Oh wow! My previous lil video post blew up! (Well, for one of my posts at least). And I saw a few people saying they like the name Citrus for one of my lil Mer dudes in Guppy Love.

So tada! Not a merboy, obviously, but the fish I based his scale coloration on: the Mandarin Dragonet.

I have to give credit to @meetthetank , @dragonfuckerllc and @kilouekas-photos for helping me find these lil dudes. I was looking for a tropical fish with ultramarine blue in them, and they certainly delivered!

Aren’t they so pretty??? >^<

Aaaaand have to thank my roommate for the name. It’a way better than my stand in name “Steffan” after Steffan Argus (I like his songs Ship in a Bottle and Abandon Ship) Not that it’s a bad name, but I like Citrus more. Plus it’s right there in the species: Mandarin Dragonet.

One of the things I very much hate about modern AUs in MDZS is how the fic writers Americanise everything about the characters until the only thing Asian about them is their name.

#mdzs #I think the no of fics that properly research their cultural background and history and I've actually loved #I can count on one hand #no because really why is WWX is speaking in American slang and why is everyone forgetting that #They. Are. Chinese!#they will be most of the time be speaking mandarin thank you very much #I do hate the Straight boy Wei Ying fic writers make him out to be #come to think of it #this happens in most fandoms #I took a peek in the first few fics in omniscient reader's viewpoint fandom ao3 #and what do you know almost all of them have Kim Dojka as an oblivious dumb idiot #like people will really erase all the complex aspects of a character in order to idiotify them for the 'dumb oblivious idiot' trope #and have all of their friends and family be there for the sole purpose to be exasperated with the main characters being oblivious about each #others' feelings #because obviously they know better about these two people feel and their relationship than the characters themselves #not that these can't be done well and asking for relationship advice is nothing out of the ordinary #but when it's like the characters have to be hammered over the head with “he likes you!” like they can't figure that out themselves is..#very annoying #wei wuxian #lan wangji #mxtx

mandarinfish are native to the pacific, from the ryuku islands down to south australia

they grow up to 3 inches long on average!

these fish do not actually have scales! they secrete mucus from their skin, which keeps them clean

mandarinfish are very sky and often avoid other fish

the name of this fish comes from the vibrant patterns, which resemble the robes of an imperial chinese officer!

they are picky eaters an eat from a small range of food, most notably protozoans and worms :)

the way that diff languages sound r so fascinating they're all different and all so vivid

#russian is like the surface of a feather like it's light but not exactly “soft” but still very delicate #german is . cute ? i think it's adorable . it has a lot of momentum it makes u wanna talk fast and talk a lot #like it's squishy . sleek surface w a soft inside #thai is like song . it's like interprative dance or maybe a trust-fall . everything follows from the previous thing #it feels like a little fairy flying up and letting itself fall and flying up again and so on (for fun). its so beautiful but also playful #mandarin chinese is like . idk why but it gives me the same vibe the concept of Observation does . like to read and to see and absorb #and then to translate that into smth else . like . imagine a poet people watching or an artist preparing a canvas w practiced hands. thats #the vibe. soft and elegant and musical but like...in a way that feels lived-in. arabic feels wise ? like music or poetry u read #and feel nothing about then years later u stumble on and it applies to everything in ur life. that kind of vibe. like it knows more than u #and itll make sure ur heart and soul grows as big as its lexicon . polish is like snowflakes falling . it has the feeling of complexity and #elegance but it's also so so light and slippery and...maybe not elusive but the feeling of losing a dance partner in a waltz ? like fun and #light but also an underlying elegance and somberness still . turkish is like the feeling when u get a text from ur crush #and your heart tightens and you cant tell if it's really painful or really amazing . it feels like unrequited love . or a caress #or making out with someone when you know its the last time you'll see them. its beautiful in a yearning longing way #korean is like joking around w ur friends and you've stayed up until like almost 5 AM and youre so delirious that everything is funny #and ur speaking kind of lightly and openly and everything you say holds a lot of weight and doesnt matter at all. you laugh at everything #and youre practically talking in inside jokes and watching the sunrise together . one of them hits u on the shoulder lovingly. ur by a fire #yoruba feels like the metatheory of the matatheory . abstraction until it circles back to intuition or maybe #it feels like plotting the route of a comet or maybe like the soft warm whirr of statistics. trying to verbalise beauty somehow #when you know the best thing you can show it is by telling everyone just look!! look at the sky just look!#anyway yh i think i could do this for every language ever tbh

language learning advice?

Hi <3

I would love to start learning Italian and Greek (also mandarin but I won't lie, mandarin scares me with how difficult it is), they are beautiful languages and I have wanted to learn them for years now and I am done with putting it off!

Does anyone have any tips for learning languages, specifically Italian, Greek or Mandarin? Also, any way to do a language exchange? I've tried HelloTalk and it just ends up with strange men being creepy in messages.

Also, if anyone is learning a language, whether it is one of those three or not, maybe we could start a group chat to keep everyone accountable/share tips?

Any advice at all would be useful <3
