And I'm back on my bullshit assigning listeners various jobs/hobbies! This one came to me in a prophetic vision, would you believe.
Astronomer Lovely
A Lovely who loved the night with everything they had. Who would stay up and watch the stars until they fell asleep, and would go to the best spots to stargaze (maybe that's why they were at Wonderworld, because it had a great view of the stars)
A Lovely who had the stars be the only constant in their life, the only thing assured and safe, despite being millions of miles away. It was oftentimes the only thing they had left. It was far more stable than anything they had on the ground.
A Lovely who loved the night for what it held, the stars, and now loves it for who it holds, Vincent.
They believe in astrology, not even as a joke. The first thing they asked Angel was what their star sign was, and Angel told them immediately. They would have asked Vincent the same thing on first meeting him, but they were, well-
Due to their vampire senses, specifically eyesight, normal telescopes don't really work the same way; Lovely can essentially see inside the inner mechanisms of the telescope. Vincent knew this and got a specifically designed telescope commissioned for them, gifting it to them on their anniversary.
When they were kidnapped by Adam, in that closed off bit of Wonderworld, there was a crack in the wood. If they looked through it at just the right angle they could see the stars, smiling down at them. At some point when they'd woken up from a black out, they opened their eyes and saw those stars for the first time. It was the most beautiful thing they'd ever seen. Their body felt so numb and their mind so exhausted that for a precious moment it felt like they were floating among the cold, inky darkness of space, that they were consumed by the grandeur of the cosmos. Adam steps in front of them. The stars are gone. They are back on solid ground. Something crackles underhand.
Date night at an observatory. DATE NIGHT AT AN OBSERVATORY. I'm sorry for yelling but DUDE. Having regular, cutesy picnic dates is difficult for vampires, so they grab a picnic basket and set up under the stars.
There's a company that finds the star map of a specific place at a specific time. The company can put the star map onto a poster or, more importantly, a necklace. Needless to say, Vincent and Lovely have matching necklaces of the star map from the day they first met. (Or from the day Vincent proposes to them PLEASE ERIK)
Their favourite star is the Alpha Crucis star, which is part of the Crux constellation. (I chose this constellation for them because their series with Vincent was the "crux" of everything; they were the first listener, they were the first video on the channel. They were the beginning of everything)
Lovely calling Vincent the brightest star in their sky. Saying the silver in his eyes looks like stardust. These two are so in love I HATE IT

I was rambling on the issue of museums and human remains and how certain populations are more likely to have their bodies put on display to be gawked at and then went "well I guess the Pompeii casts were of Europeans. there are bones in there right?" and Googled it to make sure, at which point I confirmed that yes there are bones in there, but more interestingly DNA testing revealed that a cast of an adult holding a child everyone assumed was a mother and child were, in fact, a man and a kid entirely unrelated to him. Honestly that's more moving to me. Maybe they were connected in a way other than blood, but maybe a stranger saw a child when the world was ending and thought the one thing he could do was hold them.

to be perfectly honest i think that ghosts being transluscent and faded is kind of antithetical to what they represent. they're an echo that cannot move on, cannot fade out - they should be oversaturated and stiff and strangely out of place and unchanging, like something preserved in clear glass.

The funniest thing Stranger Things could do is reveal that Steve’s parents are like, really liberal. They donate to AIDs research. They were arrested protesting the Vietnam War. They campaigned for Mondale. Steve tells them that Nancy broke up with him and they’re like, “Thank god, that family believes in Reaganomics.”

what's with the weird glorification of smoking that's come back lately
like
I've seen so many posts that paint opposing smoking as some impossibly Loser-ish or puritanical stance and I really don't get it
it makes you, your house, and your clothing stink, destroys your teeth, and gives you lung cancer. opposing it is. Correct. obviously addiction is very complicated and quitting can be hard, but just saying "smoking is gross and harmful as a practice (including vaping)" is True and Right actually
some of you have never grown up hearing about how some beloved family member died a slow, agonized, wasting death of smoking-induced cancer, or watching it firsthand for yourself, and it shows

I don't know how strictly accurate this is, but one of the things I find shocking about watching historical dramas is how many people there are around all the time---according to Madame de... (1953) a well-off French household in the Belle Epoque maintains a workforce of at least 3, and the glittering opera has staff just to open doors. According to Shogun (2024) you can expect a deep bench just to mind your household, and again, people who exist to open doors.
Could people....not open doors in the past? Were doors tricky, before the standardization of hinges? Because otherwise, the wealthy used to pay a whole bunch of people to do it for them in multiple contexts, and I find myself baffled.
