What fandoms do you write in? Good Omens! Only Good Omens, Forever Good Omens.

How many words have you published in 2024? Ok, including some chapters for an upcoming [redcated] collab, I'm estimating 150k that I actually wrote. Which....isn't much in this incredibly talented fandom BUT was a lot for me.

What is your greatest achievement this year? Getting out there and collaborating!! I talked to artists (y'all are magical and terrifying), I joined the [redacted] project and wrote amazing angst with @gaiaseyes451, @sixbynine-da, @kneelbeforeyourdogbabylon, @groovynightstrawberry, and MxThirteen, PLUS more artists, @apocalyptic-scenes & babyrubysoho.

And then kept on writing with a lot of those folks to create some amazing crack - and Lucicrow?

My point is, once you start collaborating, you have no idea where it will take you!

What are your top three fics you’ve written this year? Mirrors (E, WIP but almost finished): Angsty reverse omens AU, but there's a happy ending I PROMISE. With amazing art from @daneecastle and @c0smicdisaster.

Cracked Pepper (E): Utterly absurd birthday crack for @kneelbeforeyourdogbabylon. I'm still tickled that I somehow wrote this.

Have We Been Here Before? (E): A one-shot love letter to the fandom (also podfic from the amazing @nosferatini )

What was your biggest pit of despair moment? Hmmm, I got kind of lost in my subplots in the middle of After Heaven. But it worked out and I actually love the ending.

I regularly despair that I will never have enough time to write - or to write as well as I want.

What have you learned? I've gotten some sense of the things I'm ok at. And learning to work on adding descriptions and feelings, not just plot.

I’ve actually spent the last couple days making a simplified compilation of Ashe’s works, to make it easier for new readers to visualize them.

It’s the reason why it has taken me some time to answer this haha.

As for my favourite fic…. That’s such an insanely hard question to answer T_T

I’ll put the compilation & my thoughts under the cut to minimize dashboard noise.

(Disclaimer: i’m not a writer so some of the terms I use are from my loose understanding of literature!)

As for the fav fic stuff:

I don’t think I can have a hard singular favourite of Ashe’s fics, because they’re all different and encompass different themes and vibes and ideas, and fuck man they’re just so good. Ashe has a masters degree in writing and it SHOWS, but also just her writing style & way of developing stories.. it’s so captivating, rich and thoughtful. I love analyzing their work & being rewarded with the amount of detail and effort that is put into it.

Here’s a couple that fucked me up particularly good though, if you must know:

LDR AU | Meet Me on the Rink | And Take Off Your Mask | Simulacrum | Language Barrier

At least two of these majorly impacted my life & mean a whole lot to me because of the themes, topics and characterization in them.

I think one of my favourite things about Ashe’s works is how visceral and raw and real they feel while you read ‘em. There’s a real strong focus on the plot, which makes for a fantastic build up throughout the story. There’s also emphasis on characterization, and by the gods it’s deliciously crafted. The direct and indirect ways in which Ashe portrays the personalities, flaws and motivations of characters… MAN.

A lot of people read fics for a quick hit of fluff or angst, so plot-heavy, meaty fics with a lot of undertones and somewhat unconventional themes can be very different from typical expectations.

Still, I stand by the fact that it’s exactly because of this that Ashe’s work is so refreshing and fascinating to read through, and I strongly encourage everyone to give it a try, especially if you like Off the Hook.

She also has a lot of oneshots and shorter stories that I listed above, if longer ones feel daunting. They’re just as good!!

I’m really grateful that they share all of this work online; creating entails a lot of work, whether it be art, writing, cosplay, etc.

Posting it for free on top of that??? I think we need to appreciate our fic writers more, honestly. They’re a huge pillar in fandom spaces that often goes unnoticed.

Disco Inferno by DeusExMachina - Set before Angel signed a contract with Val. Husk takes him in and helps Angel go overlord

Someone You Can Bet On by Shigariope - Major fluff alert! Angel goes to Husk's casino to ask Husk to help him get out of his contract with Val. Husk does, in the form of a (fake) marriage.

call me when you want, call me when you need by Spades - Husk wins a night with Angel, rather than his soul. Super sweet fic and the pining on Husk's part is strong.

Lucky Bastard by PoppyFieldWrites - Angel meets a hottie bartender while at the casino with Val. Turns out that bartender is none other than the gambling overlord himself

The House Edge by vixensheart - while out working the streets, Angel gets picked up by a wealthy looking individual. Only thing is though, this guy doesnt wanna bang, just wants Angel to rest and get an injury looked at.

Human AUs

At the End of Extinction by The_Bad_Samaritan - zombie apocalypse au, yep you heard that right. Husk finds a five-year-old Charlie in a zombie infested wasteland and with the help of solo traveler Angel, they go on a cross-country road trip to reunite her with her parents. This fic will keep you on your toes, trust me.

So Much (For) Stardust by Kima - War vet Husk is big pissed that he has to bartend at a club that Alastor owns, especially when one of the drag performers there pisses him off to no end, it also doesnt help that he has an obnoxious next door neighbor that always has loud sex. Surely those two things aren't related in any way.

glitter & bows by angelsfizz - Angel works at Claires at the mall and a lost kid wanders through, then when her dad comes to retrieve her, Angel has a massive gay panic because hubba hubba this guy's hot.

Could be Canon

When We Meet Again by rainbowpandas and RockyRants - we all knew this was coming. how could I leave out this fandom classic? if you haven't already read this masterpiece, Angel and Husk slowly regain their memories of when they were alive. Turns out they knew each other and were lovers. Mixes in flashbacks of their pasts with the story and will for sure leave an impact on you.

soft & tender by Spades - sweet and sensual oneshot of the two of them after they get together. Domestic, tooth-rotting, show-stopping.

Changing Channels by Onlymostlydead - a video of Angel's comes on during channel surfing in the lobby, the thing is though, he has no memory of filming it. Hurt/comfort with protective Chaggie and Husk. Read the tags for this one very carefully.

Bottom shelf erotica - this au was made by @/cyberrat and they let me write a fic for it. Husk is a fluffer at Val's studio and Angel is absolutely smitten for him.

little pink lies - Husk hits his head and gets temporary amnesia. Angel thinks it would be hilarious to prank him by saying that they are married.

Ulterior Motives (tell me the truth) - you can probably guess what the inspo was from the title alone. Husk hears a snippet of a song that he can't quite find the origin of. Just his luck that its from a porno starring nonother than the hotel's most obnoxious resident.

4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw

I already answered this here, but I'll give you another. Lum/ine, Ae/ther, Ei, Xi/ao, Wan/derer and any of my other faves from any Mi/hoyo game that I play, because goddamn! Just look at their outfits! Back when I was still drawing fanarts for Gen/shin, I will die every time just from drawing the details of their clothing. But I was too down horrendous for Lu/mine to just give up on drawing her. So when I switched to drawing Sp/yFam fanarts right after, my art braincells are just "Thank God, this evil Gen/shin obsession has been defeated".

Not gonna lie, with them releasing Oro/ron and Sun/day so close to each other, I'm starting to feel the urge to draw them again...wtf djfbjsd Anyway, if anyone drawing Gen/shin fanart (specifically) comes across this by any chance, here's a lifesaver reference site that I used for their outfits. It made the experience slightly less painful.

14. Any favorite motifs

Motifs where there are opposites of light/darkness and sun/moon, but not exactly presented in a black/white way where you know from a glance which is the absolute good and which is the absolute evil. It's more of like ying yang, where there's "complementary and at the same time opposing forces" or that "in kindness, there's evil; in evil, there's kindness". I believe the gray blur where each of these sides converge is the best place ever to explore in fiction.

3. What ideas come from when you were little

The concept itself of making a comic! When I was around...I guess around 4th to 5th grade? Around ten years old or less? I remember drawing this comic of an original story I had back then. I think the setting is something like a historical drama in Ko/rea.

That's because even in the late 2000's and early 2010s, kd/ramas were popping off so hard in PH, almost every adult I knew were watching them. It would always play in the background whenever I'm doing homework or when my mother is tutoring me. The titles I can remember were Je/wel in the Pa/lace and Queen Se/ondok (<-OK I GOTTA CONFESS THIS ONE CHANGED MY BRAIN CHEMISTRY).

Anyway, my younger self got so into this original comic story, I probably ended up drawing up to like half a ream of papers? sdjfbjshvfshd It's all traditional drawings with short bond papers with just a shitty ballpoint black pen. I was ten years old(?), so it definitely looked not so good. It's a secret project so I'm the only one who knows about it and I also hid it under our cabinet like it's some lemon fanfic hahaha (it's more action, tragedy with a bit of romance) I think it's because of that bit of romance that I hid it out of embarrassment, also the papers were actually supposed to be for when we need to print something for school projects, so I think I thought I was gonna get scolded for "wasting" them. I'm not about risk myself getting whooped with either a slipper, belt or broom bro 💀💀💀

I think what happened after that is for when your art perception improves but ur art skills can't catch-up, so I kind of had an art block and wasn't satisfied with it anymore. Then I ripped the pages and threw the entire thing away dsjvfhdsfvshdf 🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿 I wish I didn't 🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿 I have no start point to compare my current art with anymore and I can't even remember the story or the OCs that I had in there anymore.

Anyway, I'm making up for it now by making comics seriously fr fr and I won't be deleting it even if a ten-wheeler art block truck hits me and runs me over.

This question made me look through the oldest fandom account I can remember, for possible old arts and it's actually so funny/embarrassing how passive-aggressive 14 year old me is. Someone commented "I don't like this ship! This character is only mine!" on a rarepair ship fanart I showed to the group and 14-year old me replied "I understand your feelings, but you're not his only fan so keep that to yourself next time ^_^" ajvfsghdcghsdcds other interactions are also full of haterism energy it makes me go GHURL STOP!!! 😭😭😭😭 THAT'S SO MEAN!!! YOU FUCKING BET!!!! I love having the opportunity to list my favorites for anything, though I'm also incredibly picky about fanfics, so I don't actually know (until I start scrolling my bookmarks and listing them) if I'll reach a whole 10 favorites!! But I might! (Note: these are in no particular order)

What I Want From You is Sweet by VampireFaun (Heaven Official's Blessing) [And basically every other work that she's written! But some of my other top favorites of hers are The Thing That Was Not His Highness and Beast With Two Backs]: When I can't get a fanfic out of my head, I usually end up drawing an illustration based on it, if I'm bold enough to risk depicting an author's precious words (rare). This is my MOST re-read fic and I won't ever stop. It doesn't help that VampireFaun/Deer is a WONDERFUL PERSON and I love her personality so much. She's an incredible writer!

Tenfold by dgalerab (Bungou Stray Dogs) : Baby's first fic! This was one of the writings that immediately roped me into the fanfic world. When I first was into it, I was under the impression that everyone just went there to write half-assed explorations of sex between characters, and that wasn't so appealing to me. When I discovered that some people can write entire 25-chapter PLOTS with the level of literacy that matches what I hoped to read??? I was hooked. Obviously you can see in this list that I have strong devotion to a handful of fic writers and my favorites are just the top best fics that I return to of their writing. If I find a great writer, I subscribe to them and go on a rampage of consumption through their list of fics, my fandom or not! Please consider doing the same for those authors that I mention like that!! You'll find so much gold. Everything by dgalerab is good in some way, I have almost all of their fics bookmarked. :') My only complaint about this particular story was that HOLY FUCK THE AUTHOR CUT SO MANY SCENES WAY TOO SHORT LMAO. Please let me have a full comfort scene for more than two paragraphs T_T I worked so hard for it. I cried so much. ANYWAY, STILL A HUGE INSPIRATION FOR WHAT I WENT ON TO WRITE!

What You Have Tamed by Parsnipit (Heaven Official's Blessing)

Love is Hard, Life Sucks by gev_ao3 (Bungou Stray Dogs) : A painful inspection of the nuances of domestic abuse. This one rang true to reality so much that I don't think I can re-read it without having a depressive episode. It's not finished, but it's Fyozai, and you know how I feel about that. Also side-plot SKK! I usually can't stand AUs, but this one fits the situations very well. It's the type of fic that only someone who knows a little too much about how abuse works on a victim can write.

Careful Fear and Dead Devotion by intimatopia (Trigun Stampede) : Yet another fic that I couldn't help but draw for! And intimatopia was kind enough to link it in his fic summary T_T - A super angsty sadomasochistic fic about Vash needing pain and Wolfwood needing to give it. If I don't list any other fics by him on here, it's because I'm such a huge enjoyer of his writing (one of my favorite fic authors), so nearly all of them that don't hit on personal triggers are in my favorites category. He's a master at pinning down the PERFECT depictions of characters that make them feel as canon as possible while also becoming more tangible and real. The ZhongXiao, AyaThoma and Kaeluc fics are incredible. Read them all! However, I will mention that one of his fics that first stuck with me was his Kaeluc AU Northbound & Reaching ! Carys has done a lot of BSD fics too, of which a few stick out to me like They Say You Gotta Fake It and that one Soul Eater AU he did where Dazai was a knife in Chuuya's drawer who gained a body. I DON'T KNOW WHERE IT WENT CUZ I CAN'T FIND IT TO LINK YOU BUT GO LOOK THROUGH ALL HIS FICS FOR IT. IT'S REALLY UNIQUE.

Top 5 works, I guess?? As I mentioned several times while gushing, three of these account for entire lists of the author's works that you should enjoy if we share the same taste! VampireFaun, dgalerab, and intimatopia are my top fic authors, and I've read everything they've posted as long as it didn't contain anything personally triggering - and have learned about new fandoms even! Also, Alaruya didn't make it on this list, but they have a Fyozai fic that really inspired me with its imagery and language. I link it in my Sinner fanfic if you're interested!

I have quite a few other random fics I enjoy, but most were from a Heaven Official's Blessing craze recently and then BSD works that inspired me in some way, but they're not very unique or long, so I felt like this was the best collection to list. Most any fic that explores Dazai struggling with self-harm or neediness or asexuality has my attention. It just has to be written well!

AS FAR AS MY NAME - YOU'RE THE FIRST TO ASK THAT QUESTION! I'm a big fan of...how to explain...slightly dehumanizing titles?? Something that isn't really a name, but a description of me in some way. Something that makes me feel mysterious and yet also gives everyone who reads it an idea of the type of works I'm creating. Of course, my main personality trait is being sadistic, and I love the word sadist, and I love putting THE in front of literally any title because I DON'T KNOW LMAO...I'm THE ONE. That kinda thing. I'M THE GUY!! YEAH I'M THE BLOODY SADIST GUY! THAT ONE! I also love smashing words together, so I was like, I can't just be THE sadist....what else do I like....and that's about it. If I name myself I tend to have trouble ever using anything else in reference to me, so Sadist has stuck from the very beginning. It's going to be very hard to part with that name once I publish a novel and have to use a first and last name...

Fav fnaf songs?

It's kinda hard to say, so I'll pick a favorite song from each game (not including any of the living tombstones songs. They are all my favorite. I just feel that's a bit predictable. These also count as recommendations. Check 'em out if you want or if you haven't heard them yet.)

FNAF 1

Fnaf 1 was kinda a difficult choice (once I cut the fnaf song by the living tombstone as an option), my choice was torn between Welcome to Freddy's and this song.

I remembered loving this song when I was young, more specifically the Bonnie version of this, but this one is still good. It's such a staple of the early days of the Fandom, when the lore was simple and the phone guy is the purple guy, was the big theory of the time.

This song does a good job at telling the missing kids story, showing their pain of being trapped in these suits and time passing by as they remain eternal. The inclusions of sounds from in game is also a great touch.

I highly recommend checking out this guys other fnaf songs like Sythetic Agony and Foxys tale, both also very phenomenal songs.

FNAF 2

This one was also close since Fnaf 2 has so many banging fan songs. This one won for me because it's just so fricking timeless. It's such a catchy song, and it's the best kinda ear worm.

The one tied with this one was Behind The Mask, Mechanical instinct won out since this one just has more of a fast-paced, multiple animatronics hunting you down kinda vibe.

It was so hard to choose because fnaf 2 definitely had the most consistent amount of banging fan songs, next to Fnaf 4 and SL.

FNAF 3

This one was kinda hard because fnaf 3 also has quite a few banging songs, but this one just stuck with me in a way that the others haven't been able to do.

Maybe it's the general vibe. Maybe it's the fact it's from purple guy Willie's perspective, I don't know. I do like the way this song characterizes William. It gives off a different vibe than other songs about him. Other songs either do the whole 'I'm an evil man in a bunny suit, mwah haha' or 'wah wah my kids are dead' kinda predictable.

It was either this or Break My mind. This one won because it also just hits differently. Also, when I was young, it was always hard to find on YouTube. So it means a lot to me.

I love the perspective and tone of this song. It's kinda like sweet dreams by Aviator mixed with I got no time, and I love it. The singing is lovely and the ending is impactful, if you've never listened to this one please give it a listen your ears will thank me, I hope.

This does such a wonderful job at conveying the funtimes experience in the facility and the rage they feel being in this repetive cycle of pain and suffering. As well as the desire to be free and having Ennard being what was needed to complete it.

NOT LABYRINTH⁉️, yeah, yeah, I could have picked that song as iconic as it is. It's an obvious choice, and I would have picked it... if this one didn't exist. This one just perfectly visualizes FNAF 6. Every part of it and I love it. Also The Stupendium is just good, can you blame me.

All the parts are wonderful and well put together, and it's just such a wonderful song, and the chorus is a banger I can't help but dance to it

This one, RAAAA BEST THING. while there are not a lot of UCN songs, this is the one. Oh one you should not have killed, my child, my baby, my son, my daughter, my- what ever the fuck you are. This song just slaps so hard.

also, this always just stook out to me. I also like Cassidy, so that could play a part in me liking this song. But it's just so good, and nightcove has a lot of other good songs. Check 'em out if you haven't.

This song is just fire, I was tempted to pick Freaks by RocketGaming, but that songs chorus can linger a bit too long. This song, though, is the ear worm that just keeps on wiggling.

This one I really can't describe, so you're just gonna have to listen to it yourself, and just understand why I like it by listening.

Vanny, my beloved. While I really hate Security Breach as a game (played for myself, hated it), that's a whole other can of worms not related to this post.

This song is a wonderful piece of art, I love the vibe. the way it portrays vanny is wonderful, having the fucked up killer part on the surface and the 'GOD HELP ME THERE IS A FURRY CONTROLLING MY THOUGHTS' it's wonderful.

I love this song so much, like man. It's got such an addictive chorus, and the rap parts with the mimic are so well written, and all the lines feel so cleverly done.

This post will get way too long if I answer all your questions, so here's a post where I talk about some of my fav HxH moments (4/5 of which are KilluGon related), and here's my Headcanons tag to see some of the headcanons I've posted or approved of previously. I'm sure I'll revisit similar questions to these over time as well.

I haven't had anyone ask about ships that remind me of KilluGon though, and it's a fun question to answer! I think KilluGon is very unique, so these might not be incredibly similar, but I'm focusing on ships that give me a similar feeling or have commonalities that I think are worth mentioning. I enjoy all of these ships to varying degrees!

I'm going to stay away from ships from big, currently popular shounen series that people typically bring up in comparison with HxH (JJK, HeroAca, etc.), both because the ships I've come across in those don't actually remind me of KilluGon very deeply, and also because it's more fun to recommend ships/series people may not have heard of already!

Reki Kyan and Langa Hasegawa (Sk8 the Infinity)

I'm all but certain these two were based off Gon and Killua in part--the personalities of the two and dynamic between them feels fairly similar, and the antagonist of the series, Adam, also strongly feels like he's based off of Hisoka. The series itself is less serious/dark than HxH so the intensity isn't the same, but they definitely have a similar strong friendship basis and mutual adoration to Gon and Killua.

Suletta Mercury and Miorine Rembran (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury)

Suletta is straightforward, somewhat oblivious, and grew up isolated from others (a bit like Gon), and Miorine is confident, tsundere, and trying to escape the influence of her rich and powerful family (a bit like Killua), and the two hit it off quickly and find joy and inspiration to keep going in each other. The degree to which they influence, support, and adore each other feels familiar. There are some later developments (spoilers) that remind me of Gon and Killua as well.

Yuki Sanada and Haru (Tsuritama)

Yuki, who has severe anxiety, ends up having his life transformed when the strange and overly friendly Haru appears suddenly. There's a real cuteness, joyfulness, and closeness between them that reminds me of Gon and Killua, and the way they help each other understand the world differently and change each others' perspectives as well.

Maru and Kiruko (Tengoku Daimakyou / Heavenly Delusion)

I can't say too much about this ship because I don't want to spoil any surprises, but let's just say in at least one major way it's not how it appears. Maru (the blond one) shares several commonalities with Killua, though he's at least a bit more straightforward in his emotions like Gon; while Kiruko is somewhat more tsundere initially (due to understandable past reasons). Their bond reminds me of Gon and Killua in that they travel all around together and develop a very close friendship and devotion to one another, and while one is more openly affectionate the other holds back more initially.

(This series contains some mature content, including a depiction of sexual assault, so please be careful when checking it out, but it's fantastic!)

Shindou Hikaru and Touya Akira (Hikaru no Go)

These two are rivals and obviously Gon and Killua are not, but at the same time there's a certain intensity and degree of being obsessed with each other than reminds me of KilluGon, as well as things like their bickering and the degree to which the series revolves around their connection. It's been a long time since I read the manga so I admittedly can't remember all the details, but I feel like it's maybe a few steps closer to Gon and Killua than, say, Hinata and Kageyama from Haikyuu (though that's also a great rivals -> friends ship that has some commonalities with KilluGon). It has a strong canon basis and I remember really enjoying how their bond develops!

Riko and Reg (Made in Abyss)

Riko is an adventurous, plucky girl who goes on a dangerous journey to find her missing parent, while Reg the robot boy supports her on their adventure (and semi-secretly adores her). Reg is also voiced by Mariya Ise, Killua's seiyuu, so it's hard not make the comparison! The personalities of the two are definitely similar and their bond feels familiar.

(Made in Abyss looks cute but it contains a great deal of upsetting/potentially triggering content, please be careful if you decide to watch or read it! It's amazing, but definitely not a series that will appeal to everyone.)

I feel like I've already said this a zillion times, but figuring out how to tell a story and show characters' personalities within the limits of the format (email chains) was a challenge I enjoyed + I think it turned out well

What Work Took You Longest To Write: Two of the three multi-chapter fics I started this year remain unfinished, so probably those. I was so sure I was going to finish one of them before Halloween...........

How Many WIPS do you have for next year: Besides the two fics from question 8, I've got 3 stories I've started drafting and no guarantee that I'll finish any of them. I would also really like to try writing a story not in English next year, though I've got no ideas connected to that goal yet

Fav line or passage: Uhhhhhhhhhhh. I have various lines that amused me (to everyone's detriment, I do think I'm funny) but I feel like my favorite is from a fic that generally underwhelmed me? It was one of those situations where I couldn't get the idea out of my head without writing it, but I knew going in that I would probably not be able to write it in a way that satisfied me. But we try anyway, and maybe next year I'll revisit the concept to try it again. Anyway, here's Obi-Wan and Sabé being mean to each other post-RotS:

The representation is not being taken away from you in any way whatsoever because other fans are doing what fans do and making silly lil shipping drawings and fics, because they just personally find shipping fun and will do it to literally whoever they find interesting and want to imagine in situationships

The creator of your fav ace blorbo is not gonna go on Tumblr.com and look in the fandom tags and see a drawing of them making out with another character and go "hmm you know what. I dig that more actually. So asexuality retconned, he's gonna fuck (character) on screen now <3"

That doesn't happen. Can seeing the ship art be off-putting if you can't see the character being like that? Of course! Yes! Not denying it! But like. They're not changing anything about the character in canon. It's not some kind of problem in fandom that needs to be fixed. Shipping just happens, pretty sure it's a goddamn rule of the Internet.

But I promise you, there is still gonna be a variety of fans who would MUCH RATHER actually focus on that asexuality and/or aromanticism and discuss that, and portray it in their works. You can follow those people specifically, and join in their discussions! And who knows, it might get more people talking about it, so you'll see more of what you actually wanna see with the character.

It's just like. Idk. I get complaining but I just start feeling itchy as soon as it takes a turn into any sort of "so other people SHOULDN'T do x/y/z with blorbo actually" because okay hit the brakes, fandom is just for fun, it's a hobby, shipping is just playing around in imagination land and who cares if people do dumb or impossible things. You can dislike it, you can want to avoid it, but trying to tell other people what they can and can't do with fictional characters??

idk man. just rubs me the wrong way I guess. And in the end I'm just ALSO bitching about a fandom thing on my own blog and this ultimately doesn't matter too much to me because I DO have a job and fandom is just a hobby for me.

But I guess I just really don't see people shipping aroace characters as a big deal, because let's be real shipping has ALWAYS been about ignoring canon sexualities, this is nothing new. People will literally just smash together whoever they find hottest, or the most fascinating, or the most fucked up, or whatever tickles their fancy. And what's happening in some weird lil corner of fandom just isn't gonna have any impact on what actually happens with the canon character relationships, and it was never about that anyway, so. who cares and let people have fun. I promise when you go back to whatever media your blorbo is from, they're still gonna be their cool asexual/aromantic selves, because canon isn't fanon

Idk if the "IT boy" title existed before jm in kpop but what i know is he made that title relevant in kpop, he made it big and literally no one (as far now) in kpop can outdo him or even reflect half of his talents and success so the 4th gen fans fighting for IT boy for their fav is funny cause at their age jimin wasn't just getting hit tweets from stan twitter but he was making it so big that his name is the first thing that ppl remembers when they hear kpop, he's with his music since his first solo, he's got streams, big numbers, sales, recognition, brands behind him, style, artistry, like there wasn't single thing left that he wasn't rulling with so it's funny if they think their favs can have that title because they got some hit tweets on twitter cause where is everything else that jm got?? Where is the reflection of that? No where so either show it your fav getting those or shut up with that title. Nothing against any of the 4th gen idols by the way it's their fans I'm talking about. Wouldn’t even call th “overrated” because people are very honest about exactly what his main appeal is, and that’s physicality. He’s more over praised because people have concocted that everything else he puts out somehow matches the level of his attractiveness. Which is what I’ve said before about him getting away with a lot of mediocrity because of it. No one really reveres his music because there’s nothing special or memorable about it. Some will throw in his personality like you said but it’s 👎🏾 to me. Most armys are drawn to him because he’s aloof and it makes him desirable in their eyes, but he just comes off as real pretentious and snobby.

i go through phases with fanfiction, wavering between never reading any and then reading it consistently over a period of time. so my ao3 account only has bookmarks from the last year or so, so i’ll just include those! i did read some reeeally good fics for pairings that i was really into in the past, but i won’t include them here

as for my username, i used to have the apologist format with another character for my finsta, and i because obsessed over mu qing in my recent read through of tgcf. so i’ll defend him from the haters heh.

ok fics. no particular order.

1. Resurrection by heyholmesletsgo

one thing about me is that im going to eat up every songxiao fix-it fic i come across. this one i think follows the logic of the untamed rather than just mdzs, but i don’t think it’s a big change either way. this fic is so beautiful i thought about it for weeks afterward. it’s pretty short, but the slow, gentle pining as xiao xingchen returns to the world, the way they figure out communication, it’s all so good.

2. some new beginning by liesmyth

i got into good omens after season 2 being released this past summer, and i have to say the fics have been very hit or miss for me. the characterizations in fics are always some strange combination of characterizations of season 2 crowley and season 1 crowley and book crowley. this is post-season 1 though so this isn’t really an issue. i loved this one. i think my favorite form of aziracrow is when they’re both just idiots following the momentum of their feelings without really realizing the significance of their actions until, well, they live together hahah. highly recommend this one for that dynamic! it’s also pretty short.

3. Protagonist Rehabilitation Programme by cinnamonsnaps

this one i actually read entirely on my flight from japan last week after randomly stumbling across it. it’s an SVSSS AU where the original luo binghe transmigrates(?) into shen yuan’s world. im not usually a fan of AU fiction because i think much of the time, the events of the source material are very much what shape the personalities of the characters, but this one works for me. it’s so good at matching the tone and writing style of mxtx while being funny in its own way too.

4. hometown comforts by nyoomerr

this is another bingqiu one, post-canon, and it’s an identity reveal. it’s my ideal identity reveal fic because it’s incredibly low stakes and binghe is just curious about shen yuan’s world. no system warnings and stuff. just bonding. im a simple gal.

5. still waters by marichen

went through a beefleaf phase where i read a bunch of fics. this was the best one by far. unmatched. beefleaf, imo, is a very difficult couple to write for. there’s so much to unpack. it’s hard to make their relationship feel genuine because so much care needs to go into shi qingxuan trusting he xuan again. in this fic, it is the classic he xuan lingering around, but also we see sqx building his own life back up on his own, as well. it’s he xuan pov. so good so good.

6. Bring it back, bring it back [don’t take it away from me] by wednesdaisy

another good omens fic, also post-season 1, aziraphale pov. in this one, crowley fucks off to new zealand because he thinks his relationship with aziraphale is fantasy and it’s too painful to keep seeing him after everything they’ve been through. and aziraphale tracks him down and has to convince crowley that he does indeed want him in his life and loves him and ah, it’s really sweet.

7. the round moon by orphan_account and the hazy sun by orphan_account

this is a 2 part quanyin fic (pre-canon qyz for part 1, post-canon yin yu pov for part 2). i’m also incredibly picky about quanyin fics. this one was so beautifully done. it didn’t make quan yizhen feel overly-childish as an adult like many others do, and it made yin yu’s conflicting feelings about him so vivid and believable. highly recommend for quanyin nation out there.

8. This Is Me Trying by Piper_Emerald

another post-canon identity reveal. this one is a little more angsty than the one above but also so well done! a deep part of me needs an identity reveal to happen for them at some point hahaha…like binghe is smart ok…he suspects already.

9. some good mistakes by Lise

everyone forgive me for not really having any wangxian recs. my post-untamed fic phase was on my old ao3 account i can’t find. anyway, i remember this one being really good. wei wuxian goes missing. jiang cheng pov, teaming up with lan zhan to find wwx. post-canon untamed. personal preference but i love post-canon untamed wangxian fics the most because i just reading about all the ways they might get together.

10. Not Easily Conquered by dropdeaddream, WhatAreFears

i’m including this one because i’d be lying if it wasn’t always in my top 10. i never think about stevebucky these days and cannot stand marvel, but damn this fic holds up like 8 years later!! 3-parter, AU where steve never gets frozen but bucky is still the winter soldier. told over decades. some cringe US cold war propaganda but ignoring that…a beautiful story. if you ever carried any attachment for these two, worth the read.

the Blood Apron series by sciencefictioness is a great overwatch fic, but you really don't need to know the characters to enjoy the story! another one that'll never get added to, but i love it a lot

ghost x soap (cw for (legal) age gap)

He takes another look at the kid, now that he’s not planning on throwing him off the property. He’s got a bit of bulk, probably just recently started working out, and there’s a cocky energy coming off of him. Ghost would bet this is far from the first time he’s robbed someone with this little ruse, probably thinks he’s the smartest burglar in town. Too bad he chose the wrong man to try and trick this time.

Ghost straightens from the doorway, rolling back his shoulders and standing tall. The kid isn’t short by any means, but compared to Simon he’s practically little. Odds are he’s still got some growing to do, but for now Simon gets to enjoy the way he can loom over the teenager.

“No one ever taught you to respect your elders, boy?”

Oh, the kid doesn’t like that one. If he were a dog, his hackles would be fully raised, but he’s left settling for curling his lip back in a snarl. “You think just cause you’re old I have to respect you?”

“I think you’ll respect me because you’re on my property. That and I don’t think you’ll like what happens if you keep the attitude up.”

The kid flushes, either from rage or the innuendo. “Who the fuck do you think you are? You think just because we’re out here alone you can say whatever you want to me?”

“Of course not. We’re out here all alone, which means I can do whatever I want to you. And I will, if you don’t get off my property.”

The kid looks him up and down, then visibly steels himself. Ghost bites back a smirk. He’s not used to being underestimated, but he finds he doesn’t mind when it means getting to see the kid play at being his equal.

“What do you think you’ll do if I don’t go?”

Oh, Ghost can’t wait to beat the attitude out of the little brat.

He doesn’t let the kid see how much the rudeness is getting to him, intentionally keeping his face flat and unimpressed. “What’s your name, kid?”

That permanent scowl doesn’t shift, even as a flash of confusion crosses his face. “...John.”

Ghost nods. “Alright, Johnny, if you don’t get off my property, I’ll take you over my knee and teach you what your daddy should’ve.”

It’s nearly impossible to keep from grinning when Johnny’s mouth pops open in surprise, the flush creeping further up his neck. “You- you’ll- who do you think- you can’t-”

Ghost reaches out like he might slap Johnny, instead snaps right in front of his nose, sharp and loud. “Spit it out, boy. I don’t feel like listening to a kid learn how to speak all night.”

Johnny’s letting himself get worked up, and not doing a good job of hiding it. His teeth grind and he shifts from foot to foot, like he’d like to try and attack Ghost. He’s apparently smart enough to know how idiotic that would be, and Simon finds he’s almost disappointed.

Just saw your Beefleaf post and I love it! Thanks for sharing them... 🥰 So, what do you think are Shi Qingxuan and He Xuan’s greatest personality strengths and weaknesses? Why? What do you love about their dynamic? What are your favorite headcanons of them? Do you have any fav ships (from any fandom) that the dyanamic remind you of BeefLeaf?

Hnn... For Shi Qingxuan, he's obviously a very... tells-it-like-it-is person. They don't fuck around with being political or playing some social game, they like what they like and they care about justice and don't bother trying to be polite about it, so he tells people off even when no one else would. He's also the kind of person that doesn't let rumors cloud his judgement. That's why he immediately hits it off with Xie Lian, and that's why Hua Cheng seems to tolerate him the most out of anyone who isn't Xie Lian. Hell, Hua Cheng seems to even think he's kinda entertaining. He teases him and lets him yell at him and doesn't even give him the death stare he gives everyone else.

But at the same time, he's super naive and once he has an idea of someone, he doesn't waiver from that, and he's generous to a fault. Even after all He Xuan did, he was still apologizing and didn't ever show a lick of anger at him even once it was all said and done. And He Xuan even says once how 'he's generous to everyone, but people never return the favor.' It seems he's often taken advantage of, but it doesn't seem to bother him. He's also been living in his brother's shadow his entire life and still acted something like a child around him rather than becoming his own person. I think to become a better person, Shi Wudu HAD to die. But I think He Xuan probably thought that, too. Not that that's why he killed him, but he seemed dead set in separating them through that entire revenge plot.

For He Xuan, I do think that he has some semblance of those good traits that he had as a mortal. I think that's why he's so attached to Shi Qingxuan. SQX would never ever take bribes. He's selfless. He cares about justice above all. As much as He Xuan may hate himself, I think even in life they would have gotten along. I think he knows that deep down and that's why he gets so attached to him and goes along with things no one else would, and that seem so out of character for him. And I think he has a playful side to him that isn't really touched on. He's got pet skeleton fish that're useless as guards but lunge and bite him because they're so excited he's home. And the sort of stupid things he does when screwing with SQX is very cute; he's the sort of friend that's very antagonistically silly:

You can say he's acting but this behavior persists at the end of the story. This is really how he feels about SQX. That's why he kept him safe when he didn't need to and why he dropped him off in the capital and why he granted him spiritual energy and gave him the fan back. This behavior was real. He's a silly guy.

And I think, too... I think if it was just himself who was wronged, he probably wouldn't have gone so far. I think it's more about his family. He strikes me as that kind of person; he cares about the people he cares for more than he cares about himself. That's why he couldn't give in and HAD to get revenge; it was for his family. He had to do it. But at the same time he couldn't bring himself to hurt that other person he came to care about. That's how it feels to me.

But at the same time, for the bad things, he's just... He is a hungry ghost. He's deeply, deeply resentful, and he's stubborn. I think the stubbornness has always existed. That's why he was hated as a mortal; he was stubborn in his refusal to bend against his morals and it pissed off other officials. He's extremely unwavering and cares deeply, deeply about justice and righting wrongs. That resentment from the wrongs his family received lasted hundreds of years, and persists through his revenge plot; he's still sticking around and appears at the end of the story as a shadow who gobbles up a ton of food in Puqi shrine.

You can say that's how they're opposites; Shi Qingxuan has an endless supply of forgiveness, and He Xuan has an endless supply of stubborn resentment.

I think when I lay their characters out like this, it's pretty clear what I like about their dynamic. Despite it all, they are genuinely best friends, and I do think He Xuan does love him. And even before Shi Wudu fucked He Xuan over, I think in a way their fates were intertwined. Born the same day, both with earth-shattering destinies, with the same name, and the day one was meant to die, the other was meant to ascend. And was much as Shi Qingxuan may think otherwise, I think if not for Shi Wudu, he would have either ascended by his own merit (suggested a few times in the text) or become a famous ghost king (since their fates were switched, He Xuan becoming a ghost king implies that that was Shi Qingxuan's original fate). In a way, Shi Wudu is the great curse here. Even before the fate switch. It was Shi Wudu that the Reverend of Empty Words was attracted to. He went for Shi Qingxuan because Shi Wudu was untouchable, and Shi Qingxuan just happened to be there and had an 'earth-shattering fate' in the same flavor that the Reverend liked best. From birth Shi Qingxuan was fucked over purely because he happened to be Shi Wudu's brother. He was the looming curse hanging over Shi Qingxuan's life that needed to be exorcised.

Talking headcanons... I could mention how I do actually think that He Xuan does love Shi Qingxuan, but I think that's more theory than headcanon and if you read that Beefleaf post you'll get what I mean by that. For actual headcanons...

I think that they'd reconcile eventually. I kinda feel like He Xuan might end up stalking him or something and eventually Shi Qingxuan would catch on.

I know people talk about Beefleaf as being bittersweet and how Shi Qingxuan will die, but... Based on what he said to Shi Wudu while being tied down, and the stuff he's said to Xie Lian about thinking he's cool, I think Shi Qingxuan wouldn't give up cultivation. He will never ascend again, but the Xianle State Preceptor never ascended, either, and has lived for over a thousand years. Shi Qingxuan is not untalented. He had an 'earth-shattering' destiny with or without Shi Wudu, and he was able to perform spells at age 16. I think by his own merit he'll be able to cultivate as he pleases and he'll likely have a long life ahead of him. I don't know that his arm and leg will ever heal fully, given he retains his limp even over a year after he retains the injury, but I think he'll find that wanderer's life he was hoping for. And he'll prove to himself that Shi Wudu never had to be there to keep him out of trouble; he can do just fine on his own. He just had to go through the growing pains of learning.

I like to think that Shi Qingxuan's female form looks like He Xuan's fiancee.

Shi Qingxuan is too oblivious about how Xie Lian and Hua Cheng act toward each other and the whole 'evil energy coming from inside you' conversation at the end of the story in Puqi shrine to know much about homosexuality. It's vaguely implied by the story with how little homophobia happens that most of the gods existed in a time when China was more open about gay relationships, but maybe Shi Qingxuan was from the time where that started to change. He doesn't seem to think of gay sex as even like. A possibility. Even in that little bedtime story extra, he suggests that Xie Lian turns into a woman to consummate the marriage. So it feels likely it's likely a one-sided love to me. But I think in a scenario where they reconcile, when Shi Qingxuan becomes more worldly and not so sheltered, it wouldn't be one-sided anymore.

I really do think that if their fates weren't swapped, Shi Qingxuan woulda ended up a ghost king. The shadows and black air that both He Xuan can turn himself into and that his underlings appear as sort of implies a connection to wind. Shi Qingxuan as a ghost does sort of feel similar to the drought demon Nuba, who descended from the heavens and is depicted in either green or black(think: black calamity), and is the goddess of drought. She can summon hot winds. So I think that in a scenario where she lives out her life as intended with none of Shi Wudu's interference, as a ghost she'd be like Nuba and probably still be the black calamity. I bet she'd get along with Hua Cheng. She'd probably just stick with the female appearance since she likes it best and it's like a baby blanket to her and she wouldn't have Shi Wudu telling her not to.

I don't know that there's any other ships that really remind me of them. Not really. You'd think there'd be some enemies to lovers sort of stories like this but while you might get characters like He Xuan, the one like him would be an abject abuser and the other character nothing quite like Shi Qingxuan. Maybe something like Dokkaebi Ritual? That one's bottom is more like Shi Qingxuan in how unapologetically wild they are. I think Dreaming of The Dokkaebi might be a bit similar too, with the fates being intertwined, but the bottom would be more like He Xuan. I don't know that there's truly a story I can think of with their real dynamic.

Aw thank you Anon! I’m gonna use this Ask to just share some thoughts and feelings so I hope you don’t mind. I am sorry I haven’t really been active here (or any of my other accounts for that matter) it’s just

1. I’m reconciling my feelings towards this show with the actions of some vocal disgusting z!onists being part of the cast and crew spreading hatred online. And with that I need to stress that separation from actor and character is what I abide by regardless of anything.

2. The fandom itself being rather quiet with production only just starting up again. Which I feel now can maybe allow me to be more active without as much petty discourse.

Going forward, I still love the show and really moreso now the dedicated fanbase in my corner with Mileven. I’m putting no effort into discourse and “ship wars” as it’s just time wasted. I also don’t think the actions of few reflect the whole. And it’s more than just “famous” people that contribute their creativity to Stranger Things. So many talented people who add to the series that don’t have a platform for hatred and bigotry to be shared and I think in general it’s important to remember that about any media production.

I still love the series and honestly now it’s hitting me that this is the final season with the news that (allegedly) ST5 is starts production again today. I’m gonna just enjoy what’s left of the show that is coming to an end. I’ll be around still drawing my fav losers too, Mike and El (and the others) from time to time. Here’s a wintery doodle.
