I've spent the past week and a half getting disastrously into both one piece and dc (batman specifically) So that's how my life's been going lately.

In the anime Sonic X, the third season was dedicated to a completely original story. (also obligatory "please watch the subbed version, the dubbed version got censored heavily" mention) The spoiler-free version is that group of aliens in fucked-up robot armor, led by Dark Oak, descend on Mobius to try and steal the Chaos Emeralds. In attempt to save the universe from these freaks, Super Sonic scatters the emeralds across the galaxy before crashing to the planet (he's fine tho). The aliens, known as the Metarex, then attack the planet and steal something from its core, causing the plants to slowly wither and die.

Around this time, a refugee from space crashes on the planet, looking for Sonic. An anthropomorphic plant, her name is Cosmo and she is the last survivor of her race after the Metarex attacked her ship. She knows Sonic as the only person who can control the chaos emeralds, and begs him to help defeat the Metarex. Turns out these guys have been planet-hopping and genociding as they go, but their main goal is to steal the Planet Egg, which is a magic thing at the core of each planet that keeps it alive and thriving. She currently doesn't know what they're using them for but it's not for anything good. And, well, now they're hunting chaos emeralds... and, as we find out later, making fake ones.

Tails happens to have a spaceship so the whole gang goes into space to fight the Metarex. This takes up the entire season and it fucks severely. Again, the English dub was heavily censored; the og Japanese has constant death and shit. In the last of the spoiler-free bits, I will say that if you have ever heard of "Dark Sonic"... this is where he appears.

The entire season is extremely dark but extremely well-written, which makes it very popular in the fanbase. Ian Flynn has previously stated he wanted to adapt this arc to comic but Sega wouldn't let him; us seeing the Chaos Emerald surrounded by plants, along with fake chaos emeralds and Dark Sonic-implications, is making us wonder if Sega's let up and we might get this arc after all.

Now, spoiler version, though I really do suggest you watch the subbed version of this season bc it's a fucking masterpiece:

We find out late in the season that Cosmo and the Metarex are the same species. In this species, the sexual dimorphism is a different "final stage" of their life cycle. The "male" plant-creatures enter their final stage as basically a kaiju, in order to defend their society from threats; the "female" final stage is turning into a giant fuckin tree in order to reproduce with seeds. The downside is that once you enter this final stage, it is FINAL, and you die shortly after.

However, when their planet was attacked by an unseen threat (it's never clarified, but a lot of people theorize it to be the Black Arms considering Shadow 05 was about to drop), they were all about to get wiped tf out. Dark Oak started experimenting with the Planet Egg in order to stay permanently in kaiju version without dying. His wife, Earthia (or "Ashia" in Japanese, but it just translates to "Earthia") is fucking horrified that he's fucking with the life of their planet like this. While he convinces the "males" to join his side, Earthia escapes with the girls and bombs their planet to kill Dark Oak and his new monsters. They survive though, and Dark Oak starts leading them to steal more planet eggs.

Turns out their plan is to use the power of the eggs and chaos emeralds (fake or real) to do a full-scale attack on the entire fucking universe, which will kill all animal-people and turn every planet into overgrown plants. We actually see some characters from a Shadow one-off episode being killed and violently turned into trees in one scene. Fucked up. That's what they want to do to everything.

And Cosmo? Well she didn't just happen to be a survivor; turns out Dark Oak spared her from the attack on her ship, semi-possessed her in order to spy through her eyes and ears, and yeeted her down to Mobius. He's been using her to spy on the Sonic Crew this entire time, against her will and without her knowledge. It fucks everyone up a WHOLE lot.

Anyway there's like a three-part finale where Super Sonic and Super Shadow are desperately trying to keep these fuckers from Mass Genociding. Finally, Cosmo realizes that she's the only one who can stop this and sacrifices herself; she goes into her Final Stage, turning into a tree but trapping Dark Oak in there with her (it's a long story, he kinda turned into a meteor). She then appears to Tails, the ship captain, and tells him to fucking shoot her to kill both her and Dark Oak, saving the galaxy.

The problem is, Tails and Cosmo have had a bit of a romance over the course of the season. It's been fucking adorable, and Tails became extremely protective of her after Shadow tried to kill her (long story). There's an uncomfortably drawn-out scene (and I mean that in the best way) where Tails is like. Emotionally broken and trying to figure out any way to do this without killing Cosmo. Eventually, he has to give in and fucking shoot her, blowing her and Dark Oak up. It saves the galaxy but traumatizes the hell out of him.

Super Sonic and Shadow contain the blast, and Super Shadow chaos-controls it away and disappears (this is likely bc they were setting up for the Sonic Heroes arc, where Shadow would have to appear out of nowhere again). When Sonic returns to the ship, Tails meets with him, desperate for him to say he saved the day last-minute and brought Cosmo back. Instead, all Sonic could find was a single seed– considering how the Metarex reproduce, it's probably Cosmo's child, but it's never clarified. This causes Tails to have a complete fucking breakdown.

The season p much ends there. They show everyone starting to heal on Mobius, have a bit where the anime-exclusive character Chris has character development and leaves to go home, and then go "and now we're going to have more adventures!! yay!!" before panning to a potted plant in Tails's workshop, showing that the seed has sprouted.

As I said, it's very dark, but VERY good, and thus we all really really hope that it's what Sonic IDW is building up to. They've been building up fake Chaos Emeralds, Tails blaming himself for things outside of his control, and Sonic being 110% done. I didn't even get into the Dark Sonic stuff, cause it only appears briefly in one episode and then is never mentioned again, which you'd think would be bad writing but no it just raises so many questions and you know that was what was intended by it.

The arc is really beloved but because it only appeared in a 2005 anime (which was heavily censored in English, and the og Japanese didn't air officially until a couple years ago), not a huge chunk of the fanbase knows about it. Which means we really want to share it and get more people into it and how good a character Cosmo is. So yeah that's what we're excited for.

ALRIGHT SO. im not sure if you personally hc it but a lot of hyrule-focused fics ive seen have said like, because of the state of his world and always being on the run from monsters and stuff he's in poor condition, like starving and thirsty and stuff.

following that logic, after some time you start to get used to it a little, right? uh, i hope so at least- but my point being maybe hyrule is bad at recognizing when he's starving so he just forgets to eat or something.

so in pain sharing au the others start feeling hunger pains from this guy, and their like "who tf" and hyrule just, because this is natural for him is like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

idk if its a good one but just an idea i had, and maybe eventually the chain would start to figure it out and feed this mf

anyways- i love where you're going with this au, wars shenanigan's with wind were hilarious in the last one and i love your art style too! the old cartoon one you had before as well, though i love both around the same! the warmer colors are comforting honestly and the characters all seem life-like and natural. keep up the good work <3

Anon, u don't know how grateful I am whenever people give me info on hyrule cause, as I've mentioned before, his games are the only ones I haven't played

That being said, I do like this a lot and it would make sense 🤔 especially since others have told me he is constantly chased around by monsters cause of his blood, so cooking must be a no-go as to not attract attention to himself (which is why he sucks so much at it now that I think about it lol)

So hyrule being used to and ignoring hunger pains is just *chef's kiss* I can see the others being horrified over this after they find out thanks to the pain sharing curse, I can def see wild being very fussy over him and making sure he eats first and always passing him snacks from his slate

I personally really enjoy the hyrule+wild adventure buddies duo, like both of them coming from devastated hyrules, both being excellent at surviving and life on the go, but one being hopeless and careless when it comes to food while the other makes cooking and food part of his identity/life is very funny to me and I love it, 100000/10

I like to imagine Simon just randomly shows up places to do things for fun since he's legally dead. A random marathon here. A random convention there. Maybe there's a thread on 4chan or something wondering who the hell this guy is

Bird- "I swear I saw this guy before, he won (extremely specific race)" and there's a whole board about him

He just shows up around the world randomly and does incredible feats and then disappears again

Bird- "This guy shows up, kicks everyone ass at ANYTHING, then disappears without a trace. He's gotta be a superhero of SOME SORT"

Someone catches him in the wild one time holding the hand of this dude with a mohawk.

StO- Imagine Gaz having followed said board, also never saw Ghost without the mask or balaclava, and then he sees him there and he's just like, "I get to see him live!" And then Price reacts the way he does and Gaz is just like, "Wait! I know mystery Batman guy?!?"

Bird- "Mystery Batman guy is my SUPERIOR OFFICER? "

But they can trace Soap they know who this guy is. Imagine like a million people from 4chan just dog pile him in every social media platform wondering who the hell the man is. Bird- She gives them vague hints in the wrong direction, photo shopping specific events that didn't happen to make it seem like he gets out more than he does.

Bro one time the catch Ghost in Cancun just surfing. No one knows where he went after they tried to follow It didn't work.

Bird- This man has fans all around the world but they can never get a picture of him without his permission.

What really gets people is he can be found across the world in very short periods of time. People assume he must be like one of those hidden billionaires.

Bird- That's why he's Batman to them

One time they got a picture of him super injured though and now they are convinced he's a superhero

Bird- There's a whole folder of circumstantial evidence of him being hurt and everyone going "evidence he's a superhero"

He is most often found is not in ridiculous events in Scotland and that is more evidence that he's connected to John MacTavish even though MacTavish denies everything. People are unsure if MacTavish is like his sidekick or butler or secret boyfriend/husband.

Ghost convinces him to do weird events as well and dominate them just to confuse the forum.

Bird- They're both superheros in their own right just a few months later according to the forum

One time the are spotted together at a log throwing competition. Then MacTavish at an art exhibit (Ghost is barely visible in the background). Next week in Cuba doing an eating competition.

Three days later San Diego Comic-Con. No one understands anything that's going on.

Bird- Ghost and Soap have a fun time reading through all the shit. They're in full cosplay too, they're only recognized because of Soap's Instagram story the day after and then everyone explodes because they SAW them but didn't recognize them until them. Ghost as scream and Soap as Jason.

Imagine one time they just show up on TV or the news in the background

Bird- There's a parade going on in the background and they show up as performers or part of the audience. The news reporters don't catch them as they wave enthusiastically to the camera.

They come to the conclusion that they know about the forums and then it becomes trying to dig out the rat.

Bird- They try to sus out the account that could be one of them, little do they know Ghost is one of the longest running ones there so his account isn't suspected at all times.

I imagine a random selfie gets uploaded to the forum as well.

Bird- He posts a selfie from a "found" social media that just HAPPENS to be "deleted" before anyone else can access it.

The people on the forum are extremely happy though that this random probably superhero is playing along.

He shows up in the Winter Olympics next. And he crushes the biathlon by a scary margin. After he gets the gold he proposes to Soap

Soap's bio gets updated to John MacTavish Riley. Soap continues to gaslight. That has always been my full name YOU'RE all delusional.

I imagine they only get their answers possibly after they all retire

Bird- Simon gets unkilled by law and is allowed to retire with Soap. They make a video explaining how they were fucking with people for entertainment and post it to the forum and everyone loses it lol.

On my quest of consuming all Transformers media... or most lol. I have binged "Transformers: The Headmasters"! It's a great continuation of the original show. I enjoyed how they focused on a core cast for this one, but still hopped around sometimes.

I had forgotten that Fortress Maximus and Scorponok were rivals/equals! It's so interesting considering how Max is in IDW compared to Scorponok. Gives me lots to think about when doing my design of him 🤔 How will Cerebros mix in? I dunno haha.

Speaking of Cerebros! I really liked him!!! He was actually a good leader and tried to figure things out or stop things and was actually concerned for others. I was so shook when they said "you're the leader of the Autobots now" and Rodimus flew into space never to be seen again 🤣 Classic G1 Rodimus (outside the OG movie)

Also!!! Poor Chromedome 😭 this bot cannot escape his loved ones being killed off by a phase sixer 💀 Sixshot is so capable lmao. Magnus was done dirty OTL

Besides that, Chromedome is great! He gives me Hotrod vibes, kinda brash, has something to prove, young bot. He always wants to protect everyone and it's so cute 🥺

As for the other Headmasters, Hardhead is so fun and so is Highbrow!! He's a little enabler to Daniel haha. Brainstorm was probably my least fav out of them, but i just think I'm just so used to mtmte him. He was the mature one here.

The Trainbots are cool, wish we got to know them more 😔 also love the Decepticon Headmasters, they are so dorky 💜

Anyway, it was a fun watch and after reading quite a bit of the comics it was cool being like "Ah! That's where you're from!" Or "I know that guy!" Haha.

I just started "Transformers Super-God Masterforce" in hopes of seeing Overlord's first appearance 👍 much more anime vibes in this one.

YES, there's a short filler arc between Zou and Whole Cake Island where Maren and Luffy meet briefly!!! it's called Dinner Island!! they also may have met during marineford but considering how huge it was, I haven't really written Maren to be at the center of it, as he's part of the WBP 8th Division.

while on their way to Totto Land, the Sanji Retrieval Team nearly starves. they come across a curious sign floating in the water that says "Free Dinner!* This Way!" with a very small footnote that says "*within reason". Luffy immediately turns the ship in the direction of the sign, while Nami explains it's obviously a trap, but they dont have many other options as luffy cooked all of their rations into inedible sludge...

they arrive at a small but very delicuous looking island, and are immediately greeted by its residents. no one seems to mind that they are pirates and everyone seems quite happy. they're quickly brought to a large feast where the crew is brought plates upon plates of free food, until Luffy exhausts their food sources and frustrates the local leadership. they pull out a document that has the words "Free Dinner Within Reason" highlighted over and over, and explain that Luffy was NOT being reasonable. He laughs about it then is dragged off to do dishes in prison with a comically full stomach. Nami lets him figure that one out on his own.

underneath the island is a large prison with tons of unwashed forks and knives and plates stacked up by the sides. Luffy makes a stink face and knocks over a bunch of plates on accident, then notices a large prison cell in the corner with a sitting dark figure.

"hey." it calls out.

Luffy responds with an "oyy?? you eat a lot too?" and Maren steps into the light, a huge porcupinefish fishman with a Whitebeard Pirates tattoo showing through a rip on his pant leg.

"sure. but can't really compare to that stuff over in totto land. you can even eat the chairs there. won't catch me goin back there again though--" Maren continues to talk, revealing all sorts of insider details and information about Totto Land and its resident pirate crew, but Luffy stops listening and starts thinking about buildings and objects and vehicles made of food.

Maren notices Luffy spacing out and drooling over unreal food and laughs. "youre just like Ace said!" but Luffy doesn't notice.

"Oy kid," Luffy snaps out of it and looks at Maren. "I'll get you outta here. they just throw people in here to scare em. im maren by the way."

Maren shrinks down to normal human size and his spines disappear from his back, allowing him to step easily through the large prison bars. he opens Luffy's prison door and points towards the exit, "That'll get you back to your ship." then Maren walks back into his cell and inhales deeply, getting huge again. He then lays down on the big jail bed and turns away "now be quiet, I'm sleepin."

and Luffy yells "Thanks balloon guy!!!" as he runs off, but Maren is already passed tf out.

luffy gets back on the sunny and recounts his adventure, completely unable to repeat any of the details about Totto Land or the Charlotte family Maren passed onto him about their coming adventure.

and that's my quick story of Luffy and Maren actually meeting ❣️

Ok you guys aren't ready for where I'm going to take this (except Human) because I had an idea for vampire!Abigail that involves Marlon and Rasmodius getting together. Cuz you know, like, 2 dads or whatever. (Technically 3 but Pierre? Ugh. He’s wimpy comic relief in this only)

For the purposes of this fic, Abigail is the wizard's daughter and only him and Caroline know.

Anyways I'm trying to do A LOT with this one so maybe I just do bullet points this time to give you the idea

There's no farmer, instead Marlon takes Abbie under his wing as a young adventurer

Rasmodius (because he watches everyone, like a creep) sees this and is like UGH not that THAT GUY, because Marlon is essentially his annoying coworker. Marlon tries to be buddy buddy with him and Ras is not about it. Like bro do your job protecting the valley and shut up pls.

Abbie stumbles on something she shouldn't in the mines, accidentally unleashing an ancient evil vampire and getting bit. It's very important to me that she turns into a bat. It happens automatically when the sun touches her skin, as a defense mechanism. She can survive in the sun as a bat.

So shit hits the fan obviously. Caroline goes to the wizard's tower screaming and freaking out because her daughter is missing and she is certain he has something to do with it (she hadn't known about Marlon) and Rasmodius pieces together it probably has something to do with the ANCIENT EVIL now on the loose. He assures her he is going to take care of it and has no choice but to team up with (ugh) Marlon.

Marlon doesn't know about Abbie. Ras is keeping all his secrets close and being careful about which info he gives to who. They go on an adventure of bonding. Important features of which are homoerotic wound dressing, and Marlon getting serious with Ras about his past and stuff. So he sees another side to him and starts to gain respect for the man.

A lot happens next that I don't have worked out yet sue me its just a concept rn. I have a few different ideas for how Abbie's side of things can go. She could potentially get out of the mines and turn into a bat which leads to her flying to the tower bc who else would believe her? Or she could be trapped in the mines with the original vampire and be like his spawn under his control or something.

Either way, we end up at a moment of truth where Marlon realizes Abbie has turned and feels like they need to kill her or otherwise trap her for eternity or something. And Ras is like tf no Im not condemning my daughter to that and Abbie and Marlon both are just [shocked pikachu face]

BATTLE OF THE DADS. DAD DUEL. FATHER FIGHT where they are physically fighting but also arguing about who knows best for her since the wizard has literally never spoken to her in her life but is also the one trying to save her, while Marlon actually did become a strong father figure for her but wants to kill her (only to end her suffering ofc)

Imagine they are fighting and Abbie just calls over them like "Not really suffering a whole lot, to be honest!" because this is a dark comedy as well as a romance.

Ras wounds Marlon badly enough (owie, it hurt his heart to do though, what is this, FEELINGS?) that he is subdued. Abbie and Ras take on the ancient vampire and nearly DIE but Marlon comes back and saves the DAAAY

He has the opportunity to also kill Abbie and doesn't, he's come around to compromise his morals for the sake of the ones he loves

Potentially even more homoerotic wound dressing and then they KISS with their old scruffy man beards and Abbie pretends to vom

What is your first impression of each members of the reboot cast?

gonna base my first thoughts off the first ep greetings. initial thoughts under cut:

millie: idgaf she was real for coming on this show just to study why people her age act the way they do. i didn't think she'd win, but i loved her automatically. she seemed very relatable based off her initial motive (and i was right!)

axel: "oh she's going to be a challenge dominator!" i screamed, not knowing just how wrong i was </3 i started off thinking she was a combo of eva and shawn aha. i thought she'd make it mid merge

priya: "oh she's going to be a challenge dominator!" i screamed, not knowing just how correct i was <3 IMMEDIATELY loved her. the way her voice actress in english captures her personality from the start is brilliant ugh priya ily!!!

zee: AWESOME GUY. love a down to earth, mellow dude, so i was happy seeing zee. i figured he'd be a much needed comic relief

ripper: "oh he looks silly and his green sweater is great- wait what do you mean he has criminally convicted for pooping in a stranger's purse on a bus-" -me (i was concerned about this guy, and i did not know just how much that concern would grow as the eps went on)

Final review of the Prime Wars Trilogy, here are my thoughts on Power of the Primes

So Combine Wars set the bar super low, and then Titans Return was a step in the right direction

Power of the Primes...while not as bad as CW (like I said, that one set the bar pretty low), I still wasn't really impressed with this. I went from hopeful with it, to extremely meh, and then at the end I kinda hate it a little

Maybe I'm just looking at it from a very biased perspective but this just...bothered me so much, and I'm not that hardcore of a TF fan enough to articulate why it bothered me so much

But I'm gonna try. Sorry if this is just turns into an all-over-the-place rant, but that's the only way I can convey my feelings on this:

Okay, let's start with something general about the series that I kinda noticed after watching TR. It seems like it just takes itself too seriously. From what I read, this trilogy was meant to be more mature but like...c'mon guys, this is Transformers we're talking about. It's a big elaborate marketing scheme. Why are we being edgy about it? I mean, even the Bay movies had their moments of silliness

It got to the point I started associating it to the '86 movie in regards to the character deaths. I'm not one to complain too much about death, I know there are times and places for it, but after the 4th one I was just like...okay really, was all that necessary?

It also pisses me off because they revived Optimus (who died at the very end of TR btw) at the very last second, but refused to revive all the other character deaths. Yes, Optimus is known to die and get revived, and we all love him for that, but he only gets revived because...somehow Solas Prime going back to being completely dead allowed the Matrix to revive him? I didn't...really get it. I'm trying not to be mad about it, but it was one of those things where I'm just like...bro you either shouldn't have died in the first place or you should have stayed dead

(ngl I'm just salty in general that Optimus was only here for 10 minutes, they only killed him off because it's just what you have to do)

Getting into the story, though, I don't think the plot was terrible, but it didn't hit right for me. Like I went into this thinking we were going to see all previous Primes coming together to stop Megatronus the Fallen, but no. Megatronus and Solas Primes were the only Primes we see (not counting Optimus, Rodimus, and Optimal Optimus). DID WE NOT LEARN FROM CW ABOUT FALSE ADVERTISING??? SMH

But even if it wasn't the worst plot in the world, some things just didn't make sense. Like how is mass genocide supposed to revive Solas Prime's spark? Is sacrificing every single spark of a transformer the requirement to bring back one Prime? And even then, when she shows up as a ghost thing everyone is still alive and kicking. Then they remove the artifacts completely from the machine keeping her spirit around AND IT'S STILL THERE

I MAY BE STUPID AND JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND, BUT IT BUGGED ME THE ENTIRE FINAL BATTLE

And Unicron is also involved because of fucking course we have to involve Unicron! And I hated it because he possessed Hot Rod the entire freaking time and made my boy kill people! To the point that in the end that trauma will stay with him and Optimus implies he'll never recover from the guilt!

FUCK YOU! LOOK WHAT YOU DID TO MY BOY!

AND ANOTHER THING ABOUT THAT ENDING THAT WAS STUPID

Moving on (no, sadly, I'm not done)

Another thing that kinda bugged me here was the continuity. I went into this thinking it was just its own thing and it would have sprinkles of references here and there like any other TF media I've been consuming. As I kept watching, it seems this is like a mashup of G1 and the comics (IDW in particular maybe? though some aspects seem to be taken from other comics). I don't think this is a bad thing, but there were moments where I found myself just being like...am I supposed to know this stuff?

I'm a basic enough fan that I know most of these characters and the lore, but there are so many things that I had to rely on a database for to better understand characters and plot. For example, during my watch of CW, I had to look up the Camiens to get a better idea who they were because I haven't touched anything they're a part of yet. And now here with Overlord, who was introduced in the Japanese G1 continuity before the comics picked him up, we learn that he associates with Unicron and The Fallen in order to get revenge on Megatron and I'm just sitting here like...revenge for what?

I wouldn't call this a very glaring flaw, as I'm sure this trilogy was made with hardcore TF fans in mind and not newcomers, but for anyone who is very new to the franchise, they won't have a lot of understanding of some things. Anything you don't know or if there are things you haven't heard of, you need to do extra research

Also I'm not a Beast Wars expert (as has been brought to my attention numerous times throughout my dive into TF media lol) but from what little I have gathered, the Maximals are like...meant to be descendants of the Autobots, right? But Optimus Primal here in this age guarding the Requiem Blaster for who knows how long? I know he won some kind of poll they did as promotional matieral, so maybe that's why they put him here? Or maybe there was a retcon somewhere in 40 years where he and other Maximals are around during the age of the Autobots, and they put him in this particular position because he's cool, I'm so tired of digging through the wiki to understand this stuff...

(side note: while it's cool that they got Ron Perlman to voice Primal (and apparently he plays him in the movie ROTB so that's cool), part of me wishes they brought back Garry Chalk to reprise the role. No disrespect to Ron, I just think Garry's cool)

Characterization-wise...honestly the only people I can really comment on are Megatron, Perceptor, and Grimlock. Perceptor is...Perceptor. ngl he kinda annoyed me during all of this, but he kinda annoyed me in G1 too so that tracks. And Me, Grimlock is always nice to see. You can't really go wrong with Grimlock tbh. It was super cool seeing him and the other Dinobots turn into Volcanicus

But for Megatron, I guess this trilogy was presented as some kind of redemption arc for him because he grew from regular antagonist, to anti-hero, to an actual heroic figure. He still has that typical Megatron attitude, so him being thrown into this position didn't feel forced to me. It was actually fun watching him at times. I just kinda wish Optimus was alive to lead with him. It would have been nice to see them working together and mending a friendship that the trilogy implied they did have (Optimus referring to him as his brother like in other continuities)

You all know my feelings about how they treated Rod...

Megatronus was kinda cool I guess, and his plot to bring back his lost love was interesting. It's just weird to me that it took him now after millennia of his banishment (which was apparently self-inflicted???) to think of this plan to revive Solas. What, did Megatron taking on his name and doing evil during the Great War in honor of the first Decepticon intrigue him so much he decided to put the plan on the backburner? It kind of was a long-game sort of thing but I still kept wondering why he chose now of all times?

Solas Prime...eh I guess? I think she's an interesting character, and her basically solving the conflict by being like, "If I'm dying I'm taking you with me because you're literally fucking everything up," was definitely something. I am confused on how exactly she died in the first place. Like the Requiem Blaster wasn't even facing her when it went off. It looked like it blew up the entire area but Megatronus--who was literally inches away from her--wasn't effected at all? I watched that scene twice and I still didn't really understand what happened...

Ugh, overall it was very underwhelming as a finale for the trilogy. The action didn't hit like in TR, and the plot dragged a lot for me. Maybe if you're a hardcore Optimus Primal fan you'd be into it, but I don't know him that well yet so for now...I missed Robot Dad, and Robot Son deserved better

i mean tbh all i have so far is praise but i just wanna ramble about specifically WHY i like it ykno

ok so first off the brutality…I've seen ppl complain abt that but honestly i LOVE it. I like this story establishing the tone and stakes RIGHT away. I was like OH okay it's going to be THIS kind of comic (in a good way). the comics being darker is smth i've always liked.

what's more I feel like it establishes the gravity of the decepticons being there. like...I don't think, in ANY TF thing, I have ever really felt FEAR for the human characters. so...starscream squishing a guy into GOO on-panel was a big OH moment. the danger feels tangible

which brings me into my thoughts on the decepticons and like...listen, i am the FIRST in line for stories about sympathetic decepticons and morally grey autobots. but i am absolutely LOVING how delightfully sadistic starscream is. it's about time he was an actual threat again

as much as i enjoy the misunderstood/underdog decepticon stories…they are the villains. that has always been their purpose in TF as an entire concept (besides SG i guess). so letting them BE villains and be just WHOLLY awful people like ooh i can get into this 👌

they're awful in a realistic way too, at least to me. like i enjoy how cartoonishly ~evil~ the decepticons are in like, the og g1 cartoon, but i'd never describe g1 starscream as "sadistic". but HERE?? in this comic?? absolutely would describe him that way. and it's amazing

which like…I am also glad for a story that doesn't pull its punches and give "important" characters plot armor. like i was FULLY shocked at not only the characters that (supposedly) died, but how brutally they died as well. again, great way to establish stakes

energy/resources scarcity is also something i'm glad is touched upon by this story right out the gate, you can FEEL the desperation from BOTH sides. it's something that's baked into the concept since g1, but i feel like g1 doesn't FULLY explore that yknow

the amount of horror i felt watching soundwave and starscream rip skywarp apart out of sheer desperation? yeah that SHOOK me, and i LOVE when stories can do that. that was horrific and really went a long way in showing just how desperate cybertronians have become and what lines the cons are willing to cross. rip though god, was hoping skywarp was finally gonna get to do something LMAOO 💀💀

but also on the other hand…wow a continuity where CLIFFJUMPER gets to do something and doesn't die immediately?? revolutionary, good for him

and i have seen a lot of people praising this specifically and i have to agree that i LOVE how this optimus prime is written. he's so kind and gentle, with an absolute WONDER for the beauty of organic life and willingness to protect creatures he JUST met. i love that so much??

i've been so jaded abt OP for a while and only recently started liking him bc i have issues with how he's written in…a LOT of continuities lol. but this is such good OP characterization. not my FAVE, like honestly my fave OP is more like Tired Annoyed Dad, but this is SO good

uhh I think that's all my thoughts. tl;dr i am LOVING this comic so so much so far, the fact that i can ramble THIS much about it when there are only 4 issues out is a great thing imo, i am so excited to see where this story goes!

i’m of the opinion that jason todd’s current characterisation + the absolutely violently irritating fandom he has means he is unfixable as a character and honestly we should just phase him back out of comics and fandom, because my life is never easier than when i consume media made while he was DEAD

sorry this got a little rambly bc I have a lot of thoughts,,,,

before I start, my first comic book fandom was transformers which largely tends to overwrite and rewrite characterizations and has frankencanon AND frankenfanon. so I'm honestly willing to give a lot more leeway to characterization even though I love complaining about characterization. my favorite little guy from the 80s comics got hard villainized by mtmte (2012) and I defend him every day. so I'm coming at this as a guy who has suffered at the hands of god (the writers) before.

I think jason suffers a lot from writers not knowing what to do with him honestly. like it's super telling that his best post-resurrection story is widely considered the first one he was back in. but like, jason hasn't had a good track record of being consistent and given something to do.

I think his current characterization makes him a little redundant almost solely BECAUSE there are other bats that have long filled the roles he's taken up. he's much more interesting as a villain to me because of the unique place he gets in the story and the unique dynamic it provides him with bruce and the rest of the bats. helena and jpv and selina took up a lot of the space he now occupies in the 90s/early 2000s.

honestly, I think dc should just let him be unhinged and commit crimes. he's more interesting that way and he gets to be the ghost of the narrative. also like his philosophy is a lot more interesting when he just. doesn't feel bad about it.

whether or not jason is unfixable? he's really not BUT I think it'd take a soft reboot to put him back in a place where he has more narrative weight. and I don't think some people are willing to bear with jason being a villain to get narrative weight and importance or to explore all the ways that he should have utterly ruined his relationships. a lot of modern fandom has a weird thing about liking bad/villain characters to the point of being genuinely awful about it.

I do also agree the fandom tends to just... not know the canon. and I think since dc DOESN'T have over 50 hard reboots like other comic book media (see transformers, tmnt, sonic the hedgehog), it's a lot more difficult to forgive.

also just, in general, the batman fandom is sort of difficult to be in when you care about canon material. this is nothing against people bc I think participating in fandom is the gateway some people need to get into comics. but with all the content being made by people who have never actually touched any batman media it's like a really awful game of telephone. like I am a jason does not cook truther until I die and it's solely bc I a) think it's funny and b) have never seen that man cook except in gotham knights which yanks a lot from the fun batfam vibe (but gotham knights IS a love letter to the comics. I have the art book and the creators love batman. its like when tf gets a new thing. roll with the punches).

but as a direct result a lot of people are telephoning in their jason characterization and knowledge and it comes at the expense of not knowing the source at all.

jason being dead again does make him the ghost of the narrative though and I love a good ghost of the narrative. I love when he haunts those who came after him. also I think everyone should be cracking "I'm not jason todd" to bruce's face again. every time they do it it's so out of left field. I respect it

OKAY MW3 TRAILER BREAKDOWN AND MY THOUGHTS(TM)

spoilers for mw2 if you haven't played the campaign yet; i'll keep everything below the cut. besides the full, unedited teaser. stay frosty~

We're instructed to receive sensitive intel, which includes a map of Al-Mazrah and a proposed site for missiles. Note, I'm 90% sure the circle is over the Observatory.

Well, if you remember both campaigns, you know that Al-Mazrah is the hotbed for shit. Everything with Price, Alex, and Farah happens there. TF 141 finds American Missiles there. Makarov had guys in Al-Mazrah looking to set up a plot and make some deals…

So this is all going to be a nod back to the original trilogy. We know this already with the teaser about No Russian at the end of MW2-RE's campaign.

You know, the mission where an American informant partakes in a false flag operation in a Russian airport and then the Russians (who knew the informant was American) kills him to make it look like the Americans are starting a war with Russia? The same way that the American missiles are planted in MW2-RE to make it look like, again, the Americans are the ones starting the war?

My brother was able to explain this better, but if you know the original trilogy plot… you see where this is going.

I also think based on the way this teaser opens, the first mission of the game might show No Russian. Like. We will be thrown into the shitstorm.

Anyway, the next thing I wanna show is this piece of falling debris. Consider this my blue curtain moment… but tell me this does not look like when Shepard aims his pistol in the OG trilogy… when… you know…. Ghost and Roach are slaughtered.

Then, as the teaser continues and the skull appears (I believe it's supposed to be a snake, all things considered. And, the way it's stylized, it looks like Ghost's skull mask… just a bit.

I believe it may be, or may be a nod, as my brother pointed out that it's (most likely) Ghost saying the line "Cut the head(s) off [the] snakes".

Which if it is… is another wonderful nod to the OG trilogy and lore, as not only was Ghost still breathing when Shepard decided to serve up some human BBQ, but in his original backstory (aka: the comics that the fandom has kept canon in the reboot timeline, which I love)… Ghost is buried alive after being captured. So. He's got some grudges.

Then, we see Price. And he looks... FUCKING UPSET. Like. Sad upset. Devastated. Upset.

And it transitions to Makarov.

Then the transition cuts out, and we get a date for… something.

My best guess is the official trailer, because the time between MW2-RE's release and this would be… so short. And I would hate to know they crunched the development of the game THAT MUCH to release it. We know Activision treats its staff like shit, all major game companies do, but I really hope (as much as I would be hype to watch this new game) that this isn't a release date for this year.

Unless they've been working on both games for a hot minute and prepared this kind of schedule way ahead of time, which is unlikely (but a good moot point for anyone looking to remain hopeful).

hi this post is probably going to be a mess, so fair warning for my nonsense ramblings about robots.

okay so i'm currently working on cataloguing and creating a document that compiles a somewhat comprehensive catalogue of idw1's transformers comic line. this involves me going through and reading every comic, start to finish, and making notes on each page (basically i just summarise what happens on each page and jot down things that i find interesting)

i'm doing this because i eventually plan on rewriting idw1 because it has a number of writing flaws, plotholes, and general decisions that either piss me off or baffle me to no end. and since i am of the firm belief that one needs a good idea of what actually happens in canon in order to make a rewrite that makes sense, i'm taking notes.

and with these notes have come a lot of thoughts, particularly on how the hell i'm going to tackle megatron. see i love idw1 megatron, he's by far my favourite megatron and i will continue to call him my favourite until another piece of tf media actually attempts to give megatron more than a handful of scenes that explores him properly as a character.

however, my want to slowly break megatron down into tiny pieces so i can understand how he works doesn't change the fact that idw1 megatron is kinda poorly written.

and that's how i feel about idw1 as a whole. it has done a lot of really interesting things with tf as a franchise, particularly relating to worldbuilding and the pre/post war environment. like it is not perfect, not by a long shot and i have soooo many personal grievances with how certain plot points are handled, but it still remains my favourite continuity because its writers were allowed to explore these characters in a somewhat new way.

but going back to megatron, his... well i hesitate to call it a redemption because redemption implies that he made up for what he did and i don't really think he did. but his betterment arc specifically trips me up so badly because jro really, really wants you to like megatron. like sure he starts off as an asshole but megatron does distinctly shift from being a warlord into being a proper captain, which then culminates in his leadership in the alternate universe, but my brain continues to truly wonder how genuine megatron is.

because early idw1 portrays megatron as a really bad revolutionary. he overthrows the senate and basically instills himself as a dictator. i don't think the writers genuinely intended for megatron to come off as a guy who wanted to change the system (despite what later comics will say) which does line up with the fact that early idw1 megatron was just a warlord who was running around conquering planets and attempting to exterminate organic life.

and this is where my conundrum comes in. how the hell do i rewrite megatron so that his later characterisation in mtmte actually makes sense. like.... ugh it's hard for me to truly put it into words but i have issues with the way the decepticon faction as a whole are written (mostly because i think the plotline of "oh this group of oppressed people actually just want to oppress everybody else" is overdone in tf media and really needs to stop)

early idw1 megatron doesn't have enough internal dialogue for me to truly get a grip on what exactly his genuine intentions were. like sure i could assume that his plan was to overthrow the senate and create a utopia where everyone was living peacefully and were equals but then his characterisation in the primacy trilogy makes no damn sense because in those comics he basically just becomes a prime in the sense that he's going to make his own government that has it's own special form of oppression that is implied to be just as bad, if not worse than the functionalism he was originally trying to get rid of.

but then if i think about it the opposite way, where he always planned on overthrowing the government and becoming a dictator i have to wonder about stuff like towards peace, a manifest that he originally didn't even want published and that was posted anonymously by terminus before he even got to c-12.

so like the logical assumption is that whirl beating the shit out of him changed his world view so much that he decided that the only reasonable solution was to just make his own government so he can control everything. which like okay sure, but what about his relationship with the other decepticons

idw megatron is nothing if not charismatic and considering soundwave is a literal telepath whom megatron tests to see if he actually considers his cassettes as equals, i have a hard time thinking that he only wants to oppress people. i'm someone who often takes what is said at face value so when it comes to analysing these comics i'm constantly wondering if megatron is actually someone who wanted to make a difference or if he was the world's biggest hypocrite grifter who basically talked his way into having an army that could accomplish his real goals.

i think part of this stems from the fact that we never really get to see the parts of the war where megatron was running around the galaxy murdering billions of organic species. like tarn mentions that megatron realised that quote "the prejudice and injustice he'd rallied against on cybertron was prevalent elsewhere - everywhere, in fact. the universe was actively and implacably anti-mechanical: of the flesh, for the flesh." so that means that at some point between the primacy trilogy ending and whenever the fuck the whole thunderwing incident ended, megatron realised that organics were something to be feared and decided to whip out a whole bunch of them.

but like, tarn's perspective and narrative is probably really fucking warped. like i have no problem believing megatron hates organics and wants them gone, that's literally a core principle of the decepticons as a faction, but tarn is a megatron fanboy who idolises megatron like he's god. so i take his words with a massive handful of salt.

honestly i just really want to know what happened to megatron. mostly because at the end of the primacy trilogy it really seemed like he was willing or at least open to the possibility of negotiations and it's stated that the autobots and decepticons had to work together to seal thunderwing underground but somewhere along the line that truce didn't last and i desperately wish that the writers put a bit more effort into making early megatron feel less inconsistent.

i truly struggle between whole heartedly adoring mtmte megatron and how jro characterised him and sort of hating him because he feels sort of out of left field and about 80% of his character growth and atoning for his actions happens entirely off screen and that's terrible fucking writing. like i'm aware that lost light was rushed but i don't really think that's a good enough excuse for me not to criticise it. everything in comics is rushed, that doesn't make lost light special enough to make up for the poor writing at the end.

and this disagreement i have internally is why i sort of feel bad for characters like getaway. he's right in a lot of senses, megatron murdered billions of cybertronians and billions more innocent organic species. he set up literal death camps and allowed the formation of the decepticon justice division, a group so evil that even other decepticons don't want them around. like getaway isn't a good person, but i feel like his crimes are blown vastly out of proportion. he's comically evil by the end of lost light, literally killing his own crew to satiate sunder and it's like, why is he doing this??? jro i know he's the bad guy but getaway is a charismatic bastard, not someone who completely goes off the rails trying to hang on to the small amount of control he has.

everyone on board the lost light is an asshole who have probably committed at least one crime but megatron is special in the fact that he's the reason for all of them committing crimes (bar like, tailgate and rung i guess. i don't think megatron is the reason why rung is a bit of a shit psychiatrist and tailgate was in a coma for six million years) but like..... ugh i don't entirely know where i'm going with this beyond, getaway is a bad person who does terrible things but he's fundamentally right about the fact that as soon as a certain amount of people die, you stop seeing them as actual people and see them as statistics.

i'm not entirely sure if this post has a point. i merely have thoughts and opinions in regards to how megatron, and the decepticon faction as a whole, is treated in idw1. more so the fact that they were clearly meant to be relatively one dimensional evil guys when the comics first started out and when they writers got the opportunity to write more about them, post war, they were faced with the issues of giving backstory and new traits to characters that weren't meant to have those backstories and traits in the first place.

I had a dream last night where it was like this musical and the plot was really there, the cat slime was a bit uncalled for though.

Ok so it was like an unnamed female actress and Will Smith in it and it started like a horror movie where she was a detective going through an abandoned mansion, it was also in really good shape and not like vintage, it was a modern mansion and has weird stuff and like weird taste and while going around some badly constructed handrails in the middle kinda to the side of a hallway and there's this talking cat it slime and it's like "hehe, he's gonna find you", "who tf are you talking about", "ME" then ghost will Smith shows up scares the hell outta her and then musical starts where shes like I gotta get out of here and hes like get this bitch iutta my house and it slowly becomes a romcom and the talking cat reveals this scheme of cat marketing thats been going on where they were melting the cats or something and then the cat was evil and they had this scene where the girl waa somehow flying and will Smith was cause he was a ghost and it was actually a pretty good song, until i got involved.

I was this odd third wheel side character but it was such an insane story I was watching, I stuck around just to be the comic relief and I told them it was the cat and they went off to live happily ever after and then I remembered I had a tournament like hunger games style then it went even more off the rails.

So I frickin remembered this then I was going to this trials thingy and I was paired with this other guy who looked kinda pathetic and stuff, it was kinda sad that he really resembled me, so we were actually teammates like you both make it out alive kind teammates, there are also these recurring two guys I will get to in a minute (they never leave me alone, every dream I have.) So this guy looks kinda like me, he's a bit less pale and all though and his eyes are green. The arena is like this huge cylinder but huge as in tall, it was not that wide, like you run for around thirty seconds and that's it so there were these disclike terrain stuff bits that you were on, higher was of course better. But this guy had a bow, he had good aim too, I got a sword. I'm not great with a sword but I'm good enough to maybe almost do some damage. So this bell rings and it's like people are jumping through the air, landing on other ones, we can see the blood, and we sit there and wait for a minute. There were eighteen others at first, by the time they made it to us, there were three. Two were badly injured circling each other at the bottom and the other one was standing in front of us with and axe, so of course I've got the melee weapon so it was customary for me to stand to face this guy, it wasn't a guy though it was this fantasy looking crazy barbarian woman like butch as hell. So she's got this axe and Ive got a sword and I'm not THAT strong so I'm having trouble holding it cause it's like a standard sword and stuff and she like "so we gonna fight?", then out of nowhere my teammate fires at her, so we lived of course, we were like halfway up, she fell off and definitely died abd all so we rejoiced like yay we get to live. So then these two guys from before come back like YOU FORGOT US AGAIN REMEMBERERRR. Or at least one was, so I'ma describe them both, ok so the one freaking out was named I think Oliver and he was like Brazilian and like five foot four I think, he wore mostly green and he had blue eyes and this tatoo on his collar of this one flower i think it was poisonous and he wanted to be cool so bad, he was a daredevil vut he wasnt the one who came up with things, that was Jackson, but i typically called him jack, i think he was mostly European? I couldn't really tell cause I'm bad at speculating races and he had albinism and he usually wore red and pink and today though he had one of Oliver's jackets which was green and he was comforting Oliver cause Oliver was being a drama king. And he-
