Noriel would either get mischaracterized as a sassy angry and aggressive character or the exact opposite, a wholesome little baby who is harmless and needs rescuing.
I dont like either equally please my character has nuance please I swear, please dont narrow her down just because she has trauma and reacts to it in the only ways she knows. She's not aggressive for snapping when she feels threatened and she's not a harmless baby for accepting help and love. I could also see her being mischaracterized by being narrowed down to just her trauma and the things that have happened to her and I think that would make me explode. That could end up going in so many different directions and every single one I fear. Oh god and her relationship with Dawn too, god I fear it ALL with this caracter.
Kana worries me too, I think people see her as a perfectly good and nice character who just wants to give love and other characters should just accept it.
People seeing her as the perfect picture of goodness and morality are falling for her very purposeful facade. Which I guess in part I write it that way on purpose yes but it just has me worried that if people fall for it too hard, once we reach *That Scene* everyone will do a 180 and mischaracterize her as a dangerous lying bitch who is so unstable and mentally ill that she's beyond saving and needs to be put down or something. I swear if people see her character and conclude something like "so she did actually have some innate desire to hurt people this whole time!" I will literally cry.
tldr; I'm afraid people will not know how to handle mentally ill characters but I have read enough comic comment sections to know the drill.
my bad if you've done this prompt before but!! assuming your oc has their own fandom, how would the fandom mischaracterize / stereotype them?
plain text: assuming your oc has their own fandom, how would the fandom mischaracterize / stereotype them?

DP x DC ficlet
is it even a ficlet anymore, this thing has gotten incredibly out of hand...
So a while back I saw this
and I picked the Green Lantern one and then just kinda wrote a full fic so...
It had been a good party, official yes but despite that still festive enough and with just a bittersweet hint. as all good meaningful parties should be like, unless youâre looking to get absolutely shitfaced.
But hey Rowan deserved a proper sendoff for making it to this point and not dying in the process. Hal is going to miss the old pilot though.
"Hal, I got something for you, before I forget"
"Hm, what is it"
The old man puts a small intricate glass model of a f16 fighter in his hand.
"Back when I started I was given this for good luck and protection"
Rowan presses it down firmly and stands there all official like "may it grant you both as it did for me"
They both stand there for a second before laughing.
âFeel free to shelf the whole luck thing, whatâs really important is skill and experience. Still, knowing you, you can definitely use the protection â
Hal grins, "Thanks, I'll keep close"
"You better, the sentimental value is sky high" Rowan slaps his shoulder with another laugh.
Good lord what a dork.
The old retiring pilot wasn't paying attention, too caught up in everything else but Hal saw the faint and brief green hue coming from his hand.
In a panic he slammed his other hand over top. Completely missing the quietly whispered "protect"
Too busy cussing out his ring in his head, he swears that thing is trying to out him on purpose sometimes.
This time it wasn't the ring though, so it's a good thing it's an inanimate object and can't be upset at how wrong Hal is being right now.
"Everything alright?"
"Yeah! Let's get back to the others"
The evening ends uneventfully.
---
It's really only until quite a bit later that things start to happen.
"Green lantern" its batman's business voice.
Both Hal and John look up.
"Jordan" ah shit.
"I'll catch you up later" and he leaves Hal behind, traitor.
"What's up spooky"
"You need to update your file, it is missing critical information, and on that note I wasnât aware that the lantern suits grant you intangibility now"
"I... what..? It doesn't? What are you talking about spooks"
"Hrn" Batman pulls up a screen and shows him footage of the latest fight, in it you can clearly see something was supposed to hit Hal but went right through him "You're telling me you didn't know or notice this?"
Hal just looks kinda sick. That would have been a bad hit and he just straight up didn't even notice.
Batman just kind of silently looks at him and he must have come to some conclusion because the next thing Hal knows this comes out of his mouth.
"I've already ran your blood through the lab, it's not a sudden emergence of a meta gene so it's either from the lantern corps or you've otherwise externally been affected by something that's causing this"
Hal closes his eyes and internally counts to ten, it doesn't help.
Batman takes his silence to mean he can keep talking. The man is on an unusual roll. Hal would have been ecstatic if he didn't hate the topic quite so much.
"It would have been best if it had something to do with your ring however you seem to be completely unaware and I've also noted that the green of your ring and the green glow that comes with the density shifting are different"
He has examples with corresponding color codes, Hal is so tired.
âlet's set a time frameâŠâ Batman pulls up some documents and graph on the screen âseeing as you are unaware of this development I will set the starting point of this potential change as of now to right after the last time you have been known to be hit in a fight and before the first known instance of you being able to density shift, that leaves us with a full month.â
Hal really, really does not want to be here anymore.
âIn this month you have not gone off planet so whatever caused this is on Earthâ Batman pauses for a moment, âhas anything significant happened during that time that springs to mind now?â
âno, nothing significant has happened during that time, frankly itâs been a very pleasant uneventful four weeks in which I finally managed to catch a break and it figures something crazy has apparently happened anywayâ
Hal rubs his face with both hands, âbut right now I couldnât tell you what, anyway, does this have to be a bad thing? I for one am very glad that hit didnât actually landâ
âSo far only Superman has had the privilege of having sudden emergence of new powers work out for himâ Batman huffs, âit would be best to monitor this carefully, if anything springs to mind do not hesitate to inform me, the sooner this is figured out the betterâ
âawww you do careâ Hal is using humor cope, sadly itâs Batman, so itâs not very effective.
âJordanâ now Batman sounds tired, heâs not the one with random surprise density shifting, Hal understand that Spookyâs crippling chronic paranoia must be exhausting but right now heâs the one freaking out considering this is apparently not a meta gene related development, it would have been so much easier if it was, oh and about that, just how and when did Batman get his blood exactly? he would like to know now.
---
sadly he does not get to know now. or anytime soon (or ever). itâs chaos right after, because of course it is.
knocked out of the sky and lying amongst the rubble, if their enemy spots him heâs in bigger shit than he already is, but he canât fucking move and the next thing he knows heâs invisible.
and there is just nothing enjoyable about it.
Barry doesnât know that though, âthat was something else, just one moment and schwup and you were just gone, some sort of green lantern light bending? he looked right through you, thank god he did tooâÂ
shit shit, âno that was..." it was like he just ceased to exist, movies and books and whatever other media always depicts it as such a cool thing but frankly it was terrifying. And he would prefer things that are terrifying not to happen to him, for obvious reasons, âhonestly actually itâs complicated, stealth techâ Grade A bullshit.
âwell itâs awesomeâ
âit was useful just now but not really my style you knowâÂ
Barry slings his arm over Halâs shoulder and gives him a one armed hug, âeverything worked outâ Hal can feel some tension flow out of his friend, âwell! better get busy cleaning this mess upâ and with a blink heâs gone.
Hal does not want to talk about this with Batman, but knowing him, he probably already knows anyway, it would be less of a headache to go to him than have him go to Hal.Â
Hal wants to enjoy whatever this is, he really does, but he doesnât know what caused this, he doesnât know what triggers the new abilities or whatever they are, he doesnât know what effects this shit is going to have in the future, he just doesnât know anything, normally he doesnât mind not knowing some things, heâs fine leaving the knowing to the people better suited for the more complicated knowing, but he would very much like to know more about this please.
---
Then they face off against an enemy and in the process Hal drains his ring completely and the next hit is going to be bad, so what will happen? Will he somehow go intangible again? Turn invisible and use the confusion to evade and attack?
No
Apparently this time he just gets a glowing green dome shield. Something very normal for him to have and use, if only it came out of his ring that is.
Nobody notices that something is wrong, nobody besides Batman that is.
"That's three new abilities that only appear during life threatening situations"
Hal has actually seriously gone over that month by now, but nothing, no answers. He's physically fine, mentally a little damaged but nothing new there, they all are. Every test he begrudgingly went through answered nothing. He was fine. Whatever was going on actually had nothing to do with him.
And at the same time it had everything to do with him because this is only happening to him.
As usual (by now) he takes out his little glass fighter jet and runs his thumb over the wings. It is soothing strangely enough. Like a stim toy.
"The last thing to try is a thorough examination by someone from the justice league dark"
Hal groans, magic, ok then, "Alright let's get this over with. Who knows maybe I'm just haunted"
It turns out heâs not haunted, this is a good thing... supposedly, Well letâs just say that Hal would have not minded being haunted or something if that meant it could be fixed, or just explained.
It doesnât really need to be fixed, whatever this is has been very helpful after all, but he would do basically anything for an explanation right about now.
âyou are not haunted or otherwise magically compromised, but I do sense faint traces of energy from the infinite realmsâ Zatanna is a godsent, finally something to work with.
âfrom the who whats?â Hal is worried, the occult field is definitely not his area of expertise. He's a space cop, not a space demonhunter⊠oh that would be pretty cool though, with like a hood and twin cyber crossbows, maybe he should incorporate that somehow.
âthe infinite realms⊠have you recently been in touch with any death related realities?â
Well there was that time when he got booted to the death universe and he died and then he was a black lantern but he got better, thatâs all very much very behind him.
She better not be about to tell him that stuff still has lingering consequences.
oh god dammit thatâs exactly what is going on isnât it?
"How recently?"
"In the past week?"
"Oh, no" Hal would have known if that was the case, death stuff tends to be hard to ignore.
Zatanna frowns, that's probably not a good sign.
"But you said I'm not compromised right?" Right now what Hal wants to know the most is if this is changing him. Cause it tends to be bad for him when that's the case.
"No this is just lingering traces of something or someone else using their powers near you"
???!!??!?
"What are the infinite realms?" oh hey there Batman, was wondering when you would show up again.
"It's the afterlife, or... more like a collection of all afterlives. The infinite realms is very literal in their naming. It is home to powerful dead entities. As a general rule magic users are discouraged from interacting with it.
"Hrn"
"What did you say happened to you so far Hal?"
"Uhm, density shifting, invisibility and then a green dome-like shield, a lot like my own energy constructs"
"that sounds like pretty standard stuff for a realms being"
"Soooo what, did one leave the afterlife and decide to follow me around or something?"
"I cannot conclusively say, I can only say that you've been close to one using its abilities"
Batman folds his arms over his chest, "We shouldnât form theories on these findings alone, Zatanna are these realm beings dangerous?"
"Hard to say, they come in all manner of forms, some small and harmless and others on the level of world destroying gods."
Great great great, awesome, well itâs probably safe to say that whatever decided to stick around Hal isnât small and harmless, cause small and harmless doesnât sound strong enough to casually turn him intangible or invisible⊠he could be wrong though.
âI do advise caution, beings from the infinite realms also have the ability to possess someone, they call it overshadowingâ
Batmanâs lips thin and Hal tenses up, mind control of any kind is always awful.
âIâll place a ward on you, as a precautionâ energy starts to gather in her hands.
Batman moves for the door, âwe might need to look into a way to force this being to reveal itself, it would be best if we could convince it to return to their realmâ
âWell I mean-â Hal starts, âlike I get that, but they have been a great help so farâÂ
âthey are a security riskâ
âIâm just saying, I am grateful that they kept me from being confined to the medical wing for who even knows how long, who knows they might just be shy, wouldnât it be better to convince them to become our ally, like Deadman. instead of telling them to leave. just cause we donât understand how they work yet doesnât mean they are bad and should be booted out of our realityâ
Batman narrows his eyes at Hal and turns to Zatanna who is finished with placing the ward on Hal, âZatanna please send me all you have on the infinite realms, I will do my own researchâ and with that he sweeps out of the room, very dramatic.
âAssâ Hal whispers under his breath.
âHeâs worriedâ
âwell heâs being a dick about it, as usualâ Halâs fingers find his little plane once again â... hey do you think they could communicate through one of those oejah boards?â
Zatanna snorts, âitâs Ouija- and please donâtâ
---
No information from the JLD has been useful so far in coaxing the realms being to reveal themselves and for the most part things just go on as usual.
âWhoever they are, they followed me when I went off planet and it might just be my imagination but I had a feeling that their stuff was a lot more⊠potent? out there? I donât know it was kinda strange, it just felt strongerâ
âbut they didnât reveal themselves to you?â
ânope, they must know that I know now too, so they have decided to just⊠go on as they always have I guessâ
âhrnâ Batman is leafing through files, because of this whole mess heâs uncovered hidden government organizations targeting occult entities as well as inhumane laws that stand directly opposed to the meta protection acts.
Why is he working with paper regarding this matter? Well it turns out there is a infinite realms being that can possess electronica and it was only because of the protections the JLD had put in place on the Watchtower that the entity didnât overtake it in its entirety.
Watching Constantine freak out had been mildly entertaining but Zatanna had once again reminded Batman to be very careful, Batman had begrudgingly admitted he had made a slight misstep while digging for answers⊠in his head, not out loud, god forbid.
âthis whole thing is turning out a lot bigger than we thought huh, good thing we are dealing with it nowâ Hal stretches his arms above his head, âanyway I am going to go grab something to eatâ
âthe rapport-â Batman doesnât bother looking at him.
âyeah yeahâ Hal doesnât either while walking out of the room, dismissively flicking his hand, âdonât worry about it spookyâ
Hal takes his little plane out on the way to the cafeteria and fiddles with it in his hand, once there he puts it on the table next to Barry before getting himself something to eat.
They catch up, Hal complains (bitches) about Batman, others come and go, Zatanna quickly checks up on the ward she placed which makes Barry raise an eyebrow at Hal, âGhost protectionâ
â... no such thingâ
Zatanna glares.
Hal can see them both gearing up to start the magic is just science we havenât fully scienced out yet argument again, âalright! Iâm fullâ he stands up, âif you need me Iâll be writing that rapport, laterâ and gets the hell out of there.
Itâs when he has just reached his preferred spot to work on the boring paperwork stuff when the alarms go off throughout what he can only imagine must probably be the entire Watchtower.
It seems like something triggered all of the JLDâs defenses in one go.
Impressive, but also very worrying.
The rapport is going to have to wait.
People are gathering in the meeting room and Batman is already taking the lead, âstatusâ
âas of a couple minutes ago there was a build up of as of yet unknown energy which then burst in the cafeteria knocking out Flashâ Martian Manhunter says, âZatanna says we are most likely dealing with another being from the infinite realmsâ
Superman groans, this means heâs out.
Itâs a good thing they now have defenses against overshadowing though. Being effectively trapped in a space station (because currently the thing is on lockdown) where literally anyone could suddenly actually be the enemy is the kind of situation a whole slew of horror movies like to be about.
âWe will need to be extremely careful while finding and then dealing with this entityâ
It has certainly been quite some time since the Watchtower got directly hit like this.
Hal pulls out his little plane.
or, he would, if he still had it.
thoroughly distracted now he suddenly realizes itâs no longer on his person.
Spooky is probably not going to like it if during the infinite realms attacker hunt he takes the opportunity to look around for his missing little fighter jet.
well what he doesnât know wonât harm him.
His plan of looking for the plane while looking for the ghost is working out well enough.
In fact it is working out so good that he finds both at the same time.
At that point Hal had started wondering if maybe Barry had picked it up for him at the cafeteria before the attack happened and that the little thing was now in the medical wing with him.Â
That turned out to clearly not be the case once he found the tiny thing glowing green and floating in the middle of the hallway.
âalright ghosty, thatâs really important to me and I would like it back undamagedâ
the tiny plane turned to now point directly at him, hmm, yeah that's not creepy at all.
â... please donât launch yourself at meâ he foolishly says which of course means thatâs exactly what it does next.
He uses his ring to construct a net with a pillow inside to catch the tiny jet, completely forgetting that itâs overshadowed and can thus easily just go intangible and right through his creations.
Instead it hits him square in the chest, rather painfully he might add and then just stops glowing and drops, making Hal scramble to not have it fall and shatter in a million tiny pieces on the ground.
immediately all the sensors stop detecting the presence of a realms being and the alarms die down.
Whatever was in the Watchtower has left the building.
orâŠ
Hal looks down at the tiny plane in his hands, his talisman of protection and has a sinking feeling in his gut.
âHey there little guy, might want to explain yourself?â he says to the tiny jet.
It vibrates in his hands.
â... yeah I figured, shitâ
---
âI say just smash the bloody thing and be done with it, preferably that takes care of it once and for allâ Constantine glares down at the tiny jet.
Hal is almost halfway over the table to shield the little thing, covering it from Constantineâs sight with his hand, âdonât you dareâ he growls.
âit would be best for everyone involved, for all we known you could have gone full liminal what with how long youâve been carrying the blasted thing aroundâ
Zatanna is going over the little thing with her own magic, âitâs trappedâ
âIn that case just straight up trying to murder it would be the worst thing to doâ Hal glares at Constantine some more. Who clearly doesnât give a shit, figures, all stressed out about dealing with things from the infinite realms but whenever he feels he has the upper hand heâs more than happy to go full nuclear.
âit would be best if we had a way of figuring out their intentionsâ Batman looks down at the tiny jet impassively.
âWell, another reason to just carefully release this creature insteadâ Hal responds.
Zatannaâs magic fades away, âI would say that the fact itâs been protecting Hal for as long as he has it is a positive signâ
âhrn, but now it has gone and knocked Flash out, so what does that sayâ Batman huffs, âitâs too riskyâ
âConstantine and I will set up everything we can so it wonât be able to escape or try anything dangerousâ Zatanna stops looking at Batman and turns back to the tiny plane, âif it turns out to be malicious we could simply banish it back to the realms, killing it would be rather stupid, we do not know what kind of connections it might have within the realms, we might accidentally anger something far worse with such a rash actâ
Constantine groans but accepts Zatannaâs reasoning, Batman nods as well.
Itâs only then that Hal moves out of the way.
Any plans of attack or banishment fly right out of the window once the two magic users are done and a young boy manifests from the tiny fighter jet.
Hal pushes Constantine aside to get to the boyâs side.
âJordan, are you insane! Get back here!âÂ
âHey, kid, can you hear me? please open your eyes, slowly, take your timeâÂ
Batman has also moved forward much to Constantineâs frustration. Don't these two morons get that their protections wonât do shit if you just casually stroll into the circle?
Batman is mostly concerned in being able to step in should the boy prove to be a hostile entity anyway, but at the same time⊠well, thatâs a child.
The boy kind of dazedly opens his eyes, looks at Hal and then seems to become aware of his own arms and hands, after opening and closing those a couple times he looks back at Hal and lets out a breath that can only be described as relieved and promptly passes out into him.
Well, Hal figures that settles it then. He doesnât know shit about looking after a kid, and definitely not one who is probably quite dead, but this one is his, back off Batman.
they all startle rather violently when rings of blinding white light pass over the boy and suddenly the kid in Halâs arms is a bit warmer and seems to have a sluggish pulse and also his clothes are different and his hair is now black and-
Hal is up and moving towards the medical wing before his mind catches back up with him. He can hear Batman behind him, it seems like Constantine and Zatanna arenât moving after him as fast.
Well anyway his life is already so goddamn weird, this might as well happen.

Okay listen I lvoe the pjo books and series with all ym heart but.. everyone talks about them like they're perfect WHICH THEYRE NOT any problems are kinda brushed under the rug and I find thst kinda werid? Like you'll see other books and TV shows get dragged and canceled for the stuff in Riordan books and yet pjo doesn't?? So.. uhhHHHH yeah that's jsut something I noticed.
The weird relationshipd ynamics. Rick is like allergic to someone bring okay with being single or jsut aromantic like you can say Reyna but her having a crush kn Jason?? Yes she rejected Apollo but her relationship with Jason deterioted brcuz she had a 'crush' on the guy and that doesn't really amke sense to me (I can go into so much detail kn this)
AND LEO AND CALYPSO OMFG that is a toxic relationship. The age gap. The way calypso treats Leo. The fact Leo SHOULD NOT be with someone like this man hasn't dealt with his attachment and Abandonment issues like st all?!
The literal only black character in the pjo books being beckendorf.. then he dies. Then the Korean/Asian (I'm not sure sorry) character dies, Ethan. And like I understand Percy is hinted st being Hispanic (have seen many ppl talk about this dont mnow if it's common knowldhe) but it's never confirmed or added??? I know Rick fixes it later but it's still weird to me lmaoo
Rick unable to keep consistent personality. Woobigying Nico OH MY GOD NICO HE BECOMES GAY AND THSTS WHDT EVERYONE FUCKING FOCUSES ON AND HE SHOULD'VE NEVER GOTTEN WITH WILL ATLWAST NOT THAT QUICK it's not healthy. Their relationship was rushed and didn't make sense I felt like people only like ot becuz it's a gay relationship??
And oh mygodsâ Samirah. I am not Muslim and I am not an expert on the Nuslim religion but there is so much shitbthatbeas wrong in thst book that I even knew was incorrect and jsut weird to happen?! The AMOUNT OF TIMES HER HIJAB CAME OFF and I'm also like "yaayyyy representation" but it could've been as easy as one Google search. one.
Jason. Jason as a whole. He had the most potential out of ANYONE and personally I think he had more potential then Percy like his story is so INTERESTING and then.. Rick knocked him iut with a brick multiple times, didn't work kn his sotry or trauma at all, then KILLED HIM. Same with Ethan. I am so Vitter about these two.. HELL EVEN LEO AND FRANK.
Also the way he made Annabeth first quest (first quest SHE IS LEADING AND IS HER PROHECY) all about Percy. I was reading it and I was like "bitxhâ this is Annabeth Quest?!" LIKE he it pissed me off that Annabeth was swept to rhe side as Percy's lvoe interest giving her knly enough personality and stary to make her jnteredting enough to eb loved but never delving jntk it into Mark kf Athena and even at Mark of Athena it all rounded back tk her and Percy's relationship LIKE JESUS CHRIST DO THESE MFERS PASS THE BELLDAN TEST?!
The low key incest at the beginning ricj writing that all the demigods had the same impish features at rhe start and then.. jsut.. CHSNGING IT?!
Not letting a virgin goddess who has no history of having children have.. children.. NOW you may be wondering 'but then how would we get Annabeth?'â JUST GiVE ATHENA HER FAVOURITE CHOSEN PPL LIKE SHE DID WITH ODYSSEUS let her stay childless. Jsut let her choose some children she'd like as hers wonce they're Bron and she then blesses them as her heroes, that's how she treats them any way and it also gets rid of the incest?!
Also the fact it's implied that Annabeth is only smart becuz she's a child of Athena.. Rick made a virgin goddess technically have children so he can have a smart women character and that's just.. EuGGHHhHHh JUST LET HER BE SMART IT NOT THAT HARD "Oh, no, I'm not smart because Athena chose me.. Athena chose me because I was already smart" Smacks you with common fucking sense.
Also Annabeth ALWAYS needing to eb saves and its always done by a man. OMFG AND GROVES GF DHE HAS NO PERSONALITY OUTSIDE OF BEING SOEM GUSY GF EVEN THOUGH HES GONE FOR MKNTHS AND BAREKY CONTAXTS HER?!
The whole apheodite cabin. The whole aphrodite cabin. The whole aphrodite cabin.
The fact it's clear Rick doesn't think girly girls cant be strong or into fighting or able to wield a fuckign weapon. The way he makes nearly every girly girl into a total mean bitch or ruins their characters.

G Witch 18 thoughts
Hello, gwitch. You have no idea how painful it's been without your sweet, agonizing content. I'm asking you politely to never leave us like that again. Isn't it enough that Suletta is suffering, why you gotta do us dirty like that too?? Since we cleared that up, let's begin
This is the face of pure copium. God, those wide eyes unwilling to look at anyone else. That dumpster platter of terrible food choices. That artificial smile as she rambles about inconsequential bs. Yeah, that's divorced wifeguy behavior right there.
And Schwarzette finally debuts! It was hinted previously Jeturk had dealings with Shin Sei gundams but here it's confirmed. The suit isn't complete yet but close enough and only revealed to Guel after its commission. Prospera is so shameless and unrepentant. I suspect she enjoys toying with Mio in particular.
But Mio isn't considering war profiteering and staunchly refuses to announce the Schwarzette as a joint Jeturk/GUND-ARM weapon. She wishes to follow the pacifistic ideals of the original GUND. She's come far from the Miorine we see at the start. Really proud of our girl!
I adore that they remind us of her core motivation. Overtly, keeping her promise to Prospera in exchange for Suletta's 'freedom'. But also her promise to protect Suletta just as Suletta strove to fulfill her promises to Mio. It doesn't seem enough for either of them, but this is the cope episode.
Prospera is really dipping her fingers in all the pots to see if one's a winner. It's not unexpected she wouldn't bet everything on one horse, though for now she has the most sway with Miorine's faction and therefore insurance. Humoring Shaddiq's wish for Gundams makes sense if Mio fails the vote. Prospera is a master at improvising.
This scene was a fav. Love they stated outright Mio is falling into the same trap as Delling by deciding someone else's life without their say. Mio is sympathetic and wants Suletta freed from everything, but crucially misses what Suletta herself wants.
Her shame and regret has become a malignancy in the wake of 17. The girl's confidence was already low but now it's sunk into a black hole of internalized self-loathing. Suletta convinced herself she was never good enough and it was her fault from the start. WOOF
Ok WTF LAUDA. Way to stomp a girl while she's down. Idk what even the point was on his side. Catharsis? Petty revenge? Guel is back, the holder again, and Jeturk is saved. This was just unnecessary. I felt close to neutral on him after his reunion with Guel and talk with Mio but now I wish him a merry misery again. Kinda cool he thanked Chuchu though. Very weird he still has a hateboner for Suletta still.
Love you Chuchu. It's great that she was tired of Suletta moping around and acting like nothing was wrong. She said what we were all thinking and now Earth House is going on a field trip to see Mio. I love her philosophy of 'what would Nika do?'
Shame about what's actually happening with Nika
Speaking of Nika, she's currently watching the sparks fly between our resident shitheel 5lan and Norea. She'll have to bury them both at this rate. This convo was so good though as 5lan shows a rare bit of insight and lampshades their similarities. They're both empty tools. We also learn how Peil functions and it seems to be a meritocratic system with the real Elan Ceres at the top.
Mio is showing her Relena colors once again. Even if a show of force could potentially open negotiations like Prospera suggests, Miorine is committed to pacifism. Admirable, but will it work? Aiding earth would be the accomplishment they need to prove themselves to Benerit.
As an aside, I'm very tickled Guel has become Mio's lackey. He's so bullied, even if they do marry (Doubt) he's destined to be furniture. Man just doesn't have Suletta's inherent wifeguyness
I wish we could get a peek at Prospera's thoughts here. Does she find this childish? Nostalgic? Bitter, after everything she's experienced with GUND and Vanadis? Her mentor would love Mio, but Dr. Cardo is dead along with their original dream. I've said it elsewhere, but there's a terrific irony that Mio, the daughter of her killer, would uphold Cardo's ideals where her students failed.
Quick bits, Bel was arrested by the Space Assembly League (interesting swerve) and Martin spilled his guts to a Haro with Secilia eavesdropping (hilarious) Will Bel spill the tea on Prospera? Will Secilia reveal he sold out Nika? Digging these little micro dramas.
OH HI KENANJI. Honestly, he was probably the last person I expected to escort Mio but it makes perfect sense Rajan would send Dominicus to protect her. HOOoo I want him to talk with Prospera. If she trolls him the entire time or finds time to murk him that would be peak. I like his design and lax attitude but he's still a dirty corpo cop.
Oh Suletta. Even though she can fill her list and go to school in peace, she isn't happy. It's all empty now without Mio by her side. It's hard to watch but you're still heartened by how much she values her. Gay yearning đ„ș
Most of us knew it was coming but it feels so good to be vindicated. Repli-children sounds way cooler than clone. Gotta love nonsense sci-fi phrasing. That leaves HOW exactly this was done (I still sideeye Notrette personally) but that's one more mystery solved. Since they're all young and around Eri's age, you have to assume the failures wore on Elnora. This might explain her lack of significant emotional attachment to Suletta. After twelve iterations and only one success, you only have so many shits to give.
Damn, Eri. Everyone is taking the chance to suckerpunch Suletta while she's vulnerable. Still, she has the same motivations as Mio but they're giving Suletta everything but what she actually needs. Suletta craves validation and purpose. Freedom without those things is hell. Good intentions, terrible execution
Prospera is such a great character. You think you understand her but then she adds another facet to the mix. Whether this is a genuine sentiment or for Eri's benefit is unknown, but I like to think she's being truthful. It doesn't excuse her manipulation, gaslighting, or destruction of Suletta's family and sense of self but it's... something? An undoubtedly patronising sort of care and far from what she feels for Eri; all that's left of the loving Elnora we see in Prologue. But it makes her complex and not the mustache twirling villain you expect. Very good writing.
Stonecold to leave Suletta sobbing in space as everything she loves soars out of reach. I need her to wake up and smell the self-actualization coffee next episode. Mio might need it too if our intrepid peacemaker gets in over her head. But that is a tale for another week
That was certainly a GWitch episode. WE'RE BACK FOLKS

Dess theories?
Good question, but I honestly don't have a ton on her specifically. After all, we've barely seen this character.
She's like this posthumous character haunting the narrative, whether she's actually dead or not. She can't not be important in some major way. The question is simply, how?
I may not have thoughts on her specifically, but I do have thoughts about many things closely surrounding her. As well as things she reminds me of from UT. That post from earlier we both reblogged is absolutely correct to look for parallels there.
That post paralleled her more with Flowey, however. I'm more inclined to compare her to Chara the most. Someone else who really haunted the narrative, and only manifests fully under very specific circumstances.
Part of this reasoning is because I have a hard time thinking about Dess without also thinking about Kris. I may not be a fan of the theory of the player puppeteering Kris, but that doesn't mean I've ruled out Kris knowing things that we don't. After all, we've already seen this with Frisk. They know their name is "Frisk," it's just that nobody bothered to ask until the very end. I figure there's something similar with Kris, but in their case, the information is things they aren't too keen on just blurting out, even in private. Even with someone they really trust.
I'm basically of the mind that whatever happened to Dess, Kris was there for it. Or, at least, they were there for some part of it. This event would have also lead to Kris' current "possessed" state. As well as, potentially, their insular and skittish nature at the beginning of the story.
Which then, of course, leads me to believing that Dess is what is possessing Kris, much like how Chara can possess Frisk under specific (awful) circumstances. Like, even back in UT, well before DR was a thing, I always felt like the whole genocide Chara situation was trying to tell us... something, about the nature of humans. Or the nature of souls, human or otherwise. I was just never sure what.
... until we got DR. Now, I'm pretty sure that the end of genocide in UT was basically a prelude to whatever is going on with Kris. And the only candidate for "the Chara" in this situation that we know of, currently, is Dess. Though, this would kind of imply that she's just flat out dead?
This leads me to the way Noelle and the rest of Hometown talk about Dess. And a wrinkle in the above idea: they don't make it sound like she's dead. They make it sound like she's been missing for a long time. That's different. Now, granted, if she's been missing for long enough, people are probably going to just start assuming she's dead. But everyone in town is kinda avoiding admitting that outright, I think. Which does feel like a very "small town" piece of drama. So, yeah, Dess' "alive or dead" status is kind of in limbo at the moment. We know, of course, that there's a third option of her being wrapped up in the darkness in some weird way. But other characters interact with the dark worlds fine. So, even with that in mind, something very strange an unusual would have had to have happened to her.
So, yeah. Not much direct information on her besides vague hints at her interests, but there's certainly a lot surrounding her.
EDIT: I also haven't ruled out that "the Chara" in the Kris possession situation is someone or something else entirely. I just wanna make it clear I'm not, like, saying its 100% Dess. I don't really know. Also, maybe Dess really has been dead all this time, and we just end up finding out and confirming it. Which would be a pretty brutal move, though would also make her more likely to be "the Chara," rather than less.

(First of all before I yap about my theory: no hate to OP whatsoever. This mostly just reminded me of something me and my friends were pondering and wanted to share it because it might be relevant to this discussion of the story)
I don't think having magic is a stand-in for a priveleged class itself, more on the how people act about rare talent/skill/potential part. From what we've been told and shown so far, the position of mages in Twisted Wonderland is more like an allegory for something like artists and art students. Its not the mandatory kind of education/curriculum; pen wands and ink imagery and needing "imagination" to fuel their magic; and like irl while someone can start out with some artistic inclination, only few have the means to study/pursue it fulltime given the increasing tasks and less free time in the modernized world.
IIRC somewhere in Book 5 Trey hints that mage jobs are more and more replaced by modern technology: which reminds me of how artists now struggle to find funding/corporations replacing their jobs with AI as the cheaper alternative that still produces some kind of image/etc at the end of the day. (Overblots are also revealed in Book 6 to only happen to mages with "higher magic levels", so with the magic being ambition + skill potential allegory it kinda becomes a 'higher you go harder you fall' burnout thing)
Also important to consider: while Rollo did probably only want to wipe out magic and not people, his plan kinda doesn't really take into account species like fae (and possibly some mermen) whose lives are heavily dependent on magic. Book 7 shows through Lilia that a fae running out of magic will literally disable and then kill them, so his scheme if not stopped would still accidentally kill countless people. Even if it didn't reach Briar Valley just succeeding in further harming Malleus it would seriously devastate the nocturnal fae who are already just at the start of recuperating from a 400~ year warđ The plan was always gonna have worse consequences than he would care for
Going back a bit, the lore that Malleus and Lilia drop in Book 6 after the overblotters are forcibly taken to STYX also implies that mages being accepted and seen as having commodifiable powers is a relatively recent historical development, they used to be called something like 'witches' and mostly lived kinda secretly. That's the label Iron Soldiers use for Meleanor when they find her powers (or form) intimidating and hard to understand.
Although, since they were seemingly chill with the help of diurnal fae through the Dawn Knight, its more that most magic belonged to people (fae, human and otherwise alike) who were different from most, and that they therefore couldn't just control (under the guise of a collective good) and that's why it became so feared and resented.
This could connect to the lyrics of Piece of My World/theme of TWST in general in encouraging individuality and some selfishness regarding how one goes about their own magic (ambitions). Also how being unable to reconcile differences in goals or etc causes people to clash. So it would be unsurprising if what happened was: once mainstream society found a way to integrate mages and the usefulness of their magic they suddenly became idealized. Possibly mages were incentivized with the promise that their magic (skills) can be used by them to climb up social ladders, that it can make them special and exceptional over others.
So yeah that leads to where we are now. Being a mage is about 'utilizing' unique-enough traits (that just happened to be) as a means towards ambition: for both mages seeking to be hailed as the model over the other, and for non-mages who on a personal level don't really care what does the job as long as a job gets done (hence why it's implied they're just transitioning to technomancy now lol. Magic power at your disposal without the mid and risky parts like overblotting, childhood trauma, emotions. And free willđč)
The reason people like Yuu were looked down on in NRC isn't really because magiclessness a fantasy disability/lower class, more just that they are 'ordinary', a person with no palatable enough trait that they can be pressured with to make exceptional. A twinge of envy and spite that they were not bothered enough by this to become as distrustful and disatisfied as most of NRC, the same way they are bothered by kinder magic users like Kalim, Silver and RSA students. This is why Crowley brings up their plainness in the prologue as something that can probably help balance out the very opportunistic NRC students. Among influential families like the Asims, only Kalim and his mother are mages. TLDR OF THIS^ is that having magic isn't really the stand-in for identities like race or ability, though they can affect what happens to a mage they are still existing separate positions in-universe. They're a minority not inherently in the way rich people are a minority but in the way most average people are not familiar with mathematical or musical theory.
Onto Rollo. Other than the earlier established fact that his plan to take away the means of livelihood of humans would still be straight up fatal to many magical non-human species, the whole point of his character is that he is kind of a moral hypocrite who is also a 'villain' despite claiming to differentiate between himself and the others. The other mages are "villains" for using magic carelessly, for their own whims and such, but Rollo is still also incentivized regarding magic-related things by the proving exceptionality and rising in status-and-power-thing (seeing himself as the only one fit to retain magic and basically have control over who gets it or nah*)
So his plan is less of disrupting cellular services (magic is probably more deeply rooted in people with magic ability than this implies) and more like if he wanted to be the best new writer so he finds any small strawman to jump (and in this analogy I guess cancelđ) other writers for he can hoard all the praise and feel morally superior.
--------
* Small correction edit about this part:
Though otherwise mostly still the same point regarding hypocrisy in how he uses magic/the pseudo-selfless sentiment that magic refusing to sacrifice or surrender itself for the "greater good" should be feared and taken from the caster's control stuff
--------
This once again doesn't even account for how this plan was going to eventually disable then slowly kill an entire intelligent species if it succeeded. That Rollo is not special or different and is even among the 'villains' is the point and consistent with twst themes, and it's impossible to fully acknowledge how and why if his scheme is downplayed to just some mild inconvenience (or that "he was right" when bro never even said squat about class inequality in magic education and careerđ)
All of this is to say is TWST isn't planning on having the characters turn to the screen and announce that the only way to move forward is to completely abolish capitalism or something. TWST is still made by Disney and is a gacha game after all so theres only so much it can say or want to say about that. Even after character development, they're still thinking in a way of how to make good (and profitable) use of resources and people.
Establishing this background more to show what it really means for someone to be a product of their time/environment. This also doesn't mean that non-magic users are like THE bad guys, this whole dynamic is pretty fluid on an individual level to say that, it's also why it's probably better understood as creative/worker-consumer allegory than a disability or social class allegory by itself. Not every part of being a mage is a perfect 1:1 to being an artist but it basically aims to evoke a sense of similar struggles regarding commodification, creativity etc. It also shows that a skill being "prized" is not necessarily a good thing for the people with that skill in the long-term. Being seen as exceptionally worthy/heroic or exceptionally villainous are both sides of the same coin in simplifying someone away from being a "normal person" just because something about them is different, and one of twst's taglines is that maybe there is more to the story of villains (too simplified of a label) than meets the eye. If they commit to going with this the thematic coherence would actually be so awesome. As it is though we've been shown fairly little about certain worldbuilding aspects/what we've been shown is kinda unclear despite the amount of material released, so understandable why there's different understandings of how magic works. Though given everything we've been shown so far, this being the theme they're going for with magic is fairly plausible
(This got pretty long and barely related to the original post sorry OPđ„ needed to get all the points out there so my theory interpretation thing didn't sound like I just pulled this out of my ass)
LAST WILD THEORY: The Rollo Glomasq plot + hints about the transition to technomancy and the timeline of mage history is build-up to how in Book 8 Malleus's overblot after a string of 6 consecutive NRC overblots is gonna be used to bring back to scare of mages and that their power really can't be controlled by the mainstream. And this will basically be used as an excuse to not support them anymore since they have the technology now anyway + to continue plundering projects in the BV and such because "its better used not in their hands".
Unfortunately coinciding with the fact that Book 8 (likely in May as that's when the Spelldrive tournament is) will be when Silver turns 18 and this coming of age will let him pull the Sword from RSA and lead to some Iron Kingdom revivalists to pressure him to take over etc. This reblog text is already too long though so whatever
tbh rolloâs plan to get rid of magic is more equivalent to building a machine that breaks every single cell phone in the world. It would not kill anyone however if would deeply mess up everything about modern society and upset a lot of people emotionally and financially.
like being a mage is a skill and a prized skill at that. being a mage isnât a minority like being queer or disabled, itâs a minority in the way that being rich is a minority. yes, technically theyâre not the majority of the population, but they actually hold more power than non mages
meanwhile Idia and Ortho tried to kill everyone on the entire planet.
#long post#i hyperfocused on writing this instead of my HW its over#once again no hate to OP just wanted to share thoughts on the position of mages in twst society#everyone is more focused on whether rollo wouldve actually killed fae and etc but even if it got proven he wouldn't have i still disagree-#-with how OP interpreted the position of magic users in the story and thats mostly what this reblog aims to refute#âPretty weird part of their message to focus on thoâ idk man it matters to međđ„

FINALLY SOMEONE SAID THE TRUTH.
I admit that i enjoyed act 3 but it feels like really rushed i have so much complain with that.
The build up until act 2 was so good it give us so much premise but the final blow si meh. Sorry that i want to share thing long rant with you
1. Why the final talk is with yae, no offense to her but we need ei to explain not to mention she witness khaenriah downfall so she can give us more information, i feel like they do it for the plot armor so they can just keep dragging this
2. So many things that quite inconsistant, the shogun is show no mercy to anyone that even did a little thing outside what she think its right, how come she can still have a talk with signora, when sara is falling like that, and also there is no clarification about sara right now.
The traveler was so done at first they refuse to help thoma and ayaka at the beginning. But they seem so happy and forget everything how come they are not RAGE ( okay maybe this is to bias and personal) when this nation provide nothing about our siblings information and also why they are not mention anything about their problem in ei stroy quest. Its nonsense! She is right in front of youu, ask about your siblings, ask about khaenriah, ask about ukmown god!!. How come they can just forget like that. Also mihoyo really waste the potential about twin things i thing ei will give us so much help bcs of the sympathy that we both rn lost our twin but noooo.
3. Kokomi seem lost some brain cell, she make a very succesfull grand intro but she become meh in act 3, how come a great strategist like her let the sus sponsorship slip just bcs they are desperate, not to mention her screen time is really small and her role seem so unsignificant and it feels lile she is a plain npc.
4. The awesome world quest that we have done doesnt get any mention at all! Inazuma owe us so much with cleansing sakura, thunder sakura, tatarigami, obarashi quest. It has so much potential that yae or ei or anyone else aknowledge what traveler has been done but nooo.
cracks knuckles... i suppose it's time for my promised dissertation. interestingly enough, you touched on a lot of the main issues i had with chapter III.
i think that if i had to pin the main issue, it's a lack of overall cohesiveness? we were jumping all over the place without the chance to ever flesh things out. inazuma is a smaller cast, but i feel like we didn't get to see any of them shine. since i'm most interested in the genshin characters, i'll break down my problems by going over everyone and their (lack) of impact on the story.
was ayaka not questioned or placed under suspicion for being close to thoma before his escape? i wanted to see her broken up over her duties as they relate to the yashiro commission, paired with having someone she genuinely cares about in danger. it would've been an interesting struggle if she was forced to choose one or the other. instead she just kinda took a back seat.
speaking of thoma, i don't even have anything to say, because he just... was there? for .0001 seconds. said "lol this sucks ig" and that's about it. i know we're going to get a story for him in the future since he's a 5* but i'm not getting my hopes up đ then in the raiden shogun's character story, man is peachy keen! be upset with the raiden shogun! have some inner conflict! even if it's just using loaded language because he's under surveillance for going against the raiden shogun, that'd be so cool. saying something like,
"Traveler, what's with that expression? Oh please, there's nothing to worry about. We're under the Statue of the Omnipresent God's protection. Nothing bad has ever happened here." *wink*
i also don't know what to say about gorou. he was... there....... i think. what is he fighting for? what are the stakes for him? what makes him place so much trust into kokomi? i'm out of things to say about him because i don't remember anything he did or said.
kokomi... oh kokomi... i was so hyped. so excited. i thought that maybe we could see a foil to the raiden shogun. that she'd have a moment where she's forced to realize, just like her opponent, sacrifices must be made that will hurt people who will never understand why she made them. or maybe something to show her military prowess. but instead she just accepts a mysterious patron's help (?), sees her people aging like the grateful dead from JJBA, and goes oh well. that sucks. what can ya do. oh bye traveler i guess, good luck with that. ????????????? HUH... similar case to thoma where she's gonna get a character story but like. she won't be the leader of the resistance anymore. that was her whole shtick. they took her shtick away. also she forced me to interact with more NPCs whose names i've already forgotten so i'm tilted about that still.
KUJOU SARA... AN INJUSTICE. A DISGRACE. a slap to my woman loving face. the build up was there. yae miko's comments about sara probably knowing the tenryou commission is involved in shady dealings, but is choosing not to think about it. sara being forced to confront reality and challenge her adopted father with the truth. being able to blaze a new path for herself in the process. when she started running to the raiden shogun i was ultra hyped up. sara, a devotee to the shogun for so long, was about to see her god interacting with the same people who led inazuma to this awful state. how would she react? would she stay ignorant, like yae miko so coyly said, choosing to look away in favor of following her god's footsteps? or would she be forced to recognize the raiden shogun isn't as divine as she once thought, and challenge her belief system?
we open the door to see the raiden shogun. the loading screen ensues. the camera pans to the ominous room, clouded in darkness, hinting at the ominous confrontation that is to come. the music takes a serious timbre. and then...
well fuck that potential character arc i guess. (we still don't know what sara made of any of this since she poofed out of existence from the story at this point)
kazuha also was handed a similar treatment. we've been with him for a while longer now. he is our introduction into inazuma, the one who first gets us emotionally involved by regaling us with the bittersweet tale of friendship that led him to becoming a wanted criminal. a kind soul who loves nature yet was dealt a cruel hand by fate, forced to watch his home nation turn into a hostile place, where his dear friend ultimately perished as a result. we get the scene with his friend's vision lighting back up. he parries a block from the raiden shogun, in the same area where his friend was killed by her. the parallels. the drama. except this time, he wasn't too late. he protected the traveler where he "failed" to protect his friend in the past. did he feel redemption at this? or was it a bittersweet reminder of what could've been?
WELL i guess we'll never know because we didn't get to talk to him again đ idk who got a bait and switch worse, him or sara. jesus christ mihoyo.
then we have signora. why is the raiden shogun talking to her? does she know about the gnosis being taken, and if she doesn't, what was her plan to get it from the archon? what does she think about scaramouche? and oh, okay, we're fighting here now. good fight + god tier music. pog pog. okay, now we've beaten her up, and raiden shogun wydâ wait no not signora her lore is still on CUPS not YET raiden shogun andâ ah she's dead. okay. non nerds who didn't read artifact lore are going to know nothing about her. signora has such an interesting story, and yet... well. ok.
then we get raiden shogun redemption (?) arc. i was hype for this as well, though at that point, idk why i bothered being hype. i knew they were gonna do a cute power of friendship something or another, and i'm good with that, so long as it's executed well. what i was envisioning was like seven different buffs to correspond with the seven different visions, the dreams of those whose ambitions were stolen serving as the spear to penetrate the raiden shogun's heart of stone. maybe a hydro vision giving us extra healing for a time, with the voice acting over it being like,
"Even if the rest of the world forgets us, let our will carry you through this one final time. Succeed where we couldn't, Traveler."
so on and so forth.
but instead we gotâ you get the idea at this point. why bother spelling it out anymore.
at that point i was surprised the raiden shogun didn't go "oopsie woopsie!! we made a fucky wucky!!!" because that was the vibe i was getting. i love ei, don't get me wrong, but i wanted to see her challenged with what she had done to inazuma in the past year. maybe meeting NPC #2345259 who lost her sister to the vision decree or something, reminding ei of the love she held for her sister... being forced to come to terms with the extent of what she's done in pursuit of eternity.
anyway. please for the love of god mihoyo hire better writers for the main story. that is all i ask. thank you.

OK so hereâs charaâs new design.... yes i know i can Stick To One Design for 5 minutes. i probs should just be a character designer. Chara has a gold soul in my h/c (i posted about it recently, i can link it again if needed) and while I wonât make it a Plot Point here because its Very Much A Fan Theory and I donât wanna lean too hard on that. but ye, if you wanna see it as chara regaining their colorscheme from before death, that works too!
anyway, this is the last new design for chara until the epilogue so! gotta update the banner/avatar again LOL
tho uh, before that, wanna address why flower-chara didnât last so long: its because the story is nearing itâs end, thereâs a few more storybeats/twists left but then itâs over for a bit, then iâll come back after a break to do the epilogue + then months later do the fangame to finish darkworld
point being, i didnât want to linger on it (it wasnât even supposed to be a âtwistâ it was a last minute choice to make them full flower. i originally was having it as a time limit near-the-breaking-point kinda thing. but like, chara already went thru their breaking point! so that didnât make sense.) its really funny how last minute changes can happen for the better! like, toriel was supposed to come in later, and then weâd get the emotional pay off after the climax??? it was stupid. iâm much happier with this version.
i do wish maddieâs plotline could of been done over the christmas break ;v; its a shame since its christmasy and there would of been so much more MTT and dreemurr family shinangins. a whole story beat about chara potentially meeting asriel on live tv (while still in separate countries) but it would show both a Nicer side to Asrielâs public persona that hints to how he actually did want to see chara again. ...while also still using the satire of the Idol King figurehead still. but i feel thereâs been enough of that already in the story, and esp after the flowey reveal, itâs unneeded. obviously in the original plan, asriel wouldnât turn to flowey backstage. but hey! now i got time to write more flowey and yun. so thatâs nice
anyway the redraw is back in swing btw! feel free to read it as it updates :> itâll change the story sliiightly to fit my newer views/ways of writing + connect the story better to be more cohesive. itâs a lot of fun, and makes toriel gunnin after chara lmao a call back in that version instead lol

Miles Between Us Chapter 11 ~Suspicious Minds~
Picture Edit by melodyheart
Previously in The Art of Non-Communication ...
A familiar bright red Fiat slowed down next to them just as Jamie was about to get into the car, and Ian, their brother-in-law, poked his head out of the window. "Hey, lads, guess who I just saw back in town?"
The brothers looked at each other and shrugged.Â
When Ian stalled, Willie blew out an impatient breath.Â
"Out with it!" Willie grumbled. "I've been away from work for far too long already."
Ian grinned. "Yer pal Christie."
Jamie waved a hand in the air in dismissal and turned to open the car door, not particularly interested in hearing the latest coming and going in Broch Mordha. "I'm pretty sure the lassies will be thrilled he's back."
"Aye, ye're probably right, but I dinnae think ye'd be too pleased to hear if one particular lass is enjoying his company."
Jamie whipped around. "What do ye mean?" He sounded like someone just launched a flying rugby pass onto his stomach.
"Saw Claire and Tom through the window of Slater's Arms. Probably sitting down for late lunch."

Claire hurriedly made her way to Slater's Arms to meet Tom Christie. They'd arranged earlier to meet at the pub after he'd dropped her off at the village centre to do her errands, so she was surprised to see him waiting outside. After exchanging a hurried cursory hello, he allowed him to guide her through the half-filled bar, his hand ever so lightly touching her elbow. They were greeted by a string of boisterous sallies from the locals, to which Tom good-humouredly responded with a couple of wisecracks of his own . It was becoming pretty clear they were in his local haunt and was well-liked by its patrons. But she also suspected there could be whispers going around, wondering what she was doing with him. Despite those thoughts, she kept her head up, and a smile plastered to her face.
After navigating through the narrow maze of tables and chairs, they opted for an empty space by the window, away from the bar where a heated football discussion was just about to begin. They simultaneously slid into their seats, sitting opposite each other, his lopsided grin and lax manner putting her immediately at ease. He was seemingly oblivious to the curious stares around them, but Claire paid no heed to the attention they were garnering and pushed her earlier encounter with Jenny away from her mind. This was a professional meeting, a welcome distraction even though it was proving an impossibility not to picture Jamie across from her. Suddenly missing Jamie, she allowed her thoughts to momentarily drift and wondered what he was up to.
"Hey."
Claire snapped out of her reverie. "Huh?"
"I asked if ye're hungry."
"Oh! Well, I'm not sure," she murmured, squinting at the specials scrawled on the blackboard hanging behind the bar. "Sort of, I guess."
"Sort of?" he laughed. "What kind of answer is that?" He passed her a menu. "Here. Ye ought to try their haggis tweeds. They have the best in this area."
She snorted, taking the menu card and skimming through it. "Really? I've never met a Scot who liked haggis, and yet every one of you lot I've met recommends it to non-locals."
"Aaahh," he leaned forward, propping his elbows on the table. "To be honest, I dinnae like haggis myself when cooked the traditional way. But the haggis tweeds are different ...more palatable. They're rolled into balls, breaded and deep-fried. I'm quite sure ye'll like them."
"Hmmm ..." When she glanced up from the menu, she met his thoughtful gaze. Though smiling, he had an odd expression on his face. "Wot?" She smoothed her hair, thinking it must be all over the place. She dreaded what her hair looked like after being caught in the rain earlier on. She wished now she'd tied it back before leaving the cottage. "Anything wrong?"
Tom shrugged his shoulders. "Just noticing ye dinnae look as upbeat as ye sounded on the phone the first time we talked. I was expecting ye to be more excited about selling me the idea of publishing my travel book. Ye kinda look as if something is bothering ye. Is anything the matter?"
She let out an exhale and placed the menu down. "I'm sorry. I've just had a rough day."
"Boyfriend problem?" he asked slowly.
She arched an eyebrow at him. Friendly as Tom was, Claire wasn't prepared to share any details of her personal life. "I just have a lot of things going on, and then you threw me out of the loop," she explained, not wanting to lie but not wanting to over-share either. "I was caught off-guard when you phoned earlier, and I wasn't expecting your call until, at least, sometime next week."
"Ye could've told me to meet at a later date. I wouldnae have minded."
"No! Today is fine," she assured him quickly. "I'm probably slowly weaning from the fast pace of hectic schedules in London, that at the first sign of change, I stumble a bit."
He grinned. "Weel, whatever is bothering ye, I dinnae like you looking so downcast. Maybe we can do something about it right now and tell ye a bit of good news. To cheer ye up."
"I like good news ..." she remarked, perking up, guessing he probably had a new picture or post on his blog he wanted to show.
"That's much better," he said when he caught a hint of a smile forming on her face. "As I was saying, I have a bit of good news. I've been giving your proposition a lot of thought ..." he shifted on his seat and took a deep breath. "I've decided I want to go ahead and publish my travel blog in print."
She blinked and swallowed before finding her voice. "But you haven't seen the projected sale and all the ..."
He waved a hand. "I'm quite sure after that impressive pitch over the phone, yer projected whatever and other wotnots ye wish to go over with me will be just as equally convincing. The idea is sold, and I'm on board."
"Just like that?"
He nodded his head, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Aye. Now that I've met ye in person, I'm pretty confident ye'll make sure I'll get a fair deal for my book. I'm a good judge of character, and I trust ye'll do what's right."
"Of course."
"So it's settled."
"Well, that's ...that's fabulous," she breathed, her mind rushing in all sorts of direction.
"This calls for a celebration, don't ye think?" he smiled, waving at the waitress.
Before Claire could reply, her purse vibrated. She pointed an index finger at Tom. "Hold that thought." She opened her bag and grabbed her phone. It was her boss, John Grey.
"Oh, hi, John! I'm in the middle of ..."
"Claire, I'm sorry to dump this on you," John said rapidly in a panicky tone. "Mary Hawkins just phoned and said she expects you to pick her up at Inverness Airport."
"Wot?!? But how? Why?" She glanced at Tom and noticed a light frown lining his brows. "She hasn't been answering any of my emails. What the hell is she doing in Inverness?" She knew it wasn't professional to be discussing another author over the phone with a potential client in front of her. But it couldn't be helped. At the moment, she was far too agitated to care. Mary Hawkins, the publishing's star author, had been elusive ever since she disappeared to France, and she'd been the reason Claire had decided to take a break in Scotland only to be given another job in the form of Tom Christie. "Please don't tell me you sent her here. I have enough on my plate as it is." She gave Tom an apologetic look, to which he just shrugged and smiled in understanding.
A frustrated sigh came from John. "I swear to God, this isn't my doing. She arrived yesterday here in London, and when she demanded to start work right away on her book, I assigned another editor. But she wouldn't have it. She insisted on working with you. So I told her you're in Inverness doing another project. And then she called a few minutes ago, demanding you pick her up at the airport. I swear I didn't know she was planning on flying to Inverness."
Oh, God! "John!" she whined. "I can't just drop everything and pick her up. I'm an editor, not a chauffeur! I'm in the middle of talks with Mr Christie."
"I'm terribly sorry for this mess, Claire but, isn't there anything you can do? Your boyfriend, perhaps? You know how Hawkins is a big deal for the company."
She took a deep breath and squeezed her eyes shut. Claire felt she was being put in a position she didn't want to be in. On top of it all, her uncle would be arriving in two days, and there was the added worry she had with Jamie and potentially Jenny. The day was definitely getting worse by the second, but Claire reminded herself she was John's only hope, and he was a friend and had always been good to her. When she finally had the strength to open her eyes again, Tom mouthed something she couldn't quite catch.
Wot do you mean? She mouthed back, shaking her head.
"Claire, are you still there?"Â
"Yes!" she snapped, tamping down the urge to curse. "I'm here!"
"Well?"
She let out a frustrated breath. There was no way out of it. "Fine, John! But you owe me big time! I'll see what I can do."Â Damn it!
"You're a star!" John said, relief lacing his voice. "I knew I could rely on you. I'll text Hawkins to let her know you're on your way, and then I'll text you her private number. I don't think you'll have that. It's one of the reasons you couldn't get in touch with her. Anyway, let me know later how you get on."
Before she could answer, the line went dead. What the bloody hell just happened?
Claire dropped her head into her hands and groaned. She wanted to bawl, throw stuff and pull her hair out in frustration.
"Problems?"
She raised her head and looked at Tom. "I'm sorry you had to witness that. I have to cancel our meeting. I need to somehow get to Inverness and pick up this author I'm working with." Without going into too many details, Claire quickly explained her predicament, almost forgetting to breathe. By the time she finished, she was gasping for air and wondering if Tom understood what the hell she was on about. "As you can see, I probably have to organise her accommodation as well. So I really must get going." She stood up and grabbed her bag. "Raincheck?"
He got on his feet as well. "Look, I'm not doing anything for the rest of the day. How about I drive you to Inverness. I can even help you set her up."
"Tom, you don't have to."
"Hey, I'm about to get a book deal from your boss. Let me at least prove to ye what a perfect travel guide I am as I've portrayed on my blog."
Claire stopped to collect herself. On second thoughts, she did need Tom's help, and she couldn't well impose on Willie to drive her to Inverness when he'd been taking time off to check up on her ever since Jamie left. Maybe she could kill two birds with one stone and talk him through his own book's publishing process on their way to the airport. It was a brilliant idea, and hopefully, by the end of today, John would be able to draw up a contract for Tom. With a resigned smile, Claire appreciatively accepted the offer. "Alright then, but we do need to get going now."
"Absolutely. We'll go through the back door." When Claire looked at him curiously, he grinned. "I've parked the car in the staffs' parking lot. I'm good friends with the owner, so I get the privilege to walk through the kitchen and use the backdoor," he explained. Then he leaned closer to her ear and spoke in a low voice. "And if the chef is in a good mood, he might allow us to taste today's menu."
Claire laughed out loud, attracting attention from the pub's clientele. She ignored the curious stares. It was good to laugh again after the last couple of days of feeling down, and she owed it to herself to steer negativity and worries from her thoughts. "We'll stop by the cottage to get some clothes. Knowing my client, she'll probably want to stay in a posh hotel in Inverness and want to start working right away. She doesn't do bed and breakfast or small places. So I doubt she'll want to come to Broch Mordha."
Tom nodded with a smile as he took her hand and lead the way.
Heading to the back of the pub, Claire made a few mental notes on what she needed to take with her. She also reminded herself to message Willie about taking care of Rollo and Adso while she's away, hoping he would think nothing of it when he hears from the village gossip of her meeting with Tom.
...........
Jamie caught Willie's livid expression before the car started, and they were driving down the small country lane. He knew his brother was miffed with Ian, who'd sped ahead of them after revealing Claire's whereabouts with Christie. Though common sense told him he had nothing to be worried about, it had been still a punch in the gut to hear Claire was out with another man.
"Can ye speed up a bit?" Jamie muttered, shifting restlessly on his seat.
"We're not in a bloody motorway, and there are speed limits for a reason," Willie growled, his fingers flexing on the steering wheel. "And it will do ye a lot of good to use this time to calm down before we reach Claire. It's obvious ye're not thinking clearly."
Jamie almost wished he'd taken a ride with Ian instead. They couldn't see their brother-in-law's red Fiat anymore as it disappeared at a bend further ahead. But he knew Willie was right. He wasn't thinking clearly. It's just that, why it had to be Thomas Christie of all people Claire had chosen to go out with. He had nothing against the bloke, but he was a renowned player. What if Claire had grown tired of his condition and fell for Christie's charms? It wouldn't be a difficult feat as the bloke oozed charms by the bucketload. Hadn't he lost a girlfriend in the past because of Christie? Or was it because of his condition? He couldn't be sure anymore. Either way, knowing Claire was with Christie at this very moment was burning a hole in his stomach. "So ye're an expert on my thoughts now, are ye?" Jamie grunted, unable to think of a better excuse for his behaviour.
"I dinnae need to be an expert to know what ye're thinking ... it's written all o'er yer face," Willie retorted. "If ye'd called her up in the first place, then ye would've had a fair idea why she's meeting Christie, and ye wouldnae be in this stinking shite thinking the worse. The lass has been worried sick about ye, and she's put up with yer silence more than what could be expected of her. So do both yerselves a favour and calm the fuck down, aye?"
Jamie knocked back the claustrophobic sensation and forced himself to breathe. This had always been his trouble with his PTSD. He always had these intense emotions that always grew out of proportion to a point it would suffocate him, especially negatives ones like a feeling of lacking or guilt. Wasn't that what Geneva had said? There was a lot of misplaced guilt involved? And no matter what he did to get better, it was a bloody never-ending cycle that always brought him back to square one. But despite the shortcomings, he knew it would kill him if he didn't give himself a fighting chance with Claire. He might as well die trying. She was, after all, either going to be his reason for living or the reason he died. It was all right there, shining in front of him like a floodlight.Â
With a sigh, he tried to relax. Jamie knew justifying his earlier behaviour was a bad idea in both their current edgy states, but nothing would stop him from seeing Claire right now. It was like a need that required satisfying, and he couldn't wait to finally see her. He focused on the road ahead of them and listened to the radio to take his mind of negative thoughts.
It's a dreich Thursday afternoon, and here's another trip down memory lane with Mac's Classics here at MFR, with the biggest hits and the biggest throwbacks. Next up is a song sure to make ye forget the dreary days ahead â Let's get rickrolling with Never Gonna Give You Up.Â
"Turn it up," Jamie said suddenly, surprising his brother.
"What?" Willie glanced at him like he'd grown a pair of horns.
"I said, turn the bloody volume up!"
"Ye're joking, right? Rick fucking Astley? Nae chance pal!"
"Just do it," Jamie huffed, not caring what his brother thought of his song choice. When Claire had told him it had made her smile listening to it in the cafe the other day, he'd listened to it as well on his mother's antique record player. It was a bloody awful song, but for some strange reason, it had made him smile too.
Scowling and cursing under his breath, Willie eventually complied, and they listened to Rick Astley's song for the rest of the way. When they reached the village centre, Willie illegally parked outside Slater's Arms, carefully avoiding bumping into the menacing bollards. They were just about to get out of the car when Ian appeared from the pub, shaking his head.
Willie stuck his head out of the window. "What's the matter?"
"They're gone," Ian replied, shrugging, perplexity evident in his expression. "Spoke to Angus, and he said they didn't even order anything. They just got up and left."
Jamie got out of the car. "Did he say where they went?"
Ian narrowed his gaze at him. "I didnae ask."
Jamie ran a hand in front of his face and got back in the car. His brother had to work. There was only one thing left he could do, and it was to go back to the cottage, and if Claire wasn't there, he'd give her a call. He turned to Willie, letting out a sigh of resignation. "Just drop me off at the cottage. I've taken too much of yer time already."
"Ye sure?" Willie asked quietly. "I can drop ye off at Lallybroch. Yer car is there. Ye'll most probably need it soon, especially with more bad weather to come."
Jamie shook his head. He was certain Claire would be at home, and if not, surely later. He wasn't planning on going anywhere anytime soon but had every intention of making up for lost time with her. "It's time to go home," Jamie sighed, waving goodbye to Ian. "No more running away,"Â
Willie smiled, starting the car. "Good choice!"Â
It was a short drive to his cottage, and by the time they pulled up outside his house, the sun started to peek out for a splinter of a moment, his driveway though occupied by an unfamiliar vehicle. As soon as he saw a man's profile sat on the driver's seat, he immediately knew it was Christie. As if anticipating his next move and before he could yank off his seatbelt, Willie slapped a hand across his chest.
"What?" Jamie wheezed.
"Claire's in the cottage. Talk to her first and find out what's going on before ye jump to any conclusions."
Jamie breathed through a laugh, but he could hear it was edged with doubt. "What if I've fucked this up?"
"Ye havenae. And it's up to ye to keep that way. Now go to her. Ye'll find out soon enough there's a perfect explanation for Christie hanging about."
Words were fighting to leave his tongue, but he clamped his lips together and held them back. Vocalising the feelings raging inside his chest would only allow his emotions to run away with him. He reigned them in and took a deep breath. Whether it's a consequence of PTSD or not, he couldn't expect Claire to understand every time. So instead, Jamie gave Willie a reassuring nod and hoped his brother was right.Â
He got out of the car and walked straight to the cottage, refusing to acknowledge Christie. He knew he was being rude and could feel his brother's eyes boring into his back as well as Christie's. He didn't care because right at this moment, his primary focus was Claire.Â
As soon as he opened the door and saw Claire hooking a bag onto her shoulder, he bounded across the room, dropping his face into her neck and breathing for the first time in days. "Sassenach," he whispered. "I'm so sorry for leaving ye. I wasnae thinking. Please forgive me."
Claire dropped her bag on the floor, wrapping both arms around his neck. "Jamie, you're here," she breathed into his ear. "Are you alright? God, I've been so worried about you."
"I'm alright now that I'm here and ye're here," he rasped, lifting his head for a moment and eyeing the bags on the floor. "Why are yer bags packed?"
She followed his gaze. "I ...ah ... it's work, and I have to ..."
"Ye're going back to London?"
"No!"
That's all he needed to hear. Unable to wait any longer for an explanation, he pulled her into his arms as urgency pumped in his veins. He badly needed to absorb as much as he could of her, breathing her in, in huge gulps of air. His mouth travelled over her neck, into her hair, across her lips, whispering for forgiveness, his hands restless as he touched her everywhere.
"Hey, look at me ... there's nothing to forgive," she murmured, drawing away. She placed her hands on both sides of his face and searched his eyes. "I understand what you've been going through, and I know you're fighting your hardest. It's going to be alright."
"I've missed ye." He turned his face to kiss her palm before placing her hand on his chest. "I-I thought ye're better off without me. I thought I could walk away from ye, and it would be enough knowing ye're safe from me. But nothing was right. I was sick to the soul, knowing I've left ye. I wanted ye to be with a better man than me, but now ... I'm gonnae be selfish and beg ye to let me be that man by yer side."
"Jamie, where's this coming from?" she queried. "I was worried and afraid for you, but I haven't changed my mind about us." She sighed. "Your brother told me yesterday, you were seeing a therapist this morning. Did you go today?"
Jamie swallowed and nodded, unable to still his hands, touching her everywhere, needing to assure himself he was really holding her.
"Is this why you're talking like this? Has the therapy dug up a lot of unwanted issues? Because if it has, it's perfectly normal."
"No!" He let out a frustrated breath. He'd been so unpredictable with the symptoms of his PTSD coming and going, she wasn't taking him seriously when he needed her to hear him out. "No, please listen and look me in the eye. I panicked when I saw the bruises on yer arms, and without thinking, I left. I did what I did because I didnae think I could ever be the man for ye ...a bloody disappointment, constantly causing ye grief. But I understand now why my condition is out of control at the moment ... it's because I have suppressed emotions that need to come out. It's been coming out more because all this while, ye've been the key to my healing. So I'm handing everything inside me over to ye because I trust ye, and ye're the only one who can make sense of me. I cannae promise smooth sailing, Sassenach, but there is one thing I know ye can depend on and will always be constant despite my condition. And that's my love for ye. I can guarantee ye with certainty ye can rely on that. This isnae a result of my therapy talking, alright? I willnae let ye go for anything. I can work around my condition with ye by my side, and I'll work twice as hard to get better."
"Jamie, I love you too, and I have no doubt that ..."
"Then why are your bags packed?" he questioned accusingly. "And why is Christie outside waiting for ye?"Â
With a sharp intake of breath, Claire quickly explained everything from the call she received from her boss to Christie's involvement and an impatient Mary Hawkins waiting for her at the airport.Â
He could tell she was itching to go by the way she tried to subtly glance at her watch, but he was feeling too selfish. "How about I drive ye to Inverness?" he cajoled, his hand stroking her hair. "Willie is still outside. We'll get my car in Lallybroch, and I'll drive ye." He suddenly felt like a bastard keeping her from doing her work.
"Jamie, no!" she said gently but firmly. He knew she was restraining herself from rushing off, wanting to make sure he was alright first. "I can't be fretting about you being in a city when I have work to do. There's a possibility I'll be back tonight, but if Mary wants to work straight away on her book, then I have to stay in Inverness for a couple of nights, tops. Besides, I need to explain to Tom about his book's publication and make sure he hasn't changed his mind. Until we've drawn up a contract, nothing is certain." Her hands smoothed the hard muscles on his chest. "Besides, I need you to be here when my uncle comes. He'll be hiring a car, so he won't require picking up."
"What? Ye're uncle is coming here?" he almost shouted.
"No. I mean, uncle Lamb won't be staying here in the cottage even though you told him he could. I've already booked him a place in the village centre ...close to the amenities."
He let out a sigh of relief. He didn't think he was ready to bond with Harry's look-alike ...yet. If anything, he dreaded it, afraid of other suppressed memories dying to come out and choke him with guilt.
"Jamie, I really ought to go. I promise I'll call later and explain everything."
With a groan, he pulled Claire in once more in his arms and kissed her thoroughly, and she responded with a whimper that told him she was enjoying the kiss. He hadn't even had a second to savour getting her back before the prospect of letting her go again struck him like a baseball bat between the shoulder blades. But he wanted to give her something to remember while she's away and what she'll be missing if she didn't hurry up with her work. He slipped his hand under her cardigan, caressing her nipple with the calloused pad of his thumb and pressing his burgeoning erection against her belly.
"I love ye ...always remember that." His mouth coasted along the lines of her jaw, his hands squeezing her waist. "I ken ye've been patient and understanding with me, but just try to be extra tolerant with me for now. Can ye do that?"
She nodded, her face red from beard burn. "Alright, but I do need to go, Jamie." Her eyes flashed. "And you have nothing to worry about. So please rest up tonight because you'll need a hell of a lot of energy when my uncle comes."
It's the way she looked at him, pleading for understanding that became his undoing as if she's reading his thoughts, and despite everything he'd done, she couldn't find fault with a single one. He needed to be a better man and control his emotions and needs. Her work was important to her, and she was important to him. "Fine, I'll walk ye to the car." He stooped down to get her bags and followed her outside.
They stopped beside Christie's car, and Jamie watched the other man climbed out, both men grunting a greeting at each other.Â
"Am I still driving ye to Inverness, Claire?" Christie asked, avoiding Jamie's eyes.
Claire nodded. "Yes, please, if that's still alright with you. I'm so sorry I took so long."
"It's nae bother, and of course, I'll drive ye to Inverness," Christie smiled warmly.Â
A long silence stretched as the three of them just stood there. Christie rocked on his heels, and Jamie held on to Claire's bags like it was his lifeline.Â
Caught up in the awkwardness of the moment, Claire bit her bottom lip. "Well, I guess that's settled then. We best get going before Mary does something like bite some poor soul's head at the airport." Claire's attempt to sound cheerful lessened the tension in the air but not the one on Jamie's shoulders. She turned to him and tried to take her bags off his hands, but he couldn't seem to let go. "Jamie ...my bags," she whispered, her hand running up and down his forearm as if to tell him everything was going to be alright.
But instead of giving Claire's bags back to her, he begrudgingly handed them to Christie while launching if looks could kill look over her head. They had a few seconds of stare off until Claire's hands on his face forced him to look at her.
"Jamie, kiss me, goodbye?"
He didn't hesitate at her request and sucked on her bottom lip as she made a sobbing noise. That wee noise she made jolted something free inside of him, and he, too, wanted to cry. He couldn't remember wanting to openly cry before. Not like this. He couldn't control it, and it dragged him down, stealing oxygen from his lungs, but Claire's touches soothed him.Â
"I don't want to go," she murmured against his mouth. "Not one bit. But I'm doing this for us, remember that. The sooner I'm done with work, the more time we can spend time together."Â
He allowed himself to wade into the shallow waters of comfort Claire was starting to represent. He'd lived with this reality for too long that he wasn't enough. Or probably worse, he was too much. For years, these memories of loss and guilt and shame had been subdued. Now they're coming out with guns blazing, and he felt totally defenceless. But with her arms around him, he felt cocooned in her bubble of protection. So he clung to her like a drunk with his last shot of whisky, the desperation inside him going into overdrive, and he was practically mauling her lips with no care whose watching, drawing her onto tiptoes so he could get all of her from every angle.
"Jamie," she whispered shakily, gently pulling away. "My phone is going off every second. Mary is probably wondering why I haven't called her."Â
Breathe, lad, it's going to be alright. Don't lose yer cool, or ye'll drive her away. He let go and opened the car door for her, not taking any notice of the man waiting patiently at the driver's seat. "I'm sorry," Jamie mumbled.
"It's alright." She smiled in understanding, squeezing his hand. "I'll be back before you know it."
He held on to Claire's eyes, the only tangible thing he could grasp, giving him a renewed determination to manage the condition that had ruled him all his life. At that moment, the world suddenly made sense, and he was veering into a place he didn't recognise ...a place of calm, where the voices in his head had lost their dominion over his thoughts.
He watched as Christie's Land Rover drove away and was surprised when a hand landed on his shoulder. Jamie turned around to discover Willie stood there, a smile etched on his face. Jamie had forgotten about his brother, too caught up with Claire's departure and the intense emotions he'd nearly let out of control.Â
"Ye did well, brà thair. I'm so proud of ye."
Jamie dropped his head forward and let out an exhale, feeling a lot lighter in days. He knew he'd only scratched the surface of their relationship, but Claire was giving him all the time in the world to get back on his feet, and he was determined not to disappoint her. Though it had been a struggle not to let his emotions take control, it was at least a start. He glanced up at his brother and smiled.
"Ye alright there, Jamie lad?" Willie playfully slapped him on the back for good measure.
"Aye, I think so." This time Jamie meant it and believed his own words. He threw an arm around Willie's shoulder, squeezed it briefly before stepping back. "And thank ye for sticking around. I owe ye one."
"Aye ye do," Willie grinned. "How about repaying me like right now and coming to work. It should keep yer mind busy and help me catch up with a long list of jobs."
Jamie didn't need prodding. His mouth curved into a smile, and he nodded his head. "After seeing Christie, I think I'm in the mood for uprooting trees."
They shared a wicked glance and then laughed out loud.
 Dear Readers,
Thank you all for your patience with this story and the feedback from the previous chapter.Â
Mental health stories are, I personally think, the hardest to put across because it involves a lot of emotions and psychological battle that are difficult to put into words. But I was determined to write this account even though it has its challenges, so I hope I've done it justice.
Part of the reason for pushing to write such a story that delves into the mind of a tortured soul is to raise mental health awareness because there are many things that people still don't understand about this illness. In saying that, some of you were disappointed by Jamie's behaviour, and I wanted that to happen to make a point.
In real life, it's so much easier to categorise and point out someone's shortcoming instead of trying to understand the psyche of a person's behaviour. From my perspective, each of us has undoubtedly suffered a form of mental illness at least once, but not everyone has the emotional and psychological strength and maturity to cope or overcome it. Nor do they have access to help. In Jamie' case, he's got a strong network of family, and he got Claire to help him get through it.Â
So the moral of the story is, spread kindness because you never know what really is going on in someone's mind.Â
For now, take care of yourselves. Until the next update ... X

the meme man full analysis
Yeehaw here we go. Analysis of Mikoto Kayanoâs video and song, along with some theories about the many themes and symbols in the video. Note: If thereâs any other supplemental material for him out there, I havenât read it. This is just an analysis with the music video we were given. If I happen to miss stuff that was mentioned before, I may talk about it in another post lmao
I was SUPER invested in this video as I watched it and soon realized âOh shit, I think Mikotoâs pluralâ. Cuz, you know, Iâm plural too (not disclosing what kind) and it felt SO good to see some actual parallels to stuff I go through- though of course not to Mikotoâs degree.
That said, I feel I should make a disclaimer in passing: yes, portraying your only plural character as homicidal ainât the best representation. But, you know, weâve seen other cases like that in Milgram so Iâm just gonna leave it at that. Personally, Iâm not that offended because the execution is SO top-notch. Though, hey, I totally understand how this can be very frustrating to other systems to see plurality depicted in such an unhealthy light- if itâs not for you, itâs not for you.
Keep in mind the point of the Milgram series is to make you uncomfortable in so quickly incriminating someone; if youâre hesitating to determine someone as guilty, hey, thatâs probably intended and good! Itâs about personal decision, so Iâm not going to judge you one way or the other in voting. I just find it fascinating how these videos can put us in such conflict. This is all just my own perspective, BTW, so if you disagree with some of these points, good! Iâm just hoping to share my thoughts since I can make a lot of connections. Iâm by no means an expert in plurality or tarot, I just have some background in both and decided to try my hand at this analysis, so I really donât the final say on whatâs going on in the video.
Now, onto the actual video analysis.
Iâm sticking with the basic idea that Mikoto is split into two parts; his more loveable, gentler side, which I referred to in another post as Softboy Mikoto, and the more violent side which may be acting as a catharsis to his frustrations. I referred to this side previously as the Devil alter, as he is depicted with the Devil major arcana tarot card. I can see how this could be taken badly, so for now Iâm just going to refer to him as the shadow alter. There are many themes of duality in the video, most commonly with the symbol of the half moon which appears so many times. Shadow of the moon etc etc. Iâll be bringing this up several times as I analyze the lyrics. Iâll be breaking down the lyrics as evidence to support the idea that Mikoto is plural, and to show how softboy Mikoto (and shadow alter Mikoto) view this particular relationship and how this culminates in murder. Sometimes I refer to Mikoto (as a whole), softboy Mikoto, or shadow alter Mikoto depending on what Iâm trying to describe in the below.
First piece: the title. MeMe. Me x2. A dead giveaway, like Umbilical. Also, it can be a meme, which is interesting taking the definition of the word meme in this context: âan element of a culture or system of behavior passed from one individual to another by imitation or other nongenetic meansâ (Oxford Dictionaries). Â HMMMM. I know memes are generally within the context of a community, but I think itâs interesting to actually apply this to Mikoto. What exactly is being passed on? Could we argue that Mikotoâs frustrations from one of his parts is being passed on to the other? Interesting to think about, though it may not be relevant.
Going into the lyrics:
So from here Iâm guessing there was a point in Mikotoâs life where his plurality was not an issue; or, potentially, there was a time before his split. These were the good times.
Playing dead vs. being alive â representing duality. May refer to how, when one side has their way, the other is locked away in the headspace with no control, thus feeling like being dead. In the context of âif onlyâ, perhaps heâs wishing that he just didnât do anything if only to prevent things from getting this far.
âIfâ I could end- I believe Mikoto (particularly softboy Mikoto) is saying âHey, I have no control over my other side. If I did, would things still be the same? Would I still be âlettingâ this happen?â
âKeep itâ and âhide it awayâ I feel like are both representative of his shadow alter and of the desires that alter represents. Many words related to destruction are tied to this alter, so it could be seen as Mikoto trying to hide those urges as well.
ââIâ will save âmeââ- this is a very interesting line that I think very well encapsulates the shadow alterâs initial motives; heâs saying âhey, Iâm going to take care of us,â I believe to try and convince softboy Mikoto to let him out. As far as if softboy Mikoto can actually âletâ him out is TOTALLY up for debate.
Part of the reason I refer to the other alter as softboy Mikoto is because there are softer words I notice used by him in the song; hereâs Iâm seeing âsnuggleâ, so I think this side of him is more vulnerable and soft.
SWITCH, shake up that brain- wow couldnât be any more obvious here
This is where the chorus starts. This I think is from softboy Mikotoâs perspective, PARTICULARLY when heâs trapped in the headspace. There are many forms of plurality IRL in which alters cannot simultaneously front, so one or more are âpushedâ back into the headspace. This very act occurs several times throughout the song in the weird minimalist vaporwave shadow realm room, where the tarot cards are. During this time, we can assume that is when the shadow alter is fronting. Softboy Mikoto slowly starts to become more helpless and fearful in this space as the song goes on, and this is where he makes his celtic cross tarot spread that quite frankly defines the whole song. I discussed that in my other post.
Another facet of plurality that is applied here is amnesia, which is common, especially when alters are pushed back to the headspace. Within the headspace, there may be a lack of awareness to the outside world, which Mikoto seems to express in his confused sentiments like the above (in the video, he is also scratching his head, which as a gesture can represent being confused). âWhy am I here?â can act as a double entendre, both referring to âWhy have I suddenly been pushed to this headspace?â as well as the whole point of Milgram- âWhy am I in prison?â. He may not be aware of exactly what he did, hence why he feels itâs a mistake. He may be experiencing amnesia of what his shadow alter is doing, so he doesnât even know what crime he committed. However, he at least has enough awareness to tell someone else is present in his body doing things, so he begs the viewer âHey, just watch whatever my body is doing and itâll all eventually make sense. I donât have access to this information, but you do.â I thought this was an interesting fourth wall break.
The truth revealing itself could also be the truth coming to light from the particular tarot reading he does in the headspace; note that the cards only seem to be appear in this place and not in the outside world. So softboy Mikoto is trying to figure out whatâs going on this way. If he canât figure it out himself, maybe the cards can give him some direction.
Another duality- âI wonât forgive you if you reveal the truthâ vs. âHowever I know Iâm right when I say Iâm innocentâ. Or he could be right about something else.
Iâm wondering if the breaking here is just reflecting the shadow alter or is softboy Mikoto actually wishing he could end the shadow alter. He at least wants things to change; the way things are right now is not something heâs okay with. Though, it sounds like he isnât getting help with this and has no idea if he can even arrest full control again. It seems at this point, this has been going on for a while so heâs stopped trying.
In the video, the shadow alter is doing a GREAT job hiding the evidence; while of course probably just trying to not get caught, the shadow alter may also be trying to hide his crime from softboy Mikoto so heâs none the wiser.
Heâs hoping he can be rid of the shadow alter side, but I think he also is dumping all his difficult feelings onto the shadow alter. Maybe he feels its some sort of release, even if he canât control it, so he feels a lot of guilt over the shadow alterâs existence, even though that alter is serving a purpose as a conduit for those emotions.
I really really think though that there IS some connection between softboy Mikoto and shadow alter Mikoto. Maybe they are both truly aware of each other, hence the scene where they are viewing each other through the mirror. I think here, softboy Mikoto might be admitting that it feels good to let the shadow alter out, like a hug. The âminus energyâ probably refers to the shadow alter.
âMaybe itâs okay that weâre separated like this?â he wonders. There seems to be a sense of feeling alive at least that is conveyed through the shadow alter.
SPLIT IN HALF- yeah, again, pretty encompassing.
In the video, I think this is when we have a switch, as Mikotoâs expression changes in the outside world mirror.
The chorus again, softboy Mikoto is shoved into the vaporwave shadow realm headspace. Heâs asking the audience to investigate him here, but I also like to joke that heâs like âuwu look at me I could never harm anybody, pwease let me outâ, which may be true only so far as softboy Mikoto is out.
I wonder if in âI will NEVER forgive you if this is happening to meâ is directed at the shadow alter instead of the audience? Like softboy Mikoto is saying âI swear to god if you murdered someone im gonna be so pissed, but I also already kinda know itâs happening.â Just another take.
In the video, softboy Mikoto is THROWN into the headspace, where he is gifted with just one hint of whatâs going on: The Devil tarot card.
You DARE accuse Miette of murder? Oh! 1000 years jail for Milgram viewer!
Now the vaporwave space starts to turn into a bloody mess; perhaps now softboy Mikoto is starting to put two and two together.
âHurting it, holding it down, it doesnât change anything, does itâ- I definitely understand this being plural, like if your alters are causing problems, you may try and chastise them, or you may try and lock them away deep inside, but that often doesnât stop them from existing. Itâs really cool how that idea is present here. Like YES thatâs how it is quite often. So even if softboy Mikoto TRIES to smother or accuse his shadow alter, thatâs not going to change anything.
It being the same anywhere he goes makes me think heâs been putting up with this for a long time, that itâs not about what environment heâs in because his shadow alter is with him everywhere he goes.
âItâs like whatâs wrong isnât wrongâ- may be referring to multiple things:
-the shadow alter having a different morality (hence why murder is okay for him, his indulgence in smokes andâŠredbull/alcohol, etc)
-OR, how softboy Mikotoâs amnesia isnât letting him understand the full picture so everything is okay when heâs out fronting (shadow alter cleaned the place up and stuff, perhaps hiding all evidence of murder)
-âIâm already the fake oneâ- a very common sentiment for plural folks, worrying if you as an alter arenât âthe originalâ or if youâre not actually split and itâs something youâre making up, etc. I think softboy Mikoto is having these feelings. Poor boy, wish we could get you some therapy instead :/ (all of Milgram would be very different if only most of these people could get therapy, letâs be honest)
Now, whatâs special here is that BOTH alters are in the headpace, with shadow alter Mikoto looming ominously behind softboy Mikoto.
During this next instrumental, just a side note: we see whatâs going on through security footage. The security cameras reflecting a third person perspective is kind of neat in context of pluralism, where someone else fronting can feel like a third person awareness to another alter. I may be thinking too much into this one, but itâs a fun connection.
Another thing many plural folk go through: DISSOCIATION FROM REALITY. Ah yes, my good friend dissociation. Especially like in Mikotoâs case, where the consequences of being split have drastic consequences, he could be running away from the truth which may always be partially concealed to him. Somethingâs VERY wrong, he knows this for sure, and it may be at this point he really realizes âOh shit. I just committed murder.â But instead of taking responsibility in any way, heâs trying to imagine that itâs a fabricated reality. Iâm not going to say if this makes him bad or not, but it is a known coping mechanism.
I know I mention that the bad habits of smoking and drinking may be the shadow alters habits, but they could also be softboy Mikotoâs own methods of escapism, which definitely fits with the above lyrics. âI need to wake up soonâ- but he still realizes that heâs going to have to face the harsh truth of reality soon.
Now this point indicates a marked change in softboy Mikoto and shadow alter Mikotoâs relationship: I believe there may be a time when softboy Mikoto expects to come back out to the front, but now the shadow alter is starting to take over fully and keep softboy Mikoto locked inside. This is supported by the Outcome card in his celtic cross spread being The Devil. Not only does this card have its own meanings, but here it may mean that the more violent side of him takes over.
Again, donât know if heâs talking to the audience or his shadow alter in never forgiving this outcome. I believe softboy Mikoto does have a clearer morality in that murder is NOT okay, and if he were to fully acknowledge that he as a whole was capable of that, I think heâd break down. So heâs like âit better NOT be trueâ because he doesnât know how heâd be able to deal with that.
Interesting in the video is when Mikoto snaps and the headspace turns red again; I would think this is when the shadow alter is entering the scene and taking over. The snap here is symbolic of the switch.
Now presumably softboy Mikoto is like âPWEASE WET ME OUT MISTEW OBAMAâ, which, again with the double meaning, can refer to letting him out of the vaporwave shadow realm headspace OR letting him out of prison. Both apply.
âThat itâs a lie
That Iâm rightâ- a nice duality here. Mikoto is having difficulty separating the truth from reality.
Also NOW he is forgiving. Forgiveness vs not forgiveness (grudge)
I think itâs gotten so bad that heâs like âokay fine. Fine if I committed murder, fine if youâre accusing me of murder, but please help me understand whatâs going on. Let me outâ. Maybe heâll forgive the shadow alter if only he fesses up to the murder.
Of note for the scene however is that shadow alter Mikoto is holding up The Fool card, which represents softboy Mikoto in this case. âIâm rightâ may be the shadow alterâs sentiment.
-THE CARDS AT THE END-
Then, all the cards show up in more detail, all depicting weapons instead of the standard minor arcana that you might see in your standard Rider Waite tarot deck (which these are based off of). The Wands are baseball bats, the Swords are kitchen knives, the Cups areâŠpoison cans? Acid? The Pentacles areâŠ.records but I can see these being rotary saws if you squint. The Wheel of Fortune has car wheels with a snakeâŠ.GTA time baby (the snake being hidden danger, the devilâs temptation, etc). The chariot is a really weird motorcycle death machine. I was thinking how like, people would drag people along behind them while driving a vehicle as a method of torture so there is that.
Now we see some cards not in the original spread- I think this represents shadow alter Mikoto inserting himself into the headspace and changing things to fit his goals. We see a couple placed in the original spread, but some donât and are just free-floating, but youâll see below we have enough context to decipher their meaning.
First, itâs the Page of Pentacles, which has taken over the position of the 7 of swords as the current challenge affecting the issue. This card indicates âManifestation, financial opportunity, skill developmentâ. I think this means the shadow alter is finally learning to take full control.
Then we see the reverse 2 of swords, which represents âIndecision, confusion, information overload, stalemateâ. This could probably represent softboy Mikoto not suddenly understanding why the shadow alter is ALSO in the headspace. Maybe his dual presence in the outside world AND the headspace is indicative of exactly when he learned to take full control. This was NOT in Mikotoâs original spread.
Wheel of Fortune again, which was in the original spread. âBad luck, negative external forces, out of controlâ. Yup, that confirms it.
Next, the Five of Swords from the original spread comes up. âConflict, tension, loss.png, defeat, win at all costs, betrayalâ. Softboy Mikoto is now being completely taken over. There is a facedown card on the chair. This might be the one that reads as Death later, so it may be that softboy Mikoto isâŠKILLED OFF?
Cup of Ace, âLove, compassion, creativity, overwhelming emotionâ. I think this one is also meant to represent softboy Mikoto, but it could be that the shadow alter sees it as an act of mercy to take full control for softboy Mikoto. Maybe he feels his alter canât handle reality and heâs going to take over full time. Or more likely he just has ulterior motives.
Reverse King of Cups. âemotional manipulation, moodiness, volatilityâ. Softboy Mikoto was lead along, thinking it was okay to leave things to the shadow alter or to exist alongside him. Now we see that isnât a viable solution.
Reverse Five of Wands. âconflict avoidance, diversity, agreeing to disagreeâ. Â I went over this more in the other post.
Chariot is the last one, WHICH ALSO WAS NOT IN THE ORIGINAL SPREAD. âControl, willpower, success, action, determinationâ. The shadow alter Mikoto has taken full control. Which is very quickly followed byâŠ
Shadow alter Mikoto drawing Death. Also not in the original spread. Perhaps effectively âkilling offâ softboy Mikoto and betraying him.
Concluding Thoughts.
Now, I understand I do take most of these lyrics from softboy Mikotoâs perspective, but Iâm sure thereâs a layer of deception added on by his shadow alter. The Challenge card of the 7 of swords did represent betrayal. So softboy Mikotoâs only context into whatâs going on outside may be his headspace tarot reading. If you want to question some of the lyrics, or even think one of the alters is lying, that would add SO much to the complexity of the situation, and I wouldnât put it past the Milgram team to add something like that.
Common Themes/Symbols:
The mirror, both in the headspace and in the outside world bathroom
The Hanged Man- in a painting in the headspace and on Mikotoâs shirt. Indicative of being wrongly accused or martyred. Softboy Mikoto is likely represented with this, as well as The Fool. The Fool painting probably is there to show that he doesnât know any better, that he is without the knowledge of what his shadow alter is doing (or doesnât believe heâs doing anything wrong)
The Half Moon- a light side and a dark side. Pretty self-explanatory. Symbolically, it can also represent life and death. NICE.
Sorry if the conclusions end up being kind of vague. Thatâs the way a lot of this video is; whatâs really going on, as it usually is, is up to viewer interpretation at this stage. I was just hoping to provide a bit of context into the images in the video, plural life, and narrator interpretation. I just really love this video and after this full analysis hope others can at least appreciate the work that went into it.

Lets talk about šFast Forwardš and šBack To The Sewersš
So, yeah. I was finally able to finish watching the TMNT 2003 series. I know i could write an entire review about the series but i decided to focus on the two last seasons šFast Forwardš and šBack To The Sewersš since they are quite controversial seasons in the fandom due to their writing.
Iâm going to explain what i think these seasons did right and then what went wrong with the writing that made them not get so well-received in comparison to previous seasons. IÂŽm going to start with Fast Forward and then move to Back to the Sewers.
Time Travel to the future
youtube
(Fast Forward Intro)
(Fast Forward) Season 6 starts with the turtles accidentally time traveling to the future, year 2105 to be precise. Thatâs 100 years from the current timeline. ItÂŽs a risky idea but not bad, right?
But here is the problem: There were already unexplored main plotlines that needed to be developed: KaraiŽs possibe redemption, the foot clan, Hun, etc. Instead of finishing those arcs that were already established in the series the writers/producers decided to jump to a completely new setting that had almost nothing to do with things that were previously explored.
So thatŽs one of the biggest problems with this season. If this was a spin off, this wouldnŽt be an issue at all. ThatŽs because the audience would know that the spin off exists as its own thing and it isnŽt part of the main series. Watching šFast Forwardš was weird to me. It was like i was watching other series but with the same characters.
Before talking more about the problems i have with this season. LetÂŽs talk about what i enjoyed:
I really liked the arc about Cody learning to be his own person and realizing how his uncle was manipulating him (if not abusing him). His relationship with the turtles and Splinter is really sweet. It was nice to see how they took care of him and he let them live with them while he was reparing the time machine.
Bishop episodes are really good. I wished we could seen more of him. The idea of him getting redeemed and forming an alien alliance is very interesting.I always saw Bishop as well intentioned extremist, In the sense he believed he was helping people with his horrible methods. I like how he recognizes he did terrible things in the past and he is trying to make up for his crimes.
I enjoyed some of the slice of life moments. It helped developing the characters in a way that allowed me to see what they do when they are fighting aliens or the foot clan. For example: One of my favourite episodes is Raph and Leo going to wrestling match and chaos ensues. That episode explores RaphŽs passion for wrestling, something i think the series didnŽt before.
I like the concept of the šDark Turtlesš. Yeah, i know it is a bit ridiculous but i would have been great had the series given them a proper redemption arc since it was implied they werenŽt really that bad. ( DNA is thicker than water in one of my favourite episodes of Fast Foward).
Now that i have talked about the things i liked iÂŽm going to move to my problems with season 6.
I think that one of the reasons i feel conflicted about Fast Foward is due to the lack of actual plot or stakes. It feels like things are happening but at the same time they arenŽt. Many episodes have more mundane premises. The villains are less intimidanting and they donŽt add too much to the story. There are some good episodes like šThe Journalš and the one about Mikey training but overall it is like the writing itself is dull and boring.
It would have been better had the writers focus on developing the characters better (like Raph having problems with adjusting to the future). There are concepts that are great. The thing is that they later get dropped or forgotten (Dark turtles subplot). There could have been an entire arc about Bishop helping the turtles with getting back to their time as a way to make up for his actions.
Speaking of the time portal, that thing is brought up in only the first episodes and then its barely mentioned again in the season. Like.. wasnÂŽt the main plot about them getting back to their respective timeline? ItÂŽs like the main characters were so comfortable living in the future that they forgot about their main goal. There episodes that are just about them hanging out instead of finding a solution. ItÂŽs okay to have slice of life moments while they are waiting for the machine to get repaired but it could have been at least hinted that is Cody is working on it.
Fast Forward would have worked better had the crew of show put more effort into writing the story, thinking what they wanted to do with the characters and explored concepts that were interesting. And before you ask: No, i donÂŽt think this season being more lighthearted is an issue, the real problems is that writing itself is sloppy and isnÂŽt as good as previous seasons.
Back To The Sewers
youtube
(Back to the Sewers Intro)
Season 7Žs main plot is about the turtles trying to find all the šbytesš that made Splinter after he was disintegrated in Cyberspace. Many episodes are about them enterting in Cyberspace and looking for these bytes to make Splinter whole again. The team also has to deal with a new type of Shredder that is a fusion of viral and Ultrom ShredderŽs memories. (More of that later)
Things i like from šBack To The Sewersš
DonatelloŽs character arc: It was very refreshing to see another side of Donnie. At the started of the season he blamed himself for losing Splinter (something he had not control of). His arc is kinda similar to LeoŽs arc in Season 4 except he was able to let go his guilt more easily than Leonardo. Unlike Leo, Donnie wasnŽt so afraid of failure as he was obsessed with fixing the problem to the point he isolated himself.
I really like how the Cyberspace and the real world are connected with one another in this season. Some episodes have premises that are downright terrifying such as getting stuck in a false parallel reality or people hacking and rewriting your memories. I think this season had very interesting concepts that much like Fast Foward they didnÂŽt reach its fullest potential.
Casey and AprilŽs relationship was fantastic. It was sweet to watch Casey proposing marriage to April. Their wedding was great conclusion for their relationship too. I like how Casey struggles with asking April and how Raph helps him. ItŽs definitely one of the highlights of Back to the Sewers.
What went wrong with Season 7?
First of all, i think that one of the biggest issues was how short the season was. It has only 13 episodes to develop the main plot and characters. For that reason good concept donÂŽt get enough time to be explored. They are introduced and dropped in one episode. I would have love to watch a three part story arc of the turtles getting brainwashed to make them believe that they work for the Foot Clan. I mean, that was creepy when i watched it.
If season 7 had 20 episodes-for example- then there would have been more time for the main plot to be better paced. What happened in reality is that with 13 episodes it made arcs feel rushed. Some things were left unanswered, dropped or forgotten.
Another issue i have is the lack of Karai content in this season. Season 5 ended with her falling in love and she was never seen again. I know she gets redeemed in the film but it is really weird how she goes to April and CaseyŽs wedding in the finale and she is never mentioned by the Foot Clan in Back to the Sewers. They could written an episode about how she left the Foot Clan and how she wants to settle down.. just something to learn what happened to her.
Speaking of the Foot Clan... Why they had to bring up Shredder again for this Season? Why just not make Viral the main antagonist? She was fine as a villain, Why in the world they needed to bring him back? There are so many other characters that could have antagonists for this story.Â
Virtual Shredder brings up tons of questions as well. When did ChÂŽrell deciced to upload his memory on the Cyberspace. Why not on a spaceship or computer? Why on the web? ItÂŽs so weird.
My last point would that Back to the Sewers had potential to be a darker season because of its themes and story yet is very lighthearted despite how twisted some concepts were. I wished they could been taken more seriously with having actual consequences for jumping into Cyberspace, how risky it is and what would happen if someone got trapped in there.
So there you have it. Note that i donŽt think the last two seasons are horrible, in fact i have fun watching them. I just donŽt understand what went wrong with the production that made the show suffer such a downgrade in quality. Maybe the producers thought the series was getting štoo darkš and decided to write a more lighthearted show. Maybe there were new writers in last seasons, that may explain why the writing became more dull. I wished the Tmnt 2003 would have gotten better treatment that the one it got.

Reki and Langaâs dynamic
Itâs speculation at my part and a shameless rant on what i like about sk8 just to get it off my chest Iâve been so fixated help
itâs 5am Iâm at uni and i have a shit ton to do, am I really gonna make an essay about sk8 instead? yes abso-fucking-lutely. strap on to your metaphorical skateboards kids. this is going to be long ride
this isnât to call out anyone lol so in case you get that impression Iâm sorry. I understand everyone is out to interpret media in whatever they like and thatâs fine, but sometimes i feel like either some missed some points of the story? anyway here are my thoughts tho
alright so what i absolutely love about sk8 is how they didnât make anyone into a genius.Genius is a mockery of the hardships everyone does to attain that level of skills. And no Langa is not a genius or a prodigy which I will explain later. Iâve seen enough shounen animes back in the day and usually itâs âannoying heart of gold beginner vs. calm and collected geniusâ they usually hate each otherâs guts and bicker all the time though secretly, deep down care for each other but would rather die than admit it dynamic. While Iâm glad weâre moving past that, I really thought Reki and Langa would be like that so....
imagine my surprise when Langa was the âbeginnerâ in skating. He has the potential to be a second sasuke here lol. (blue, handsome, cool) but no he isnât. heâs an adorable idiot, an airhead, head empty only skating dude and i love it.Â
Reki as well. He could have been the usual protagonist. (sucks at his sport, loud, hardworking, and by the power of friendship he suddenly beats everyone else which i think is pretty overused at this point, donât you think?) some people complain how Reki despite being the MC isnât given screentime and hasnât won a single beef. (and sure thatâs true. he should have won some and langa lose some but we only have 12 eps so lol) but heâs not the usual protagonist you know? and sk8 isnât about winning. if it was, I think they would have focused on the techniques. the hows and the what to do.
Idk if you noticed, but sports anime with winning in its goal would often explain in detail certain techniques. (see haikyuu) but shows like Free and Yuri on Ice isnât exactly talking about how to win that seriously as Haikyuu did. Itâs more focusing on the feelings and how their lives are affected with their passion for this sport. itâs about the character development!!! and i think SK8 is something like that too. It explores the characterâs feelings rather than sport. (like what i tell my sister, they use the sport as a character device if that makes sense?)
this was literally in the opening lol. itâs really about the feelings you know?
so anyway itâs been pointed out several times that Reki was already feeling insecure about his skills in skating since ep 1 way before Langa came. But he still likes to skate and despite feeling never enough, he still enjoyed it. (some also pointed out that Rekiâs reason of going into a beef against Shadow has been because he insulted his way of skating not because he wanted to be the best) so the show from the get go was already hinting at his self esteem issues.
this also implies that Reki has always been feeling like this in a while, added with his tendencies to bottle things up, it makes sense that heâll blow up at some point and heâll need to release all of those feelings. (so yeah i think this is just the right amount of eps for their fall out. i see some people complaining shush. otherwise it would also feel too rushed. this is years weighing him)
and i guess itâs also implied in here heâs had days like these too in the past! seriously itâs an ongoing problem heâs been carrying. i think 3 eps is pretty good enough pace to internalize it
so point: Reki was already down way before Langa came. langa just added to that. And donât go blaming Langa cause the boy did nothing wrong.
Consider that Langa just lost his dad (i think we need more backstory on this though. please sdsjkdksl i need little Langa and his dad interactions) he just moved countries, and the only connection to his dad (snowboarding) is gone cause it doesnât snow in OKinawa
though one also argues that Langa hasnât been snowboarding since his dad was gone.
so for Langa, Reki introducing skating to him was revolutionary. Youâre someone grieving over the death of what is probably the most important person in your life, the thing you love the most no longer gives you joy (as was shown in the flashbacks and basically Langa going âitâs the sameâ) and youâre in a new country with a language you barely are fluent. you canât even read or write, and you barely have friends granted you donât have much back in the day. itâs horrible.
and then this guy you barely know talks to you, befriends you, helps you get a job, and teaches you something you thought youâve lost and through that you made more friends??
yeah you see why Langa likes Reki. You also see why heâs obsessed with skating. Itâs kind of like a coping, a fixation. plus heâs bad with social cues i guess? the interview says heâs likely to get dumped for being too inattentive lmao and thatâs what makes him interesting!
also the thing that really surprised me when they first interacted was how supportive Reki is to Langa. it also got to me with how much Langa thinks highly of Reki. Again a deviation to the âi say i hate you but deep down i care for youâ trope. theyâre full on supportive and protective. i like that. itâs fresh to me. I thought Reki was going to the tsundere âhmph thatâs not a big dealâ route at the start of ep 2 but heâs really amazed. (kinda also says heâs been very desperate for someone to share skating with but thatâs another topic)
so Reki teaches Langa how to skate. and Langa sucks. Which was interesting to me because I thought Langa would be some flawless prince-like character. But nah. He trips and faints at his own blood lol. Heâs so uncool and i love it.
Some people say Langa is over powered with a thick ass plot armor which gets him to win (which is why i see people saying he should have won against Joe and I actually agree that Langa should lose some beefs but again only 12 eps, so little time)
but I still wanna talk about it anyway so itâs revealed Langa was snowboarding since 2. Thatâs 15 years. I think that should be around the same time Joe and Cherry should be skating. and i think if you start earlier as a kid, your body develops differently. (should Langa, âan amateurâ win against Joe a pro? the question falls more on whether you can classify Langa as an amateur) i think itâs like Langa being very used to motorcycle tricks from age 2 then suddenly heâs using a regular bicycle, and sure the feeling is mostly the same but thereâs just something off. Your body doesnât easily forget what you know, especially if it did it for 15 years. and so Reki customizes a board for Langa so itâll feel exactly like snowboarding
So Langa has a customized board that he needed to get used to before he went pro. He really sucked the first few eps lmao. but thatâs more of him getting used to the new rules. he pretty much told Reki in ep 2 that he canât do a skateboard ollie, but he can do a snowboard one bec itâs attached to his feet.
(i may just want to add that one thing i also like about sk8 is that it really doesnât care what you need for accommodation? if thatâs how you do it best, then go for it. When Langa says to Reki he canât do the ollie without the board attached to his feet, Reki immediately goes his way to accommodate him. usually people in real life might say âitâs not real skateboarding if you need a modification etc. but look at Cherry with a freaking AI board and people are like yeah whatever do what you want man. whatever rolls your board.)
so anyway Langa vs. Joe with Langa winning despite being an amateur? if you can even call him an amateur that is. Plus all his tricks are snowboarding tricks lol. everything heâs done is testament to his 15 years of snowboarding?? We donât even know how good Langa is in snowboarding. Someone make a post about how difficult the snowboarding equivalent of those tricks Langa has done just to show people it means heâs pretty pro (Iâll even argue maybe Langaâs real talent is his creative ways of going around things which kind of why Adam is highkey obsessed, and calls Cherry who calculates everything to the last second boring but thatâs a different can of worms Iâm opening later) plus Langa barely won against Joe so thereâs not much difference in level i think. Should Langa have lost though?
I think some have missed the point of that beef in Rekiâs pov. and if the Renga reconciliation is done well, it would be worth it.
that beef got Reki to realize he what he really wants! that itâll kill him if he canât skate anymore! that he doesnât wanna only cheer on for others and be a support! THAT HE WANTS TO SKATE BY LANGAâS SIDE WHICH IS THE REASON FOR ALL THIS INSECURITIES if Langa lost, that cathartic realization might not have happened. He might have gone to Langa and cheered him up, brushed off his insecurities and, made up with Langa halfheartedly without addressing his problems
Iâm going to go back to Rekiâs insecurities. In ep 6 heâs been afraid of being left behind, and sure Langa came back for him but he still forgot until midway. (will that parallel how Langa got too excited with the idea of skating, the same feeling he thought he lost forever. The same thing that he thinks connects him with his dad, and might have left Reki behind, but later remembers and goes back to chase him? hopefully) in ep 4 itâs obvious heâs afraid of the near death experience Adam gave him, and heâs just realized how different their skills were. in ep 5 he worries about Langa, enough to get nightmares about it. mixed with his friend getting hurt. itâs obvious the feelings are very very muddled there.
So he begs Langa not to skate with Adam.
And what did Langa do? say that he wanted to skate with Adam. (again heâs not the most attentive. he probably thinks heâs just skating with his best friend, all is good then boom. Reki leaves. as a person shit with dealing with other people, i donât blame him at all) heâs trying to fix it though, but his bond with Reki primarily revolves around skating! how else was he going to warm up with Reki? He also doesnât know that Reki has self esteem issues thatâs always been there since the beginning. He probably doesnât understand it too because he holds Reki up highly. in ep 6 when Reki was going over his board, Langa thinks heâs pretty cool. he didnât hear what other said to Reki. Heâs earnestly having fun with his friend
We should also note that Reki was never angry at Langaâs skills, he wasnât resentful that Langa was far ahead. Again heâs been nothing but supportive. He doesnât want to pull Langa down. He wasnât like Miyaâs friends that lashed out at Miya for being better. in ep 7 he tries his best to follow Langa
it feels like heâs mostly regretful that he canât catch up. he doesnât want Langa to slow down, he wants to go faster and meet him where he was. So it makes the realization that all he wants to do was be in equal with Langa more frustrating because he thinks he canât keep up. (and this only ever started when he heard heâs like Langaâs plus one. thereâs that daunting feeling about being pulled around. not being his equal)Â
if you need further proof, when Langa and Joe were having a beef, he wasnât aggressively hoping Langa would lose. in fact he encouraged him. He worries deeply He calls him out when he was doing badly. Still very supportive as ever. So really the frustration isnât to Langa, again, itâs all internal. He wants to be better
so heâs feeling shit and Langa goes to him in the middle of the rain, bless langa for trying, thinking talking about skating (what he thinks Reki loves and would probably cheer him up, not knowing thatâs exactly his problem) tells him
which is probably the worst he could say.
THATâS what got Reki mad, not really Reki being insecure though thatâs part of it, thatâs what theyâre fighting about, Reki is angry heâs breaking his promise. He thinks Langa doesnât care about Reki, that heâll easily break a promise between them that Reki obviously cares about just so he can go skate with Adam who is way better than him. It blows to the self esteem. Reki probably also think that if only he was better, langa wouldnât bother skating with someone that dangerous. it doesnât help at all.
but langa doesnât know this. he doesnât see all this. Langa might have been too up the high of skating like in ep 6, he sorta left Reki behind again.
it kinda makes Langaâs momâs words hit harder though
and he did just that. he got too engrossed.
It parallels adam, cherry and joeâs friendship then probably tadahsiâs too but who knows? reki and langa, and tadashi and adam might parallel too, the master and the student thingy Adam might have gotten too obsessed. So Joe trying his best to make sure Reki and Langa wonât end up like them hits a little harder in my chest ;â)
but Langa wonât be to engrossed i think
because unlike Adam whoâs aggressively looking for his âequalâ, Langa is just looking for someone who makes his heart beat, to make him feel like heâs skating with his dad again, someone he loves dearly. (thereâs a parallel about loves here too between Adamâs and Langaâs. but I canât write it now) and he probably already thinks Reki is his equal anyway. He just wants to have fun. he doesnât think much about the skills.
maybe at first he does. thatâs why heâs drawn to Adam but from ep 9, it was pretty much shown that skills really doesnât matter from when he skated against Joe
if Adam easily discarded his friends because he think theyâre boring (which was why the whole skateboard to the face thing with Cherry), langa doesnât think like that
if anything Reki is important to Langa because he only has fun skating with Reki, who taught him how to skate and made his board. (his board that was customized to fit his style btw, and arguably the only reason he could skate that well. without it, he might as well be a beginner once again.) so without reki, langa is left with nothing. especially with his broken board
no fun in skating, no way of skating. Heâs only manage to get this far because of Reki and he knows that now. All of it would be pointless if he doesnât have Reki (and either he gets so obsessed in chasing that feeling again, or he stops completely) but in case you havenât noticed it, Langaâs motivation revolves around having fun with skating no matter the skill or place. And heâs having most fun with Reki.
But Reki obviously doesn't know Langaâs feelings. He thinks Langa was forever looking for someone better. So heâs still caught up in the idea that Langa wonât want to skate with him (even though Langa has never shown this) and he left S entirely, thinking what he wants is impossible. fucking just talk you two motherfucker
(I also wanna point out that Reki has always been shown from episode one to be good at making boards. And thatâs amazing? We need some support recognition and appreciation, seriously) I think maybe most who find problem with Reki not winning beefs like the usual shounen protags arenât used to the nuance and perspective of being someone âordinaryâ. Rekiâs character is relatable because most of us feel ordinary, never enough, surrounded by geniuses, âinferiorâ. And if weâre being realistic since a lot are saying joe should have won because langa winning is unrealistic and you want realism so bad no Iâm not salty at all there will always be someone better than you. ALWAYS. but whatâs important is for you to have fun in what you love! in what makes you happy! AND even if youâre not good at one thing (in Rekiâs part, skating) heâs also good at other things (making boards) so does he need to stop one for the other? no. Heâs shown to enjoy skating with Langa, he doesnât wanna stop it hurts him so much he quit. But he can also hone his skills in making boards as well as skate. Heâs equal with Langa in a way he doesnât even notice when he made that board for Langa, but even Rekiâs presence alone makes Langa enjoy skating the way Reki also wants Langa by his side.
So I think the next ep is the best time to confront all these feelings. And how it happens might be whatâs tricky. Like romantic or not, i personally can read it both ways though i prefer if they do become canon. (idk if itâs queerbaiting. i guess friends can care as deeply as that but ngl, these shounen bestfriends having deep connections that are written off as friends while also giving us bland af hetero love interests who did nothing but exist and be straight really is messing with my perception of romantic and platonic love irl) anyway their talk better be done really well, or else all those episodes of tension would be for nothing
Itâs a nice perspective to give a shounen protagonist this time. Itâs new, itâs fresh. How many incarnations of underdog turned the best at their craft can you take? variety is nice! and if you donât like it, there are always a dozen other animes like that for you to turn to. to conclude, IT ALL GOES BACK TO THE START: WHAT IS YOUR HAPPINESS???! AND FOR THEM ITâS THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP BUT IN A VERY DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE. FRIENDSHIP DOESNâT Â SUDDENLY GET YOU TO LEVEL 100000000000 TO DEFEAT THE FINAL BOSS. FRIENDSHIP IS WHAT MAKES DEFEATING THE FINAL BOSS WORTHWHILE
Anyway tldr; maybe the real Eve is the friends we made along the way :DÂ and idk if Iâm making sense but obviously Iâm head empty only sk8. Renga needs to talk, i canât believe they have the audacity to make a recap episode as if i wasnât head empty only sk8 since february, and if thereâs more emotional edging to come, i will burn some of the palm trees outside my house

crisana, norandro, jorgeva and amira x dani
ha, anon just wanted all the canon couples. fair enough!
CRISANA:
see, skam s3 is my favorite season of all time, but it has never been because of the love story. isak's story hits in a lot of sensitive places for me, and isak was also the first main character i encountered that was my age. i have a really special connection to him for that reason. on the other hand... i enjoy evak for what it is, but i never saw a future for their relationship after the season ended. in a lot of ways, isak's season ended just as their relationship started, a trope that i've never liked because how am i supposed to think that they will last? how am i supposed to know how they will work as a couple? it's just, ugh.
i had similar thoughts about crisana when i watched s2, except that the love confession scene and cris as a character made it even harder to get into the couple. moreover, the way people brush other characters' roles and presence on other seasons because they're so caught up on cris and joana is like... blegh. like it makes me forget that they're actually a well-written couple at times. because imo, og they never did anything really interesting with evak once they got together. but eskam........ oh, dear eskam.
there's something so beautiful about thinking of all the girls, the teenagers that will grow up watching a relationship like theirs on popular media. their entire subplot (??? can i even call it that) in s4 is proof of how GREAT of a relationship they turned out to be. like, i just wanna SCREAM thinking about it because, how is it possible that eskam saw evak and said "we're gonna make this SO good and we'll take our time and then tie it up in an incredibly satisfying and emotional way" and then did exactly that!!!!!! the way they respect each other, communicate, genuinely try to get to each other without dumb miscommunication. the way they understand each other and lift each other up! the way joana knew how to recognize cris' intelligence when everyone was telling her she's dumb, the way cris knows how to make joana feel worth it and show her affection in such a selfless, loving way. their last scene on joana's pov in s4 was the first time i cried during that season, just because it was all wrapped up so beautifully. because eskam understood that although the appeal of their relationship comes from the soulmate status of every evak couple, they had to also put in serious work to make it all work and they also managed to get that across with grounded drama, and also a hopeful message for people struggling with mental disorders. like AAAAAAAAAAAAA god what a great couple they are. maybe i'm too much of an eskam bootlicker but they're genuinely the best evak there is. i'll die on this hill. i'm so happy young wlw get to watch them as a guideline of what they should expect of a relationship.
NORANDRO: already done :)
JORGEVA:
i mean... it's eskam's fault, without a doubt. i love what eskam did with them in s1: the change of pacing, the way they created jorge, the little story changes to make it more nuanced, i think come together in a pretty satisfying way to show a teenage romance with no real support to last for more than a while. i donât think eskam fully got the gist of what jonas was supposed to be, but itâs for the better if we think of the message in season 1. for that reason, jorge is like the one jonas who i really wouldnât mind coming back to his eva. so why donât i like them?
the answer is simply that i donât enjoy their trope and i donât think eskam made a real case of eva and jorge getting back together. they work well as friends, sure, and itâs clear as day that jorge still has feelings for eva, sure. but like, what tells me that theyâre just ready to go all in again? eva goes through a really great arc and i would definitely agree sheâs in a good place to be in a relationship again, but we know NOTHING about jorgeâs journey. heâs just, silently pining on eva and thatâs it. i do think itâs sweet and the hints of their lost romance throughout the show are wholesome, but thereâs just nothing more to it. jorge and eva work AMAZINGLY as friends! i donât see why they should push a romantic endgame for them. in my head, eva kissing jorge at that party was just a mesh of the excitement of a new era, the nostalgia of ending highschool, the high of being on this place with someone she really cares about, stuff like that, but it just ends there, and itâs great that way. nothing about evaâs character really led to her aching to be in a relationship again, and for me it feels right to end things with her being single and surrounded by great friends.
MAYBE if eskam had devoted some time showing us their progress and romantic potential instead of trying to convince us that kasim was a real, compelling character. maybe. lol.
DAMIRA:
(god, i donât know how long this will be LOL)
i have. so many thought about this fucking pairing. letâs see what we can do LOL. the thing about damira is that i donât think itâs a pairing that eskam had in mind when they laid out the first two seasons. the little hints of a friendship/childhood crush that happened during crisâ season really got the fandom and they quickly became the most popular non-canon ship in the show, so thatâs where i think eskam said âokay, letâs run with thisâ. but itâs just...... meh. like i can tell that relationships like crisana were carefully crafted (well implemented in noraâs season, greatly wrapped up in amiraâs season) but i cannot say the same for dani and amira. itâs almost like virihugo, where they just started giving each other Eyes on the middle of season 3, out of NOWHERE. it just feels forced to me and so i never really felt anything for the couple in question... like, for starters, i think nora and miquel were WAY more shippable than those two, strictly talking about their setup.
if you ever saw any of my posts during s4 then you should know how i actually feel about how they developed their romance (check my anti damira tag for more?) and i donât wanna go through all those specific points again... but damira is not only an infuriating romance, but also a bad pairing in a narrative setting. like, damira clearly exists to answer amiraâs questions about how would the future of a romance with a white guy would be, right? does she get an answer? no she fucking doesnât, their final clip is like âafter all these weeks, we still have no idea so weâre gonna cut things short, go back to our initial dynamic, and wait to see if amira any of us change our minds <3âł. so like, even in that sense damira is a HUGE waste of time, and just like everything that happens to amira during her season it has no lasting impacts on her character or her settings.
and personally, i love couples where theyâre both equal, and communicate at last, and both make great efforts to change so the relationship can flourish. this is why i offer so much praise to norandro and crisana, where in the first couple both character go through tremendous character growth and work through their problems individually before getting together, and in the second couple they show them clashing and fighting just to display their resolutions and show how willing they are to actually talk to each other and keep their relationship stable. dani and amira, on the other hand.... blegh. eskam wants me to think dani is a knight in shining armor for liking amira but thatâs all he ever does. he doesnât defend her in front of his friends, he doesnât make efforts to get to know her and her world, he doesnât communicate his real feelings to her, and the one time he did he humiliated her in public. like, idk, like, even MIQUEL explicitly defended nora when his roommates berated her for not drinking alcohol LOL.
at the end of the day the problem with damira is that it completely misses the point of yousana and its target audience. making yousef a white guy is not necessarily a bad choice if you implement it well (which eskam didnât do btw), but you have to take into account that sanaâs season exists to make a primarily white christian-raised audience relate and stand up for the muslim characters in the show. when the lazier partner of the main couple who makes zero efforts to work on the relationship happens to be white, it just means people will be sympathetic of him, and nor amira - and thatâs exactly what happened in the show. people either thought amira was being too harsh by laying conditions for dani before they even began dating and making sure he respected her boundaries, or just wanted all the drama to go away soon so amira could kiss dani by the end of the season. so like, yeah. terrible stuff.
i wouldâve liked damiraâs impact on the season and amiraâs journey a lot more if it had been about a one sided childhood crush from amiraâs part. i thought their friendship was charming up to s3, and i simply hate that dani is literally in no way an older brother figure for the girl squad, since itâs a dynamic thatâs lacking in the show and it would be a nice way to make dani be some sort of non-creepy eskild for the girl squad (but noooo, his only interactions w the gs are hooking up with eva and dating amira. smh). it wouldâve been fun to have amira intimately dealing with those feelings just to learn a lesson by the end of it, at the time that she also falls for her muslim love interest - which is actually the isak/jonas/even dynamic when you think about it, also something that eskam didnât really do with crisâ season. but also, all of this would mean that eskam had to do the good writing thing for s4, which they kinda forgot to do throughout the entirety of the season so, yeah.
#answered#skam españa#crisana#jorgeva#damira#i don't think this warrants the a/nti tag but let me know if you think otherwise!

on land where we can touch the moon (2/?)
PART 1 PART 3
A quick note- this is pretty messy. I'm planning as I write, so there'll be information scattered across the words, and it may be overwhelming...kinda. I have added a little note about what happened in this chapter in the end. This series is also up on ao3.
There is, naturally, a reason Azul was stuck with the name 'The Sea Merchant'.
It wasn't a bad name, and there was no hint of degradation in it. It just wasn't particularly suiting. Azul wasn't a merchant. He wasn't even a shopkeeper. He was just invested in a little magic, and this hobby of his got leaked out somehow.Â
His magic was certainly something. It's A Deal allowed him to confiscate another person's valued quality in exchange for their wish. Anything could come to life as long as the deal was equal.
Only the drunk and people in desperate need of help ever went to him for help. After Azul had started mastering his magic, he reckoned that it hadn't been used to its full potential. If the person on the other side of the deal failed to meet the requirement, Azul could take even more from them without suffering any loss.Â
And so he sugarcoated and exaggerated his words, put up the most professional smile he could manage. For a few weeks all was well. He'd gained himself a melodious voice, splendid flexibility and a ton of unique magics, but nothing great ever lasted. He was soon exposed as a scammer and his notoriety was whispered among the streets, passed on and on until every family warned their kids not to ever run into him. And Azul, with his fame and prosperity wilting under the gossip and points of fingers, was forced into giving up his success.
He had been in hiding ever since.
He could never understand how something as atrocious could happen to him. If it hadn't been for the sneers and isolation in the entirety of his childhood, he wouldn't have grown up hating everything and everyone around him that called him ugly, unwanted, repulsive. It should've justified his desire for revenge.
Instead, God decided that his suffering was not anywhere close to enough and kicked him down the cliff where he was crying for help.
That being said, Azul was grateful to have Jade and Leech sticking around after everything. The two of them were also unpopular among others, so they eventually got close as a tight-knitted trio.
"No you didn't," Jade said firmly.Â
"I did, Jade. I did," Azul sighed, "They were dying, Jade, I couldn't just let them die,"
"Well, you should've."
"Don't be so uptight. Azul was doing the right thing, wasn't he?" Floyd winked. "So. Were they good-looking?"
"What?"
"The human. You must've saved them for a reason,"
Azul hated how Floyd's words implied that he would never do good unless there was something in it for him, but one could never lie in the face of truth.Â
"I just didn't want to let them die. It was their birthday,"
"What does that have to do with everything?" Jade asked. "You went above the water. You saved a human. You were almost caught. You could've died up there, you know. How did you even manage to breathe?"
"I just⊠did." Azul said, twirling his tentacles in nervousness. Jade was entirely disapproving of his actions, while Floyd on the contrary seemed to be mildly intrigued.Â
Everything still felt like a fever dream. All the fireworks and cheering and explosion were still vividly scorched into his mind as if they'd been put on repeat. The splendid colors, light giggles and-Â
And those beautiful eyes of yours. The way your hair flowed in the night sky with ease, how you laughed like tomorrow was promised and your life had been planned out before you, a clear and untainted path to success. Azul couldn't decide on whether he was jealous or amazed.
"Well, you better hope they didn't really see you, or that they forgot about it. If the humans come down here to hunt us down-" Jade couldn't even bear to finish the imagination. He simply shook his head in dismay.
"I swear I saw someone! I couldn't have just been washed ashore!"
"Apparently, you were," Jack said, stroding with large steps that had you panting to keep up. "Near-death experiences do things to our mind, your majesty,"
"That may be the case for others, but I'm sure I was conscious," you retorted. "I woke up to a pair of pale, azure eyes, then in a blink they were behind the rock. If it hadn't been for you-"
"I apologize for worrying about you, your majesty."
You bit your tongue. Fighting with Jack always ended with him being passive-aggressive and you stepping back reluctantly. Plus he was as stern as a rock. Almost nothing could move his belief.
Shouting and grunting could be heard from inside the medical room where Ace, Deuce and Grim were being tended to.
Jack flung open the door, and the three stumbled to get into the blankets and put on a excruciated expression.
"I see you're all healed up," Jack said. Ace hummed lowly and slapped his forehead with the back of his hand.Â
"I'm at death's door, commander. It pains me to say this, but I might need to take more days off,"
Jack was quiet for a while, and you could almost see a drop of sweat sliding down Ace's forehead.
"And you, Deuce?" Jack challenged.
"I'm traumatized,"Â
"And Grim?"
You arched your brow, at which he shivered in fear. "I- I'm feeling fine already,"
"So it's just Ace and Deuce, right?" Jack said. Ace and Deuce nodded their heads so hard they could fall off.
"Alright. Your health is of utmost importance to us, so I'll contact the Raven HealerâŠ"
"The what?!" Deuce's voice croaked.
"The Raven Healer. Surely you've heard of him. He's best known for being able to treat any diseases, both mentally and physically,"
You were sure there were sweats rolling down Ace's cheeks now. "But- but doesn't he heal by using bizzare mediciness"
"Oh yes. His magic is what makes him such an infallible doctor. You two seem to be in a lot of pain. I'm sure he'll free you of your suffering."
You turned sharply towards the door and stifled a laughter.Â
"That's⊠not very necessaryâŠ" Deuce's voice faltered word by word. He was fully aware that he'd already lost. "You know what, commander? I think I can dive back into work right this instant!"
Jack smirked smugly. "Splendid. And you, Ace?"
The two of them stared at each other so intensely there seemed to be sparkles between them. Finally, Ace gave in. "I'll start work tomorrow,"
They didn't even wait for Jack to walk completely out of the door to whine. They looked fully healthy, even more energized than you.
"Anyways, did you find your saviour?"
You sighed. Ace and Deuce were still skeptical about your 'story', which you'd corrected to 'experience', but at least they were open-minded.Â
"No clues. I've had guards patrolling about every two hours. Nothing has yet to happen,"
They eyed each other uneasily, then back at you with a worried face. Before they could make assumptions, you defended yourself. "No, I'm not sick. My head's not concussed,"
"Well," Grim scurried to your lap. "Perhaps your saviour doesn't wish to be found?"
That'd be unwanted. You would wish for anything but to create troubles for your lifesaver. Nonetheless, you knew you wouldn't be able to sleep without sending your gratitude.Â
Alright, there might be a selfish motif. You were admittedly curious about those light, pensive eyes and silvery, gleaming hair under sunlight. All these unknown were like a gravity pool, pulling you deeper and deeper into the mystery.
"Well, you ought not to lose hope," Ace patted your shoulder casually, like you weren't the princette of the kingdom he was serving for. "Maybe you'll actually run into him. Fate has a weird habit for setting unexpected traps."
It wasn't so much love as a tender curiosity, but the line segregating them was so flimsy that one's got to mix them up at some point.
Azul found himself in such a dilemma. He couldn't decide whether it was attraction or nosiness that he was feeling. Either way, it's got him hooked like a drug. Something beautiful had finally entered his life like light piercing through a thick fog of ink, and it was possessive. Azul had a feeling that it wouldn't go away until it had drained him of his mind.
The door to his room was thrown open and Azul had to hide the peeled petals and green stem in a jumble. He had been chanting 'they love me, they love me not' for the past hour. To his luck, Jade and Leech didn't seem to have noticed his haste expression. They were both panting when they swam inside.
"What's wrong?" Azul's first instinct was that something had gone south.
"There-" Floyd wheezed. "There's a sta-"
"There's a fallen statue in the Coral Maze," Jade finished the sentence. "People are fussing over it,"
"Okay," Azul eased back into his bed. He'd already lost interest at 'Coral Maze'. It was at the centre of where the majority of sea creatures inhabited. Nothing could make him go anywhere near civilization and its hubristic aesthetic again.
Or so he thought.
"No- you don't get it. It's a statue of a human that sank along with wreckages of a big ship, and it's made of gold,"
A statue made of gold.
He recalled it now. It was supposed to be your birthday present. The consternation of what followed the present revelation had been so intense that it'd washed the memory of the statue out.
"We just thought that it could be the statue you mentioned in your story, you know? It looked really grandâŠ" Floyd sighed.
Azul wanted to get up and swim over right there, right then, but he knew he couldn't. What would others say to him the moment they saw the shadows of their tentacles crawling on their pure and oh-so royal ground? What accusations would they throw his way? How many children will be led away from him like he was some man-eating, brutal abomination?
Not to mention the unforgiving rage he'd evoked in trying to scam them in the past. Dishonesty was highly criticised in their high-class society. It was as if they were saints that had never done one thing wrong. Bet they'd never even stayed up past midnight.
"You ought to come take a look!" Floyd suggested. A casual, friendly proposal.
"No," Azul snapped. "No, no. I'm not going there,"
"They're planning to use the gold," Jade said. "You know how they are. They see one thing from the ground and start screeching in pain,"
They were going to use your statue. The statue that was perhaps the only thing that was related to you, the one way to never have to forget about you again in case that you never met again.
And to imagine the effect it'd add to his collections! A big gold statue in the centre of his grotto, accentuated by the sparkling of other jewelries. It'd be complete.
"I'll sit on it," Azul decided. He was not to act rashly, lest he walked one step wrong and brought upon himself misery and misfortune. If he really was to pay a visit, he would act in secret. Perhaps in the veil of the night.Â
"Just don't act alone, okay?" Jade said. Azul nodded despite not paying any mind to him.
In the dead of the night Azul decided to sneak out. Alone. It was a mistake, really. Azul couldn't stop thinking about your statue, and by the time he realized how absurd it was, he'd already gone to the Coral Maze.
There was nary a shadow except his own. Still, it was much lighter than where he lived even at night. The distorted image of the moon waved from above as Azul made his way through the many identical corals. Then he finally found your majestic statue standing solemnly in the centre. The only beauty in the water.
It was a sight for sore eyes. White, pure light reflected off the gold and created streams of gleams onto the ground. That someone would ever find it to be disgraceful was incomprehensible to Azul. Something like this deserved to be put on display in the museum for all to see.
There was no radiance on your face and no splendid colors in your eyes. It was merely a fraction of what you were. Nonetheless, it was enough for Azul.
"Who's roaming there?" an alerted voice asked. When Azul turned, he saw a silhouette looming from outside the Coral Maze, holding two anglerfishes in hands and waving them in the water.
Panic was the only thing Azul felt as he hid behind the statue, struggling to keep his tentacles out of sight. The light stayed right in front of him for a while before skimming away.
Azul grabbed the statue and swam, pushing his tentacles through the water as hard as he could.Â
"Wait there- oh goodness!"Â
There were several voices now, mumbling and inquiring. Then light was casted upon his flitting figure and there were bemused gasps before someone yelled, "Seize him!"
Azul was out of breath. He wished he excelled in fitness but instead he was stuck with incongruous tentacles that would never cooperate at the most needed times.
A hand grasped the end of his tentacle but slipped off. He kept the statue tight in his arms, as if his life depended on it. He could tell that they were near now, and was trying very hard not to imagine the gruesome outcomes.
Someone grabbed his tentacles. He faltered and was pulled back despite protests.
"Keep him in place!" another person yelled as the crowd moved to keep Azul fenced in.
Azul couldn't see anything. Everything was a poor mixture of shadow and distaste and sneers. He was probably going to die right there.
"I can't believe you have the guts to come back, Ashengrotto. After all the things you've done!" someone spoke up.
"Yeah! How shameless of you!â
"And he's stealing our properties now! Imagine how desperate he is,"
"You guys don't even want it!" Azul said.
Some guy lurched forward. Azul cowered backwards.
"It's disgusting, yes, but it's still gold." he said as if it was a completely just thing to do. "It landed on our ground, so it belongs to us. On the contrary, you don't have the rights to lay your filthy hands on it. What more do you want to steal from us?"
"I'm taking this because none of you understand the beauty of it!"
This evoked a negative reaction from the crowd, but words could never be taken back. Azul could feel his heart pounding like a prisoner hellbent on escaping. He had to escape. No more of this degrading gazes. No more of the points of fingers.
"Beauty?" the guy scoffed, and for a moment his face scrunched up and he was ready to spit out rage, but then it softened into a smug smirk. "I guess only ugly understands ugly, huh?"
Azul's head throbbed.
"It doesn't justify your actions, ink-blasting thief. Hand that piece of trash over right- uff!"
He was flung deep into the water until he disappeared into nothing but a black dot. People around Azul immediately made way as they fled in screams and wails. His tentacle was still tingling with the impact, but he couldn't quite feel it. Even if he did, he couldn't care less as he skyrocketed to the surface of the water. He blinked and blinked, but his eyes were still blurred by what would be mixed into the seawater eventually.Â
He'd had enough. Heard enough, seen enough. If he'd spent one more second down there he would have suffocated to death.
The familiar freshness of air welcomed him the moment he broke through the water's persistence. The land wasn't far ahead. He swam towards it as if it was his sanctuary.Â
There was a man sitting on the rock, face hidden under the hood. Azul considered retreating. He had no idea what would happen to him if he was spotted, but nothing better would happen if he were to go back. So he continued swimming and crawled onto the cool soft sand, only letting his head be seen by the man as he hid behind yet another rock where he placed the much valued statue.
He seemed to be asleep, chest heaving up and down at a steady pace. Just as Azul started sliding out, the man raised his head and looked straight at Azul.
They were a pair of humming, white circles, seemingly void of any sentiments. The man had a mask on that shielded his face except for his tightly shut lips. Two crows were staring right at him with the same uncanny manner.
"You've finally arrived," the man said.
Probably the humans had been searching for him. Azul decided to keep his mouth shut.
"I've been hearing your callsâŠ" he tilted his head. "You can come out. I know what you are,"
Azul still hesitated. But he was much closer to the ocean than to the guy, so he slowly let his tentacles into light.
The man remained calm, not a bit taken back by the revelation.
"Well, I've been hearing your callsâŠ" he resumed.
"I never called out to any humans,"
"Not literally. But you have been calling out a lot," he smiled amiably. "You have to know that it's especially hard for me to hear from creatures undersea, so if your wishes managed to reach me, it means you're pretty desperate,"
"I think you have the wrong person," Azul said and started retreating.
The guy sprang up and his crows curled up together beside him. "Wait- I should introduce myself first. I'm the Raven Healer,"
Azul pondered for a while. "That doesn't explain anything except for the crows,"
"You lots haven't heard of me?" he frowned so deep that his brows and eyes were a cluster. "You guys are really secluded,"
That was when Azul finally realized that he knew about them. About all the lives and creatures that inhabited the deep sea.
"And I mean no harm to your realm. My only target is you," he smiled again, this time at an ominous angle.
"Well, I'm quite famous in this realm. I heal people for a living, whether it be physical or emotional needs. Anything you need, I can grant you,"
That's not very different from Azul's magic.Â
"Sometimes, when someone is really desperate for a change, their thoughts can be heard by my crows. And you, Azul AshengrottoâŠ" his smile dropped a bit and his eyes drooped. "is particularly distressed,"
"Alright. It was nice meeting you," Azul nodded respectfully. The man didn't seem to be harmful. If he fled right now, he could probably throw him off.
The Raven Healer stilled, then burst into piles of blatant laughter. "No, no. I've been looking for you, don't you get it? I'm here to grant your wish!"
I'm here to grant your wish. Like how Azul'd promoted his business as the Sea Merchant.
"I understand that you've been suffering quite a lot, and that you want a change. But nothing ever comes without a cost⊠I'm sure you can understand,"
The healer stood up, the material of his greatcoat fluttering in the wind. He made his way freely to Azul, who could only freeze up as he inspected the statue with great interest.
"The heir to the throne! I see why you're desperate now. They're a real catch," the healer then looked down at the outstretched tentacles without a word. Azul prayed in his mind that he would turn away from them.
"Well, here are my terms. I will grant you a pair of legs in exchange for your magic,"
Wait, what?
Azul was pretty sure the Raven Healer was just imitating him now. A great figure appearing out of the blue to answer your hopes. The catch was that the figure would always take away your most important thing. It was never a fair deal, Azul was aware.
"I don't think you need my magic," Azul breathed.
"Why, I do!" he exclaimed. "Collecting magic is a splendid hobby of mine! It is because of all these magic that I am such a renowned magician,"
He was obviously lying. His smile couldn't reach his eyes, and the orbs where his eyes were supposed to be were humming like a hazard label.
"I think I'll be just fine," Azul hurriedly brought the statue to his chest and started sliding away.
"...How are you going to survive?"
"What?" Azul swiveled, exhausted.
"Up here. With yourâŠ" the healer wiggled his fingers.
"I'll find a way,"
"No you won't," the healer protested. Azul looked up to the sky, took a deep breath and decided to entertain him.Â
"Why so?"
"You're gonna cause ruckus. Chaos. People are not especially used to seeing half-man half-octopuses roaming their land," he said honestly.Â
Despite knowing all this, Azul still considered his word rude. There was a thin line between blunt and disrespectful, and he'd just crossed it.Â
"There won't be anyone dealing with you, will there?"
"...I suppose not-"
"Exactly! I am your only hope!" he exclaimed once again, throwing his hands up in the air like a dramatist. "Unless you want to go back?"
Azul glanced at the serene water. He knew that down there, the mermaids and mermen must be panicking over what'd just happened.
"You can't hold onto that statue forever. If you really wish to stay here-"
"I just came, Mr. Healer. I'm not going to stay,"
"Yet. Come on now," he groaned, as if he was the one exasperated. "I know you want it. You need it. So what are you waiting for? You're never going to see all the beauties in this world in this state!"
He was right. Agonizingly right. He couldn't just walk around as an octopus. It would be like a stain on a quaint painting. Moreover, now that he was here, he couldn't just give up the chance to find you again. It's not like the ocean would welcome him anyways.
As if hearing his thoughts, the Raven Healer reached his hand out, "Deal? Your magic for a pair of legs. It's a fantastic trade if you think about it,"
One second. Two second. Azul didn't wait until the third to act on it. The moment their skin touched, Azul felt a stream of warmth coursing through him, rushing to his throat, where he choked up a luminous blue orb. It was within the healer's fingers within seconds.
"And your legs," he rummaged inside his pocket. There seemed to be numerous tiny objects inside as he dug around. Finally, he pulled up a thumb-size bottle and handed it to Azul.
He downed the slimy liquid inside under the healer's encouraging nods, and almost gagged at the sensation. "Guh! What the hell is-"
His tentacles started glowing a bright yellow, bright enough to attract people in this dead of the night. They started to shrink until they completely disappeared, and a pair of human legs replaced them.
He couldn't believe his eyes as he stretched around and surveyed the changes on his body. It took him quite some time to adjust to it, but he was surprisingly good at it. The fabric of the pants that came with the gift fluttered against his 'flesh' like a mother's caress. He felt normal, for once. Not some ugly monster that preyed on innocent kids. Not a marginalized criminal. Not even a wicked fraud. He was just a human wanting to explore the world.
"Three days," the Raven Healer said.
"What?" Azul was too joyous to pay real mind.
"If you can't find the most beautiful thing after three days, you will dissolve into sea bubbles,"
Azul stilled as he comprehended his words, then he started to chant no in his mind. He'd fallen for his trap.
"You didn't mention it at all!" Azul yelled. "Refund! You're scamming me!"
"The pot's calling the kettle black now. How comical," the healer giggled. Azul's heart dropped to the bottom.
"Consider this your own medicine. It's not like you're completely at loss over here!"
"Wait!" Azul reached out to grasp his fainting figure, which had become an opaque vision.Â
"We shall reunite in three days. Until then, enjoy."
All that was left was the crashing of the waves and songs of the crickets. Bathed in the glow of the moon, Azul finally came to the conclusion that he'd fucked up.
Life never stopped to give him a break. There were haste footsteps nearing from behind. Azul instinctively retracted his tentacles, but forgot about their absence and tripped instead.
"Yikes! That was a nasty fall. Are you okay?"Â
Looking up, two formally looking men were standing above him, one with crimson hair and another navy. There was a sword attached to each of their sides.
"Yeah. I-I'm fine," Azul cleared his throat and stood up.
"Are you homeless?" The redhead asked and was immediately hit by his companion.
"You can't go around asking people whether they are homeless!" he scolded, then turned to Azul brightly. "You must be in search of shelter! Please follow us!"
"That isn't any better,"Â
"Shut up," the blue-haired snapped with the same polite smile. "Come on, Mr"
"A-Azul. Azul Ashengrotto,"
"Yes, Mr. Ashengrotto. We can't have you catching a cold out here,"
Despite his friendly facade, Azul could see underlying motives lurking beneath. But clueless that he was, he didn't have a choice but to follow suit towards the castle-like building in the far distance.
"Your majesty will be pleased to see you," the redhead murmured, but Azul couldn't quite catch that.
"What was that?" he asked.
"It's nothing," was all that he received. "Just that you'll surely love the place."
Conclusion : Azul had once gone around scamming others with his unique magic but was busted and had been further criticised since. The Raven Healer is obviously Crowley, and his magic will be further explained in next chapter.

So I finally watched The Owl House
I wish Iâd do this with every show I watch but it seems like only a lucky few get the She-Ra style rant of love treatment. Well, I finally watched The Owl House after my dash having been flooded for the past couple of weeks and I have some thoughts. Slight spoilers below.
First off, I love the whole vibe. I had a faint idea that this show would be about magic but I didnât know much before watching - except for one thing, weâll get back to that. The way it builds its world and deals with magic, though, is so refreshing. And I just have to mention here that I laughed out loud at all the Harry Potter jabs, they were hilarious. I expect weâll learn much more about magic and its users as the show goes on but as far as the first season goes the introduction was really solid. It strikes the right balance between leaving things to the imagination but being more than âwave wand and magic happensâ. Itâs colourful, itâs creative, and I even like the ovens and school tracks, despite knowing that the story is about not conforming to those. It makes the Boiling Isles unique and make me want to learn more about the world even beyond the characters and the main plot.
TOH also presents a world thatâs much more macabre than I was expecting from the Disney Channel, not that thatâs a bad thing. I found myself thinking of Adventure Time at certain points and pondering, at scary moments, how kids would react. I think kids love this, though, and besides, nothing can be more scarring than Courage the Cowardly Dog was. Itâs not that terrifying, of course, just daring enough to stand out. Overall the show has what I would classify as more of a Cartoon Network vibe than a Disney Channel one, but I admittedly havenât really been following many Disney shows. In any case, I dig it. I dig the weird creatures and the beautiful backgrounds and I appreciate how alive the Boiling Isles feel. It doesnât take long for TOH to immerse you in its world so Iâm for one am hooked.
I make a big deal of loving the world itself because rarely does it happen that world-building stands out to me so soon in a series. I do love carefully constructed fantasy worlds but for the most part Iâm more interested in the characters themselves. Here, Iâd say itâs close to being a 50-50, which is something that even Avatar canât say with its elemental masterclass in world-building (which is mostly because the character depth there is unrivaled but still). So yeah, kudos to The Owl House for achieving this. From Luzâs glyph magic to the covens and the titans, Iâm excited to explore this world more.
Now, the characters. The real meat of any story. Starting with Luz, I have seen some criticism that sheâs a generic hero so far, the âIâm a weirdoâ, heart of gold, upbeat variety. I donât think this makes her bland, though I do admit that being told over and over again that sheâs weird makes me less engaged, even sheâs also shown to be weird. I like the message of her arc and that the chosen one trope was deconstructed almost right away. I like that sheâs relentlessly enthusiastic and kind to people and I like that she doesnât have to get more bitter in order to get development. Instead, she learns from her mistakes but keeps being herself and brings her unique spirit to the Boiling Isles. We need protagonists like Luz, not just because sheâs latina and bisexual but because her learning process doesnât involve cynicism. Sure, there is a lot she needs to learn but her heart is presented as an asset and a sort of source of magic. Iâm excited to see where her story goes, for sure.
Iâm gonna write briefly about the other characters before I get to my favourite one. Eda is super cool and I quickly got over the fact that sheâs not Beatrice Horseman, lol. She embodies such a youthful energy but the show also allows her to be a middle-aged woman comfortable in her own body - well, owl curse notwithstanding. Also, her relationship with Lilith is one of my favourite parts of the whole show. Eda subverts so many of the mentorâs traditional tropes and Iâm here for it. I kinda thought she was the villain based on her design and when I didnât know anything about the show but hey, happy sheâs not.
I donât think Iâd even seen a picture of King before starting to watch the series and at first I thought Iâd get tired of him real quick. Heâs the type of character who can get really annoying instead of endearing really fast if heâs not given any depth or charm, both by way of writing and voice acting. Luckily, I ended up liking King and his antics. His design is indeed adorable and Alex Hirsch is a genius. The only time I felt like he went too far was, perhaps surprisingly, in the book writing episode, âSense and Insensitivityâ, but even there going too far was the point. So yeah, Kingâs also great, thereâs much potential in his backstory and general character.
Alright so really quickly, other characters: Willow and Gus are generic best friend characters and though they already have other things going on, I expect more development as the series progresses. I like that Willow is actually super powerful, just not in the way people expected her to and Gus is clearly also talented despite being younger. Iâd be happy to see more of the other kids, get more familiar with Hexside. Edric and Emira are fun characters but they were really shitty in their first episode so I was kind of surprised they werenât more of a nuisance to Amity later on. Iâm all for supportive siblings so I wouldnât mind a good relationship between the three but I feel like itâs more complicated than that with the Blights.
Finally, I also have to mention that Hooty is... well, quite something, isnât he. Much like with King, I thought heâd be much more annoying but somehow the show is self-aware enough that it makes Hooty tolerable. Iâm almost always torn between feeling sorry for him and being thoroughly weirded out, and I think thatâs the intention? Itâs fitting that heâs the titular character as he embodies the tone of The Owl House well in my eyes. Heâs there for the comedy but thereâs just enough there to hint at something more. Very bizarre, strong CN vibes, here for it.
Now that Iâve written a paragraph more about Hooty than I expected to, letâs talk about Amity. Listen, no other character stood a chance to be my favourite as soon as I learned Mae Whitman voiced Amity. That woman gave me Katara so now I have a quasi Pavlovian response to her voice. Iâd also say that I knew more about Amity going into the show than I did about any other aspect of TOH. I heard somewhere that she started out as an antagonist, I knew her parents were abusive, and the reason the show blew up on my dash and my general online bubble is the Grom episode. Lucikly I only saw stills of Lumity beneath the crescent moon but the pure Sapphic energy of that was enough to gay migrate me to this show. Iâd like to note it here though that The Owl House is a good show in and of itself, the queer rep is just a nice extra. Iâm gonna spend the next couple hundred words going on about Amity and her crush on Luz but I donât value only that. The Gay Migration is great and rep is great but Iâm also grateful to have a solid show behind it. That being said.
Iâm a total dyke for Amity Blight. I was very biased before even being introduced to her character but I genuinely find her to be fascinating and she has great potential. Sheâs developing quite quickly, like much of The Owl House, but an arc not being stretched out for several seasons before getting a rushed conclusion is refreshing. The progress hits all the beats and the only note I have is that I want more. She starts out as a generic bully but the opportunity to be more is there from the beginning. We find out early on that she used to be friends with Willow, we see that she works hard and values honest work. When she becomes Luzâs rival, it doesnât last long before Amity shows that sheâs open to new perspectives. Thatâs not to defend or even justify her earlier and nastier moments, Amity was rude to both Luz and Willow. But through all that, she becomes a complex character who does bad things but isnât a bad person and grows when she gets the space to. I think thatâs neat.
Luzâs decision to befriend her might be cartoon logic but as someone who subscribes to the âkill them with kindnessâ ideology, I can totally relate. Amityâs softer side doesnât take long to show and âLost in Languageâ is such a great episode to show how complex people can be. Again, I was already biased when it came to Amity but sheâs consistently shown to be capable of self-reflection and growth when others give her the chance. I think her past and potential future friendship with Willow is a great way to explore many different topics and Iâm trusting the show to do it justice. I also canât wait to meet the rest of the Blights, if only to get me some angst and further develop Amity. I half expected Grom to take the form of her parents. Too dark for Disney? Well, we donât know Amityâs dynamic with her parents, exactly, but thereâs so much subtext and potential. I love what weâve already seen from her but Iâd also say that she has one of the greatest potentials in the show.
Another way in which this potential manifests is Lumity, of course. Again, theyâre developing quite quickly but that doesnât mean itâs rushed. Iâd love to explore Amityâs crush more and what Luz means to her. The Grom episode surpassed all expectations, still and gifs donât do the stunning dance sequence justice. The animation is so smooth, the colours are amazing, the music is on point and the Sapphic vibes complete the picture. Poetic cinema, truly. Molly Ostertag and Noelle Stevenson are really out there giving wlw animation fans everything we ever wanted, huh. It also warms my heart that the crush is made very clear, not just by Luzâs name being on the note but by the delightful gay disaster that is Amity in âWing It Like Witchesâ. I never thought Iâd ever see such a relatable useless lesbian in animation so kudos to Dana Terrace and the whole crew. Wow, how far weâve come.
So yeah, Amity is a funky little lesbian and Iâm a 100% here for her gay disaster moments, but I also love where Lumity is going thematically. Theyâre great as foils and Iâm hoping that they wonât get together at the very end. Look, I love me some Bubbline, Korrasami and Catradora, but itâs time a wlw relationship had the chance to exist onscreen and not only in the last episode. The Owl House has a great chance to do that. I know the creators donât want romance to be the main focus and I respect that, I think the world they created deserves to showcased and explored to its full potential. Lumity could be a great subplot though, as representation on the one hand and as a thematically interesting dynamic on the other. Plus, Luz and Amity are just cute and sometimes, itâs as simple as that. Oh, and also the whole Little Miss Perfect thing? One of the best fandom discoveries Iâve made in a long while. Not only is the song truly perfect for Amity, I love that Joriah KwamĂ© went on to write Ordinary as well. This right here is why fandom is beautiful.
I think thatâs about it for season 1 initial thoughts. The moral can be a bit on the nose at times, especially in the early episodes but the show is ultimately for kids and I appreciate its message. Interesting world and magic system, good characters, great potential for later seasons, just a well put together show that Iâm really glad I started watching. Iâm kind of sorry I didnât keep up with season 1 as it was coming out but I would not have been able to wait between episodes. The pacing is good overall, deffo moves fast but I wouldnât call it rushed, and the âfillerâ episodes still add something to the story. Iâm not sure if I would still feel like the show moves at a fast pace if I hadnât binged it but in any case it isnât rushed, the necessary beats are all there and have time to sit. Iâm going to watch as it comes out from now on so hopefully season 2 will arrive early next year.
Oh, and: Iâm very new to the fandom, barely just found out about Little Miss Perfect, so any and all tidbits, fun facts, and fic recommendations are welcome. Also if you just want to chat my inbox is always open!

Episode 28~ Well, I heard this seasonâs supposedly got 60 episodes total (donât quote me, that may be wrong) so weâre almost at the halfway point... Iâm gonna wait till episode 30 to talk about that though.
This episode I actually rather liked, even though absolutely NOTHING happens other than the important things at the very beginning and the very end. Thatâs becoming a pattern this season - lots of nothing sandwiched in between hints of big dramatic things to come. Eh. But yeah, I liked it anyway :P for a few reasons that are probably not that objective. Itâs not the kind of episode thatâs gonna make you want to rewatch though.
Cap of the week!
Look we all know Jou is exactly the kind of 12 year old who folds his clothes neatly even when lost in a mysterious parallel world. Also he brought more textbooks (social studies and Japanese). Aka more ammo for Mimi
More below:
Last week we ended with Patamon evolving to Angemon in what was a pretty anticlimactic moment, despite a big villain being there and a cliffhanger ending. Seemed like a waste after all we went through just to get him.
However, I do think the beginning of episode 28 makes up for it somewhat. Angemon gets to show off how Very Very Cool he is, but itâs also made clear that heâs not up to full strength. Seeing him throw all his effort into the battle to save them even though itâs clear he wonât win was actually pretty great.
More typhoon winds throwing everyone back XD they must have so many bruises
Poor Takeru gets thrown back all by his lonesome
So last episode, I said I thought Darknightmon was gonna go for Hikari and was surprised and somewhat relieved when he stayed interested in Takeru/Angemon. Um... I guess that was a red herring xâD heâs after Hikari after all.
He literally says âI have no use for youâ to Angemon LOL sick burn my dude
Hikari: âThere is a new cutest child.â
Takeru: âUm, actually the phrase is âsmallest childâ.â
Hikari: âNo. Cutest child. Do not interrupt my moment, impertinent one.â
Grogu: âDid someone say âcutest childâ?â
Angemonâs peeved that Hikari stole the spotlight so he immediately jumps into the way and prevents Darknightmon from grabbing her.
Angemon: âNo one treats ME like some washed up has-been!â
But as hard as he tries, Angemon just hasnât recovered enough. It probably took all the energy Patamon had stored up just to evolve. His wings lengthen and release into millions of shining feathers, and both he and Darknightmon de-evolve.
I really did kind of enjoy this battle! Seeing Takeru be all strong and heroic, and the desperation with which Angemon tries to protect him... me likey.
Next itâs a nod to 99 series! D-D-Digimon!
Yamato screams like heâs at the dentistâs.
Thereâs lots of freaky black lightning that rains down seeming to give dark energy and empower random Digimon who get hit by it. Just to ensure our heroes donât get to waste time on any more âbreaksâ
A single feather floats down where Taichi lands and dissolves. I am not sure what happened to it, if it did anything or if it was what protected them until this point...
Taichi and Hikari wake up and discover they are alone. So last week I thought theyâd get swept off into pairs... I didnât even consider that theyâd each wind up alone. Mixed feelings! On the one hand, seeing each kid interact with their partner and their partner only was one of the good things about this episode (except it wasnât always true, which Iâll get to in a minute). On the other hand, my fears last week were that whoever ended up with Taichi would be overshadowed by him. Turns out, if no oneâs with him but Hikari, that means all the plot stuff is with them and the others have nothing in particular to do. -_-; At least not this week. My hope is that itâs coming (and there were a few promising hints this episode so), but next weekâs trailer looks pretty Taichi-centric too..
Taichi: âCan I help it if Iâm so charming cool awesome and dare I say it adorableâ
The impact of everyone being âaloneâ is cut short by the fact that they can all still communicate via digivice. I would be fine with that, except for what I said earlier - they wind up spending too much time talking to each other instead of their partners. Particularly the ones who like to Plan Things. Eh.
Yamato tells Taichi to protect Hikari, doesnât even mention that heâs sadly separated from Takeru at this point ;_; He knows Takeruâs okay though because Takeru is also communicating by digivice.
Sora: âHello yes, itâs in my contract that I get to be awesome X number of times per episode, and I have doubts that you are making your quota.â
I love how Tentomonâs job is basically Koushirouâs secretary xâD âPut my calls on speakerphone Margaretâ âYes Mr Izumiâ
The partners really are suited to each other... Koushirou gets a secretary, Jou gets a mom, Mimi gets a gal pal, Yamato gets a therapist, Sora gets a sister, Taichi gets a... preschool child who eats paste... -.-â
takeru and hikari donât count because theyâre Special and their main attribute is Cute
All the kids have ended up alone except for super-charged monsters who want to eat them. Palmon hoists Mimi up a very sheer rock trying to escape Golemon who is not great at climbing but doesnât seem to know that
Meanwhile Jou... is like âOhh yeah, you guys have it so rough, Iâm trying my hardest too, keep fighting the good fight yâallâ
Heâs relaxing in the hot springs and freaking studying.
Gomamonâs unusually fine with it though. Because he gets to swim. He says âLetâs invite the others here.â Theyâre both like YEAH THIS IS WHAT I CALL A VACATION
Itâs all fun and games until the hairy guy with the tattoos and veiny arms sharing your hot spring starts staring at your ding-a-ling. Uhhhhhhh.
he does make the âNanimono?â joke so all is well lol
No matter what form he takes, Patamon is always an Angel đŒ
Takeru is alone but he has Patamon... but Patamon is...
... ADORABLE... and conked out. Takeruâs so proud of him though, look at that smile *sniff*
Taichi remembers to ask Koushirou how conditions are back at home. This kid is too organized.
Koushirou: âNews and variety shows continue as normal even though the worldâs ending.â
Iâm not going to get into everything he says but itâs pretty much more of the same regarding the power influx from the human world to the digital world and the way the Zurumonâs attacks are wreaking havoc with electronics...
Taichi almost says âYouâre so sugoi!â Almost. Heâs grateful anyway. *chews on those Taishiro breadcrumbs till theyâre broken down to atoms*
Then... Hikariâs acting strange!
Agumon: âWhat are you looking at?â
Hikari: âI donât know.â
Taichi: âYou donât know but youâre looking at it?â
Hikari: âIt kind of looks like Steve Buscemi... itâs hard to tellâ
Taichiâs not too wigged out by freaky Hikari because heâs lived with her all his life, and sheâs always been a freak.
Baby Hikari: âShteeve... bushemiii....â
Agumon: âYour sisterâs weird.â
Taichi: âYeah but sheâs MY weird sister.â
Yamato is fighting, of course. He stops for a moment to be impressed by how well Takeruâs handling himself. Garurumon points it out. I suppose itâs simply time to accept that this season Yamato is just not the disaster boy he was in 99 xâD
Now have some gratuitous adorable Patabutt images.
Patabutt patabutt pata pata butt butt
Um... is it just me or is Patamon kinda... oversized all of a sudden lol...
Takeru: âDid you eat all of my candy stash again?â
Patamon: âI just canât seem to quitâ
Takeru: âThatâs it weâre getting you into rehabâ
Patamon tries to fly but just canât ;____; poor baby is totally wiped out. Takeru takes a long time to catch on to that. I REALLY HOPE THIS GOES SOMEWHERE, like Takeru has to protect Patamon instead of the reverse etc... pleeeeease donât just leave this where it is writers!! The potential for cute is endlessssss
On the matter of Things That Are Not Cute... -.-;
Jou: âPlease stop looking at my junkâ
Nanimon: âStop looking at mineâ
Jou: âYOU DONT HAVE ANY wait do you wAIT I DONT WANT TO LOOKâ
Mimi is much more useful! She discovers a shiny rock!
Theory!
This rock... could be the raw material for their Crests!!! Squeee~!! I mean, itâs about time something about that came up, assuming itâs still a thing. (Since they already seem to have their Crests loaded in their Digivices and got to Perfect level without any talk of values and personal strengths, I donât know how much of the old Crest legacy remains in this season.) I, uh, did the same thing in my fanfic so I guess Iâm just biased... These could totally be Evil Rubies Of Darkness and Terror but Iâd rather have Crests :p Of course I would have expected Mimi to find green stones in that case sooo... maybe not.
Anyway she and Palmon are suitably distracted from running from Golemon and go mining instead. Iâm sure that will not cause any problems.
We swing back to Taichi and Hikari, who are being approached by a big scary monster...
Taichi: âWatch my Tarzan impression.â
Hikari: âNooo! I donât want to be Jane!â
Fortunately Agumon evolves just to catch them in midair xâD Now is not the time for impressions, Taichi, seriously.
They are attacked by Volcdramon, which is a dumbass name.
Voldramon: âI AM VOLCRADMON, THE VOLCANO DIGIMONâ
Taichi: âVelcromon the Velcro Digimon?â
Voldramon: âwhat NO i am Volcdramon-â
Hikari: âVoltronmon? Voldemortmon?â
Voldramon: *sniveling* âwhy does this happen EVERY time i JUST want to be one of the cool guys youre all such BULLIESâ
MetalGreymon and Volcdramon face off, but somethingâs not right! Much like... the Digimon in the last episode whose name I already forgot *cough*, Volcdramon seems able to absorb other Digimonâs power. This presents a problem because last time it took all of them shooting into its mouth together to overload it so they could win. MetalGreymon is having a hard time on his own as Volcdramon just absorbs all his attacks.
Hikari prays to Jesus to save them. Digimon is approved for Christian families đŒđŒđŒ
ugggghhh I love them
Taichi promises Hikari everything will be okay. His back-and-forth with MetalGreymon here is kind of cool. Every time MetalGreymon takes a hit, Taichiâs encouragement and coaching?? I guess keeps frustration at bay.
Buuut eventually theyâre both feeling pretty desperate :P It was hard for me to take this battle seriously since, after all weâve seen MetalGreymon capable of, it seems weird that he should be struggling this much. But obviously they donât just want to make him invincible. And this problem makes sense: the ability of Digimon to absorb attacks and turn them into energy is definitely a new problem.
The question is, how do we solve it?
Apparently it helps if you have a little sister whoâs some kind of super battery.
Taichi: âNothing shocks me anymore with Hikari. She could announce sheâs been Beyonce this whole time and I would believe itâ
WarGreymon appears (again) as his goldeny vision self, defeats Volcdramon, then promptly de-evolves back to Agumon.
So the question is, why is this happening... From earlier episodes we know Agumon & co are some group of legendary warriors who have had their memories tampered with (??) to some extent (because they do still know each other, or at least Agumon and Gabumon remember knowing each other). Omegamonâs a given for that of course so I suppose thatâs why. Hikari seems to be the key to unlocking the legendary warriors, maybe with Takeru. Thatâs my guess. Of course, Tailmonâs probably already in the bad guysâ clutches, much like Patamon was. I hope sheâs still working for them. I want more double agent fun times. Also ANGST
Hikari: âThank you, Agumon-â *disappears*
Taichi: âGEEZ I canât eat, canât sleep, canât even breathe without something bad happening anymore, like excuse me for BLINKINGâ
Yeah so... Skullknightmon appears and abducts Hikari like itâs nothing xD
Skullknightmon: âWhatâs under arm number two? Iiiiitâs your sister!â
Taichi: âAw damn, I wanted the sports carâ
Taichi quickly gives chase. I assume Agumonâs pretty exhausted after that and probably canât evolve now. Bad timing. Oooor maybe this is all how Skullknightmon planned it...
Then... the unthinkable! Hikari looks at her brother rushing desperately to save her... and turns away!
Taichi is SHOCKED! Le GASP!
Taichi: âBut but but Iâm the MAIN CHARACTERâ
Hikari: âNot anymore bitch itâs my show nowâ
Yeah okay jokes aside! This bit was AWESOME. Like, Iâm sure itâs obvious that she can tell the voice that âcalledâ her to the digital world is with Skullnightmon. Or at least, her heartâs telling her she has to go with him in order to meet that person (Tailmon, duh). Iâll be surprised if thatâs not whatâs going on. But... to so coldly just turn her back on her brother... I mean, maybe she also thinks sheâs protecting him... but SHE JUST GOT HERE... holy crap...
To think we spent so long theorizing that Takeru would be the one abducted but no itâs Hikari... In retrospect should have been obvious. Sheâs 1) a girl and therefore a damsel, and 2) the one who was abducted in 99 xP
But I really like her semi-willingly going off with Skullnightmon. Much better than just screaming as sheâs whisked away King Kong-style. In 99 she also got abducted voluntarily (I mean, it was coercion, so... thatâs not voluntary, but you know what I mean). So they kept that in this season and I like it.
Thatâs it for this weekâs episode! So the bits that I liked were the individual moments with the kids and their partners, of which we had more than usual but still not nearly enough. Nowhere near. In the end it was still a Taichi episode.
As a Taichi fan... itâs not like Iâm ever sad that he gets more focus. But I love ALL the kids and theyâre NOT getting development. We do keep getting hints about them but itâs so, so, so slow. To be fair, itâs not like we know THAT much about Taichi either. He gets so much focus because heâs always fighting. This season doesnât seem concerned with personality and character bits like the 99 one, and I am gonna compare them for that. Because I think that was the heart of the 99 show. Without it, itâs missing something. I keep hoping itâll come back, we keep getting those hints and special moments here and there, but the plot is such a distraction... if it was like a really good plot maybe Iâd care less but...
Next week... as far as I can see, itâs another Taichi episode xP But I do think theyâll do the same as this episode and intersperse Taichiâs battle with whatâs going on with the others too. If thatâs how they do it, I wonât mind. It might even be better. Fine, Taichi can fight, as long as the others are showing us more about themselves and getting other things done in the meantime. Mimi and Jou both look promising. Takeru too. Sora and Yamato, not sure..
Koushirou better not just sit at his computer the whole time -___-
Le owch.
Taichi: âLook being the main characterâs not all itâs cracked up to be. I have three concussions and six broken bones. Also I canât feel my toes anymoreâ
hang in there bud im cheering for ya
