Hi Your Majesty Elodie! I have a somewhat amusing story for you:
So, I was at a Family Dinner just last night, and — as one does — the conversation happened to be circling the subject of Medieval Creatures. (Spit dogs, at the time.) I mentioned a bit of Horse Knowledge that I picked up from your jockeyposting, and my father casually said, "You actually have horse racers in your family."
Which. Demanded further ecplanation.
Apparently, one of my great-great-grandfathers was a harness racer. (This is also on the side of my family that includes obscenely wealthy silversmiths, a WWII airship gunner, and possibly (although this one may just be family apocrypha) Davy Crockett's sister. They're just kinda like that.)
So. Thank you, Mr. Cillian, for revealing that in an alternate timeline I, too, may have been trapped in the Horse Vortex, and a question for you: does Killie's family include any wild curveballs?
(Killieposting)
Oh my, that’s so funny and cool! I love that kind of thing! Congratudolences.
The immediate dynasty are portrayed here, and not finalised, there being more b-generation uncles and c-generation cousins I haven’t added. The main point is that the Properties, which they’ve fought like tigers to accumulate, and thus the influence, travels down the elder sons; Bren&Blaw thus being more influential (having more horses) than poor Bernard (practically horseless).
Tumblr media
In this specific snapshot there’s no real surprises, as they all have done exactly what was expected and lived mostly-blameless horsey lives.
There is a mystery, in Albert’s wife Catherine, grandmother of The Boys. She came from nowhere, and there is no paperwork. She answered no questions. The kids remember being a bit of a Thing about the previous-generation’s equivalent of Bren’n’Blaw, the Family Fixers, having arranged some mildly dodgy false passport for her or something.
She said her birthday was January 1. Like a racehorse.
She was a very very pretty woman, seemingly much younger than Albert (birthdate unknown) and had been classically trained as a musician.
Charlie’s perennial distraction with music was always tolerated, and even mildly encouraged, being “just like his grandmother was.”
For a family obsessed with racehorse pedigree/provenance it was A Bit Weird and Increasingly So As You Think About It. One of those weird things that you reflect on later, adding up dots, convening with cousins. Like, it wasn’t like it was The Old Days, it was like…. The 1960s or something ??
Boring explanation: she was a Protestant from over the border who got divorced, and they buried it.
Twee Explanation Specifically for Pissing Charlie off: fairy wife from under the hill lmao
Unlikely given the circumstances but perfectly possible explanation: Traveller, no paperwork, never was.
Probable Explanation: abusive marriage, Albert and his siblings arranged a convenient death for the husband and nipped the wife away but didn’t fancy explaining themselves
Anyway, one single mystery: woman from nowhere, racehorse birthday.

thinking about haikaveh's relationship from the archon quest to a parade of providence being based upon misunderstandings and kaveh actively wanting to avoid confrontation with alhaitham, or disparaging him
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then from a parade of providence onwards, kaveh actively seeking out conversation with alhaitham, feeling comfortable enough to recount his day, drink wine and share snacks together, voluntarily studying together as they had done in the past, calling their shared house a 'home', and going out of his way to search for alhaitham just to tell him about something interesting that happened
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
their gradual progression has led to them becoming equal companions, and it feels so so deserving - especially with them being perceived as a unit: a unique, exceptional pair (thank you sethos)

actually more to say re: that quote about carmen being the "female don giovanni" -- which tbf to some extent I get why someone would say that, given that the way they change lovers often and the way they view love in general have some similarities. however.
there's the low-hanging fruit of carmen and don giovanni not being the female/male versions of each other simply because don giovanni constantly uses his status and power as a nobleman to get away with whatever he wants to do to anyone of a lesser social standing, and carmen (despite the influence she has over some men due to their infatuation with her) still has a much lower status and much less power in the world compared to don giovanni because of her gender, ethnicity, and class.
but then there's the issue with the "don giovanni and carmen would both rather die than not be true to themselves" interpretation of the ending of each opera too. and while I think that can be true for carmen I don't think it's at all true for don giovanni. don giovanni lies, disguises himself, goes back on his word, misleads people constantly throughout the opera -- in carmen's entrance recitative and aria she tells other characters and the audience exactly her approach to love, and the rest of the opera proves that she was being honest.
carmen can sometimes be playful and vague, or refuse to tell other characters what they want to know (as in the arrest scene), and her thoughts and emotions shift rapidly, but she doesn't lie or pretend to be a completely different person the way don giovanni does. carmen IS actually true to herself until her death, don giovanni doesn't even feel like he has a self to be true to.

Does this orc romance journey mean we might get orc 141 and reader thoughts???
See now I think the way the 141 lures in a nice human woman to fuck would be that not all of them are orcs.
Ghost and Soap are and they are mean looking fuckers. Ghost is covered in battle scars and is just unimaginably huge, Soap is so clearly a warrior with how his hair is shaved at the side with the top braided in a fighter's style.
But Price is a rough yet regal looking human man, the kind that is contracted to act as a guard for nice, noble women. Elven Gaz had thought it would be how they'd find a woman for all of them, that one of these nobles would take Price's eye and they could steal her away. After all he may enjoy how rough his three companions are, but part of him still misses a gentler touch, a more feminine energy to balance it all out.
It is not a noble woman in the end. There is one Price thinks to test, to introduce to his orcs. He doesn't love her, but she certainly is pretty to look at and perhaps the haughty arrogance might please his elf (it would not, Gaz is not much like his kin in taste).
Imagine Soap's surprise when he goes to grab this woman as Price is making a show of fighting off Ghost to see her reaction and he ends up with a knitting needle jammed into his side by her quiet mouse of a ladies maid. He is in love just from that, even as Ghost drags him away so Price can look the conquering hero he is twitterpated entirely, holding the bleeding wound in his side in a lovers caress.
Price pays attention to this maid afterwards having never truly looked her way before. He finds her clever, witty and scrappy as all hell. She is not the delicate beauty of her mistress but he comes to find his heart starts to race at the sight of her anyway. He discovers she grew up the eldest of 10 children to a poor family and that this position was one she clawed her way up to in order to support them as best she could. She makes such a good ladies maid because she can more or less do everything. It's her resourcefulness he falls for, how any task she is given she will find a way to deliver and not expect praise or adulation.
Gaz can't help but be curious when Price talks about her and decides to verify these claims, visiting the family home to find she was truthful. Her younger siblings are fascinated by his ears while her parents try to do their best to be worthy hosts of a visiting elf. They are crude peasants, their hovel small and messy and the food they serve not fit for even the lowest elf. But somehow he cannot help but feel such a pang of warmth from how they treat him like family even though he is only a stranger who was passing by and asked for shelter. He does not need to meet the girl to fall in love with her, he only needs to hear how her family talks about her.
It drives Ghost into a foul mood as the months go on and all his mates can fucking talk about is some useless human girl. He never wanted a woman with them, was rather hoping they'd get over this notion eventually. He means to ruin her, breaking into her room by cover of night and holding her to the bed while he undoes his trousers. He tries to shove himself down her throat and she damn near bites his prick off. Bloody mouthed and scowling she fights her fear and will not submit as he assumed she would so easily. He barks at her about how he will bloody her cunt with his now bloody cock. He does not in the end, only because he falls for her the moment she barks back that she will bite his bloody cock clean off even while he can scent the flood of arousal between her legs from the idea of him taking her. He decides then that he will have this human woman only when she begs for him and he will do whatever he damn well must to make that happen.

i somehow doubt that the noldor didn't tell the sindar about the first kinslaying out of malice. they weren't rubbing their hands with glee, cackling and mwa-ha-ha-ing, they weren't trying to sneak into the sindar's good graces to betray them all or whatever the fuck. i think it was more -
it can't have been deliberate. they were the children of a world without death, part of a culture that holds slaying another elf as the worst crime a person can commit, only one of them had ever raised a weapon at someone else in anger before. i think here, before their doom proper even began, the idea wouldn't have even occured to them; if it did, it would have been dismissed out of hand as obviously insane. i suspect what happened is that fëanor came up with some ridiculous cockamamie plan to steal the ships - literally to steal them, like they were going to sneak into the harbour, climb aboard the ships, and sail away without anyone noticing somehow - and of course they were discovered almost immediately, and then -
the sky was dark for the first time in almost all of their lives. as far as anyone knew, the entire world was ending, and a ton of people - on both sides - had grabbed sharp things in case of giant spider. everyone was on the edge of panic, negotiations had conclusively broken down and yet nobody was backing down, the valar were conspicuously absent, nobody could see worth a damn without the trees, nobody really knew what was happening -
that, to me, doesn't sound like the army of professional soldiers the noldor aren't yet massacring innocent fisherfolk. that sounds like the kind of situation where, if they had guns, someone would have fired a shot, and no one would ever find out who
it's chaos. the noldor somehow get out of there with the swan-ships, but not a single one of them could tell you how it happened. they don't even really start processing what they've done until they're already fleeing up the coast in a disorganised mob, and then...
children of a world without death. born to a culture that holds kinslaying as its highest taboo. there is no possible way the realisation they had just barrelled over every ethical law they had didn't hit them as hard as the trees going out
so no, i'm not surprised they didn't volunteer this information to the sindar. i mean can you imagine opening relations with thingol with this partially it's the guilt, partially it's the shame, partially it's the fact that the first thing they did on their heroic quest to reclaim their stolen masterworks was somehow actual kinslaying, that's gotta do a number on your self-image, partially... i think they were still having trouble processing it, especially early on. how do you come to terms as a culture with having done something like this, when nothing like this has ever happened before?
(and maybe - they're never going back, right? mandos was pretty clear they'd never be welcomed in valinor again, and the teleri probably aren't gonna come chasing after them seeking vengeance. whatever... that was (because they don't have a name for it, not really, everyone who knows about it was either there or learned about it while the blood (don'tthinkabouttheblood) was still drying, how do you even give a name to such a crime?) all its consequences are on the other side of the sundering sea, and chances are they'll stay there)
(so maybe. maybe if they don't mention it. maybe it can stay back in valinor, with the valar and tirion and everything else they'll never see again)
(maybe, it'll be like it never happened at all)

sometimes people ask me how I doodle so fast or like how I come up with so many things to draw and I don’t really have an answer for them I just go. I just start. maybe tho that Is an answer - when I’m doodling I don’t consider any one doodle to be “worth” hardly anything, because it’s a doodle, I’m just making stuff and I make stuff all the time so this godzilla is the same as this tiny squashed drawing of a stick figure so i don’t need to pay special attention to godzilla so i only realize its not too shabby when im Done drawing him. does that make sense? I don’t get hung up on making one drawing good because they’re all equally just fun stuff to me. so I fill the entire page
