This is the Vaults of Vaarn deluxe edition (2022), which collects material originally published in the first three Vaults of Vaarn zines by Leo Hunt. It is essentially a setting toolkit, but one that operates withing a set of clear aesthetic boundaries.

Vaarn is a post-human world — people are still around, but, they aren’t really recognizable as human anymore. The line between organics and machines is blurry. Ruined arcologies dot the desert. Petty gods and magic compete with science. It’s a very strange, very exciting world defined primarily through random tables that generate the things you find and the folks you encounter in the wasteland. The only conventionally firm details in the book accompany the character types (True-Kin, Synths, Newbeasts, Mycomorphs and Cacogen), some description of the city Gnomon and the handful of example adventure sites. Beyond those borders, Vaarn is infinitely mutable.

The game’s influences are quite focused, to the point that I feel like the era of the game is meant to be considered a late point on a timeline that includes the events of the Dune novels and Wolfe’s New Sun novels — there are archlictors and massive AI gods (all dead, thankfully) and other features that seem like direct references. There’s stuff firmly outside those novels too (what NPCs we encounter feel peculiarly Gormenghast-y; they are also accompanied by advice on how to run them as friends or villains, which is a nice feature).

Vaarn was conceived for Knave, but there is not a ton of system specific material here; you can honestly adapt it to just about any D&D-derived system, lite or otherwise. And you should! Vaarn is the most exciting world to come out of indie RPGs since the Ultraviolet Grasslands.

🍁🌺 KOUJAKU ESSAY 🌸❤

As I mentioned a while ago I started making a compilation of different symbolic elements in Koujaku’s design. I didn’t have planned to make it too long, simply pointing out the different elements, but to be honest it kind of got out of hand.

In summary, I also talk about some key points in his story, his personality, and his relationship with Aoba. I’ve tried to be as canon loyal as possible, but I also speculate when analyzing. I was also doubting if I should be including headcanons, but since I’m already doing speculation which is basically just headcanons, I thought why not.

One of the reasons I made this document was because I had a few KouAo comics I made for myself and wanted to have my references closeby and do some investigation, but after a little while compiling things I thought it would be exciting to share it with others, since I don’t talk to anyone due to shyness. I’d love to share this file slowly in my social media as well and know what you think about what I wrote here, you can let me know via DM, tumblr ask or my strawpage (although strawpage would be only for twitter and bluesky).

I have to add that I have no relation with Japanese culture or the religions referenced, so there can be wrong info. If you notice and you don’t mind telling me I’d love to correct it. Moreover, with this idea in mind my plan is to keep changing this file as needed, either adding or editing what’s being talked about here.

There are also quite several parts that I didn’t really had the intention to include because I thought they were too obvious and I honestly felt stupid explaining certain details, but the fact that I’ve seen more often than not people being dead serious about the most unhinged takes of his character I feel kind of obliged to over explain. There are probably other parts or ideas that I’ll repeat in several places, but it’s hard to avoid given the way that it’s organized. I also wasn’t sure if I should add some of the complaints and critiques I had about his character, or should I say NC (if I sound like I hate them, it’s because I do). I’m doing this out of love for this character and kind of felt wrong to do this, but every single thing that I have a complaint about is because it can be improved and talking about the possibilities and the implications is important in order to have a complete essay about him. I’ll defend Koujaku to death and to be honest most if not all the things that irk about him are NC’s fault anyway. We came here to play. *gets shot

Canvas Menagerie is a comfy slice-of-life boys love romance about a group of actors going through their mid-20s together while filming together. Follow Niko, a transmasc TV actor as he falls for his celebrity costar who plays his rival.

Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE+ launches October 1 in the west

Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE+ will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam on October 1 in the west for $59.99 / €59.99 / £54.99, Spike Chunsoft announced. In Japan, the game will launch as previously announced on July 18 for 6,350 yen.

The Japanese release will only support Japanese voice-overs, and Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese text at launch, but will be updated with additional language support when the western version launches. The western release will support English and Japanese voice-overs, as well as English, Japanese, French, Italian, German, and Spanish text.

The PlayStation 5 version of Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE+ will be available both physically and digitally worldwide, while the Xbox Series and PC versions will be digital-only. leon is a pretty affectionate person, both as a friend and as a partner. he has money, and his main way of showing his affection is spending it on you. use his stuff, hang out at his place, come on trips with him, hell, just ask him for gifts; he'll do all of it and some more, because why should you only have one colorway? you deserve all of them, frankly.

it only gets more intense if the two of you actually get together. what's the point of having a partner if he can't spend daddy's money on them? this is when it goes past the point of 'you deserve more'.

you're getting more, whether you asked for it or not. every deluxe edition, every option, whatever. at this point, asking which one you want is formality; he's getting all of them and flowers on top. 'just because' gifts were already a thing when he was just your friend; now he has an excuse to gift you things constantly.

☆ B IS FOR BLOOD. how messy are they willing to get for their darling?

leon doesn't mind getting messy, not at all. he's been fixing 'problems' in your relationship for ages, after all; he doesn't care. he likes to avoid any bloodshed, and usually he's able to — bribery, manipulation, and gossip work just fine. it's not like he wants to do it, but it's for your own good, he thinks.

he knows best, after all.

if leon ever needs to kill someone �� some particularly persistent pest getting in his way — he's willing to do so and has more than enough resources to get away with it. he'd still rather not get his own hands dirty; paying someone off would be the ideal way to take care of things.

even if he fucks something up — trusts the wrong person or fails to find anyone and has to do his own dirty work, it's not like his family would ever let the vidal heir go to jail.

ideally, leon would never have to abudct you; he'd be trying to get you to move in with him. he has the space, has the money, and you've known him for ages, so why not, right?

if he does have to abduct you, he won't be happy about it. he will do it with a mildly exasperated reluctance. can't you see he's just looking out for you? you can be so stupid sometimes. even then, he would never hurt or mock you; you'd be treated well, he has to keep up the idea that he's just doing what's best for you.

you'd get a room, good food, maybe even allowed to leave, with his supervision. just never permanently.

again, he'd probably not be super into the idea of abducting his darling; generally, forcing anything on you is not what leon wants. he would never disrespect consent, though, even if he's a manipulative bastard.

☆ E IS FOR EXPOSED. how much of their heart do they bare to their darling? how vulnerable are they when it comes to their darling?

leon, since you two are childhood best friends, would be a pretty emotionally open person. hell, he would use that fact to his advantage if it comes to manipulating and guilt tripping you; you can't leave, that'd be cruel — you're the only real friend he has.

he wouldn't be willing to be open about the most unsavory things he does for you, though. once you get into a relationship, he'll admit he's had feelings for you for a while, but as far as he'll tell you, that's all there was to it. no bribery, no violence, no gaslighting or manipulation; what, are you crazy? he wouldn't hurt a fly.

leon treats any resistance to his actions or suggestions as an unfortunate decision on your part. he loves you, but sometimes make such stupid choices. why can't you just see things his way?

the non-threatening ones he treats with a small, patronizing smile; you and your little friends. he's willing to let you indulge like that; after all, he knows random acquaintances, and classmates or coworkers won't ever compare to him. it's almost endearing to look at for him — you, the picture of perfection, mingling with people he perceives as nothing but worms beneath your feet.

the problem starts when those worms become pests, actually growing close enough with you to become a threat. this is where leon's jealous side shines, sparkles, and glows — he despises the idea that anyone even thinks they're good enough for you to be that close with. that's for him, and him only.

i don't know whether you'd consider systematically removing them from your life via means of manipulation and bribery to be lashing out or a coping mechanism; but that's what leon does, and he certainly doesn't shy away from it.

☆ K IS FOR KISSES. how do they act around or with their darling?

shameless favoritism. you're the favorite of all of his friends, and he doesn't hesitate to show that fact to you and everyone else around. adores spoiling you, both within a platonic and romantic relationship.

he wants everyone to see how great, how amazing, how perfect you are; and how he's the only one who gets to be this close to you. shows you off as the guest of honor, the person of the hour, the love of his life, always with a hand on your shoulder, around your waist, keeping you close somehow.

all of this helps, of course, with leon's more manipulative tendencies. don't you see how great he is to you? how great he is for you? he's happy to pull some strings and use his family's resources and connections to help you break into whatever industry you choose, to get you the best possible opportunities and anything else you need.

just as long as you stay by his side, leon will keep doing what he loves to do: treating you the way you deserve to be treated.

☆ L IS FOR LOVE LETTERS. how would they go about courting or approaching their darling?

leon's method of 'courting' is slowly but surely making you fall in love with him, making you believe that he is the best choice available. his ideal scenario would be you confessing to him, not the other way around; but if he can't make that happen, he'll simply wait until he's sure you'll say yes, at which point he will do so very casually. he's a patient man.

after that point, all of his usual 'friendly' behavior just ramps up in intensity. if you thought he was spoiling you before, get ready; you haven't seen anything yet. 'just because' gifts go from something he does maybe three or four times a year to a twice-a-month occurrence, flowers, if you're into those — this is his time to shine, to show you that he knows you best. that he is the best choice there ever was.

if you don't ever confess, or he reads the moment wrong and you do end up saying no, he will be very nonchalant about it. he's fine with staying as your best friend, his obsession was set in stone long before he developed romantic feelings for you; you'll just have to bear in mind the fact he still expects to be the number one person in your life, whether you end up getting a spouse or not.

☆ M IS FOR MASK. are their true colors drastically different from the way they act around everyone else?

yes.

leon externally is a confident, popular, overall upstanding guy. bit arrogant, maybe a bit spoiled, too, at times, sure, but hey, he's only human. he's known as a social, fun guy who just enjoys throwing giant parties and blowing some cash on a fun weekend. nothing wrong with that, right?

internally, leon is so, so much more egotistical than anyone could ever suspect. he has some kind of god complex, seeing people as just inherently beneath him. rich kid syndrome hit him hard, except he also has enough social awareness to realize letting others know he sees them as worms or pests is not exactly a great idea.

the only person exempt from this way of being perceived by him is you, of course — you're the only person he considers his equal; unfortunately, that leads to his obsession, thinking no one else is good enough for you.

☆ N IS FOR NAUGHTY. how would they punish their darling?

leon is never super keen on doing anything unkind to you, but he will do it, however reluctantly. it's for your own good, he decides whenever he is faced with the unfortunate necessity of manipulating you to keep you by his side.

the only outright punishment he would ever dull out is withdrawal; he wants you to need him, to lean on him for support, and if you try to leave, he won't hesitate to pull the rug out from under you, to show you just how good he makes life for you.

☆ O IS FOR OPPRESSION. how many rights would they take away from their darling?

ideally, none. he doesn't want to do anything to hurt or restrict you. he already doesn't like manipulating you, even though he's willing to do so guilt-free to anyone else. any rules leon wants to enforce with you, he is much more keen on doing so subtly; move in with him so you can leave that shitty job he knows you hate; and hey, since you're roommates now, obviously he wants to know what you're up to during the day. that's just, like, good manners.

☆ P IS FOR PATIENCE. how patient are they with their darling?

to a fault. leon has a near unlimited amount of patience for any 'misbehavior' before he does something drastic like abducting you. the only real punishment he is willing to give is cutting you off financially, as mentioned above; still, even that is only ever done with the intention of making you come back to him.

☆ Q IS FOR QUIT. if their darling dies, leaves, or successfully escapes, would they ever be able to move on?

no.

if you manage to leave, there is nothing you could do to stop him from coming after you. he will keep going after you until the ends of the earth, trying to convince you to come back. he has practically unlimited resources and is absolutely willing to use them on you; whether that means spoiling you or never letting you out of his grasp.

i think this is genuinely the only scenario where leon might abduct his darling. if you actually manage to keep running for long enough, his patience will eventually wear thin until he just can't help himself but bring you back home.

permanently, this time.

let's hope you had your fun while you were away, because now, he is not leaving your side ever again.

now, death is a bit of a different story. it's not exactly something leon can throw money at until it fixes itself, which is his usual method of dealing with problems. this is the only situation in which he would be forced to move on; he would find others to fill that void that you left, but ultimately, they'd still never compare to you.

☆ R IS FOR REGRET. would they ever feel guilty about abducting their darling? would they ever let their darling go?

yes and no. leon doesn't ever want it to get to that point in the first place. it'll take a lot to get him to actually forcefully abduct you, and he will certainly feel bad about it. unfortunately, he has experience doing things he feels bad about for you, so brushing that guilt away with 'it's for their own good' is almost too easy.

he wouldn't let you go, though. if it actually gets bad enough to the point of having to abduct you, leon will not be leaving your side. consider yourselves cuffed together; hell, he might actually do just that. you're staying with him, darling — he will break you before he lets you go.

☆ S IS FOR STIGMA. what brought about this side of them (childhood, curiosity, etc)?

family and childhood. leon's family is not exactly the 'family of yanderes' trope you'd have in mind, he wasn't ever told about anything to do with his little lovesickness outright, but his parents definitely encourage it — they won't let him get in trouble, they will absolutely let him blow ridiculous amounts of cash on you, and generally be supportive of whatever drastic measures he decides he needs to take.

as for childhood, that's just when his obsession started, and it's been steadily growing ever since. because of that, there is no way in hell you will ever make leon see that any of his behaviors aren't normal: he just wants the best for his closest friend! isn't that how friendship is supposed to work?

☆ T IS FOR TEARS. how do they feel about seeing their darling scream, cry, and/or isolate themselves?

generally, his first reaction will just be to hug you and not let you go until you've calmed down. he's pretty strong, which helps if you're angry and not sad — especially at him, yikes. he wants to know what happened and take care of the issue for you, but he'll make sure you're not screaming and crying before he asks.

isolating yourself isn't really different. leon will find you if you're not showing up to your work, your classes, and not responding to him. he'll just waltz on over to your place and stay there for as long as he needs until you talk to him about what's wrong.

his reaction isn't really different if you're upset because of him or while 'in his care'. he will still try to calm you down via physical contact first, then talk; although this time it's less him asking what's wrong, and more trying to convince you that whatever he did, he was just looking out for you.

☆ U IS FOR UNIQUE. would they do anything different from the classic yandere?

leon is a pretty soft yandere, much more on the manipulative/delusional side. doesn't like to use brute force and will actively try to avoid doing so.

☆ V IS FOR VICE. what weakness can their darling exploit in order to escape?

probably leon's guilt. if you play your cards right and look miserable enough once abducted, he might be forced to give into your demands. good luck with that, though; you'll still have to get through the near impenetrable wall of justifications for his behavior he's built up over the years, and that will not be an easy task.

☆ W IS FOR WIT'S END. would they ever hurt their darling?

no.

at least, not physically, i guess? if you haven't caught on yet, leon's a pretty manipulative person. still, he doesn't want to hurt your feelings until he deems it necessary.

☆ X IS FOR XOANON. how much would they revere or worship their darling? to what length would they go to win their darling over?

leon has a bit of a god complex, and you are the only person exempt from being seen as less than dirt beneath his feet. he sees you as an equal — which, in his case, means perfection personified.

leon will go as far as he needs in order to win you over, throwing gifts and lavish vacations at you and giving you enough affection to smother you and then some. he'd enjoy both a very willing darling as well as one that plays a bit hard to get — as long as you ultimately give in, he's willing to take on the challenge and try to find the perfect gifts to make you swoon.

☆ Y IS FOR YEARN. how long do they pine after their darling before they snap?

depends on what you'd consider snapping.

if snapping means killing someone for his darling, he will probably try all of his other tricks first, but he considers murder just another part of his arsenal. all is fair in love and war, or some shit; whatever. if someone's particularly persistent with their attempts to take you from him, he won't hesitate.

if snapping means abduction, then he'll put it off as much as he can and will only do so as a last resort. he really hopes it will never come to having to force you to stay by his side. he'll do it, but with a heavy heart.

☆ Z IS FOR ZENITH. would they ever break their darling?

leon hopes you'll just play along with all of his advances, but ultimately, he might just have to break his darling down, no matter guilty he will feel and how he will have to justify it to himself. it's all for your own good, after all; he'll be there to pick up the pieces, to rebuild you. with you by his side, all will be right in the world again.

I wasn't allow to say this but this information is for you. I got a friend that work at a product distribution department. They said that they are restocking goodies of the thirteen Prime for the next season. Megatronus Prime's goodies got pretty much new sticker design and character cards. If you buy thirteen character card in one row (you got duplicate or not), they will also give you a limited edition of the Prime you want (there's only 100 version of it) and I'm sure as hell that you need to get that limited deluxe version of Megatronus Prime card, yeah?

CLAMP Exhibition (2024)

July 3 - September 23, 2024 in Tokyo

The biggest CLAMP exhibition to date, the event showcases the original artwork from 23 works made by the group of four women, from RG Veda to Card Captor Sakura: Clear Card (technically 22 but they're counting Legal Drug and Drug and Drop separetely).

Over the years CLAMP has published a variety of manga, including those for boys (shounen), girls (shoujo) and young men (seinen), depending on the magazine they were published. Appealing to readers of all ages, genders and countries, their work continues to captivate.

The exhibition will feature a total of 800 original manuscripts (200 in color, 600 black and white), divided in 7 areas: Color, Love, Adventure, Magic, Phrase, plus Imagination and Dream.

C for COLOR. CLAMP colors the world.

Displaying a total of 200 original colored pieces from all 23 works (100 for each half of the exhibition).

This area showcases the variety of artstyles, techniques and tools CLAMP used over the years on their different manga. Includes pieces with colored ink, Copic markers, acrylic gouache, pastels, and digital art.

Even when publishing 2 different works at the same time the group likes to vary their tools: RG Veda (1989-96) was colored with ink and airbrushes, while Tokyo Babylon (1990-93) was colored with screen tones. The artstyle also changed depending on the publisher.

2. L for LOVE. CLAMP draws the forms of love.

The artwork in this area are divided in 8 types of love seen throught CLAMP's manga.

"The love depicted by Clamp is not singular—there is a straightforward love towards a significant other, but it can also be a determination to protect loved ones, a thought character keeps in their hearts, or even the conflict itself." (from tokyoartbeat article)

3. A for ADVENTURE. CLAMP weaves the stories of adventure.

350 manuscripts from 6 action-packed manga series: RG Veda, Tokyo Babylon, X/1999, Magic Knight Rayearth, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE.

Includes a synopsis of each work and selected scenes to follow along parts of the story.

4. M for MAGIC. CLAMP casts its magic.

The fantasy, magic, and mysterious powers seen in CLAMP works are seen in the moving manga pannels projected in 3 large screens in this area.

5. P for Phrase. CLAMP spins the phrases.

The first room showcases 40 manuscripts from xxxHolic.

The second room focuses on the power of words spun by CLAMP, exhibiting quotes form their works on the walls. Visitors can also pull one phrase sticker from the Phrase Box from CLAMP and take it home, or stick it to a wall in the room. There are 120 different phrases to pull.

6. IMAGINATION

Timeline of 35 years of creative work, from 1989 to 2024, featuring manga volumes, magazine issues, and more.

An installation in the center of the room also features quotes from a new interview with the four women specially for this event.

This is also the only area which features CLAMP's work in other media, including various collaborations. There is a selection of color illustrations, rough design drafts, and other artworks from Soryuden: Super Dragon Brothers, CODE GEASS, BLOOD-C, HiGH＆LOW g-sword, Cardfight!! Vanguard, GIFT (picture book by Ice skater Yuzuru Hanyu), The Grimm Variations, and HELLO KITTY.

7. DREAM

The last area is solely to exhibit a new illustration featuring Ashura (RG Veda) and Sakura Kinomoto (Card Captor Sakura: Clear Card), representing CLAMP's beginnings and future through their first and latest work.

"Kuro" (Black) and "Shiro" (White) are also the names of the new artbooks titled COLOR, which compile the artworks seen in the exhibition. A deluxe edition will be released at a later date compiling both volumes in one.

The audio guide during the exhibition is provided by Jun Fukuyama, who has played Kimihiro Watanuki in the anime series xxxHOLiC, Kobayashi Kotaro in ANGELIC LAYER, and Lelouch Lamperouge in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (CLAMP is responsible for character design in Code Geass) .

The place also features a store with a long list of products.

They also have the first volume of their various manga available to read, and a TV showcases the recently shared announcement video of the new anime project of Magic Knight Rayearth.

first, I like the Fade pun in "the crimson stains will never fade" hh. :>

second, we talked [here] about how the deluxe armors look ancient elfy, and the description here calls them "curiosities from a forgotten era". the weapons blurb tells us that the weapons are "of the Fallen Kingdom" - given the appearance of the items, presumably this Kingdom and the era is Elvhenan, before it fell. this is confirmed in the names of the armors for Rook - Bellanaris, Revas and Harellan are of course elven words.

from this info, we can see that the bottom right weapon is a staff. the top left is a shield (here's another shield from DA:I with "Aegis" in the name for reference. the word means protection or backing, and also a shield or breastplate type thing associated with mythological features like Athena), and in sword-and-board style it comes with a sword. we know that each of the 3 classes in the game will have "two distinct weapon types". it seems like the names of these 6 weapons might note what these are: [dual] blades and bow for rogue, sword&shield and 2-handed (e.g. a maul) for warrior, and staff and "spellblade" for mages. the latter is 👁️ for me as I've been wondering what the second weapon for mages is for ages now. it was like "wands? floating spellbooks like some mage NPC enemies in DA:I?" but maybe it's these "spellblades"? ^^ which is also the name of one of the 3 mage specs. :D

Revas: 'freedom' (one place it crops up is the secret greeting to enter Fen'Harel's sanctuary in Trespasser. Ar-melana dirthaveren. Revas vir-anaris.)

Harellan: in Dalish use, 'traitor to one's kin' (see: Codex Entry: The Rebel God). its root-word is related to harillen, 'opposition', and hellathen, 'noble struggle', so the ancient elven use of this word is maybe more along the lines of rebellion than deception.

Armor of Bellanaris and Ghellara Helm? Harellan's Bolts and Katriel's False Face? Revas Robes? for the Circlet of Awe, maybe on qunari Rooks it shows as vitaar as here, or it doesn't show due to their horns.

I wonder if more specific than ancient elven, these 3 bonus armors are related to Fen'Harel and his followers specifically. The Rebel God codex is about Solas ('harel). a heroic rebel against tyranny and slavery is someone associated with freedom. Fen'Harel's friend Mythal in the form of Flemeth is is Asha'bellanar, the woman of many years, and -anaris crops up in his secret greeting. if you wanted to, you can read into the three armor names a Fen'Harel connection. I could see a scenario where you might like, find these armors in the Lighthouse or something. maybe a codex or item description which associates them with followers of Fen'Harel or Mythal. (here I am just speculating for fun ^^)

Ghellara is a new name or word. it could be elven, as we have "Gh" in e.g. "Ghilan'nain" and "ara" as a sound crops up in the language a lot.

Katriel (🥺...) was an Orlesian elven bard and lover of King Maric, from The Stolen Throne. she hid her true identity from him, like a "False Face". her name and lore has cropped up in other item names before, like Katriel's Grasp. ahh, this is making me so excited to find and read all the other item names and descriptions in the game :D these flavor texts are fun and often super interesting 👁️

the 7 weapon and armors for the companions also have interesting names. they have 1 bonus weapon and 1 bonus armor each, and I wonder if the names of these items were chosen as they relate to their personalities, storyarcs, backstories, abilities etc. ((I'm overanalyzing and reading waaay too much into the names of these items just for fun, don't take this post too seriously, wild speculating is just fun to do. ^^))

Davrin: Grey Wardens need to have resolve to do what they do, and for a warrior 'resolve' has tanky connotations. we know Davrin is bold, and you get the impression that Davrin stands firmly and determined from lines such as "Nobody dies on my watch! For the Wardens!". As for High Constable - this is the rank of the Grey Warden who is second-in-command to the First Warden. historically during the time of the griffons, they were also the order's aerial commander. in recent times, they have also become the public face of the Order, acting as the ambassador to the High King and leading local recruitment. Maybe this is Davrin's specific Warden rank? if so, this is our highest-ranking Grey Warden companion yet, and I'm sooo curious to see the relationship and interactions between him and the First Warden. Davrin is also described as charming - perfect to be a public face and ambassador right? :D I also wonder if the historical role of aerial commander for that rank is part of why Davrin is the guardian of Assan. (also, there are some neat thoughts on the design of Davrin’s 'defaut' armor here. that post talks about the in-world griffon rider and irl aerial elements of his outfit design. :>) Or maybe he isn't yet, but can become this rank during the game? as for beacon, it has the connotations of light, hope, and towers and high places. when all seems lost during a Blight, the Grey Wardens come and save Thedas. I guess Beacon Edge is a sword. ^^

Emmrich: we have seen Emmrich holding a staff which does have an incessant gaze. a skull cannot close its eyes, and will 'look' for eternity. Mystique suits a gentleman necromancer who is a member of a mysterious order.

Neve: fervor is intense and passionate feeling, almost like zeal. Jessica alluded to this part of Neve's character during the Companion Q&A panel at SDCC. she described Neve's loyalty, dedication and great love for Docktown and its people. Neve is "really really fighting for those people", and Jessica loves how she has "that kind of a passion" and how she has "dedicated her life" to that and the other vision for Tevinter that she really sees. John mentioned that Neve is pushing back and fighting back against the Tevinter mageocracy and slavery. I guess fervor refers to these traits and beliefs of Neve's. Cat's Eye reminds me of horn-rimmed glasses (tell me that wouldn't be Neve's style in a modern AU hh?) and the imagery of a cat on the streets of Minrathous, ever-watchful from the shadows. it suits a detective from a big city with a dark underbelly. ^^ Feline senses are strong and sensitive - an investigator would never miss a clue at a crime scene or be caught unawares, yknow?

Harding: a Scout needs to be focused so that they do not miss anything when scouting. there is the imagery of a scout focusing on their surrounds, or looking at a far-off horizon. a marksman needs focus for their arrows to hit their targets. Harding has been focused on chasing down Solas for many years at this point in the timeline. focus is also a game mechanic in DA:I. we accumulate focus by killing enemies and when the bar is fully charged, the Inquisitor can use their Focus ability. maybe this refers to Harding's new magical powers? maybe mechanically in gameplay she can use them kind of like how focus in DA:I? as for Sunderbow, of course Harding is an archer. Sundermount is a mountain, and you can talk about "sundering armor". but what "sunder" really makes me think of is 1). the Altar of Sundering that was found in the Deep Roads in Ortan Thaig. it summons a Fade creature and is a source of magical power. why did the dwarves, who don't use magic, of that place have such an altar? 2). Sundering, the sacred mace wielded by Luthias Dwarfson, a famous Ash Warrior.

Legend says the mace was not crafted by hand, but instead hatched from an egg high in the mountains and then carried by birds to Luthias as a wedding gift from the Lady of the Skies. When Luthias dies, dwarves arrived to carry him to Orzammar to be buried as one of their own with the Stone. Sundering was to lie at his side, but the mace could not be found. Stories say the birds reclaimed it and will deliver it to another hero in time.

3.) various dialogue Solas has with Varric in DA:I.

"Dwarves are the severed arm of a once mighty hero, lying in a pool of blood. Undirected. Whatever skill of arms it had, gone forever. Although it might twitch to give the appearance of life, it will never dream." / "You truly are content to sit in the sun, never wondering what you could've been, never fighting back."

Solas: "Do you ever miss life beneath the earth? The call of the Stone?" Varric: "Nah. Whatever the Stone - capital S - is, it was gone by the time my parents had me." Solas: "But... do you miss it?" Varric: "How could I miss what I never had?"

Dwarves as they are in modern Thedas are a sundered arm, unconnected. They are apart from themselves, and from their parents, the Titans. their connection to the Titans broke when the Titans fell; without the Titans, they can't be "taller". if Harding's new magical powers has something to do with the Titans (see: Valta), I wonder if the "sunder" in "Sunderbow" refers to this.

Taash: there isn't much to go on here, but "might" makes sense for a mighty dragon-hunter, and a dual-wielding warrior has more damage-dealing warrior connotations (raw strength) than a more tanky-type, shield-bearing one. "Grief" makes me so worried 🥺 is Taash okay? what is she sad about? is there a bereavement in her backstory? who or what did she lose? what is Taash grieving? please, my heart hurts.

Bellara: you have to have nerve to be a Veil Jumper, a group that only accepts those brave enough to face the dangers in Arlathan Forest including its reality-warping magic. she's brave, optimistic, energetic, an adventurer; daring in her knowledge-seeking quest and desire to find out what's true and what isn't. she just sees a problem and wants to solve it. :) Sorrow.. we already know that Bellara has seen a lot of tragedy in her backstory, and that her optimistic outlook is sometimes a mask to hide the fact that she's hurting and in pain. like with Taash my heart hurts and I wonder what happened in her past 🥺

Lucanis: "heartpiercer" is a great name for the knives of an assassin that always find their mark and kill them. he always gets the contract done, and strikes fatally and with precision. he also pierced all our hearts 💘💘 (heartbreaker.. 🥺?) "Gall" is really interesting.. it has multiple different meanings and connotations. brazenness, temerity, bold behavior, audacity (I'd guess these are the meaning here). bile. great misery, suffering and bitterness. an open wound. to harass or harry.
