Hey, so… what’s up with the “here we, here we effing are” chant during Trees?

You do realize that song is from God’s perspective in the Garden of Eden, right? It’s about how saddened He is when His children ate the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, how He longs to be close with them again; but due to their own actions, He cannot. His holy presence simply cannot tolerate their sin, resulting in a permanent separation. The line “why won’t you speak//where I happen to be” especially… He knows exactly why they’re hiding, why they’re ashamed. But He still wants to talk with them, wants them to run to Him and confess their sin, because they are His children and He loves them

I think a big part of why Tyler wrote Trees is because he felt—and maybe still feels— like Adam and Eve. He’s running from God, he’s ashamed of his sin; maybe he wanted to try and understand how God felt then, to convince himself God still does love him
