them a warning it all bust seals Berks fate. Now seen as an enemy, a tribesmen takes their disgust out on Hiccup and manage to slice him across the face with an axe. They go in to kill him when Khryneris steps in and threatens to eviscerate the next person that tries to harm him. She takes Hiccup away from Berk, leaving them with a chilling promise. She reveals what she truly is to Hiccup after cleaning his wounds and reassuring him about toothless. Sfter she's sure he's asleep, she goes back to Berk to retrieve toothless. She brings him to her ship where once hiccup is awake, she discusses taking them to her home. They agree and both find their while world turned upside down. Toothless with finding other Night Fury's and Hiccup with being apart of a whole new world only known by a few. She trains hiccup as well as helps him with materials so he can invent. Eventually, she gifts him a set of wings and a tail, as she sees him as one of her children.

Hiccup and Toothless become known as the Archipelago Wraith as they rescue and save dragons around and beyond the archipelago. He still loses his leg, but due to humans this time, which furthers his dislike/distrust of humans. And as years pass, Hiccup eventually meets/ends up in a war with Viggo Grimborn, and that's where the true fun begins.

Meanwhile Berk and the rest of the Archipelago are suffering from increased dragon raids as well as sickness, war, and for Berk specifically, some very unfriendly creatures of supernatural origin. In desperation, Berk as and employs the help of the dragon hunters. Viggo helps hunt and capture the dragon's but also tries to learn more about his ever elusive Wraith. The Wraith intrigues him and he wants to this game between them.

Eventually, Hiccup's (possibly) 20th birthday nears and after a great deal of debating, wishes to meet his soulmate. Khryneris insist to have it done inside her domain so she can monitor things, especially if they go downhill. Cue Viggo waking up in a room he's never seen before and the very being he's wanted a closer look at, stating him down from a cross beam. It's all fine and dandy tho! (No its not Hiccup is freaking out-) But thats okay because before anything can truly happen, he has to meet mom. Cue meeting the parent (that's your mother!?) and Viggo getting to spend 2 weeks of his life with not only his soulmate but as well as learn about such elusive dragons and the cosmic horror that watches over them. As a bonus, he also gets temporary wings + tail :D (Adorable learning how to fly montage)

From there I'm still figuring things out exactly but I'm still going to have the battle with the Red Death. Viggo still learns to appreciate + respect dragons and gets his skrill o top of becoming a dragon rider. As well as the events of HTTYD 2 and 3. But Httyd 3 is gonna be different because I am disappointed at that movie and I need to rewrite it. Httyd 2 will be relatively the same but going to do a big battle between Drago, Berk + Hiccup/Toothless and Viggo, Valka and her dragons, as well as maybe a few other tribes joining in. With HTTYD 3, again, mostly the same plot but with twist and new problems added to the equation. Specifically, venomcup because it's just to good of a concept to pass up. Hiccup SUFFERS and the angst is supreme because angst is my forte.

But that's the main points that I've mostly got down (without reckoning them over and over again because to many ideas). I hope it wasn't to much!
