Not sure what the actual term for it is (I'm reasonably sure it isn't actually 'standpoint epistemology') but the sort of people who make 'listen to [x] voices' the central principle of understanding politics seem to ten to be (unsurprisingly, I guess) just utterly vicious to people who share the identity but don't agree with them. Like to the same degree as the actual identified oppressors/natural enemies.
#it's 2am and I'm rambling#this post most directly inspired by seeing the way a few different big zionist blogs talk about Jewish Voice For Peace#but point generalizes imo#musing

Imagine looking at a character whose entire premise is that in every stage of his life, he's made every version of himself into someone that inspires people to such a degree that EVERY SINGLE VERSION OF HIM has people wanting to literally follow in his footsteps in some way or another.....
And coming to the conclusion that like.....the most important things about him are the sum of all his trappings. His entirely homemade developed from scratch could not exist if not for what he already was and brought with him BEFORE crafting this newest version of himself trappings, with his greatest trait throughout all of it being his adaptability; his ability and willingness to roll with the punches and not try to simply weather any opposition or changes to his life but instead reshape himself as needed to better fit INTO whatever new shape his life and the world around him takes. All while managing to carry the most innate, fundamental and necessary aspects of himself from one version to the next. Thus every single version of himself is different but simultaneously every single version of himself is also undeniably the same person.
The strength of this character, to me, will always be that he can be so many versions of himself, he can become so many things, all without ever actually losing or discarding any of the aspects of himself he considers most essential, the things he's not willing to lose or give up just to keep going. Finding that road not taken by most, usually because most never even think to look for it as an option. But one that he's always able to find because the one trick he's mastered in his tumultuous life is threading that needle of not just digging in his heels in an unproductive way but rather being selective about when and where he makes a stand and decides "this is not a thing I'm willing to compromise about" but here are places and ways I can and will change and evolve and adapt in order to make it possible for me to hold onto these parts and keep them as they are.
And that's why its always so mind-boggling to me that so many writers can't seem to think of anything else to do with Dick Grayson other than invent some new reason for him to just....not be that person, or to like just take the character whose most basic fundamental trait he's NOT about to compromise on is willingly giving up his spot in the driver's seat of his own life.....and make him just a passenger in his own life and stories.
Dick Grayson at age nine....at age nineteen...at age twenty nine....the one core thread running through all versions of him is the only way he's standing back and letting you call the shots for him or putting him on the sidelines in some way is over his dead body.
HOW he goes about that, what that looks like, who he becomes and what aspects of himself he plays up at some times and what traits he lets fall by the wayside at other times when they offer less in service to his primary goal here....that changes constantly. He changes constantly.
But those changes are almost always (or at least they used to be/should be IN MY OPINION) made with the intention of keeping certain things about him or his life as consistent as possible.
That's the duality of Dick Grayson that I'm here for. The inherent contradiction of him that COULD allow for endless conflict and breaking new narrative ground in all sorts of ways if mined properly:
His eternal willingness to compromise....but only ever in pursuit of doubling down on the ways he's not willing to compromise.
Forever walking that tightrope in ways that only a kid born and raised in a circus could ever hope to.
#see also: my grinding teeth when people disparage his circus origins#like the only thing its good for is colorful backstory and explaining his acrobatics#THERES. SO. MUCH. THERE.#theres so much EVERYWHERE in every aspect of his backstory and his preexisting comics and yet over and over we get#....what if we just ignored all that and did what the fuck ever as though this character has nothing integral to him or fundamental to say#to be fair my gripes with Taylor are not exactly interchangeable with my gripes with the previous runs#but I lump him in as an extension of them because while evocative of different SIDES of my ennui with these takes on Dick.....#the thing about Taylor's stuff to me (or the parts I read at least) is that its generic as hell while only retaining superficial elements#of Dick's character and stories in order to point to them and say see these are definitely about Dick Grayson. like....only in very surface#level ways. underneath that theyre basically generic superhero adventures that could easily be retooled to be about a pretty sizable number#of other characters. tbh with the whole alfred inheritance thing it honestly felt from the get go#that Taylor was more interested in writing a kinder gentler Batman like a Bruce from one of the animated shows like#The Brave and the Bold who gets along better with everyone else. even the way the Brave and the Bold largely exists to use Batman's#popularity as a star vehicle to platform his co-superhero for the episode lends itself to Taylor's approach in his NW run#with the central figure - only nominally DG imo - basically existing as a platform allowing for the drafting of any other character he want#to write in any given arc or story in a similar way to how Bruce is utilized in Brave and the Bold#anyway. idk idk. my issues with Taylor are not the same as the others exactly but also they are and also I just plain dont like the guy#so I complain about him at any given opportunity even when its not technically as accurate or relevant as it possibly could be#I Am Flawed. its fine though dont worry about it. its called being nuanced

Uhh post canon Barney
Man who has not had a break since the rescas and refuses to start now. Alyx and Gordon are hiding his gear as we speak while Kleiner distracts him.
I was sposed to do Alyx too but I blinked and it was 3 am so. Next time
Oh also I forgot to make a note but he does carry a sidearm
#no reposting#ok ramble time because i have some Thoughts#subject to change..#okay so like#Barney is a few things. imo. one he's s good leader and protector. two hes a creature of habit.#Barney has always kind of stuck in one area of work.. from security guard to civil protection officer to white forest sentry#hell even as a field commander during the uprising half of his combat is essentially point defense and backing Gordon up#which like yeah thats just gameplay stuff but this is an intentional reading of his character so just. shh#anyways#Barney never really stops being some kind of guard. the context in which he operates changes of course but its still the same general role#maybe its a subconscious attempt at maintaining normalcy. maybe its just all he feels hes good at. regardless its what he does.#and its what he continues to do.#that's what feels right to him thats whats natural to him so he might as well do it.#i think part of Barney's brain hasn't really caught up to the idea that things really are improving.#like he Knows it and he's happy about it but it doesn't feel natural after spending half of his life under the combine.#his body still thinks hes in danger#okay im eepy#half life fanart#barney calhoun#half life 2#half life furry au#half life

I should have touched on dark elves in my beauty standards post... Let me just slap this on here real quick. So as we went into there, beauty standards can show political dynamics and sort of reflects the politics of who get to be seen as human, who get to be seen as desirable and promoted within a society. So like, beauty is power right, in the sense that beauty standards are highly influenced by the ones in power, the ones who have the time & resources to look a certain way and the power to present that look as desirable to large groups. It’s complex and diverse but generally beauty standards are upheld by the elite, the influential.
By the former 'time & resources' thing I mean stuff like clothes, health, makeup or even cosmetic surgeries, or even simply the freedom to only go out in public when you look your best— Meanwhile the latter, the power to present that look as desirable to large groups, usually applies more to situations where it’s about a whole category of people like an ethnicity that was uplifted as the ideal. Not just in a political or economic dynamic, but discrimination on a systematic level without regard for individual appearance or action.
For example in the former, not all people who wear makeup are rich, and while makeup did historically help signal status, if you’re poor and wear nice makeup you can still touch some of that beneficial association with the beauty standards that makeup helps you attain. In the latter……. Well you get, "no, all elves are good! So the elves who do bad things must be something else!". Where, in trying to have uniform standards for a whole group, you kinda just get erased or othered if you don’t conform to expectations. The elves especially put effort into giving off this air of perfection, which they've successfully made tallmen populations believe. So, for those people, the answer that "But elves are inherently good and beautiful and perfect?" asks, isn't "well elves mustn't be inherently perfect", but instead is "there must be bad ones too, innately too." A similar phenomenon happens with the reverse too, where people will say there are "the good ones" within a group that's seen negatively.
"But Fumi, in this case the difference is purely linguistic and perceived, there’s no visual difference!" Yeah, and there being little visual distinction between two groups has never stopped people from being discriminated tbh. Different types of christians seeing each other as heathwbs for example, or the deep british vs irish hatred that has existed. A tidbit of history I find fascinating was the infamous use of "speak white" from english-speaking canadians against french-speaking canadians especially, because complicated history aside, last century as the business owners the anglophones had the power over the majoritarily francophone working class and a lot of political sway even though they were the minority in the Québec region. There’s a different cultural and ethnic identity there, and language was the most important difference between the two groups- and I suppose the most noticeable one.
The way we as social creatures and social groups categorize people and the groups they form is complex, interesting and very important to our society and the way we approach both the world and social interactions, and that's what leads to discrimination. We decide what’s important and then we decide it’s what people should be judged and distinguished by. Belonging to a group is a show of status, and can be a weaponized both ways, for and against. If you’re not worthy to be an elf, a "good" elf, then you’re not.
Interesting especially because looking at the elf portraits page there seems to be many different cultures within the elf race, so yes "good elf" vs "dark elf" is considered something like a race rather than an ethnicity or culture presumably. There's definitely a "main" elven culture since it seems pretty uniform whenever it's brought up in the adventurer's bible and the story, though, wether the differenr cultures form different communities in different places or live together as one nation. But maybe more treated like a mental illness since it’s acquired, or sometimes slang? It's not completely clear wether it's thought of as fully innate or something learned, a chosen moral failure like sin is, but with how they speak about it they do sound very essentialists, even Chilchuck seems to get a chill considering Marcille could be one. Quoting Kui's lore comic, "There are two kinds of elves, nice holy elves and evil elves bewitched by darkness". It’s just considered like an innate thing that separates them from the concept of elves... 🤔 But this sort of category being vague is often a feature and not a bug, because then they can be a boogeyman to bring up just whenever is convenient, that can fit whoever, like calling a kid a "fairy's child" for whatever behavior in the olden days, because if you don't precise a lot what a dark elf is then it can apply to whoever you see fit, and it doesn't need to be coherent or consistent. The sort of discrimination headspace that leads to the classic fascist "the enemy is both strong and weak" type rethoric.
"Dark elves" is interesting within Dunmeshi because it's about people trying to fully separate elves from the concept of bad and untrustworthy people, even though they look the same. "Elf" isn’t just a beauty standard, it is The ultimate ideal of perfection both in appearance and morality, and if something threatens that perception and reputation it has to get rationalized and compartmentalized. Those are coping mechanisms to avoid having your whole world view challenged or shattered. To tallmen who practically worship elves, it’s a huge deal!! To them that makes it make sense! Some elves are born good and some elves are born evil, simple as! No world view re-examination needed!
So for Marcille for example... It’s interesting because she has an outside view of elven society despite being elven herself. She was raised amongst tallmen, aka the people who idolize elves to this intense degree. It had to have affected her dynamics with others— not unlike the academy students, mostly gnomes and tallmen, who looked up to her as some natural-born genius, even though she did do research and study to get her skills and grades. It also had to affect her relationship with having a role model growing up (having none around except for her mother who pretty much renounced her elven culture, a novel series that sensationalizes and glamorizes elves), her dynamic with being elven itself, because even though she doesn't feel like she fully fits into it she's interested in elven culture, and she herself enforces the beauty standards around elves and acts elitist about it- as seen when tallmen actors playing Daltian Clan opera, when men are very masculine rather than very androgynous like with Laios, having long hair, having no facial or body hair. With this angle, all of this behavior of hers is very "internalized high standards that were my bible to follow growing up and so others must follow them too and these high standards must be worth upholding".
Considering everything, elves being looked up to as a role model in appearance and behavior, plus them having the reputation of being great at magic, and Marcille having grown up amongst mostly tallmen, we start understanding that there was IMMENSE pressure on Marcille to conform to that idea of an elf. She has a lot of pressure and a very high beauty & behavior compass to conform to. She also has an idealist and rigid sense of justice and morals, like how Namari is a heartless traitor for leaving instead of coming along to save Falin, and she needs people to believe she has noooo facial or body hair. She probably WAS afraid of being seen as a dark elf, aka fundamentally evil, for her dark magic research. You don't want to be a letdown, do you? You don't want to be the ugliest elf, do you? You don't want to be a dark elf, do you? You don't want to be one of the bad ones.
Shave your facial hair and deny you have any body hair. Take care of elven traditions like hair-braiding and have pride. Be the kind, smartest model student. Do magic by the book. Never do dark magic. Ah shit-
And so she hid the domain of her research, and so she hid being a half-elf.
#Beauty standards are a way to be seen as more human n worthy but so is performing a behavior. Like masking or showing parts of u#It’s all about performing your humanity n worth it’s alllll about belonging in a social group n being valued by it#Maybe that’s why i like sociopolitics hm. Marcille my beloved#Marcille Donato#Read Distant Utopia by Kui#dungeon meshi#Would it be comedically wrong if i tagged this bite sized fumi#kinda the reverse of model minority myth but with the same lived pressure#spoilers#dungeon meshi manga spoilers#you know. If you consider Marcille having reallyyy a hard time fitting in especially into the elven mold then her succubus being#her fav Dalclan character treating her like the novel protagonist- a girl who's a LONGLOST PRINCESS who was a noooble elf all along#and swept away to become part of elven society and important and cherished is very...... aughhhh yeah#i mention it often but imo the point of Mithrun looking exactly liek general Hareus is to show fantasy vs reality of like#the glamorized elven military in novels that Marcille grew up liking vs the real elven military that creatres such miserable shells of ppl#the very much not glamorized or likable Mithrun that's after her to kill her

Wild how we know that Elizabeth Woodville was officially appointed to royal councils in her own right during her husband’s reign and fortified the Tower of London in preparation of a siege while 8-months pregnant and had forces gathering at Westminster “in the queen’s name” in 1483 – only for NONE of these things to be even included, let alone explored, in the vast majority of scholarship and historical novels involving her.
#lol I don't remember writing this - I found it when I was searching for something else in my drafts. But it's 100% true so I had to post it.#elizabeth woodville#my post#Imo this is mainly because Elizabeth's negative historiography has always involved both vilification and diminishment in equal measure.#and because her brand of vilification (femme fatale; intriguer) suggests more indirect/“feminine” than legitimate/forceful types of power#It's still bizarre though-you'd think these would be some of the most famous & defining aspects of Elizabeth's life. But apparently not#I guess she only matters when it comes to marrying Edward and Promoting Her Family and scheming against Richard#There is very lacking interest in her beyond those things even in her traditionally negative depictions#And most of her “reassessments” tend to do diminish her so badly she's rendered utterly irrelevant and almost pathetic by the end of it#Even when some of these things *are* mentioned they're never truly emphasized as they should be.#See: her formal appointment in royal councils. It was highly unconventional + entirely unprecedented for queens in the 14th & 15th century#You'd think this would be incredibly important and highlighted when analyzing late medieval queenship in England but apparently not#Historians are more willing to straight-up INVENT positions & roles for so many other late medieval queens/king's mothers that didn't exist#(not getting into this right now it's too long...)#But somehow acknowledging and discussing Elizabeth's ACTUAL formally appointed role is too much for them I guess#She's either subsumed into the general vilification of her family (never mind that they were known as 'the queen's kin' to actual#contemporaries; they were defined by HER not the other way around) or she's rendered utterly insignificant by historians. Often both.#But at the end of the day her individual role and identity often overlooked or downplayed in both scenarios#and ofc I've said this before but - there has literally never been a proper reassessment of Elizabeth's role in 1483-85 TILL DATE#despite the fact that it's such a sensational and well-known time period in medieval England#This isn't even a Wars of the Roses thing. Both Margaret of Anjou and Margaret Beaufort have had multiple different reassessments#of their roles and positions during their respective crises/upheavals by now;#There is simply a distinct lack of interest in reassessing Elizabeth in a similar way and I think this needs to be acknowledged.#Speaking of which - there's also a persistent habit of analyzing her through the context of Margaret of Anjou or Elizabeth of York#(either as a parallel or a foil) rather than as a historical figure in HER OWN RIGHT#that's also too long to get into I just wanted to point it out because I hate it and I think it's utterly senseless#I've so much to say about how all of this affects her portrayal in historical fiction as well but that's going into a whole other tangent#ofc there are other things but these in particular *really* frustrate me#just felt like ranting a bit in the tags because these are all things that I want to individually discuss someday with proper posts...

The Untamed - Episode 11 - Episode 15
The woman had creamy skin and was rather beautiful, though her delicate features displayed some fierceness. The corners of her lips lay between a frown and a smile - she was a natural at sneering, just like Jiang Cheng. Her flowing purple robes wrapped around her thin waist. Both her face and her right hand, which rested on the hilt of her sword, were as cold as jade stone. A ring embellished with amethyst was worn on the index finger of her right hand.
Jiang Cheng smiled as he saw her, "Mom!"
The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation - Chapter 51- Courage- Part 1
Madam Yu stared at his face. Suddenly she embraced him and kissed his hair a few times. With him in her arms, she murmured, "Good boy."
She hugged him so tight that it seemed as if she wanted turn Jiang Cheng into a baby and stuff him back into her stomach, so that nobody could hurt him, nobody could tear them apart. Jiang Cheng had never been hugged by his mother like this, much less kissed. His head was buried in her chest but his eyes were wide open, not knowing what to do.
The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation- Chapter 58 - Poisons- Part 3
#It's about men loving their awful mothers#Also. Their relationship is SO IMPORTANT TO JC#madam yu taught jc that love comes with hurt and#that sometimes someone you love hurts badly your favorite person and you can still love and feel complicated about that person!#And this is going to shape jc's way to deal with wwx#Also. madam yu loves him *so much* )#But madam yu and jc aren't exactly close like jl and jc are. Which *gesture to mdzs* it's all about generational trauma and trying#to do better#I've so many feelings#jiang cheng#yu ziyuan#*mgifs#Out of the point. wcz's acting slaps#Uh. Should I cut the madam yu's description? It's maybe too long lol#Also. jc's problem is not 'lack of mother's love'. The problem imo is that the love is there. And it's a lot

The more I consider the "Smoky gets Frostpaw sterilized against her will" thing, the more I dislike it even on a thematic level...
This book seems to be trying to put Frostpaw through an arc of learning to trust people. Riverstar magically appears in her dreams to send her to the Park Cats who are meant to teach her this lesson, but... starting and resolving that arc more than halfway through the book was sloppy, and a waste.
Instead of Smoky forcing medical treatment on her in spite of how she tells him point blank "please no," SHE should have called for the human.
A creature that the Clan cats have never trusted, that they have great reason to fear. Caught between dying with her pride like a good warrior and taking a risk on the kindness of an unknowable beast, in spite of all the betrayal, she chooses the chance.
Play it like this; Make it so the reason she becomes chosen by Riverstar at all is because he SEES this glimmer of potential within her, because of this very choice.
Instead of that bizarre opening chapter where he seems to have magically gifted her some kind of spiritual connection as a plot device, INSTEAD make it that they were sadly overseeing the end of her life. That this was her destiny, to die as a young, proud warrior apprentice. To trust no cat, as her mother told her.
But instead, she tricks the wording of the self-fulfilling prophecy Curlfeather told her. It said nothing about trusting a human!
THEN follow it up with teaching her how to trust cats again. But make the road down this character arc be something she truly initiated, instead of the weird bullshit they did with her being mad at Smoky for violating her consent while also exonerating him for "Doing The Right Thing :)"
#Asc spoilers#Thunder spoilers#Like what was the point of having Smoky do that if they weren't going to do anything with his betrayal aggravating her--#--inability to trust people#Theyre obviously trying to set up an arc here about her learning to trust#But he forced medical treatment on her AGAINST HER WILL. When she COULDNT FIGHT BACK#In general though her flaw has been that she's been TOO trusting so this whole arc feels unnecessary imo#But if we must do it. Then set it up this way#Show that over and over. She chooses to trust. Sees the good in people#If anything the park cats should be focusing more on teaching her when NOT to trust. Like... judgement.#Judgement more than the question of trust itself.#But Smoky doing that was such a profoundly bad and uncomfortable idea imo#Give Frostpaw some agency?? Please???#Instead of just having God and other people constantly pushing her towards the next quest#Come on man

do you ever think about how Ohkubo extremely casually dropped the fact that Spirit & Kami were teen parents & then proceeded to never expound upon that fact or bring it up ever again despite it explaining a whole lot about them & Maka
#I think a big part of why I'm so attached to/interested in spirit as a character is because he objectively has A LOT going on in his life.#but because he was created to fill that stock pervy comedic-relief anime side-character archetype we never get to see any of it examined.#or even brought up at all for the most part#like spirit apparently comes from a long line of death weapons who despite having been loyal to lord death for generations are never ever#mentioned & who spirit himself never mentions despite carrying on the family tradition (although he's not unique in that regard tbh)#at 12-13 years old he becomes stein's weapon partner & in his own words it became “[spirit's] job to control [stein].”#another kid with a laundry list of mental health & behavioral issues that spirit probably wasn't super prepared to help “control”#(personally I think that this “job” of spirit's was a duty he took upon himself rather than something lord death necessarily told him to do)#then just ~5 years later he 1) loses/rejects said weapon partner & probably best friend after some really major boundaries were crossed#2) becomes a husband & father at just 18#(& in his own words a broke 18 year old at that. another point towards him not being in contact with any family if they're even alive)#3) becomes technically one of the most important people in the world once he ascends to being a death weapon.#not necessarily in that exact order but certainly in quick succession.#& then we fast forward to canon & spirit's at best a guy who drinks way more than he probably should & at worst a functioning alcoholic#who's only A MONTH into being divorced for his habitual infidelity & is in the really weird position of being the primary caretaker of his#daughter who (rightfully) hates him despite him having zero custodial rights over her.#& imo he seems to have no friends in death city before stein & the other death scythes return despite generally being a people person.#like. spirit is kind of the epitome of should've been at the club lmao#soul eater#spirit albarn#kami albarn#meta (kind of. not really lol)

right... okay. i'm considering something. sound off in the comments if this is a bad idea
#i'm thiiinking that after this finale + all the wild card ideas are posted i might take a break for a bit#at LEAST until finals are over. but probably until the end of the year#reset a bit y'know#i have 200+ asks in the inbox from *months* ago and i have GOT to find a way to post them all in a timely manner </3#but man is it hard to keep a daily queue going consistently#and also be funny consistently to make the posts good#hard to be funny when you're stressed with school + life dhfjsfs /lh#i LOVE this blog so much. but i think a few weeks of break would do me some good lol#and then maybe when it comes back i can post multiple asks a day to get through em faster too#i dunno. i'm just thinking about it#transitioning from one specific genre of posts to general asks again would be a good pause point imo#aaanyway. if i do this fr i'll make a more official post about it. but yeah <3#not a bad idea#admin

maybe it's just me but i found the optics of "abled man tells disabled man he shouldn't try to overcome the difficulties put in his way by a deeply ableist context and should just 🌈love himself🌈 instead" a bit weird ngl ((and i say that as someone who enjoys viktor and jayce equally i'm not a jayce hater))
#arcane#their arc needed like. a whole other season to develop properly tbh#felt incredibly rushed to me#i just find the “transhumanism bad it *necessarily* leads to evil cult leader eugenics” lazy at this point (and also bad philosophy)#the show's politics in general are super liberal but i'm not surprised by that#but the way viktor's plot in general is handled did disappoint me#from s1 with characters telling him he should stop whining and die while nobody but jayce rejects that#to s2 implying a collective conscience even if voluntarily obtained is creepy and evil#and then him jumping from “slightly ominous herald but so far morally ambiguous” to “supervillain going to kill everyone” within 5 minutes#it's just lazy writing. at least jayce's part of the plot is handled better imo#arcane season 2 spoilers

#doctor who#doctor who spoilers#people are saying dot and bubble isn't a criticism of tiktok and social media#and to them i would say#no sorry it actually is#it's just that what it's criticizing isn't so much ''lol tiktok is ruining society because dances and tide pods''#and more ''social media has become increasingly insular to the point where we forget to see outside of our own perspectives''#and also ''surounding yourself only with people who are like you and agree to perpetuate your status quo…#…even in spaces where difference is encouraged and celebrated is detrimental to you those around you and society in general actually''#which is also critiques one can make about white supremacism#and ignoring the criticisms the episode makes about social media#imo ignores a big part of the message rtd was trying to convey in this episode

actually. the specific phrasing that boy Kevin wants to kill older Kevin with "I must disassemble him, piece by piece, so that everything inside of the Old Kevin comes out. Only then can the New Kevin truly begin." is so incredibly the idea that to heal from trauma and "improve" you have to destroy every "wrong" part of yourself, that everything "tainted" by it has to somehow be replaced by something untouched (which isn't possible)
#reading back that phrasing I do think that'll be the way brinknor takes it#this arcs seeming like it'll be so. breaking the cycle of abuse and violence and coming to terms with yourself#and maybe understanding that you can never remove the parts of you impacted by trauma and start again completely ''pure''#but you can treat yourself with the kindness you should've been given#which i hope it is that because. and understand i am biased. but i'd love that direction for Kevin#it feels much more satisfying than any more. angsty way this arc could go imo#like he's been through enough!#because of the way Kevin is portrayed in fanon. not as frequently anymore but still pretty common. I worry about coming off as woobifying#by saying I want him to heal I want him to have nice things I think he deserves them#when he's also simultaneously Not A Good Person#yknow the poor little innocent cinnamon roll baby etc etc fanon#but. well for one im Not Like That about him. but my main point of bringing that up is. him not being a good person is why I want to see hi#get better and generally have a good life. why does someone have to be good to deserve to heal from trauma#especially when trauma is a big reason for the way they are#like its fiction yeah yeah i'm still tired of mentally ill people having to be ''good'' to ''deserve'' to get better yknow#i mean especially in fiction you tend to either see mental illness as the poor traumatized one who's allowed recovery because they're nice#or the insane psychopath who cant be ''fixed'' so ''deserves'' bad things-up to deserving to die!- for it#i didnt mean for this to be a rant erm. oops#wtnv#wtnv spoilers#joyousposting

stray homestuck2 thought: there's something about how jake likes blue ladies; and jane, who is coded blue, but chooses to wear red.
#lucabytetalks#homestuck#lucabytereads#still thinking on my avatar joke from yesterday and a discussion i had about jake's emasculation in the plot & how#ppl will staunchly call him Gay when hes one of the dudes in homestuck who most frequently does express some kind of attraction to women#whereas with dudes its like. seemingly mostly just dirk for him. and even thats oft coded with his 'well by jolly he is my good chum#after all and i would hate to see him upset!' same way he approaches his relationship with jane#since i dont think brain ghost dirk is exactly. well yeah hes clearly hung up on the man. but getting in ppls heads and defacto replacing#their internal monologues because He Knows Better is a Dirk Thing... like.. in GENERAL...#this is a messy and im sure not new observation its just idk. while i do think jake and grandpa have the potential to want to BE their#blue ladies and not just want them. i do think they also clearly do want them. its a bit weird that jake's dragging through#the absolute gutter of the narrative is so frequently pointed to as evidence of him being Exclusively Gay#like imo whatever that guy is under the trauma induced aromanticsm. inclduing maybe just actually aromantic. i think its gonna end up like#complicated in some way. hes clearly not just a guy who likes dudes in a clean cut manner...#anyway yeah his relationship to jane is genuinely an interesting addition to his character and i think is more interesting if its not just#Regular Comphet. its more. Recent posts have got me thinking, I wonder if people born in the Neath/post-fall are built a little different in general? It would make sense hypothetically considering they’d have never known like, the sun’s laws…
#zeeposting#FL is so weird sometimes because when you think about it#at this point there probably are a Lot of adults born in London post fall#like the captivating princess is what in her 40s?#there’s been like a whole generation down here but bc so much of the story tends to be focused on#1. people who came from the surface#2. old bastards#3. homies where none of this applies#it doesn’t come up as much as it should imo…. I should get into urchin lore
