What I loved best about it is there wasn’t a magic “Oh, Nikki goes solve everything by getting some” solution.

She offers, and it’s rightly pointed put “The specific fabric is in limited supply because of how much is made by the people of Stoneville,” with the very clear implication that change would require fundamental structural changes that allows production to increase.

That there is an intense societal issue, based on very clearly and explicitly discussed prejudices, but you need to change both the societal and structural components to solve the issue.

And it’s intentionally repeated at the end when a specific character (no spoilers) gets a government position after helping in a battle; at first, you’re just “Um, do they even know how to do this?”… And your first dialogue with them afterwards is overhearing them list off previously disenfranchised groups and requesting other experienced people look into resources.

And you’re just “Ah, good, right, they can actually do good job because they know who needs help and who to ask for it.”

infinity nikki is like "here's RAGGY he's made out of RAGS and he's a silly little guy with big dreams! :D Because of his lower status in society he has been denied healthcare and opportunities despite being more capable than the ruling class that oppresses him." okay i wasn't expecting that...!

not even JRR Tolkien, who famously developed the concept of the Secondary World and firmly believed that no trace of the Real World should be evoked in the fictional world, was able to remove potatoes from his literature. this is a man who developed whole languages and mythologies for his literary world, who justified its existence in English as a translation* simply because he was so miffed he couldn't get away with making the story fully alien to the real world. and not even he, in extremis, was so cruel as to deny his characters the heavenly potato. could not even conceive a universe devoid of the potato. such is its impact. everyone please take a moment to say thank you to South Americans for developing and cultivating one of earth's finest vegetables. the potato IS all that. literally world-changing food. bless.

Y'all I know that when so-called AI generates ridiculous results it's hilarious and I find it as funny as the next guy but I NEED y'all to remember that every single time an AI answer is generated it uses 5x as much energy as a conventional websearch and burns through 10 ml of water. FOR EVERY ANSWER. Each big llm is equal to 300,000 kiligrams of carbon dioxide emissions.

LLMs are killing the environment, and when we generate answers for the lolz we're still contributing to it.

Stop using it. Stop using it for a.n.y.t.h.i.n.g. We need to kill it.
