Once upon a time, there was a Good Omens fanfiction reader, who swore they didn't like AUs.
They read all the discussions about the 'classics', the 'must reads' and shrugged.
"But it's not canon", they muttered to themself. "They're not human. How on Earth can anyone write these stories about them when they're not actually bloody human? It’s not right."
And then, dear reader, they were persuaded to read just one AU. They were still an angel and a demon, just in a slightly different universe. And then...then they tried a human AU. And then...then they were hooked. Obsessed, one might say.
That reader, dear reader, was me. Of course. Obviously. Well, duh. And I would like to share the obsession in the form of some recommendations.
I have the wonderful @shadesofecclescakes to thank for MANY of these absolute beauties, she is absolutely the QUEEN of recommendations (and medicinal gifs).
So, now, in no particular order, some Highly Recommended AUs:
Or Be Nice by charlottemadison Rated E - A is a bookseller, C is a drummer, they are BOTH petty bitches. They're newly neighbours. C has a CAT and I'm there for it, he also has migraines and I hard relate. It's bitchy and the pranks were DIVINE. It was also deliciously spicy. The loveliness is that the author really captured the flawed nature of humans but also how it can be overcome. Same author as What We Make of It (what was Shotgun Wedding - an absolute GO AU CLASSIC and one of the best things I've ever read)
Not a Mounted Dildo but a Fuck Machine by NaroMoreau & summerofspock Rated E - So very, very E. This one was just filthy. So wonderfully filthy. The authors would like to tell you there was no plot to their porn, but there really was. A meets a girl online, because A is straight. He really is. Honest. But then, oops, lockdown happens. But, it's a good thing, really. For his best homeboy C is there, to help this poor virgin 'learn the ropes' for when lockdown is over and he goes on his first date...with the girl he's so very much into...coz, no homo, yo...;)
The Whole Damned World Seemed Upside Down by WyvernQuill Rated M - An AU in the way that it's still angel/demon but after Crowley makes a wish for things to be 'different', the universe obliges...and he's dumped into a reality which is very, very different to what he knew. He learns some truths and there's a whole lot of drama. Beautifully written with a wonderful plot and great drama. Excellently described and would make for great TV. (Oh, and Death in the new reality is really squeamish - it's brilliant.)
Telling Tall Tales by Siobhans_World Rated E - A sweet pretend relationship fic, where A pretends to be Maggie's boyfriend to help her pass as straight for her family. But he then meets her cousin, C, who he then inevitably (ineffably?) falls for. Miscommunication, angst, fluff, gay panic, it's got everything.
Flawless by @mrghostrat & @chernozemm Rated E - I've decided only to include one fic by each author and boyyy was it hard for ghostrat! But Flawless was, well, flawless. For such a relatively short story, it kept us guessing until the end. The characters were all beautifully written - the flaws (ha.) were DEEP and CRACKED but so fucking perfectly sculpted and presented. It was incredibly real and believable. Extremely maturely written and satisfying. AND THE ART!!!
How To Pull An Angel: A Bunnings DIY Guide by NascentSurrender Rated M - When I first saw the title, I thought it was going to be a silly, irreverent, comedy romp. But it was actually a funny, well written story that will stick in my mind always. Firstly, C watches Bluey - which is now CANON for me. Secondly, having lived in Aus as a child, I've got a soft spot for the country anyway, and I've barely ever seen it come up, so this was lovely. There were some wonderfully humorous bits, but also tender and beautiful moments that I adored.
Montreal Confidential by Maggie_Honeybite Rated E - I learned about Montreal (and Canada & their baked goods), classical music and mafia stuff in this fic. A is a widower. C plays the cello. His cello's name is Bentley. This is one of the only age-gap, mild D/s fics I've actually gotten into. There's fluff AND drama. CW for non-con (not A/C)
Under the Summer Stars by @pannotbread Rated E - an amazing astrophysics/astroecology/astrobiology fic that has pining, slow burn and Only One Telescope (yes, really, and it's everything you'd imagine). It's got beautifully written (erotic) imagery and So Much Science that's been written accessibly but still with amazing detail. It's poetry. It's hot. It's gorgeous. CW for internalised homophobia and self hatred. *Not completed yet*
Oddity by @tsyvia48 Rated E - A museum fic! About David Bowie! A is in charge of collections, C is an actor hired by (highly incompetent) Gabriel to guest curate a new Bowie exhibit. Miscommunication ensues for delicious tension. There's bitchiness, there's a bit of light angst, there's a lotta love. *Not Completed Yet* Poetry Carved In Flesh by @fellandcrow Rated E - I'm obsessed by tattoos. Hence, I am obsessed by this story. I'm planning a(n enormous) GO tattoo once GO3 is out, and this fic has actually helped me with my ideas. London-based A stalks lovingly follows Edinburgh-based tattoo artist C online. They build up a rapport. Well, C likes A. A is SMITTEN with C. C encourages A to get tattoos. Which he does. C designs a tattoo especially for A, the fic has currently left off at the point where C is in London and going to tattoo A. *Not Completed Yet*
There Is A Light & It Never Goes Out by @phoen1xr0se Rated M - A escapes from a disappointing, chaotic life to a remote island for five months to do research on puffins. There he meets lighthouse keeper C. Who also ran away, 20 odd years ago. There is a chaotic, found family on the island, but it is small, and it is lovely. This fic is written with love and passion and the imagery is so beautiful. The author has actually gone to do Actual. Physical. Research. on puffins. So how is THAT for dedication? Cannot wait until it resumes. *Not Completed Yet*
Ok, because I am Bad At Tumblr, I've not tagged the majority of authors, if you are on here - please let me know if you're here and I'll edit!
I should probably add in the following, I suppose. I'm writing an AU.
Free by, well, me. Imposterssyndrome (yes I know it's Imposter Syndrome, but that one already existed) Rated E - A runs a bookshop, C has an unfortunate past as a runaway ex-addict. They meet in an acute mental health ward after both having had a mental health crisis. Eventually A invites C to move in, and they navigate sharing a space, and their lives together. The story starts heavy, and is an emotional roller coaster, but there are moments of fluff and smut mixed in. There is a happy ending, I promise. It's a passion project, heavily researched and has a LOT of lived experience in it. I've gotten to know some amazing people through it who have messaged me and shared their experiences and I'm so glad I wrote it. *Not Completed Yet*
Last thing to say - once I finish Free, I will be teaming up with @shadesofecclescakes to write another human AU which is VERY much in her wheelhouse and I CANNOT FUCKING WAIT. I just know you're all going to LOVE it. The only thing that will make it even better is ART, so we're still on the hunt for someone.
**Last-last thing to say. I’ve missed off a few Biggies. There are some super popular AUs, mostly written around 2019. Most people will have read them. I’ve tried to focus on the perhaps lesser-known & WIP ones. Although I know many people don’t read WIPs, hopefully you’ll (book)mark them for future!**

Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger Photo Book: ~King of Kings~
Gira Husty Profile: King of Shugoddam, the most powerful country where the guardian god resides. Learning of king Racules Husty's goal of "prioritizing the unity of Chikyu, even at the expense of the people," he rebels against the world by playing the role of an "evil king" in order to protect everyone. His partner is God Kuwagata, and he arms himself with the KuwagataOhger armor.
Yanma Gast Profile: King of N'kosopa, country of technology. Born in a slum, he rose to the position of king with just his computer. He's a skilled engineer, and all of the equipment for the Royal Sentai was developed by Yanma. He's an ambitious man with a desire to improve, with many people looking up to and calling him "President" due to his yankii spirit.
Hymeno Ran Profile: Queen of Ishabana, country of fine art and medicine. While beautiful in appearance, she has an extremely selfish personality, and values "beauty" above all else. On the other hand, she has no hesitation in saving someone's life, and has the face of a doctor who brilliantly saves lives. She maintains a "selfish style" in battle, not caring about her surroundings, and fights using the King's Weapon: Scythe Mode.
Rita Kaniska Profile: King of Gokkan, country of ice and snow, they're the Chief International Judge who believes that neutrality is justice. They're always reserved and cautious, and don't show emotion, so they're often seen as a stubborn person……but, they actually have a compassionate side……? At the climax of the battle, they face the enemy with a cool style of "remaining immovable," unaffected by anything.
Kaguragi Dybowski Profile: Lord of Toufu, an agricultural country. He's always smiling and has a gentle and friendly personality. However, the truth is he's willing to use dirty tricks to protect his country, and has exceptional negotiating techniques to get things done to work to his advantage. He's concerned about his younger sister Suzume, who married Shugoddam's Racules.
Jeramie Brasieri Profile: Born to a father who was the sixth hero that saved mankind 2,000 years ago and a mother who was a Bugnarak, he has passed down the history of Chikyu for a long time as the "storyteller." His right arm is that of a Bugnarak, and he has a special ability to create strong webs from inside his body. His existence stirs up both the kings and Bugnarak, using words and actions that are difficult to read.
Racules Husty Profile: As king of Shugoddam, he united the five kingdoms with his unparalleled and overwhelming charisma, but was defeated in trial by combat with his brother Gira, and was dethroned as king. While Gira and the others were away from Chikyu, he became the king of Shugoddam and ruled the country as Shugo Mask……
Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger: Costume Guide The gorgeous costumes of the kings, which are reminiscent of the characteristics of each country. A guide to the current costumes and accessories worn by the characters since the beginning of the story.
Gira Husty (Top) Costume of Gira, who replaced Racules as king of Shugoddam. The cape remains the same, but the costume and boots underneath have changed!
(Middle) His recognizable oversized shirt and the bright red harness that highlight it. Red and black straps cross over the wide collar.
(Bottom) The brown boots were worn by Gira as he escaped during the beginning of the story. The necklace is designed with five pieces of red glass.
Yanma Gast (Top Right) Costume from the start of the new chapter two years later. The jacket has a design with a black belt hanging down. The cuffs have a zipper that can be opened and closed.
(Top Left) The wide pants are designed to be divided into upper and lower parts above the knee. The inner one has two lines on the front part. The color blue is used strikingly throughout.
(Middle) The cuff earring has ridges that grow alongside the ear, two chains, and N'kosopa's "King's Proof." The headphones have a cord connected to a switch.
(Bottom) Items that Yanma wears on his arms. The design of the shoes are silver with blue accents. They also have decorations that resemble headphones.
Kaguragi Dybowski (Top) A luxurious and gorgeous costume that just screams, "I'm the lord of Toufu!" The sleeves of the haori have a distinct pattern on both the front and back. The beehive like patterns are also a key point.
(Bottom) The footwear seen under his kimono are boots. Furthermore, the soles are shaped to be like geta.
Hymeno Ran (Top) From the new chapter, the shape of the sleeves and skirt have changed, and the large ribbon on the back is also one of its main features. The asymmetrical skirt produces cuteness and elegance. The tiara contains the "King's Proof."
(Middle Top) The previous costume was made up of a top, skirt, and corset. The skirt has volume, with the front being short and the back being long. The corset is laced up at the back.
(Middle Bottom) The sequin encrusted tights are the same design throughout the entire story. Also, the glittering shoes made entirely of gold are one of Hymeno's signature items.
(Bottom) Hymeno's Favorite Accessories: Hymeno has a large number of accessories, including earrings, necklaces, and bracelets, which among them she'll use at random. This is the commitment to beauty!
Rita Kaniska (Top Right) From the new chapter, Rita's clothes changed to a shorter length jacket. The metallic purple collar accentuates the black base color of the outfit.
(Top Left) The previous costume was a tailcoat type of long jacket. The black cloth is decorated with snowflake like patterns. The design of the purple collar and cuffs are the same as the costume for the new chapter.
(Bottom Left) The black gloves are one of the most distinctive features of Rita's costume. The bracelet decorated in the center has Gokkan's "King's Proof." There's a similar emblem on the cuff earring.
(Bottom Right) Rita is characterized by their all black outfit. Their knee length long boots are of course, also all black.
Jeramie Brasieri From the new chapter, an elegant cape has been added to Jeramie's costume. In the previous costume, his right arm had a longer sleeve. The top is asymmetrical with the left side being longer.

Jenny Jugo (Victoria in Dover, A hopeless Case, Our Miss Doctor)—I just love her! She was an Austrian actress during the 20s & 30s & 40s who was among the big UFA stars. She was beautiful but still appeared to be natural and likeable. Often she played witty, smart, independent and confident (for the time) modern women both in silent and in talking movies. For example in one movie she's a maths teacher who has to prove herself to her male colleagues who doubt she is actually good at mathematics. And she ends up not only being successful at teaching the high-school graduates but even getting to lecture mathematics at university afterwards. (Our Miss Doctor) Or in A Hopeless Case she plays a young woman who is very superficial and spoilt at first but then decides against marrying the good situated man her father wants her to marry and instead is dedicated to successfully study medicine although everyone advises her to stop. She's really a great actress who I always enjoyed seeing in movies ever since I was a child. (Also she always appeared to have thick curly hair which was a great representation for little curly haired me because in movies you rarely see women with that hair type being considered beautiful as well.)
Mary Pickford (Coquette, Tess of the Storm Country)—"America’s Sweetheart”, “Queen of Hollywood”, her and Douglas Fairbanks were the og it couple, owned her own movie studio, had both a drink and a hairstyle named after her
This is round 1 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Jenny Jugo:

Mary Pickford:
She was a pioneer in early cinema! She acted, wrote, and produced numerous films and was one of the founders of the United Artists film studio, along with Charlie Chaplin and her husband, Doug Fairbanks. At the height of her career in the 1920s there was nobody more famous. She was widely known as "America's Sweetheart." She won an Oscar in 1929 for her performance in Coquette (1929) and then a lifetime achievement Oscar in 1979.
She was an absolute pioneer in the very early days of feature films. She co-founded United artists and managed her career brilliantly.
Mary Pickford wasn't just a silent star, she was a huge historical figure for film. I really cannot emphasize how involved she was in creating and shaping the film world. She was completely passionate about the theater world (from a young age!) and still revered even after she lost relevance. Her tenacity, her beauty, and her intelligence is what made her the first actress labeled as "America's Sweetheart." She just has this glow, a wonderful sweet disposition, and warm heart. She often introduced other women to motion picture and helped them showcase their talent. She was an astute business woman, although when asked about this she said "Well you know this business angle is much exaggerated, because most people don't expect much sense of a woman 5 feet tall. If I were 5 feet 8 they would say I was a very poor business woman!" She was friends with Amelia Earheart and had terrible luck in love. Please just learn about or give thought to my sad small sweet girl.

Roger Barel Main Route - Chapter 6
As usual, can’t guarantee 100% accuracy on this. I’m doing this for archiving purposes and you can probably find a better translation out there.
Kate and co.’s lively voices could be heard throughout Crown’s castle’s garden.
There, two figures slink about unnoticed.
Nica: Oh, sounds like they’re having fun. Crown’s closer than I thought. They’re like a “family”.
Ring: …
Nica: What’s wrong, Ring? Do you want to be their friend?
Ring: Ah, well…
Nica: You can’t. You know we’re not here to make friends.
Ring: I know that. I’ll only follow what you and Dari tell me to do.
Nica: I don’t want to control you like a puppet, Ring. But if that’s what you want, then I will.
Eyes peek through a blue-grey gap before landing on Roger.
Nica: Roger Barel. Apparently he’s conducting research on Cursed Ones.
Ring: Research on Cursed Ones? That guy…what does he want to do?
Nica: Who knows. Maybe it’s research that’ll interfere with our ambitions. The kind that will shake the meaning of our existence.
Ring: …Should we eliminate him? No one will notice if I take care of it.
Nica: What are you talking about, Ring? We’re here as goodwill ambassadors. We have to stay white and clean for now. Besides, that guy can be both poison and medicine for Vogel, so let’s let him go for now.
Ring: But—
Suddenly, his lips curled into a ferocious smile.
Nica: The nail that sticks out gets the hammer* and beautiful flowers get plucked. Let’s just hope no one else notices him and makes him disappear.
--
—Meanwhile.
Within the palace, “Her Majesty the Queen’s Privy Council” is full of frustration.
Privy Council Lord: A few days ago, “Vogel”, an organization under German rule, arrived as goodwill ambassadors. Why don’t the chief of Vogel and his subordinates show any interest in us? Instead, they’re only interested in “Crown”...
One member spat out words full of hatred, and the others joined in on cursing Crown.
Privy Council Lord: With strange powers called curses, they do whatever they want under Her Majesty the Queen. This stain on our country must be erased!
Privy Council member: Her Majesty must be out of her mind, keeping these cursed monsters as pets.
Privy Council Lord: As the Privy Council, we must protect Her Majesty before Crown’s existence becomes known to the public.
Privy Council member: Crown must be dissolved then.
This was what “Her Majesty the Queen’s Privy Council” wanted.
Privy Council member: …But to object to an organization directly under Her Majesty’s control, you must know a weakness.
Privy Council Lord: Let’s look for a weakness immediately. The best kind to take Crown down.
Little did they know that darkness was about to creep back into “Crown”...
--
Kate: *sigh*...I’m finally done.
Finally free from my self-defense class, I trudged up the stairs with wounds all over.
(I need to work my legs out more…)
Exhausted, I rubbed my weary legs that wouldn’t even let me climb up the stairs.
Concealed under my skirt was a garter belt holding a gun wrapped around a leg.
The gun was a gift from Roger.
~~ Flashback ~~
Roger: Kate, I got something for you. The best from Victor’s armory.
Kate: A…gun?
Roger: Give it here. I’ll teach you how to shoot.
When I handed the gun back to Roger, he immediately fired at a distant target.
(Amazing…)
Roger: The height you hold the barrel depends on the opponent’s feet. In close range, point it down. Long range, horizontal. If you’re in a room, on a train, or some place with obstacles, you can point it up. But keeping it steady takes practice. If the muzzle’s shaking, you have a higher chance of hitting a comrade so the basic rule is to aim down.
Roger explains while demonstrating with the gun.
Roger: That’s about it. Now we just have to practice.
Kate: I’ll give it a shot…
The gun was placed back into my hand and I held it up like I was instructed.
Roger: Grip it like this. Yeah, good. Keep your finger on the trigger…no, don’t squeeze it. Loosen up.
Kate: Okay.
Roger: Relax. Just pull it back.
Roger’s hand slowly moves away from the gun and I pull the trigger.
—There was a dry sound and a bullet grazed the target.
Roger: A little more to the left. Fire them all.
Kate: …
I repositioned my arm and fired in rapid succession.
Roger: Out of 6 rounds, 1 was a hit. 2 grazed the target. Not bad for a first time. I’ll add this to your training so you better start doing push-ups every day. Also— Kate, use this as a last resort. Got it?
~~ Flashback end ~~
(At the time, Roger looked a little scared…no, he looked serious)
My breath shuddered at the memory and I heard the sound of a piano coming from somewhere…
(It sounds beautiful. Who’s…?)
I followed the sound and opened the door.
William: …
There sat William playing the piano.
He glanced at me, raised his fingers high and then continued playing dramatically.
The song eventually comes to an end with a decrescendo and as the final note fades, I give a generous round of applause.
Kate: So it was William playing the piano so beautifully.
William: Thank you for the praise, Kate.
In response to my applause, William gracefully placed his hand on his chest and then suddenly lowered his gaze.
William: Ah…He gave you a gun. Robin with a gun is quite the image.
Kate: H-how did you know? It’s concealed under my skirt.
William: I could tell from the way you walked. When going undercover, be careful not to let others notice.
Kate: The way I walked…I hadn’t considered that.
William: However, it looks like you’re growing well. The “robin growth map” was it?
(Ugh…it’s embarrassing hearing it said to you)
William’s smiling, blood-red eyes held a subdued power that seemed to see through everything.
(William’s a curious person)
(It’s like he knows everything, but I’m not uncomfortable)
William: Kate, do you know why Roger uses a hunting rifle?
Kate: No…Now that I think about it, Roger’s the only one that uses one.
(Everyone else uses either swords or pistols…)
Roger’s hunting rifle stood out and as an amateur, I thought it looked difficult to use.
Kate: I was under the impression that hunting rifles were used by people with good eyesight. So initially I wondered why.
William: One reason is that he used to go hunting with his father, so he’s familiar with it. The other is because of his “abnormal hearing”.
My eyes widened at the unexpected answer.
Kate: Ah, Roger can tell where a target is by listening out for them!
William: That’s right. Rather than risk injuries at close range, he can shoot from a distance. It’s very like Roger to value efficiency. However, those are the reasons he gives. I’m sure there are others.
Kate: Other reasons…?
William: Did you know, Robin.
William spoke softly.
It was like he was telling a fairy tale.
William: In war, 80% of those given guns wouldn’t “dare” to shoot the enemy.
Kate: …I didn’t know that.
The percentage is a lot higher than I expected.
Kate: Even when faced with the enemy, it might be too much pressure to shoot another person…
William: What if it’s a hunting rifle? A hunting rifle’s original purpose is to hunt beasts, not people. It would be an undeniable evil for a former doctor to kill someone, even if it’s to condemn them.
At that moment, I remembered—Roger’s serious expression when he was teaching me how to use a gun.
William: I heard from Victor that when Roger joined Crown, he chose the hunting rifle.
Kate: He chose the hunting rifle on purpose…?
William’s smile was an affirmation.
Roger willingly chose the hunting rifle to kill people and condemn them of their evil, while also having the skills to save lives.
Roger had more knowledge about medicine than anyone else, yet called himself a former doctor and lived in darkness.
(...The more I learn about Roger, the more questions I have)
Why did Roger decide to live on with Crown?
It wasn’t just out of curiosity—that is obvious…
(Would I be able to ask him why?)
(And William…)
Kate: Um, why did you give me this information about Roger?
William: Hm?
Kate: You don’t seem like the kind of person that says things without a reason.
William: I see…
William frowned in thought.
William: Perhaps it’s because humans are creatures who meet people and gain wisdom at the right time.
Like the scriptures in the Bible, his words weren’t immediately understood.
But it felt like I received some sort of “guidance”.
Kate: I don’t really understand, but..thank you.
William: You’re welcome.
Kate: Ah, that’s right. William!
(There was something I wanted to ask him)
Kate: I was told that the palace library has books on medicine.
William: Books on medicine?
Kate: Um…Since I’m going to be around Roger, I thought it’d be good to gain some knowledge.
William: Wouldn’t it be easier to ask Roger?
Kate: I can’t.
William: Why?
I want to make him happy with my growth
I want to beat him
It’s a secret surprise +4 +4
Kate: I want to keep it a secret and surprise Roger later.
William: So it’s a special surprise.
William chuckled when he heard about my plan.
William: In that case, I’ll show you the way. Of course, I’ll keep it a secret from Roger.
--
—That night, Roger and I were summoned to Victor’s office at the palace.
Victor: Her Majesty has entrusted Roger and his exclusive Fairytale Keeper with a mission.
(Our next mission…)
Since Roger started teaching me a lot of things, I’ve felt myself grow every day.
Realizing that it was time to put my abilities to the test, I straightened up.
Victor: There's a village out in the countryside. It may be small, but it’s a special place where the people live by their own rules.
Roger: Hmm, is that what they call village customs? What’s wrong with it?
Victor: The other day, skeletons were found in the mountain by the village. There were a lot of them.
I came to the realization that the previous mission to infiltrate the “death party” was a lot simpler than the usual missions.
I quietly swallowed down the fear rising from my chest and mentally organized the mission.
Kate: But burials are normal in this country, and if it’s the village’s custom, then—
Victor: I had thought so too. So I did some research. Police sent to investigate the village never returned.
(Even the police…that can only mean something’s happened in the village)
Victor: And I found something else. There is a village chief who they call the spirit god. Supposedly this man can ward off illness.
(Spirit god…? The heck…)
Roger and Kate: That’s really suspicious!
Grimacing, we both said it at the same time.
Roger: I see. If illnesses are involved, then I’m the right guy. It’s possible this man’s a new Cursed One…
Kate: New Cursed One?
Roger: It’s nothing.
(What are you talking about?)
While I tilted my head in confusion, Roger spoke enthusiastically.
Roger: Alright. Kate and I will go undercover at the village. And we’ll expose the evil spread in the sandbox. Right, Kate?
(This time I’ll help out with the mission and not be a burden as Fairytale Keeper!)
Kate: Right, leave it to us.
Victor: Thank you. Liam, with his power to disappear, will sneak into the village first and gather intelligence. Once you’re in the village, make contact with him without getting noticed.
Victor turned toward us—
Victor: Roger, Kate. Don’t get hurt. Now, let’s pledge allegiance to evil.
He sent us off with a few words that were very “Crown-like”.

Hi, how are you ? Can I request a one-shot with king baldwin iv ? Where baldwin's s/o is heavily pregnant (6-8) and they retired to a country side cottage till the birth. Baldwin cooks for her, takes her on picnics, takes her to a lake which is located near their cottage to watch swans with her, read to her. Basically showering her with all the love & affection . He is healed too. So this is kind of a rest to him too. NO GUY. Sybilla's husband doesnt die so he looks after the kingdom while the couple rest. Tiberias being the proud uncle too.
So, I was reading about Michael Langdon x pregnant reader fic and this idea came to my head since Young Michael Langdon is how I imagined baldwin without the disease . Your fics are great specially ones where baldwin get more domestic . Love you and sending u lots of hugs <3 !!!
P.S. - Sorry if this is too long 🥲
♡ Just The Two Of Us - King Baldwin x Reader ♡
♡ Fluff ♡
A/N: Hello Anon! Thank you so much for this gorgeous request. This is so beautiful and was so cute to write. Also thank you for the kind words, sending lots of love🩷. As always, this is based on the film Kingdom Of Heaven, not the real historical figures. Enjoy!
TW: Mentions of Cured Leprosy
It had been exactly seven months since the king and queen of Jerusalem abdicated the throne for a more peaceful life in the countryside of France.
The decision was made one year after Baldwin’s leprosy had been cured by a new kind of medicine and one month after it was announced that y/n was pregnant with their first born.
The long trip to France was well worth the wait after a small cottage in the countryside had been secured for the two to live in. Everything had been perfect.
Sybilla and her husband had taken over the royal duties, the kingdom was doing well, and the two could not be happier where they were.
-----------------------
One late spring afternoon, y/n had just finished with her bath and entered the kitchen to see Baldwin packing up a large basket.
He grinned when he saw her. His smile was a little crooked due to the leprosy scars but was just about the cutest thing she had ever seen.
Baldwin was quick to wrap his wife in a warm embrace, burying his face in her soft, freshly washed hair. Y/n chuckled at his affection.
Before his leprosy had been cured, Baldwin had been nervous about showing his wife affection due to fear of transmitting the disease to her. But since the awful illness had released him from its grasp, he simply could not get enough of her touch.
“What's the basket for darling?” y/n asked when he finally let her go.
“Well, that's a surprise!” he said cheerfully.
“Why don't you put on your shoes and I'll show you” he said, barely able to contain his excitement.
Once they were ready to leave, Baldwin picked up the basket and held out an arm for his wife to hold. After walking for a little while, the two came to a large pond that y/n had not seen before.
It was a beautiful place. Wildflowers of all different colors grew out of the bright green grass, the water of the pond was so clear you could see fish swimming through it, and the only insects in sight were butterflies that fluttered around the flowers close to the ground. There were even swans that glided peacefully around the lake.
In amongst the flowers lay a large blanket. Y/n smiled warmly at the beautiful sight.
“I planned a picnic! I thought it would be nice to do for just the two of us, since it won't be only us in a while” Baldwin said happily, placing a hand on his wifes heavily pregnant stomach.
“Baldwin, this is so beautiful. Thank you so much my sweet husband” Y/n said, her heart practically swelling in her chest.
"Not as beautiful as you" he replied, taking his wife's hand to help her sit down.
--------------------
That afternoon, they enjoyed the warmth of spring together in the grass. For one of the first times in Baldwin’s life, he felt at home. Like this was exactly where he was supposed to be. All of the hardship and pain he had endured was worth it for this moment.
They spoke of many things as they ate their lunch. Including how this life suited Baldwin much better than the role of a king. This was what he wanted.
Just being here with his wonderful wife and their growing child was all he could ever want.
He finally had a family of his own, a family who he could love with all his heart. And it was all thanks to his beautiful y/n.
She was his strength, his everything. She was all he could ever ask for and now she was growing life inside of her body. Life that they created together.
Could anything possibly be more beautiful than that?

Saw the post about the Chain and their god domains and my greek mythos obsessed brain got scritched so here is the Chain as Greek gods/mythos:
Time: The old man gave me such a hard time. absolutely going insane over him. He’s Hades. being one of the big three (this fucker split the timeline (almost like how the underworld is split)). Ive never finished MM or OoT but i believe the lore is that all the masks are possessed to put it simply, thus the spirits granting link his power, making Time a maestro of the dead. Many interpretations of hades also depict him as cunning, a trickster, while also being stern, much like our resident little shit (affectionate). Hermes was a big contender here for that reason.
Sky: This was a toss up but im gonna have to say Zeus honestly, mister Godslayer himself. less of a connection between their personalities honestly and more just focusing on their similar dynamics, skills, and symbolism. Obviously we have our favorite lightning motif, plus the position of leadership they both share - in the sense that zeus is more or less the leader of the gods and sky being the ‘leader’ so to speak of the timeline. Plus the parallels between demise and kronos, and zeus/sky’s respective roles there. It was between the big man or persephone.
Twilight: Artemis!! Our very literal leader of the pack. Goddess of the hunt, patron of animals, domain over the moon (cough twilight cough). Though, Demeter and hestia were fighting me here, the fursona won over the country bumpkin sadge.
Warriors: You are Athena! badass in the arena! /ref. Honestly, i feel like i should be assigning them their ‘obvious’ gods and then give them one that attaches to them more symbolically. Yes, everyone’s favorite captain is THE captain goddess. Cunning, strategist, warhead, intelligent, and alot of people forget that Athena is both charismatic and incredibly physically beautiful, in most adaptations. she was in the lineup for paris and guided the trojan war. I forget who it was on here that is a big “wars = helen of troy” truther but theyre absolutely so correct.
Legend: Also a tricky toss up, but i ultimately landed on apollo. Apollo’s known for being a sort of jack of all trades god, between his dominion over the sun, medicine, music, archery, and more. With the vet’s all encompassing experience, with his multitude of instruments and proficiencies in different magical items it made sense. Me, personally, I loved the stories of apollos shape-shifting mortal ventures more than say zeus or any of the other gods. Also, depending on your characterization of the vet, their supposed personalities line up quite well, with apollo being charming and somewhat arrogant/snarky with others
Hyrule: This feels left-field but rulie gets to be Persephone! Adept with magic, goddess of fertility and the harvest and just general growth (of nature), with the double edge of being the queen of the underworld. Ugh im so obsessed with downfall duo rulie is so tragic. left with a desolate wasteland, yet (depending on characterization) ushering in and doing his damndest to nurture life and growth. I love the headcanons where rulie is a survivalist through and through, proficiencies in botany and herbology, respect for the land and its inhabitants.
Wild: Demeter! Wild is of the land, they are one and the same. The way his world is absolutely teeming with life, and the way he is molded to adapt and live with the land to complete his adventure,,, ugh its too good. He is the most in tune with the wolves, the bees, the cows, the reeds, the flowers, the dragons, the spirits, they ARE him. he woke up with NOTHING, except a vast land full to bursting with life and lessons.
Four: Hephaestus, obviously. dont get me wrong, I love four so much, but anything else felt blasphemous (The way i could write essays about it—). He is the god of blacksmithing, if i assigned him anything else i fear he may just manage to kill me.
Wind: Notos! God of the east Wind, known for the bringing of summer, cyclones, and warmth. love that funky little whirlwind hes so fun and spunky. being a god of wind was so on the nose it was too good. I didnt ever consider poseidon, winds too squishy and fluid for that. this kid is bouncing around like a cat 5 hurricane he is the wind, he is free (to cause chaos).
Ugh i love yapping about the mythologies. i may do this again except with minor gods/demigods (i will get back to that legend-achilles parallel i swear). I hope this was amusing to you
OKAY OKAY GO OFF!!!!
(I’m a huge Wars = Helen of Troy truther, I ain’t the only one, but I’ve yapped about it a lot akdkkdk)
you absolutely ate this up on my god i agree i agree i agree i agree. LEGEND AND ACHILLES?? SIGN ME THE FUCK UP IF YOU EVER FEEL LIKE YAPPIN ABOUT THAT THE FLOOR IS YOURS AND THE ASK BOX IS OPEN ID LOVE TO HEAR IT

White Plume
White Plume is a hero tale of the Sioux nation featuring the supernatural trickster figure Unktomi (Iktomi) who serves as a catalyst for transformation, whether for good or ill. In this story, Unktomi is the villain whereas in others, such as The Bound Children, he is a force for good. The tale is among the most popular Sioux legends.
Text
The following is taken from Myths and Legends of the Sioux (1916) by Marie L. McLaughlin. It has been edited for space considerations, but the unabridged tale will be found below in the External Links section.
There once lived a young couple who were very happy. The young man was noted throughout the whole nation for his accuracy with the bow and arrow, and was given the title of "Dead Shot," or "He who never misses his mark," and the young woman, noted for her beauty, was named Beautiful Dove.
One day a stork paid this happy couple a visit and left them a fine big boy…Time passed, and the boy grew up to a good size, when one day his father said: "Wife, give our son the bow and arrows so that he may learn how to use them." The father taught his son how to string and unstring the bow, and also how to attach the arrow to the string. The red, blue and yellow arrows, he told the boy, were to be used only whenever there was any extra good shooting to be done, so the boy never used these three until he became a master of the art…
One day the boy came running into the tent, exclaiming: "Mother, mother, I have shot and killed the most beautiful bird I ever saw”…The parents decided to give a big feast in honor of their son killing the strange, beautiful bird…The guests soon arrived…The great chief and medicine men pronounced the bird "Wakan" (something holy)…, the chief and councilmen bestowed upon the boy the title of White Plume.
One day, a stranger came to the village, who was very thin and nearly starved…After he had eaten and rested, he told his story.
"I came from a very great distance," said he. "The nations where I came from are in a starving condition. No place can they find any buffalo, deer nor antelope. A witch or evil spirit in the shape of a white buffalo has driven all the large game out of the country…Another evil spirit in the form of a red eagle has driven all the birds of the air out of our country…Many a marksman has tried his skill on this bird, all to no purpose…Another evil spirit in the form of a white rabbit has driven out all the animals which inhabit the ground, and destroyed the fields of corn and turnips, so the nation is starving, as the arrows of the marksmen have also failed to touch the white rabbit. Anyone who can kill these three witches will receive as his reward, the choice of two of the most beautiful maidens of our nation. The younger one is the handsomer of the two and has also the sweetest disposition. Many young, and even old men, hearing of this (our chief's) offer, have traveled many miles to try their arrows on the witches, but all to no purpose. Our chief, hearing of your great marksmanship, sent me to try and secure your services to have you come and rid us of these three witches."
Thus spoke the stranger to the hunter. The hunter gazed long and thoughtfully into the dying embers of the campfire. Then slowly his eyes raised and looked lovingly on his wife who sat opposite to him. Gazing on her beautiful features for a full minute he slowly dropped his gaze back to the dying embers and thus answered his visitor:
"My friend, I feel very much honored by your chief having sent such a great distance for me, and also for the kind offer of his lovely daughter in marriage, if I should succeed, but I must reject the great offer, as I can spare none of my affections to any other woman than to my queen whom you see sitting there."
White Plume had been listening to the conversation and when his father had finished speaking, said: "Father, I am a child no more. I have arrived at manhood. I am not so good a marksman as you, but I will go to this suffering tribe and try to rid them of their three enemies. If this man will rest for a few days and return to his village and inform them of my coming, I will travel along slowly on his trail and arrive at the village a day or two after he reaches there."
"Very well, my son," said the father, "I am sure you will succeed, as you fear nothing, and as to your marksmanship, it is far superior to mine, as your sight is much clearer and aim quicker than mine."
The man rested a few days and one morning started off, after having instructed White Plume as to the trail. White Plume got together what he would need on the trip and was ready for an early start the next morning. That night, Dead Shot and his wife sat up away into the night instructing their son how to travel and warning him as to the different kinds of people he must avoid in order to keep out of trouble. "Above all," said the father, "keep a good look out for Unktomi (spider); he is the most tricky of all, and will get you into trouble if you associate with him."
White Plume left early, his father accompanying him for several miles. On parting, the father's last words were: "Look out for Unktomi, my son, he is deceitful and treacherous."
"I'll look out for him, father;" so saying, he disappeared over a hill.
On the way he tried his skill on several hawks and eagles, and he did not need to use his painted arrows to kill them, but so skillful was he with the bow and arrows that he could bring down anything that flew with his common arrows. He was drawing near to the end of his destination when he had a large tract of timber to pass through. When he had nearly gotten through the timber, he saw an old man sitting on a log, looking wistfully up into a big tree, where sat a number of prairie chickens.
"Hello, grandfather, why are you sitting there looking so downhearted?" asked White Plume. "I am nearly starved and was just wishing someone would shoot one of those chickens for me, so I could make a good meal on it," said the old man. "I will shoot one for you," said the young man. He strung his bow, placed an arrow on the string, simply seemed to raise the arrow in the direction of the chicken (taking no aim). Twang went out the bow, zip went the arrow, and a chicken fell off the limb, only to get caught on another in its descent.
"There is your chicken, grandfather."
"Oh, my grandson, I am too weak to climb up and get it. Can't you climb up and get it for me?"
The young man, pitying the old fellow, proceeded to climb the tree, when the old man stopped him, saying: "Grandson, you have on such fine clothes, it is a pity to spoil them; you had better take them off so as not to spoil the fine porcupine work on them."
The young man took off his fine clothes and climbed up into the tree, and securing the chicken, threw it down to the old man. As the young man was scaling down the tree, the old man said: "Iyashkapa, iyashkapa," (stick fast, stick fast). Hearing him say something, he asked, "What did you say, old man?" He answered, "I was only talking to myself."
The young man proceeded to descend, but he could not move. His body was stuck fast to the bark of the tree. In vain did he beg the old man to release him. The old Unktomi, for he it was, only laughed and said: "I will go now and kill the evil spirits, I have your wonderful bow and arrows and I cannot miss them. I will marry the chief's daughter, and you can stay up in that tree and die there."
So saying, he put on White Plume's fine clothes, took his bow and arrows, and went to the village. As White Plume was expected at any minute, the whole village was watching for him, and when Unktomi came into sight the young men ran to him with a painted robe, sat him down on it and slowly raising him up they carried him to the tent of the chief. So certain were they that he would kill the evil spirits that the chief told him to choose one of the daughters at once for his wife. (Before the arrival of White Plume, hearing of him being so handsome, the two girls had quarreled over which should marry him, but upon seeing him the younger was not anxious to become his wife.) So Unktomi chose the older one of the sisters and was given a large tent in which to live.
The younger sister went to her mother's tent to live, and the older was very proud, as she was married to the man who would save the nation from starvation. The next morning, there was a great commotion in camp, and there came the cry that the white buffalo was coming. "Get ready, son-in-law, and kill the buffalo," said the chief.
Unktomi took the bow and arrows and shot as the buffalo passed, but the arrow went wide off its mark. Next came the eagle, and again he shot and missed. Then came the rabbit, and again he missed.
"Wait until tomorrow, I will kill them all. My blanket caught in my bow and spoiled my aim."
The people were very much disappointed, and the chief, suspecting that all was not right, sent for the young man who had visited Dead Shot's tepee. When the young man arrived, the chief asked: "Did you see White Plume when you went to Dead Shot's camp?"
"Yes, I did, and ate with him many times. I stayed at his father's tepee all the time I was there," said the young man.
"Would you recognize him if you saw him again?" asked the chief.
"Anyone who had but one glimpse of White Plume would surely recognize him when he saw him again, as he is the most handsome man I ever saw," said the young man.
"Come with me to the tent of my son-in-law and take a good look at him, but don't say what you think until we come away."
The two went to the tent of Unktomi, and when the young man saw him, he knew it was not White Plume, although it was White Plume's bow and arrows that hung at the head of the bed, and he also recognized the clothes as belonging to White Plume. When they had returned to the chief's tent, the young man told what he knew and what he thought.
"I think this is some Unktomi who has played some trick on White Plume and has taken his bow and arrows and also his clothes, and hearing of your offer, is here impersonating White Plume. Had White Plume drawn the bow on the buffalo, eagle, and rabbit today, we would have been rid of them, so I think we had better scare this Unktomi into telling us where White Plume is," said the young man.
"Wait until he tries to kill the witches again tomorrow," said the chief.
In the meantime, the younger daughter had taken an axe and gone into the woods in search of dry wood. She went quite a little distance into the wood and was chopping a dry log. Stopping to rest a little she heard someone saying: "Whoever you are, come over here and chop this tree down so that I may get loose."
Going to where the big tree stood, she saw a man stuck onto the side of the tree. "If I chop it down the fall will kill you," said the girl. "No, chop it on the opposite side from me, and the tree will fall that way. If the fall kills me, it will be better than hanging up here and starving to death," said White Plume, for it was he.
The girl chopped the tree down and when she saw that it had not killed the man, she said: "What shall I do now?"
"Loosen the bark from the tree and then get some stones and heat them. Get some water and sage and put your blanket over me." She did as told and when the steam arose from the water being poured upon the heated rocks, the bark loosened from his body and he arose. When he stood up, she saw how handsome he was.
"You have saved my life," said he. "Will you be my wife?"
"I will," said she.
He then told her how the old man had fooled him into this trap and took his bow and arrows, also his fine porcupine worked clothes, and had gone off, leaving him to die. She, in turn, told him all that had happened in camp since a man, calling himself White Plume, came there and married her sister before he shot at the witches, and when he came to shoot at them, missed every shot. "Let us make haste, as the bad Unktomi may ruin my arrows."
They approached the camp and whilst White Plume waited outside, his promised wife entered Unktomi's tent and said: "Unktomi, White Plume is standing outside, and he wants his clothes and bow and arrows."
"Oh, yes, I borrowed them and forgot to return them; make haste and give them to him."
Upon receiving his clothes, he was very much provoked to find his fine clothes wrinkled and his bow twisted, while the arrows were twisted out of shape. He laid the clothes down, also the bows and arrows, and passing his hand over them, they assumed their right shapes again.
The daughter took White Plume to her father's tent and, upon hearing the story, he at once sent for his warriors and had them form a circle around Unktomi's tent, and if he attempted to escape to catch him and tie him to a tree, as he (the chief) had determined to settle accounts with him for his treatment of White Plume, and the deception employed in winning the chief's eldest daughter.
About midnight, the guard noticed something crawling along close to the ground and seizing him found it was Unktomi trying to make his escape before daylight, whereupon they tied him to a tree. "Why do you treat me thus," cried Unktomi, "I was just going out in search of medicine to rub on my arrows, so I can kill the witches." "You will need medicine to rub on yourself when the chief gets through with you," said the young man who had discovered that Unktomi was impersonating White Plume.
In the morning, the herald announced that the real White Plume had arrived, and the chief desired the whole nation to witness his marksmanship. Then came the cry: "The White Buffalo comes." Taking his red arrow, White Plume stood ready. When the buffalo got about opposite him, he let his arrow fly. The buffalo bounded high in the air and came down with all four feet drawn together under its body, the red arrow having passed clear through the animal, piercing the buffalo's heart. A loud cheer went up from the village.
"You shall use the hide for your bed," said the chief to White Plume.
Next came a cry, "The eagle, the eagle." From the north came an enormous red eagle. So strong was he, that as he soared through the air his wings made a humming sound as the rumble of distant thunder. On he came, and just as he circled the tent of the chief, White Plume bent his bow, with all his strength drew the arrow back to the flint point and sent the blue arrow on its mission of death. So swiftly had the arrow passed through the eagle's body that, thinking White Plume had missed, a great wail went up from the crowd, but when they saw the eagle stop in his flight, give a few flaps of his wings, and then fall with a heavy thud into the center of the village, there was a greater cheer than before.
"The red eagle shall be used to decorate the seat of honor in your tepee," said the chief to White Plume.
Last came the white rabbit. "Aim good, aim good, son-in-law," said the chief. "If you kill him, you will have his skin for a rug." Along came the white rabbit, and White Plume sent his arrow in search of rabbit's heart, which it found, and stopped Mr. Rabbit's tricks forever.
The chief then called all of the people together and before them all took a hundred willows and broke them one at a time over Unktomi's back. Then he turned him loose. Unktomi, being so ashamed, ran off into the woods and hid in the deepest and darkest corner he could find. This is why Unktomis (spiders) are always found in dark corners, and anyone who is deceitful or untruthful is called a descendant of the Unktomi tribe.

Disturbing people say 30 is old… so a person’s window of attractibility based on age and being legal is only 12 years when people are now living to be 90?
30 is NOT OLD The pure misogyny attached to this is disgusting. A woman isn’t seen as old and is seen as most beautiful, but is also legally able to consent, for only a couple years over a decade… Even in countries where it’s 13, she still has 17, less than two decades, to be considered “viable” as a “young beautiful” woman. Disgusting.
Queen Elizabeth II died at 96. That woman lived 66 years of her life “old”??? Seriously?? At 30, your brain has only been fully developed for 4-5 years.
How the hell is 30 old when people are living to be 90??? Change your perspective. Do YOU want to be “old” for 60+ years of your precious life??
Shut up teenagers, predators, and 20 somethings with your nonsense about age.
60 can be considered old… and even then, that could be 30-40 years more of being “old”! We live in a new age of medicine and technology where we live longer and shouldn’t find under 30 to be the most desirable anymore. It’s predatory and disgusting in my view.

Himeno Ran
Queen of "Ishabana", the country of art and medicine. She looks beautiful, but she has a selfish personality. On the other hand, she has no hesitation in saving someone, and she also has a side as a doctor who brilliantly saves lives.
"Just be yourself and go your own way!"
She transforms into Kamakiri Ohger with King Armor and fights with God Mantis! It fights in a "wagamama style" that doesn't care about its surroundings, and uses its King's Weapon Scythe Mode to perform spinning slashes that make the enemy "kirikiri dance"!

Favorite History Books || The Royal Art of Poison: Filthy Palaces, Fatal Cosmetics, Deadly Medicine, and Murder Most Foul by Eleanor Herman ★★★☆☆
For centuries, almost every death of a relatively young royal was rumored to have been caused by poison. But was it poison? Or had they all died of natural causes? I decided to return to this absorbing topic, which so adeptly combines my love of forensic crime shows with my passion for the past. I soon found myself up to my elbows in the grisly, the astonishing, the tragic, and the hilarious. I learned how to perform a sixteenth-century autopsy and embalming—not something for the faint of heart. Wide-eyed, I read Renaissance beauty recipe books whose ingredients included mercury, arsenic, lead, feces, urine, and human fat. I dove into modern scientific papers on the exhumations of royal bodies found to be riddled with a variety of toxic materials. And I discovered the elaborate—and to us comical—poison-prevention protocols at royal courts. As I delved into this world, I learned that palaces were bursting with many kinds of poison, not all of them deadly doses of arsenic intended to kill. Gazing at the gorgeous portraits of centuries past, we don’t see what lies beneath the royal robes flashing with diamonds: the stench of unwashed bodies; the lice feasting on scalps, armpits, and private parts; the lethal bacteria from contaminated water and poorly prepared food; and the excruciating cancers eating away at vital organs. We can’t smell the nauseating odors of overflowing chamber pots or the urine-soaked staircases where courtiers routinely relieved themselves. We don’t glimpse the barbaric medical treatments more dangerous than the original illness itself, or elixirs designed to beautify that sometimes killed. To bring you into this world of sublime beauty and wretched filth, I first investigate the palace poison culture of prevention, protocols, and antidotes, followed by chapters on deadly cosmetics, fatal physicians, and the royals’ perilously unhealthy living conditions. I then examine twenty cases of royal personages rumored to have been poisoned, from the renowned, such as Napoleon and Mozart, to the obscure, such as a fourteenth-century Italian warlord and a sixteenth-century queen of Navarre, household names in their own time but mostly forgotten in ours. … What I have found is that people living in terror of poison were, in fact, poisoning themselves every day of their lives, through their medicine, cosmetics, and living conditions. At Europe’s dazzling royal courts, beneath a façade of bejeweled beauty, there festered illness, ignorance, filth, and—sometimes—murder. Nor is poisoning of one’s political rivals hermetically sealed in the past. As my final chapter will show, in some countries political assassination by poison is as alive and well as ever it was in the sinister royal courts of the Renaissance.

A Non-Comprehensive Look at Sina
Sina is a coastal country with a number of outlying islands. Lift-ways ("east") is the Melinun Sea, the reason for its prosperity as a bastion of trade. Drop-ways ("west") is Breme across the Rimuk Mountains. This impenetrable mountain range has been a source of frustration for the Sinan Royal Family since the two countries were split in two by High Poetry.
Sinan Geography
Sinan geography is wildly different from that of Breme. Instead of sweeping steppes, Sina is swampy, mostly flat, and very rainy. Breme is in the rain shadow of the Rimuk Mountains, while Sina is on the windward slope.
One can think of Sina as the first stair in a staircase. The Rimuks are the rise on one side, and the cliffs on the edge of the continent are the foot. Rain cascades down the Rimuks and percolates throughout the country down to the sea. Below the rich muddy soil is granite, meaning that little water penetrates below the surface.
Sina's borders are clear on the mainland: the Rimuk Mountains and the edge of the continent. Its capital city, Kulniryi, is located along the middle of its coastline; the deep, natural harbor is one of the only places where the ground dips down to sea level, making it a perfect fit for commerce.
Around the harbor, the cliffs rise again; most are not of interest but for Thieves' Quarter, where ruffians have carved their homes directly into the rock for better protection for their illicit activities. Some whisper that these carved homes have secret passages that thread all along the underside of the city, popping up in unexpected places to ease the work of ne'er-do-wells.
The Melinun Sea is dotted with additional islands, some large and some small. The largest and most isolated of these are penal colonies, where the worst prisoners are sent to dog-infested islands to be eaten alive. Other small clusters may be farms, military outposts, lighthouse stations, or pleasure oases.
Sina has several territorial disputes with its neighbors on some of the farthest-reaching islands, a constant source of consternation for the queen. She resolved the disputes with their closest neighbor, Iunis, by marrying one of her daughters to their king.
As one moves drop-ways, a lacey network of small rivers provides fertile ground all across the country, though some areas are too swampy and fetid for habitation. Of particular intrigue is the area around Heretic's Way, whose rich soil has lay abandoned for centuries. This was the path that the traitorous Princess Yiella took out of Sina when she joined with the proto-Bremish against her mother, who was attempting to subjugate the nomadic tribes.
Most of the major cities are named after previous rulers; they are designed around the landscape, giving each a sense of place and a unique flair. For example, Traifalnar is built on a swamp, with deep foundations buried in the rock and homes bolstered by an interesting network of steel wires that keep them upright.
Kayaks are a common mode of transportation because they are lightweight and maneuverable, though there are also excellent trails for bicycles.
Threaded throughout the country are tin mines, some abandoned and others still active. Spies, smugglers, and the general criminal rabble use these to pass from town to town. While the Sinans are not generally superstitious, most fear these mines, as they whisper that kidnappers use them to sell women and children - or simply murder them.
Sinan Fauna
Briar bear - Haunts the swamps and briars of the country. A large, mottled, streaky-looking animal with enormous claws. Terrifying.
Velvet deer - So named for their beautiful antlers that never lose their velvet, but remain fuzzy and soft all year round. The velvet was previously used as folk medicine. Much has been written about how velvet deer's antlers sparkle after a rainstorm.
Rimuk wildcats - As in Breme, Rimuk wildcats haunt the highest reaches of the mountains. Their screams are bone-chilling when they resound off the rocks.
Esker - A type of aquatic mustelid that swims through the many channels, eating fish. Supposedly tastes delicious.
Alnan rabbits - Large, loping rabbits, technically an invasive species. They are named after the country's founder, Queen Alnan, who brought them from her home country. Some were released and became feral; now they practically overrun the country.
Herons - Found all across the country along rivers.
Rock eagles - Typically found along the Rimuk Mountains, but they have also been known to make their eyries in tall buildings, including the Kulniryi palace where the Sinan Royal Family lives.
Black squirrels - They have excellent camoflage for the deep, shady forests.
Blue spotted lizard - Bright blue, poisonous lizard found in the swamps.
Peeping frogs - There are dozens of different subspecies of peeping frogs throughout the country. They each have a slightly different song, which means that you can tell what part of the country you are in based on the melody of the frogs. This has given Sina several nicknames amongst other countries, not all of which are very nice. One is "The Land of Natural Music," while another is "Croakland."
Lacy turtles - So named for the light, lacey patterns along the shells.
Koi - The most common fish in the country. Good eating.
Suluk sea lions - Important to Sinan mythology, as it is said that a miraculous Suluk sea lion protected their founder after a shipwreck.
Whelkies - A type of mollusk.
Silver crabs - Not actually made of silver, of course, but their light gray shells are very striking. Good camoflage against the gray cliffs that make up the edge of the continent.
Blue dolpins - Often found cavorting and playing in the waves along the shore.
Harbor whales - Small whales that prefer protected inlets and bays.
Mules - Stubborn and hardy, they are great for long-distance trips.
Goats - Used for their meat and milk.
Timber horses - Large draft horses used to drag away timber.
Sprig horses - Light-boned animals that are mostly for sport and casual riding. Only owned by the upper classes.
Sinan Flora
Cedar
Pine
Black spruce
Boxwood
Ficus

Important Personages in Sina
While Sina has had numerous rulers, only a few are remembered well (or are currently important).
Queen Alnan - The founder of the country. Sailed away from her home country of Nuntak, a down-ways ("south") island country, to oppose religious rule. Subjugated and drove out the nomadic tribes already present, who became the Bremish.
Princess Yiella - Also known as "Heretic Yiella," she was Queen Alnan's daughter. She grew sympathetic to the plight of the tribes and joined them on their escape from Queen Alnan's rule.
Queen Kulni - Queen Alnan's second daughter, who was named queen after her mother's death instead of Princess Yiella. While Queen Alnan founded the country, Queen Kulni was responsible for most of the current infrastructure and political system.
Queen Susuma - The Queen of Sina when The Eirenic Verses begins. She is renowned for having developed solar power, one of the most important inventions in the history of the country (if not the world).
Princess Haniya - Queen Alnan's daughter and one of the main characters of The Eirenic Verses. Bratty and petulant, she cares little for being royalty.
Prince Daiski - Queen Susuma's son and Princess Haniya's half-brother. The result of an affair between Queen Susuma and a duke from a foreign country. Once murdered a scullery maid with his bare hands.
The Main Celebrations of Sina
The coronation days of all the queens are celebrated, though they may be more locally focused, usually most strongly celebrated in the towns named after them.
New Years - Unlike Breme, which has a calendar based on lunar movements, Sina has a set calendar codified by one of the previous rulers. This day is celebrated with lanterns, food, wine, and gambling.
Jubilee Day - Held shortly after New Years. After 10 years, a peasant may have their debts forgiven. Traditionally, people would meet to settle other business matters as well, or to reconcile with past enemies and friends. If any municipalities have deficits, the queen may visit and ceremonially forgive the debt.
Festival of Hydrangeas - Celebrated in mid-spring, when the hydrangeas begin to flower, and usually lasts about a week. Hydrangeas are beloved by the Sinan people thanks to their multicolored blooms. A tradition of hydrangea fortune-telling has sprung up around the country; it's believed that the intensity of the color, the exact bunchings, and the overall health of the flower can tell you things about your future. Hydrangea candies and teas are popular snacks.
Titheday - Essentially tax day, when people give their tithes to the queen or to the local authorities. It has come to be a celebration of sorts because people gather together to have their tithes counted, spurring spontaneous celebrations (probably to ease the stress of giving away their money).
The Miracle of Isthmus - One of the few "supernaturally" themed holidays, celebrating when Queen Alnan was saved from a shipwreck by the Suluk sea lion. People put on pageants throughout the country celebrating this feat, and "Sea Lion Dances" will wind through the streets of the larger cities.
Landing Day - Around the summer solstice. Celebrates when Queen Susuma landed on the continent. One of the best parts of this festival is kayak jousting, when hardy competitors will attempt to push one another off their boat using their oars.
Victors' Day - The time when soldiers join the army. They may join without compulsion or be pressed into service to pay off debts. Regardless of the reason, there are a few weeks of flurried recruitment before Victors' Day, when they are formally invited into the service. Military parades, speeches, and tearful goodbyes occur all across the country.
Rockfall Day - Celebrates one of the greatest victories of the Sinan army, when they crushed several Bremish cities with avalanches. It's common to drop paper-mache rocks filled with candies from high places, such as cliffs or tall buildings.
Darknight - Lunar eclipses are considered to be very unlucky. To counteract this, people will bank their fires high and stay up all night singing, banging pots, and drinking strong caffeinated beverages. It's assumed that you'll give your employees the next day off work unless they are essential workers, like guards or doctors.
Lullweek - Sina doesn't have many private schools or universities, but those that do exist operate all year round; however, there are a number of trade schools that operate on the same schedule. There is approximately two weeks between graduation of one class and entrance of the next class. During this fortnight, it's expected that students will get up to mischief and the townspeople will endure it.
Ice Festival - Sina does not really get all that cold in most of the areas away from the mountains, but they still celebrate the coldest, darkest time of the year. Extravagant presents, hot drinks, huge bonfires, and presentations by "ice dancers" dressed in scanty, filmy white tunics, shown as a sign of bravery.

Just something I decided to write. Leave a comment and let me know what you think —————————
1350. Emma was all alone. Her village had been wiped out by the Black Death. The healthy fled with what they could take with them, leaving the sick and dying behind. She was one of them. Her family fled into the country. The plague doctors did what they could for her, which wasn’t much. All she could do was lay there dying, as the disease spread throughout her body. It was a punishment from God for their sins. But, she was a good Christian girl.
She obeyed her parents, prayed, and went to church regularly. Now, she was alone. Until a woman visited her bedside. She was beautiful, like an angel! The woman touched her buboes, healing them. As she did, her symptoms also disappeared. She then granted her eternal life, meaning she would remain eighteen years old forever. The woman gave her instructions. Leave the village.
Lest she is burned as a witch. The woman then disappeared into the sunlight. Emma got up and walked outside. The village was empty. The shops had been abandoned. She continued walking, following the woman’s advice. If anyone found out she survived, she would be burned at the stake or hung for being a witch. She found the countryside where everyone had made their homes. Before they could see her, she ran in the opposite direction until she was no longer in sight.
She came across a house that had been abandoned in quite a hurry. The food was still on the table and the door was open. She let herself in and looked around. Nobody. Not even in the beds. She sat down at the table and started eating the still-fresh food. Her stomach was begging for food. Once she was finished, she cleaned up her mess. She then fed the animals with food she found in the barn.
The house would keep her safe while she waited for the plague to pass. She stayed in that house, tending to the chores and feeding the animals until 1400 when she returned to the city. London was different from what she remembered. She immediately got new clothes that fit the latest fashion because she stood out like a sore thumb. Her family and everyone she knew had died, so she was safe from being recognized. At sixty-eight years old, she too should be dead.
But she couldn’t die. She was forced to live eternally. After finding her old house still abandoned, she moved in. It was just as she had left it fifty years before. She did the chores and went to the market to buy food. After bringing them back, she put her purchases away. London had a new king. King Henry the Fourth. He was born in 1367. She knew nothing about the king or his politics.
For ten years, she remained in London. Until she was forced to move. She couldn’t remain eighteen years old forever. People would become suspicious. For years, she was forced to go back and forth between the abandoned house and London. Being immortal was not easy. She couldn’t tell anyone her secret. At the same time, she saw the world changing. There were new technologies and countries to be discovered. In 1590, she saw a play by the writer, William Shakespeare.
She was able to meet the great Queen Elizabeth and kiss her hand. There was art and music and dancing and literature! London was alive! There was philosophy and medicine and advancements! When the Queen came through the city, people stopped what they were doing and bowed to her. She was beautiful with long red hair. But it wasn’t to last.
The great Queen died in 1603 without being married or leaving an heir. William Shakespeare died in 1616, leaving only his writings. In 1620, she boarded a ship going from England to the new world, The Mayflower. After twenty weeks at sea, they arrived in the new world. The new world was strange. She stayed with a puritan family and did what she was told. It was household responsibilities and training to be a housewife. She lied and gave her age as fifteen years old.
What was her name? Sarah Black. Her birthday was the seventh of January, 1615. They wanted to marry her off, so she fled in the middle of the night with only what she could carry. She ran away from the village until she could no longer see it. Then, she hid from the natives. When sunlight came, she continued walking around the strange landscape. She didn’t know where she was.
All she knew was that she had to keep walking. She was two hundred eighty-eight years old. But, she couldn’t be Emma Taylor anymore. She had to be Sarah Black. And, she had to continue walking. She wondered if her family was looking for her in heaven. Did they know what happened to her? Why her? After two hundred seventy years, she still didn’t have an answer to that. When she found shelter near a stream of water, she made it her home.
She used the water to wash and drink. For over a hundred years, she stayed in that hideout. From 1692-1693, accused witches were arrested and hanged in Salem, Massachusetts. She happened to be in Salem during the trials. As such, she did her best not to stick out.
Upon finding paper and a pen, she wrote in old English: name is emma taylor. I was born 'i london towards the seventh of january, 1332. Mine issue thinks i’m dead. She signed her name at the bottom before folding up the paper and putting it into her pocket. Hearing noises outside, she realized they were rounding up the accused witches to be hanged on Gallows Hill. There was terrible screaming from the victims. I’m innocent! God in heaven, save me!
But it was too late for them. Nobody could save them. In 1775, she found herself caught up in the chaos of the American revolution. British and American soldiers marched and fought their way across the original thirteen colonies. It all ended in 1783 with the British surrender. America was born, as the colonists celebrated their independence.
The newly elected government worked hard to form a new country. They elected General George Washington as their very first president. On August second, 1776, the continental congress officially signed the Declaration of Independence. After buying a journal, ink, and a pen, she started writing her life experiences while sitting in her rented apartment. She had kept the piece of paper from years before with her.
She kept the journal with her as she continued traveling through the new country. With every memory, she wrote about it. On April second, 1861, the country entered into a civil war. Once again, she was caught in the middle. The country was divided. Brother against father against uncle. All on the issue of slavery. The war lasted four long years before finally ending in 1865.
The country was working on repairing itself once again when President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. There was a great outcry in the streets. The president’s been shot! The doctor did everything he could to save him but he died eight hours later. The country on both sides mourned him. She was among those who stood in line to say goodbye and express her condolences to his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln. The great president was dead.
To be continued……

BACKGROUND / BIO
triggering / sensitive content: medical tw, hospital tw, cancer tw, oncology tw
southern charm at its finest, ramsey was raised in the deep south, surrounded by sweet tea, the thickest southern accents you could imagine, and a town where everybody knew everyone. growing up he was raised by his grandparents on his maternal side, his mother having taken off and never returning when he was just two years old. never knew who his father was as his mother never gave away who had gotten her pregnant all those years ago. his grandfather was a pharmacist, grandmother a teacher, so from a young age he grew to have a love of helping people. ramsey grew up as the quintessential southern boy, apart of all the local sports before settling on the high school baseball team, dating the head cheerleader, earning them both the title of prom king and queen. they split when they headed off in different directions for college, ramsey landing himself at the local university, not wanting to be far away from his grandparents. originally the plan had been for ramsey to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps, study pharmacology and take up the small pharmacy that was in the salazar name. as he worked his way through school he became fascinated in medicine, but not in the way they expected. the more classes he took, the further in that he wanted to become a doctor. with expectations that he would go to medical school, he made the promise to make it and be able to hire someone to keep the small family pharmacy running so that his grandfather could retire.
years of studying, long hours worked, multiple residencies, finally landed ramsey as one of the states up and coming surgical oncologist specialist, primarily children. after securing the safety of his grandparents local pharmacy, settling them in beautiful assisted living center, ramsey took a prestige job opening at one of the largest children’s hospital in the country, arkansas children’s hospital. he was well on his way to running the whole department at the pace his was going, or at least that was what everyone said. he had the charm that was needed in such a delicate situation, but after only a few years did he feel the weight of his career start to pull him down. going so far as to start seeking therapy for himself based on what he saw day in and day out before one day he decided he couldn’t do it any longer. after long coordination with the staff, ramsey started looking for work in other places, finally finding a position in the local hospital here in town. while it’s nowhere near the salary he was paid before, he now finds his spirits lifted focused on general pediatric surgery. of course, being such a small town, it often means he needs to step in for general surgeries, but working with the little ones, seeing them smile makes his day the best.
