"soldier, poet, king" + POV of team 7 from someone in the far future, maybe through the lens of a distant descendant build off surviving myths and historical texts
Dear anon, I hope you don’t mind, but I took a gentle step sideways and backwards with this prompt. In my search for all of the royalty!AU posts, I refreshed my memory about Foundation of Yesterday in which DoS/the Elemental Nations is the extremely distant past of FFVII. Coupled with the SOLDIERs of FFVII and my assigning of which member of Team Seven corresponds to which character of FFVII, I think it all combines well with your prompt. Additionally, I couldn’t tell which members of Team Seven I would assign soldier, poet, and king. But it was easy for me to assign solider, poet, and king to their FFVII descendants and then reverse engineer from there. So we get Cloud, obvious Soldier, descendant of blue-eyed blonde, storm and strife. Yuffie as King, inheriting a pendant that summons a sleeping goddess in times of need. And Vincent is less obvious as Poet, but you can probably get into a sort of meditative philosophizing of working for tyrants and falling in love with a scientist only for her to betray you and then going into hibernation and maybe meeting your distant ancestor who is Chaos? Unfortunately, I don’t actually know that much about FFVII—as I’ve never played it, nor the remake—except for what I’ve gleaned from fanfiction and cultural osmosis, lol. And then this does get into the problem, similar to the Fear to Tread (a world unseen) post in that the primary setting/POV of the fic WOULD be the world/characters that I am less accustomed to writing and then making up the history of the world between the events of DoS and FFVII. So I’m going to continue with my gentle sideways and backwards steps and give you this, instead:
~
(king)
When Yuffie finally activates the strange summon materia she inherited from her father, everything goes dark. At first she panics—maybe something went wrong? did she not have enough mana? was she cursed with blindness?—but then little pin pricks of light appear, like distant stars coming ever closer.
She doesn’t see what the summon does exactly, the battle ends so quickly after that, but that doesn’t matter too much considering the summon just… doesn’t leave.
The Shikabane-hime—once the tendrils of star-filled shadows have done their damage and tucked themselves away out of existence—looks human. Like one of Yuffie’s people, a girl far from home, displaced from Wutai, just like her.
But as the other members of the party shift and stare, uncertain as to what it happening, she remembers who exactly she’s looking at. What she is looking at, that is: a summon, inherited from her father, who only showed up now after her homeland has been ruined by ShinRa.
Later, when they have made camp for the night, when the Shikabane-hime has still not disappeared, even though Yuffie’s original mana offering should have long run out, she confronts the summon.
“Where were you?” Yuffie asks in Wutaian so the others can’t understand her. She tries to make it accusatory, tries to sound authoritative, like a proper Princess of Wutai, but she’s afraid it comes out more hurt, plaintive, like a child who realizes that legends are nothing more than stories, than lies. Like the legend that the Shikabane-hime would come in Wutai’s time of need.
The Shikabane-hime tilts its head, gaze sharp but not unkind. Yuffie thinks for a moment, perhaps it can’t understand her, what language do summons speak? Please not Midgarish.
But then the Shikabane-hime answers, “Your father never called for me.” Its gaze, somehow, becoming sharper but also more kind. Concerned, maybe. “Perhaps he did not believe. Perhaps it was not enough of a threat.”
“Not enough of a threat?” Yuffie shouts.
The rest of the party turn their way, hands on their weapons, except for Vincent whose attention had been on the Shikabane-hime the whole time. He waves them off and the others, with reluctance, stand down.
“What do you mean not enough of a threat? ShinRa invaded our homeland. It is a shell of itself! My father—” she cuts herself off before she can say anything else. Before she can realize what else in her childhood is a story, a lie.
“In the future, you will reclaim it, rebuild it,” the Shikabane-hime says, too casual for a command, too simple for a prophecy. “But first, we must ensure there is a future.”
(poet)
When Shikako meets the almost familiar red eyes of Vincent Valentine, she does not say the following:
Is he doing okay in there? How did he manage to survive so long? If you could let him know I’m sorry, I miss him. Tell him thank you from me for holding on so long. Too long. Tell him he can let go, that he doesn’t have to stay if it hurts. If he needs to move on, it’s okay. I’ll meet him there when I’m done. And I’ll bring Naruto with me. You can rest now, Sasuke, I’m here now. I’ll see you soon.
When Vincent looks at the Shikabane-hime—
(Kako, Yuffie introduces it as, trying to play it off as just a late coming fellow Wutaian. If the other members of the party make the connection between the godly manifestation of starlit shadows and the normal looking woman following them blandly, they aren’t making a fuss about it, so neither will Vincent.)
—the Chaos inside of him settles into peace.
(soldier)
“You resemble your ancestor quite a bit,” Kako says to Cloud during a quiet stretch of their travels. It is the first thing she says to him.
Cloud nods, because what else can he do in response to that—
(Of course nobody believes that Kako is just a normal Wutaian woman, but they’re up against the biggest superpower in the world and also an ancient evil and also an undying Sephiroth while the Planet riots in its attempt to save itself, like a fever willing to burn everything up to stave off the infection.
They’ll take any help they can get, imposter or no. And it’s not as if he has room to talk about that anyway.)
—but he does notice that her eyes are closed as she says this, implying her remark isn’t about a visual resemblance but something else, something deeper.
“He was named after a storm,” she says, and for once her tone changes, the apathy gently flavored with fondness, “but he was truly more like the sun.” Her expression, too, shifts: a small, sad smile gracing her face.
And because Cloud knows what it’s like to lose someone you admired—in both ways, the aching grief of losing an admired person, and the sharp lance of a hero no longer being admirable—he asks her, stumbling “Were you—did you know them well?”
Her eyes open at this, an assessing glance sent his way. Her smile melts away, as if it had never been.
“Yes,” she says, tone flattened once more. “He was a good man and the Planet turned him into a WEAPON.”
Cloud startles. He looks to Aerith as he does whenever Planet and Cetra stuff are brought up, but he finds her face turned away, as if guilty, not wanting to meet his or Kako’s eyes.
“But no need to worry,” Kako says, voice not so much reassuring as it is grimly determined. “I will ensure you do not follow his path too closely.”

KH1-KH2 parallels to FF7 (Pt.3)
If you haven't looked at the first two parts please check them out
Riku + Ansem SoD + Sora parallels to Cloud + Sephiroth + Tifa (feat. small Kairi and Aerith parallel)
KH2 and Advent Children Parallels
So If you haven't gathered already from reading the first post, Tetsuya Nomura was working on Advent Children at the same time of the CoM and KH2 production. And by now if you haven't already saw the parallels in KH1 and CoM, Nomura basically all but shows you that Riku parallels Cloud, Sora parallels Tifa, and Ansem SoD parallels Sephiroth by this game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here we have a very obvious in your face parallel of Sora looking for Riku and Tifa looking for Cloud. If you haven't already seen the Sora and Tifa parallels, then...
Interesting thing to note is that Advent Children only came out a couple months in Japanese theaters before the release date of KH2. Nomura choosing the Advent Children outfits for specifically Cloud and Tifa (and Yuffie) while leaving Aerith and Sephiroth unique outfits was definitely a choice. Whether it's a matter of wanting to promote Advent Children for $$ or wanting people to looking into Advent Children because the parallels are interwoven into the KH writing (we can only speculate).
Tumblr media
This one is more of a visual parallel with how Cloud and Riku look away. But also Aerith asks Cloud "you mean you don't want me there when you go away again?" and Cloud replies with "I just--- Listen even if I go far away, I'll come back". Aerith asks "Do you mean it?"
Cloud is unsure of whether he will come back or not which parallels Riku who was originally just going to leave once he was sure Sora and Kairi were safe.
Another note is how Aerith's KH2 outfit is something unique and incorporates white in her pink color palette which makes me wonder...
Tumblr media
If you haven't gathered already that Sora was looking everywhere for Riku then idk...
Tumblr media
When you look into the actual Advent Children movie, you'll start to see similar dialogue to KH2. In Advent Children, Cloud has Geostigma (a disease described as "the Sephiroth gene") and he camps out in the abandoned church for a couple weeks in seclusion while trying to find a cure. We see Tifa and Marlene stumbling upon Cloud's stuff. Marlene asks "Is Cloud Sick?" which Tifa replies with "He should have told me" ("Why didn't he say something?" in localization) a couple seconds later she says "I think he wants to fight alone" then pauses "I don't think that he will"
Sora in KH2 when finally reuniting with Riku is like "Why didn't you let me know you were okay?" and Riku replies with "I didn't want to be found... not like this."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lmao funny dialogue but also
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you have not picked up on Riku paralleling Cloud and Ansem SoD paralleling Sephiroth then idk what to tell you...
Tumblr media
Fun visual of driving a vehicle to the boss fight.
Tumblr media
During the Bahamut boss fight, Cloud is being lifted by his team, and as Tifa lifts Cloud, in the Japanese version she says something like "まだんだ" (not over yet!) which got localized to "No giving up"
When Sora helps Riku up he says "まだ 終われないんだ" (it's not over yet) which got localized to "Don't say another word. It's not over, it's just not"
Anyways that's the end of the long post, keep winning Soriku

Vincent Got a Phone
Chapter 2: The Plot Chickens
Summary: Tifa and Yuffie jump to several conclusions, Vincent tries flirting, with mixed results, Cid sustains an injury, and Cloud wants everyone to mind their own business.
THEY’LL GET AROUND TO FUCKING I SWEAR
Chapter 2: The Plot Chickens
“Mr. Valentine, are you ok?”
Vincent receded into his cloak and pressed his back even more tightly against the wall. “Yes.”
“Well then, why are you standing way over there?” Aerith asked. “There’s a chair, right here.”
“Ms. Gainsborough, this is a lady’s bedroom,” he answered indignantly. “I shouldn’t even be in here. I can’t just go over there. What if I were to see indecent…lady things?”
Aerith looked puzzled. “What are indecent lady things?”
“I have no idea, and no intention of finding out. Hence, this is as far as I go.” He drew a line in the air with his gold gauntlet. “Right here.”
“It’s just a hotel room, it’s not really all that private. But if it makes you uncomfortable, I guess we can go somewhere else,” Aerith offered.
“Where?”
“There’s a cute café around the corner. And it’s nice today, so we can sit outside.”
“I hate cute cafes. And being outside,” Vincent said dolefully. “Very well, let’s go there.”
The two had just exited the room, headed for the aforementioned café, when Tifa and Yuffie, who happened to be returning from shopping, came up the walk, from the opposite direction, a few meters behind them.
Tifa blinked. “Was that…Aerith and Mr. Valentine?”
Yuffie made a face. “Were they…coming out of her room?”
Tifa blinked again. “Together?”
Yuffie’s face intensified. “You think they—”
“No! No way!” Tifa interrupted, with a strained laugh. “Absolutely not, are you kidding? He’s…and she’s…not to mention the monster thing! She…she wouldn’t. Would she?”
“You want me to answer that honestly?”
“No!! I mean, seriously. Ha. Ha ha. There’s some reasonable explanation for it, I’m sure. Besides, Aeri’s a grown woman, who can take care of herself. We’ll just trust her judgment, and if she has something to tell us, she will.”
“You’re right,” Yuffie nodded. “We should definitely spy on them.”
“If we drop all our bags off in my room, we can still follow them before they get too far. Go, go, go.”
Fifteen minutes later, behind a cart full of flowers and potted plants, in the market square:
“What are they doing? I can’t see,” Yuffie complained.
“They’re just sitting there,” Tifa said, poking her head out from behind a pot of orchids.
“At a table?”
She rolled her eyes. “No, in a tree. Of course at a table!”
“Is Mr. Valentine asleep?”
“Uh…I can’t tell.”
“Well, did they order anything?”
“How should I know? Why are you so annoying?!”
“If you’d move your huge butt over so I could see too, I wouldn’t have to keep asking you what’s happening!” Yuffie said, giving her a shove.
“My butt is not huge! It’s toned!” Tifa rejoined, shoving her back. “Now, will you please shut up? I’m trying to figure out what they’re saying!”
“We’re all the way across the street, idiot. There’s no way you could hear them from here.”
“Yeah, but if someone would stop talking, so I could concentrate, I might be able to read their lips.”
“You know how to lipread?”
“I mean…how hard can it be?”
“What are you two doing?” said a voice, behind them.
Startled out of their skin, the two leapt up with a yelp, during which process Tifa jostled the orchid pot, causing it to fall with a loud crash. A few passersby glanced over curiously, and the owner of the stand put her hands on her hips and raised her eyebrows.
“Sorry, ma’am,” Cloud said to her. “We’ll pay for that.”
“You should pay for it, you’re the one who scared the shit out of us,” Tifa groused, as she handed over the money. “Why are you sneaking up on people?”
“I was just walking by. You two are the ones hiding behind a flower stand. What are you doing here?”
Yuffie crossed her arms. “Tch. Nothing. Definitely not spying on anyone. What are you doing here?”
Cloud crossed his arms, right back. “Also nothing. Taking a walk. Sometimes I like to…walk.”
“Walk, huh? Sounds pretty suspicious, if you ask me.”
“More suspicious than you two lurking in shrubberies like slapstick thieves?”
“Hey, Cloud, since you’re here, can I ask you something?” Tifa cut in, before the argument could get any stupider.
He sighed. “It’s not about my hair again, is it?”
“No, but I still have questions about that. I wanted to pose a hypothetical and get your opinion. So…say I had a friend, and I found out they were secretly seeing someone who was really not good for them. Like, super bad news, totally incompatible, just the worst for each other. To the point that I was even worried my friend might wind up getting seriously hurt by that person. What should I do?”
Cloud’s face lost half its color. “How did—uh. How do you know. That your friend is seeing a person like that? Maybe they’re just…taking time to do some self-care, or something. People have a right to live their lives without being attached to their friends at the hip, all the time.”
“Huh? No, I mean, if I knew for sure that my friend was seeing someone bad for them. Like, I saw them together, and everything.”
Cloud’s face lost the remaining half of its color. “Y—you saw them together? When? How?”
“It’s just a hypothetical, why are you being so weird?” Yuffie said, narrowing her eyes at him.
“It’s a weirdly specific hypothetical!” Cloud defended. “You know, maybe the real problem is that this group has gotten a little too close. Maybe we should all try minding our own business, for a change.”
Tifa tilted her head to the side. “Um…”
“You asked for my advice, and that’s my advice,” Cloud declared. “We all mind our own business, from now on, and not worry about what everyone else is or isn’t doing, with whatever mysterious, hypothetical, totally not real person. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go mind my own business.”
With that, he strode off down the street, leaving the other two staring after him in perplexity.
“Is there a full moon, or something?” Yuffie asked. “Everyone’s acting nutso.”
“Oh no! Where’d they go!” Tifa exclaimed, as she looked back toward the café, and found Aerith and Vincent were nowhere to be seen. “I can’t believe we lost them. Stupid Cloud and his stupid hair.”
“Well, the good news is, they can’t dodge us forever. I mean, we do know where they live.”
VValentine: mission aborted. circumstances unfavorable.
✿FlowerGal✿: what’s going on? he was supposed to be working on the plane by himself all day
VValentine: he is working on the plane. but he is doing so whilst not fully clothed.
✿FlowerGal✿: ooh not fully clothed how?
VValentine: he is not wearing a shirt. not even an undershirt!
✿FlowerGal✿: omfg get pics!!!!
VValentine: absolutely not.
✿FlowerGal✿: boo you suck
✿FlowerGal✿: seriously though what’s the big deal? men go shirtless all the time. cloud wears nothing but his surf shorts for days sometimes
VValentine: cloud is a child. cid is a grown man. it is not the same thing.
✿FlowerGal✿: bet he’s ripped though right?
VValentine: no idea what that means.
✿FlowerGal✿: it means he’s got muscles
VValentine: oh. then yes he is exceptionally ripped.
VValentine: curses he saw me. now he’s calling me over. taking evasive action.
✿FlowerGal✿: no no! that’d be weird! you have to act natural around him, remember?
✿FlowerGal✿: just talk to him, like you would normally
VValentine: i wouldn’t talk, normally.
✿FlowerGal✿: you can do it! i believe in you!
When Vincent reluctantly approached the aircraft, Cid was up on a step ladder, doing something inside an open panel, full of complicated looking mechanical parts. His skin was glistening with sweat, in the sun, golden-tanned, darker than the patch of curly blonde hair on his chest.
He wasn’t tall, but his torso was compact and well-built, with the hard, sinewy muscles that come from heavy labor and fist fighting, and his square jaw always had a good layer of scruffy stubble. Cid was pretty much everything Vincent had always considered to be the masculine ideal, and which he could never hope to attain, with his naturally long, slender frame, death-white skin, and hereditary inability to grow facial or body hair.
He was even further from that ideal, now, with the hideous scars and disfigured torso. And of course, his much uglier, demonic forms. The thought of his own monstrosity made him want to turn and run away, bury himself in his coffin and attempt to forget he'd ever met this beautiful, vibrant person. But he was already standing in front of him, and there was no escape, now.
“Hey Vinnie,” Cid said affably, mopping his brow with a bandana, which he then replaced in his back pocket. “Didn’t come all the way out here just to see little ol’ me, did ya?”
[Tip 7: Don’t be too obvious. Make it look like you’ve run into him by chance.]
Vincent crossed his arms. “No. I…happened to be passing by.”
Cid squinted. “You happened to be passin’ by the airfield?”
“Yes.”
“Uh. Well, ok. Hey, could ya grab that red toolbox for me? It’s by the wheel, over there.”
Vincent went and retrieved the toolbox, as requested. [Tip 29: Try dropping something near him, so he’ll pick it up for you.] Looking Cid directly in the eye [Tip 2: Remember, eye-contact is key!], he extended his arm and dropped the metal toolbox on the ground, with a loud clatter, between himself and the understandably bewildered Cid.
“If you didn’t wanna do it you coulda just said so,” Cid laughed uneasily, as he hopped down from the ladder to pick it up, eyeing Vincent as if he were a bomb that might suddenly go off.
Vincent’s black eyebrows furrowed. Hm. He must’ve done it wrong. Cid picked up the object, as intended, but he was visibly startled. Unless startling him was the purpose, and he’d misunderstood. He should ask Aerith for clarification, before he proceeded.
“I have something to do. Goodbye,” he said, and walked away, leaving Cid staring after his billowing scarlet cloak, utterly at a loss.
From his perspective, Vincent had appeared suddenly, spoken a few brusque words, thrown his toolbox on the ground, then scowled at him and gone off in a huff.
“Well, shit,” he muttered, as he stuck a cigarette in his mouth. “What’d I do to piss Vinnie off?”
“Aeri-chan!” Tifa called out cheerfully, the next day, around lunch time. “Yuffie and I are going to try out that café in the square. You want to come?”
“Hm?” Aerith said distractedly, as she typed something on her phone, then looked up. “Oh, sorry. I can’t, today. I have plans.”
“What do you mean, plans?” Tifa pretended to pout. “What’s more important than lunch with your besties?”
“Ms. Gainsborough,” said a very deep voice, behind Tifa and Yuffie, giving them both a jolt, yet again (only this time, no innocent flowerpots were bystanding, to become casualties).
“Vincent, there you are,” Aerith said, stepping past her stupefied companions. “I told you, just call me Aerith. Bye Yuff, bye Ti, see you later!”
Just like that, the tall-dark-and-vampire-coded man walked off with their friend.
“Ok, ok, ok, no need to panic,” Tifa said, when the subjects of their investigation were out of earshot.
“Do I look like I’m panicking?” Yuffie retorted.
“They’re already to the point of flaunting their sordid affair, in public, Yuffie! I think a little panicking is warranted!”
Yuffie threw her hands up in exasperation. “You just said there was no need to panic! Are you using drugs? Is this one of the signs of drug abuse?”
“You know what we need?”
“I’m starting to think therapy.”
“We need an ally.”
“Huh?”
“Trying to talk to Aeri about this won’t do any good,” Tifa reasoned. “We both know how stubborn she can be, when she’s set her mind to something.”
“You’re too scared to face her head-on. Got it.”
“But Mr. Valentine might be made to see reason.”
“Ok, well, have fun with that,” Yuffie snorted. “No fucking way am I talking to that psycho about his love life.”
“I didn’t mean us, are you kidding? He’s almost as scary as Aerith! Besides, I doubt he’d listen to a couple of girls. But, if we got another guy on our side, and got him to talk to him…”
“Cloud and Cid are the only other guys we have, since Barrett’s not here.”
“Cid and Mr. Valentine are pretty good friends, right? They’re together basically all the time. I think he’d be the most likely to get through to him.”
“Sure. If he doesn’t just tell us to fuck off and mind our own business.”
“Why would he do that?”
“Because this is none of our business?”
“That's ridiculous, when has that ever stopped us?”
“Literally never.”
“Exactly. Now, let's go enlist a fellow meddler.”
[Tip 46: Cross paths with him, and *accidentally* brush your shoulder gently against his, while walking past him.]
VValentine: executed tip number 46. mission failure.
✿FlowerGal✿: oh no what went wrong this time?
VValentine: i have a difficult time judging the strength of regular humans. i may have slightly miscalculated.
✿FlowerGal✿: miscalculated how badly?
VValentine: his arm isn’t broken, but the shoulder was dislocated.
VValentine: the doctor put the arm in a sling. they say he’ll be fine in a couple of weeks.
✿FlowerGal✿: oh boy
✿FlowerGal✿: is he pretty upset?
VValentine: he left as soon as the hospital released him, and he refused my offer to help. i think i frightened him.
✿FlowerGal✿: looks like we’ll have to do some emergency damage control. meet me outside my room in 20. we’ll talk strategy
“Cid, wait up! We’ve been looking for you!” Tifa called out, then her smile changed to a look of concern. “Oh no, you’re hurt! What happened to your arm?”
“This? I, uh…walked into a wall,” Cid said vaguely. “You ladies need somethin’?”
Yuffie snorted with laughter. “From a guy dumb enough to walk into a wall? Maybe not.”
“She’s joking, ignore her,” Tifa interposed, elbowing her aside. “There’s a little problem we wanted to ask for your help with.”
“Sure, if it don’t call for any heavy lifting.”
“Oh, nothing like that. It’s about Mr. Valentine. We thought you were the person to talk to, since you guys are friends.”
“Yeah, I’d say we’re friends. Least, I think we are. What about him?”
“Have you noticed him, like…acting strange, lately? More than usual, I mean.”
“Now ya mention it, I have, kinda,” Cid said, scratching his stubbly chin. “Usually, he follows me wherever I go. He don’t talk much—he mostly just hangs around glarin’ at the floor, or pretendin’ he ain’t asleep. But the past few days, he’s nowhere to be found, all the sudden. Like, I keep lookin’ up to say somethin’ to him, and realize he ain’t there. When I do see him, he don’t seem right. The other day he threw my toolbox on the ground and today…well, he says it was an accident, but I think he’s mad at me or, somethin’.”
Yuffie and Tifa exchanged a glance.
“Looks like it’s even worse than we thought,” Yuffie observed.
“Agreed,” Tifa nodded. “Cid, we’ve got something to tell you.”
“Something that will shock you to your core!” Yuffie proclaimed. “Or not, I don’t know what your bar for shocking is.”
Cid frowned. “Somethin’ about Vinnie?”
“I’m afraid so,” Tifa said gravely. “But let’s talk somewhere more private. You never know who could be listening.”
THE AUTHOR HAS SOMETHING TO SAY:
cloud during this chapter: [fuckfuckfuckfuck they found out i can't keep sleeping with him i have to end it today]
sephiroth: there you are, little puppet
cloud: [tomorrow. i definitely have to end it tomorrow]

FF7 R&R: I have completed all world intel for and am about to depart Cosmo Canyon at (what I assume is) the end of Chapter 10 of Rebirth.
Hoo boy, this game just keeps on going, doesn't it? My hope was to finish it this "weekend" (Wed/Thu are my days off), but man, I dunno. I've got 65 hours in this thing already and, what, four more chapters to go? I'm guessing one more big region around Nibelheim (the moogle in CC said there was one more moogle store, so that would track) and then we enter a kind of endgame phase, but we'll see. But they're already talking about heading to Temple of the Ancients, and I imagine that whole bit will take a couple of chapters, so I'm still guessing this entry will end around where Disc 1 of the original did.
As a whole, so far, I'm enjoying myself overall, but I have 2 complaints that keep it from being a total 10/10:
1) The minigames are just getting out of hand at this point. The second and third chocobo flying courses took FOREVER to even clear just the basic rank (fuck trying to S-tier that, although I did do it on the first one cos I wanted the weapon for Yuffie). And then there's the whole battle robots thing, which is like basically Fort Condor, but a different shape and somehow more complicated (I don't really understand how the "programming" part works because I don't care at this point). I see what you're trying to do, but... damn, chill. How deep are we in this thing and you're still throwing new stuff at me? Focus on a few good ones. Like Queensblood. That rules.
2) The first few regions weren't that bad, but both Gongaga and Cosmo Canyon were a fucking NIGHTMARE to navigate in an "okay, I know where I have to go, but have no idea how to get there" kind of way. Like the sort of thing where I'm poking around for 20 minutes and getting irritated so I just look up a guide so I can finally check this box off my list and move on. I like the complexity of the level design, I think it's just some of the open-world tendencies fighting that. Either let me discover things, or give me tools to help me figure out how to access your data points without getting lost and pissed off about it. The game is long enough already.
Other than that, though, I'm still very much into it.
Okay, so the Gongaga sequence was fun. I like how we did a boys' trip/girls' trip split for the journey to the reactor. Scarlett remains an absolute bitch. (Please tell me they're gonna keep the slap fight between her and Tifa in part 3--I wanna see how they update that).
Tifa falling into the lifestream was an interesting moment that I'm 95% sure didn't happen in the original. But I like the follow through they do with that when she meets with the planetologists in Cosmo Canyon and has her little "sharing circle" moment about it. You can tell that experience changed something for her. Made the whole quest more personally spiritual. Like she's been witness to a lot of fucked up shit by this point in her life, but now there's some deeper connection to the bigger picture of it all. And even before Cosmo Canyon, you get a sense of her processing that in the scene she has with Cloud after she wakes up.
I'm also interested by the apparent dueling whispers that really kind of hit home in that bit--they're fighting within the soul of the planet. And Sephiroth seems to be associated with the black ones, which are the ones trying to maintain the original story track, it seems like. The lighter ones are the ones that saved Biggs and Zack in the alternate timeline, so what's the significance of that? CAN the story actually be changed, or are they just baiting me? I don't know. What's the significance of Aerith feeling Zack's hand in the water on the way to the Gi Village? What's the relationship between these timelines, exactly? Is one of them a dream? Which one? These are the questions I'm asking myself at this point.
We got a little more of Cissnei--the party found out she's basically still a Turk (which Cait/Reeve obviously already knew), but she's on our side. Chadley's apparent crush on her is kind of cute, also.
And then there's Cid. And I love the way he's characterized in the one encounter I've had with him so far. Seeing the Tiny Bronco gave me some feels, NGL. But like... are we gonna do Rocket Town? At first, I thought he was going to join the party right there and they were going to elide that bit, but that didn't happen, so we still might. (I'm curious to see how Shera is characterized, if we do.)
What's Hojo doing to Roche? Obviously something Jenova related, but like... that doesn't bode well.
I love Nanaki breaking into his real voice as soon as he sees people from home (and Tifa being weirded out by how old he actually is). Bugenhagen's lab was fucking sweet--I wanna hang out there. But also... okay, I'm gonna admit something here. I never realized he was riding around on a floating materia. I always thought he just had a big ass and no legs and could fly for no adequately explained reason. PS1 graphics, okay? So this version makes a lot more sense. And I like that he's initially so dismissive of the party (Tifa in particular) but then--without having to be confronted about it--comes around and admits he was wrong.
The River of Lights scene was sweet. Aerith's whole speech and everything.
Okay, so the Gi Cave was cool, but the expanded explanation of who the Gi are and what they want is fascinating. Gi Nattak talks! (Also, definitely tried the Phoenix Down trick on him and it didn't work--but the vending machine right before him gives you a discounted Phoenix Down, so they knew I was gonna try). But okay--their whole connection to the Black Materia I don't remember from the original (either it wasn't there, or wasn't explained very much, I don't think), but I buy it. It does raise the question for me, though, if they didn't come from the lifestream, where DID they come from? Are they alien, like Jenova? Interdimensional like Gilgamesh? What's the deal there?
Speaking of Gilgamesh... man, I'm really curious what that's building to. Cos it's a game-long arc, apparently. And it's just... odd.
I have lots of random notes, moments that stood out from this section, but I'm focusing more on the bigger picture here. But yeah, closing in on it--we'll see how far I get tomorrow.
Then it's time to dip back into Elden Ring and work my way toward the DLC (which I hear is absofuckinglutely brutal and I'm excited to be basically dominated by it).

Sora x Tifa
Part 4
Part 3 below
Hearing his real name for the first time in years gave him shivers.
- How…?
- What happened to you? - she asked with tears in her eyes. - Why are you so… sad?
- I…
He didn’t want to show his emotions, but something about her tone and face made it impossible. Suddenly he felt tears running down his cheeks that he couldn’t and even didn’t want to stop. Seeing him like this Tifa hugged him tight and let him bury his face in her arm. Sora cried for a long time and with those tears he felt his heart getting lighter, as if it was carrying a tremendous weight before.
Once he calmed down a bit, Tifa made him sit on a bench and took place next to him.
- I’m sorry, I don’t know what happened. - he sighed.
- Oh you won’t fool me. I know you know. Tell me about it, please.
- I… I don’t know if I can. Don’t even know where to start…
She made him look at her and said:
- Let’s start with this: do you remember me?
He gazed straight in her eyes.
- Um… I have this feeling that I know you but I can’t remember.
- Ok, I’ll help. It was… Eight years ago, give or take, in Hollow Bastion. We first met in Ansem the Wise’s room. Then I helped you in a fight and after that I gave you a gift and walked away looking for Cloud.
Images flashed before his eyes as she spoke. Cloud. Aerith. Leon. Yuffie. Heartless, hundreds of them. Sephiroth.
- Tifa… - he looked at her disbelievingly.
- Sora, what happened to you? We’ve been wondering what’s going on with you for a hundred times.
- We?
- Me and Cloud.
He took a deep breath.
- I… I’m afraid to talk about it. I don’t know if I can make it. - he looked down at his hands.
- I’m here. I’ll help you.
He felt that warm and safe aura radiating from her. It gave him strength to start talking.
- It’s, um… We were fighting this man, Master Xehanort. It was the toughest enemy I’ve ever faced. Everyone was there to help. And we’ve won eventually. We came back to our Island. I thought everything was finally alright. I’ve been so happy. We have been happy. But… then she said…
It was too much for him to handle. He burst in tears again, hiding his face in hands. Tifa took him in her arms again, stroking his hair.
- It’s about Kairi, isn’t it? What did she said?
Sora shaked his head.
- Sh-she… she s-s-said that… That sh-she don’t love me anymore.
He fell apart completely, unable to control his emotions that he was hiding inside for nearly five years. He cried loudly in her arms and she couldn’t hold back tears either, seeing him like that.
- I c-can’t remember a thi-ing. - he cried. - I just know… Th-that I’ve be-ee-en fighting, like, a-a lot, and I-I have this f-f-feeling it was just for her and now I only have this flashbacks o-o-of what happened and - his tone changed from sad to very angry.- I’m so infuriated because of that... but then, - he seemed hopeless as he whispered the last sentence. - I’ve lost my reason to live.

Water
Drowning is in his past, even though he doesn't remember.
Drowning is in her future, even though she doesn't know it yet.
But in the present, day by day, they can save each other.
CW: Panic attacks, Aquaphobia, Thalassophobia, Drowning (nobody actually drowns but it feels like it) (I promise it ends on a sweet note)
Read on AO3!
Cloud wasn’t afraid of water. In theory.
He remembered going on a trip with his mom down to the bay south of Nibelheim when he was little. He’d spent the whole day in the water and his mom had been smiling wide—until he’d dragged her in with him as well and splashed her too. She’d taught him to swim that day, and he’d gone home feeling proud and eager to tell Tifa about his new skill.
Being on the ship from Junon to Costa del Sol hadn’t been a problem either. He’d barely had time to look at the water anyway between the sea-sickness, the encounter with Sephiroth, and the monster he’d left behind.
But now, on a sunny afternoon on the beach of Costa del Sol, everything was different and he didn’t know why. It had been Yuffie’s idea, to stop for a while and enjoy the sun before going back on their chase. More or less reluctantly, they’d all agreed in the end, and settled on the beach. Yuffie, Tifa, and Red XIII hadn’t wasted any time in running into the sea—and Cloud couldn’t really blame them for wanting to escape the sticky heat. Hell, he’d wanted to join them too.
Except…
Except, as soon as the sea level reached his chest, the pressure suddenly got suffocating. The water was freezing and thick as tar, and Cloud stopped dead in his tracks. His vision went black for a second, and he blinked hard to chase the darkness away. He lost his footing and caught himself just before falling. He looked up; his friends were just ahead, deeper into the water. How could they not notice how cold and heavy it was? He tried to call Tifa’s name, but only a strangled gasp came out—and some water came in. The icy feeling burned down his throat and Cloud couldn’t move, couldn’t speak, couldn’t breathe. He had to get out. Stumbling and shaking, he turned around. He had to get out now. He fought to push his way through the watery walls all around because he had to get out I can’t breathe I have to run there’s nowhere to go I have to get out get out get out get out I need to breathe I can’t breathe there’s water water water everywhere I have to get out please someone help please let me go!
Finally, Cloud stumbled out of the icy hands of the waves and onto the foreshore, breathing heavy and body heavier. Still shaking, he struggled to turn around. Tifa and the others didn’t seem to have noticed him running back out—good. Cloud tried to take a deep breath, but his throat closed up and he had to slap his mouth shut to keep himself from throwing up. The sand tasted bitter on his lips.
What the hell is going on?
“Cloud? Cloud!” Two sets of muffled footsteps were approaching, and Cloud cursed through his teeth when Aerith’s warm hand landed on his shoulder, still wracked by shivers. “Cloud, what’s wrong? Are you hurt?”
He shook his head. “I’m—I’m fine,” he croaked out.
“The hell you are.” Barret knelt down in front of him. “There something in the water? Shit, we should tell them. Tifa! Tifa! Hey!”
“Stop yelling,” said Cloud, closing his eyes and finally pushing himself up on his knees. Aerith’s hand didn’t leave his shoulder. “It’s fine. Just choked on seawater.”
Aerith and Barret shared a look. Cloud frowned. “I’m fine,” he repeated. His voice was weak, but even, and he chalked it up as a win.
Barret furrowed his brows, then glanced at Aerith again and, after a second, nodded. “Gonna get you a clean towel and some water to drink,” he said. He squeezed Cloud’s shoulder and stood up. “Take it easy.”
Cloud wanted to argue with him, but he turned tail and marched away from the beach before he could summon enough breath to speak. So he just groaned.
“Hey,” called Aerith softly, and Cloud looked at her. Her face was twisted in concern, but she attempted a small smile. “Let’s get you away from the sea, ‘kay?”
He shook his head. “I’m—”
“Fine—yeah, I know.” She grabbed his hand and tugged lightly. “Let’s do that anyway.”
Cloud sighed and let her help him up. His legs were still trembling and his breathing shaky. How pathetic could he get? But if Aerith thought so, it didn’t show on her face. She led him towards the beach umbrella she’d set up, and motioned for him to sit down on the towel. Cloud obliged. He scooted up to the very edge of it, not wanting to take up any more space than necessary. Aerith looked at him for a second, then sighed and sat down just behind him. She leaned her back against his—no weight, just a small point of contact. He sucked in a sharp breath and shivered.
“So,” she started quietly, “wanna talk about it?”
Cloud shook his head. “It’s nothing.”
He heard her sigh. “You had a panic attack,” she said simply. “Has it ever happened before?”
“Never.” He winced. Now it sounded like he was agreeing with her about her diagnosis. Damnit.
Aerith hummed. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw her start to trace mindless patterns in the sand. “Must have been scary,” she said.
It was.
Cloud was grateful she couldn't see his face, back to back as they were. He just stayed silent.
But Aerith didn’t wait for an answer. “I’d have been scared too. I can’t swim.”
“I can swim,” said Cloud, frowning. “That’s not it.”
“What is it, then?”
It was such a simple question. There shouldn’t have been an ‘it.’ He should’ve been able to get in the water and swim up to his friends and just relax for a bit—but no, he had to go and have a fucking panic attack for no reason and it wasn’t like he knew how to deal with one he was a SOLDIER and SOLDIERs didn’t have panic attacks but the water was so cold and heavy and thick and—
“Cloud! Cloud, hey, look at me.”
He shook his head and sucked in a sharp breath. Suddenly, Aerith was kneeling in front of him and was holding his hand. He hated the worried look on her face.
Cloud covered his eyes with his other hand. “Shit,” he wheezed.
He clutched his chest as broken, ragged gasps wracked his body. Shit. I gotta slow down.
Aerith gripped his hand tighter. “Breathe with me, okay? In… Out… In… Out…” She slowly drew out each inhale and exhale, and then closed her eyes.
Cloud swallowed down a thick knot in his throat and struggled to match her. In. Out. In. Out. In. Out.
He didn’t know how long it took, but eventually his racing heart and breathing slowed down, and Cloud let out one final shuddering sigh as he let his hand fall. Aerith opened her eyes and smiled sadly. “There you go.”
“Thanks,” he groaned without meeting her gaze.
She moved so she was sitting behind him again, but she didn’t let go of his hand. “Don’t mention it,” she said, squeezing his fingers lightly. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have pushed.”
Cloud shook his head. “’S okay,” he mumbled. “I’m fine.”
Aerith hummed. “It’s okay not to be.”
No, it’s not. We’ve got a murderer to catch, he thought bitterly, stiffening a bit.
She sighed, as if she heard his thoughts.
Silence reigned for a long moment.
“Can I tell you something?” said Aerith.
“What is it?”
“I had this recurring dream, when I was a kid,” she started, leaning her back against his again. “Well. I guess it was more of a nightmare.”
Cloud frowned. “Yeah?”
“Yeah. I dreamt I was floating in this big, dark lake. But I can’t swim—so I just sank into the water. There was nothing I could do.” Her voice was so quiet. “Down, down, down…” He felt her shake her head, as if to compose herself. “In the dream, it didn’t feel like drowning. But it always did when I woke up. It felt… like some kind of omen.”
Cloud shivered. “Damn,” he murmured. “I’m sorry.”
Aerith took a deep breath. “Yeah. Never been a big fan of water, either. Figured I’d never need to worry about it, living in Midgar and all. But now…” She chuckled. “Oh, well. Gotta suck it up.”
“You don’t—”
“My point is,” she interrupted, squeezing his fingers, “I get it. I understand.”
Cloud was silent for a long moment. Slowly, he turned so he could see her face. She was still smiling sadly, looking down at the sand. She understood.
An omen… No. Never. Not if I have anything to say about it.
“I’ll never let you drown,” he whispered before he could stop himself. “I promise.”
Aerith seemed surprised. She blinked up at him and cocked her head to the side. Then, she smiled. “I won’t let you drown either,” she replied, voice so soft he almost missed it. “Thank you.”
Cloud shook his head. “No. Thank you.” He squeezed her hand in return.
Her smile widened, then melted into a thoughtful, hesitant expression. Time slowed down to a crawl as Aerith bit her lip and buried her eyes into his. For a long, maddening moment, Cloud thought she was getting closer. He let out a quiet, shuddering breath and closed his eyes.
“Here you go!”
Cloud and Aerith sprung apart at the sound of Barret’s voice. He grinned at them from behind a bunched-up towel and a large glass of water with a couple of ice cubes. “Sorry, took a while to find this.” He paused, then pushed down his sunglasses and raised an eyebrow. “Interrupting somethin’?”
Cloud looked away. His face was on fire and he was sure they could both tell. Damnit.
Aerith laughed airily and reached out to take the towel from him. She draped it over Cloud’s shoulders and patted them lightly. “Nah, don’t worry.”
Barret hummed like he didn’t believe her, then sat down next to Cloud and Aerith, forcing them to scoot over a bit. “Whatever you say. Here.” He handed Cloud the glass.
He took it without meeting his eyes. “Thanks.”
“Feelin’ any better?” asked Barret.
Cloud took a slow sip—the water was cold, but not terrifyingly so as it had been in the sea—and glanced back at Aerith.
“Yeah,” he said. “Much better.”

Dream or Reality (Noctis x Reader)
I wrote this fic years ago. So, I fixed up a little and decided to post it here. I have also posted it in devianart under LastMoogleHunter. Happy reading!
“Aaaaahhh….what a boring day, always the same. There’s nothing new, nothing makes me excited.” I sighed for the umpteenth times. I see, I haven’t introduced myself, my name is [Name] [Last Name], I am 12th grade in Destiny High. This is my last year, thus was recommended in making good memories. Though…there is nothing fun, I wish Final Fantasy characters are real people. That’ll so much fun, especially if there is Noctis.....
Kyaaaa!!! I am so embarassed... ahem, let’s put that aside and let’s get onto the story.
This morning also has the same routine, wake up, bath, breakfast, school, home, dinner, sleep and so on. And coincidentally my literature teacher decides it’s fun to see her students suffer, and thus given us a homework about composition. I groan, this is going to kill my brain cells. “God, please let my life get interesting such as Final Fantasy character come to life..... Just kidding, it’s not like it can be granted anyway.” I exhaled. I put my homework and stationery on my desk and start thinking about the theme I am going to write. Not long after I start doze off.
My internal clock woke me up from my slumber. Groggily, I glance my clock and it shows 6.30 a.m. I blink once, twice and rub my eyes to make sure I am not mistaking it. In instant, all sleepiness fades away. ”Aaaahh!! I am late!!” I freaked out and with lightning speed I took a bath. While I was stripping though, something fell from my shorts’ pocket. I pick it up and examine it, it was a golden watch. Curious, I open it and something was craved on the lid ‘aeternam vinculo’ ‘what’s this mean? More importantly when I got this thing?’ I was thinking and completely forgotten the time.
“[Name]! breakfast is ready!” Kaa-san called.
“No way!” I yelped and resumed my activity.
I run down the stairs and eat breakfast quickly, “[Name], there’s still some time.” Kaa-san said.
I gulp down my orange juice, “Gotta go. Bye Kaa-san, Tou-san.” I said as I ran to school. Fortunately, the distance to school from my house is not that far. Upon arriving there, I still see a lot of students leisurely walking to the school. Looks like I am safe. I sigh in relief as I pat my chest. suddenly, I feel a tap on my shoulder and I turn around, but the sight of that ‘someone’ tapping my shoulder made my eyes widenend.
“Morning.” He said, while I blinked once, twice, titled my head and stare at him as he is an alien landing on earth. The person who greeted me is no other than the famous Chocobo head, Cloud Strife.
I keep staring at him without blinking. “You…” I could only manage a word to come out from my mouth.
Cloud looks at me oddly, “What’s wrong?” he asked.
“Good morning you two.” A new voice called. Our head snap to that direction and find Tifa and Yuffie are walking toward us.
My eyes widened ‘[Name].exe is shutting down.’ I can practically hear a robotic voice said that. ‘What exactly is going on?’
Seeing my confused blank looking face, concern made to Tifa’s face, “[Name], what’s wrong?” She asked.
So, I did the most logical action I could at the moment, I pinch my left hand, “Ow…” ‘It hurt.’ I rubbed my reddening left hand.
“[Name], are you really alright?” Tifa asked again. “Don’t worry Tifa, I bet she just woke up.” Yuffie grinned.
‘It’s not a dream....? t-they are really alive...?’ I am still confused, I am still not sure if I am having a realistic dream or this is the reality. But if so, what about yesterday and the day before yesterday and the days before today? Was that reality a dream? And this is the real reality? My mind is in jumbled mess, but I am happy. My wish has come true, my wish for the Final Fantasy characters are real people and as a bonus I have befriend with them. There’s no more I could ask for.
I feel someone shakes me. “Huh?” I snapped back to the reality.
“Maybe we should get her to infirmary.” Tifa said.
“Whooa. [Name], you really sick?” Yuffie was shocked by the news.
“Let’s go.” Cloud said as he prepared to drag me.
“W-wait! I’m fine, I just dozing because I just woke up.” I said putting a sheepish grin.
“See, she’s just woke up.” Yuffie grinned again, but I can see she was relieved as well.
‘Well, I did wish something interesting like this happen. Well, dream or not let’s enjoyed it to the last.’ I smiled at my thought as we walked to the class.
Upon entering class, I no longer panic on what I saw. There are some FF characters here and there, but I spot no Noctis, ‘Well, I’ll be lying if I am not disappointed.’ I sigh softly. ‘Well, nothing goes smooth now.’
Then I heard giggles and squeals. ‘Don’t tell me this is a famous scene from shoujo manga. The moment when male lead and his group enter the classroom. If so, then… Those girls will be the mortal enemies of the female lead. After the plot milked her usefulness, she and her sidekicks will fall into ruin.’ I blinked as I looked at those girls. ‘What a shame. They look nice enough though. But, I wonder who they’re fangirling about.’ I follow the crowd’s eyes, then the door opened revealing ‘Emergency! Mayday! Mayday! All staffs please evacuate! The ship will sink soon!Eh? EEEEEEHHHHH???!!! What is happening?! Why is he here?! No... I mean… I am happy that he is here. But he being here is a problem itself to me, in many ways.’ The one who opened the door is no other than Noctis.
I stiffen when he walks to me. “Good morning.” He muttered as he walked past me to his seat which is behind me.
“Mo-morning…?” And the problem is I was suttering when I replied, ‘Now I’ve done it…. he officially think I am one of his fangirls.’ I sighed earning a few snickers from Tifa and Yuffie which I give them an odd look.
“Morning, Hime-chi.” Prompto greeted.
I am not sure who is Hime-chi is. But seeing no one responds to him, it must be me, right? “Morning…?” I greeted back hesitantly.
During the duration of the lesson, I can’t concentrate at all. Part of it is because Noctis is sitting behind me. The other part is I am frantically thinking what should I do, what is my relationship with him and the other characters. Just because some of them are my friends, that doesn’t mean all of the characters must be my friends. And I have to be careful how to act around them, so they didn’t notice my awkwardness.
The bell rings signaling lunch break. Finally, me and the group which included almost all of the alvalanche members plus some other go to school cafeteria. Minus Cid and Barret cause they’re too old to go to school anyway which I found out later the two of them are school staffs. Barret as P.E teacher and Cid as engineer. And of course, let’s not forget Zack and Aerith. We go to cafeteria to eat lunch, while the others eat and talking each other, I am thinking about a lot of thing and that mysterious golden watch.
“[Name].” A voice snapped me out of my own world and I found all of them were staring at me.
“Huh?” I blinked owlishly.
“Are you okay?” Aerith asked worriedly.
“Did they bully you?” Prompto frowned.
“Eh? Bully? Who?” I tilted my head not understanding who were they talking about. ‘…For the first time in my life I was bullied…’
“WHAT!? Those girls are bullying my little sister?! How dare they!” Zack raged.
“W-Wait a minute. I am fine. No one is bullying me.” I said quickly calming them down.
“I heard something about bullying [Name]. Who is daring enough to do that?” Another new voice chimed in.
“Ah.” I blinked at the newcomers, twins exactly.
“Stella, Luna. Where were you guys?” Yuffie asked.
“Sorry, the teacher needed us just now.” Stella apologized.
“So, I heard someone is bullying [Name]? Which idiot?” Luna smiled scarily.
“No one was bullying me.” I shook my head quickly. ‘Scary…. Does Lunafreya is this kind of character?’ I sweatdropped.
“If we are talking about bullying, then I am sure it’s no other than her and her little group.” Tifa rolled her eyes.
‘I wonder who and why would people bully me? I don’t think I’ve ever made someone mad enough to be bullied by them.’ I scanned the cafeteria and spot a group of girls glaring at me, ‘Ah. So, they are the bully group.’ Then a mop of blond caught my attention, I narrow my eyes to get better sight, ‘…Who is she? I have never meet her before, but strangely her name popped out in my mind. Tachibana Kirika-san, Noct’s fangirl…. Ah, no wonder.’ I looked at her object of affection.
“Ignore them” Noct said.
“Umm...okay.” I answered.
After that staring contest, all is well. No war break between us. The last bell finally rings, signaling the end of school. And so, as per usual ritual, apparently we always go home together. “See you tomorrow.” I waved to them when I arrived at my house.
“See you.” They waved back. I open the door only to find it is hollow of life. I found a note one dinner table ‘Business trip one week, there’s a leftover for dinner. We’ll get your cousin to stay at the house tomorrow.’ I sighed. It’s still the same,’Oh well, I’m used to it.... wonder who is my cousin. This is the first time I heard about having a cousin staying over.’
Tired and still in term of accepting what has happened today. I am feeling really sleepy, but I didn’t dare to sleep. What if this is just a dream and I’ll wake up in the same position on my desk, as selfish as it may sound I still don’t want this to end yet. So many thoughts race in my head, absetmindedly I take out the golden watch and finally fallen asleep holding that.
I wake up with a start and glancing at my room, then realize something, FF charas. ‘Is it a dream?’ I sighed and I felt something in my hand. The golden watch, it’s still here. That means ‘It’s not a dream.’ I grinned widely, they are real. Thus, I quickly begin my routine of the day.
Arriving to the class, I greet them. Them as in the group. “Morning.” I greeted.
“Morning.” They replied. I sit at my seat and put my bag on drawer, but then a sharp pain creeps through my hand, instictively I take out my hand and trail of blood is dripping from my hand. My eyes flicker at the sound of giggles, there Tachibana Karin stand proudly at what she have done, she even raises her chin up to which I reply with raised eyebrow.
‘Truly, this is the first time I am being bullied for real.’
Seeing my bloodied right hand and still bleeding. Cloud quickly take my hand and examines it. “You okay?” He asked.
“As okay as someone will be with bleeding hand.” I remarked. Zack is definitely pissed off by the look of his face and stalks toward them.
“Why you little-“
“Zack. There’s no need to get angry.” I called to him.
Ignoring my call, he still stalks toward them, that is until Vincent holds him, “Ignore them. We should take her to infirmary.” He said.
“No no no. we can’t let this kind of things go.” Stella stepped in.
“Indeed. We’ll need to teach her a lesson.” Luna easily agreed with the older twin.
“Stella, Luna. Not you two too.” I sweatdropped.
“Let’s just take [Name] to infirmary first.” Tifa said. With that, the group accompanies me to the infirmary.
“The cut isn’t deep, it will heal in few days.” Nurse Quistis said after she finished bandaging me.
“Thank you.” I thanked her.
“It’s my job, now off you go to class.” She ushered.
“Yes ma’am.” I give her mock salute as I get out of the room.
Entering the class, I was bombarded with questions. Quistis kicked all of the out for being so noisy and too much. “I am fine.” I said for the umpteenth time.
Then Tachibana-san comes to me and asks with her sickly sweet voice, “How was your hand? Is it hurt?”
“Well, why don’t we try it to your hand. And then you’ll know whether it’s hurt or not.” I smiled eraning a few snickers from my friends as they heard my reply.
Tachibana-san’s face is red with anger and opens her mouth to say something. But then, the door opened revealing Noctis and Prompto. she quickly puts her sweet façade again to which I know that isn’t fooling anyone with decent IQ. “Good morning.” She greeted him which was ignored and laughter rose from our throats.
“If you didn’t do something like bullying his friends, you might have a chance.” I told her.
“You!” She gritted her teeth.
‘Aaah… She really didn’t get it.’ I sighed mentally. “Good morning you two. How unusuall for you to almost late.” I greeted.
“Good morning, Hime-chi. You see, we are almost late because we met an old woman on the street. She… Hime-chi, what happened to your hand?” Prompto frowned when he saw bandage on my left hand.
“Your hand...”
“Oh, this..” I said as I lift my hand. “Apparently, someone with a bad hobby finds it interesting to get me scream in pain. Unfortunately, they didn’t get what they want.” I smiled. Noct opens his mouth to ask something when the bell rang, signalling the start of class. All of us goes back to our seat. Well, in my case after recieving a hateful glare from Tachibana-san.
‘More importantly I wonder… Why is she targeting me? I mean, Noct’s female friends are not only I. There are Luna and Stella too…. Does she know I like him…? Well, I do like him as character in games before. And meeting him right now does make my feeling stronger… but, I am not sure if I like him as man… Besides…’ A certain scene from the game flashes in my mind. It’s overlapping in a scene I’ve seen here. ‘I am such a fool… obviously they are together…’ A bitter smile graces my lips.
The lessons went well, save for the ocasion hateful glare... okay scratch that, hateful glare all along. Lucnh break bell rings..... “Okay class, that’s all for today... oh and there is winter ball on the 28th December. All of you MUST come, it’ll be the last event for you. Class dissmissed.” Then the teacher goes out of classroom.
I groan inwardly, ‘Great… a ballroom.’ Note the sacarsm. The students scatters, chatting about the ball, while the group (girls only) advance to me.
“Soooo.....” Yuffie begins the conversation. “Who is going to be your date?” she asked excitedly.
“I don’t want to go.” I groaned again.
“You shouldn’t idle too long [Name], he will be snatched away.” Aerith said gigglig slightly.
“He? Who?” I titled my head. ‘Do I like someone?’
“Of course it’s him.” Yuffie answered.
“Tsk tsk tsk. As if [Name] will like another boy except from him.” Stella raised her brow.
“That dense man is too dense.” Luna giggled.
“Who is he exactly?” I frowned. But to them, my expression right now is quite funny because they are giggling.
“Don’t play dumb [Name]. all of us already know who is he. He is the one who gifted you the golden watch on your birthday.” Tifa said.
‘So, that was a gift from someone. And that someone is my crush so to speak…’ I blinked. ‘Who is…’ Suddenly the answer appeared itself in my mind.
*Poof* my face explodes to a blush. ‘It’s him. That man who is a trouble to me just by being here.’ I covered my face looking away from the evil grins on their faces.
“That time he was so shy. It’s funny, right?” Yuffie exclaimed.
“Hey, you guys.” I was saved by Reno. “Who are going to be you girls’ date?” He asked excitedly.
“Not again…” I groaned. “Reno, you don’t have any delicacy at all.” I whined.
“What happened to her?” Reno blinked.
“Just girl trouble.” Stella giggled followed by the rest of the girl.
“I mean you guys have fixed date already. Is there any point to ask?” I pouted. “I’m sure Tifa is going with Cloud, Aerith and Zack, Yuffie with Vincent. Stella is with Prompto and Luna will be going with No-.” I said.
“My date is a secret.” Luna cut my sentence.
“Secret?” I blinked.
“Yep. You’ll know when the time comes.” She smiled mysteriously.
“So, what about you [Name]? Wanna be my date?” He winked.
I snort, “No, thank you.” I flat out rejected him. “If I go with you. Your group of angry girlfriends will be waiting for me. Nuh-uh. I still want to be perfectly healthy, thank you.” All of them excluding Reno who is now sulking are laughing at his misfortune. “I am probably going alone. There’s no rule I can’t go alone.” I smiled. “…What’s wrong?” I blinked when I found them stared at me oddly.
“[Name]… You are quite dense…” Tifa sweatdropped.
“Huh?” I titled my head.
“[Name] you know, you are quite popular. If you say you are searching for a date. Everyone will probably line up.” Aerith giggled.
“…You are teasing me, aren’t you? I have a plain face you know. The one that is neither pretty, beautiful or cute. Besides, if I mean if I am quite popular, how come no one talk to me or better yet flirt to me?” I put an unamused face.
‘That’s because a certain someone made sure no one will not talk to you more than necessary. How can they have a gut to flirt with you with him hanging around you like a guard dog.’ All of them sweatdropped.
“Enough about me. What about the prince?” I turned my question to the prince that walked past me back to his seat.
“About what?” He sat back down.
“The winter ball. Who are you escorting?” I asked.
He snorts. “I don’t want to go.” He said.
“Me too. But we are forced to go.” I chuckled.
“I am waiting for someone.” He answered shortly. His answer makes the boys laugh. I raise my eyebrow at their odd reaction.
“You should hurry and ask her out, or else she’ll out of your reach.” Zack chuckled.
“Yep. After all the effort you put into.” Cloud nodded.
Zack’s word make my chest stings a bit. ‘What is this feeling?’ I blink the I shake my head to ignore it and chat with the rest of them.
Zack’s word is still ringing in my head. I am indeed curious as who is he going to ask, but I am more curious about the feeling in my heart just now. ’They are just characters from game, right? So, why did I have this feeling? Besides, I am sure he is going to ask Luna. No need to think that hard. They obviously are going to reveal it at the winter ball.’ I finally asleep while thinking about this.
Again, I wake up from my peaceful slumber before the alarm rings. I rub my eyes to get rid the alimighty power of sleepiness. The calendar on my wall made me realize this is Saturday. ‘Oh, it’s finally this day.’
As usual, I did my everyday routine, and then off to school. My peaceful day was once again ruined by Tachibana-san and the rabid fangirls follower.
“You! You dare to embarass me the other day, in front of my Noctis no less.” She screehed.
“My...Noctis...? Wow, I am not sure how to reply to that statement... Besides, weren’t you the one asked me about my hand, I just answered that it would be better for you to experience it first hand.” I answered effortlessly.
“You bitch!” She swung her hand to slap me. I am ready to dodge and prepare some wise words. But, her hand was caught midair by a more masculine hand.
I turn my head to get a better look of my savior. ‘Squall.’ I blinked at the unexpected character. ‘Rinoa shouldn’t be too far from Squall.’ I giggled inwardly at my own thought.
“You better stop this or you’ll get more than just slapping.” He growled. Tachibana-san turns pale. She and her follower quickly retreat back.
Then suddenly a girl pops out from his side. “Are you okay, [Name]?” Said girl is no other than Rinoa. ‘As I thought, Rinoa is not far.’ I chuckled at my own thought.
“I am fine.” I answered. “But, why are you two here?” I asked, I am not surprised with the characters popping out as my friends anymore. Last time, I found out Ignis is our Chemistry teacher and Gladioulus as our school security guard.
“Listen well! this isn’t over! I’ll make your life a living hell!” Tachibana-san sreeched which we of course ignored. The she stomps out here with her rabid fangirls follower.
“Just like always, you are a trouble magnet.” Squall Leonhart, which like to be called Leon sighed.
“You haven’t answered my question... Squeon.” I added my personal nickname just to annoy him.
“Your parents were worried, so they asked me to take care of you.” He said ignoring my nickname.
“I am fine, Squeon.” I said again.
Squall snorts, he lifts my bandaged hand, “And you said this was okay.”
“[Name], you are injured. What happened?” Worrywart Rinoa asked.
“I am okay. It’s just a small wound, Quistis said it will heal in 2 or 3 days.” I said calming Rinoa down.
Then, we heard some footsteps running toward us. The group are rushing to us. “Squall! Rinoa!” They exclaimed happily when they saw them.
“It’s Leon.” He grunted.
“Nooo, it’s Squeon.” I laughed. Squall only glares at me using his infamous glare.
“Long time no see.” Rinoa smiled.
“[Name], are you alright? I heard from some people Tachibana was bullying you, what did she do to you?” The now panicking Tifa asked.
“I am okay. she was just going to slap me, but Squeon stopped her.” I answered.
“WHAT?! She was going to slap you?! That damn bitch! How dare she!” Zack cursed.
“Calm down. I am not strupid just standing there waiting her slaps me.” I snorted. ‘Besides, which idiot will stand still when they are going to be hit.’
“By the way, if Squall and Rinoa are here. Does that mean they are going to be your care taker again?” Cloud asked.
“Yes, they are.” I said grinning.
“Oooooh, it’s rare that we can gather here together. So, how about we go to Chocobo Land  tomorrow?” Yuffie exclaimed excitedly.
“Chocobo Land.... Well, it’s been a while, the last time we go together was on [Name]’s birthday.” Aerith said. With that said, all of us decide to go to Chocobo Land tomorrow. Unbeknwon to me, I am playing right to their trap.~”~
“Eeeeehhhh~ Why can’t you go with us?” I asked, dismayed at the fact we couldn’t spend time together.
“Rinoa isn’t feeling well.” Was Squall short answer.
But I can’t shake the feeling that something is off. “She was fine yesterday.” I mumbled.
“Yesterday and today are different.” But all I did was stare, stare and stare. He sighs, “Just go already, you don’t want to be late, right?” He ushered me to go.
“Yes~” I sulked.
Arriving at the Chocobo Land. Only Noctis is at the rendezvous point. “Hey, Noct, where is the others?” I asked.
“They still haven’t arrived.” He answered.
‘Weird. They are usually on time. Maybe Yuffie will be a little late.’ I blinked at the unusual happening. And suddenly our phones ring at the same time signalling there are messages in our group chat.
Tifa
“Sorry, my parents are out of town suddenly. Need to housesit.”
Yuffie
Some brats in neighborhood are hunting my treasure. Need to safeguard it.
Zack
Am grounded. T.T
Luna
“Sis and I have trouble escaping from arranged marriage.
Stella
“Have fun. We will arrive there late.”
Aerith
“The shop is crowded. I can’t go out yet.”
Squall
“Rinoa is sick. Need to take care of her.”
Rinoa
Sorry guys.
Cloud
“Fixing my bike.”
Vincent
“…Sleepy…”
Prompto
“Helping acquaintance in photoshoot.”
‘What kind of hellish timing is this?’ I sweatdropped. ‘…No matter how I think, they are definitely setting us up.’ I sighed softly.
The two of us look at each other and sigh. “We were set up.” He said. “So, what should we do? Should we go home?” He asked again.
“Hmmm… We’re already here anyway. So, let’s just play. Just the two of us.” I grinned. A small smile is tugging on his lip hearing my sentece. But, unbeknown to us, we were followed by eight enthusiastic stalkers plus two reluctant stalkers and cameras.
Everywhere and anywhere as far as I can see, all I can see is Chocobo. The excitement is building up. “Chocobo♪~ Chocobo♪~.” I hummed out with sparkling eyes.
“Your love for Chocobo is something else.” Noct sweatdropped.
“What can I say, I just love Chocobo.” I giggled. “Then, our first ride will be that.” I pointed to the Chocobo Jet that was quite far from our meeting point.
“Figures you will ride that first.” Noctis chuckled.
“Let’s go!” I giggled excitedly. ‘Just for today. Let me spend a quality time with him. Yes…Just for today.’ The Chocobo Jet is really exciting. “I want to ride it again.” I said enthusiastically.
“Let’s ride the other attraction first. We’ll ride the roller coaster again later.” He sighed helplessly.
“It’s a promise, okay. I won’t go home if I don’t get to ride it again.” I stuck my pinky to him.
“Yes, yes. It’s a promise.” He hooked his pinky to mine. And then seamlessly warps his hand around mine and tugs me along.
I blink at the action. ‘Alert, alert. The parameter is rising.’ A slight blush adorns my cheeks. I quickly put a hand on my cheek to cool it down.
“What’s wrong?” He asked when he saw my weird action.
“Nothing!” I squeaked in high pitched voice.
He blinks, “You are so weird.” He laughed.
“I don’t want to hear that from you.” I stuck my togue out to him.
The next ride is Chocobo Cup. “Spin faster!” I laughed cheerily as I spun the cup faster.
“You’ll get dizzy later.” Noct smiled.
‘Hm…?’ from the corner of my eyes, I think I caught a glimpse of a familiar chocobo head. ‘Was I mistaken?’
“What’s wrong?” Ncoct asked when he realized I stopped spinning.
“Ah, nothing, I thought I saw Cloud.” I shook my head. “It must be my imagination. I mean this is Chocobo Land.” I laughed. All of the visitors are wearing Chocobo headband which we get as a free gift in the entrance.
“What do you want to do next?” He asked.
“Hm…Oh!” My eyes are drawn to the shooting range not far from us. More accurately, drawn to the prizes in that shooting range. “That! Let’s compete!” I turned to Noctis.
“Yes?”
“Let’s see who will get the grand prize first!” I exclaimed.
“Yo, ojou-chan, an-chan. The point for the grand prize is 150. The rule is easy. Your gun has 3 bullets. Knock down the plate with the point written on it. collect 150 points and you have the grand prize. Easy, right?” Baku explained.
“Yep!” I nodded.
“One game is 150 gil.” He smiled.
“Give us two guns.” Noct said as he handed him the money.
“Haiyo!” Baku handed us the bullet.
“The game is on!” I grinned.
~One Round Later~
“Not fair….” I sulked. In the end, Noctis wins with overwhelming victory. I don’t understand how he managed to get 200 points, while I couldn’t even get the 10 points plate down.
“Bwahahahaha! Ojou-chan, you are the best! Your skill is one in one hundred!” Baku laughed merrily.
“Sh-shut up!” I cried out.
“An-chan, your skill is amazing. Usually, the guests will spend more than 3 games to get a hang of this game.” He smirked.
“This is just a fluke. My friend happens to be good at this kind of game. I was only following his advice.” Noct answered.
“Heh. I want to meet this friend of yours.” Baku smirked.
“Next time, I guess.” Noct shrugged his shoulder.
“Bahahaha! I can’t wait!” Baku laughed harder.
While those two are chatting. I am already at my own land of misery. “I am sorry Chocobo. I can’t get you. I am sorry I am such a failure.” I murmured.
“So, what happen to Ojou-chan?” Baku sweatdropped.
“She just happened to love Chocobo a bit too much. Too much that I am jealous.”
“Bwahahaha! You win the game, but lost the war. I really pity you, An-chan” Baku patted his shoulders.
“Haahh…” He sighed. “[Name]. Here, this is yours.” Something is shoved to my face. It’s the grand prize of the shooting range, Golden Chocobo.
“For me?” I blinked.
“Of course.” He rolled his eyes. “If I don’t give it to you. You’ll keep staring at me as if you are having a grudge on me.” He smirked.
“I-I will not.” I flushed.
“Ojou-chan!” Baku called.
“Yes?”
“Here. A consolation prize.” Baku gave me two droppy chocobo hat. “Thanks to Ojou-chan, I have a great laugh today.” Baku grinned.
“Thank you!” I quickly put it on my head, while keeping the headband I got on my small backpack I brought. “Noct, you wear one too.” I gave the hat to him. The said man obediently bends down his body so I can put it on him. “We match!” I laughed happily, completely missing his softened look to me.
“Bahahaha! I pray for your success, an-chan.” Baku laughed.
“Thanks.” Noct replied. While I completely don’t understand what they were talking about. “Let’s go. We still have many attractions to ride.” He tugged my hand along.
“Yes!” ‘I think whether this is a dream or reality, this will be the happiest day of my live.’
Our next destination is, “Chocobo House!!!” I shrieked at the sight. I rush to the house, wanting to see it up close and personal.
“Hey! Don’t run!” I heard Noct’s warning.
“Don’t worry! I am not a child. I won’t fall down. Hurry up! Hurry up!” I urged him.
“We need to buy tickets first.” He sighed.
“Ah.” I blinked, completely forgotten that. Noct rolls his eyes as he pays for the tickets.
“Thank you for the purchase. Please enjoy the house.” The staff smiled.
Chocobo House, truly befitting the name. The house is basically Chocobo den. Look right, there will be a lot of Chocobo. Look left, there will be a lot of Chocobo. Look up, there will be a lot of Chocobo lantern. Look down, the tile is Chocobo pattern. And in the center if the house, there is the fat Chocobo.
“….Can I take that home?” I muttered out loud.
“Will it fit in your room?” Noct sweatdropped.
“I have an unused room. It will fit there. I can just move my Chocobo shrine there.” My eyes sparkled.
“Oi oi oi. Will they even let you buy it. Rather, even if they are willing to sell. Does your pocket money enough?” Noct sighed.
“Hmmm…. I should really get a part time job.” I muttered as I trying to calculate how much the Fat Chocobo will cost.
“Wait! Wait! They are selling the miniature version of Fat Chocobo. Let’s take a look.” Noct dragged me to the merchandise counter. In the end, I buy the Fat Chocobo plushie. More precisely, it was bought for me.
“I could buy it myself. You’ve paid for the rides and tickets. I can at least buy the merchandise myself.” I pouted and frowned as I hugged the plushie.
“It’s fine. I just want to. My father told me I need to spoil you to win your heart. He even willingly and happily to let me spend money to make you his daughter in law.” He muttered.
“Hm? What did you say?” I couldn’t hear the second part of his sentences.
“Nothing. Let’s ride that next.” He pointed to the Chocobo-go-round.
“Okay!” ~”~
“I am hungry~” I whined as I sat on the park bench.
“It’s already 1.00 p.m.” Noctis said as he looked at his watch. “The food court is over there.” Noctis said.
“Yosh! After lunch, we are going to continue.” I beamed, while my companion just shook his head at my antics. “Hey, don’t tell me you don’t enjoy it. Because we know it’s a lie.” I pointed my finger to him.
“I never said I didn’t.” He chuckled.
“Then all is well.” I grinned.
We are sitting in the food court, waiting for our order. The topic of our conversation is the hellish timing our friends have. “They are definitely…” I trailed off.
“…Doing this in purpose…” He finished.
“There’s no way they have this kind of convenient timing of not going. Well, in Zack’s case… he might be really grounded.” I giggled as we glanced secretly to the seats behind us.
“He-hey! Don’t be too noisy, they’ll find out.” A familiar voice of Tifa was heard.
“But, I can’t hear what are they talking about.” Yuffie whined.
“What a sloppy tailing.” I sniggered.
“They really… have too much free time.” Noct sighed.
“They seem don’t know that we’ve know they tailed us from the start.” I laughed merrily, really enjoying this charade. From the corner of my eyes, I can see now they are fighting for food, Zack and Cloud plus Yuffie. “Let’s caught them red handed later.” I laughed.
“Here are your orders.” A kind waitress set down our food.
“Thank you.” We thanked her.
“Please enjoy!” She smiled cheerily.
“Thanks for the food.” ~”~
“Noct. Let’s go over there.” I pointed to an ice-cream stall.
“Didn’t you just eat lunch?” He blinked.
“If it’s for ice cream, I am sure my stomach will make more room.” I answered.
“….What flavor?” He could only helplessly ask.
“Sea-salt ice cream!” I said excitedly.
“Wait here.” He told me and he is off to the stall.
“Ah, I want ice cream too.” I heard Yuffie whined.
“If we go now. We’ll be caught.” Stella reminded.
“But… ice cream…” I could already imagine her face looked like a kicked puppy.
“We need to endure.” Luna said sternly.
“Here.” Noct came back with an ice cream.
“Where is yours?” I blinked as I took the ice cream.
“I am good.” He said.
“Is that so?” I licked the ice. “Mmmnn… It’s delicious.” My eyes sparkled. “Here. Have a taste. It’s delicious. Delicious food should be shared to double the deliciousness.” I grinned.
“…Then, I’ll be happy to oblige.” He smiled softly as eat the ice from my hand.
“How is it? Isn’t it delicious?” I asked animatedly.
“Yeah. It’s delicious.” A ghost smile on his lips.
“See! I told you, you should buy one for yourself.” I said smugly. I quickly devour the ice cream until I realize what have I done. *Poof* ‘He ate mine…. Indirect kiss… No no no, let’s not think about it.… Okay, breathe in… breathe out… It’s okay. It’s just indirect kiss. No biggie….NO! it’s not okay for my heart! Does he even realized what he has done! I know I was the one offered it to him, but…’
“Why is your face red? Is it heatstroke?” He frowned.
“No! I am fine! Completely fine. It’s only a little bit too hot! It’s not a heatstroke!” The completely flustered me squeaked out. “Let’s go there!” I randomly pointed a ride and hurried there, missing the knowing smirk on his face.
The clock has shown 5.30 p.m. the only remaining ride is, “Hey, Noct. Let’s ride Chocobo Wheel.” I dragged him to the line. The said man allows me to drag him, he’s suprisingly obidient.
The Ferris Wheel stops when we are at the top. “When are we going to catch them red handed?” He smirked.
“You’ll see.” I grinned mischievously. “As expected from the highest point. I can see all of them park from here. It’s beautiful.” I was awed by the breathtaking view.
“Indeed…” What I didn’t know is, he wasn’t talking about the view.
The ride has ended. We are back on the land. “Ah! I have to call Squeon, first. I am worried about Rinoa.” I said out loud, letting our stalkers hear. “If he has something he needs, I can swing to the nearest drug store.” I fished out my phone from my bag. Can practically hear the nervous choked sounds from our stalkers. I push the speed dial button number 1. A familiar ringtone rings. My smile widens when I heard that.
“Hello!” I waved to them. We catch our stalkers red handed. “I thought you all have some kind of troubles.” I raised my brow.
“Ahahahha… We were just...uh…worried about you two. Yes, we were worried.” Zack laughed nervously, which then elbowed by Aerith for stuttering.
“So, did you guys get nice pictures? Because I am expecting it.” I snickered.
“I thought you were grounded, Zack.” Noct smirked.
“Hey, everyone! The photos are done. What are- “Yuffie stopped in mid sentence when she saw us. “Ahahahaha. Hello, [Name].” Yuffie greeted me.
“Geh! Noct!” Prompto gasped.
“Yuffie~, Prompto ~ What about those pictures in your hands?” I asked with a smile etched on my face.
“O-oh, th-this is..” She trailed off, senaking a glance on me, I still waiting her answer with a smile. “Eheheheh.... Okay, I give up. Here, all yours.” She gave us the photos they took. To put it simply, those are our candid photos. There are also the others but mostly about me and Noctis.
“Awww, this one is soo cute.” Tifa cooed. The pictures she chooses is the one when Noct was eating my ice cream. The angle is good. It’s just quite embarrassing.
“Heheh. Mine is this.” Luna chose the time when I put Chocobo hat on Noct.
“Oh. I like this one.” Stella picked our competition in shooting range.
“This one is good.” Aerith liked the one where I hug the huge Fat Chocobo in Chocobo House.
“Oookay. Let’s save this for later. For the last ride, we’ll go on Chocobo Jet. I will not allow any objection.” I exclaimed happily. For the last ride. We are fortunate the ride is enough for all of us.
“It was fun! It’s been a while I play this much.” I stretched.
“We should come here together again.” Rinoa smiled.
“Agreed! But no more stalking.” I laughed.
Time sure flies fast. It’s already one week before Christmas, we the girls are shopping for Christmas gift. ‘Sooo, what should I buy? Let’s just buy what they can use everyday.’ The other girls already busy choosing their own gifts. I am just strolling in the accesorries shop. After all of us finished, we head back to home. ~”~
It’s finally Christmas. The girls agreed to gather at Tifa’s house and give a make-over to each other, while I opted to not involved which is not an option. I am also dragged in to the whole fiasco. Exactly 7 p.m. We heard the knock, signaling the boy group has come.
“Merry Christmas.” Zack said excitedly.
“Merry Christmas.” We greeted. After we greeted each other, the party starts. I give them their respective gifts. Earrings for Tifa, bracelet for Yuffie, a necklace for Stella and Luna, a phone case for Vincent, a dress for Aerith, a google for Cloud, another dress for Rinoa and a for Zack, my self proclaimed brother, I gave him a pair of shoes. For my dearest cousin, it’s a leather jacket.
I am now down to the last person, but the said person isn’t in the room. The gift is still clutched in my hand. I see Tifa tilts her head to the yard, I nod and flash a grateful smile.
I found him gazing stars. “Not going to enter?” I asked.
Noctis glances at me and then back to the stars. “Too noisy.” Was his short answer. I laugh lightly at his short, but clear answer.
There is a comfortable silence between us, until I remember the reason I searched him. “Here.” I gave him the small blue box.
“For me?” I nodded at his question. Then he also pulls out something small from his pocket and gives it to me. I look at the gift curiously. I try to guess what’s in this little black box. Seeing the blatant curiosity on my face, Noctis chuckles. “Open it.” He said. With that said, I open the box excitedly. There, in the black box there is a ring necklace. My name is carved on the ring. My eyes widened and let out a small laugh. Noctis only stares at me with raised eyebrow.
“Open my gift.” I said still laughing. With a strange look he opens the box. His eyes also widen, there in the blue box I gave him, there’s also a same ring necklace. the only difference is the carved names. Then a small laugh also escapes from his lips.
“Will you allow me to escort you in the winter ball?” He asked.
This question caught me off guard. I never thought he will ask me let alone think about it. I look left, right and then behind me to see if someone is there. “…Are you practicing so you can ask Luna?” I blinked.
“Why are you bringing up Luna?” He frowned.
“Eh? Why? Because isn’t that so?” I was taken back.
“It’s not.” He sighed exasperated.
“Then… If you are fine with me. I’ll be happy to take on your offer.” I smiled. ~”~
The day before the ball. The girls agree to meet up again in Tifa’s house right after school. They are going to match the dress they’ve bought with their accessories. “Hm? [Name], where’s your dress?” Luna asked.
“Ah, I don’t have one I was sure I am going alone, so I didn’t buy dress. I am going to wear school uniform. The rule didn’t specifically say the dress code is an evening dress.” I smiled sheepishly.
“School…” (Stella)
“Uni…” (Aerith)
“…form” (Tifa)
“You said?!” (Luna)
“Huh? Isn’t Noctis escorting you?” Yuffie blinked.
“He did two days ago. It’s just, I don’t have time to pick up dress. So, I am going to wear school uniform.” I nodded.
“Change of plan.” Stella said seriously.
“Yes. We have a change of plan.” Luna agreed.
“Huh?” I blinked.
“We are going to shop for your dress right now.” Aerith smiled.
“Eh? Right now. We don’t have that much time…anymore.” I finished timidly, seeing their scary smiles.
“Sorry [Name}. Even I can’t help you.” Yuffie said. ~”~
At last, the most dreaded day that I wish never come is finally here. 28th December, that means the winter ball. ‘Why it has to be a ballroom, can we just change to more casual party?’ I groaned.
“[Name], you shouldn’t put that kind of face. You are the prince’s date, are you not?” Zack teased.
“The said prince has the same opinion as me.” I said unamused. The girls and the boys wear a matching color, including Noct and I. Apparently, Luna called Noct and asked, no demanded him to wear a cobalt blue suit, so he can match with my dress.
The hall is decorated just like a real ballroom. There are also snacks and drinks there. Once we enter the hall, Reno instantly flies to the other side of the hall sweet talking to a group of girls. The others asked their dates to dance with them. Being a gentleman he is, our favourite prince also asks me to dance. “I can’t dance.” I smiled wryly.
“Don’t worry. Just follow my lead. Waltz is an easy dance.” He said taking my hand. We dance peacefully until someone with the name of Tachibana Kirika ruins it.
“Noctis dear~” She called with such coquettish voice that it actually made me had a goosebumps. “I am sure I can be a better partner than this plain looking girl.” Tachibana-san winked at him.
“Sorry if I am plain looking. At least, you should learn how to wear a proper make up. The color doesn’t suit you.” I rolled my eyes.
“No, thank you.” He refused politely.
But that sets Tachibana-san in rage. “Exactly what did you see in this girl?” She screeched and pointed her finger to me. “I am prettier and a ton of guys asked me to be their date.” She yelled.
Noctis narrows his eyes. “Then, you can have them to accompany you. Listen, I am tired of your antics. Don’t you dare badmouth her! The next time you do so, I won’t forgive you!” Noctis snapped. Then, Noct storms out from the hall, leaving the said girl there standing dumbfounded and biting her fingernail.
‘Wow, this is the first time I see him angry.’ I too, quietly leaving the hall searching for my partner.
“So, you are here.” I said after I found him on the rooftop. He only stands there unmoving. “Still angry?” I asked.
“Not anymore.” He answered.
“I doubt she will stalk you after your outburst just now.” I laughed.
“She better be.” He let out a snort.
“Hey, Noct.”
“Hm?”
“What was the meaning of the word carved in the golden watch?” I asked as I took out the watch from my dress’ small pocket.
“Are you curious about that?” He asked.
“Very.” Was my answer.
“That is-” He walked closer to me without breaking the eye contact. He stands right in front of me, making me wait with bated breath. He bends down so his mouth right beside my ear, and whispers softly. “Eternal bond.” After saying that, he stood straight. A small smile on his lip, satisfied with my now blushing face.
“You-! Can just say it normally.” I glared at him. The futile glare only makes him smiles. He pulls me toward him. “Wha-” I blinked rapidly as he pressed his lips to mine.
‘Unable to process. [Name].exe crashed.’
I suddenly wake up from my nap and look at my surrounding. I am in my room, the same room before all of that happen, my workbook is still on my desk untouched. “I see, that was a dream after all.” I said disappointed. I blush again remembering the last part of the dream. “What an outrageous dream I had.” I sweatdropped. I put my finger on my lips as if I can still feel the warmth.
“[Name], you idiot. That was just a dream.” I scolded myself. “Rather than thinking about it, I should take a bath.” I mumbled walking to the bathroom. Unbeknown to me there are a ring necklace with my name and a golden watch with its lid opened on my desk.
“Our bond is eternal”

Please tell me I’m not the only one who noticed this? Like, I’m imagining the chara design meeting to go something like...
Soo, cyberpunk is getting popular (this being before a certain fiasco), and the most popular anime cyberpunk is Ghost in the Shell! And most popular of GitS is Stand Alone Complex! Lets have SAC Kusanagi but make her black for brownie points!
Yeah, and around the time this is announced wont the FFVII:Remake do something with Yuffie Kisaragi? Lets have her as well but make her a redhead to make it less obvious!
Hm, we need more... what else is popular among the kids these days that can make sense in Atlas’ frozen wasteland?
EDIT: Also, they named the game Arrowfell! When the next Elder Scrolls game (Skyrim’s sequel) will likely be named Hammerfell!

Of Zack Fair, Genesis Rhapsodos and the strange narrative POV of FFVII-Crisis Core (Part IIIa)
Part I: https://buffaloborgine.tumblr.com/post/650462647672766464/of-zack-fair-genesis-rhapsodos-and-the-strange
Part II conclusion: https://buffaloborgine.tumblr.com/post/653809930861674496/of-zack-fair-genesis-rhapsodos-and-the-strange
_______________________________________________
Warning: Sincerely, this part takes on a very controversial route. Please read the previous parts first before reading further on this part. (I did have the link to part I in case you are new reader)
Also, please keep an open mind when you read this. I appreciate any kind of discussion about theories, but please, try to keep your bias out when we discuss on an objective subject. Thank you.
_________________________________________
Before we get to the main problem of this part, let me introduce you to a term that maybe you have heard somewhere before: the Rashoumon effect.
Tumblr media
The Rashomon effect is a term related to the notorious unreliability of eyewitnesses. It describes a situation in which an event is given contradictory interpretations or descriptions by the individuals involved.
This is a kind of effect that is used very frequently in detective stuffs, as a way to fool the audiences, driving them away from the main problem, the objective truth.
Why am I telling you about this? Well, in many Japanese stuffs, ranging from movies, books to games, no matter what the genre is, the Rashoumon effect is utilized to create plot twists. And of course Rashoumon effect is also used in FFVII as well.
Take one example, the Deepground incident in Dirge of Cerberus. While Vincent and the WRO believed that Weiss is the one leading Deepground at that time, and we don’t even get to know the truth that Nero is the real leader of Deepground until Vincent and Yuffie finally barged in the throne hall in Reactor 0. It’s just one of the clearest example of the Rashoumon effect in FFVII. And if you have read the other parts of this theory series, you may see the pattern of Rashoumon effect in both events that I have pointed out: the Genesis’s parents’ grave and the Seven Wonders.
So, let’s move onto our main problem this time.
_________________________________________
The Mails (a).
One of the strangest systems that occurred in Crisis Core, is the mail system,
Zack can access the mails through his phone, along with many other systems like Materia Fusion, Equipment, Shop, DMW, Mission and some others.
Problem with the Mails is that, reading one mail from one person may give you a contradictive information to the info you took from the mail of another person, and it even contradicts with the details you discovered in places around the game. Because mails are written according to the view point of the writers, will get confused with many info that the mails provide.
However the worst problem with the mails is that Zack only receives the mails, he never answers them. We never see Zack point of view in this, which in turn, forcing us to use our own point of view to examine the information given by the mails.
Here, I want to discuss the reliability of one of the most well-known CC mails: the 1sts’ fanclubs’ mails.
Keepers of Honor
Fanclub of Angeal, the group releases mails that provide “unauthorized” info about Angeal’s profile. While there is not much to take from the mails of Keeper of Honor, there is one particular mail we have to look into.
“Angeal Fan Club Newsletter 313
Today's update features a conversation between Angeal and Genesis.
G: You'd better do something about those plants in your room.
A: Those plants represent nature. Some of us converse with nature to hone our spirit and honor.
G: And some of us are getting bugs in our rooms because of those blasted things.
A: Come on. Don't you remember? We used to have bugs in our rooms all the time when we were kids.
G: That's why I hate them. And the past? It can stay there. We're in Midgar. We're not supposed to have nature here.
City-born Genesis, and nature-lover Angeal: so completely different, yet friends all the same.”
Just when Zack came to Fort Tamblin with Angeal, Angeal told Zack about the dumbapple. And one those lines is:
Tumblr media
Angeal confirmed that Genesis, his childhood friend grew up with him in Banora. But in the mail above, the Keeper of Honor believes that Genesis is “city-born”. Although the word itself can be understood in two ways, one is “born in the city” and the other is “having city life style”, if you first read into it, you will immediately think that they mean Genesis is born in the city, which is not true, the other meaning may fit with the situation more, perhaps? So we could agree with them that Angeal loves nature and Genesis has a city lifestyle, thus, Genesis gets annoyed with nature, right?
Guess what? When Zack found out Genesis’s diary, the info may get contradictive.
Tumblr media
Consider the fact that Genesis won an award for inventing the Banora White Apple juice, it means that he has to have a great love for nature, especially the apple trees and the fruit to actually spend time to invent the juice.
This info and Angeal’s confirmation contradict with the info given by the mail from Keeper of Honor. This means the fanclubs’ mails themselves are just sources with medium reliability, especially when the fanclub of one person wrote about a different person in the trio. Besides, the event described in the fanclubs’ mails may not even exist, because in Keeper of Honor’s mails, those are “unauthorized” Angeal’s profile.
In conclusion, by not showing Zack’s replies to the mails to the players, Crisis Core forced the players to check the reliability of the mails given to Zack through their own perception, not everything written in the mails are true because they are affected by the POV and biases of the ones giving them out.
I think that’s enough for the beginning of this part, we will continue on the other ambiguous mails in the next parts. Thanks for coming to my Ted-Talk and have a nice day.

Hypocratic Oath
(Featuring doctor/researcher!Cloud)
Cloud was 8 when he first found the library in the Nibelheim Mansion.
Through his childhood, Cloud often stayed in the mansion. Hiding from bullies, staying the day to pass time, or just simply to explore. No one would bother him here. All the kids think the place haunted, and all the adults fear it just as much. It made the perfect place to relax or hide.
Cloud thought he had already seen every nook and crany in the mansion. But was surprised when he found a library full of scientific text. It's doors made to look like any other wall, making it hard to spot.
There arent much books in Nibelheim. There's a library in the school, but it can more accurately be described as a classroom full of books instead of a proper library. And it's not like the custodian would let him in.
So as soon as Cloud entered, he immediately started reading.
At first, Cloud was very confused. He had a very limited understanding and comprehension of the text. But even from the little information he was able to gather, he was able to piece together the horrifying things ShinRa has done.
It spooked him so much, it took him a full week till he decided to read more.
He read them all. Project S, Jenova, and Sephiroth.
At that time, Cloud didn't know who this Sephiroth is. All he knows is that he must have led a painfull life.
-------
Cloud was 10 when he first saw Sephiroth on the television.
A general leading a war.... A fourteen year old general.
His eyes widened and his jaw dropped. Cloud's mother immediately noticed this.
"Cloudy you look pale, are you ok?" Claudia stroked her son's forehead, looking for any sign of fever.
"Y-yeah I'm good" Cloud managed to hide his shock.
"Really?"
"Yes ma. Really"
That night, Cloud thought of how it must have felt. His mother is warm and kind, he'd feel lonely without her. He wondered if Sephiroth felt any semblance of kindness or tenderness in his life.
The very next morning, he immediately raced to the mansion to find more. To find answers.
He found his answers in the form of Vincent Valentine.
He almost quite literally fell on him.
The man loomed over Cloud. His glowing red eyes and equally blood red cape screamed 'vampire'. And Cloud was rightly frightened so.
"What are you doing here child?" The man said with a glare.
"T-the library! Sephiroth- I mean-"
"What do you know about Sephiroth?" The man demanded.
Cloud stiffened both in fear and surprise. His face draining of color. The tall man seemed to notice this, and slowly crouched down to Cloud's level, now attempting to look non threatening.
"I'm sorry if I scared you, but can you tell me about Sephiroth?" The man asked kindly.
Cloud only nodded, his fear slowly evaporating. "I can show you the library" he said quietly.
"Take me there? Please?" The man asked almost desperately.
Cloud just nodded again, and took the stranger by his hand and led him to the hole he fell in.
Vincent looked at the child. How curious that this kid would choose to guide him by his misshapen hand.
"I'm Cloud. Cloud Strife" the child said in a shy tone.
"Vincent Valentine"
The child's small smile made him think there's hope for him yet.
---------------
Years passed and Cloud and Vincent's friendship grew.
Vincent was able to teach Cloud a number of things. He helped him comprehend the numerous scientific texts in the library, and even taught him about science and self-defence.
Vincent also helped distinguish truth from lie.
Cloud learned the truth of Sephiroth's true mother. How a scientist named Hojo betrayed them, and what he did to Vincent. In turn, Cloud told Vincent about Sephiroth's role as general, frequently updating him on the situation in Wutai. And sometimes bringing him home cooked meals.
With Vincent's tutoring and the library's numerous texts, Cloud grew smarter. He read because of curiousity. But now read to learn. This brought him to the top of his class, sparking an interest in biology and science. Though this didn't change the town's view on the Strifes.
His Ma, on the other hand, felt proud. And so did he.
-----
Cloud was 14 when he decided to go to Midgar.
Not to be a SOLDIER, no. But to be a Doctor.
After learning all those things about how SOLDIER was made, he couldn't stomach possibly being one.
It was a week after his birthday that he decided he'd help Vincent in any way he can. At first, Vincent disagreed. Saying it'll be dangerous, and that he'd be safer away from him. But Cloud is stubborn and fierce. There's a reason they're called Strife.
So, after some reluctance, Vincent eventually agreed.
Cloud is but a child. He's abysmal at fighting, and his aim with a gun is barely passable. The Turks wont suit him, and neither will SOLDIER. The only thing he has is his intelligence.
So Cloud steeled himself, and made the decision to join ShinRa's Science Department. Bringing him closer to Hojo, and by extension, Sephiroth.
"Oh my little raincloud, I'm going to miss you!" Claudia hugged her son. Silently praying to Odin for a safe journey, and thanking him for blessing her with Cloud.
"I'll miss you too ma." Cloud said, hugging back. Who would have thought that his grades would be enough to grant him a ShinRa Science Program Scholarship.
With a wave goodbye to his mother, Cloud Strife set out into the harsh world.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
"Professor Hojo, the President want's to see you" Cloud said behind the man.
The greasy scientist only tisked. And angrily dumped his clip board on Cloud.
"Keep track of the the data. Do not take your eyes off the specimen" Hojo snapped.
Cloud held back a snarky remark and politely nodded instead.
He looked down into the enclosure. The creature thrashing around in it's own blood. Choking on the mako gas.
He only continued to record data.
-----
"I'm Zack Fair! SOLDIER extroidinaire!" The newest SOLDIER First Class saluted at Cloud. His cheery smile a stark contrast to the rubble behind him.
Cloud had headed out in civilian clothing hoping to meet up with Vincent and Aerith. (Aerith was scared of him at first, learning that he apparently worked for Hojo). But instead somehow got caught in an AVALANCHE explosion.
"Name's Cloud. Cloud Strife" He somehow was reminded of a puppy as he studied Zack.
"Oh! You're Aerith's friend!" Zack shook his hand enthusiastically.
"And you're her boyfriend"
"Yup."
"You know as her friend, I'm obligated to say: if you break her heart, I will break you"
"Yeah yeah I know the drill"
Cloud only smiled at the raven-haired puppy's antics.
------------
Two dark figures walked through the dark alleyways of the slums.
The smaller one knocked on the door of a closed bar.
"It's me"
The door opened and the pair walked in.
Both of them shedding their cloaks revealing two SOLDIER First Class.
"Ok he's here now explain" Zack sat on a stool facing the rest of the room.
Angeal and Genesis are there. So is Aerith and Vincent.
"Yes, do explain. As I recall, you two told me that you'd 'never show you faces' to me ever again." Sephritoh said, clearly hurt from Genesis and Angeal's defection.
"Seph, please wait-"
"I did my waiting Genesis! Now explain before I leave."
"They were dying" Vincent said from the corner of the room. "The J-cells they had were degrading"
"And how did you cure this? Even Hollander couldn't save them." Sephiroth asked suspiciously, still mad from the previous interaction. "Unless you asked Hojo"
"Before we do, we need to talk about Jenova-" Angeal was cut off by Sephiroth.
"We can do that later. Now answer my question."
Both Zack and Sephiroth looked at the group expectantly. There is weight to Sephiroth's words.
"I cured them" a voice from the door suddenly said.
"You" Sephiroth hissed.
"Cloud?" Zack gasped.
"I work for Hojo. I'm his primary assistant"
"What?" Zack tensed
"And you trust this man?" Sephiroth turned to Genesis and Angeal, gesturing to Cloud.
"Will you stop and listen!" Cloud snapped. "Listen here you pompous asshole, I risked my ass making you three that cure in Hojo's lab!"
"Wait three-"
"Yes, three. As in even Sephiroth needed one. So you better sit down and listen to what we have to say" Cloud growled, staring Sephiroth down. Daring him to say something.
As the silence permeated, Angeal cleared his throat, as if to ask permittion to continue.
"It started with Jenova"
------
They burned the Nibelheim reactor to the ground.
Sephiroth and Zack defected with Genesis, taking with them the rest of SOLDIER and a bulk of the infantry division.
They recruited Tifa on the way. Along with Yuffie -a Wutainese ninja, Cid - a pilot with a penchant for tea, and Nanaki -one of Hojo's specimens that Cloud helped escape, and AVALANCHE.
Cloud stayed in ShinRa as their spy.
But ever so often, he'd still meet with his friends just to chat or drink.
"Strife"
Cloud looked at Sephiroth questioningly. "What can I do for you?"
Sephiroth almost looked bashfull. His body language looked shy.
"I would-... I would like to thank you"
"For what"
"For...everything, I suppose" If the Silver General could blush, then he might have been now.
Cloud's breath hitched. "You're Welcome, General"
"Please, call me Sephiroth"
"Well then, call me Cloud. Sephiroth"
That day, Zack endlessly teased Sephiroth about his tiny smile.
---------
Cloud tended to Sephiroth's wounds. Careful to make sure it didn't hurt the man any more than necessary.
"You really need to take care of yourself"
"I'm fine"
Cloud sighed, "Sephiroth, you're still human. You need rest."
"After what Hojo did, I'm surprised you can still call me human" Sephiroth said bitterly.
Cloud grasped the man's shoulder, turning the general to face him.
"Sephiroth. Look at me" Cloud asked sternly. "You're as human as everyone as us"
"But-"
"Humanity isn't determined by your genetics, you know that" Cloud gently insisted.
"I-...Thank you" Sephiroth whispered, sounding broken.
That made Cloud realize how much Sephiroth must have wanted to hear that.
To hear confirmation of his humanity.
--------
It took several aching years till they finally took over ShinRa.
SOLDIER readily supported their generals, and the Turks soon defected after Veld and Vincent told them everything.
It didn't take long for Hojo to fall, and ShinRa to be taken over by Rufus.
Scarlett, Heidegger, Palmer, and even Hollander died. All of them officially coincidentally died of heart attacks. Confirmed by the new head of the Science Department himself.
"We finally did it huh?" Cloud leaned against Sephiroth's shoulders.
"Hmm, you think this will work?" Sephiroth moved to wrap his hands around Cloud.
"Well me and Reeve are working on alternate energy sources right now. It should be fine"
Sephiroth nuzzled Cloud's neck. "For now we should rest"
Cloud sighed into their embrace. "Yeah...we should"
(Loosely based on Professor Strife)

I’m sorry what?? “CA are the main couple because in all FF couples one of them dies” ? Aside from your post which clearly explain how they are very wrong, I can’t think but of myself when I first got to ffvii and how I believed CA also was the main couple, because everywhere I googled, and wherever there is EN explanation of the lore it was always CA, it took me finding your blog, having everything questioned, going for JP res to know everything I thought was a lie. Please go for JP res ppl!
From this ask
The so called info you found belongs to queen dumdum, who has spent a good decade or more infecting as many sources as she can with misinformation, lies and busted af headcanon with zero justification besides her say so. They recently attacked TV tropes with their bs, so nothing is safe from them.
And guess what? All that bs is from someone who never even played a single entry in final fantasy 7 or even watched any playthroughs besides a few cut scenes or gifs. I doubt she's even seen all of Advent Children.
She played kingdom hearts though which totally counts lmfao.
Bonus: Queen dumdum claimed Cloud and Aerith were childhood friends in kh, but it literally says in the kh2 walk through page for Cloud and Tifa (who are together on that page, while Aerith is several pages back with Cid, Yuffie and Squall) that they're childhood friends. And she says shit like this while also claiming being childhood friends is meaningless and that Cloud and Tifa aren't even childhood friends anyway.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do we see how the crazy happens? Yeah...
My recommendation is don't believe anything from strayarrows, astoryofalove or cloudxaerith since they're all the same person who makes busted takes like:
Cloud tells Aerith to keep her distance cause he “can’t control his sexual urges around her”
Cloud agrees with Hojo’s plan of forced impregnation because he doesn’t deny he’s a soldier.
Cloud confessed love to Aerith during “his” resolution.
Cloud had a “discrete arousal” and an “orgasam” at seeing Aerith in her red dress.
Cloud and Aerith are already dating because the composer of midnight rendezvous said the soundtrack reminds him of Christmas and has a romantic atmosphere.
Zack would “give Aerith to Cloud”.
Corneo put the coliseum matches on just so the crowd could see Cloud and Aerith together.
Cloud dances for Aerith.
Aerith will ride the Hardy Davidson with Cloud (this one has a diagram with it)
The blue alien on the wall market vending machine foreshadows Aerith having a baby with Cloud.
Aerith knows the future because it’s a timeloop and that’s why she’ll live this time to be with Cloud.
Aerith will ride the HW and Cloud will confess his love under it (yeah, they legit stole the HW scene cause they do that shit all the time.)
Okay? This is the person behind so much bad info. Just play the game, watch the film, read the books. Even without using a translation app to read any of the ultimania you can still tell just from the pictures that Cloud and Tifa are a couple. And for the ones that are translated into English, it's a sledgehammer of obvious to the face that Cloud and Tifa are a couple.
My rule is for everything you read from a "trust me", go find a legit untainted source from a book. That's why I provide the JP and English if I'm showing pages. And if I happen to run out of space for both I usually just post the JP, but if even that's not enough I'll happily provide any sources I've cited cause canon is canon and always comes with concrete references.

Birthdays and Promises
Okay! So this is my first work for @aerith-week I am happy with how it turned out and I just wanted to do a little something for the flower girl we all know and love! This is a Cloud/Aerith fic so please keep that in mind! I hope you guys enjoy it
Word count: 1744
Pairing: Cloud/Aerith (Kingdom Hearts)
Day 1: Happy Birthday Aerith!
Read on Ao3
Check out the beautiful fanart done by the equally beautiful @sammilimyy
How they were able to plan a birthday party for Aerith without her knowledge would remain a mystery to her. She wasn’t shocked that everyone was able to fit inside Merlin’s little cottage. He is an amazing wizard after all and if he could fit the entirety of his house in his bag, then expanding the cottage was child’s play to him.
There was no suspicion on her part when Sora, Riku, Kairi, and Naminé arrived, bags in tow, or when Leon sent her out in a hurry with a list of stuff to collect for tonight’s dinner.
“I don’t think some of this stuff even exists Leon.”
“The nephews have been getting some new product in their shops lately. I’m sure they’ll have what we need. And if not them, then try the Moogles.”
She left with a smile and her worn basket in hand but once she shut the door, she stared down at the list again perplexed at some of the items. Brushing off any doubt, Aerith left for the marketplace.
“Oh, you should get this one Aerith!”
“If you add this one to soup it makes it extra spicy!”
“This is good for when you have a cold!”
“Yes but is it from the list?”
“Don’t listen to the list, just take our advice Kupo!”
Shopping so far has been a disaster. Aerith was barely able to get four things from this list before she had to ask the Nephews and the Moogle for help. And that in turn, created an even bigger disaster. Some of the stuff they brought her she knew she didn’t need and yet they tried to convince her otherwise. She wasn’t annoyed, perplexed was the better fit. “Listen, this has been very helpful, but, I think I should get going.” The Nephews and Moogle stopped in their tracks. “I’ll let Leon and Yuffie know to just make whatever we have left over.”
“But you can’t leave yet! (Kupo!)” The four yelled at the same time, Moogle even going as far as to block the door of their shop.
“But why? If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you four are stalling?
“What does stalling mean?” Louie asked and was promptly hit in the back of the head by his two brothers. Aerith sighed and from the corner of her eye saw Kairi, Naminé, Olette, Xion, and Aqua all by the jewelry stand across the market. Other than wondering when Olette, Xion, and Aqua arrived, it wasn’t out of the normal. What threw Aerith off was that Cloud was with them shaking his head as the other girls held different products to her.
Aerith gave Moogle her list saying, “I’ll be right back; just help me find these things if you can.” Left the shop and went to the stand. Getting closer she saw that it was a beautiful jewelry stand the woman was selling things that Aerith had no idea could be found in Radiant Garden.
“Oh Aerith!” Kairi stepped in front of her and the other girls did the same, basically blocking Cloud from her view. “What are you doing here?”
“Leon sent me out to get some things for dinner. Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Moogle are helping me at the shop.” As she conversed with the girls, she looked up to see Cloud casually leaned against stall’s post, arms crossed and head down. The shopkeeper was miserably failing at hiding the smile on her face. Aerith went around the girls to Cloud. “Hey.”
“...Hey.” She and Cloud have been dating for a few months now but he still seemed to have that adorable blush on his face when she was around. Today however, it seemed that it was more pink than usual.
“So, what brings you to this jewelry stand?” Aerith was having fun. Anything that would make Cloud fluster made her smile. It was her favorite hobby.
“Uh...the girls. They dragged me.”
“Really? Then I must tip my hat to you ladies. You five managed to do something that I could never do.” Aerith turned to them with a small wink. “He hates to go shopping with me.”
“No!” Cloud grabbed her hand with both of his and held it close to him. “Don’t tell them that. You know that I love spending anytime I can with you.” Aerith hugged him and planted a small kiss on his cheek.
“I know. I just like messing with you.”
“AERITH!!!” The group looked back at the shop where the nephews were still waiting for her return.
“I’ll be right there!” She called back and sighed. “I feel like Leon is sending me on a wild goose chase for some of these things but I just don’t know why.”
“Don’t worry about it.” This time he gave her the kiss but it was closer to the corner of her mouth. Ready to go back to the mess that was her errands, Xion gave her another piece of paper.
“Another list!? Leon what more could you possibly need!”
“Actually this one is from Cid.” Any hope that Aerith had of coming home early flew out the window. When Cid sends anyone on a trip, they almost never come back at a decent time.
Not sure how she did it but somehow she managed to get what Leon needed and the parts Cid asked for. Moogle had ended up taking her second list to get a head start on it while she and the nephews took care of the first one. Basket filled with items she’s almost positive they will never use, Aerith approached Merlin’s house. Huh, that’s strange. The lights were off. But it actually wasn’t that late. Thanks to Moogle, she was able to arrive while the sun was barely visible over the horizon. Yuffie normally has all the lights going at this point.
She opened the door, “Cloud? Merlin?”
“Happy birthday Aerith!” When the lights came on, Aerith almost dropped her basket. Everyone was there to celebrate her birthday. Suddenly all of today’s antics make much more sense.
“I forgot today was my birthday.” She laughed as she dried the tears from her cheeks.
“How do you forget your own birthday?” Sora came over to give her a hug and the rest of the party followed suit. The last hug was from Tifa who lingered next to the b-day girl as everyone settled in.
“Did you seriously forget?”
“Yes! When Leon sent me out I genuinely thought it was for groceries!”
“But didn’t you run into Sora and the others while you were out?”
“Yes, but I was so focused on the stupid list it didn’t seem out of the ordinary.”
Tifa gave a full belly laugh that Aerith joined in on. “Oh man, so you would have done nothing for your birthday? It’s a good thing Cloud planned this then.”
Aerith paused for just a moment, “C-cloud planned all this?”
“Oh yeah, when he asked you if you were doing anything on the seventh and you said no, he got a phone, everyone’s number. We all helped but Cloud was pretty much in charge of everything.” Aerith didn’t think Cloud would want to do all of this for her. She assumed that it was Sora, Ventus, or Yuffie who planned everything. But know that she knew it was Cloud; that just made the evening all the more special.
The rest of the night was amazing. Cid cooked the food (and used some of the ingredients Aerith bought, at her request) and Xion, Roxas, and Lea made the cake. Merlin sat her down to open the presents everyone brought. People sang and danced and took photos of today's events but Aerith knew that this would be a night she would never forget. As it got closer to the end of the night, Cloud approached her.
“Can we talk?” The party had settled down now and people were just relaxing and holding conversations. Aerith could see that Cloud was nervous so she led him to the stairs that opened to the roof of the house where they could be alone. Both of them sat comfortably looking at the night sky.
“Did you like the party?” He was less nervous now that they were by themselves.
“Yes, I loved it. Thank you for planning this.” Cloud stuttered at her response and Aerith laughed. “Tifa told me, said you got a phone and everything.”
“Yeah well, Chip and Dale have been wanting me to get one for a while now so…” They sat there in silence for a bit longer. Someone inside put on some soft music and it could be heard by them above. Aerith scooted closer to Cloud so that their hands touched. Cloud responded by holding her hand in his.
“Soooo, tell me. What were you really doing at the stand today?”
He was quiet and then said, “I wasn’t lying when I said the girls took me. I didn’t forget about your gift. I just wasn’t sure what to get you. That’s when Olette and Xion told me about the jewelry stand in the market and they all took me to get you something. We didn’t expect you to still be in the Nephew’s shop.” Cloud took a deep breath before reaching into his pocket and gave her a small gift. The paper had beautiful roses on it and a yellow bow. Aerith looked from him to the box a few times before opening it. Inside was a velvet box that contained a thin, band rose gold ring. Parts of the band seemed to branch off to look like tiny leaves. Said leaves were made of a type of gem.
“Cloud...this-this is-”
“It’s not an engagement ring. I don’t think we’ve been together long enough for us to take that step. But, this can be something like that. I guess, if you don’t like it the-”
Aerith cut him off by giving him a kiss. With her free hand she turned him to her and leaned forward. Cloud was taken back but eventually held Aerith only letting go when she stopped.
“I think it’s beautiful. I knew it wasn’t an engagement ring but that doesn’t mean it holds any less value in my eyes.” She slipped the ring on the left ring finger. it glimmered in the moonlight beautifully. Aerith leaned into him and Cloud held her.
“I love you Aerith, happy birthday.”
“Thank you Cloud, I love you too.”

Alternative — Protagonist Kairi, Part II
DISCLAIMER: This is a "What If?" scenario exploring a story where Kairi is the protagonist of Kingdom Hearts. There are major and minor differences from the series. This is simply my vision. You may consider this an AU fanfic.
TRAVERSE TOWN V — Kairi As Kairi sleeps, she has a dream about her, Sora, and Riku when they were kids. She chases after them and calls their names as they race into the sunset. All she can see is their backs, and Riku's silver hair blowing in the wind. Their childish laughter echoes above the sloshing waves and wind pushing against the shore. She struggles to keep up, stumbling in the thick sand. She trips over a rock and falls face first into the sand. When she gets up, she sees them getting further away from her. She panics and reaches her hand out. “No! Wait! Hold on! Please!” she shouts as their bodies turn to faint silhouettes. "No…come back" she shouts, on the verge of tears. Their silhouettes become smaller and fainter, and eventually they’re engulfed by the vibrant sunset. Kairi drops her hand and quietly cries. “Don't...don't leave me”. The sunset disappears.
Kairi awakens from her dream with tears streaming down her face. She looks to the side and sees Yuffie standing over her, surprised. “Who...who are you? And where…” she asks then looks around, her eyes setting her eyes on Squall. Looking at the scratches and bruises on his arms and face, she asks “What happened? How did you get hurt? I didn't —” and he cuts her off. “That has nothing to do with you. What's important is that you're awake now. We have some stuff to brief you on, so I'd appreciate it if you get up and get your head straight”. Kairi squeezes her right hand and notices her keyblade isn't there. She quickly sits up, glares at him, then asks “Where's my keyblade? Did you take it from me?”. He assures her that its safe and in her possession. Shortly after he knocked her out, her keyblade returned to her heart.
He explains that keyblades are products of the heart, and they come from within a person’s heart. “Think of them as physical manifestations of the heart, only they're weapons. In a way, they serve as the protectors of their wielders. Threats can come in any shape or form: magic, darkness, light, or whatever else exists out there. Their purpose is to strike down those threats” he explains. “It's a perfect deterrent for the Heartless, and the rest of the dark creatures that lurk in the shadows. You had the unfortunate pleasure of crossing them earlier”. He continues, “Although keyblades posses unimaginable power, it's that power that draws in the Heartless. They might be afraid of keyblades, but that won't stop them from tearing you to shreds and devouring your heart. It's just in their nature”.
Kairi asks how she was able to obtain a keyblade. Squall replies that it chose her, then further explains. “Most keyblades lie dormant deep within someone's heart until something triggers their emergence. It could be a life-or-death situation, or it could be as simple as getting pissed off”. He briefly pauses then continues, “Then, there are keyblades that choose their masters. The one you have chose you, though I can't for the life of me understand why. Of all people, it chose a frail girl as it's master”. Kairi tells him she never asked for the keyblade and he replies “It doesn’t matter. Once you’re chosen that’s it. You’re stuck with it. They’re stubborn like that”.

Can we get more instances of Sephiroth being obsessed with Animal Crossing across the KH/FF timelines?
Sephiroth: *beams down into Hollow Bastion*
Sora:What the- wait. Long silver hair and a longer sword? You’re the guy Cloud mentioned!
Sephiroth:Ah yes, Cloud. Tell me..... *moves slowly*
Sora:*summons keyblade* grrr!
Sephiroth:*pulls out switch* Do you know his island code?
Sora:.....what?
Sephiroth:In Animal Crossing. Do you know it?
Sora:Uhh, no. I don’t own a switch.
Sephiroth:Hmph, what a shame. *teleports away*
Donald:What was that all about?
Sora:Got me Donald.
xxxx
[FF7R Spoilers]
Cloud:How are you even alive!?
Sephiroth:More importantly, how long have I been gone?
Cloud:I don’t know. A couple years or-
Sephiroth:Years? Hmm *pulls out switch*..... Cloud?
Cloud:Y-Yeah?
Sephiroth:So did you willing just let everything rot and my island fail? I told you to keep the promise land in good health.
Cloud:Why would I ever do you any favors!? You’ve ruined my life.
Sephiroth:So you took it out on my crops. I see. Guess I’ll just travel back in time.
Aerith:That’s cheating!
Sephiroth:It’s wise. This way you never fail. Events go the way I want.
Aerith:Everything about you is wrong. If you cheat in a game that’s meant to be a slow pace then you don’t deserve any bells or turnips!
One Wing Angel intensifies
*Sephiroth will remember this*
Cloud:You had to say something.
Sephiroth:Seven seconds to tell me your island code. Please give me the pleasure of taking it away.
Aerith:Fight me for it.
Sephiroth: *casting meteo-*
Tifa:I’ll trade with you if you stop.
Sephiroth:...Destiny smiles on you today. *fades away*
Aerith:Tifa!?
Tifa:What? We’ve had a long day. I’m not dealing with him if I don’t have to.
xxxx
[One day]
Sephiroth:*pulls out switch* Turnip prices?
Yuffie:....*pulls out switch* 700 bells a turnip.
Sephiroth:Finally, someone to trade with.
Yuffie:Oops! Reset happened. Let me just roll back the clock real quick.
Sephiroth:(You know , Wutai can live.)

Okay, so fuck it, we ball. I started my replay of FF7R. Specifically the Intergrade version, so I'll get to see Yuffie this time, which I did not, on my first playthrough.
I have not quite gotten back to Sector 7 yet, but I'm on the train there, having reconnected with AVALANCHE after meeting Aerith. And I'm probably gonna do a little more tonight, since--for the first time in a while--I have nothing particularly pressing to do tomorrow.
My first thought is to really wonder at the experience of someone playing this who is not familiar with the original game. It seems like it would be bewildering. Or at least, wouldn't have quite the same impact. And I'm thinking about Sephiroth in particular, when I say that.
In the original game, you hear whispers of him for a while, but he does not actually appear until the death of President Shinra. And when he finally does show up, you find him by following a trail of blood (which, IIRC, this game doesn't do? I remember being disappointed by that). His introduction here is sinister in kind of a theatrical way, but it... I dunno, it doesn't feel as menacing. He doesn't emerge from the story, he's just there, at the heart of it from the beginning. So like.. how intriguing is that mystery, if you don't already know the answer? How does he land as an antagonist? I can't tell.
Although, it's clear this was designed with the original audience in mind, which is part of why adds the story dimension that it does. I forget exactly how that works, though. I was kind of caught up in the experience the first time (that opening cutscene got me again), but this time I think I can think about it more critically, so I'm looking forward to that. So far, in that vein, I'm intrigued. The whole thing with Nibelheim being introduced as early as it is (like, right when Cloud gets off the train, I think) and then Sephiroth showing up is already cuing me up for the fact that this story is doing something very different. And then with this new introduction, it suddenly actually becomes a different story. And it's connected to Aerith. He didn't see them until he touched her. How is it going to follow through with that across... certainly at least both these two games, if not the third? (I'm very excited to get to Rebirth. I haven't looked into it at all. No idea what happens there. Don't ruin that for me, please.) How far afield are we going to get, here? What's sacred?
I'm interested in the ways they're fleshing out the Avalanche team, especially Barrett and Jessie. Barrett has a difficult vibe to nail--he's like a really aggressive hippie, peace and war kind of raging inside him, and it seems like they're doing that well. His "I got you" speech actually did get me a little.
Jessie, I feel, is more complicated. Her open flirtatiousness with Cloud, given that I know how that ends, how they choose to use the fact that she kind of makes you like her, very actively. And the original game... just wasn't that nuanced. Especially when I first played it, I was not the kind of audience that focused on the emotional/relationship/touchy-feely part of the story, and you didn't really have to because the storytelling itself was less sophisticated than this is capable of being. So I don't really know how I feel about that dimension of it. But I am very aware that I'm being emotionally manipulated and I'm curious to see how that pays off in the end, you know? Like, what story they choose to pull out of what I remember.
Gameplay wise, I'm still kind of reminding myself that this is neither an open-world game, nor a Soulslike. It's not hiding from me--the best way to experience it is just ride it. And also, it's not that hard. (At least not yet--I remember the endgame being a little more frustrating.) I do like how they're scaling the combat. Simple enemies that orient you with the fundamentals first, then they throw the party system at you and let you get used to that for a second, then a boss fight to see if you can handle that, and then more complex enemy types that you actually have to move around and strategize for. It all feels very smooth. Buttery, even.
It feels nice to sink my teeth into something fun.
