It's always, like, mildly annoying when people see a het trans couple and go "all that work just to be straight?" like... one, you don't know if they're straight and two, trans people don't owe you a queer sexuality to "make up" for the fact we're trans. Transhet people aren't a subtype of trans people, they're members of the trans community, and the queer one if they so desire!

I know that Kdramas have a weird thing about sexual purity, but it's so funny how they set up their male CEOs: they have only enough brain cells for business or a relationship. There is no middle ground, no possible division of thought. They had better have hired some good subordinates, because once they fall in love after 15 years of business-devoted celibacy all their work-related savvy goes straight out the window and all they can think about is which flower goes best in their beloved's hair or how they can possibly confess their feelings.

Haven't read the wingmaker job yet but keep seeing snippets from it and the best justification I have for why Illario is so different is because he's McFreakin' Losing It during the game. His house of cards is collapsing and to say he is not handling it well would be an understatement.

First, he has the cousin he's been mourning for a year and probably dealing with a very complicated mix of grief, guilt, and regret because he ordered Lucanis' death and still hasn't gotten what he wanted out of it- being made First Talon - and only lost his brother. Only to find out actually his cousin is alive, his grandmother has known the whole time and didn't say anything to him, and now his cousin is going to be coming back and Illario knows he's never going to be First Talon unless he does something. Then Lucanis is back and he's an abomination, a fate a lot of people in Thedas would say is worse than death and I'm sure Illario knows that Caterina would still pick Lucanis anyways even after she finds out what her poor boy has become.

Second, he needs to get rid of Caterina because it's clear she's not going to let him be First Talon ever. But he can't kill her. That's his grandmother who he has an incredibly complex relationship with and still craves her approval even though he knows he isn't going to get it, and after everything with Lucanis, I don't think Illario could go through with killing someone else close him considering how messed up he was after getting rid of Lucanis. Which also presents problems because is he just going to keep Caterina locked up for the rest of her days? What was the end goal in kidnapping her? I don't think Illario really thought it all through because he was panicking and had to think fast when he found out Lucanis was alive and coming back.

Third, Illario also has to deal with Zara. No matter what Illario's actual feelings towards her are, Illario still has to keep her thinking he's still interested and into her even after she betrayed him by capturing and torturing Lucanis for a year. Illario probably started making his deal with the Venetori long before you find out about it in the game seeing as he's already cozied up to Zara, so he's also having to play an entire organization for their support which probably gets a lot more complicated after he kills his main point of contact even if he likely frames it as Rook and Lucanis offing her.

Lastly, Illarrio has to think of the Crows and present himself as a properly grieving grandson and relieved that his cousin is back and manage House Dellamorte with his grandmother gone and Lucanis on contract. He's gotta gather support amongst the other Talons and allay suspicion and with so many different plates to balance and sheer emotional turmoil the guy is going through, it makes sense that he's dropping the ball on a lot of things during the game. Illario is stuck in a nightmare scenario and its one he set in motion himself with no way out and only the title of First Talon as consolation that everything he has done was worth it.

A little Eddie whump character analysis deep dive.

And defending symbrock while I'm at it and why I think movie Eddie was actually well thought out as a character and not just because "the stereotypical macho blonde asshole would not have been popular."

I'm exhausted so hopefully I didn't mess up the details too bad. Been a while since I read the comics.

Sprinkle in some of my ADHD so expect a bit of rambling. I added some gifs because I do love a picture book.

It's canon that Eddie Brock was abused by his father growing up. And the abuse was mostly emotional, lack of love, and lack of concern.

And gentle reminder that not everyone handles trauma the same, no matter which kind, and I feel like the way they wrote Eddie for the movies showcases another side to that trauma versus the comics. There's so many little details that even if it's just Tom being the amazing actor that he is portraying that side and not actually having those details written for him, it's still amazing.

Because Eddie's father was cold and emotionless after he lost his wife during childbirth. And of course Eddie tried everything to gain that love, just to be constantly subpar and never good enough for even a second glance.

After an accident involving drunk driving where Eddie hit a child, their relationship only got worse. And later in the comics, he disowns Eddie completely after he loses his job.

The movie version of Eddie is the broken version of that trauma.

He tends to shy away from situations where you'd assume he'd rush in to, like saving Mrs. Chen.

Trying to help or inquiring when he notices Maria missing. Anything that involves complex emotions. He's a reporter, yes, and he's cordial when he needs to be, but he seems to stick to his job and otherwise keep to himself. They don't exactly show that he has any friends, just Anne. So he's probably introverted because of the years of abuse and having to feel like he has to do everything alone with little to no strings attached.

Even simple things like getting into Anne's emails can be misunderstood. It's not malicious, but more misguided. He loved Anne. He didn't do what he did with intent to get her in trouble. But his poor decision making is probably also a part of not actually being raised and not knowing how to handle certain situations such as actually talking to your partner before you do things on your own? So much could have been avoided. And Eddie had good intentions of getting rid of Carlton Drake, but ruined his own life and Anne's as well because he didn't think things through.

He can't handle his emotions well (might also tie into the noises issue he seems to have that are not related to Venom, a possible trigger for him).

He has a lot of nervous ticks that also tie in with someone growing up in an abusive household. Emotionally stunted ticks. Like holding eye contact when someone he cares about is upset with him and he doesn't know how to fix it (because everything he does is wrong).

Even something you might think is simple, like apologizing, have had negative consequences as a child and might be why even though he's no longer in that situation, his brain isn't used to connecting any good emotions between them. He's probably not used to apologizing sincerely because doing so never meant it would change the outcome.

His mannerisms get worse when he's particularly anxious, like when he might have thought Venom didn't want to come back just as Anne when she left and never wanted to come back.

Again, because he pushed them away, just like Anne. Again, because he messed it up. And again, because he didn't know how he was supposed to fix it.

Because Eddie cares so much even though his head is always such a mess. Makes me think his dad had a say or two about Eddie constantly groveling for his attention and the way it might have made him seem weak, and Eddie in turn stopped himself from letting himself be so open and able to talk about these issues because of it.

His inability to form and/or hold any kind of positive relationship is a good telling sign.

He grew up vying for love without success. He doesn't know what a healthy relationship is supposed to look or feel like long term, even though he tries.

He probably just looks for some level on comfortable routine in his day to day with someone, assumes that's the best he's going to get, and hopes for the best. Any change and it throws him completely off center. He's not used to communicating in a relationship when he grew up talking to a wall.

Also why I think he handles being with Venom so badly. It's not the eating heads and it's not the whole 'alien living in my body' ordeal.

If something isn't obviously positive it feels negative to him in his mind, which makes everything worse. He's selfish in needing to keep his mental state positive. It no doubt contributed to his alcoholism.

He became a people pleaser. Not in the way of gaining attention, but because he's constantly trying to avoid any negative sentiments directed his way. He's already damaged. He doesn't want to have to feel worse.

Eddie is in constant fight or flight with Venom without knowing what the symbiote will do next and how he, Eddie, will be perceived. He becomes very anxious, and later, angry. He's always walking on eggshells.

But the relationship is different with the symbiote than it is with Anne. Even if Eddie doesn't explicitly say it, he feels safe with Venom. More able to let that rage out that he couldn't before. And because he doesn't feel like the symbiote is going to actually hurt him, when his stress gets to him he tends to lash out at it. It's a lovely little cycle of abuse and Eddie really needs therapy.

Venom didn't fully understand the layers of Eddie's traumatized mind yet in LTBC, which is why I think it lashed out as well. Like Anne had with Eddie. Again, it's different though. Venom understands enough to see through that mess and see that Eddie doesn't mean anything with what he says.

It never does damage with malicious intent to Eddie, comedic acts aside. Not even with the fight between them in LTBC. It breaks Eddie's nose twice just to heal it immediately twice, and doesn't leave him with any lasting damage at all.

Because it cares about Eddie. And because it was never meant to harbor emotions, it's probably going through the damn gambit having to feel everything through Eddie and feeling just as hurt by him.

This is also why I think Eddie is constantly complaining in TLD. He's again in constant fight or flight and too comfortable with Venom, so he's just lashing out. But you can tell the symbiote takes none of it to heart, sometimes even seeming to ignore his remarks completely.

Maybe after a year with Eddie it finally understands the pain underneath all that stunted emotion, anxiety, and anger. That, and Eddie no longer drinks his negative emotions away, which means he has less ways to calm himself when he gets too stressed.

Through everything, Venom is the only one who has the ability to see the issues that are deeper. It stayed through all that mess and decided that what was under the baggage was worth holding on to, without Eddie having to try and explain why he is the way that he is.

I genuinely love Bernards character so much even if he is just The Boyfriend™️ Here is an essay on him because it is 11:17 PM.

Disclaimer: I have not read anything with him before urban legends.

To start off, he's suicidal and I want to hug him and adopt him because his parents are homophobic. They kicked him out and he was joined a pain cult as a last resort of finding belonging. Last last second resort was one last dinner with his childhood friend/crush/and gay awakening Tim Drake. Bernard genuinely wanted Tim to pull him out of the gutter but got kidnapped before he could have the chance to tell Tim anything. It was his suicide attempt but even just seeing Tim reignited his will to live and he fought alongside Robin to free everyone else from said cult and bring it down.

I like to think Bernard immediately figured out Tim was Robin during that fight. Like he probably felt so worthless that no one would care if he disappeared, but Tim did and who shows up to save him? Robin. Not to mention Bernard is in love with Tim, so if Robin had any similar mannerisms (or didn't mask his voice) Bernard would definitely know immediately, and my guess is that he did. I know that's unrealistic by comic book standards *looks at clark* but it's canon so-

Now I feel like someone would paint that relationship (Bernard taking comfort/self worth from Tim) as toxic. I get it but also, Bernard seems to be doing well on his own after the encounter and seems independent enough. He's going to school full time with two majors and has his own place away from his parents. He has a life outside of Tim and ways to manage it, but he also has his life with Tim. He's keeping up with his physical health (fighting training) as well as telling Robin how he feels. Doesn't happen all the time but thats my next point.

The Robin mask helps them connect more. You'd think it would be the other way around because it's a mask and a lie. In reality they both know. Bernard states how Tim seems to be waiting for him to say something while hesitating to say it himself. Tim probably suspects Bernard knows, and Bernard respects Tim's privacy. Tim wants to tell him but has his own shit he's working through.

It acts as a placebo effect. lets them speak openly to each other without feeling the weights they carry individually. Talking to Robin and not Tim let's Bernard be honest about how scared and worried he is. Tim wearing his Robin mask lets him talk to Bernard in a more "professional" way while also making sure he's okay from an outside perspective. They both know the other is their boyfriend, but the mask acts as a filter that let's them speak to each either differently—in a good way.

I just... think they're neat.. *bursts into tears...*

Mew is confident enough to not just turn Top down but also agree to let him share his bed and cuddle but not fuck. Mew knows not just himself and his worth but also his limits and his value.

Ray has no confidence. He gets too drunk to function, calls himself a burden, pulls away from any real show of emotion, lashes out at everyone around him and doesn't understand why they're annoyed because why should what he says matter? He's a burden, he's unimportant, he doesn't matter to anyone.

Sand is confident enough in his own identity to know that he can't jut let Ray drive drunk and that he can't leave him alone in his car because he's not trustworthy and he knows how to take care of this stray drunk-cat he's taken in but also enough confidence to be offended and kick him out and wait for the real apology when they meet up again.

Top is so confident he oozes with it like slime. He knows himself, what he wants and what he will do to get it which is anything. His awareness is high and he doesn't hesitate to act on what he wants because he knows his worth as he defines it, at least.

Nick is confident but in a gentler way. He wants what he wants and he will try and he's confident enough to take a topless picture of himself on the phone of a customer that had eyed him and turn the lights off at work to make out with him as well. You gotta have confidence to do that... but it's not loud confidence and it's not the same steady and comfortable confidence that Mew has. It's a confidence that he has but it is not firm, it is not unshakeable, it is confidence but with an unsteady base.

Boston is confident but he is confident in his exact way and in who he is and in nothing else. He is confident when he is doing what he wants and likes, he is confident when he is fucking and flirting and photographing and otherwise he is just someone out of their element and he pulls back quickly.
