Waow is that some Restart AU?

Context (since I scarcely post Restart AU): New game plus with Narinder as the player character in a different timeline/universe because he doesn't want to rule his dying one

In this doodlecomic, Narinder gets temporarily cursed with blindness after defeating Leshy, almost as if to make him experience and reflect upon what his brother endured for years. Even if he's a different Narinder who experienced a different dynamic with his old timeline's siblings. And this happens with each Bishop he defeats. Imagine Narinder wanting to talk shit but coughing up blood. Or him getting jumpscared constantly since he can't hear anything. Or him [redacted for dark humor]. Turns out I posted some doodles/wrote things on the convo and idea ages ago too? gross old drawings

For those unable to see the pictures and in case my handwriting is too squished/it's unclear where it belongs in each panel, I've included the script below (and ah shit included a redone scriptsnippet of Narinder and Allani's first meeting in the new timeline):

An aside, the line "Reveal yourself!" might be a callback to their first meeting where she approaches from behind with a weapon? Or at least I like to think so:

Allani: (approaches Narinder from behind, spear pointed at his back) Stop! You intrude upon the soil blessed by The One Below. Who are you? Narinder: (wearing his hood) Hmf! I am no enemy. Allani: (presses spear into his back) How can I know when I can't even see your face? Reveal yourself! Narinder: (pulls back hood and looks over his shoulder at her) You gaze upon the God of Death, foolish lamb. Consider yourself fortunate that I feel merciful today. (he turns and pushes the spear away, drawing himself to his full height in an attempt to intimidate her) Allani: (laughs, incredulous of his claim) The God of Death? Hah! i haven't been around long enough i don't think- can i ask for a summary of moonstained? who is ayla?

yeah, sure! especially since the last time i posted a summary, it was pre-editing so things are a bit different now. whee! thank you for asking ^_^

moonstained is, long story short, a three part series following the POVs of 4 different characters:

casey, a wolf shifter who lives a relatively normal and even boring life until he is nearly killed by a poacher on his way home from work

pruitt, casey's eventual partner and son of a black market dealer (i.e., serial killer) who kills shifters/hires people to do so (YIKES)

ayla, casey's transgender twin sister who goes through a radical change after a significant traumatic experience in book two

and philomena, an also-transgender PA introduced in book one who has some serious chutzpah and falls in love with ayla while they're both stuck in an underground fighting ring, ayla as a fighter and philomena as an undercover medic. waow!

i still have a lot of building to do with the third book in particular, but i've written the first one and sent it off to a professional editor and got AMAZING feedback that i am currently a bit too intimidated to apply LOL so i'm trying to get back in the swing of even just infodumping about the story so i can reconnect with it.

i'll just do the prologue + chapter one of book one!

it begins with a prologue to introduce casey and ayla at age 17, when casey got bit by his friend's little sister after rudely antagonizing her and kind of Earning Retaliation (he was being awkward because he has a crush on the friend, and had no idea what to do with himself other than be a shithead teenage boy. oops!) and he goes to the doctor a few days later after Illness Sets In and gets a confirmation of his soon-to-happen transformation, which sends his stepmom into a RAGE where she wants to sue the friend's family. he freaks his shit because NO? and ayla comes to talk to him; she's currently closeted at this point, and doesn't look so healthy about it. casey is the only one who knows her real name and gender at this point, because she doesn't want to come out to their parents after they reacted Poorly to casey's bisexuality a few years prior. the two eventually agree that they'd be better off if ayla goes through this shifter thing WITH casey, so that he can't get ganged up on by their parents/doesn't have to be alone in it, and she gets to be in a different-different body for a little while sometimes and experience some kind of release even if she thinks she can't transition. it's a selfish suggestion from casey, of course, because her life is hard enough as it is, but she's pretty sure she would have come up with it anyway eventually, too, because they're in everything together.

fast forward a few years and casey works at a museum as a tour guide, and he's so BORED. he loves the job it's a fine job but he didn't get through college and he doesn't think he can advance in any way and generally doesn't have an idea for what he wants to do with his future on a larger scale. he feels sluggish and stagnated and dissatisfied for no real particular reason if you asked him why. but today, he doesn't feel any of that. today, he just feels Watched.

he has a pretty weird day but by the time he has to leave, he's kind of panicking. something just isn't right and he Knows It but he can't do anything About it other than try to go home. you'd think he might tell someone he feels terrified that something is going to happen? noooo of course not. he has a bit of a history of Not telling people things he should because he's convinced himself he won't be taken seriously (thanks mom and dad.) instead, he tries to take an alternative route home, but it doesn't go well and he ends up cornered in an alley by a gunman who insists he at least partially shift (without explaining why. WE know it's because he needs to prove this kid is a shifter so he can take him somewhere else and make him fully shift and then kill/skin him. but casey doesn't know that!) casey in his panic actually starts to let his hands shift into claws, but before anything else can happen:

OOPS! in comes another guy, slitting the gunman's throat!

casey gets grazed with a silver bullet while the struggle takes place and falls on his ass and just watches this happen and is absolutely piss terrified but when it's over and the new guy just starts calmly cleaning up, he is eventually noticed and the guy is like. okay. you can run now. like... go away. run? now please? bye?

and casey is like uhhhhh i don't think i can move!

conversation partially transpires, and before he knows it, he's helping to transport this body to the guy's truck so that he can dispose of it. mind you, they're in the middle of the city. there are Magics afoot here; a veil was thrown down to hide the alley from passersby, there's a charmed tarp that looks like a rolled up carpet to people who aren't paying attention, it's a whole Thing. this guy is Prepared. Why is he prepared. What Is Going On.

casey does not get an answer straight away! he just kind of floats his way to this inlet and they lug the body onto a boat and eventually the guy notices how out of it casey is and brings him to a clinic he can finally cut him loose at, where casey meets philomena and she heals his silver burn with magic. he calls ayla to come get him, but he doesn't tell her what happened.

for like a month.

nice going, casey! ya fucked it up! ya fucked up!!!! as usual.

I WILL STOP HERE but that was chapter one. eventually, casey does find the knife guy again (pruitt) and they strike up a tense but kind of sexually charged relationship that turns into a lot more emotionally intimate stuff as time goes on and he learns more about pruitt's (tortured) life, etc. still, a very unwise relationship, and it leads to some serious consequences by the end and into the next books. wuh oh!

Arcane Ramblings (spoilers!)

•I reallyyyy should’ve rewatched S1 before starting S2, oops.

•Whenever a song started playing, a common reaction I had was “hmm this sounds weird, I don’t like it” *1 minute later* “wait this actually sounds good, I love it!”

I think I enjoyed the second season’s music more than I did the first’s.

•I’m in love with Sevika. Why did she suddenly disappear for most of the season >:( And after getting a really hot haircut too!!

But actually I really liked her character arc, and uhh while I don’t excuse her being a cop, I think some people (mainly on the bird hellsite) are going a little too far with their hate for her.

•I feel like Arcane does a really good job of making graphic violence feel impactful and shocking.

•Oh so this is what people meant by “who hurt the Arcane writers?”

•I honestly did not think they were actually going to kill off the little girl, wow. I kind of wish we’d seen the immediate aftermath of it, with everyone’s reactions. I have some mixed feelings on it, on one hand I think it’s a development that makes sense with Isha’s character, on the other hand it kind of felt like a waste.

•I like Ekko/Jinx as a pairing, I think they’re really cute together. However, I wish their relationship had gotten more screentime, because unfortunately the pairing felt a little underdeveloped.

Actually Ekko in general needed more screentime :(

•I didn’t have much interest in CaitVi during the early part of the season, but sometime near the end I felt my interest in them as a pairing rekindle. Screamed (internally) with happiness when I got to the horny lesbian jail scene. Now show me the full version!! 👀

•You know, I was all like “I’m happy that CaitVi is a thing now but I hope Maddie isn’t hurt by it, she seemed really nice” and then this bitch—!!! I don’t know if her and Cait were in an actual relationship or if they were just sleeping together, but I do wish it had been built up more, to make her betrayal hit harder.

Also I couldn’t stop thinking about how much this scene felt like something that would’ve happened in a CaitVi fanfic lmao. Just a very sudden “actually, I’m evil” moment that screams Die For Our Ship.

•Ambessa and Victor were wonderful villains. Whatever problems I had with the season, I think both of them were written and handled really well.

•I didn’t care for Jayvik during the first season, in fact I really didn’t care for Jayce at all, but wow I really liked their relationship throughout this one. That final episode was beautiful.

•Me: of course Jinx isn’t going to die, she’s in LoL. *Jinx falls to her death* Me: o_O ???

Apparently(?) she is implied to be alive at the end, but wow I was really confused by that.

•Yeah the pacing this season was definitely a little odd.

•But honestly…… I didn’t think this season, and the ending, were that bad. It had flaws, but for me it was still an enjoyable ride.
