THE GLORIA SCOTT - part 2, and a follow up to my comic for the first half of this scene! thanks sm to @crashingmeteorz for allowing me to source validation for my whimsical cosmic approach to this moment <3
#sherlock & co#sherlock and co#i had such a distinct and vivid image for this scene in my mind when i first considered drawing it#but i was worried people might find it. too weird?? but . i dont want to draw 13 pages of two men lying on a bed#so heres my heavy visual metaphor for the ways in which i think john and sherlock are trying to connect with each other in this scene#i hope it makes sense!#i have so many feelings about this scene i cant put it into words so it had to be a comic instead#another note i was already working on this when joff's floorplan released and i didnt want to reshuffle the entire composition to conform#wouldnt have worked#but future comics will take the canon floorplan into account#uhmm#oh yeah also wanted to mention: i took inspiration from Space Boy the webcomic. so. read that if u vibe with this kind of storytelling#another thing: sleep well by electric president - tracks 4 5 and 6#patsart

Lydia sleeping on one side of the bed like she's leaving a space open for Betelgeuse at the end there. 😌
No but seriously she totally is? Subconsciously there's a space for him in her life always. I know I keep saying this, but she totally has feelings for him, buried inside her. What those feelings actually are is something she has to figure out. (She started that journey in BJBJ; she even got to face him and banish him and all. Did that manage whatever feelings she has for him though? Nope).
She's sleeping alone and yet she's leaving all that space next to her like she's sleeping with a spouse. The visual storytelling here implies she's longing for someone to take that space.
And who else is she longing for if not Betelgeuse? It's not Richard, hello. Ok it's past midnight and I'm exhausted so maybe I'm reaching. But this makes sense to me rn so I'm posting.
#Just like he considers them married so does she but subconsciously lol#Mark my words they'll finally be married in the next film#Beetlebabes#Beetlejuice x Lydia#Suddenly I'm remembering all that meta we used to write in the Supernatural fandom about how Dean slept to one side of the bed#because he was leaving the space next to him open for Cas#It's just that when it comes to a scene everything in the visual composition the audience is looking at has meaning#it's all choices made by a director to convey a message or a vision#a character sleeping in a large bed alone but keeping to one side of the bed#often means that character is longing for someone else#just visual storytelling stuff which there's plenty other bloggers better at analizing than me#I'm into storytelling but cinematography is its own thing

Hi! So I am relatively new to the Jedi games but became so quickly and deeply obsessed, and seeing another user send you a headcanon has inspired me to share one too, because I have no one I can talk about this stuff with IRL, haha. I guess a warning that it's kinda nsfw (like, VERY mildly), so it's TOTALLY okay if you don't want to post this.
Ever since finishing the game I've been thinking so much about Merrin and Cal and how their relationship will change now that they've admitted and embraced the fact that they have feelings for each other. Part of me for a while was thinking maybe Cal had his "first time" with someone he met through the Rebellion in the five-ish years between Fallen Order and Survivor, but the more I thought about it, the more I felt that it would be more in character for him to uphold the part of the Jedi code that forbids romantic attachments. Like, he was just so focused on fighting the Empire that even when a slight interest in a person did arise within him, he convinced himself that it was not only against the code, but a distraction from the fight. So, he pushed all those feelings away.
This leads me to my headcanon that Cal's first time is with Merrin after the events of Survivor. While I don't have lots of specifics in mind as to when or how it comes about, I imagine that when it does happen, it is the softest, slowest, sweetest first time in the history of first times. I like the idea of Cal, this person who dives headfirst into everything and (as Cameron once said himself) "kind of likes to fight," just being incredibly thoughtful and deliberate and maybe even nervous about allowing himself to be that vulnerable with another person. Like, all these powerful emotions and powerful physical feelings would be overcoming him, and the sheer magnitude of it all would cause him to slow down and ask Merrin to lead the way, and he'll follow, so that he knows he's not hurting her or taking things too fast.
And Merrin, who is always ribbing him and teasing him and having silly banter about who's stronger, who's faster, etc., abandons all of that during their first time and is just purely kind, patient, attentive, and present with him, taking pleasure in taking the lead and cherishing the trust that he's put in her. And when it's over, I like to think they just lay together talking quietly for who knows how long, with Cal holding Merrin tight against him and Merrin tracing her fingers along his skin, maybe along his tattoo or his scars, while they tell each other stories and pretend like they'll never have to get up and leave this wondrous place <3
My offline Star Wars community is pretty small, so it's nice to have people on here to share ideas with :) So glad you enjoy the Jedi games!!
There's a lot of narrative weight to Cal and Merrin: the Nightsister massacre being led by a lightsaber (Grievous), the manipulation from Malicos, the Jedi views of attachment and dark magick. They're both survivors of a war that destroyed their families, and they take turns helping each other heal and grow.
Almost every main character in FO/Survivor is a foil to Cal in some way - but unlike all these fallen Jedi, Merrin looks to the future and finds new purpose while still honoring her past. I think that's something Cal really admires in her.
I love the trust and steadiness that they have together regardless of romantic attraction. Admittedly I haven't read Battle Scars and didn't go into Survivor wanting a relationship for Cal, so I may not be the best person to share intimacy headcanons with?? But I'm supportive of the story Respawn wants to tell, and recognize the weight/importance of their connection when it comes to Jedi 3. These tags on my recent post are kind of where I'm at:
Also Star Wars is very much lacking in the "healthy relationship that LASTS and no one DIES" department so if these two can break the trend, that'd be great 🙌
#my favorite photomode shots tie into Survivor's narrative while also pushing the limits of the in-game idle animations#and these Cal/Merrin shots are super hard to make so it's a fun challenge! I can practice lighting and composition and storytelling!#but I also recognize that ship-adjacent posts do generally receive more attention#and want to make sure I'm not just creating stuff for likes - but to post what I care about and enjoy making#really sorry for going off-topic on your ask haha#I've been wrestling with this lately#also very thankful for gen fic writers in the FO/Survivor community <3#asks#jedi survivor#cal kestis#merrin#nightsister merrin

Happy STS! If you had to make your WIP a musical, what would you title the songs? What kind of music would be there?
OH this one's good
I'll do for the Snow White wip, because it's the most fleshed out:
1 arc (the set up) - I think there'd be first a solo song of June, after Rose (mc, the snow white) convinces her father to marry again for the sake of the kingdom, and then scene cuts and we get June being kicked out of home. Then as he is wandering alone at town we get a very miserable song. But since the first song has to stabilish either setting or characters, we can mix it up with a duet with Rose back at the castle! Like in that one Barbie and the Popstar song where they sing "her life i wanna have". The song would highlight their similarities instead of their differences, and they'd sing about how hard their life is now etc etc character stabilishment. Then as June walks through the town and decides to work at the Viscountess's manor and start a new chapter on his life, the songs shift to a more hopeful and determined tone and and ends stabilishing both their goals.
The second song (still on first arc) could be already on the ball! (Quick recap: The viscountess June starts working for is the noblelady who will later become the Evil Queen. June gets transferred to the royal palace to continue serving her and he and Rose meet. This is the ball to choose the new queen, like in Cinderella) Perhaps a villain song by Katarina (viscountess/to-be evil queen) stabilishing her own wants and talking about the castle and its riches that will soon belong to her. No, no, actually: could be a song of the people and the guests talking about the kingdom to stabilish setting better than the starting song did, and then we get a few lines from Katarina just to let it clear she's the villain. She gets the final words on the song and stabilishes her wants, to tell how this whole kingdom we showed in the song is gonna be hers.
Third song, end of the arc, could be after Rose finds out about Katarina's plans and tries to convince June (who sees his lady as a parental figure who took him in after being abandoned by his own parents) to turn against her and work with her. Have you heard Rewrite The Stars? Similar structure, but completely different positionings and subjects lol
In the fourth song we get the villain music. It starts with Katarina finding out they know her true intentions and planning her next move. It has a more triumphant tone stabilishing her character where the second song couldn't reach with her few lines, focusing more on her traits and what she and the people around her think of her. It has some threatening elements, and it gets a few moments before June and Rose notice she is onto them and decide to run away. While they flee, the song reaches its ending note, with Katarina promising she will get Rose back, for her ruling to be final. This one can also adress about in the start or the middle that Katarina feels betrayed by June but ends up throwing those feelings away and translating them into determination to reach her final objective.
2 arc (fleeing and regrouping) - This one would start with a small timeskip of a month at best. We have the kingdom of TibaÃ, seven hills away from Snow White's homecountry, with the corsary pirate Iraê. There has been a small string of small crimes in the area and her lord tells Iraê to go after the thieves (aka Rose and June trying to get by). She whines a bit, but goes after them and that's where the song starts: She goes through the city and talks a little about herself, not focusing much on the setting because we don't stay a lot of time here, but just enough so we don't feel strange on this novel scenario. This one song stabilishes her character, dreams and faults. We also get a few shots of her being flirty with local ladies, to stabilish her character as a freebie soul. Song ends before she finds Rose and June, when perhaps her lord calls her out, annoyed, that she is not taking anything seriously and it all ends abrubtly. The tone of the scene shifts to frustration, and then she manages to find Rose and June, her 'thieves'
(long story short, she gets their story out of them and decides to help them, because she wants a change of scenario in her life) The next song would probably be them getting out of this country as well, and getting into the next after they form a plan of action. Maybe it's divided in two parts, the first one being June and Rose being sad about their situation and then we get a music-less scene or two, and Iraê pulls the music back to cheer them up and we set a new objective
(actually there's a blank part in here on my current outline where probably Katarina sends in mercenaries to get Rose back, like the Hunter from the og fairy tale, and maybe Iraê deceives him with her Aweome Pirate skills. Maybe a song goes in the middle, not sure, and then the hunter goes back to the queen, defeated, and she gets perhaps one line relating to a past song ughhh idk actually)
3 arc (the prince) - They visit a queen nearby and present their situation, wanting to make an allyship to take down the Katarina. The queen says she'll help, but first she needs to know if they're trustworthy and asks them to find her son Cauã, the heir, who's disappeared. The trio takes the mission and goes after him, only to later find out he had actually ran away, and when he finds them we get a song stabilishing how he feels trapped in the castle, and we can drag a few themes back from the first stabilishing songs to tie him in the story better. It's very theatrical and stabilishes Cauã, and then in the middle someone from the trio (perhaps June) intervenes and turns the solo into a duet and convinces Cauã to go back
queen helps them, etcetera etcetera, fends a boat for them to go back to their kingdom and promises to make her word weight. Cauã asks to go along, to well, "prove they're serious about the allyship" (he just wants to travel) and we shift the scene back to the Kingdom, where one of Katarina's servants misses June and sings about that, but also shows us the trust she has in Katarina (she doesn't know), to tell the audience Katarina is not just an evil and vile monster, she is also a charismatic person who takes care of the one she has under her thumb and below all of that, is also an empathetic person. Still villainesque, but in this song, through the perspective of the servant we gotta show the audience all of her empathetic traits. (dont worry, Katarina actually appears more in the next couple of arcs because after a few problems with pirates we're back at the Kingdom and have Court Beef kind of conflicts)
The first half of the story ends in here so im gonna stop for now (maybe i continue later XD) before it gets even longer.
The songs names, to finish up, would probably go like: "New starts" (june + rose first song) "Down for the dawn" (ball song and where we stabilish Kat as the villain), "Come with me" (rose tries to convince june to join her), "Sunrise at Von Waldeck" (katarina's villain song and rose and june run away--von waldeck is her last name and the name of her former territory and manor), "Filthy thieves/In the honor of three oranges" (the corsary's song going after them/i can't decide a title but the three oranges would be the stolen goods), "Stars at dusk" (iraê cheers them up into a plan of action/i really can't pick a name for this one but i rlly want to keep this dawn theme going on and stars are hope soo), "Pitch gold heart" (the runaway prince's song that later turns into a duet with June), "Milady's late tea" (the servant song about Katarina and June in the end)
@leviabeat XD since you're technically in the snow white taglist even though i abandoned this wip for centuries
#i love musicals#thanks for the ask#storyteller saturday#asks#writingamongther0ses#sw wip#IM SORRY THIS ONE GOT LONG I JUST GOT TOO EXCITED#I REALLY LOVE THE COMPOSITION OF MUSICALS#(even though i haven't watched many)#the servant that sings the last song would be lucicarla btw but you guys prob dont know her#anyways thank you so so much for the ask#im terrible at picking names but this was fun

i feel like the difference between these two reveals just tells you everything you need to know about natla
#the amount of visual storytelling in the original#and then netflix just tosses his body on the ground like b-movie horror#you have less time to tell this story why are these shot compositions so wasteful#i thought they were at least setting up for some god rays with the broken ceiling but no he's just in the dirt in the shadows#like i guess that's its own storytelling but do they even understand that??? and is it worth it just to be ~gritty~#atla#tw death#natla

These are the 4 keyframes I did for the medieval + modern Artstation challenge. They depict the story of Maria and Darbo, two knights from the kingdom of Rafalm. In an alien world full of remnants of times long past. These characters are a part of my sci-fi fantasy universe ALLOY. This project took me around 2.5 weeks in total and was made mostly with Photoshop, aside from the 3D block-outs I made in Maya for the mech and the bike.

Anatomy of a Scene: Photobashing in ControlNet for Visual Storytelling and Image Composition
This is a cross-posting of an article I published on Civitai.
Initially, the entire purpose for me to learn generative AI via Stable Diffusion was to create reproducible, royalty-free images for stories without worrying about reputation harm or consent (turns out not everyone wants their likeness associated with fetish smut!).
In the beginning, it was me just hacking through prompting iterations with a shotgun approach, and hoping to get lucky.
I did start the Pygmalion project and the Coven story in 2023 before I got banned (deservedly) for a ToS violation on an old post. Lost all my work without a proper backup, and was too upset to work on it for a while.
I did eventually put in work on planning and doing it, if not right, better this time. Was still having some issues with things like consistent settings and clothing. I could try to train LoRas for that, but seemed like a lot of work and there's really still no guarantees. The other issue is the action-oriented images I wanted were a nightmare to prompt for in 1.5.
I have always looked at ControlNet as frankly, a bit like cheating, but I decided to go to Google University and see what people were doing with image composition. I stumbled on this very interesting video and while that's not exactly what I was looking to do, it got me thinking.
You need to download the controlnet model you want, I use softedge like in the video. It goes in extensions/sd-webui-controlnet/models.
I got a little obsessed with Lily and Jamie's apartment because so much of the first chapter takes place there. Hopefully, you will not go back and look at the images side-by-side, because you will realize none of the interior matches at all. But the layout and the spacing work - because the apartment scenes are all based on an actual apartment.
The first thing I did was look at real estate listings in the area where I wanted my fictional university set. I picked Cambridge, Massachusetts.
I didn't want that mattress in my shot, where I wanted Lily by the window during the thunderstorm. So I cropped it, keeping a 16:9 aspect ratio.
You take your reference photo and put it in txt2img Controlnet. Choose softedge control type, and generate the preview. Check other preprocessors for more or less detail. Save the preview image.
Lily/Priya isn't real, and this isn't an especially difficult pose that SD1.5 has trouble drawing. So I generated a standard portrait-oriented image of her in the teal dress, standing looking over her shoulder.
I also get the softedge frame for this image.
I opened up both black-and-white images in Photoshop and erased any details I didn't want for each. You can also draw some in if you like. I pasted Lily in front of the window and tried to eyeball the perspective to not make her like tiny or like a giant. I used her to block the lamp sconces and erased the scenery, so the AI will draw everything outside.
Take your preview and put it back in Controlnet as the source. Click Enable, change preprocessor to None and choose the downloaded model.
You can choose to interrogate the reference pic in a tagger, or just write a prompt.
Notice I photoshopped out the trees and landscape and the lamp in the corner and let the AI totally draw the outside.
This is pretty sweet, I think. But then I generated a later scene, and realized this didn't make any sense from a continuity perspective. This is supposed to be a sleepy college community, not Metropolis. So I redid this, putting BACK the trees and buildings on just the bottom window panes. The entire point was to have more consistent settings and backgrounds.
Here I am putting the trees and more modest skyline back on the generated image in Photoshop. Then i'm going to repeat the steps above to get a new softedge map.
I used a much more detailed preprocessor this time.
Now here is a more modest, college town skyline. I believe with this one I used img2img on the "city skyline" image.
