The first full day I've gone without talking to her since mid-late May I'm sad :(

#when the girl youre dating goes on an alaskan cruise #and doesnt have service or wifi #i just miss her #and its only day one #bc she just got on the cruise yesterday #and doesnt get back till next saturday or sunday #like guh i miss her so much already #i cant wait till she gets back and i get to hear her talk all about her trip #and all of the things shes really been excited for #but man a week is a long time #what i would give to get even a small update #im hoping once they hit the first port shes able to send at least one text #since she'll be in the us and might be able to rind service #but like i also understand if shes too busy doing all the cool things she has planned #i just cant wait for her to be back #i wanna kiss her and actually ask her to be my girlfriend #like officially put a label on it #ive been waiting till after this trip because i wanted her to focus on the trip and enjoying it #guh im yearning #this is going to be a rough week #but seeing her next monday #and the slideshow of pictures from her trip #as she gushes about it will be so worth it #i like seeing her happy #still cant believe im one of the things that make her happy #like its been a while and im still in disbelief

something. about. the horror of being sent on an impossible (death) quest and obligations and hospitality politics. the trauma of not having a home, and then the trauma of being in a house that becomes actively hostile to you, one that would swallow you whole and spit out your bones if you step out of line. all of this is conditional, your existence continues to be something men want gone.

it's about going back as far as I can with the perseus narrative because there's always a version of a myth that exists behind the one that survives. the missing pieces are clearly defined, but the oldest recorded version of it isn't there! and there's probably something older before that!! but it's doomed to forever be an unfilled space, clearly defined by an outline of something that was there and continues to be there in it's absence.

and love. it's also about love. even when you had nothing, you had love.

on the opposite side of the spectrum, this is Not About Ovid Or Roman-Renaissance Reception, Depictions And Discourses On The Perseus Narrative.

edit: to add to the above, while it's not about Ovid, because I'm specifically trying to peel things back to the oldest version of this story, Ovid is fine. alterations on the Perseus myth that give more attention Medusa predate Ovid by several centuries. this comic is also not about those, either! there are many versions of this story from the ancient world. there is not one singular True or Better version, they're all saying something.

chapter 2 rough draft is approaching 70 pages, im confident i can start painting it this week :3

watching pvpciv now bc. of course I am. and going off of A) the number of swings he needed to take daily (3 - open door, pvp check, close door) B) the number of swings he wasted day one (at least 18) C) extra expenses including the one time he slept in his bed (3) and whatever food he needed to buy (I'll give him 5 as the bare minimum, assuming 1 trip to the market to buy 3 raw chicken) D) the durability of wooden swords (59) E) his starting durability (I'm going with 5 based on the assumption that he brings it down to 4 off-screen to open the door for the pvp check) and F) the fact that he had never won a fight before the first episode (and as such had never gained swings), I can confidently say that at the start of the series, Evbo had been in pvpciv for ROUGHLY 9 DAYS 🎉 POSSIBLY LESS IF HE GOT MORE FOOD/DID MORE TRIPS TO THE MARKET 🎉
