Justice League x RWBY Part 2
I love it. Although there's some moments involving team RWBY that really need to be in Volume 10.
Some highlights and a few of my thoughts under the cut because there's spoilers. And fair warning: there's 26 screenshots, I got a bit carried away and this got a little long.
We see Weiss struggling with the loss of Atlas, something that I hope will at least get touched on in Volume 10. It's good to see her talking to Klein, if just a video call rather than in person. There's also a glimpse of the anti-Schnee sentiment: an otherwise empty cafe where Weiss goes, apart from two faunus she helped save from Grimm. No one else wants to be around her. Poor Weiss. She deserves better. I guess at least she wasn't refused service.
Blake gets the door open to where they need to go to help the Justice League, who somehow manage to call Weiss on her scroll after running into trouble with Grimm inexplicably on Earth.
Blake ready to open the door. Her enthusiasm is so cute.
A slash from Gambol Shroud and a kick does the trick.
Finger gun and wink from Yang in appreciation, enough to get Blake to blush, despite the fact that this is after they kissed in the Ever After.
After they go through the portal and somehow automatically undergo some changes that seem to make them fit into DC's Justice League, Yang has no difficulty recognising Blake without her ears, and in fact notices they are missing before Blake does.
Poor Blake's reaction is funny, and I feel bad about that. But it is played for laughs, and she does get them back as soon as they leave, and in a computer simulation thing in the end boss fight. The same goes for Yang and her cowlick.
It's great to see Yang talk to someone a bit about what she went through after losing her arm. Even if she only did it to try to help Flash accept that he can't force himself to get over a traumatic experience because there's some things you just don't get over. Like her arm. Now if only she could talk to someone on her team about it...
And there's moments between Ruby and Yang that really really need to be in the main series:
There's when Yang's concerned that Ruby is being reckless, Ruby thinks she's doubting her, but Yang insists that she never has, she's just concerned that it isn't Ruby's confidence at work but a death wish. That Yang needs her sister. And Ruby throwing herself at Yang to hug her, and tell Yang that she's not going anywhere.
"You promise?"
And while Yang is airing her concerns, Blake puts a hand on her shoulder which Yang takes as a wordless communication to make her tone less confrontational. And it also seems like Blake giving her girlfriend some support while she's upset.
Yes, Blake looks weird without cat ears. No, she doesn't like it either.
It's good to see Yang letting Burn loose once she can (team RWBY don't have their Semblances on Earth, but other powers, apart from inside another simulation where they have their normal abilities again).
Ever since the fight against Ace Ops at the end of Volume 7 I've been wondering if Yang's burning orange eyes of fire are an evolution of her Semblance. She definitely still flashes her red eyes sometimes, like when punching Salem in the tits.
Yang briefly fighting a possessed Wonder Woman is a pretty cool moment, especially when using her Semblance to punch her through two trees (Yang did take some hits so... Burn must've been pretty charged up).
Ruby takes some punishment from possessed!Wonder Woman too. Yang catches her. Ruby tells Yang that she can't protect her from everything, that she has to trust Ruby, that she's not going to leave Yang, that she's not (their) Mom, and not Raven. My feels!
"Ruby!"
While Ruby is talking to Yang, some of it is done with a sort of mirror image of when Ruby drank the tea in Volume 9: Yang reflected in Ruby's eye.
Yang later getting possessed herself and Blake being the first to notice! Blake pointing her gun at the possessed Yang and saying Kilgore (the possessor) could never fool her using Yang!
A disturbing sight for Blake, Yang's eyes all wrong.
Weiss using a Summoned giant Arma Gigas arm to grab Yang and say "You can't have her!" Just too bad 'Yang' uses Burn to break free.
Ruby getting possessed Yang off a rooftop!
And a team effort with part of Justice League to free Yang.
Black Canary catching Yang after the Flash freed her (there was a cute moment when Black Canary and Yang met, Canary expressing appreciation of another blonde). Rather blurry because they were in the distance. This is pretty much from Blake's POV, as she had been using Gambol Shroud's ribbon to restrain Yang's left arm from a distance.
It's good to see a brief glimpse of Blake and Weiss helping Yang stay on her feet after she's freed from possession.
Team RWBY confront Watts in the final simulation, on Atlas, quite possible outside the Schnee mansion just to hurt Weiss more.
Unimpressed Yang is unimpressed that Watts expresses contempt of imbeciles (which everyone but him is) but worked with Kilgore, an actual idiot as Yang puts it. And she'd be in a position to know after having had him in her head.
It's satisfying having them provoke Watts into explaining that he worked with Kilgore because he was an idiot, and intended for Kilgore to get trapped. Kilgore overhears and possesses Watts, allowing Cyborg to trap them in the simulation indefinitely while everyone else leaves.
And we get a second Bumbleby kiss! I'm a little disappointed it was just a brief still image rather than actually animated, but it's another kiss!
But yeah. This has such good sister interactions between Yang and Ruby, and they really need to be in the main series too.
And yes, it was a bit of a pain in the neck getting these screenshots. Some of them are blink and you'll miss them moments.

I would need to rewatch the scene to hear what Weiss says verbatim, but from what I remember when she says “And Penny” in that distressed tone, Ruby is already Off. Her body is already in shock. She doesn’t know what happened in detailed but that’s the moment it begins.
“It all happened so fast. Nobody came back to help. And Penny! Jaune tried to help but…. Penny sacrificed herself..”
The audio on Weiss grows faint as Ruby passes out and her ears start ringing so again I’m not sure how much is actually correct in the above. But Penny being dead was the moment of that scene.
Now before anyone who sees this jumps me or calls me out my name I’ll say this: Yes “it happens off screen” is annoying and Yes they’ve done it before. However I think “everyone told Blake about what happened while she was gone, magic and Salem and Oscar and Ozpin” makes more narrative sense than This time.
And AGAIN this is me talking in hindsight after I’ve already seen the end product. But Penny being dead and Ruby’s reaction to that, I truly don’t think would have changed.
Even if Weiss had said “Everything happened so fast. Nobody came back to help! And Penny! Jaune tried to help but… Penny told him to.. (fade out as Ruby falls)”
Again this is only hindsight. I don’t know what the i it’ll plans were or why this dialogue instead of a more clear one that showed not JUST Jaune’s involvement by Penny’s as well. I know a lot of people were expecting or hoping Ruby to lash out at Jaune Specifically because of Penny’s sacrifice, but I think any anger she may or may not have had (I don’t think there was any even in this alternate dialogue piece which would just be for the audience anyway) would have been overshadowed by pain and grief.
Also, the main point I wanted to make with this post, Jaune being the one to kill Penny is, in MY opinion, less about Ruby potentially being angry with him and more her being devastated that Penny still asked Someone Else to kill her. Because she told Ruby to do that same thing.
“Kill me and I can make sure the powers go to you.” Penny said this TO RUBY and Ruby, much like Jaune, didn’t like that plan. For Ruby she had the others to help hold Penny down and Jaune to boost her aura so she could fight a little better against the virus. Jaune “was the only one who could do it”, and Penny herself says there’s not enough time to heal her AND join in the fight to help Weiss. Jaune’s only other option was to not do anything about Penny or I guess try to carry her to the portal. But Cinder would’ve just killed them both. So in the end he honors her even though He Does Not Want To. But she asked him, like she asked Ruby, and he didn’t have any other option so he did it.
Much like chapter… I think nine, has to be nine, where people rightfully said Yang was acting too upbeat, a simple change IN HINDSIGHT FROM THE MIND OF JUST ME WHO HAS HAD TIME TO THINK ABOUT IT simple fixes in dialogue could save… Some hatred. Not all but some.
My thing with Yang was just to give all of her upbeat lines to either Weiss or Blake, and instead of the Ruby gem talking to Jaune it could’ve gone up to Yang who was standing off a bit to the side. Jaune could still have his anxiety speech but visually we see Yang worried and scared, and then have the symbol for Ruby ask if she’s okay, the scene plays out the same, maybe Yang can still say the fire and flood like but it’s delivered with a sense of wonder and dawning hope, and instead of rushing into the hug Blake or Jaune pull her into the group, then it plays out the same way to the end.
AGAIN because I have to repeat it just in case anyone reads this and decides to be rude: YES things happening off screen is annoying. But also NO I don’t think if Weiss had said “Jaune killed Penny bc she told him to” onscreen would have changed how Ruby reacted. Penny being dead At All is what triggers her, not how. The only BIG difference I can picture is if
“Jaune tried to help but.. (cut to a flashback of Penny telling Ruby to kill her to protect the power”
This would tie Jaune’s direct involvement with the sacrifice as well as Ruby’s guilt bc she was not there to stop either of them or to protect Penny. I don’t think it’s As Bad as people are blowing it up to be. It’s annoying yes but if Ruby was never going to be angry at Jaune about it then being told the specifics offscreen when ONSCREEN we see how Ruby reacts to the news of her death. I dunno in this specific case because we do have the scene we get it’s not super terrible TO ME PERSONALLY
Also last note but No, Ruby is not mad at Jaune for Penny, but YES I did recently wonder before the commentary came out if Ruby’s little “make believe friends” comment could be a remark about that. It’s NOT but if ppl wanted Ruby mad at Jaune then we did get it so. Idk. I’m not gonna tag this I e devised bc I just wanna say my thoughts. I do not want people being rude to me about this lol it hasn’t been that long into the hiatus for that.
#my thoughts about the commentary even tho I think what#we got in show was fine enough I’m not angry like many others#it could’ve been better with small tweaks but that’s me in hindsight#I didn’t make the damn thing and I can only say what might’ve been better after already seeing it in full

More rwby head cannons but I'm feeling sad so I'm gonna do a bunch of fluffy Oscar ones
Oscar and ruby do weapon maintenance for there respective teams they usually do it together while talking about there days and eating junk food
Ruby is very physically affectionate with her friends and Oscars no different after a little while she starts to lean on or even fall asleep on Oscar or hold his hand rarely she even kisses her friends on the cheeks Oscar almost had a heart attack the first time
Weiss and Oscar get along really well you can find them chatting about almost anything late into the night mostly politics history and philosophy there debates can get passionate but are always respectful
They also train together often because there weapons are similar in design long memory is basically a blunt rapier and Weiss actually does get some insight into possible flaws in her style from watching Oscar
Obviously Oscar and Blake read together but they also write I think there both the type of people to write really sappy love poems to no one in particular Oscar does pick up pretty quickly that hers are thinly veiled references to yang and it took blake an even shorter amount of time to know his were about ruby
Something they also share is a love of napping blake loved to curl up on the couch and take short naps and Oscar loves to just nap near someone so it's a win win yang has lots of pictures
Yang and Oscar get close fast i think there personality bring out a lot in the other yang helps Oscar let loose and Oscar helps yang stay grounded
I think yang knows very quickly that Oscar has a thing for ruby like he is not subtle at all but she likes Oscar so she encourages him to shoot his shot this also gives her someone to brag about ruby to who actually has the same enthusiasm as she does
Jaune and Oscar click combat wise they have excellent communication skills and even worked out a team attack (this may or may not be them launching eachother full speed at whoever there fighting)
Oscar and jaune train together a lot jaune knows what it's like to start from nothing so he knows it can be frustrating and alienating to be behind your peers so he helps with the emotional side to being a huntsmen just as much the physical
Ren and Oscar cook and they are competitive about it if they both have nothing to do expect them to be in the kitchen making food for the other and critiquing it they are both incredibly harsh but fair to the other and have both improved greatly because of it there current score is ren 12 Oscar 10
Oscar gets frustrated with the spiritual aspect of semblances he doesn't really have experience with things like that so ren helps to guide him through that process the best he can
Nora and Oscar cuddle a lot when Nora gets back to the house after a long mission she wants to do two things eat and hug Oscar and Nora makes Oscar feel very safe so if he's stressed he'll go to her
It's no secret that Nora loves to eat so having three cooks in the house is great for her because she gets three amazing meals every night and Oscars to much of a softy to say no if she gives him the puppy dog eyes when she asks for something (he was gonna do it anyway)
Emerald and Oscar become friends fast when she's feeling like a bad person he knows just what to say or do to make her feel like herself and she helps him by literally always having his back if he's arguing for something even if she's not sure herself she'll go with him because of the trust she puts in him
One day out of the blue emerald brings Oscar a pistol and tells him she wants to teach him he of course says yes oscar takes to it like a fish in water emerald feels incredibly proud he tries to downplay his skill by saying it's cause of oz but she doesn't accept that and tells him it's all cause of him
Penny and Oscar have a lot in common and at first are sort of wary of the other this strange new person that they both sort of already know is hanging out with there friends this quickly fades into mutual respect and admiration at first they were both scared of the same thing that they were going to be replaced Oscar thought that if they had penny what would they need him for and penny was worried about all she missed while she was gone and how close they had gotten to Oscar
They become close and no longer see eachother as replacements for the other and see eachother as two people in the same situation who can relate to one another
Ozpin and Oscar are always together and as such talk a lot of Oscar is bored he will just ask oz about something random and is can and will talk about it for several hours if he isn't interrupted it helps Oscar fall asleep ozpin doesn't mind
They also have completely different tastes in food Oscar loves vegetables and ozpin is a man child who refuses to eat them they also have opposite taste in drinks oz enjoys very sugary hot coco and Oscar likes black coffee

RWBY Recaps: Volume 8 “Ultimatum”
Welcome back, everyone! We had an unexpected break last week due to the horror going on in Texas. I'm glad we did. Not because of any salty "RWBY is bad right now yay free Saturday" feelings, but because keeping to a schedule for a fictional webseries should never take precedence over peoples' safety. I can't believe I need to type that sentence out, but it's true! Over the last seven days I've seen fans who are not merely disappointed by the mini hiatus (understandable) but outright hostile towards the crew because they... were ensuring everyone survived during an unprecedented emergency? Yeah. Given the highly critical nature of these recaps — including today's! — I want to be clear that my thoughts towards Rooster Teeth's creative choices are distinct from any thoughts about the crew itself, including the most basic forms of compassion like, “I sure hope everyone is okay over there.” In an age where it has become horrifically common to harass creators and even send them death threats over stories, it has likewise become necessary to remind people: Don't do that shit. Never do that shit. If I can teach anyone anything at all, let it be that!
Anyway, dark fandom reminders out of the way, let's dive straight into our delayed episode. It was certainly a doozy. Titled "Ultimatum," we open on a trigger warning for flashing lights. Good on Rooster Teeth for including that, though I do wonder if creators shouldn't be including time stamps as well? Or perhaps a note that you can find those time stamps in the credits, avoiding any (minor) spoilers for everyone else? I'm not photosensitive myself, so I certainly don't mean to speak for that group, but my first thought was, "So how would I watch this episode if I was? Hand on the pause button, hoping I stop fast enough as soon as the lights start?" Hard to do given the surprise nature of the scene. Really, my answer would be, "Wait for the fandom to post warnings of their own, likely including where it happens so I know when to skip" which is perhaps an indication that this information that should be included from the get-go.
But I am glad the warning exists, regardless. The episode itself begins with a shot of Ironwood looking down at the kingdom. He's used his windows as a vantage point since Volume 7, so that's nothing new, but something about this particular shot reminded me of Ozpin, looking down from his tower. I'm sure the response from many would be simply, "Ah yes, the two power hungry dictators watching over their victims," but I think there's a much more nuanced reading here about leaders being expected to fix the literally unfixable and what that responsibility does to an individual. Of course, it's a nuance that is absolutely obliterated by the episode’s end, but the implication existed for a hot second!
Two other soldiers are in the room with Ironwood, reporting that Cinder has helped Watts escape. They try to soften this with news that they still have Jacques in custody, but receive only a, "I don't give a damn about Jacques Schnee." Which, fair. He's pretty useless at this point. It's when Ironwood learns that both Qrow and Robin escaped too that he really gets mad, something his subordinates have been expecting given their scared expressions.
Now, I'm treading lightly here because I realize how this is going to sound given the end of our episode, but I still want to note that outside of that ending... this is a weird take? Just hear me out. Since Volume 7 the show has worked very hard to make Ironwood seem scary and unstable — bad setup for what we end with today — but the problem is that none of it works in context and it certainly doesn't work when compared to other characters' actions. They are literally in the midst of an unwinnable battle and thousands of his people are dying. If the audience wants a human being — who also just lost a limb and was betrayed by half his allies — o remain perfectly poised and polite during that, sorry, but that's not how human beings work. But even beyond this, what’s the message here? Ironwood raises his voice, so does Yang. Ironwood hits his desk, Qrow hits a child. If we're going to examine how Ironwood handles his stress and anger, he often handles it better than many of our heroes. Namely, by continually taking that anger out on inanimate objects. I kept waiting for him to attack his subordinates or attack Winter this episode, especially given where we end up, but it never came. Ironwood always has enough control to break the desk or punch the wall, not the person in front of him. Which, of course, would not be a good thing in the real world. I want to be clear given these sensitive subjects that if someone is breaking things in your presence that's a major problem to address. But this isn't the real world. This is a fantasy world in the middle of a war, populated by other characters who express their anger by punching people, slamming them into walls, or screaming at them until they run away. The story wants us to fear Ironwood long before he makes his objectively horrific choices and it tries to achieve that by showing us characters who are clearly terrified in his presence, by giving us a string of broken objects in his wake. But those details don't land well when we compare them to other instances of stress. In the same volume I have watched Ironwood take a deep breath to calm himself down when things have gone horribly wrong. I've also watched Weiss start a conversation by threatening her defenseless brother. So again, what’s the message here? It can’t be that acting violently towards someone = villainous behavior because, as established since Volume 6, that’s common for the heroes. Why are these subordinates terrified about Ironwood slamming his fist on a table, but Whitley has no problem hugging the woman who threatened him? Obviously there is a HUGE difference between our main group and Ironwood when it comes to other actions (cough-bomb threats-cough), but these day-to-day moments don't match up. The show wants to use violence as a way for us to easily identify the Bad Guy while ignoring all the times when our heroes do the same thing.
All of which isn't meant to be a defense of Ironwood. As we'll see in a bit, there is no defense for what he's done. Rather, it's a way of acknowledging just how badly he's been written. Why does a man who consistently reins in his anger and takes it out on objects suddenly shoot a councilman for literally no reason? Why does a man defined by wanting to save as many people as he can suddenly threaten to bomb his city? Ironwood's characterization is all over the place, in the sense that they keep writing him as the morally gray, sometimes harsh, but ultimately compassionate man he started out as... up until they need a villain. Salem isn't here yet, so Ironwood can shoot Oscar. Salem isn't attacking yet, so Ironwood can shoot the councilman. Salem is currently reforming, so Ironwood can threaten YJR and Mantle. He's the B-plot villain whenever Salem is out of commission, which is a problem for both their characterizations. This filler doesn't make sense for Ironwood and it severely undermines the threat of Salem. You finally introduce the Magical Big Bad and our heroes are facing more of a threat from a guy with a broken army and three loyal allies left? Hmmm.
The tl;dr is that Ironwood's arc is a disaster and, frankly, it's gotten old reading simplified takes of, "It's just a realistic look at what white U.S. men will do in power sweetie :) " RWBY does not have the context capable of conveying that sort of critical take because our world is not besieged by literal monsters and an immortal witch, to say nothing of how real life good guys do not get deus ex machina canes that fix the problem instantaneously. Ironwood is not an example of anti-U.S. imperialism, he's an example of writers who don't know how to write.
Anyway, I'm getting severely off topic. Obviously Ironwood is a major part of this episode, but the problems demonstrated here are two years in the making. This is the culmination of things I've been discussing for months across hundreds of posts... so I should probably stop trying to summarize it all in a few paragraphs lol. Perhaps when RWBY is over — or Ironwood has died — I'll do a single meta on his character, try to pull everything into one, unified argument.
For now though, we have an episode to analyze.
While Ironwood is receiving this news we get flashbacks to Qrow and Robyn. Qrow attacks a soldier in his bird form, which is hilarious. Someone GIF that please. It does raise some interesting questions about this magic though: does Qrow retain his aura and strength in this form (something I thought given his choice to transform during the explosion), or was that soldier just so shocked at being attacked by a crow that he went down easy? We'll never know, because that would require establishing concrete rules for this world. The point is Qrow is going feral in his freedom, throwing punches left and right — did he kill that guard? — while Robyn watches it all from under a rock. They're apparently still somewhere in the facility since all the exits are guarded, but that's not the good thing Ironwood seems to think it is. After all, Qrow is out to murder him. He wants to be there.
We all see where this is going, right? The show is going to ignore Qrow's crazy belief that Ironwood got Clover killed in favor of a "Qrow saved Mantle by murdering Ironwood"/“Qrow got revenge for Mantle by murdering Ironwood” ending. Who cares why Qrow wanted to kill him in the first place now that Ironwood has his finger on the trigger? If RWBY is good at anything, it's writing moments that encourage you to ignore everything that came before it. We'll be seeing more of that in just a bit.
"Damn it!" Ironwood yells, because the show is leaning into its cursing. He orders that the subordinates not return until "you have Qrow Branwen in custody." Here we have another great example of the show conflating what the audience knows with what other characters know. See, we know Qrow has a vendetta against Ironwood. We know their relationship is the important one to the story and that Robyn is incidental. Ironwood doesn't know that. There's no reason for him, as a character, to specify that they only bring Qrow back, but it makes sense for the audience who has the whole, thematic picture. Our understanding of the situation is influencing Ironwood's dialogue, which is... not great.
This entire scene we've had creepy music to hammer home just how evil Ironwood is. Except, as said, he takes a breath to calm down and the music fades. Instead of flying into a rage, hurting someone, or doing anything the music suggests he might, Ironwood calmly calls in for an update — which is when the explosion hits.
It's MASSIVE, seeming to originate from a lightning strike, which is weird, since it's coming from inside the whale, but whatever. The animation is very dramatic and pretty, as we've come to expect of RWBY, but the actual plot is lackluster at best. It's funny though because I thought for a hot second, when Winter and the Ace Ops were caught in the blast, that RWBY had actually done something exciting. I mean, holy shit! There are the deaths we expect from a battle like this. My god, what is everyone going to do when they realize that Oscar's needless attack took out five characters, including Weiss' sister —
No wait, never mind. They're fine.
Let's talk about that "needless" descriptor for a moment though. Do you all remember, two weeks ago, when I went, "Hey, why isn't anyone telling Oscar that that Ace Ops are approaching with a bomb? They're on a time limit! If someone would just mention that Very Important Information then Oscar wouldn't keep standing around to fight Salem." See, at the time I was frustrated because of how the plot was needlessly allowing Oscar to put himself in danger (especially when the whole point of this mission was to rescue him). Now, I'm frustrated because that same plot needlessly wasted the most powerful weapon the group had. There was no reason for Oscar to use literal lifetimes worth of stored energy when the heroes already had a bomb to do the same job! What was the point of that? I guess he took out the other grimm too, but without the whale that still would have been a challenge with a finite end, one Ironwood's army and the remaining huntsmen should have been able to handle. It doesn't feel justified to have Oscar use a weapon kept on the bench for lifetimes when there was another option literally minutes away.
There's so much wrong with this I need another list. So:
Ozpin's cane supposedly stores kinetic energy, which may contradict what we've seen from it before. Regardless, we’ve never heard about this. The all powerful weapon comes out of nowhere
It also begs the question of why Ozpin wouldn't use that power at Beacon and why he wouldn't insist that they try to get their cane back while captured. You had an out this whole time! But we’re going to ignore that because Oscar is a little hesitant?
Which makes YJR's presence even more useless than it originally was, which was already pretty useless. Oscar essentially rescued himself
This kinetic energy miraculously doesn't hurt any people or buildings, just grimm
So what is the point of Silver Eyes? That's been their MO since they were first introduced. Sure, Silver Eyes can be used far more often than Ozpin's cane, but it still feels like a let down to learn that the Big Secret behind this weapon is... the exact same thing Ruby has been doing for years
Like Ruby, Oscar likewise didn't need any practice or training. He just set off this massive attack perfectly and without issue
We have now eliminated the biggest threat to the cast instantaneously — the whale and the other grimm — with no effort from the rest of the heroes. Like the Hound, the stakes are obliterated with no satisfying work on the part of our protagonists
Instead, as said, the actual plan already in place never happened. The bomb just... goes back. Kind of like how Cinder attacked and then just went back to Salem. Penny woke up and then just got knocked out again. We continue to go in circles
This is because no one took two seconds to tell Oscar, "There's a bomb on the way"
Because this threat is gone the show needs a new one, hence Ironwood randomly threatening Mantle with said bomb
The one way we might have justified Oscar blowing up the whale instead of Winter is if he did it to save Hazel, but Hazel is implied to be dead
Maybe he's alive, but if he's not that happened off screen and we're not sure how. It couldn't have been because of the blast itself — everyone else is fine — so what, Salem somehow killed him before she was blasted to bits? While he was holding her?
And there's no body?
Salem was torn apart multiple times during that fight and reformed instantaneously, yet now, conveniently, she's taking her time
None of the characters mention the issues above. None of them admit that there was no reason for Oscar to waste LIFETIMES worth of power when they already had a solution in the works. Fantastic
I need to take a moment to acknowledge that so far this recap feels... bad. Disjointed. Bit all over the place. Which makes a certain amount of sense because that's where my thoughts are at. There's so much going on in this episode — so much wrong with it — that I don't know how to boil it all down into a few, neat claims. This episode is a mess! We're barely a few minutes in and the combined issues of Ironwood's characterization and Oscar's choice have left me reeling. So if you're still reading this, bless your patience, I think we'll both need it for the rest of this journey.
Let's snag a neater plot-point to discuss. Amidst all the chaos Neo literally skips away with the Lamp, clearly thrilled at how her own life is going. Later in the episode she'll text Cinder with the obvious: Salem is going to be pretty pissed when she realizes this is gone. “If you want her name you know what you owe me."
So wait... what is Neo leveraging here? Is she agreeing to give the Lamp back so Cinder doesn't get in trouble with Salem? Give Salem the password she's been looking for? Or give Cinder the password to use the Lamp for herself? What would Cinder even want the Lamp for when she's after the Maiden powers? I'm confused about what Cinder is being blackmailed with. Regardless, she needs the lamp for something and presumably what she "owes" Neo is Ruby. We get a cut to her just to hammer that home.
(Side note: both pictures of Neo are hilarious.)
Before that though, back at the whale, everyone is taking stock of the situation when Marrow cries, "Hey, they were still in there!" I feel like this is another scene meant to make him look like the one good guy in the group — he cares about YJOR while the others can’t be bothered — but as always, that reading doesn't fit well with the situation as a whole. The others have barely had time to realize they're alive. I don't think it's a moral failing that they didn't instinctually worry about four betrayers, one of whom attacked them, while they're still checking that they have all their limbs intact. Besides, why does Marrow assume they're dead? The Ace Ops were caught in the blast as well, yet miraculously came out unharmed. They clearly didn't set their own bomb off, so it's logical to assume that YJOR did something themselves. It feels weird to have a "Marrow mourns them and Winter is the only other character who cares" moment when everyone is recovering from bomb shock and no one even knows if the others are dead. But, of course, the show is out to portray only two of these characters as good people, so ignore the logic and run with the emotion of the scene.
All of which is bolstered by Elm pulling away when Vine puts a hand on her shoulder. Why is she acting cold towards him now? Because they're not friends, remember?
While we get more ridiculous relationship dynamics, Ironwood calls in and congratulates them on the bomb working, but tells them to get back because they have another problem in the works. That would be Qrow and Robyn. Winter decides to tell him about the bomb in person.
We cut to Watts and Cinder watching the remnants of the blast from a rooftop. Cinder has tried calling, but no one answered. Unsurprising, given that Salem doesn't have any other allies left. Cinder says that the plan hasn't changed, she's still going to take the Winter Maiden's power for herself, and Watts can help her by bringing Penny here. He explains that he doesn't have full control over her. Rather, he implemented a virus that is setting her on a single path: open the vault, then self-destruct. Cinder, as one might expect, is furious.
She snags Watts by her grimm arm and threatens to toss him over the side of the building. Thus begins the best part of the episode, hands down. Despite the danger he's in, Watts throws common sense out the window in favor of dragging Cinder in the most satisfying manner possible.
“You think you’re entitled to everything just because you suffered, but suffering isn’t enough. You can’t just be strong, you have to be smart. You can’t just be deserving, you have to be worthy! But all you have ever been is a bloody migraine!”
It's true! You know what else is true? This speech could apply to our heroes as well. Accusations of entitlement and reminders to be smart as opposed to just strong hit hard, considering those are the same flaws our protagonists are struggling with. The difference is that Cinder, miraculously, listens, pulling Watts back to safety and going to cry by herself. That moment is simultaneously more growth than Ruby has gotten and more sympathy than Ironwood has gotten. The woman who murdered Pyrrha is treated more kindly by the narrative than one of our initial heroes and our very first villain has taken more time to reconsider her choices than our title character. You know a show is falling apart when excellent choices are applied to the worst possible character.
So Cinder is crying while Watts looks guilty and we cut back to YJOR's group post-blast. Yang is finally able to answer a call from Blake who is obviously overjoyed to see her. Weiss gives them directions to the mansion and they ask what in the world they'll do with Emerald, currently on her knees, mourning Hazel.
Thus begins the third most frustrating part of this episode. See, on the way back the group continues the conversation about what to do with Emerald, with Yang and Jaune distrusting her vs. Ren and Oscar encouraging cooperation. I can't believe I'm saying this after's Ren's speech and Oscar's entire existence... but I'm team Jaune and Yang here. Look, what Oscar and Ren say — the literal words coming out of their mouth — is nonsense. Ren goes, “We can’t let all of our actions stem from fear," as if Yang and Jaune are being ridiculous for mistrusting Emerald, one of the established villains, after years worth of harm from her. It’s weird that Yang points to her arm as something Emerald is responsible for, rather than being framed or the deaths at Beacon, but the general sentiment of, “She’s done horrible things!” is true. Ren’s perspective is the same simplification that was applied to Ironwood last volume, wherein everyone acted as if he was crazy for fearing an attack on his kingdom... post an attack on another kingdom and pre an attack on his kingdom. Putting generic lines in Ren's mouth about not being afraid makes him sound willfully ignorant, as if choosing to believe that someone is good will magically make them so, to say nothing of thinking it will erase all the harm they've already done.
Oscar at least acknowledges the difficulty here, but then follows this up with, “You don’t have to forgive her… just give her a second chance."
Oscar, honey, that amounts to the same thing in this situation. Allowing Emerald a second chance means working with her, which means trust, which means emotionally reaching a point where these characters can put aside the harm she's done them in an effort to give her that chance in the first place. This actually ties into a post I saw last night, one I've come across before, that claims redemption arcs don't require any suffering on the part of the person who has done wrong. I agree in theory, that prolonged suffering doesn't help anyone, but the problem is that people tend to conflate suffering with consequences and someone who has done this level of harm should face consequences for their actions. The problem with redemption arcs is not that the bad people suffer too much — emotionally and physically beating on them as a form of revenge — but that the people they've harmed are put into situations like this one. If Yang and Jaune let Emerald go like she suggests, they are agreeing that she doesn't have to face any consequences for the damage she's done (which, keep in mind, involves multiple deaths, not including all the lost lives here in Atlas). If they agree to give her a second chance, they are forced to jump straight to some level of forgiveness. We might claim they don't have to forgive Emerald to work with her, but from a practical perspective how are they meant to function, especially during a warzone? Anything she provides them with — information, watching their back in a fight, undertaking missions, etc. — requires trusting her enough to allow those things to happen: working with that info, letting her protect them, allowing her that responsibility. It's all about trust, trust she has yet to earn. In order for a redemption arc to be successful, the power has to be in the hands of the victims. They need to be able to see some justice for what was done to them, be offered some proof that the person in question has truly changed, and have the ability to walk away if they decide no, I don't forgive you, glad to hear you've improved, but please stay out of my life. Jaune and Yang have none of that. There are currently no systems in place for Emerald to face consequences for her choices, she has offered them no proof of her remorse or true motivations, and the other half of the group is pressuring them to give her that second chance without closure or reassurance. None of that makes for a good redemption arc and reducing that to, "So you want to see poor Emerald suffer, huh?" ignores the suffering she has already caused. The group are her victims and they are under no obligation to give her a second chance, particularly under these circumstances, which makes the story's choice to have Ren and Oscar act like Yang and Jaune are being stubborn or inconsiderate a problem. The conversation boils down to, "Give the woman you know to be a liar, manipulator, murder accomplice, and servant of our enemy a second chance based entirely on unfounded faith. If you don't you're letting yourself be ruled by fear."
RWBY's touchy-feely themes really don't sit well within its realistic, morally gray premise. We cannot continually have these characters go through hell one moment and then have others accuse them of being paranoid the next. The fact that all of this is wrapped up in the group trusting Robyn, Emerald, and Hazel over their established allies remains beyond frustrating.
Because yeah, you know how Oscar finishes his speech? “I’ve already gotten a lot of help today from someone I don’t exactly trust right now." Meaning Ozpin.
The story is trying to compare Emerald and Hazel to Ozpin.
"Oh hey, I kept a secret from you after lifetimes of watching that secret lead to betrayal and death. I keep apologizing for my mistakes while ignoring that I had no reason to trust a bunch of kids with such world-shattering information and also that you tore it from me in the most traumatic way possible."
"Oh hey, I willingly joined our world's version of the devil and helped her destroy your school, leading to numerous deaths including your friend and headmaster. It was his death that put Oscar in this position in the first place! I then continued to attack your group, leading to another near death of a friend, and a kidnapping, and the destruction of Amity, until I became scared enough to make a run for it."
Which one of these characters is granted an instant second chance? You'll never guess who!
And I do think the word "instant" is important here because just like Jaune and Yang have the right to have distance and justice from Emerald, they had that right with Ozpin too. The difference is they got it. They had the power in the situation, as evidenced by their use of the Lamp and physically attacking him. Ozpin heard what they needed from him — leave us alone — and did that without complaint. They were given months to come to terms with the secrets he kept. They were offered apologies and acts of service to demonstrate intent: saving them in the airship and continually saving Oscar. I don't believe Ozpin ever needed a redemption arc, but even if we think he did, he had it. After three volumes of material Oscar's perspective is still "I don't exactly trust [him] right now" but Hazel and Emerald have earned at least the same amount of trust in a matter of hours? They're really having my boy look at the guy who has tried desperately to do right by him despite unimaginable circumstances, and the guy who tortured him to get information for Salem, and went, "That first guy. He's the one we need to watch out for."
To make things even worse, Oscar tells the others that Ozpin took on all the torture so he wouldn't have to. So he did that and they still don't trust him? If you had told me back in Volume 6 that two years later the group would still be hostile towards Ozpin, while simultaneously urging one another to trust Emerald, I would have said you were lying. RWBY has its problems, but it's not that bad. Yet here we are. I suppose the one silver lining here is that Ren smiles when he realizes Ozpin is back? So at least one of them isn't prepared to draw their weapon at the mere mention of his name.
Both these moments raise more questions though. How in the world did Ozpin take on that torture when we clearly saw Oscar getting pummeled for a good portion of the kidnapping? Is that a weird merge thing the story hasn't bothered to explain? I wouldn't be surprised, considering Oscar said last episode he didn't want to use magic because it hastened the merge, he uses the biggest explosion of magic we've ever seen, and nothing has changed. Ozpin is still in the back of his head, thanking him for the tinniest shreds of decency they get. Ren, meanwhile, seems to be back to mindreading. How in the world does he know that Ozpin is back? I assume it has something to do with his semblance, but we don't know what. They could have shown us Oscar from Ren's perspective, perhaps with two distinct emotions swilling around to imply that he sees two different people now, not a useless shot of Emerald with purple flower petals, whatever purple means.
Oh, but no, we shouldn't have gotten either of these scenes. Remember that Ren's aura broke a very, very short time ago? Is it back already? Can he use this part of his semblance without it? Considering it was near impossible to see Ironwood's aura breaking in the Watts fight and we were then mistakenly told he used his semblance in the office, I'm going to go with, "The writers forgot."
Oscar explains that the cane had "lifetime after lifetime" of power in it and though there's still some left, "we have to be careful with how we use the rest." He says that Ozpin trusted his judgement and of course he did! Ozpin also didn’t know that there was a bomb on the way. Yet funnily enough, no one else mentions that, whoops, your choice made in ignorance was a waste and that's due entirely to us prioritizing hugs over basic mission information.
Also, all these explanations take place in front of Emerald. Half the group doesn't trust her, but they'll freely discuss their powers and limitations here. Remember how the group once wanted to talk about magical relics in front of the old lady they'd just met? Yeah, they've learned nothing.
Combine all this insanity with the fact that Ozpin's magic saved the day before Ironwood's bomb could do the same... while Ruby sat in a mansion drinking tea. Who's our hero again?
So things are a hot mess, to put it lightly. Their conversation finally ends when they hear voices and round the corner to find all the Atlas citizens huddled in the subway. For once the show actually writes them in a sympathetic manner, emphasizing how terrified and helpless they are. This image doesn't lead the group to any revelations though, certainly not anything that would tie back to Ren's earlier speech in the snow. No, once again the justified criticisms here are ignored as we hear that “However this fight ends, we could really use someone like you, [Emerald.]” That's it then. Discussion over. We knew as soon as it started that blindly trusting her was being presented as the "right" thing to do and now here we are, deciding that conclusively, despite Jaune and Yang's complaints. By the time the group reaches the mansion, Oscar is defending Emerald from Ruby. We're supposed to just accept that she's a part of the group now, only minimal pushback allowed.
Before that though we return to Ironwood getting news that their bomb never went off. He briefly wonders who else could have done that, but puts the currently unanswerable question aside for what he does know. They still have the bomb and it could be "useful." See, this moment — like shooting Oscar and the councilman — is when Ironwood just randomly goes off the deep end. One minute he's talking about what they've lost and cradling his new arm,
the next he's saying that he should have tortured Qrow to get Penny to obey him! Which doesn't even make sense since I'm pretty sure Penny hasn't ever spoken to Qrow. She wouldn't want anyone to suffer, true, but it's not like Ironwood had a close friend like Ruby to use as leverage. Qrow is just Some Guy to her. Regardless, he thinks Yang, Jaune, and Ren are decent replacements, despite Penny also having no relationships with them. This is what happens when your characters only start breaking up their teams eight years into the story, the response to Ironwood wanting to torture Ren to hurt Penny is, “Does Penny know Ren exists?” But, you know, torture is torture, right? Maybe. Probably not. I mean, if they're going to turn Ironwood into a cartoon villain, they could at least keep him smart.
Because all of this is just the height of stupidity. Ironwood wants to torture people Penny barely knows to make her listen (so just grab some civilians? It would do the same job...). Ironwood wants to shoot down empty ships, even though no one, including us, knows where in the world those ships would have gone. Ironwood wants to destroy an entire city to try and save another city. He wants to use a bomb meant for a comparatively small whale and acts like that alone will take out the majority of a kingdom. None of it makes sense! And I know the easy comeback for that is, "Well yeah, Ironwood is crazy and evil" but he's not. I mean he is. Threatening torture and bombings is obviously evil, but he's never been insane, or stupid. As said before, his arc (or lack thereof) is an absolute disaster. The fandom assumes so many things about Ironwood given the opportunity — the whale is a suicide mission. He expects the Ace Ops to die on his order — and the writing hints at so many things that never happen — he's going to hurt his subordinates, attack Winter for disobeying him — and every time what we actually get is a far more compassionate, level-headed character... until he randomly does a 180 and goes, "Let's murder a whole city now!" I never wanted Ironwood to be the bad guy, but they could have at least given me a persuasive decent into this level of horror.
So... yeah. Ironwood has got to die by the end of the volume, yeah? Between Ruby warning the whole world about him and him going into full villain mode, there's no coming back from this.
Neo sends her text to Cinder and the group makes it back to the mansion. Remember Yang's criticisms of Ruby's leadership? The ones she conveniently forgot about when Ren started to agree with her? Yeah, those are entirely gone as the sisters hug it out and, presumably, forgive one another for... daring to admit that things are bad? Look, I'm not going to deny that Ironwood's scene with Winter was creepy as fuck,
but I'm not of the opinion that the heroes are any better when it comes to the theme of obedience. They've attacked one another, screamed at one another, and any dissent from Ruby's leadership results in the questioner being left behind in the snow. We'll accept you again when you fall back in line. I used to adore the relationships in this show, but watching them now is just discomforting. The show might be 100% more obvious with Ironwood, using creepy music, a smile, and that hand on Winter's shoulder, but the concept of, "Sorry I dared to question you before! We won't ever do it again :)" isn't healthy either. The fact that the show keeps erasing theses problems with hugs — Weiss hugs Whitley now, Yang hugs Ruby, someone will probably hug Emerald soon — doesn't make the circumstances any less uncomfortable.
None of this even gets into the Blake and Yang hug. First of all, why is Blake acting like they had a fight and Yang might not want to see her? She's hiding inside rather than rushing to greet them, ears down in a devastated expression until Yang touches her. Combine this with Yang's "Do you think she's mad at me?" and it feels like the writers cut a fight in the final script and then didn't bother to remove the fallout from that. Seriously, where did any of this come from? You can't just have characters act like they've been fighting when they haven’t.
Also, can't forget this.
At this point there's nothing more I can say in regards to RWBY's almost-queer baiting. Is touching foreheads more intimate than the hugs Yang gave the others? Absolutely. Is that an appropriate stand-in for overt representation? Absolutely not. This would have been a perfect time for them to kiss. Take out Blake's nonsensical fear and replace it with them both reuniting after their first separation since Volume 5, working under the knowledge that either one could have been killed, finally admitting their feelings. Hell, they don't actually have to kiss. Not all girlfriends are interested in kissing! But they could use the terminology that makes things unequivocally canon. Another forehead touch when we got that in Volume 6? It's not enough, especially not when our straight couples have all been allowed their rep.
Ren at least wants to know where Nora is. He's presumably told what happened off screen as Oscar tells Ruby that Emerald is their friend now.
Then an emergency call from May interrupts the reunion and the group learns that Ironwood is bombing the Schnee ships. “Those ships… they were going to save people” Weiss whispers. How? Tell me how they were going to save anyone. Where were you going to take these people where they would be safer than where they are now? RWBY continually asserts things without explaining them, meaning there is precisely zero emotional weight here. Again, Ironwood is far past the point of defense, but I'd be a whole lot more critical of this particular action if I had a better sense of why it's bad. He appears to be endangering the people given May's shout to run — falling debris? — but the further implication is that Ironwood has doomed the people of Mantle by denying them these ships. It's that part that makes no sense based on what we've been told.
Which finally comes to the ultimatum of our episode title: Penny opens the vault, or Ironwood bombs Mantle. Great! So glad this plan is wicked smart and works well for his characterization. It's definitely not a nonsensical, unfounded, overblown change that feels like it belongs in a child's cartoon, complete with dramatic spotlight. Nope. Excellent writing choices all around.
Our final line of the episode is, “I hope you live up to the title I gave you," referring to Penny's job as the Protector of Mantle, and you know what? That line could have been very cool if it was delivered by an Ironwood with a persuasive fall and a halfway decent plan in place. I love that we've twisted the concept of a protector and turned the title into a horrifying, rather than honorable responsibility... I just hate everything surrounding those details.
So, usual RWBY fare.
(At least we get to see that Nora is awake!)
Will things get better over the next four episodes? I doubt it. We're still expecting the rest of the Ace Ops + Winter to ditch Ironwood, someone getting the vault open, the fall of Atlas, now the potential destruction of Mantle, and none of that includes Salem who should reform at any moment. Frankly, I'm not looking forward to any of it. The final leg of a season should make its audience excited to see how everything turns out, not dreading it. I've heard from multiple people that this is the volume that finally got them to drop the show and honestly? I'm not surprised.
As a final (happier?) note: we've finally got a bingo! I completely forgot our board last time, which was a terrible oversight, but we can update it now.
Our army of grimm can't kill anyone now that it got KOed by Oscar (that is the third one hit defeat of a major enemy we've seen this volume. Yes, I'm including the Hound considering it was obviously on its last legs after Ruby's eyes.)
I'm likewise including "Ozpin apologizes for everything including his existence" because he's done nothing but apologize since he came back. The emotion is there even if the literal words are not. Oscar reminded everyone of how untrustworthy he is, but kept the group from jumping them again. And Ozpin thanked him for it.
Neo didn't literally backstab Cinder (shame), but the Relic still counts.
So a triple bingo! Is that how bingo works? Idk, I've never played. I feel like I should have thought up some sort of humorous prize, but sadly I've got nothing. If you think of anything, let me know lol
That’s all then, folks. Until next week! 💜

Ren’s Discovery
Ren: Jaune?
Jaune: Yeah.
Ren: I was on the computer.
Jaune: Okay so-
Ren: I've seen it.
Jaune: *raises an eyebrow* What did you see?
Ren: Us.
Jaune: *relieved* Oh thank brothers, you meant just all age approiate fan-
Ren: On rule 34.
Jaune: Crap it was to good to be true. Okay, what's up?
Ren: I saw Qrow having sex with Nora.
Jaune: Okay. And?
Ren: And!? Jaune she was drawn having sex with Qrow.
Jaune: Yeah. So was Ruby, Gylda and Winter. So what?
Ren: Jaune you don't understand--
Jaune: Ren?
Ren: I mean what if Nora descides-
Jaune: Ren!?
Ren: I mean maybe I should---
Jaune: Ren, calm down, rule 34 does everyone like that!
Ren: Really?
Jaune: YES! Dude, I'm basically screwing Pyrrha, Ruby, Yang, Weiss, Nora, and Blake! Including you and Oscar!
Ren: Me and Oscar? That's kind of-
Jaune: Insane? Crazy? Fucked up? Kind of devinant? Yeah, that's rule34. No character in any series is safe from it.
Ren: No character?
Jaune: No character. Dude, some people drew me doing it with Cinder and Emerald, Pyrrha's mom, my own sister, and even with Cardin.
Ren: But I got-
Jaune: Cucked? Basically cheated on? Yeah join the club pal. People will do that. I been through it. (I also make sure Ruby never finds that out.) And don't blame the artist most of them are doing a job while few are just because! The point is rule34 is literally porn with characters from the show acting like porn stars. Basically don't take it too serious just admire the detail and the work the artist put into their stuff.
Ren: So nothing is true?
Jaune: Non-canon. Imagination. That's it.
Ren: So I can still-
Jaune: Stick your sword in Nora? Yes.
Ren: *relieved* Oh thank you.
Jaune: *sigh* Man. Glad you feel better. But since we're on the subject, be lucky you are not team RWBY.
Ren: Why? I mean they got most drawings.
Jaune: Yeah. Of them being horny, big penis sized fuck girls who would let anyone or anything smash them. Trust me, if they saw what you saw they be going crazy.
Ren: *nervously* Oh. Um... Jaune?
Jaune: What?
Ren: I left the computer on.
Jaune: *exe stopped working and rebooted* OOOHHH SHIT!!
Jaune and Ren run to the computer only to be too late. Team RWBY and Nora saw everything. Every image of them doing sexual things with strangers, eachother and their families. Yang was angry, Weiss was discussitsted, Blake embarassed beyond belief, Nora a bit unphased but Ruby feeling very ashamed of herself.
Jaune: Okay. Girls? Ladies? Mature young women? Listen, I get this looks bad but... I mean... well...
Yang: I'm going to kill them! *trys to walk away only for Jaune to stop her*
Jaune: NO YANG IT'S JUST FICTIONAL PORN.
Yang: SCREW THAT! THEY CRIMATED MY SISTER AS HOOKER!!
Ren: I mean red riding hood did have darker stories with-.
Jaune: REN, YOU ARE NOT HELPING!!!
Ruby: *in tears* Is this what everyone thinks of me? As some girl who can't control her urges. As some kind of slut.
Yang: SEE!? JUST FOR THAT, I'LL MAKE THEIR DEATHS SLOW AND PAINFUL!!
Jaune: *while being hit by Yang* Look Ruby, i-i-it's not that ba-
Weiss: How could people draw me like this?
Nora: I mean you do have an ego the size of that thing.
Jaune: NORA!!
Weiss: HOW DARE YOU!!!?
Blake: Wait didn't we see a few pictures with you and Jaune doing it?
Nora: I mean, if Pyrrha and Ren weren't going to shoot their shot then I'll shoot mines.
Ren: Oh so would sleep with Jaune!?
Jaune: Damn it, come on people, can someone help me!? Yang, is trying to kill somebody. Please, Yang, calm down!
Yang: NEVER!!
Oscar: Hey.
RWBY and JN_R stop what there doing to see Oscar and Penny.
Jaune: *scared* Oh no.
Penny: What's going on here? Why is Jaune holding Yang?
Jaune tells eveyone to play along.
Jaune: I'm just giving Yang a hug. Right, Yang?
Yang: Y-Yeah. Oh Jaune I love you so much.
Oscar: *looks to Ruby* Ruby, why is there tears coming out your eyes?
Ruby: *staring at the computer and Oscar back and forth* Umm just something on the web. You know... a sad video.
Penny: Really, oh Ruby, let's watch it together if you can't handle it.
Weiss: No-no-no just stay right there.
Oscar: But why?
Ren: Oscar, i-it's just-
Oscar sees everyone look at the computer. Penny sees this well and stares Oscar who agrees as he nods his head. Penny rush in and takes the computer only for her and Oscar to be stunned at the results. Oscar then sees his name and was ready to click on the link however-
Jaune: Oscar wait!
Oscar: ...
Jaune: Listen. Buddy there are times when a man or woman will sometimes have to let things go. Trust me, when I say, this, is right now the time to walk away and leave with your inncocence still attached. Oscar, please, don't click the link with your name on it.
Oscar: Oh how bad could it be?
Oscar clicks the link only to regret it in the end. He saw horrible images of himself and then proceeds to lye down on the floor and crys.
Oscar: I've been a good boy haven't I? I don't deserve this, do I? Did I do something horrible to deserve this? Why? Why?
Ruby: *comforts him* It's okay Oscar. We'll get through this together. *starts crying again with Oscar*
Jaune: Damn it.
Penny: *confused* I don't see the problem. I thought sex was a natural process for humans.
Jaune was about to explain only for Yang to wave her head and stopping him, knowing Penny would ask a bunch of questions if he tries to explain.
Nora: But to be clear, I still stand by to what I said, I would bang you Jaune.
Jaune: Okay, Nora, we get it. But like I said it's fiction, no one would do-
Blake: Jaune, let me be honest, I would do you if Pyrrha, Sun, Ilia or Yang weren't around.
Yang: Same here. You are nice guy.
Ren: No denying it.
Nora: *smile* Oh Ren!
Ren: Hey I being honest.
Weiss: Okay, perverts, but I wouldn't-
Jaune: *nervously* Yeah... Weiss... um... how do I put this?
Weiss: Jaune, not you too.
Ruby: *sobbing* Weiss you still have a big ego.
Weiss: Okay but still, I may have hated Jaune but I would never-
Jaune tairs Yang's shirt off, revealing her chest.
Yang: Jaune!
Weiss: *blushes*
Jaune: Guilty as charged.
Weiss: Shut up!
Blake: But would you screw Jaune?
Weiss: Oh gosh n-
Nora tears off Jaune's pants, revealing is sword and butt.
Jaune: Really Nora?
Weiss: *blushes brighter than before* You guys are mean. *walks off*
Yang: *staring at Jaune's 'sword'* Aren't you going to cover up?
Jaune:*staring at Yang's breast* Why haven't you?
Yang: You can look but never touch.
Jaune: Touche.
Ren/Blake: Will you both cover up. Please? I don't want look at Jaune's/Yang's dick/breast all day.
Nora: Admit it, you both like it.
Ren and Blake: Shut up Nora!

An OBJECTIVE look at James Ironwood
A much needed TL;DR: Ironwood’s story is sad. But it doesn’t excuse his actions just cause we’ve known him longer.
So I’ve made it.... abundantly clear on many many posts that ever since the end of volume 7 and into volume 8, I’ve hated General James Ironwood. I’ve made SOME posts “throwing him a bone” but I usually end up still emphasizing his flaws. So... Here’s a post where I DON’T focus solely on his flaws. Here’s a look at Ironwood’s actions from his introduction in volume 2, to now. And I’ll try to be as, well, objective as possible.
So James’ first appearance is in episode 2 of Volume 2 where he talks to Ozpin and, briefly, Glynda. He clearly has some history with Glynda, maybe a romantic relationship that I personally support 😗... Well I mean not NOW but I did. So Ironwood seems to be a bit of a 3rd wheel to Oz and Glynda, Glynda dismissing him and his compliment and Oz not being PARTICULARLY happy with him and his army’s presence in Vale and after a bit of arguing, James says the infamous line, that’s even quoted in his theme track, “Do you honestly believe your children can win a war?” James bringing his army to Vale, and then later going behind Oz’s back to the Vale counsel to get permission to protect the kingdom, and also get Ozpin in the Counsel’s bad graces? He... meant well. But it was still a betrayal of Ozpin’s trust. Which is ironic considering trust is Ironwood’s whole... thing.
And it also tells us something interesting. He UNDERESTIMATES the capabilities and potential of humans. I know that may sound a bit like I’m reaching but think about it, Atlas mostly sends soldier bots to take care of Grimm attacks instead of humans. And even when he DOES send human soldiers, they rely on surprise attacks to get the job done, like the Ace Ops arresting RWBY and friends at the beginning of Volume 7. And when they DON’T have surprise attacks, Atlas’ huntsman lose. The Ace Ops lost to RWBY, they basically lost to Penny in a 1v4 fight, which Harriet admits in saying “Good work would’ve been capturing Penny.” So yeah they lost, Clover lost to Tyrian and Qrow, which I know is a different scenario but still if he were among the best of the best he would’ve either recognized the bigger threat in Tyrian, or would’ve been able to hold them both off, or, 3rd option, would’ve retreated and let Qrow and Tyrian have it out then come back to arrest them both, or the remaining one considering Qrow vs Tyrian, when we get it again, is GONNA end in a death. Fair Game bias aside, everyone blames Qrow but Clover also could’ve been smarter in his final moments.
In fact EVERY major Atlesian we’ve seen has lost a fight at least once. Winter lost to Qrow in Volume 3, if you count that AS a fight, and Cinder in Volume 7, Ace Ops lost to RWBY and Penny, Clover, as mentioned, lost to Tyrian and Qrow, Watts lost to Ironwood, and Weiss has, notoriously, lost a lot of fights but among the first was against Banesaw, the White fang lieutenant in Volume 2, and most recently, Rhodes lost to Cinder, if you count him. Whyyyy? I’m personally of the belief that it’s because of Atlas’ over reliance on its tech, and I know I’m not the only who thinks this 😗. Atlas has the best Tech on remnant and can easily create robosoldiers or mechs to protect the pilot while also allowing the pilot to still fight. What use is training humans to fight when they have mechs and robots to do it for them?
Phew. That was a little off topic. I’m sorry, anyway, so in volume 3, James brings Penny to Vale to participate in the Vytal festival which, speaking of trust, he didn’t tell anyone about. I understand not making it public knowledge. Soldier bots are one thing but a robot that looks like a little girl? I don’t think that woulda sat right with people. So, yeah not making it general knowledge, makes sense. But not trusting your 3 closest allies, and FRIENDS, in Oz, Glynda, and Qrow? Like Glynda said, it’s time to stop talking about trust and start showing it. That aside, things go decently well. No DIRECT signs of any conflict *looks at Cinder* and the festival goes well until the one on one finals. Yang attacking a “defenseless” student, in James’ mind, is horrible yes, but people’ll move past it, especially cause he disqualified her. But then shortly after that, Pyrrha, Ozpin’s chosen one for the Fall Maiden’s power, dismembers Penny on national TV. That is a huge blow for both the festival and him personally.
Continuing with Volume 3, while he’s calling for reinforcements, the robosoldiers that’re in his plane with him are hacked and cause him to crash land. Also a hit to him personally, HE ordered these be created and the fact that they were so easily turned against him and the people he swore to protect? Yeah... Kinda get it. Although, something else interesting in Volume 3, when he DOES rendezvous with Qrow and Glynda, Qrow immediately turns his sword into Scythe form for the first time in the show. And James’ immediate reaction? “Qrow! This wasn’t my doing!” and preparing his gun for a fight, before turning around and realizing that Qrow actually just saved him from a Griffon. This is........ interesting. Why would he assume a colleague he’s worked with for so long would suddenly be turning on him? I dunno. Just seems a little... paranoid wouldn’t ya say?
Volume 4, we see a new side of James. We see that he cares for Weiss, at least somewhat. More than Jacques, but granted a squirrel cares more about the Schneeblings than Jacques. But yeah, James has some pretty sweet moments with Weiss in volume 4, standing up for her at Jacques’ party, offering her a place at Atlas academy, he’s a pretty stand up guy to Weiss. But, big picture? This volume shows the signs of his paranoia being something serious. He completely shuts down Atlas. In his own words, “No one in. No one out. Not without the Counsel’s permission.” now, he knows about Salem. But he doesn’t know what she’s CAPABLE of, as implied by Qrow last volume. So, from James’ perspective, this DOES seem like the safest course of action. But this is exactly what Salem wants. Separation. Anxiety. Paranoia. FUEL for the Grimm. And this is the first sign of a common theme of James inadvertently playing into Salem’s hands.
Jumping to Volume 7, we don’t see him in 5 or 6 😗, James is still hella, HELLA paranoid, but he’s still happy to see Qrow and happy to have new allies. Now this is where we get a little dicey because volume 7 is a.......... divisive volume 😓. I’m gonna talk about JAMES’ perspective of events. Not necessarily my thoughts because... well... I’ve done that already lol. Many times 😓. So JAMES’ perspective on Volume 7. James sent the Ace Ops to investigate a stolen air ship and arrest the ones responsible for... ya know... stealing the air ship. So the Ace Ops do. And then they go back and take them to James’ office, and it’s the general’s old friend Qrow and his niece’s team and her friends, and a mysterious young man. We can see that James is happy to see Qrow, especially cause of the hug :3, and he’s especially happy to see Oscar, the new Ozpin. He trains Ruby and her friends with his Ace Ops, and allows Winter to help Weiss. And he DOES start to relax more. He starts to, dare I say it, let loose. He allows some lenience, he lets RWBY have the night off. Ruby going to Robyn’s celebration, Yang and Blake going on a double date with Flynt and Neon, and let’s the boys and Weiss have a movie night. He even gives RWBY and their friends their huntsman licenses. These are really great things to do :3
But where things start to crumble is after he announces that Amity is ready, which is a whole speech full of half truths, that he didn’t tell any of his allies about once again, to lure out Watts. It works, they fight, he wins, and we see THIS face.
This is a man who is completely CONTENT. He is happy in this moment. He’s arrested a man who’s always, by his own admission, been a pain in the ass, he has Clover, Qrow, and Robyn on the way back with Tyrian Callows, everything is great right now. He KNOWS that Ruby and her friends lied to him because Oscar told him, but he can sort that out with an honest conversation right? In my opinion, THIS screenshot is Ironwood’s last GOOD moment in the series. That thought process of everything is great goes to shit when he sees the Black Queen piece that Cinder left expressly to fuck with his head. And THEN he gets irrational and, once again, plays into Salem’s hands. He directly ORDERS the divide of the people. He plans to abandon Mantle, leaving them to die in the process, and he plans to completely sever Atlas from all of Remnant basically by launching it into the atmosphere to keep the Vault safe. That only ACTUALLY accomplishes one thing, being keeping the vault, which IS important. But it isn’t more important than keeping the people, ALL of the people, calm and prepared to face this threat, like he did at Beacon. He should have remained calm, like an experienced military official should, and made an announcement to all of Atlas and Mantle saying kind of what he did in Volume 3. “Grimm are all over the kingdom. You can either stay and protect your kingdom, or save yourself. No one will fault you if you leave.”
Ironwood has a thing with fear. He doesn’t want to admit he’s afraid of Salem. As evidenced both times he’s shot someone....... interesting 😓. In the last episode of Volume 7, The Enemy of Trust, this exchange happens. Ironwood: You still think I'm afraid? Oscar: We all are. It's what we do in our fear that reveals--Ironwood: That's easy for you to say!
And then later, in the first episode of Volume 8 Divide, he shoots and kills Sleet once he says... Well... His last words “And what’s this about martial law? Have you lost your damn mind?! Are you that scared of what-- “ And notice, Ironwood shoots after Sleet goes to say “Are you that scared of what might happen?” And he IS right about one thing. It IS easy for Oscar to say “It’s what we do in our fear.” Because Oscar is child who can AFFORD to be afraid. James doesn’t have the luxury. He’s denying his fear because he’s the general. He’s James Ironwood. He can’t AFFORD to be afraid. If he’s afraid, everyone is going to be afraid. And, well, he can’t have that. That would attract the Grimm. He thinks he HAS to have a level head at all times for the sake of the kingdom. But James even generals in the military have feelings.... and sometimes need therapy to talk through some shit 😶. But... well... Maybe too late for that 😶😓.
In conclusion: James Ironwood is indeed a tragic character. A character who has taken A LOT of blows. A character who has always been paranoid. ALWAYS been ready for an attack. But even though he’s always been ready, he still wasn’t PREPARED. He wasn’t prepared for the sheer strength and AMOUNT of Salem’s forces. If he was more calm and more rational, he could have prepared better. He could have had Mantle and Atlas united against Salem, and that’s what can beat Salem, like Ruby said. James Ironwood is a tragic character, he has had it rough. But that doesn’t mean we should overlook his OBJECTIVELY horrible actions through out these last 2 volumes. Like ya know... Murder.
Phew .-. This is DEFINITELY my longest post. This better get attention I didn’t do all this for nothing >_>
#RWBY#RWBY2#RWBY3#RWBY4#RWBY7#RWBY8#RWBY analysis#James Ironwood#General Ironwood#Siddy Rambles#Side note: this whole time I thought Sleet's name was Slate .-.#Turns out Slate is an entirely different character from After the Fall 😶#I have to go back and edit some posts even though it's kinda...#Too little too late .-.

Firen Lhain: Chapter 807: Streak: Part I / III
Yang walked atop the wall up to where Blake was squatted over, looking around the parapet to those on the ground outside the wall. Yang slumped against the parapet.
"From up here," Blake stated, "they almost seem like not so monstrous." She looked down at Cinder seeming to enjoy life, with Mercury and Emerald trailing behind her.
"So, uh?" Yang asked, and Blake leaned back until she was fully hidden behind the parapet. "Big, kind of big news." Blake just looked at her questioningly. "Okay, so, Jaune just said the Little Bit can sleep in our closet. And, when we're, you know? She'll be allowed to, you know?" Blake just looked at her. "What do you think of this?"
"What you mean?" Blake soulfully asked her, and slumped up against the parapet with her. "Is how do you feel?"
"Part of me is like bitter and jealous." Yang said.
"And the other half?" Blake asked her.
"Like really hot, I mean..." Yang tried to say.
"I saw this coming from a mile away." Blake said to her.
"You what?" Yang asked, "How could you?"
"Little Bit did tell us exactly what she wants." Blake replied, "And we're giving her almost exactly what she wants. Jaune doesn't want to do anything with her..."
"You sure about that?" Yang asked, and Blake rolled her eyes before lovingly looking back into hers.
"Intellectually." Blake stated.
"And, you know, physically?" a nervous Yang asked.
Blake developed a wide smile and even wider grin. "If we weren't keeping him so satisfied..." Blake salaciously said, trailing off and looking Yang soulfully into her eyes. "But seriously, having four wives is a bit too much for him."
"That's putting it mildly." Yang said. Blake looked at her with bright eyes in affirmation.
"He's certainly not looking to add to the harem." she voiced, "Maybe sometime down the line."
"How can you be so certain about that?" Yang asked, "I mean..." she tried to say when Blake kissed her passionately on the lips.
"I don't know." Blake replied, "I just know I am." She momentarily paused for thought. "If you want proof, though, Jaune has been keeping other women away more than we have."
"But?.." Yang asked and breathed in, "Isn't he afraid of what happens if they get too close?"
Blake snuggled up to her. "Yes. He's not a saint. Even if he might seem like it. That's one of the things I love about him. He understands that we're all flawed." As she said this, Yang grabbed her right arm where it had been cut off. "He then forgives," she said, and then grabbed Yang's right hand, intertwining their fingers, "and loves us for it."
Yang breathed in deep and then sighed, "Is that why you suggested, you know, to him? Because you knew he wouldn't?"
"Yes?" Blake asked, "But I also know what if we let them get closer, he will."
"But?" a confused Yang asked, "You trust him?"
"He will." Blake stated, "They will, because we'll allow it."
"So?" a more angry Yang asked, "You're okay if Jaune cheats on us?"
"Now?" Blake asked, "No, but I will before he does." Yang just stared in the air, completely confused. She dropped her head into her hands, and Blake just snuggled up even closer. "You can't be afraid of your own future."
"That is one of the only things I can't just get Yangry at and punch." Yang stated, and Blake kissed her on the cheek.

Yang snuck up on Aurora in the kitchen and wrapped her arms around her. She stiffened up momentarily before quickly relaxing, "Lady Yang?" Aurora asked.
"Wait, I'm a Lady now?" Yang asked, "Also, how did you know it was me?"
Aurora rolled her eyes while enjoying the embrace. "There are two lovely things pressing into me to tell you apart."
"Okay, yeah."
"And you are the only one with brown, scaled arms." Aurora stated.
"Okay, yeah." Yang said, "What about Ilia?"
"Mmm." Aurora replied, before Yang let her go. Aurora turned around to look at her. "I also doubt she would randomly hug me from behind. The scales are different, as well."
"Okay, yeah, you got me." Yang said, raising her arms. "But, I want to talk about, you know."
"I was quite surprised by how... accomodating... M'Lord was."
"Oh, yeah, and the Lord and Lady thing?" Yang curiously asked.
"Partially because that's how I feel." Aurora stated, "Partly because it's true, and partly because appropriate forms of address has been a sticky issue with you and your family."
"Okay, yeah, but you know, being all important is kind of strange to us... other than Weiss... who honestly seems to be handling this really well... and you basically worship..." Aurora smiled brightly and nodded. "Okay, yeah..."
Aurora stepped in and kissed Yang on the cheek before stepping back. "I admire all you. You are all so amazing. I know how much trust you are all placing in me, and I constatly strive to be worthy of it. I promise not to ever betray this trust."
"So, like, if Jaune did hit on you?"
"Should that ever come to pass, I would decline." Aurora replied.
Yang smiled for a moment until a worried look returned to her face. "Okay, but what if Weiss asked you to?" Aurora blushed so deeply is was clearly visible through her treefrog skin and bowed her head. "Okay, yeah, that might be too much, considering how much you... uh?.. think of her... Glad we had this talk."
"Myself as well." Aurora said with a bright smile, blush still visible.
* * *
Yang walked into the bedroom.
"My turns not up yet!" Ruby accosted her.
"Chill, Sis, I'm here for Ice Queen." Yang replied, this caused Weiss to let out a loud scoff as she sat up in the bed. "We can go back to Linnet in a moment, after you promise me something."
"Very well?" Weiss asked.
"Okay, talked to the Little Bit, and she said something."
"Curious?" Weiss asked.
"Exactly." Yang replied. "Alright, so, she said she would never break our trust."
"Indeed?" Weiss asked.
"But, then, I was like, jealous, you know, and pushed it..." Yang continued.
"Yes?" Weiss asked.
"Okay, yeah, you see, if Jaune tried to fuck her, she would refuse." Yang said, and Jaune grumbled. "Not saying you would." Yang said to him, before turning back to Weiss, "But you see, the thing is, Ice Queen, if YOU told her told, she would."
"Weiss stared blankly for a moment. "I promise to not give her such an order without permission from my other wives." Weiss simply stated. "And likely will have taken leave of my senses."
"Thank you." Yang said, and Jaune slowly sat up.
"Ruby's time IS up."
"But?.." Ruby tried to say.
"And I'm feeling good enough to get up. My wives have cured me." Jaune then started nudging Ruby repeatedly until she Petal Burst out of the bed. He slid over to the side and let Yang help him to his feet. Weiss then elegantly slipped out the other side. "We could help him to get dressed." she stated, and Ruby eagerly put her hand up.
"Oh, me!" she exclaimed.
"And," Weiss continued, and everyone looked at her, "I feel it would likely be for the best if Jaune did not wear his armour."
"Yeah... yeah..." Jaune replied.
* * *
Ruby passed Jaune his hoodie as he slipped his arms into it. She then tugged it down before zipping it up, and did her best to not giggle at it. "I still love the bunny."
"Perhaps we should get him a proper gambeson or arming doublet." Weiss stated.
"I don't know?" Jaune asked, "It's worked for me, so far?"
"It does not chaffe?" Weiss asked.
"Ah, I got used to that, a long time ago."
"An arming double would also offer more padding, and provide a firmer base on which to affix your armour."
"Alright, alright." Jaune stated.
"Can it still have a bunny?" Ruby asked.
"I do believe that is trademarked." Weiss stated.
"Bunnies?" Yang asked.
"Pumpkin Pete's Marshmallow Flakes." Jaune wearily stated. "The hoodie also reminds me of Pyrrha... makes me think she's still protecting me..."
Weiss was unsure of what to say as moisture appeared in his eyes. She leaned forward to kiss him on the cheek. "Then we will have to make sure it is kept safely, if it means so much to you."
* * *
Jaune stumbled out of the bedroom with Ruby nervously eyeing him from behind. Weiss more elegantly walked up, though still eyeing Jaune out of the corner of her eyes.
"Yo?" Yang said from one of the couches.
"Yang?" Jaune asked.
"What's up, Sis?" Ruby asked.
"C'we talk, Rubes?" Yang asked.
"I promiss," Weiss stated, "that should he fall, I will scream bloody murder until others come to aid me."
"I guess that works." Ruby said to her, and blew her a kiss.
Weiss nervouly looked between her and Jaune before pantomiming catching the kiss, and nervously walking off. They closed the suite doors behind them.
"Alright, Sis?" Yang asked, "What do you think about this?"
"I don't know, what?.."
"About Little Bit living in our closet and masturbating to us."
"Okay?" Ruby asked, "I know I'm the leader, but I really have no idea what I'm doing right here. I never thought I could get someone to notice me, nevermind having four, uh?, spices?"
"Not like I know any better." Yang replied as she slouched back, arms along the top of the couch. "You have to admit that Jaune got you goin' in Beacon?"
"Well, he is like really tall, and fun, and actually talked to me... but... I mean, I never dreamed he would notice me?"
"And Linnet?" Yang asked.
Ruby Petal Burst to another couch and slumped forward. "I really didn't know what to think of her. I figured that was my chance to get a best friend, but Weiss was so Weissy. But now she's still Weissy, but good Weissy?"
Yang nodded in reply, "And you know, gorgeous like a ballerina."
"Or an angel!" Ruby exclaimed, sitting up and vigorously pointed as Yang.
"Okay, yeah." Yang said. "But, aren't you afraid Jaune's going to cheat on us, or something?"
"Oh, pfft." Ruby said, "I'd be more worried about you. I mean, we all tried to seduce Jaune in Haven. I might not be very good at it, but you and Weiss and..."
"Wait, what?" Yang asked.

Face Turn - Three Count
What’s up fuckers it’s time for another chapter of Face Turn
This time let’s watch as these two slowly bond over their fucked up childhoods
Also this chapter has a joke about Weiss’s name and I want to clarify that Veiss is not quite the correct pronunciation, but it’s like the closest most english speakers can get to it
anyway AO3 link and on with the show
Her match with Yang had been long, painful and bloody. They had to sell this as the nastiest fight they’ve had and by god did they fucking sell it. Of course, their wounds weren’t half as bad as they looked, but they were still in some serious pain, and Weiss loved it.
She missed this adrenaline, she missed the thrill that came with a really good match. Beating the living shit out of Yang had been the most fun she’d had in well over a year now and it showed.
“Well someone here is having a lot of fun.” Yang joked, from the seat to her right, “for a loser.”
In the end that was the solution they found for the story. Weiss had beat Yang and showed the world that she was the strongest fighter around, but she had gone too far and the judge was forced to disqualify her and give the victory to Yang.
Yang kept her honor and her win streak intact and Weiss got to make her point that she could kick anyone’s ass in a real fight. Now they were both set to continue their rivalry properly.
She had to admit she was happy with that result. That didn’t mean she couldn’t sass Yang back though.
“And you’re talking a lot of shit for someone I just beat up.”
“Hey, if you want me to shut up, next time aim for the mouth,” she joked.
Weiss laughed, but Doctor Goodwitch was having none of that.
“You’ll do no such thing.” She interjected, “and you will both run your ideas by me before you go out there and beat each other black and blue. This is wrestling, not boxing.”
“Don’t I know it,” Weiss tried to bite back, but Goodwitch had a glare that would put even her sister to shame, so she toned the attitude way down, “sorry ma’am.”
They stayed in silence there for a while, patiently waiting for her to finish patching them up. It was awkward and painful, but the grin didn’t leave Weiss’s face the whole time.
“Hey, ice queen,” Yang called after Goodwitch had left, “wanna hit the bar tomorrow to celebrate our first match?”
It was good to hear that not even she was crazy enough to go drinking while on some serious pain meds.
“Only if you’re a gracious winner and pay for my drinks.”
The next day, after a nice night of drinking, Yang offered to do exactly that.
“Hey, I was joking about paying for the drinks,” she interjected.
“I know, but I am, in fact, a gracious winner,” Yang replied, looking her smugest.
“Yeah, not gonna happen,” Weiss slammed down her money and turned to leave.
“Jeez,” Yang complained as she followed, “it was just a few beers.”
“I don’t like owing people,” she replied, and before Yang could say anything she added, “and you saying I don’t owe anything won’t change that. I don’t buy that shit.”
“You have some serious trust issues, you know that?” That earned a laugh from Weiss.
“First lesson in the Jackass Schnee’s school of life,” she declared, “don’t trust anyone and don’t owe anyone shit.”
Yang looked at her like she didn’t know if she should laugh or give her a hug. Instead she settled for saying, “okay now I need to hear that story.”
“I’m not drunk enough for that one.”
But next week she very much was.
“Then I tried singing,” she rambled, “and of course that asshole tried to get his creepy little hands all over that. Then I joined the military, like my sister did, and there he was again trying to make sure I honored the Schnee name or whatever.”
“Shit, you used to sing?” Yang asked, focusing on the wrong thing.
“And I was fucking great at it,” she answered, with quite a lot of pride, “don’t ask me to try singing any of it now, I haven’t practiced outside of a shower in almost ten years.”
“Aww and here I thought I’d get a show all for myself,” she joked. There was something else in her tone, but it was lost amidst the alcohol and her absolute lack of experience with casual social interactions.
“Anyway that’s when I decided that I needed something that he would hate too much to get his hands on,” she continued, “something that he would refuse to tie the family name to.”
“So you’ve decided to spend the rest of your life punching people just to make your dad angry?”
“I mean, at first,” she hated how petty this made her sound, “but then I started liking it. It was something I could focus on and try to get better at, and I could do it for myself for once.”
Yang gave her a smile that was more soft and genuine than anything anyone had ever given her. Then she lifted her bottle and announced, “to spite and all the great things it helped us achieve.”
Weiss smiled back and raised her own bottle, “to defiance, and not letting anyone tell us how to live our lives.”
They both chugged their drinks and laughed loudly, like the two drunk idiots they were.
“Hey, wanna hear what’s worse?” Weiss offered, trying really hard not to laugh.
“You mean it gets worse?”
Weiss nodded and then leaned forward as if she was about to tell her some sordid Schnee family secret.
“Jacques doesn’t know how to say my name right,” she whispered, “but everyone thinks he does, so they all just say it wrong too.”
“No fucking way!”
“Yes fucking way!” She insisted, “my mom gave me a german name and it should be pronounced like Veiss Schnee, but that dumb shit has been butchering it since the day I was born.”
At that Yang started cackling.
“Shit, Weiss,” she called, trying and failing to say it properly, “your family makes even mine sound functional.”
“Okay now it’s your turn to share your tragic backstory,” Weiss asked, maybe a little drunker than she was planning on getting tonight.
“Maybe next time, Ice Queen.”
Thankfully Weiss didn’t have to wait long. Even though they barely saw each other at work that week, they knew they’d both be at the White Fang again. It was a strange new routine that she wasn’t sure when she had fallen into.
“So after Summer died dad got hit pretty bad. Couldn’t fight anymore, couldn’t even help around the house,” Yang told her over some drinks. Weiss had noticed she’d been drinking a lot less that night, “so that’s when I took up wrestling. Indie stuff at first, just trying to get some bills paid and help raise my sister.”
Weiss didn’t know how to respond. She’d never been in a position like that before. Should she console her friend? How would she even do that? Shit, were they even friends or just very close coworkers?
“I try not to blame Tai for it,” Yang continued, “he’s a great dad and I know he was going through a lot back then, but it’s hard not to get bitter over that stuff.”
She looked down at her drink, having vastly underestimated how hard this would hit her. It was strange seeing Yang’s face doing anything other than beaming or laughing. She was such a joyful person that it hurt to see her like that.
Damn it, she had to fix that.
“Hey, jackass,” fucking great start there, Weiss, “stop torturing yourself over feeling shit. Just because you know it wasn’t his fault doesn’t mean you don’t get to let yourself be bitter about it.”
Yang chuckled weakly, “wasn’t expecting an actual lesson in emotional health from you of all people.”
Weiss should be offended, but Yang did have a point.
“Hey, letting me feel things was the first thing I taught myself after I told Jackass to fuck off.”
“Was the second thing swear words?” Yang joked and it was as if that shadow from before had never been there.
“You can bet your ass it was fucking swear words!” She declared, slamming her hand on the table.
At that they both laughed loudly and happily. When had Weiss ever felt so at ease with someone else? The answer was never, but she didn’t want to focus on the sadness that came with that realization. She wanted to focus on the idiot laughing in front of her.
“Weiss Schnee,” Yang called. Her pronunciation getting just a little better, “you’re the fucking worst!”
To that she smiled.
She liked how her name sounded in Yang’s voice.

Okay, so first: I am so sorry it took me so long to respond, dear anon. I was really busy with school. Not to mention Tumblr wasn't kind enough to put this in my ask box, but I fortunately took the screenshot the day I received the message, while it got lost in all the other notifications.
Now, properly responding to your ask would require me to write a looonnngggg analysis. I have absolutely nothing against Bumbleby or Blacksun. In fact, I feel indifferent about both. I did say once I ship BS, but it kinda... disappeared? I think around V5. I'm not even sure what to think about Bumbleby at this point. I do feel like something is missing there, but I also don't think Blacksun should've become canon? Like I said, I haven't formed my opinion on the matter, but I'll try to explain it as good as I can while hoping to not write a novel XD
In volumes 1-3 we witnessed how friendship between Blake and Yang formed. After leaving Adam, Blake needed someone who would focus on positives, make her feel comfortable and offer emotional support. She found that in team RWBY. Did she form any special connection with Yang then?
I think this moment is one of the most important ones in their whole relationship. Yang told Blake she can't focus on fighting all the time - she has to rest too, with her friends by her side. She even winked at her, but I don't see it as something romantic. I'd connect it to Yang's playful personality.
After that, we didn't see anything really important. There were a few smaller moments between them, usually shared with Ruby and Weiss. Until the Fall of Beacon:
I've noticed many people pointing this out as the first evidence of Yang's feeling for Blake. For me it doesn't really make sense. I'm 100% sure her reaction wouldn't change if it was Weiss, not to mention Ruby.
After that, Yang expressed how disappointed and crushed she felt when Blake left. She obviously didn't blame her partner for what happened, but she was trying to protect her at that moment, she heard how she screamed after Adam hurt her. But Blake felt guilty and went to the only people she had left in her life - her parents. Sun travelled there with her, therefore they logically had to spend more time together. More one that later.
Now, them missing each other is understandable, but were they really that close? Yang wanted Blake to be with her. It was not the first time someone left her, when someone didn't give enough support after something tragic happened. Many people saw it as something romantic. I didn't. Weiss explained Blake's way of thinking to Yang and Sun did the same for Blake. However, many interpreted that longing as more than friendship. I honestly don't blame them. It really felt like they tried to work with something that... just wasn't there. Now, it all seems to come back to the moment when Yang lost her arm and Blake left her. And that's the thing that probably confuses me the most, so let's just leave it here and move on.
Volume 6, oh sweet, sweet volume 6. We started with Yang still being uneasy around Blake... for a moment. She said it'll take time for things to be normal again, but what mattered the most was the fact her partner came back. On the Brunswick farm Blake tried to show her support by promising Yang she'll protect her - Yang obviously wasn't happy with that. The audience received an information that there's still a problem, something's wrong... but then they started to talk normally again. Now, there were more important things to focus on, but it felt like the whole issue disappeared, it went absolutely nowhere. Then we got the fight with Adam. My biggest problem is his line "What does she even see in you?". It's really, really difficult, if not impossible, to not see it as something connected to love/romance. Would he say the same thing if it was Weiss not Yang?
After that we got the hug and hand holding. Was it romantic? Pretty much yes. Saying that the Renora airship scene from v4 was intimate, but this one wasn't seems kinda unfair to me. But why? Why was it romantic? What lead to those feelings? Where did they come from? There had to be something in v6. If we accepted the fact them missing each other was completely platonic then why it would suddenly become romantic?
Now, Blacksun. The first time we met Sun he immediately found Blake interesting and knew about her being a Faunus.
And while he might’ve been a bit “insistent”, he kept supporting Blake while trying to get closer to her. It’s obvious he was the one initiating something, like inviting her to the dance. Then we got this:
Now, blushes are something that can be interpreted in a few ways, mainly embarrassment or something more romantic. I think we can all agree it’s the second option. Again: why? When did Blake start to see Sun as someone she could possibly date? We obviously skipped some school weeks in the story, so it’s possible that they just spent more time with each other. Still, there wasn’t much we could pick to support this. At the same time it was more than what Blake had with Yang at this moment. While Sun became someone she started to develop feelings for, Yang remained her close friend.
Then came the Fall of Beacon. Blake ran away and Sun went after her. He felt like he couldn’t leave her alone, she needed support. Like I said, Sun can be insistent, but he’s still a great friend. The only time he acted like he was flirting with her was when he called her “his hero”. After that he kept being supportive, help her solve the White Fang problem etc. Blake on the other hand was constantly saying she doesn’t want his help and that she came here to rest. If there was any romantic development from v3 left, they both knew it wasn’t the right time for it. After Sun got hurt, Blake revealed why she ran away, why she didn’t want her friend to get close to her. She viewed herself as the source of their problems, wanted to be hated. Sun explained to her why her mindset isn’t healthy.
He even knew Blake kept thinking about Yang.
Oh, I almost forgot about the parents thing XD It’s obviously an old scenario: overprotective father and supportive mother meeting their daughter’s boy-friend. It’s always connected to romance between two young people, so I don’t blame Blacksun shippers for pointing it out. After that, we didn’t get much between the two. They focused on their mission, Sun kept supporting Blake in her fight. I v6 Blake expressed how much she'll miss him and kissed him goodbye. Sun told Neptune it was never about romance and it’s true to some degree. I’m sure he’d go after her even if he wasn’t in love. Sun is an amazing friend. He has his flaws, but you can’t deny his loyalty.
Okay, I skipped a few things here and there, but there’s still something I want to point out: the audience perspective. I think it’s safe to assume that Blacksun was more obvious choice. Does that mean Bumbleby never had a chance? Absolutely not. It’s not about whether it was planned from the beginning or not. It’s about buildup. When Blake and Yang got separated it was obvious they’re going to reunite. I wasn’t part of the FNDM during v4, so I assume people expected Blacksun to become canon during v4-5. I think it was still important to remember the fact of Blake and Yang reuniting in the future, which would obviously be crucial for their relationship. I also believe it was pretty obvious Sun wouldn’t stay with the group, so Blacksun would have to be confirmed later. I think the biggest problem with Bumbleby people seem to have is how obvious it is now. We all know it’s going to be canon, some even say it’s canon now. It does make sense since it’s inevitable at this point. But let’s look at this:
It seems like they’re trying to make up for what was lost in the previous volumes. Bumbleby technically isn’t canon yet. Blake and Yang seem to be fully aware of their feelings, it’s just a matter of time before they confess. Now, that may annoy some people, because we all already know it’s the endgame. At least that’s how I see it.
Now, which ship had more buildup? It’s honestly hard to say. Just because two characters shared more scenes together it doesn’t mean the ship is going to be canon. You have to look at the context. It’s also important to not have those characters be together all the time. It gets boring and annoying. Sadly, RWBY likes to do that (although v8 is doing a great job so far). I think both ships would need more time to be properly built up. Now Bumbleby is basically canon. The ship has its flaws when it comes to writing, but it’s not something that can be changed.

((Response to accidentally deleted dare sent by @kr-xero: “Mass dare—everyone randomly swaps clothes with someone else, even the guys”
For this dare, Jaune, Ren, Sun, Neptune, Flynt, Fox, and Yatsu have been added!
And for the purposes of this skit, everyone has to wear their new outfits for an entire day!))
Name Randomizer (these pairs swap with each other):
Emerald & Penny Flynt & Neo Sun & Pyrrha Ruby & Yang Blake & Nora Yatsu & Elm Cinder & Ren Jaune & Neon Neptune & Coco Ilia & Velvet Ciel & Fox Harriet & Weiss
Team JNPR’s dorm...
Nora: Jaaaaaaune, come on! The mall is gonna be closed soon.
Jaune, from inside the bathroom: I’m not going.
Nora: Jaune, whoever you swapped clothes it, it can’t be that bad. Like, Ren swapped with Cinder, and he actually looks pretty good.
Ren, nodding: Who knew thigh-high socks were so comfortable?
Nora: And I got Blake’s, and can I just say, this bow is cuuuuute.
Jaune: Good for you two. I’m still not going.
Nora: Who did you swap with anyway?
Jaune: Neon.
Nora: ...
Ren: Now we get it.
Nora: So what though? You’ve worn a dress before.
Jaune: Yes, and it was elegant and beautiful. This? This is not elegant at all!
Nora: But Jaune, it’s mall day!
Pyrrha, walking in from the kitchen: Uhm...
Nora, looking over and gasping: Ohhh my gods.
Ren, blushing: Let me guess. Sun?
Pyrrha, chuckling: Indeed. I tried to be as authentic to the original as I could, but I couldn’t quite pull off the, uhm....Sun’s unbuttoned look, without a sports bra underneath.
Nora, slamming her fist against the bathroom door: Jaune get out here, Pyrrha abs! I repeat, Pyrrha abs!
Jaune: So what?! We’ve all seen the Pyrrha abs!
Nora: *gasp* Blasphemy!
Jaune: FINE! *the door swings open, revealing Jaune in a blue crop top and pink skirt* There! Happy?!
Ren: *stifles laughter*
Jaune: Oh fuck, even Ren is laughing?
Nora: Jaune, you look good.
Jaune: Do I? Do I really, Nora? I look good in this?
Nora: Yeah!
Jaune: Then why do I feel so ridiculous?!
Pyrrha: It does show off your more...shapely features...
Jaune: ...Oh.
Nora: The gang’s all here, let’s go to the mall!
Pyrrha: Mall trip!
Nora: Woo!
Jaune: Wait! *getting dragged along by his team* Pyrrha, what was it you said about my shape—?
Blake, Sun, and Neptune hanging out at a downtown Vale cafe...
Blake: Wow, Sun. For once, your titties are concealed.
Sun, proud of his shiny chest plate he got from Pyrrha: I’m cool with it.
Neptune, looking over Coco’s sunglasses and nodding: That skirt really works for you, too.
Sun: Bro, that’s kinda gay.
Neptune: So what if I am?
Blake: Boys, focus.
Neptune, chuckling: On what?
Blake: I dunno. Something besides flirting with each other right in front of my salad.
Sun: You’re just mad because for the first time in your life, your weird knees are showing because you’re wearing Nora’s skirt.
Blake: My knees are not weird, they’re normal!
Sun, glancing under the table: I dunno...
Blake, crossing their legs: Watch it, monkey.
Sun: What?
Neptune: Did you just try to look up their skirt, bro? Not cool.
Sun: If I catch you trying to look up my skirt later, I will snap those glasses in half and tell Coco it was your fault.
Neptune, suddenly terrified: You wouldn’t.
Sun: Try me, bro.
Neptune: But I like having all ten fingers.
Sun: Then you better keep things above sea-level, got it?
Blake: Ha. I get it.
Neptune: Was that a hydrophobia joke?
Sun: Maybe... *reaches towards Neptune’s face* Those shades look a little smudged, lemme get that for you—
Neptune: NO! *smacks his hand away*
Ruby, Weiss, Penny, and Ciel at the arcade...
Ruby: YEAH! HIGH SCORE!
Ciel, tugging on the collar of Fox’s top: You know you can use the mallet to whack the moles, right?
Ruby: Why bother when I can punch them?!
Weiss: Just because you’re dressed like Yang doesn’t mean you have to—
Ruby: H’YAH!
Weiss: Punch...so much. Where’s Penny, by the way?
Penny: I’m behind you.
Weiss: AHH!
Penny, a blanket over her head: My apologies for startling you.
Ciel: Why do you have that blanket over your head? And where did you get it?
Penny: Uhm, the prize counter? And I’m using it to conceal myself. Emerald’s top is very revealing... *whispers* My joints are showing. Even the abdominal ones...
Ruby, taking a break from whacking moles: Here, Penny. *takes off Yang’s jacket* Put this on instead.
Penny, peeking out from under her blanket: Oh, thank you, Ruby. *puts on the jacket instead*
Ciel: How did you get enough tickets to win a blanket like that? That must have cost thousands of tickets.
Penny: The movements of the enemy characters on a lot of these games are really simple. I simply have all of their patterns memorized.
Ciel: Woah, that’s really cool...
Weiss: Not to mention, that combo of Yang’s jacket and Emerald’s jeans is...actually a really stylish look.
Penny: Oh. *poses* You think so?
Ciel: OMG...yeah...
Weiss: *blushes* Oh...
Ruby: *nosebleeds* So cute...
Yang, Flynt, Neon, Elm, and Harriet on their way to one of Neon’s parties...
Neon: Geez, does Jaune Boi not have any fashion sense? The bunny rabbit hoodie is cute, though.
Flynt, tugging on Neo’s top: Man, speak for yourself, I feel like I’m being slowly hugged to death. Seriously, who’s decision was it for me to have to trade with the smallest adult person in the world?
Yang, gesturing widely, doing her best Ruby impression: It’s but the will of the universe.
Flynt: The fuck does that mean? *coughs* For real, one flex and this thing’s gonna be ribbons.
Neon: And then Neo will turn you into ribbons for ruining her outfit.
Flynt: This thing’s stretched to all four corners of fuck by this point. It’s already ruined.
Neon: Oh well, Neo will understand, I’m. *glances back at Elm and Harriet* How are the two newbies feeling?
Elm, in Yatsu’s outfit: Pretty good. Kinda glad I traded with someone...not tiny. Sorry, Flynt.
Flynt: Riiiight.
Harriet, practically glittering in Weiss’ dress: I swear....I hate this.
Yang: Why? It actually works for you.
Harriet: That’s just the thing. I feel so...girly. If one of you makes a joke and I giggle, like, full-on giggle? I’m ripping this dress off and jumping out the nearest window.
Neon: Depending on where this party goes tonight, we might all end up doing that.
Yang: Atlesians are weird...why can’t Weiss be more like you guys?
Team CFVY studying in the library...
Coco: I’ll hand it to Neptune, he doesn’t have the worst sense of style, but... *takes the goggles off her head and glares at them* It’s not great.
Fox, in Ciel’s outfit: I’m certain I look great. Right, guys? I know I feel great.
Coco: Come on, Fox. You know you love it. Though the blue beret on red hair doesn’t quite click.
Fox: How embarrassing...
Coco: Velvet’s feeling herself, it seems.
Velvet, taking selfies: Hey, Ilia’s got good taste. I’m taking advantage.
Yatsu: Didn’t we come here to study? Rather than debate fashion?
Coco: It’s like you don’t even know me.
Cinder, Emerald and Ilia waiting in the hallway...
Cinder: Ugh, Neoooo! *knocks on dorm room door* How long does it take to put on a tux?
Emerald: I’d guess a little while. Lotta buttons.
Ilia: Sh—he did swap with Flynt. He’s probably trying to do his own quick tailor job so he doesn’t look like he’s wearing something insanely huge.
Cinder: Ren’s outfit is big on me and I’m dealing just fine.
Ilia: Yeah, but Neo is, like, a third of Flynt’s size.
Emerald: Why are you staring at me?
Ilia: I’m what?
Emerald: You keep looking at me.
Ilia: Oh. I guess I’m just not used to you wearing a dress.
Emerald, messing with the skirt of Penny’s dress: It does feel kinda weird. But also I feel really cute?
Ilia: You look really cute.
Emerald: Aw, thanks.
Ilia: Huh?
Emerald: You said I look cute.
Ilia: Out loud?
Emerald: Yeah?
Ilia: Oh...
Emerald, chuckling: You look really cute in Vel’s outfit, too.
Ilia: Oh.......
Cinder, interrupting them by banging on the door again: NEO! Come on!
Neo, suddenly whipping the door open, dressed in Flynt’s outfit: *flips the hat onto his new short hair* Ladies.
Cinder: Oh gods...
Ilia: Woah, Neo, you look so cool!
Neo, bowing: Thank you. I try.
Emerald: Did you cut your hair while you were in there?
Neo, shaking his head: Illusions.
Emerald: Oh, riiiight. That must be really useful, being genderfluid.
Neo: It is. Glad to know I.... *glances at Cinder* I can still pull off the masculine look. *winks*
Cinder: Uh-uhm.... *turns and starts walking away* T-Took you long enough, let’s just get going before we lose anymore time...
Emerald: But the movie doesn’t start for a while, we’re good—
Cinder: I said let’s go!
Emerald, looking at Neo: How do you do it?
Neo, shrugging: I honestly don’t know. Cinder’s always been easily flustered.
Ilia: Most obvious thing I’ve heard today.

How I would do RWBY pt. 7
War Arc.
Season Seven.
The Cabal is standing room only and Salem is enraged at recent turn of events.
Complains loudly to Myrmidon.
Myrmidon assures Salem that the current plan is not only progressing smoothly but Ozpin still has no idea what it is.
Salem calms down and her mind turns to Cinder. Particularly the fact that Ozpin has captured Cinder.
Salem wonders if she ever told Cinder about the current plan.
She realizes that, yes, yes she did.
Salem is once again angry.
RWBY and JN(P)R are enjoying relative peace as next moves are planned.
Neo is the most cooperative with authorities out of team CEMN.
Due to being, more or less, just hired help she isn’t all that helpful.
Emerald and Mercury are in a similar situation due to being Cinder’s direct underlings and not Salem’s.
All they know is what Cinder told them, which was only just enough to keep them compliant.
Cinder is the one that would have information but is quite tightlipped about things that aren’t insults.
Ozpin wants answers but Ironwood draws the line at out and out torturing a teenager.
Cinder is just waiting in her cell with one arm cuffed to a chair.
WBY and JN(P)R all have a go at trying to make her talk. (Ruby isn’t allowed near her)
Blake tries empathizing with her situation, formerly being one of the bad guys herself.
Cinder says that Blake was an easily swayed idiot who didn’t know what she was actually doing.
Ren and Nora try good cop bad cop.
Cinder calls both of them morons.
Weiss tries bribing her with money and medical help for her missing bits.
Cinder tells her to eat shit.
Jaune tries a ‘you’re a deranged psychopath, prove me wrong’ approach.
Cinder taunts him by talking about killing Pyrrha.
Not only does Jaune have to be pulled out of there, Ren and Nora have to be talked down from cutting the cameras and shank-rushing her.
Ironwood offers her a plea bargain. Spill on Salem and don’t get hanged for heinous war crimes.
Cinder rebukes all of it to varying degrees of profanity.
Penny’s turn.
Penny doesn’t ask her any questions or try anything.
All she says is that she forgives Cinder, that someone should even if no one else ever would.
Cinder is a little unnerved but remains uncooperative.
Everyone calls it quits for the day.
Ruby sneaks into Cinder’s cell when no one is looking.
Cinder almost has a heart attack out of fear of what Ruby will do to her.
Gives her an emotional speech on how Cinder and Salem ruined her life and the worst part is that it was her new best friend that did it.
Ruby is found and escorted out of the cell.
Cinder, having slightly awakened her long ignored heart, says that she did consider Ruby a sort of friend.
Ruby tells her to go to hell.
Yang notices that Cinder’s veneer is peeling.
Decides to take her shot.
Yang surmises that Salem was involved, to a degree, in raising Cinder.
Cinder confirms but also is insulting.
Yang talks about how she knows a little something about parental figures who don’t give a crap.
Cinder gets angry, says that she knows that Salem cares about her.
Yang says that if Salem cared then why did Cinder have to go to Atlas to try and get her attention again?
Cinder starts flinging insults about unloving mother figures.
Yang flings back better ones.
Cinder brags that they’re all dead anyway.
Says that Salem’s big plan is to set off a special bomb-like grimm that will turn another chunk of the planet into grimm land just like the territory around her sanctum.
Ensuring a lack of stability that will force the rest of the world to adapt and evolve.
She doesn’t know where Salem is planning to set it off though.
Everything across the previous seasons was trying to maximize chances of it going off without a hitch.
Weakening potential target areas, providing distractions, eliminating threats, things like that.
That or it was just another attempt to kill Ozpin. Sometimes both. Mostly both.
That’s when she realizes that she just told Salem’s master plan directly to her greatest opposition.
Says that her talking won’t matter and will enjoy watching Salem kill all of them.
Yang tells her to stop being such a chuunibyou.
Ozpin’s Council (Him, Ironwood, Glynda, Qrow, Winter, RWBY, JN(P)R, Ciel, mad scientist) start trying to deduce where Salem will set off the grimm nuke.
Atlas is too militarized, even with the troubles there. Vacuo is too close and wouldn’t provide much strategically. Menagerie and Mistral are both too out of the way to be of use.
The target is Vale. A centralized zone that still has yet to completely recover from the events of the school arc and will further fragment the free peoples of the world.
Not to mention that it’s Ozpin’s personal favorite kingdom. Just another insult on a very long list.
Everyone packs up and heads to Vale for a very somber return home.
Emerald, Neo, and Mercury offer to properly switch sides on the grounds that they had no idea about the whole ‘fuck over the world’ thing.
They only signed on to cause a little trouble and get paid.
They want to help stop Salem now, especially if they’re probably considered expendable collateral.
Offer is appreciated but the handcuffs stay on.
Upon arrival in Vale, Ruby and Yang are immediately accosted by Tai.
Tai is upset with Ruby for running off and not doing so much as ever calling him and he’s upset with Yang just for not calling ever.
He’s proud of his girls for doing so much to help the world, but still.
Raven is there too and offers Ruby a hug from her new stepmother.
Tai and Raven reveal their wedding rings, showing that they have in fact tied the knot (Tai’d the knot).
Yang BSODs for a moment.
Raven has a moment with Yang and Ruby, saying that she took the scolding to heart and realized that, yes, she was a piece of shit.
Came back to Tai to try and start making up for things.
It took a little work but Tai is no longer a depressed, overprotective, neglectful, sad sack of crap, so maybe it’s not the worst thing that she’s back.
She’s also given all the intel she acquired while part of the Cabal.
R+Y are skeptical but intend to burn that bridge when they cross it later.
Cinder sneaks out of her cell.
Tries to bust EMN out too.
They rebuke her, saying that they would rather not help permanently fuck over a continent and by extension the world for no real reason beyond ‘because you said so’.
They would rather live in the world, not destroy it.
Cinder leaves them to rot, finds her gear, and steals a new robo-arm for her trouble, doing everything she can to stay under the radar while she thinks of what to do next.
RWBY + JN(P)R have trips down memory lane as they walk through the ruins or the rebuilt versions of their old haunts.
Remembering the good times and the bad.
The trials and tribulations as well as the warm memories that they keep dreaming about returning to.
Then they get to work.
They scour the recovering city of Vale first for any sign of anything grimm or Salem related.
Team CRDL, who stayed in Vale as volunteer workers and security, say that aside from a few more grimm raids, nothing special has happened in months.
CRDL assist as much as a team of jobber jabronis can.
Surprisingly, they don’t act like cunts.
Ozpin realizes that the only places that haven’t been searched were the places he’s kept secret.
Reveals his illuminati style cave with monitoring equipment that has tabs all over the world.
It has cameras and stuff in places that Ozpin has absolutely no right or need to know about.
Low and behold, grimm have tunneled into it.
Myrmidon is in there, checking up on things.
She introduces herself to the main characters and then cheeses it, leaving a distraction force of grimm.
After they’re dealt with, they turn their attention to the big fucking elephant in the room.
Massive, bulbous, monster of a centipede grimm is right in the center of the chamber. The grimm nuke.
They’ve found it, sure, but now what do they do?
The Council has a brainstorming session to try and come up with a solution.
Can’t just kill it, it’ll go off.
Raven’s portals only go to people she’s bonded with in some way and it would still fuck up wherever it was teleported to.
It’s a living thing so disarming it like a conventional bomb is not exactly possible.
EMN are questioned on what they might know about it but aren’t able to help much.
This is when they realize that Cinder is gone.
Search effort begins to stop her from fucking everything up.
Yang and Jaune eventually find Cinder.
Keep up the browbeating even as they fight her.
Cinder says that even if she wanted to help, Salem would kill her if she did.
Yang calls Salem a bitch.
She says that Salem’s about to kill her anyway when the thing goes boom.
Cinder relents and says that she’s not sure but Ruby’s white fire is probably the key.
Salem had Summer killed out of fear of her semblance potentially interfering with this exact plan.
Cinder about to am-scray while Yang and Jaune are distracted by putting plan together.
Jaune stops her.
Punches her in the face, hitting the side that can see.
Says that that was for Pyrrha.
Cinder runs off rubbing her jaw.
Begin white fire surgery.
They cut small, precise, holes in the grimm and Ruby burns the resulting goo deluge.
Plan is working shockingly well. Grimm is losing explosive fuel by the truckload.
Takes some time, but eventually all that is left is the monster itself and the explosive trigger.
Trigger goes off in a pathetically emaciated whiff.
Everyone celebrates.
Then they realize that they still have a massive centipede grimm monster that is in the top ten largest ever recorded grimm underneath Vale.
Said massive centipede grimm turns on default mode. Default mode being rushing towards the nearest living thing and killing it.
Said grimm bursts into downtown Vale with more grimm coming behind it.
Right when they had just finished cleaning it up.
Season final boss time.
RWBY, JN(P)R, CRDL, EMN, and the living elements of STRQ fight the grimm.
Professors of Beacon are also helping as well as The Council in general.
Cinder, in her attempt to get out of there, gets caught in the fighting too.
Fuck it. CFVY and SSSN show up from Mistral on Ozpin’s request for backup.
All. The. Warriors.
EVERYONE gets a hit or two in on the grimm.
Big final hit with everyone involved.
Grimm is dead.
Salem is back in her sanctum watching this on a crystal ball or whatever.
Her own rage and frustration at what happened spawns a whole new horde of grimm.
Screams loud enough to break all the glass in her sanctum.
Ruby and Cinder have stare-down after grimm is dead.
Both silently decide that there are bigger fish to fry and go their separate ways.
Big celebration party. World saw RWBY kick absolute ass.
Cinder is out of options so she is now on her way back to Salem.
Myrmidon is sharpening her spear/sword/rifle.
She can’t wait.
Season seven done.

Ice Knight
Weiss: *sighs in depression*
Jaune: what's wrong?
Weiss: my father. . .he took my title of heiress of the SDC.
Jaune: what!? Can he even do that!?
Weiss: unfortunately, yes.
Jaune: and can't you do anything about it? Or someone else on your family?
Weiss: i'm afraid not. My sister gave up on her title long ago and my brother is too young to decide if he want the SDC or not, plus he's a puppet that my dad controls so i doubt he would want to help me.
Jaune: what about your mother?
Weiss: My mother does have power over everything since the SDC is hers and dad just married on the name, but even so all she does in her life is drink her depression away, she doesn't care for the SDC or me, so i doubt she would help me.
Jaune: right. And why did your father took your title of heiress in the first place?
Weiss: because i wanted to come back to my friends.
Jaune: just because of that!?
Weiss: *nods*
Jaune: *gets up, clenching his jaw* i'll be right back. *starts to walk away*
Weiss: where are you going?
Jaune: i'm going to take back what your dad stole from you. *walks away*
Weiss: wait! Jaune. . .He left, what does he think he's doing? *sigh* forget it, i'll ask him later when he comes back*
*eight months later*
Ruby: weiss, are you okay?
Weiss: well, considering that we're all on a jet making our way towards atlas, the last place i wanted to go on this planet including the grimlands, i could be a lot better.
Yang: chill out ice queen, this time we're sticking with you.
Nora: Yeah! If your dad shows up we'll break his legs!
Pyrrha: i just wished jaune was also here with us.
Ruby: me too, he's been missing for eight months now, i wonder if he's okay.
Pilot: attention passengers, we're now landing at the schnee mansion, please get your things ready to leave. Mr.schnee is waiting for you.
Blake: shouldn't we land at the airport?
Weiss: we already have a special place for that on my home.
Yang: is there anything the schnees don't have?
Weiss: happiness?
Yang: ouch, i was joking ice queen, no need to drag us down like that.
Weiss: *sigh* sorry, i guess i'm just in a bad mood, i really don't wanna face my dad again.
Ruby: don't worry, we're here with you. *holds her hand and smiles*
Weiss: *with a small smile* i know. . .thanks ruby. *takes in a deep breath and lets it out in a long sigh* let's go.
The door of the aircraft slowly starts to open, already giving them a view of the schnee garden, weiss gulps knowing that her father is there waiting for her, but as the door completely opened she was shocked to see a familiar figure that wasn't her father.
Jaune: *waving* hey guys.
RWBY/_NPR: JAUNE!?
Jaune: that's my name.
Weiss: w-what are you doing here!?
Jaune: after our talk a few months ago i decided to come to atlas to try and find a way to give your title of hairess back to you.
Weiss: are you crazy!? My dad would never allow that!!
Blake: speaking of him, shouldn't he be here? The pilot said that mr.schnee was waiting for us.
Jaune: and he is.
Before they can ask where he is, the pilot comes out of the cabin and walks to jaune.
Pilot: they're all here sir, safe and sound like you requested.
Jaune: right, thank you for the good work nick.
Pilot: you're welcome mr.schnee. *walks away*
RWBY/_NPR: *freezes*
Weiss: wait. . .did he just call you mr.schnee?
Jaune: he did. *sheepishly* i already told him and a lot of other peoples that they don't need to be so formal around me but they insist in calling me like that.
Weiss: why are they calling you mr.schnee!?
Jaune: well, because-
????: dear~ why are you up so early?
Everyone turns to the door of the mansion where a woman that really looked like an older weiss was standing, with disheveled white hair, a sleepy face and wearing only a nightgown
Weiss: MOM!?!?
Jaune: im sorry sweetheart, but i had receive our guests.
Willow: *walks to jaune and hugs him, resting her face on his chest* you know i hate to wake up alone on that bed, don't you?
Jaune: *hugging her back* yeah i know, i'm sorry for that. *gently holds her face* i promise i'll make up for that later, okay?
Willow: okay *gives him a peck on the lips* arc word right?
Jaune: *smiling* arc word.
Weiss: EXCUSE ME!? WHAT IS GOING ON HERE!?
Willow: *turns to them* hello weiss, it's been awhile. how are you?
Weiss: DON'T CHANGE THE SUBJECT!! WHY ARE YOU CLINGING ON AND KISSING ARC!?
Willow: *giggles* because i love him, obviously.
Weiss: that's still no excuse! What if father finds out about you and jaune being involved like this!?
Willow: *snort* he already knows about me and jaune.
Weiss: what!?
Jaune: yeah he does.
Willow: it would be weird if he didn't knew, our marriage was the main gossip around atlas for awhile.
Ruby: wait, marriage?
Weiss: don't tell me you two. . .
Jaune: *showing her a golden ring on his finger*
Willow: *doing the same* yes we are.
Weiss: *mouth agape* . . .how. . .how did that happened? What about father?
Willow: your father is being taken care of by winter, he needed to work somewhere after i kicked him out of the emprise and asked for the divorce and winter offered him a place at the military *grins* that was six months ago, all i heard about him after that was that he's been going through hell on the military camp.
Weiss: w-what about the SDC? Who's in charge now?
Willow: well, jaune of course.
Weiss: he's WHAT!?
Jaune: *looks back to her* technically, you're doing most of the work since i don't know how to deal with.
Willow: still, you're the boss.
Jaune: i am, but i would be lost without you.
Willow: you're smart, you'll end up getting the hang of it, soon enough you won't even need me there to help you.
Jaune: *pouts holding her by the waist* and not have you around me in the office? I rather stay the same.
Willow: *chuckles* honestly, how much of a dork can you be?
Jaune: as much of a dork as you want me to be.
Willow: good, now come here you dork. *pulls him into a kiss*
Jaune: *pulls her body closer while kissing her back*
Willow: *deepening the kiss until it turns into a heated make out*
Ruby: *blushing* t-they know we're watching, right?
Weiss: *also blushing* WILL YOU TWO STOP IT ALREADY!!!
Jaune: *breaking the kiss with a chuckle* sorry, i guess we got caught up by the mood.
Willow: agreed.
Weiss: *massaging her temples* oh my god, this is so awkward.
Jaune: it's not that bad.
Weiss: it is, very bad actually.
Jaune: i could be a lot worse. Speaking of worse, remember the talk we had about your dad a few months ago?
Weiss: the one before you disappeared?
Jaune: yup. I told you that i would take back what your father stole from you didn't i?
Weiss: yes, you did.
Jaune: well, thanks to my new position of leader of the SDC, i changed some things and managed to restore your title of heiress of the company.
Weiss: wait, really!?
Ruby: weiss, that's great!
Yang: congrats, just don't let it get over your head weiss-cream, we don't need to see the return of the stuck up ice queen from the start of beacon.
Blake: *nods*
Weiss: wait just a second, you came here to get my title back, and so you married my mom, kicked my dad out of the emprise and took over it just to return my title? Im thankful that you decided to go so far just to help me, but marrying my mom just for that doesn't make you any better than my father
Jaune: well. . .i actually didn't married your mother for that. See, when i came to atlas i decided to confront your dad about your title, but it didn't worked and he called the guards to kick me out of the mansion, i ran away and hid in one of the rooms of the house, coincidentally it was your mother's room. She looked so sad and lifeless clinging on a bottle of whiskey.
Willow: and that's exactly how i was feeling at that time.
Jaune: i tried to talk to her about you but sue wouldn't give me attention, she was just too broken to listen, and so i took upon myself to cheer her up, that way she could maybe help me to restore your title. The thing is, i. . . *blushes* kinda started to like her after some time.
Willow: same goes for me, seeing how such a kind and warm boy like jaune was willing to help me, a drunkard with nothing to offer to this world, sparked something i never felt in years.
Jaune: at first i felt a bit guilty because i knew that the reason why she was asking for divorce was because of me, but then klen told me everything you and your family got through in his hands, and so i helped her to get divorce and kick him out.
Willow: *smiling* after that me and jaune married and we're living a happy life ever since.
Jaune: yeah, i came here just to get your title back, but ended up staying because because of her.
Weiss: what about winter and whitley? Are they okay with this?
Jaune: i think your sister is okay with it, if the sadistic smile she had on her face when she dragged jacques off was any indication.
Weiss: what about whitley? He's always been father's puppet, i doubt he would just accept someone like jaune as his new-
Whitley: *coming in covered in dirt and sweat, carrying crocea mors and taking deep breaths*
Jaune: wow, you look exhausted. You okay?
Whitley: yeah. . .i just finished. . .the exercises you told me to do.
Jaune: and how it was?
Whitley: i just destroyed my first robot.
Jaune: wow, you're really getting stronger *pats his head* im proud of you champ.
Whitley: *smiles brightly*
Weiss: *extremely shocked* w-whitley?
Whitley: oh, hello sister, it's been a long while. I would give you a hug but as you can see, i'm a bit dirty.
Weiss: why are you dirty like this.
Whitley: jaune has been teaching me how to fight with a sword so i can be a huntsman some day.
Weiss: you want to be a what!?
Whitley: a huntsman. In the past i thought huntsman were barbaric people who had no sense of decency, but after i met jaune i realized that it was a lie, one of the many dad had told us. Jaune teached me that huntsman are brave and noble warriors who put their lives on the line for the sake of others, and one day i want to be like them, or at least like jaune.
Weiss: *speechless*
Jaune: if you wanna be more like me than go to your room and take a bath, i don't smell like that all the time.
Whitley: yes sir. *walks away*
Jaune: he's a good kid. . .weiss? You okay?
Weiss: i. . .i guess i'm trying to wrap my head around all of this, it's too surreal for me. I can't believe that you married my mom, a woman old enough to be your mother.
Willow: *muttering* well, he does call me mommy sometimes.
Jaune: i don't think there's a problem on that part, i mean, she might be old enough to be my mom but i still love her. *grins* Plus she still has the energy of a teenager and the body of a top model, so there's no downside in being married with her.
Weiss: *blushes* i don't need to know the details of your relationship okay?
Willow: *wrapping her arms on his neck* are you trying to flatter me my knight?
Jaune: *holding her waist* maybe. What if i am?
Willow: cause if you are, then you're doing a great job.
Jaune: thank you sweetheart.
Willow: don't thank me. *leaning on his chest and speaking sultrily* instead, why don't we get back to our room so i can show you how much you make me happy.
Jaune: aren't you tired after yesterday?
Willow: i just can't get enough of you, plus i can't get tired when i have this. *pulls out her flask*
Jaune: i thought you had stopped drinking?
Willow: and i did. *takes a sip of the flask* this is energetic, how do you think i keep up with you every single night?
Jaune: that explains why i saw klein carrying twelve boxes of energetic to our room last month.
Willow: the last time i drank alcohol was on our marriage, and it was just a glass of wine during the toast.
Jaune: i know, and i'm very proud of you for keeping yourself on the line for so long. *picks her up bridal style* guess i'll have to give you a reward for that.
Willow: i would love that.
Jaune: klein!
Klein: *coming in* yes, mr.schnee?
Jaune: Please help our guests to feel welcomed, there are some important stuff i need to deal with right now.
Klein: as you wish mr.schnee.
Willow: *pulls him into a heated kiss*
Jaune: *carries her away while kissing her*
Weiss: . . .
Ruby: . . .
Blake: . . .
Yang: . . .well, that was something.
Ruby: are you okay weiss?
Weiss: yeah, i am, i just need some time to get used to jaune being my new step dad even though we have the same age. . .i can't understand why my mom would marry someone so much younger than her.
Ruby: it's okay, at least your mother is happy and healthy now, right?
Weiss: . . .i guess you're right.
Ruby: besides, couples with an age gap like this are normal, like, take your sister for example, she's dating my uncle qrow, even though uncle qrow is almost old enough to be her dad.
Weiss: wait, winter is dating who!?
Ruby: y-you didn't knew? *sheepishly* hehehe, sorry, i probably spoiled a surprise.
Yang: does anyone knows where ren, nora and pyrrha are?
Blake: last time i saw ren and nora they were carrying pyrrha's unconscious body to the house after jaune and willow started to make out the first time.
Yang: oh. . .makes sense.

kisses and cuddles
wooooooooo time for some more fluffy shit yall i loved making this so much this sorta relted to my weed garden fic but you dont need to read it (be cool tho)
Ruby was sitting in the cafeteria with Oscar and penny she was too tired to pay attention to what the two were talking about penny sitting across from her and Oscar was excitedly talking about something while Oscar liens looking interested she’s unsure how he’s so put together they were both up late hanging out dreading comics and it’s only 7 am she leaned on Oscar and closed her eyes hoping to get a little more sleep before She had to do missions she had a relatively short one today only a search and destroy so maybe she could get home fast and take a nap Oscar nudged her shoulder and she lifted her head “hey don’t fall asleep if you don’t eat you’ll be grumpy” he says she fakes a pout and starts eating the gross cafeteria food she assumed that atlas food would be good sense it’s so many rich folks but no she’s actually had better tasting mres or maybe she was just getting spoiled eating Oscar and rens cooking “ruby why are you so tired did you have trouble sleeping” penny says drawing circles on the table with her finger “no me and Oscar were up late last night and I only slept like three hours“ penny frowns “while I am happy you and Oscar are spending time together you require at least 6 hours of sleep for maximum field efficiency” ruby just nods “so why don’t you seem tired Oscar you couldn’t of slept anymore than I did” she says with a yawn he shrugs and says “I guess I’m used to it I had to wake up early back home so I always didn’t get a bunch of sleep” penny raises a finger “actually according to my scans Oscars brain is only running at 89% efficiency and his hear rate is faster from his normal 48 beats per minute to to 51 it is likely that he simply better at hiding his tiredness” Oscar slumps “penny do have everyone’s heart rates memorized” he says exasperated “yes I also have all of your medical charts on file and criminal records why” he raises a brow “criminal record?” Penny nods “yes several of your team have criminal records qrow having the longest with 22 counts of public intoxication as well as 3 of public indecency and” ruby raises her hands “trust me you don’t wanna know the rest they had to make a new law for one of the things he did but who else has charges?” she tries to wake herself with conversation and it sorta works she also learns some new and unsettling things about her friends but eventually breakfast ends and she starts to get her gear ready she’s loading rounds into one of crescent roses magazine when someone knocks on the door to her locker room “it’s open” she calls out and incomes Oscar he’s holding a small Tupperware box and a small metal tumbler “hey I wanted to give this to you before you go” he says with a sheepish grin he sets the box next to her and hands her the tumbler it’s warm and smells good “it’s coffee, don’t worry I added way too much sugar for you and the other thing is a surprise you said you don’t eat a lot on missions so I made it for you it’s a bit of an experiment so tell me if it’s bad” she’s grinning ear to ear and stands up from her weapon bench and hugs him “you are the best and I’m sure it’ll be great” she gives him a kiss on the cheek she’s been slowly trying to work her way up to kissing him on the lips but nose and cheek kisses were enough for her he smiles and his cheeks get all rosey and he hugs her back and says “be careful ok sorry I know you can take care of yourself but just you know“ she squeezes him a little “yeah don’t worry I know I’ll be careful and when I get back we are so taking a nap mister I’m not that tired” he giggles and looks up at her with a smile “you won’t hear me complain and uh before you go could I uh kiss you like um on the lips” he says nervously she leans down pressing her forehead to his and smiles she smells his breath it smells like chocolate and coffee she feels her cheeks heat up to match his and says “I’ve been wanting to do that for a while now are you sure you want to ” he nods his head wordlessly she takes his hand and gently presses her lips to his its short and maybe a little clumsy but it makes her heart soar when she breaks the kiss Oscars breath shakes slightly and a little panic starts to fill her did she mess it up did he hate it and then he smiles and it all fades away “that was really nice” he says rubbing her knuckle with his thumb then there’s a knock on the door frame she looks up and weiss and Blake are standing there weiss looks annoyed and Blake is grinning “time to go ruby morning Oscar” wiess says already turning to walk away ruby quickly gathers crescent rose and Oscars gifts and says “bye Oscar I’ll be careful byeee” and dashed out the door behind the others Blake nudges her shoulder “your lucky I made weiss wait ,god you two are adorable” ruby squeaks “will you stop spying on us” “we weren’t spying you two dolts left the door open” weiss says annoyed
The mission was boring as she thought it was gonna be how normal soldiers couldn’t handle this she’ll never know on the airship ride home she opens the box Oscar gave to her a note on top says “have a great day and stay safe” she smiles at the note and sticks it in her ammo pocket it looks like a brownie is some kind and yang leans over and says “where did you get that”
“Oscar made it for me” she says taking it out of the container it smells like a peanut butter protein bar “ooo come on share with me pleassss” yang says putting her hands together “ugh your lucky I’m a good sister” she breaks off a small piece and hands it to yang and takes a bite of her own and it’s amazing it Taste like a peanut butter brownie but somehow better it’s somehow not dried out or crumbly yang seems to have a similar opinion “god if you don’t marry Oscar i will his food is too good”yang says with a laugh she kicks yang in the leg “I know right I can barely eat the cafeteria food anymore” her and yang chat a bit about food until they finally land Oscar is standing on the landing pad waiting for her she bounce on her heels excitedly despite how tired she is when the door finally opens she rushes out to hug him “how did it go” he asks wrapping his arms around her shoulders “oh it was easy but soooo boring I don’t know why they asked us to do it” she says leaning into him he chuckles “well I’m glad it wasn’t dangerous at least did you like it” he asks sheepishly she puts her head on his “yeees brothers it was great what was it” he unwraps his arms and looks at her “there’s no name for it yet but it’s kinda like a protein brownie was it too grainy or anything what about the after taste” he asks “I didn't even realize it was supposed to be healthy” she puts her hands on his shoulders “Oscar I’m gonna need more of that” he smiles “happy to make some more tonight” he says proudly yang walks past and ruffles his hair “make sure to make enough for me too kiddo” and walks off “how about that nap ruby my teams still on mission so we should have some time” he says taking her hand “yes please”
They walk back to team alpns dorm room after ruby changes into something more casual Oscar was already wearing his normal clothing he sits on his bed and smiles “I’m gonna get to have two naps today” she sits down next to him and throws her arm around him "you and your team sure like your naps huh" he smiles as they lie back on his bed "honestly who doesn't like naps I never use to be a huge cuddler but it’s nice to have someone close to you, you know” they lie back Oscar resting his head on rubies shoulder “well I do wish my team took naps together sometimes yang is a big cuddler too but Weiss doesn’t like being warm and Blake can’t sit still even so less than you” he snorts as he takes her hand running his thumbs along her knuckles “well I’m sure the others wouldn’t mind you joining our naps if have to ask but i'll warn you ren sits up in his sleep Jaune snores and i talk in my sleep” she raises an eyebrow “you didn't last time” she says “that's cause we were smoking but if i take a nap or if im really tired you can actually talk and I'll talk back” she grins “well what do you talk about” he rests his head on her chest “usually about my aunt or all yall but Nora has told me i say lots of stuff about you if i'm asked” he says his cheeks getting just a tiny bit rosy she grins and plants a kiss on his nose “well i hope i get the chance to ask but i'll probably fall asleep first im super tired” she rolls over and wraps herself around him oscar adjusting to lay on her arm pulling a blanket over them "well if you can get me to talk I'll answer any question just nothing to embarrassing please" he says “i would like to know what you have to say tho so maybe i'll try to hold out just a bit longer” she says closing her eyes as oscar lets out his relaxed sigh about half of Oscars communication was nonverbal she liked to mentally catalog the things he does when he relaxes he lets out a long almost high pitched sigh it makes her happy to hear that and it helps her relax her thoughts starts to get fuzzy as sleep takes her she wakes up a few hours later laying on her back oscar laying on top of her them both having wrapped around each other she hears quiet murmurs coming from him to quiet to understand "Oscar are you still asleep" she whispers no response "Oscar are you comfy" he nods his head "of course I'm comfy I'm cuddling with ruby" she snickers he was definitely still asleep "who's the coolest person you know" she she's "ruby for sure she's so good at fighting and everyone trusts her I wish I was more like her" she runs her hand through his hair "how do you feel about ruby " she asked "I'm in love with her she makes me feel strong and weak at the same time when she's with me I feel like I'm safe and that we could do anything together i want to be with her forever" she's crying now "oh shit I didn't expect him to be that honest" she thinks as tears run down her face "I love you too Oscar" she kisses the top of his head “you know i never used to want like romantic stuff and all the fluffy garbage i just wanted to be a huntress and fight grim stuff like that but you make me want that stuff i wanna take you on dates and like hold your hand and stuff there are a bunch of things i wanna do like” she pauses resting her head on his “i forgot you were asleep for a second i'm starting to embarrass myself i do love you tho i dont know when your supposed to say that we've only been i guess dating for what 2 and a half weeks my dad always joked that huntsmen relationships move really fast nothing like holy shit we might die to move a relationship forward right but you make me feel like i don't know amazing and I love being with you you make all my worries disappear even if it's only for a little bit and i'm rambling and your not talking back” oscar lifts his head “its cause im awake and i love it when you ramble” she feels her face light on fire “w-what when did you wake up” he hums happily “around we might die i think it was nice that stuff you said you can ramble longer if you want what that new gun you saw in that magazine” she smiles “it's a roller delayed blowback sniper rifle its a smaller caliber than crescent rose but it has a longer effective range because of the way the bore is shaped i prefer bolt actions to semi automatics for a long range rifle semi autos have there merits and stuff it's a lot lighter than crescent rose as well on account of it not also being a giant scythe you know i was thinking about carrying a pistol too crescent rose is great but shes heavy and she's also really hard to conceal even when shes folded speaking of i need to clean her gears a bunch of dust got in them today you said you wanted to learn weapon maintenance i could teach you today if you want” “sure i can learn there's a lot of things oz knows but it's like a big library without a librarian its all jumbled up” she scratches the back of his neck “well i do not understand the dewey decimal system but i'm happy to help” they both giggle at her joke ruby keeps rambling until the rest of team alpn return
Oscar is walking ruby back to her dorm they come to her door and they turn to face each other and oscar rubs his hands together “so ruby uh I got permission with ironwood to leave school grounds as long as someone's with me so I was wondering if you’d like to maybe go out like on a date” she smiles and puts her arms around his shoulders “sounds amazing sweetie I’m free this weekend where do you want to go” he blushes and says “well I actually have something in mind but I wanna keep it a surprise if that’s ok” she kisses him on the cheek “of course casual clothes or should i dress nice” he shakes his head “i mean it's really up to you but were not going somewhere fancy just a place I think you'll like" she smiles and kisses his nose and he leans up a little so there lips are level "can i kiss you again" he asks just above a whisper her pressing her lips gently against his is her answer they hold the kiss for a few moments Oscars hands drifting to ruby's waist when they separate she says "i think we're getting pretty good at that" Oscar smiles avoiding her eyes "yeah um It's certainly enjoyable" they break the hug "I'll see you in the morning I'll make that stuff you like ok" he says "yes awesome you're the best Oscar good night" she says as she slips into her from her teammates giving her knowing smirks

I'm going to have to disagree with you about Weiss's "go to your room" being childish. It's a callback to Jaques doing the same to her several seasons ago. Weiss is unconsciously or deliberately mimicking Jaques the second she has a position of power over her own family. That is not childish. It is horrifying in it's implications even if I do understand that RT meant it as a simple joke.
That’s true. I’d forgotten we’d gotten that line from Jacques (Volume 4 perhaps?) which yes, creates a rather distinct parallel once we recall both moments. Initially, I had read it merely as the “funny” moment RT seemed to be going for: Weiss sends her (perceived as) annoying younger brother (who’s not THAT much younger) to his room like a little child, she’s not smiling, but it’s supposed to be “funny” to the audience who wants to see “bratty” Whitley get what he “deserves.” Which, as you say, isn’t funny and that’s before we chuck in the issue of Weiss mimicking Jacques the moment she’s the head of the household.
Which, I want to be clear, doesn’t make Weiss an abuser. In fact, it makes a great deal of sense that she would repeat things she’s heard and experienced in the manor, likely subconsciously, and if that moment had been ALL we’d gotten, then Weiss’ hug this episode would have been a demonstration of growth. She might make some mistakes due to her abuse (and, you know, being human) but what distinguishes her is that she ultimately does care for her brother and ultimately does demonstrate that care — even if it took her longer than it should have. It also took Weiss longer than it should have to stop being so overly racist towards the faunus, but that’s the point of a heroic character: to watch them grow.
My problem with these scenes is that the “joke” is in combination with everything surrounding it: Weiss initially dismissing Whitley despite her mom begging her not to forget him (she was reminded to be a better person all of a day ago), her unwillingness to reach out perpetuating other problems (Whitley had a way of contacting a doctor this whole time. If Weiss had bothered to talk to him, Nora might have gotten care sooner), the incredibly iffy foundation this care seems to be built on (what happens if Whitley suddenly does something Weiss doesn’t agree with? Will her love automatically be revoked?), and the fact that she started all this with a very dangerous weapon pointed at his face. I don’t care whether RT intended us to take that seriously or not, I’ve always taken it seriously because textually there’s no difference between her threatening Whitley with a serious expression, threatening the Ace Ops with a serious expression, or arming herself when someone knocks at the door with a serious expression. What this tells us is that Weiss was prepared to use violence against (and absolutely used the threat of violence against) her brother, just as she would those she considers her enemies... and that’s a far larger issue than, “Weiss subconsciously mimicked Jacques while ordering Whitley to do something harmless and then later fixed that behavior.” This wasn’t harmless and thus it needs to be addressed, both the behavior itself and the underlying feelings that led to it: Namely, why Winter was able to see the good in Weiss despite her own flaws, but both sisters never seemed to try and nurture Whitley the same way. We can’t just erase Weiss (and Winter) ignoring their brother, dismissing him, and then threatening him with a scene that at its core goes, “Oh you’re useful! I love you now.” At the end of the day, Weiss had numerous chance to extend a hand to Whitley and she only did so once he’d proven that he could benefit her somehow.
We see the same issue with Ruby only thinking about breaking Qrow out of jail when she’s feeling directionless. Yang not giving a thought to her sister, the one she fought with and who is worried about her. The group all the way back in Volume 6 raising their weapons against Qrow for saying, “Hey.” The cruel dismissal of a man crying on his knees and then forgetting about him for months. Continually, I’m told by the story, “These characters all love each other!” but they often have a very strange way of showing it — and not in a way that the story intends to grapple with because they’re complex human and make mistakes.
...In retrospect though, this paints Team YJR in such a nice light. I mean, I still think it’s weird that we went from “Oscar who?” to “Who cares about Atlas? We need to save him!” with very little development in between (let alone any acknowledgement of the ethics here), but I’ll take feral Ren doing everything to save his farm boy over many of these other relationships.

RWBY: PROGRESS
Ruby: Okay let’s get down to business. Jaune you need to stop wondering off on your own. Do you not know how worried we get when you do that?
Jaune: Um okay.
Weiss: And since we’re on the subject, you need to stop training so hard, you’ll overexert yourself and you could get hurt.
Jaune: Alright then-
Blake: Next, please stop saying you’re worthless, we care about you.
Jaune: Thanks but-
Yang: Also, you need to move on man, there are plenty of fishes in the sea.
Jaune: Yes, true but hear-
Nora: You also need to smile more. Girls love a guy with confidence.
Jaune: Guys just hear me-
Ren: You’re very tense, you need to stretch and relax more.
Jaune: Ren, everyone please-
Oscar: And may-
Jaune: OKAY! Can you all stop scolding me for one moment and let me speak!!
RWBYNRO: …*nods*
Jaune: *sigh* Look Ruby, Yang, I’ve been training with your uncle, and right now this is my relaxing day. Which I am required to take even if I don’t want to. Why? Because Qrow realized I train too much, so, he made a rule that states, I can’t work out during a non-training day. And if break said rule, then best believe there’s hell to pay. *stretching arms* Man still sore after that last punishment.
Yang: Wait how does Qr-
Jaune: Ms. Calavera. She’ll let me slide, but only on a blue moon when it comes to learning about dust.
Ruby: Hmm.
Jaune: Next after all that’s happened, I rather just talk to someone. I’ve been hanging out with Flint and Neon. And sometimes, I talk to Illa.
Blake: Illa? When?
Jaune: We talked back at Mistral. She wasn’t easy to approach though. I send her letters sometime. I also been writing Saph and Terra, mainly to apologize for their involvement in stealing the airship.
Nora: Wow. That’s-that’s great, you’re making progress.
Ren: Amazing.
Yang: *hugging Jaune* Glad you’re getting better.
Weiss: Splendid!
Blake: Well done. We knew you could do it.
Jaune: (Then what was the point in nagging me?) *see Ruby still worried* Okay, crater face, fine, no promises, but I’ll try my best not to make you worry. However, you have to stop acting so reckless yourself sometimes.
Ruby: *smiles and hugs him as well* Okay, I’ll settle for that. I’m proud of you. And if she were here, she would say the same thing.
Ruby and the others began to leave, well, all except for Oscar, who was stopped by Jaune.
Jaune: Mind if I talk to you.
Oscar: Um. Sure.
Oscar sit next to Jaune as he pulls his scroll out.
Oscar: *confused* What are you doing?
Jaune: Showing you something. *pulls up his photo album and shows Oscar*
Oscar: *looks and see’s a girl in the photo with Jaune* Is she-
Jaune: Yes. A faunus.
Oscar: When?
Jaune: We’ve been talking for a few weeks, but we’re not there yet. I’m playing it smooth. Can’t have another Weiss or Pyrrha problem.
Oscar: Why are you telling me this?
Jaune: First, partner, I trust you. Second, I don’t want any of them in my business especially Blake considering she’s a faunus. Third, no one, will believe you. *gets up and pats Oscar’s shoulder* Good talk.
Jaune leaves the room, so he can continue his break, while Oscar processes what happened.
Oscar: Partner? He called me his partner. He called me his partner. *nods* Yeah. Yeah this- this is a win for me.
