But now that I'm about halfway through the second volume I gotta say that while the style and character work are both impressive I am absolutely DYING of secondhand embarrassment reading it.

But there is a difference between a British author from the start of the 20th century having anti-Irish sentiments, and a British author from the start of the 20th century writing a high handed book where he spends multiple chapters having the characters carry out his own internal arguments philosophising on the nature of war and violence and good leadership and the relationship of might vs right during which he ties himself into knots to say that resorting to violence and war because someone intentionally starved you isn't justified and the Irish Republic sucks. Like, major Aristotle going off on moral philosophy about how to treat your fellow man (but women and slaves are property) vibes. So to start My analysis, I gotta preface something: I tend to look at these things through two lenses, so to speak; a narrative lens, and a meta lens. Narrative means I take things in canon as they are in the narrative, examining it exclusively in the context of the world that was built. Meta means I take into account the fact that this is media, and the fact of what kind of media it is is significant in the point of my analysis. Personally, when analyzing shows like Sofia the First, which are admittedly shows aimed at children, I take note of the meta perspective way more than I would for a show more aimed at adults, like Bridgerton for example, because kids shows have to be a little bit more self-aware of themselves as shows in order to better appeal to kids.

With this in mind, I've got Thoughts lmao /pos

Narratively, Roland does use Cedric to ensure his people don't go hungry (The Baker King, he has Cedric use his magical grow-fast powder on the villagers gardens cause they aren't growing enough food). Meta-ly, if Cedric's magic were used to fix every problem, then that kind of defeats the point of the show, to teach young children how to go about solving different problems in a narrative way instead of a forth-wall breaking, in your face way like Dora the Explorer!

Narratively, if Roland used Cedric's magic to its full potential (which he never would because he doesn't always trust Cedric's magic ever since The Incident, and I say always because to have little faith is to have some faith), then there would be way less jobs in Enchancia and way more stress on Cedric, because he'd essentially take over Baileywick's job as steward of the entire castle.

Narratively, Cedric would never make himself a castle because it was never actually Being A King that he wanted. He wanted the power and respect being king would've given him, thus granting him something that was continuously denied him his entire childhood. That's why he stayed, and I agree with Shy, narratively, I think he latched onto the Amulet because he doubted his own abilities thanks to everyone else doubting his abilities.

Narratively, you can fix everything with magic because it's established how broad and incredible magic can be in the world. Metaly, you could never fix everything with magic, because magic doesn't exist in that way in real life, so the children watching this show have to learn through osmosis how to fix these kinds of problems the way Sofia would, which is why she's so patient and kind and loving; she's teaching little girls especially how to act like the princess a lot of them want to be.

As for all the kids' problems in Baileywick's Day Off being solved by Cedric, narratively, the kids trust Baileywick way more and he was closer than Cedric was up in his tower, which leads to my meta reason why Cedric wasn't involved: that episode in particular set up what exactly Baileywick does within the castle and how valuable and loved he is by the royal family. It sets up his character properly beyond his brief introduction in Once Upon A Princess and any small scenes he had in the other eight episodes prior, this is his first Big episode. It shows how dedicated Baileywick is to the royal family and how that dedication is appreciated and rewarded by the kids feeling bad for taking away from Baileywick's day off (even Sofia asked him to do something for her!) and the whole family but especially the kids setting up this little intimate party for him with all the things Baileywick was going to do with his brother that they prevented by needing him, and Baileywick choosing them over his time off. It sets up their connections, dynamics, and relationships that continue over the course of the entire series. So if the kids did ask Cedric instead of Baileywick, then we as the audience wouldn't get that establishing of a dynamic and Baileywick wouldn't have that level of fleshed-out-ness that he does in canon!

Thinking about how most of the problems in the STF episodes could have been easily fixed by Cedric's spells

Thinking about how Cedric's spells can literally turn rocks into rubies and simply make food appear out of thin air, so there should be no poverty or hunger if they gave wealth and food to the poor

Thinking about how the servants are unnecessary because Cedric's spells can make food (enchanted feast episode), dissapear and reappear anywhere he wants which means he can teleport because he was alive in the rest of the movie which can maybe mean that he can teleport people since he did it with objects and also himself (once upon a princess), make houses appear even tho he made a gingebread house (king for a day), GOD I JUST REMEMBERED IT, USE STONES TO CREATE HOUSES IN MERE SECONDS (cedric be good), duplicate stuff which means he can duplicate blankets and clothes for the poor (sofia the second), make vegetables grow faster (that episode when the royal family turns into bakers i unfortunately forgor the name of it but his spell was mentioned at the start of the episode)

The castle will be full of trained sorcerers, which living being with consciousness would have the courage to invade a place like this??!?? Also they could create a magic barrier around the castle, I also don't care if it's not canon it just makes sense. Dress the children? Spell to create outfits bibidi bobidi boo or even the living clothes that can fit the body by themselves

Thrown - Chapter 23: Lodestar

Summary: Loki learns something new about his own mythology during a camping trip.

Author's Note: Happy Turkey Day to my American friends, and Happy Thursday to everyone else. Today I'll be attending a Thanksgiving Lunch and then also a Thanksgiving Dinner so if nobody hears from me for the next couple days it's because I'm sleeping off 80,000 calories.

The faces of Fury, Stark, and Rogers gazed out from the laptop's screen. Loki sat stiff in his chair, trying his best to look like a reformed and respectable member of society. He hadn't been the focus of this meeting, it had largely been about the progress of New Asgard, but there was an implied undercurrent that made it clear that his progress was being examined as well. Thor had not been subtle about dropping compliments for his brother into the conversation throughout the meeting. It was obvious that they were still not keen on his lack of imprisonment. He had to stifle his irritation that these men considered themselves arbiters of his fate, and that he needed to appease them. Fury hadn't spoken once throughout the meeting, but seemed to be absorbing everything that was said. Loki wondered how much Thor had told them about Thanos. It seemed he hadn't mentioned the recent incident at the market.

Stark's voice broke through. "In other news, I gotta say, Prancer, we're all very impressed you haven't tried to usurp the king of Norway or whatever." Loki smiled at him with gritted teeth. Thor frowned. "That is not very fair-" "Kidding! I'm kidding, geeze big guy, lighten up." Thor relaxed fractionally. "We have been impressed." It was Rogers speaking now. "Between Thor's reports and the posts on social media-" Loki's brow furrowed. "Social media?" "Yeah." Stark cut in. "It's this thing people use to talk to each other on the-" "I am aware!" Loki paused to check his tone. "I am aware of the phenomenon. I do not participate." "Sure, but the people around you do." Stark quipped. Thor had pulled up a post on his tablet and handed it to Loki.

"You've made Rogers self-conscious." Stark was smirking. "He's really had to up his game, helping old ladies cross the street and such." The captain rolled his eyes. "Loki has been assimilating well." Thor clapped him on the shoulder. "In fact, this very evening we will both be going camping with a human friend...."

Loki let the conversation drift away as he looked down at the post Thor had displayed on the tablet. It was the photo of him with the foreign couple he had translated for at the market. The caption read: "Um?? My parents said this guy helped them buy souvenirs on their vacation???" He scrolled down to the responses. The bulk of the comments were involved in a very heated debate as to whether the man in the photo truly was Loki of Asgard. Points and counter-points were made. Comparisons of photos were bouncing back and forth. He smirked at the vitriol produced by such an inconsequential argument. Further down, a section of comments seemed to have largely devolved into a discussion about mangos. This must be a reference he did not understand. He made a mental note to ask you about it later.

He looked up, as it appeared the meeting was coming to an end. Stark and Rogers images blinked out. Fury's stoic glare was all that remained. "You're doing well." He stated plainly before he, too, disappeared. It was the only thing he'd said in the entire meeting, and Loki wasn't sure who it was directed to. "That went very well, I think!" Thor grinned and stood up from the table.

Loki felt... tired. It was exhausting, keeping up a friendly facade with three men on a screen who, despite a few bits of praise, very much did not trust him and did not want him on their planet. He couldn't blame them, of course. He did throw one of them out of a window, after all. Defenestration rarely builds trust. Still, it was draining, trying to remain polite and courteous to a group who is looking for any reason to see him as otherwise.

At least the day was only going to get better from here. You had invited the brothers to join you on another hike up the mountain, where you intended to spend the night. Loki had his suspicions as to why you had arranged this outing. After the events at the market last weekend and this meeting today, he could use a respite and you seemed to be well aware of this. But then, perhaps you needed one as well.

You loaned backpacks to him and Thor so they could pack their things. He went upstairs to finish doing so now. They would likely be leaving to meet you soon.

Your cottage came into view as Loki and Thor worked their way up the road. You were sitting in your chair on your porch, Ash lying at your feet, along with a pack and other supplies. When you noticed them you waved and called from your chair.

"Boys! You ready to go?" "I believe so, yes." Thor called back. "You mentioned there were items you needed us to carry?" Ash had already gotten up to greet the brothers. You stood and motioned to the supplies at your feet. "Just some food and stuff. I hope you left a little space in your packs." "Oh, I'm sure we can manage." Thor said as he looked down at the items on the porch. "Certainly." Loki added. Then, with a quick wave of his hand, he vanished the supplies, leaving just your pack at your feet. You stared at the empty space for a moment. "Right. Duh." You shouldered your bag and smiled. "Let's go, then."

You led them down and across the road, to the same trail as before. The hike up was much more cheerful this time around, naturally. Loki could better appreciate the scenery as well as the company. He and Thor stopped periodically to give you a break, and in a surprisingly short amount of time the three of you stepped out onto the terrace once again. Ash took a drink from the stream while the rest of you took a moment to admire the view. It was no less stunning this time. Most of the deciduous trees had dropped their leaves, but the evergreens stood bright and proud. At the higher altitudes the snow that had fallen in the previous weeks had managed to stick around, capping the surrounding peaks. There were even a few remnants of ice lingering here on the terrace, presumably in places that were shaded in the day.

You gave the brothers the job of gathering firewood and starting a fire while you set up the tent nearby. He and Thor completed the job quickly enough, with just a minor disagreement as to how much firewood was sufficient for a single night. They came over just as you were completing your task, the tent's structure had been assembled and you were arranging sleeping bags inside.

Loki was not impressed by the tent. "Surely this material is far too thin to be of any use in keeping out the elements." He rolled the nylon between his fingers. "Trust me, when we're bundled in the sleeping bags, with the combined body heat of the three of us plus Ash in this thing, we will all be plenty warm." You assured. He remained skeptical but decided to take your word for it.

Dinner was cooked over the fire, and for once you had more than just cursory help. This was familiar territory for the brothers, who had spent many nights camped on hunts or for training outings and thus had plenty of experience cooking outdoors. The meal might not have been as refined as those made in your kitchen, but it was filling and comforting and the joint effort was a delight.

The sight of the sun setting was unparalleled, throwing golden rays and deep shadows across the forest and the fjord and the sea. The three of you sat around the fire talking and laughing well after the stars and moon had risen. Eventually, the call to sleep was answered and everyone retired to the tent. You took one sleeping bag against one side, with Ash lying down next to you. Thor took the next bag and Loki the one on the far side of the tent. Once everyone was settled Loki found that it was, indeed, quite warm. A few more quiet words and jokes were shared before each drifted off, one by one.

Loki woke with a start, immediately alarmed by a grating, growling noise. After a moment he calmed, recognizing the source. Thor was deep asleep, and snoring. The tent was illuminated by the moonlight cast through the thin fabric. Loki scowled at this brother for a moment, considering his next course of action when he saw your head rise over the other side of the blond god. Your hair was tousled from sleep, and you leveled a grumpy squint at Thor. Loki had an amused smirk as he shifted up onto his elbow. Your eyes met in mutual understanding, and you questioningly tipped your head toward the door of the tent. He gave a nod in answer, and you unzipped the door, quietly stepping out and pulling your sleeping bag with you. Loki followed and secured the door, leaving the sleeping Thor and Ash, who seemed to be unbothered by the ruckus.

"Snore, God of Thunder." You muttered as you walked away toward the dormant campfire. "That's quite good." "Thanks, I worked really hard on it." Loki scoffed a laugh. "Do you think you can get the fire going again?" You gestured at the charred remains. He placed a few more pieces of wood on the pile, waved a hand, and the fire came crackling to life. You sighed with relief as you sat down against the nearby boulder, your sleeping bag draped over your shoulders. "Magic is so convenient." He took a seat as well. "Yes, I never understood why more of your people don't use it." You laughed. "We have to do things the hard way, I guess." Loki looked out over the vista once more. It was still breathtaking, bathed in the silver-blue glow of the moon. He looked down at you as you shuffled across the ground, huddling against him. "Trying to steal some of your heat." You explained. He chuckled, and gave a lazy wave to the fire, which increased in intensity. "Thanks." You remained against his side. He didn't see the sense in moving.

The two of you sat for a while, admiring the night. Thor's snoring could still be heard in the distance.

"Hey, look, your star is out." You reached an arm out from under your blanket and pointed. "My star?" Loki looked up at the star. It was very bright. "Yeah. Sirius. The Norse called it 'Lokabrenna'." You tucked your arm back under the sleeping bag. "Meaning 'Loki's torch' or 'burning done by Loki'. Or something along those lines, we're not really sure anymore. The story behind it has been lost." He looked up a the star and frowned. "It's Ragnarok." Loki said bitterly. "The burning I cause. Ragnarok. In their stories, I bring the destruction of all the realms in flame. Your ancient people, basic as they were, still knew well enough to cast me as the villain."

You were silent. He regretted it, letting his self-loathing sour the night. It had simply slipped out, risen to the surface unbidden. He took his eyes off the star and watched the fire instead.

After a few minutes you spoke up. "You know the thing that always struck me about the binding of Loki?" He bit back another resentful response, opting instead to hear your thoughts. "What?" "He gets tied up underground with a snake dripping poison on his face, right? After a bunch of other awful stuff, of course. It's terrible, the whole thing is probably the worst punishment they could come up with." You were still gazing at the star. "But his wife is there. She's free, she can do whatever she wants, but she stays beside him and holds a bowl over him to catch the venom. That always stuck with me, that she'd choose to do that, it seemed like its own sort of torture." Your eyes moved from the star down to the fire. "Those ancient people, even when they were dealing him the worst torture they could imagine, they still gave him that. They still deemed him worthy of incredible love and loyalty." You shrugged. "I don't know, it just always seemed significant."

For a moment, he was dumbfounded. Worthy. Of all the words you could have used. He looked at you, but you were gazing at the fire now. He looked up at the star again. It was the brightest one he could see.

"It does seem significant." He admitted. Silence returned for a moment. "Plus," you added, "Some people think Loki was the one that gave humans fire so I think that's just as likely." You looked to him and spoke flatly. "What I'm saying is that you're probably definitely wrong." He couldn't help the smirk. "Probably definitely?" "That's what I said." He chuckled. "In that case I would be a fool not to concede." The two of you quietly watch the fire for several minutes. A particularly loud snore traveled from the tent and you threw your head back in exasperation. "Ugh! Will it ever stop?" "Not likely. I usually have to cast a silencing charm." You looked to him. "You can do that?" "Yes, of course." "Then why are we out here freezing our butts off?" He shrugged. "I assumed you wanted to enjoy my company." "Don't be ridiculous." "I don't believe I was." You brought yourself to your feet. "I want to sleep! Come on."

You marched back toward the tent. Loki extinguished the fire and followed. You stopped outside the door, he snapped his fingers and the grinding snores of Thor abruptly ceased. He opened the door, revealing soundless Thor still sleeping contently, his arm now thrown over Ash. Loki bowed dramatically as he held the flap back for you.

"After you." He gestured to the open door. "My hero." You stepped through.

You both settled back down in your respective places, with a now quietly-sleeping Thor in the middle. Loki stared at the illuminated fabric of the tent and considered his star as he drifted off again to sleep.

Sunlight and birdsong drew Loki from sleep once more. Thor was also stirring, and you were currently leaving the tent with Ash following behind. Loki made sure to drop the silencing charm before stepping outside.

The sun was still rising, glittering across a frosted landscape. Loki joined you on a boulder, admiring the sight.

"Is there ever a time when this view isn't breathtaking?" He asked. "I haven't found one yet." There was the sound of stretching and yawning as Thor exited the tent. "Good morning!" He boomed. "I trust everyone slept as well as I did?" Loki turned to him. "Actually we both woke in the night from a terrible noise. Some kind of beast." Thor's brow furrowed. "A beast? What was it?" "It was a bore." "A boar? Here?" Thor looked around the terrace in disbelief. "Yes, a tiresome bore." Loki glanced at you. You were keeping a straight face but it was clearly a struggle. You tried to elbow him surreptitiously but he casually moved out of the way. "I took care of it." "You should have woken me." "I can assure you, brother, that next time we will." Thor watched the two of you carefully for a moment. "There's something you're not telling me." Loki waved dismissively. "It's not important. At the very least it takes second priority to breakfast."

Breakfast was cooked as the sun climbed. A few more hours were spent in leisure, milling about the terrace, chatting, commenting on the view. It was peaceful. Loki lamented when the time came to break camp. Everything was packed away, and the three of you stood at the edge to take in the landscape one more time before climbing back down the mountain.

When the group reached your cottage Loki returned the extra supplies he had carried and they bid you goodbye. You reached up to hug Thor, as usual. Then you gave Loki the same treatment. He didn't object, and over your shoulder he saw Thor's eyebrows rise.

You went inside and the brothers started down the road to New Asgard in silence for several minutes.

"These humans are so insistent on their physical affection." Loki explained. Thor raised his hands in defense. "I didn't say a word."

KNB CHARACTERS AS BENDERS // Headcanons

A/N: currently on my annual rewatch of Avatar: The Last Airbender, so my brain had to do some mashups yk

Context: if these KNB characters were in ATLA, what kind of bender would they be?

Includes: GOM + Kuroko + Kagami + Momoi

Warning: none (maybe a bit spoiler-ish if you haven't watched ATLA?)

AKASHI

Without a doubt, he's a firebender

Because in the ATLA lore, fire is symbol of power

Also red really is his colour lmao

I'd even say he's the firelord

Not in a megalomaniac, genocide commiting, Ozai way

But in a royalty, knows how to gouvern a whole nation way

I wanna say he's the most powerful firebender out there too... but is he?

I think he is obviously very skilled, but since firebending requires aggression and Akashi is more the kind to think his actions, I don't think he's the most powerful

He's crazy good though, that's for sure

My dude trains more than anyone else to perfectionnate his bending

100% can lighting bend because he's self-aware enough to control his emotion and achieve the mental state to do so

MIDORIMA

I'm very tempted to say that green boy is an earthbender because of his colour palette

But I'd say he's an earthbender because of who he is

In canon, earthbenders are very traditional, down-to-earth, and conventional

They follow rules, and it's all about being anchored

So that would make sense

I also think he'd be a professor at the Ba Sing Se university because he's smart

He could also be a general

Regardless of his position in the Earth Kingdom, he is a respected earthbender

He trains a lot, knows all the forms perfectly

And he gives a certain elegance to that form of bending too

Might be the only earthbender out there with perfectly manicured hands lol

Kinda going outside of ATLA here and touching into TLOK lore but he'd be such a skilled mental bender

Like Zao Fu citizen level of good at mental bending

KISE

See, this one is hard

Because personality wise he doesn't really align with any of the four nations and their philosophies

His personality is so volatile (gemini king things), lowkey tempted to make him the Avatar lol

Which would make sense, because just like he can assimilate the techniques of other players, he can master all forms of bending

My only issue with this, is that he doesn't come off as selfless and wise enough to be the Avatar

I know he'd help someone if need be, but I feel like he's more willing to put his life on the line for those he loves

Whereas being the Avatar recquires to risk your life for everyone regardless of your relationship to them

Unless he is willing to learn how to become a mediator and servant of the people

But even if he is the Avatar, he needs to come from a specific nation

Given how he's good at getting along with people, he can probably be an airbender

He doesn't have the monk vibe with him but Air Nomads are known for their diplomatic nature

Kinda fits him I guess

He can also be a water bender, but I cannot visualize him doing water bending, if that makes any sense?

AOMINE

Fire? yes, BUT

He has a lot of fluidity in his movements, which makes me think of water (obviously)

I'd say that Daiki is the child of a firebender and a waterbender

So he's inherited the firebending, but he uses waterbending techniques

Leave it to Daiki to have the most unconventional technique in all of the Fire Nation

Fire makes sense for him because he can be quite passionate when it comes to it, you know

I could have gone with waterbending solely, but I can't see him aligning with the spirit of it

Like waterbenders are expected to adapt to change easily, but I don't think Daiki can do that

Love the guy, but the last time he's gone through a major change in his life, he went into depression sooo

Whereas fire relies on power and passion, both of which he has

So yeah, he's gotta be a firebender with waterbender moves

MURASAKIBARA

In canon, airbenders are the tallest people so the easy choice would to make his giant ass an airbender

But personality wise, it doesn't work

He's a grumpy introvert, I can't see him go around being wise and nice lmao

Also he's lazy like, can you see him flying around and shit?

Based on that, I want to make him an earthbender

Solely because that bending style recquires to be grounded, so basically you need to have a solid base and then you bend

This wouldn't ask him to move a lot

I mean, yeah, he'd still have to move a bit lol

But less than the other bending style

And I can 100% see him being one of these naturally gifted benders

My boy can carve a mountain effortlessly

He'd be that good

Also can see him love Earth Kingdom food more than any other nation's cuisine

KUROKO

He'd be such a good waterbender omg

I don't think I need to justify myself too much here because it just makes sense

He's got the fluidity, and the ability to adapt to situations

Also his values align with Water Tribe values

It's all about protecting the community and working together, and Kuroko is all about team work so that make sense

Also I know in canon, there's no male waterbender that can heal

But I know he'd be a healer too

I really don't know what to say more because to me it's an evidence, you know?

KAGAMI

FIREBENDER. PERIOD.

Although with his jumping abilities he could be an airbender

But come on

It's literally in his name

He's so damn passionate and lively

Maybe a bit aggressive too, so it fits perfectly

I said that I don't think Akashi would be the best firebender out there, and that's because Kagami exists

Firebender! Kagami has such fire inside of him that it's like he's invented firebending himself

I think he perfectly represents the spirit of firebending

Also can you see him having his own dragon

(Side note: he'd be so hot in Fire Nation clothes)

MOMOI

She's got major Ty Lee vibes

But Ty Lee is a non-bender sooo

I was thinking waterbender, because she's caring and stuff

But airbender? Makes absolute sense too

Because girl is a pacifist

Also Momo-Momoi

See? She's made to be an airbender

No, in all seriousness it does fit her

She's a people's person who has everyone's best interest at heart

Like airbenders

So it fits in that sense

Although I can't really see her with the airbender tattoos though lmao

Regardless, she'd be good at it too!

Before I get into it, I want to state that is EXPLICITLY an analysis of the Characters, and is not intended to touch on how the cc’s played them in a meta sense unless specifically stated otherwise.

Also, this is technically a part two to my other post, which took a more in depth look at Techno and Phil’s reactions to Tommy’s death. It’s not necessary when reading this post, but I don’t address their reactions here.

So. The question must be asked.

Are we [the Syndicate] the baddies?

Yes.

That's not how this works.

Yeah, yeah. You’re right.

The Syndicate's goals as an organization are not inherently bad. They seem to have good intentions behind them, and the focus on the freedom of it's individual group members is important to remember when talking about it; It is not a government. There is no hierarchical power system. No one is forced to do anything against their will, or surrender any of their rights or power to remain a member. It is not a government.

I also want to address Techno and Phil backing Ranboo into a corner – I see them getting a lot of flack for this, but I personally do not think it is relevant to the greater discussion, or necessarily representative of any contradictions within the organization. It was clearly played for laughs, and after they back off they clarify to Ranboo that they won't force him. Then later when Phil and Ranboo are alone, Ranboo feels safe enough to express that he felt like he was pressured into it, and Phil assures him he is allowed to leave whenever he wants; He is not being forced to do anything, and he is not being coerced or blackmailed.

None of the Syndicate members have done any wrongs against each other in the context of the Syndicate, OR gone against any of the Syndicate's core principles.

That, said, holy shit are they the baddies.

Listen, there's trying to telegraph a meaning or message to the audience and then there's having your logo be wither skulls on blackstone. That is straight out of the skit I keep referencing, seriously.

Okay, but, they laughed at it! It was played as a joke, just like the Ranboo thing!

The Ranboo thing was improv, the Syndicate's headquarters were planned – the artistic choices that they made reflect on what role they want the build and the organization inhabiting it to play in the future storylines.

Wither Skulls kind of have some CONNOTATIONS. Techno is an English major, I don't think he chose the most threatening imagery possible on accident, and then joked about the way people would interpret it just to stir the pot. This reads as hugely intentional.

And beyond that, the jokes they make during this part aren't “haha yeah, we look bad but we're actually good!” they're “you can tell by looking at these that we're the good guys wink wink, this is good guy stuff right here :)” It is a joke about how they are definitely not the good guys. This isn't even a case of unreliable narrators, this is one step down from flat out saying the meta intent.

But okay, I hear you, I'm talking about things that haven't happened yet. The Syndicate hasn't used any Withers, they could be an aesthetic choice.  Lets look at what they do in practice.

So, they barge into private property, assess Snowchester's right to continue existing based entirely on their own ideals of what Freedom is, and then only once Tubbo assures them that they have no standing leader do they grant the place their approval to, and I gotta stress this part, continue existing.

 In my Quackity meta, I already talked about how Government in the context of a M1necraft RP cannot be compared to IRL Governments on a one-to-one scale. They don't serve the same purposes or have the same type of power. What I didn't talk about was Agency in the context of m1necraft governments.

In an irl government, if you are born into one, you can't really leave without committing a massive overhaul on your life, which can be expensive and difficult, if not impossible for many people. Even in a “benevolent” government, the simple physicality of where you were born can prevent you from leaving it easily.

The same hurdles do not exist in the Dream SMP. People who join M1necraft governments choose to. They want to, either at the beginning when they form one, or later on when they join up. So far, no Government has just Sprung Up and forced the current residents of an area to become dependent on them, except maybe the Eggpire, who's status as a government is... shakey.

And even when people want to leave or separate from the government, they have been historically able to do so without any trouble or any effort from said governments to stop them. Jack Manifold emancipated from Manberg. Fundy and Quackity both left to start new nations. In all cases they were allowed to do so without any attempts on the part of the governments to stop them, either through force, or institutions preventing them from doing so.

The most anyone has lost when leaving a government is their house, which is still usually their property anyway, and is something that is easily rebuilt elsewhere and is inconvenient to move anyway.

The only exceptions to this might be Schlatt exiling Wilbur and Tommy - but even then, they weren’t trying to leave, they were trying to get back in, and of course the original L’manberg revolution, where Dream attempted to force L’manberg back into the Dream SMP, which wasn’t even a government at that point in time.

I don’t consider Phil’s house arrest an example of a government forcing someone to stay a citizen - that was treated less as a matter of a citizen wanting to leave the country and more as a threat to national security. Still pretty fucked up, but it’s a different issue.

What I'm saying is, If Tubbo wants to create a government out in the middle of nowhere, threatening no one, forcing no one to join either through force or desperation, and allowing people to join willingly because they want to, then he should be allowed to do that.

The Irony of the Syndicate, a group of people consisting of some of the richest, strongest people on the server, going around and enforcing 'Freedom' that entails no one person having more power than any other, is absurd. 

It shows an extreme lack of self-awareness and/or self-righteousness, as they seem to think that they deserve to be the ones who decide what constitutes a government.

Snowchester is a small independent nation - they shouldn’t have to live in fear of being obliterated if they don’t walk on eggshells to meet an arbitrary standard decided by people who’s only authority on the matter COMES FROM THEIR PERSONAL POWER. No one elected them! No one chose them! They were not “approved” by the server at large to enact this kind of law.

The Syndicate are not a government, but they are an unsupervised power structure exerting their ideals on a land that did not ask for them. Like, These people have invented an actual Authoritarian-Anarchist faction. How the hell did they manage this?????

Back on topic.

Tubbo shows them the crater left by his nukes. The reaction is oddly positive – the nukes are fine by the morals of the Syndicate, apparently. I'd argue that they come across as more impressed than anything else; they seem to respect Tubbo for having gotten ahold of “real” power.

(There's a few good memes out there about “We can excuse nuclear weaponry, but we draw the line at Government!”)

So. By the Syndicate's standards: A single person or group of acceptably equal persons with weapons of mass-destruction are only worth “keeping an eye on” because they might provoke other people.

Like, I consider Project Dreamcatcher to be one of, if not the most morally ambiguous thing Tubbo has ever done, largely because it was all on his own initiative. He holds some culpability for The Butcher Army and Phil's house arrest, but they weren't his ideas and he was mostly following Quackity at that point.

And Phil tells Tubbo, IMMEDIATELY AFTER SEEING THE NUCLEAR CRATER:

“Looks like you've reformed a little bit Tubbo, I'm proud.”

And it's fine. Crimes against nature? Fine. A sign of healing in fact!! Tubbo is having a sweeeelll time and he definitely didn't make these nukes specifically in fear of being attacked by these exact people! Tubbo is doing great. Tubbo is doing fine. Tubbo. is. FINE.

Anyway.

I don't think this presentation of the Syndicate was an accident. Looking at the greater lore of SMP right now, after the Egg is done, their list of enemies is slim, and considering that they seem solely invested in taking down governments, that leaves maybe Snowchester, Kinoko Kingdom, and Eret and the greater Dream SMP.

Snowchester has not been shown to be corrupt, evil, or have any intent to go down that route. The most ambiguous thing they've done is, again, is the nukes. Other than that, it's pretty much your average cottagecore snow village.

Kinoko is presented in an even more morally 'good' light, Karl having founded it specifically for his Time-travel library purposes, which are currently being treated by the narrative as a selfless act, if not downright heroic.

Eret is also a fairly 'good' aligned character atm. He's been on that redemption grind since the og betrayal, and doesn't seem keen on backtracking. He's actively tried to leverage his position as king to make things better, and hasn't been quiet about that. He was also 'validated' by Tommy*, a character who has been described both by his allies and enemies as “the hero,” so take that as you will.

What I'm getting at is, all of the current potential enemies for the Syndicate aside from the Egg, are currently being cast as 'good,' and if they were to be attacked, they would undoubtedly have the moral high-ground, unless something drastically changed.

The only potential shakeups I can think of is are a Dream escape and/or a Wilbur revival, both of which could draw the Syndicate's attention and ire, depending on how things go. That said, it's just as likely that either or both of them would join the Syndicate – Dream still has that favor, and Phil and Techno both seemed to think Wilbur would've agreed with their blowing up L'manberg.

Both of those characters are currently **villains – the fact that they're both prime candidates for the Syndicate is a huge indication of the direction it's going to go as the plot moves forward.

((*I know some people are gonna come at me for painting Tommy as the “deciding factor” of what is morally good, so lemme just stop you there. I'm not talking about Tommy somehow having the 'right' to decide who is and isn't good, and definitely not the right to decide who should and shouldn't be king. I'm saying that Tommy, a character who the narrative treats as, if not a good person, then a person who is trying to be good, was in support of Eret, a character who has also been trying to be good.

Eret doesn't gain the moral highground because Tommy said so, he gets it because a character who the narrative treats as trying to do better, acknowledged Eret's earnest attempts at doing the same.

**I'm referring to Wilbur here as a villain because Tommy seemed convinced he would be if he were to be brought back. There is always the possibility that he's wrong.))

So, to summarize this: I read the Syndicate as being intentionally positioned as future antagonists, if not outright villains of a future arc. They are NOT a Government but their goals are contradictory with their means, and it is important to keep in mind that they plan to enforce their own brand of freedom on people who did not grant them either the authority or permission to do so.

So, uh. Can you tell I loved these streams? They were seriously so good. I kept switching between Ranboo and Techno's POV's trying to keep up with everything. I still have to watch Niki's!

All in all, I'm super, super excited for whats coming next, egg stuff, Syndicate stuff, Tommy stuff, all of it.

The Golden Guard: Eda’s Dark Parallel?

           Does anyone else think that the Golden Guard actually reminds Lilith a LOT of Eda, specifically Eda as a kid, during the good old days before she got cursed?

           Think about it… They’re both sassy, hot-headed teen prodigies with an owl motif and yellow attire. And the way Lilith angrily talks about the Golden Guard, it seems her feelings of resentment mirror how she felt towards Eda back when they were kids? Lilith, who was by-the-book and traditional, worked so hard… And then there’s this younger person with an Owl motif who just swoops in out of nowhere and through talent, completely outclasses her!

           If you go with the idea that Lilith wanted Gwendolyn’s approval and had to compete with Eda over that… Then for all we know, maybe Lilith lowkey wanted Belos’ approval as well, but felt like she was being cheated out of that with the Golden Guard, who kept stealing the spotlight from her! 

          Like she was afraid he’d take her spot as head of the Emperor’s Coven, the way Lilith feared that Eda would win the initiation duel back when they were kids… And lo and behold, the Golden Guard DID take that! Granted Lilith left an obvious vacancy from her own betrayal of Belos so of course he took that spot, but still; It’s quite a sore spot.

           In some ways, perhaps Lilith is aware of this, deep-down or not; She might see the Golden Guard as just Young Eda, but without any of the emotional connection, nor any redeeming qualities; If he does have them, again, it’s not like Lilith knows the Golden Guard well enough to know these traits, much less take them into account.

           LOTS of text and speculation and analyses below!!!

           The Golden Guard is even sixteen years old… Which, is very likely EDA’s age, back when her and Lilith competed for the Emperor’s Coven! That can take on a whole new, dark meaning for her… 

          Perhaps Lilith is low-key disturbed by the Golden Guard’s existence, because he reminds her too much of Young Eda? Eda, before she was cursed- So it’s like the memory of her is coming back to haunt Lilith, in the form of someone who has no concern for Lilith whatsoever to hold him back, unlike the actual Eda.

           And in a way, it’s a horrible reminder that some things never change, that some things stay the same and Lilith can’t get past them, she can’t outgrow it like she thought she did; Because even now, even as head of the Emperor’s Coven, there’s still a 16-year-old prodigy with an owl motif and yellow attire, who is sassy and playful and mischievous, who threatens to upstage Lilith’s self-esteem and sense of power. Somebody Lilith is afraid of; Thirty years later, and she STILL has to deal with this kind of person in her life, but it’s worse because she’s actually older and should be better, yet somehow isn’t…

           Who knows? Maybe Lilith even recognized the similarities to Eda, enough to actually be sympathetic to the Golden Guard at first? Perhaps she, on some level, saw the Golden Guard as a way to vicariously redo her past with Eda, but without the mistakes… Maybe she tried to be nice to the Golden Guard, but then he quickly turned out to be a snob, he’s not REALLY Eda; So Lilith settled on never cursing him like she did Eda, but then otherwise decided that she didn’t owe him any love and could just quietly loathe his guts.

          Lilith failed Eda in part because she was an older sister who abandoned her in a time of need, but there’s not really that expectation with the Golden Guard, so why bother? She’s got enough on her plate as is, and an ACTUAL Eda to worry about, to look after, to be concerned for and patch things up with.

           I’ve even seen people make the very good point that in a lot of ways… The Golden Guard is like a Dark Eda? In the sense that, he’s Eda, had she joined the Emperor’s Coven as a kid. He’s a look at Young Eda, if she didn’t reject the Coven System, and joined Belos- Reveling in her own talent and power as granting her ‘special treatment’ over the rest, so any downsides to the coven system weren’t HER problem anyway!

           Again, this adds another layer to the Golden Guard being very reminiscent of Young Eda, and even current Eda as well… Except, he never lost his magic and was never cursed. Maybe that’s another thing he unknowingly haunts Lilith over; He’s lowkey a reminder of what Eda could’ve been, had Lilith not been selfish and a coward, or had she communicated better. Yet at the same time, he’s frustrating- Because the Golden Guard is like the worst parts of Eda, the parts that Lilith hated and made her resentful…

           And this constant reminder of the past, of her own issues with Eda back then that culminated in the curse- It could’ve made it a LOT harder for Lilith to really resolve things with Eda, because this kid keeps reminding her why she was so angry, and it’s impossible for her to move on because the Golden Guard isn’t some distant memory, but an actual person who continues to threaten her, the way Eda had…

          And of course, the Golden Guard reminds Lilith of the Eda she lost; The happy, carefree Eda who wasn’t cursed, the Eda she could’ve had in a sense. The Eda that Lilith in some ways wanted, yet is forced to confront and acknowledge is a very obnoxious and terrible person that makes her unhappy…

          And this kind of rude reminder that the Eda that Lilith wanted would’ve continued to make her miserable, if not moreso, is not something she appreciates shattering her dreams and low-key denial, of a world where things had just been a little different.

          The person you’re trying to get, maybe get BACK, wasn’t so great after all- So you just have to move on, and be glad for the Eda who IS happier with her life and more mature, despite being older and more cursed. You gotta move past your guilt Lilith, and realize that Eda is in a better place- Not that she ever needed the curse, but she doesn’t quite need saving from the parts of her life she actually chose for herself, in part to be kind to Lilith no less! Because I bet Lilith believes that deep down, she didn’t deserve Eda’s kindness, so she wishes to reverse that compassionate decision of Eda’s that only resulted in Eda suffering because of how terrible Lily secretly is.

           But, back to the subject; There’s more similarities to Eda and the Golden Guard, especially at the end of Separate Tides; How he makes an ominous warning before casually, happily yelling “BYYEEEE!!!”, just like Eda when she warns Luz about trying to have a Moonlight Conjuring in Hooty’s Moving Hassle, before heading off to the Night Market. His widow’s peak even bears a decent resemblance to Eda’s, doesn’t it? Which…

           Combined with all of the talk about bird motifs being a Clawthorne thing, it DOES raise many questions about the Golden Guard’s potential connection to Eda. Is he some long-lost son? A third child that Gwendolyn had later in life, because witch biology might allow them to do that? Some homunculus, crafted from bits of DNA from Eda, and maybe even Belos? Belos does seem weirdly fond and trusting of him, the two are placed together in the Season 2 outro when nobody else, not even Kikimora, is there; And of course, the Golden Guard wields a staff, red magic, and fleshy creations, VERY similar to Belos…

           I can’t say for sure- But the idea of the Golden Guard as an alternate Eda is fascinating. An Eda who became completely arrogant, and didn’t stop to care about others; Her cockiness and mischief becoming cruel and obnoxious, essentially the worst parts of Eda, down the path she’d always dreaded. A look into another life, a different choice in such a pivotal part of her past… Personally, I LOVE this kind of dark parallel of a character, so I’m hoping these similarities are commented upon in-universe, assuming they’re not outright literal!

           In a way, the Golden Guard could haunt Eda, because he reminds her of herself… Of her carefree youth, but what she could’ve had… But also, the terrible things she’d done. And obviously Eda despises the coven system too much to really change her mind, and it’s safe to say that the Golden Guard is not at all what she wanted to ever become… But still, it’s a neat bit of character writing and parallelism. If Belos is like a Dark Luz, what Luz could’ve been had she not grown… And the same could apply between King and Kikimora;

           Then who knows? The Golden Guard could be a Dark Eda, who got by talent and continued to take things for granted. An Eda who swore loyalty to Belos and was embraced by the emperor for her skill and ability. Jovial and cheery, but without any of the actual compassion that makes this genuine with Eda. An immature brat who never grew up (granted he’s only sixteen and hasn’t gotten the chance), unlike Eda. And if the Golden Guard is an alternate Eda;

           It’s fascinating how his roles are reversed with his alternate Luz… The Eda parallel is younger than the Luz parallel, learning from them, and taking after their motifs as well! But I guess it’s not all too surprising, with how Eda and Luz both learn from one another, though I suspect Belos and the Golden Guard aren’t as mutual, but who knows? 

          It does make you wonder about Kikimora and King as potential mediators between these duos, whose placement remains consistent… How does Kikimora, the King parallel, interact with her Luz and Eda? Did she become close friends with HER Luz, while, as Dana’s art suggests, she seems somewhat irritated by and resentful of her own Eda? So it’s like Eda and King never grew to be friends and conquer differences… As well as if King never grew to respect Luz and saw her as just a “f*cking nerd”?

           With how Luz is taking after Eda, and possibly getting a Cardinal palisman to complete the Clawthorne motif as a new member of the family… Who knows? The Golden Guard could be an intriguing character for her to bounce off of narratively, maybe as someone Luz might have, in another universe, learned to look up to and admire? How well Luz’s relationship be with the Golden Guard, if they are a Dark Eda? And how can this indirectly show us about how Luz and Young Eda would’ve interacted, what Young Eda was like, what Lilith went through as a kid…

           And, for all we know- The Golden Guard’s owl motif doesn’t hint at a pre-existing connection to the Clawthornes, but rather a future one… Maybe he’ll end up being adopted by Eda, the way Luz was? I’d love to see the Golden Guard become an evil older sibling who’s protective of Luz… 

          I ADORE that trope to death; Evil older brother with bright, younger sister, whom he cares about, and the sister cares for him too, even if it’s complicated because the sister believes in the brother to be better, while the brother doesn’t want to be better, or is at least reluctant about having to change…

           I’d love to see another Hugo and Kipo dynamic, and actually… If the Golden Guard parallels Eda, then who’s his Lilith? Could it be Luz herself? I’ve talked before the similarities between Luz and Lilith, as kids who were bullied and struggled with a lack of talent, but made up for it with hard work and ingenuity; They’ll give you a lot of trouble for doing the right thing, but then happily leap at the opportunity if they think someone is improving.

           And, as Separate Tides has also shown us; They both grapple with guilt over making Eda suffer, unintentionally to varying degrees. Luz and Lilith both learn that they’re not a burden and that it’s okay to ask for help, and come to terms with their guilt with Eda… If Belos and the Golden Guard are Luz and Eda reversed, then could Luz and the Golden Guard also be Lilith and Luz, reversed?

          With the Eda parallel being the older sibling in this scenario… An alternate timeline where Eda and Lilith were the same people, but switched places in birth, and it was EDA who ended up being the cruel and toxic sibling who left the younger feeling demeaned and worthless. I imagine if that were the case, the Golden Guard’s toxicity would occur largely in the beginning, as he acts adversarial to Luz and mocks her, taunts her over Eda’s loss of magic, and her own glyphs no doubt; The Golden Guard doesn’t seem to acknowledge glyphs as a valid form of magic himself.

           But then, if he were to get a redemption, the Golden Guard’s tune might change as he matures and learns to treat Luz more kindly… In a way mimicking how Eda really grew to care for Luz, but also the way Eda has begun to reconnect with Lilith, except with the Golden Guard as the one with the baggage and guilt.

           And, a redemption might not be too implausible, because… He is literally only sixteen, the same age as Emira and Edric, and likely the same age as Eda when SHE was cursed. Younger than Lilith, when she made the worst mistake of her life, because she didn’t understand the coven system for what it truly was –and who could blame her?- and was grappling with a likely terrible mother in Gwendolyn… The Golden Guard is literally a minor, and possibly an overworked teen prodigy.

           After all, the first glimpse of his personality Dana gave us, way back in 2020, was of the Golden Guard admitting that he was tired; And despite his usually cheery personality, all of our glimpses at his face behind the mask (symbolism!) have had him look likely serious and glum… But then again, we don’t see the lower half of his face, so who knows? 

          Perhaps the Golden Guard is abused and overworked by Belos, kind of like Amity with her parents… The Golden Guard is a child dealing with a very toxic influence, and a huge burden of responsibility no less. And with all the potential connections to Belos as maybe even a literal father, or at least a parental figure, it’s not hard to see why the Golden Guard would turn out so messed up. And the Golden Guard being ‘tired’ could be a connection to how Eda is left exhausted from her curse, too.

           So, who knows? Because of his age, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect, or at least hope, for a redemption for this kiddo. But a recent sister show to The Owl House has taught me anything, kids aren’t free from death, and Infinity Train made it clear that you can humanize and sympathize and mourn someone who deserved better, yet ultimately dug their grave and was condemned to a sudden death because of that; All because they didn’t know any better, and really couldn’t have.

           And on another note- Maybe the Golden Guard has owl motifs like Eda… Because in a lot of ways, he actually admires her? He admires the Owl Lady, or at least the certain ‘past’ version that others such as Lilith may have brought up… Maybe the Golden Guard seeks to supplant Eda the Owl Lady as The Most Powerful Witch in the Boiling Isles. Maybe he sees himself as Eda, but better, and this rebellious, hot-headed kid feels the need to prove himself by defeating someone he sees himself in.

           Maybe the Golden Guard is like Lilith, as someone who wishes Eda could’ve joined the coven system, and he’s disappointed in how all her talent was ‘wasted’ on other things. Maybe the Golden Guard was disappointed in Eda losing her magic, losing further respect for his ‘problematic idol’, and/or he felt some validation and vindication in being a successor to Eda. 

          Does he hold some grudge? Did the Owl Lady’s power excite him, give the Golden Guard a goal to recklessly challenge and defeat, so he can experience the thrill of victory and add to this feeling of invincibility that teenagers, especially the talented ones, have?

           Eda as a kid, and even now, has always been fond of spiting what others say she can’t do, or setting new precedents and accomplishments to prove herself. Maybe the Golden Guard is like that, and hopes to take on the onus of outdoing the Owl Lady; Perhaps he admires Eda, and wishes she could’ve joined a coven like him. As an outside admirer, he mourns Eda’s ‘potential’ in a way similar to Lilith, but different; Because he’s a kid who looks up to her, and not an older sibling that has an actual childhood with Eda. If so, then that’s another dark parallel to Luz;

           After all, Luz got frustrated by Eda in Adventures in the Elements. So maybe the Golden Guard is someone who grew resentful of Eda for not living up to the legend he hoped, the image he wanted, sort of like Lilith! I’ll go out on a limb and even suggest him as a past apprentice, who unlike Luz, never learned to be patient and appreciate Eda’s teachings, so he turned to the coven system and Belos for easy gratification. He didn’t want to be challenged… And in that way, the Golden Guard could parallel my speculation on Belos, as also a Dark Luz.

          So of course, it makes sense that Belos would recognize this same dilemma in the Golden Guard, and perhaps be sympathetic and take him under his wing for it. Eda might not recognize the Golden Guard because he’s changed a bit himself, is hiding his own identity –Lilith doesn’t seem to know much about the witch beneath the mask either, just the public image and façade- and Eda’s been having memory issues. Maybe this will add to the Golden Guard’s resentment, who knows? He really might just be a rebellious teen who Eda failed, unlike with Luz… And that could add to more envy, perhaps.

           At the very least; Dana’s fondness for the Golden Guard takes on a whole new meaning… What with how Eda is pretty much one of, if not THE most favorite character of hers, the one who really jumpstarted this entire show and world to begin with… Having this other character she likes essentially be a canon AU version of that beloved creation, would certainly make a lot of sense! Dana likes Eda, she likes to show us about Young Eda; So a character who IS Young Eda, just on a different path, would likely appeal to her. We’ll see…

           I think it’s worth noting that in her art of the Golden Guard, it depicts him as essentially a normal, lazy teenager who’s asking someone else to do his chore for him, while he lounges around to do something else. I could see a young Eda as occasionally fulfilling that role and asking her older sister Lily for a favor- And maybe this could allude to the Golden Guard being frequently exhausted from being overworked himself, hence “I’m tired” and wanting to extend his breaks as much as possible. We’ll just have to wait and see…

favorite thing about them - his overall character is just SO good. I love how he grows into his role as leader and you can tell he’s dying for some found family bullshit and he just does everything he can to take care of his team and keep everyone alive while also being fair and strong but he’s a human 18 year old and stumbles and has his moments and I just think his characterization is SO great. Really really good stuff, he’s such a likeable character. Vert is clearly so incredibly stressed all the time but handles it so well, I think growing up without his dad (and believing he was abandoned) made him decide to NOT become that and so he does everything he can to be there for his team and that’s so sad but also so mature of him I love you vert

least favorite thing about them - nothing. bf5 vert is what perfection looks like. I’d like to be his stepdad

favorite line - I can’t remember the line but when he said it the delivery was so funny. When he says something sarcastic with a big smile it’s the best he’s such a punk. I love vert have I mentioned that. Always coming up with the bangers he’s such a king

brOTP - I love the Vert/Zoom brOTP like vert having a chance to be an older brother to anyone is so cute.  - Stanford/Vert brOTP is soooo goooood. I love thinking of them bonding over just being so overwhelmed and stressed out by the shit life throws at them all the time. Vert helps Stanford stay grounded and Stanford offers Vert an outlet to just bitch all he wants about whatever. I think they’d get on really well one-on-one. Bond stronger than steel forged through dealing with Simon tbh - the vert/agura brOTP is strong with this one, she is his right hand arm man, his silly rabbit or whatever. Vert can trust her with anything but he also knows in the back of his mind he has to make sure she doesn’t kill someone. She makes sure he doesn’t throw himself off a cliff see that’s called equivalent exchange or whatever

OTP - I love tezzvert I think their dynamic is really great, I have always loved how vert always has tezz’s back but never hesitates to call him out and make him take accountability for his actions. Vert backs him up when he needs it and is sooo patient with him. I loved watching their mutual respect clearly grow for each other and it was a really amazing moment when Tezz acknowledged Vert as the capable leader and deferred to him, not out of obligation but because he finally saw what a great leader and person Vert is and it’s like.. if tezz admits that then you know you’re legit. - I am also a HUGE sucker for vert/AJ I think it’s SO damn cute. I have a lot of thoughts and feelings on this pairing, like it can go so much deeper than friendship so fast but I think AJ wouldn’t let it go fast because he respects and loves Vert too much to jeopardize their friendship just because he’s been in love with you since you came to the Yukon as an angry and hurting teenager. I could talk about them all day but I’ll just say man. Man these two can hold so much love for each other

random headcanon - I know vert’s eyes are SO beautiful I’ve said it before but it needs repeating. He has long eyelashes and super pretty eyes and is just like. Casually glamorous. He got it from his dad and neither of them are aware of it. kings you are GORGEOUS - another headcanon I think vert participates in extreme sports out of a lack of self preservation and the desire to distract himself with huge thrills. I think AJ recognized that when they met and he got to know him and that may have been the start of AJ’s “life mission: protect vert wheeler” mode

Timekeeper's assistants AU

Alright y'all! This is gonna be my info dump post for the Timekeepers assistant Au- buckle up cause it's gonna be a long one!

Inspired by @queendibz post here

The entire purpose of the assistant squad is to keep all the time lines running smoothly- this can range from stopping a world ending event to making sure things misplaced by natural ghost portals get put back into the right time and place.

So First up on the crew list,

Dan:

-Dan definitely isn't a homicidal maniac anymore but he's not 100 percent "redeemed" either.

-I mean he's probably still a bit of sadist but he tries not to be?

-The best description I can give is that he's in recovery, basically.

-So, Clockwork knew that Dan would eventually bust out of the thermos just because it wasn't built to hold a ghost of his power level for a prolonged period of time. But beyond that?? He has no idea about anything in regards to Dan. Since Dan's creation was averted, his timeline doesn't exist anymore. He's a paradox that exists outside of time, and unfortunately, that means he's the one entity in the multiverse that exists in Clockwork's blindspot. There's no way for him to know what Dan's going to do next.

-Anyway, Dan eventually breaks out of the thermos fully intending to Fuck Shit Up, And Clockwork makes a point of informing him that if he leaves the clock tower he will cease to exist. (Like Dan, the tower exists outside of time, so he's safe there.)

-Dan is the first member of the assistant squad. Granted, it took a while for him to come around to the idea of helping Clockwork but he got there eventually.

-Dan is an entity that was born out of the rage and grief of two very broken people and he has so much shit he's working through as a result

-One of the first things he had to do was recognize and accept that he's an entity that's completely separate from Vlad and Danny. He might have all their memories and the weight of their mistakes on his shoulders, and on top of that, the atrocities he himself committed because of them. The first step is realizing that he doesn't have to be defined by the people that made him.

-It's a really fucking difficult thing to do tho and he's got a lot of weird emotions in regards to Vlad, Danny and the Fentons as a result. A near constant identity crisis, self loathing, daddy issues, something that could arguably be called an Oedipus complex, (FUCKING THANKS, VLAD)

-Cannot stand the smell of fast food, it makes him nauseous and the sight of Nasty Burger sauce alone is enough to make him vomit Ectoplasm.

-He's just a hot mess all around y'all

-He tries to keep his interactions with the Danny's as minimal as possible at first bc of this. The first time he meets them in person he shape shifts into Danny like he did in TUE and just pretends to be one of them. Some of them have had interactions with their respective Dan's already and would be super wary of him and probably pretty freaked out otherwise.

-Dan is eventually allowed to leave the clocktower for supervised "Field missions" with the aid of a time medallion to keep him from poofing out of existence, but it takes a while for clockwork to build up that level of trust.

-Dan's shapeshifting ability Actually comes into play a bit on a lot of those missions, since he can Mimic Danny it also makes sense that he'd be able to impersonate Vlad in the same way. Granted he's not incredibly comfortable taking on either of their appearances but it does help him hone his shapeshifting ability to the point where he's able to pick and choose features from both Vlad and Danny and sorta make his own human disguise.

-Most of the time he acts as the eye in the sky from the tower, monitoring for timeline anomalies and then notifying the appropriate member of the assistant squad.

-He has a room under the clock tower that he operates from. I kinda like the idea of there being like, catacombs down there? Anyway he's got all kinds of monitors and view screens and he very rarely leaves. It also doubles as his "living space." He doesn't need to sleep but he's got a big mess of a pillow fort that he crashes in regardless bc sometimes you just NEED to be unconscious for a while. The catacombs are also absolutely full of those little blob ghosts that wander around the zone bc They're attracted to the ecto energy the tower gives off. He's really annoyed by them at first but they grow on him after a while and now he just dotes on them.

-There's a specific throw pillow sized one that likes to hang out in Dan's room a lot and he ended up getting a little over attached to the stupid thing. His name is Dorian. Bc he's a gift.

-SIR THATS MY EMOTIONAL SUPPORT BLOB

-Dan's appearance has changed slightly. He wears his hair loose now and it's kinda just this big fiery mane when it's not contained. His cape is more of a cloak now, it has a hood and he wears it sorta pinned together at the shoulder so the DP logo is covered.

-Dan's relationship with the rest of the Danny's is kinda weird, and a little strained. He has a hard time being around them for very long because, well, he used to sort of be them? Except not really? He does care about them tho, and the last thing he'd want is for one of them to end up like him.

-His relationship with clockwork definitely starts out pretty familial, after he becomes his assistant, anyway. There's room for that to develop into meddling minutes but I'm not entirely sure if I'm gonna go that route yet.

-The Danny's only ever hear his voice for a while before he finally let's them meet him for real, so they end up calling him Charlie for a while as a joke. Cause Ya know. Charlie's angels. Even after Charlie still ends up being his designated name on missions.

Mer! Danny:

-Was recruited bc a lot of the shit that gets sucked through natural portals ends up in a body of water somewhere and when that happens he's on call to retrieve it.

-Is Actually not at all ghostly! Mer Danny's situation is basically the plot of H2O (just add water), or if you haven't seen that, Aquamarine. And by that I mean he's only a merfolk in water.

-He's an electric eel

-His Jack and Maddie are marine biologists, with a particular interest in marine cryptids

-We're taking sea monsters baby!!!

-Not entirely sure how this Danny ended up half mer yet but I'll figure it out, lmao.

-14 years old

-His nickname/ designation is "Moray"

Crown Prince! Danny:

-Nickname/designation is Prince / Princey

-16 years old

-Not allowed to go anywhere in the zone without the Fright knight bc of some ancient ghost law bullshit, so he has a constant babysitter.

-He's next in line bc he sealed away Pariah, but can't take the throne until he is both, A) at least 18 years and B) Completely deceased

-Vlad is his Regent bc he did have a part in the whole sealing the previous king thing, but he's also not completely dead so his power is super limited there.

-As Prince Danny has the crown of fire in his ghost form, although now the name is kinda ironic seeing as it's completely frozen over. It's blue now and it smokes like dry ice.

-As Regent, Vlad has the ring of rage for "safe keeping"

-Vlad and Danny are pretty much constantly at each other's throats, fright knights probably had to shut down more than a few of Vlad's attempts to usurp the crown from Danny through combat.

-Princey deals with the timeline issues that involve the ghost zones' internal / political affairs, and he's gotten very well versed with dealing with the Observants.

Winged! Danny :

-15 years old

-Mallard duck wings

-His Vlad is a swan

-Comes from a family of waterfowl, Jack is a goose, and Maddie is a white swan. Both he and jazz are ducks bc of their grandparents.

-As Fenton his wings are white, like jazz, and as phantom they turn black with a green iridescent sheen.

-He's trans

-Nickname/ designation is inviso Bill. Bc ducks have bills haha get it-

-Ghostly wail?? Nah son he's gotta killer QUACK

-Absolute besties with Mer!Danny/ Moray, sometimes they go swimming together after a mission.

Clone! Danny:

-Physically he's a 12-year-old, but he's only been alive for a few months.

-Alt universe where Vlad manages to stabilize the perfect clone with his own DNA.

-Dani still exists, and the original danny from his time line also rescued the other problematic clones.

-Doesnt like the fact that he's a clone, and very much wants them all DEAD. Bc them running around is a reminder that he's not the real danny.

-Human half looks the same aside from the widows peak and the mallen streak. His ghost half takes after plasmius. Blue skin, and the Hazmat kept it's original white colors.

-Probably has fangs and a forked tounge.

-Not so much a member of the squad as he is someone that they need to be keeping an eye on.

-Does NOT get along with them.

-Dan enjoys making him uncomfortable.

-Designation is Masters / the brat (not to his face tho)

Family Breakfast AU! Danny:

-A BABY

-The boy is a fucking overpowered todler okay. He's an 8 year old.

-The biological son of his Vlad, was born a Halfa. Jack, Vlad and Maddie got their shit together and are in a healthy poly relationship.

-Got separated from Vlad one time in the zone and inadvertently adopted by the assistant squad and clockwork.

-His Vlad is aware of the squad and just. Dad's the crap out of the Danny's as a result. It makes for some..... interesting interactions.

-I can't think of a nickname so I'm just gonna be lazy and say he gets to be the one Tru Danny bc cute little kind privileges lmao.

Full ghost! Danny:

-15 years old, will always look 14.

-Nickname/designation is Toast

-Died in the portal accident and got fucking FRIED.

-He always smells like somethings burning.

-He's really bright and sorta sparks a bit, you can see his bones glowing through the hazmat.

-He still leave the zone to protect his version of amity, but lives with clockwork full time.

Canon Danny (NOT PHANTOM PLANET COMPLIANT) :

-Basically show Danny, except phantom planet never happened fuck you

-Joined the crew after the events of de stabilized

-Also he's trans fuck butch

-Franken! Danny

-Yall remember that Headless Danny Au? This is my take.

-Is Actually 20 years old, but physically stuck at age 14. Bc he's a walking corpse :)

-Came from a timeline that was directly parallel to Full ghost! Danny. He dies in the portal accident, but jack and Maddie are in the lab when it happens and manage to sort of bring him back using a combination of science and freaky ghost junk.

-So he's basically possessing/ stuck inside of his own dead body. Which, is thankfully not rotting or going into rigor mortis bc Ectoplasm is rather similar to formaldehyde, but he's not the most durable thing and bits and pieces fall off from time to time.

-Like his head. For example.

-He's pretty desensitized to it at this point and if he loses a leg after a ghost fight he doesn't see anything wrong with sitting down on the curb of a main street to stich it back on. His being dead isn't exactly a secret.

-Don't ever ask him to "give you a hand" bc he can and will not hesitate to pop one off and Chuck it at you.

-Said hand and any other body part will continue to function just fine even if it isn't attached to anything, btw.

-Nickname/ designation is Adam. Bc. Ya know. that's the name Frankenstein's monster gave itself.

Post Phantom Planet! Danny:

-A very jaded 22 year old who is driven only by spite and enough caffeine to kill a horse

-Very, very tired of the hero thing.

-Being a global celebrity isn't all it's cracked up to be.

-Decided to follow Vlads lead and fuck off to space for a while. Partially to get away from everyone and also partially bc he kinda feels responsible for the fact that the only other person like him and probably floating DEAD in the void somewhere? And yeah Vlad fucked up all on his own but what if he'd tried harder to get through to him things could have been different-

-Joins the crew after a natural portal opens up in space and decides to help out and use clockworks resources to try and track down his Vlad.

-Nickname/ Designation is Polaris, aka the north star.

Chapter 393 - The fact that y'all think Raskreia would play along with Frankenstein... you're the idiots, not her. Raskreia's straight-laced murder craving self would never.

- And Raizel's appearance + words are finally piercing into Edian's drug addled mind. I do wonder how much of her state is being drugged and how much is the mind control that Lagus must def be using.

- Raizel's crumpling Lagus up like a tin can or a bottle... be respectful to the elderly bro.

Chapter 394 - Yeah Drakon, who woulda thunk that Muzaka, a lord, would do what's best for his people by not picking fights with nobles.

- Raizel telling Edian to attack him without hesitation because they're enemies... angsty. But also lol she's only doing this because she's mind controlled, so she's not actually your enemy king.

Chapter 395 - Oh so you know what a bloodstone is but not about the noblesse? Really Raskreia? I'm going fucking crazy.

- My fucking eyes. Put your clothes back on grandpa I'm begging you here 😭🤢🤮

... the glowing white-green eyes and mouth is cool though. Not that it's worth everything else, but it's cool. I think the real reason I didn't remember everyone else's cool eye stuff was because I was avoiding looking at them entirely which... yeah fair. That and unlike with Gradeus it only lasted a few panels or chapters.

- Gejutel knows about bloodstones too but that makes sense because of Raizel's brother's event. Which is obviously why Lagus was aware of it too. As for the mystery person who asked Raizel to hold onto the bloodstone... still think it was either Ashoka or maybe the lord before him. And yeah it's canon that the bloodstone drives you insane since it makes you thirst for power with its allure. Except for Raizel who's immune because my boy being such a hikikimori due to his noblesse status and generally being emo renders bloodstones useless on him. The one benefit from isolating himself and being married to his job only.

Chapter 396 - Still forever gonna hc that Raizel's brother usually has long hair and cut it either because it reminded him of how much his dead sister loved it (in verses with ur-Hulda) or because he was in one of his phases where he thought it'd be funny to trick ppl into thinking he was Raizel.

- Yeesh even Frankenstein and some older werewolves know about the bloodstone.

- And Gradeus went into super hideous mode too... Like I was doing my best to ignore the horrid muscles since he has his lovely voids but... ugh.

- Oh so Ashoka told you about bloodstones but not the noblesse, Raskreia? I'm gonna pick a fight with your father :/ It'll mostly be him watching me with amusement and humouring me but I think he'll listen to me scolding him so it's a win win.

- Ah the symbolism of Raizel going from the Ye Ran uniform to the black and gold of Lukedonia again,,,

Chapter 397 - I've never understood why all the Tradio clan members gathered are men. Like??? Artist??? Lagus is actually a major misandrist and is okay with genociding men but not women is what I'll go with ig. Makes 0 sense but hey, gotta do what ya gotta do. Also just imagining the clan members talking:

"Why did Claudia gather all the clan members here? It's been centuries since the last time she did that."

"Yeah. Even weirder since it's only us men this time. I wonder why."

"Right? Wow I hope nothing bad happens like when we gathered 500 years ago when we almost got banished for something that wasn't our fault haha.

Chapter 398 - I just think it shouldn't actually be possible to slice off Raizel's wings since they're manifestations/blood and not like, permanent anyway. Or at least that he should return to having two wings after this battle instead of it remaining gone.

Chapter 399 - Rip Mount. He went from 5 to 500 in a matter of seconds.

- Ah Edi sacrificed herself.

Chapter 400 - The Edian interrogating and threatening Frankenstein flashback <3 also she's dead but flashback 🥺 She canonically would curse and threatened Frankenstein so actually my hcs of her are simply building on her canonical traits :)

- Also confirmation that Raizel's blood tears are indeed crying like I've said many times before. Not that there was any doubt but some people are really bad at understanding and extrapolating information.

Chapter 401 - Oh Aris is back. Her horrible new clothes I blame Crombel for. I mean Marie worked for him and see what she wore.

- Good thing the bloodstone dissipated before Frankenstein could go through with his idea of studying them to help replenish Raizel's lifespan. I like to think that's how Lagus started to. He wanted to help but exposure to bloodstones, even the artificial ones he created in an attempt to help, over a long period simply made him cuckoo.

- No but what are they saying that's making only Zarga question his life decisions?! Also Lagus seems like the tired old man he is lol. They need to scooch over some too, there's plenty of space that the three standing can sit on. And once again Urokai and Zarga come as a pair.

- Ah the iconic "Regrets are an extravagant emotion (to me)" line that I love but only because it sounds cool. It actually makes me want to punch Raizel <3 On a more serious note, I do want to point out that although he says that, he does very obviously miss the traitors and wish none of this ever happened considering he literally flashes back to happier times. He does actually regret what happened, as they phrase it, he simply denies it because of his duty and because this has been his fear all along. That he'll get close to people and end up having to execute them. Of course, in a way, his own actions made it a self-fulfilling prophecy and insert all the analysis I've made prior here please. So in other words, Raizel is ignoring his trauma in the hopes that it'll go away instead of processing it lol. Sorry guys, being several millennia old doesn't mean you have good coping mechanisms.

Chapter 402 - No Rayga's entrance to eternal sleep was not correct shut up.

- ...The Seira hug that I loathe with every fiber of my being. Seira's kindness knows no bounds but no matter what, I hold my opinion that canonically, Rael did not deserve such comfort from the girl he has been inappropriately stalking, harassing, and assaulting. He was interested in her when she was a child (117, anywhere from 11-15 judging from flashback) while he was an adult (400+, 20+ is my guess.) which I would like to point out is pedophilia. Even when using hcs where they're only actually adults at 500, it's still like a 16/17 year old taking interest in a 11 year old and is disgusting. I hate how him becoming a better person apparently means Seira is friendlier with him. Like idc if they're now fellow clan leaders, he assaulted her and she shouldn't be made to be nice to him.

It's why if keeping to Rael's canonical characterisation, I have Seira being massively reliant on outside approval as a coping mechanism after her family's deaths so she's nice to him mostly because she knows people will praise her for being so magnanimous, especially the lord. Like I have her like that always actually, but emphasised here. Though I prefer just... not having Rael as in canon because I simply detest men. Was gonna explain more but saying I don't like men is good enough reason and also it shouldn't be hard to figure out why.

- Anyway I'm ignoring the implication that nobles don't hug because it's stupid.

- Ah I remember Rael shouting at the others who were grieving over Rajak... still think that's stupid like they're just sad that someone they knew is gone geez. It's not disrespectful and grieving is a healthy and natural process. And don't approve of it Karias. Damn you nobles.

Chapter 403 - Imagining Mark taking the form of a lady for a mission,,, I know that wouldn't work and instead there's likely a female agent who's his equivalent but still.
