This is so so stupid but I got very happy when I read in your strawpage you are from 2003 too, I've lurking around seeing your art ever since DOL caught my eye and you're one of my favourite artists so having that bit in common is cool! Also if you haven't played Fields of Mistria or Homicipher I definitely recommend them! The first one is similar to Stardew Valley in the sense you're a farmer, you can decorate your house and romance any of the bachelors/bachelorettes but this one is more fantasy-like and the artstyle reminds me of 80s anime and Sailor Moon. The second came out recently and I haven't played it yet but I saw the trailer and some fanarts; you wake up in a terrifying unknown world where you have to survive and the romance options are very creepy men, one of the appeals of this one is trying to learn the world's language, it looks fun

Yeah, I've been spiralling about Arcane 2 since the trailer came out as well. I have so many thoughts but one of the theories i wanted to share that i havent seen yet is the line "my sister is gone".

After watching the trailer for the umpteenth time, i feel like it was not Vi coming to terms with who Jinx was but a more physical response to jinx's location.

I think she was on a mission to go find jinx (maybe the last scene was actually from that mission early on in the season) and something happens where Jinx disappears.

She has moved her base away, she got away and now no one can track her. So vi has come back to Piltover, probably to Cait, and is reporting by saying," My sister is gone."

I also think that the final (ish) mega battle would be with the Noxus Army, in a way where Jinx and Vi are forced to work together against a common enemy. What brings them closer could be the discovery of Warwick and how it might be Vander, and the two sisters need to deal with that information together.

I have so many theories, idk if im making sense anymore.

I also dont think jinx, vi or cait will die. I believe Jinx is either going to use the gemstone to teleport herself somewhere or she's going to be exiled somewhere. Or she leaves on her own accord, bidding a final goodbye to Vi, almost like," See you around".

Also, I'm almost 95% sure that Cassandra Kiramman and Mel are dead.

Director: Malleus's arcane realm is made up of multiple layers of complex spell formulas. It reminds me of the ancient sorcery cast on Subject F—ah, I mean Grim. But we've managed to unravel the spells quickly, thanks in no small part to help from Briar Valley.

I learned something else from the non-battle tests we had him do. He's got traces of a powerful spell on him. Ortho: I thought the blue flames coming from his ears were a direbeast trait, but... Do you think it's a curse manifesting, like how it is for you? Idia: I tried analyzing it to see, but it's got layers of complex, interwoven magic. I can't piece the whole thing together. Not even with Styx's supercomputer crunching the numbers. It'd take a century for that analysis to finish. But what I found out from studying the outer layers of the spell is that seriously ancient sorcery's involved. Ortho: How ancient are we talking? Idia: Like, thousand-year-old primeval magic. I've got no idea who cast such a complex spell on Grim, or why they did it… And it's currently unclear whether the blot resistance he has is a blessing or a curse. Ortho: Those are technically the same thing, of course. Blessings and curses are both types of sorcery that bestow magic on someone. The only difference is whether there's a positive or negative intent behind it.

Im really excited that youve gotten into Arcane!! I havent watched the show yet but Im planning to and Im SO excited to read the content you’ve already put out for it!!

I also know youve said in the past that it takes time for you to attach to media enough to want to discuss/write about it; so for this new show to have grabbed your interest so quickly makes me really happy!! I’m glad you’re enjoying it!!

For as long as I've been an animation fan, Arcane is what the community has been begging for. A lot of adults in cartoon fandoms aren't super into children's media. They're just into animation, but the only way they can reasonably get it is by watching children's media.

But Arcane is actually what we've been wanting. I do love children's media, but I have been dying for years for Arcane. It's deep and political and complicated. All the characters are adults or nearly adults so even shipping is more convenient. There's angst and violence and actual ethical dilemmas. These problems literally cannot be solved with a conversation or an offer of friendship.

And then, on top of all that, I have a character I relate very deeply to in Jinx. It's so rare to show someone with mental health this severe who is still treated with respect in the narrative. Outside of depression and anxiety, media still doesn't really know how to handle a lot of mental health issues, but Jinx has agency, and intelligence, and her mental health impacts her without defining her. I feel seen because she exists, so seen that I actually struggled with it for a while because I realized I needed a character this "broken" to actually feel like my mental health issues were being seen.

I think I fell in love with Arcane immediately because I was primed for it. I've been waiting for a show just like this for over a decade. And I'm prepared to not have it again as well. If I hate future seasons, I really don't care, because this first season gave me so many things I've been aching for my entire adult life.

I hope that you enjoy it, but if you don't, I hope you find another show that gives you a similar experience to mine! Sometimes you can fall in love at first sight with a piece of media, and it's wonderful.

Malak & Magali (Arcane Elements Cycle; Defiance)

okay these two young (*snorts* theyre a couple hundred years old actually but whatever) magicians are too adventurous for their own good. they first met when they were in their early teens, coincidentally on two separate missions that led them to the same place, where they helped each other out and a friendship bloomed in the process, but they parted ways immediately after and never thought they’d meet again. WELL. they actually ended up running into each other quite often, grew close, and eventually joined the Defiance (that shady organization dedicated to keeping the Sorcerer and his Elites in check). they proceeded to fall in love and still go around looking for trouble. they often run into the Elites (particularly Luisa and Ritika). more often than the Defiance would prefer, but they get away with things because they’re valuable.

malak was born in london in the 19th century, his mother died when he was a baby, and his father died when he was a child. he should have grown up an apprentice to a scientist of some sort but discovered an entrance to the Empire somehow and once he found this place he never wanted to leave. he spent his teenage years running around, chasing myths and magic, mostly just looking for fun and mischief. uhh touch starved, mild abandonment issues. chaotic neutral? still in development, we’ll see what else he’s got in store.

magali was born in the black castle. she had some special power that caught the interest of the sorcerer himself when she was a small child, and it freaked her parents out so they took her and ran away, tried some experiments to get rid of her powers and hopefully shake off whatever the sorcerer was so intrigued by, but it backfired and they just ended up making things Bad and now theyre dead? i don’t think that was her fault but yeah they havent been around since she was in her mid-teens at the latest, and by then she was running around with malak. her magic is all messed up from her parents screwing around. i don’t know the details yet. i think she first met malak while trying to find a way to fix her magic, and he helps a lot now. he helps with her mental health too, she experiences maladaptive daydreaming and some issues with reality. she’s also got a weird obsession/phobia thing regarding the Sorcerer? she hasnt seen him in person since she was like six and goes to some lengths to avoid him, as her parents instilled deep fears and also accidentally some deep interest. at the same time she hears anything about him and she’s very 👀

they both slowed in aging in their early twenties, (the younger a person’s aging beings to slow, the more magically powerful they are supposedly). they have an extremely tight bond, they hold absolutely no secrets from each other,

i’m not sure how much they’ll appear in the main books. i know they won’t be very significant in the first book, but i’m hoping to write them their own thing.

ritika and ayuka were both born in and both grew up in the black castle, only a year or two apart in age. they were friends from the beginning. i’m not really sure about ayuka’s story yet, but ritika had a terrible childhood due to an extremely dysfunctional family, and while ayuka never intended to become an Elite (she stood out in some way and the Sorcerer went “yes— that one” and ayuka was very “who, me??”), ritika worked very hard (understatement) to get her position on the council. they’re about as old as malak and magali, and i’m not sure at what point they knew they were interested in each other sexually/romantically, but it was before their aging slowed. i think ayuka’s aging a little slower than ritika so… that’s interesting. anyway ayuka’s like a spymaster and kind of a detective, her position in the Elites is known as “Beauty”, nicknamed after an aphrodite-like mythological figure in the Empire, known for irresistible charm, and ritika’s is Mischief, who was actually Beauty’s lover in the legends, so. (*finger guns*) ritika’s work is brutal, she’s like the police/warden of the castle as well as… basically the Sorcerer’s thug, takes care of the smaller matters he’s too busy to attend to himself, like hunting down individual members of the Defiance.

they’re a bit murder-happy? they’ve both got a little too much interest in violence, though while ritika has a serious sadistic side, ayuka just likes the excitement of almost-violence and would prefer not to go through with it. the other elites are always waiting for the day the Sorcerer’s had enough of their “complications” but they’re really good at their jobs and he keeps letting them off the hook and it frustrates their coworkers to no end cause they could never get away with that kind of misconduct. they do pretty much whatever they want. as long as the job’s done well, the sorcerer doesn’t seem to care much how it’s done. they’ve had a few run-ins with malak and magali. ritika’s tried to kill magali before. there may be a love triangle with another elite girl, but i’m waiting to hear what eri wants to do. i love my murder girls.

i am also not sure how significant they will be in the first book, but you will definitely meet them both, ritika will make an impression on asteria, and i have plans for all four of these characters in the second book

btw yall...i have actual reasoning behind this....

i dont see why the hooded figure wouldnt be Viktor because A) why would Jinx wear a cape like this if everyone knows her signature is thee monkey? not to mention she's been pretty confident in not getting caught, so im sure being infected (as you could put it) with Shimmer would only make her more confident.

and B) Viktor has reason to be hiding his identity if he is involved; he has a good reputation among Topsiders, especially Jayce and Mel, and i have the feeling he wouldn't be immediately willing to give all that up quite yet. That on top of the fact he was already wearing a cape (with a hood!) earlier in the trailer makes me think that it's more than likely Viktor is our anonymous hooded figure.

with that said, i wonder what he's doing if involved with Jinx. ive seen people on twitter say that he's more than likely helping Zaunites with shimmer addictions and that sounds very in-character for him, but again, being involved in any capacity with Jinx is kind of confusing. at first i my guess was that it had something to do with the Hexcore and whatnot, but then i realized he's equally as likely to participate in his homecity's revolution based on the s1 finale... i'm sure his experience with shimmer and Hextech only motivated him more since he could use them to his advantage. they can coexist!!

anyways, i havent watched Arcane fully in around a year since Netflix cracked down on the password sharing, so i'm sure im misremembering some things. either way, im excited to see what my boy is gonna get up to in this season!!!

so like you know the game idia is a HUGE fan of

and its like. i think i understand why some people dont view events as canon?

cause so in book 6 he mentions the game, and hoping for a sequel. and vil's just like 'dont just hope, actually do something, because zero is always zero, but even 0.001 can turn into 100' or something like that

which inspires ortho. to do. something im not sure i havent continued yet (but i have been spoiled bits and pieces of this book so i have a vague idea..)

but. in wish upon a star, THE DEVS CAME TOGETHER AND WERE GOING TO MAKE A SEQUEL CAUSE THEY SAW THE METEOR SHOWER (that ortho made) AND GOT INSPIRED

but the conversation never wouldve happened if the sequel was planned

and while it could be replaced, probably doesnt have as much meaning (or would have to be changed entirely)

winter break lasts past new year could it be early january-ish? maybe. because while there were a bunch of timeskips like '3 days into the bet..' 'a few days after practicing' etc etc, theres still a lot of room for the training camp to be a part of that month (the lower half at least) and continue on to reach mid-february. and vdc/sdc itself is 2 days or something. i think. still though. hh. but that doesnt actually change the problem, unless there were to be some changing around to fit wish upon a star, like, after book 6? (although it might ruin the message of 'take things into your own hands')

And honestly as a plus, you have a young Vik, despite his control tendencies has a compassionate heart not yet being corrupted by the hexcore that feeds his worst traits.

Dude your jayvik posts and metas are infused in my blood stream they are built DIFFERENT and i can’t agree more, im obssessed with them. But of course they leave me with so many questions its HURTING MY POOR BRAIN and i need an outlet ! One for example is ive seen artists/writers explore the dynamic between s2 viktor and s2 jayce for fun and it got me thinking! If mage vik did tell jayce only he could stop him, why DIDNT he send him in other timelines to change vik’s mind instead?? Wouldnt it have saved them so much time and prevent the timeline its doom? All of the resolution we see happen in the finale, happening instead much earlier on?

I feel like there is such a possibility where just like ekko and heimerdinger, he merges with his au self and spends the time he has convincing this viktor of the danger of hexcore and THE ANGST as well of maybe jayce also confessing his regrets and inner feelings to him aswell AGHHH i SWEAR there are SO MANY POSSIBILITIES ! I mean we did see a timeline where vander and silco make peace again and zaun thriving as a city soooo…

BUT OKAY SO LETS DO THIS I had fun chewing on the "why DIDN'T Viktor send Jayce back further in other timelines to talk past Viktor out of it?" and got a few takes!

Take 1: The Easy Dismissive Narrative Answer

Because if that worked that's what Wizard Viktor would have done. At this point you can assume that he may have already tried something like that.

This is probably what the answer was for writing the "we gotta get. this. wrapped. up!" finale. But for speculations sake its boring! Blah! What fun is that? And if we take this answer as fact we gotta figure out the WHY right??? That's what we're here for!

Take 2: Causal Determination makes things an exponentially bigger bitch to manage the further back you go and the bigger changes you try to make even if you did make yourself into a Science Wizard God

So. Causal Determinism/Physical Fatalism is the idea that every decision or step made is preset by everything that came before it, and that scope encompasses everything in that universe. It's a fancy term for how most people these days conceptualize fate and time and cause-effect. It's why I love that Ekko's Z-drive can only take things back for four seconds before reality starts to fucking explode from him changing his current timeline too much. It's also evident by the fact that there are timelines where something outside of Viktor fucking with Jayce's fate still led to them not making hextech and dooming the world because it is impossible to account for every chance random happening. Which...is also the evidence that "undoom the world" is NOT Viktor's motivation in the slightest because he's doing this shit while that universe exists. Babygirl what is wrong with you ect ect.

By the time Wizard Viktor realizes he's doomed himself to eternal lonely misery, it's safe to assume that he already knows the the event of Jayce being saved by a mage happened (whether it's always been Viktor or is sometimes another mage depends on how deep into the paradox loop you wanna take them but doesn't matter much here). Him going back to be that mage isn't changing what the Spiderverse handily called a "canon event" it just ensures that said event WILL happen. If he starts messing around with way more nebulous goals of "convince me not to do this early on" then he's gotta take into account how early it has to be, what would Jayce have to do to convince him, what else might end up with them going through all that anyway, which goes into

Take 2A: Viktor is an Analytical Science Nerd

Speculation is all well and good, leaping into the unknown is excellent. But Viktor's not gonna change things blindly to see what clicks. Viktor trying to send Jayce back into himself in other timelines creates way more unknown factors like: how far back would he need to go in his own timeline for that to work? What if he hears that and past him who still has more compassion than selfishness decides that the best response is to separate himself from Jayce entirely (not the wanted result. saves the world but does not have them ending things Together. Babygirl what is wrong with you.) What if changing something as drastic as including "time travel Jayce gives Young Viktor a dire warning" makes the entire timeline go off the rails to the point that Viktor can't calculate what the right steps are due to too many changes to track? What if you had to rely on Jayce Fucking Talis and his decision making/persuasion skills as your control in an experiment??? Oh hell no

So Viktor decides to go with an event that he knows happens, ensuring said event, and only changing ONE factor at a time in that event (which rune he gives Jayce.) There are still outlier universes, but that at least ensures that he has a good idea of what input he changed created which output in that timeline.

(just realized that this also would be a reason to have Jayce merc Hippy Viktor. It's likely that Hippy Viktor was on his way to Singularity HiveMind Cosmic Horror Viktor already, but it would have taken him way longer to get there and that increased timeline creates too many other outside variables. Making another big trauma event via Jayce blasting his chest open speeds that shit UP and reduces other influences. Supremely fucked up of him to do. I love Wizard Viktor. he's a fucking menace the more you think about what he's doing.)

And this all is big evidence behind...

Take 3: Viktor is a control freak egomaniac

This deeply compassionate and empathetic man has the potential in him to turn himself into a Wizard God playing puppet master with the multiverse. This is the man who landed on "everything would work out great and no one would need to suffer if I was the hub of the hivemind" before he moved on to "causal determinism effects everything with factors outside of anyone's control. Except mine. I'm different. I can figure out what to change to give some other version of me what I want."

There are so few universes where younger Viktor, if he didn't just disentangle himself from Jayce (no! bad!) wouldn't just go "sounds like that Viktor fucked it all up. But I'm different. And now I know how not to make the mistakes that bitch did" and now this greek tragedy story got even MORE hubris thrown into it. And you know Jayce Fucking Talis would just go "baby ur so right ur so smart and u so got this I'm so glad I was able to help fix this timeline" and then DIP

But why would Viktor focus himself on just nudging Jayce around and not himself?? He knows himself best after all right??

Take 3A: Viktor is a control freak egomaniac. ESPECIALLY in regards to Jayce Talis

What, like Viktor is going to go and find the best way to adjust HIMSELF and HIS arc? And thus NOT ensure that HE is the gravitational center of Jayce Talis' fate and existence??? Excuse you??? The man who went off the rails into Glorious Evolution because Jayce, for the first time in probably ever, would NOT get on Viktor's wavelength of his own free will??? Absolutely the fuck not.
