Keeping up with the Florida Panthers (aka Sara Civian interviews Matthew)
EP Rinkside: What's something away from the rink that’s making you happy these days?
Matthew Tkachuk: I would say, just, I'm lucky at this time of year. Especially across the whole country, it seems like it's freezing everywhere. It's beautiful down in Florida. And we just moved into our new practice rink recently, so that's been awesome.
EP: There was a quote floating around from (head coach Paul Maurice) from before the nine-game win streak and before you started getting hot on the scoresheet. He said people are going to say “Matthew Tkachuk is back,” and he's going to say you never left. Did you see that?
MT: I did, yes.
EP: How did you feel about it, and what's your relationship with him like?
MT: Well, Paul's been a very important part of my last few years. He’s one of, if not the best, coaches that I've ever played with. He's been very important for my development, and I just think that he trusts my game, and I trust my game. I wouldn't say (the puck) was going in early, but I haven’t changed one thing, I'm still doing the exact same thing, it's just finding a little bit more success right now.
It’s been a great year for our team and as of late, it’s picking it up a little bit for myself. Hopefully, we can just keep trending into the second half of the year here.
EP: How important is that trust between a coach and a player and how is it developed?
MT: I just think that he's always given me the right leeway, but still expects me to play the right way. He knows that there's some parts of my game that (are unique) I need to maybe take a little bit more chances than the average player. He gives me full leeway to do that, but also expects me to work my butt off and to lead by example.
EP: We always talk about “buy-in,” it's kind of cliché at this point, and you guys obviously have that factor. But how does something like that start?
MT: I just think being so close to winning it all last year has made it very, very easy to come back this year and have that immediate buy-in from the guys wanting to win a championship here. So many returning guys who are so close and so upset with not finishing it off. There's a lot of motivation.
EP: Do you have a favourite moment from last season's run?
MT: I would say, probably all of the series-clinching wins, the series-winning goals. The overtime winner in Boston, the overtime winner in Toronto, the last second one at home against Carolina.
All three of those are by far the greatest goals I've ever been a part of.
EP: I feel like we're not as a society talking about Sam Bennett enough. Can you give us a little bit about what he's like off the ice and what it's like to play with him?
MT: He just plays so hard.
He was one of the first guys I met when coming to Calgary, and we've been so close ever since. I'm so happy that we got to play together again down here in Florida. He was the first guy I talked to when I got traded, and we've just been so close for eight-plus years now.
It’s so fun that we're able to play with each other still, we just have such great chemistry on and off the ice. He just plays so hard and he complements my game so well. And off the ice, we're just super close and have a great group of guys that pretty much do everything together away from the rink.
It makes it so much fun to come to the rink every day, work with them, and then when we leave the rink, do stuff together.
EP: If you became the commissioner of the league today, what's the first thing you'd change?
MT: Overtime until somebody scores. No shootouts. And no back-to-backs. I don't know if we need any more back-to-backs right now.
EP: Other than you, who has the best chirps in the league?
MT: I'd say the guy who chirps a lot on our team is Brandon Montour. He has some good ones. Nick Cousins has got some good ones. (Ryan) Lomberg, too. They all have some good ones.
EP: Best advice your dad ever gave you?
MT: Two things: Compete and be a good teammate.
EP: Last year you gained some recognition outside of the hockey world, and it kind of sparked, like, a debate about personality in the NHL. I've always wondered What you actually think about this whole conversation, like, do you like being kind of the personality guy in the NHL?
MT: Well, I’m never going to not be myself. I grew up with great parents that taught me great things and around a great family. I’ll carry that for the rest of my life. I’m not trying to do anything, and some guys are (quieter) and that’s OK. This is just how my personality is.
EP: Can you give me three words to describe the current Panthers?
MT: Oh, I would say very fast. So fast. Close – we’re a super close team. I've never seen a team like this where, you know, we're going to dinner on the road and we're having, you know, 15 people reservations and everybody hanging out with each other. it's been awesome. Fast, close, and fun. Nobody has more fun than our team.
#matthew tkachuk#FAST CLOSE AND FUN#i'm beside myself thanks#his relationship with paul makes me sooooooo#florida panthers#2324

long list of funny things abt my experience doing emote commissions for mike
first of all I wasn't expecting to get commissioned at all (my commissions weren't even open, I just made an exception for mike) let alone by MIKETHELINK of all fucking people, so I had nothing prepared. I had no portfolio, commission sheet, nothing. I had never made any twitch emotes, so I had no examples to show either. meaning that when barbmine showed up in my dms asking if I took emote commissions, first I lost my fucking shit, then I panicked and rushed to find the most recent emote-like illustrations I had, including animation, and the most recent animation I had on hand happened to be a viewtiful joe one lmao. the animation in question 👇
(the usernames on the watermark aren't even accurate anymore..)
I have some experience taking commissions but they'd always been for friends of mine, this was my first time getting commissioned by a real "client" and the client was fucking mikethelink tazercraft of all fucking people . I know he "found" me through Mine, she sent me a dm first asking for commission info, saying she would show it to mike later. the thing is that when she said that she also implied that she was in touch with other artists too, so I was like "oh ok I'll send my stuff but I probably won't get chosen lol" and then a few hours later I got two twitter notifs, one saying that mr. thelink tazercraft was now following me and another was his DM. to say I almost had a heart attack would be an understatement
later I found out Mine had made a tweet asking for artists to reach out/people to rec artists for mike's twitch emotes. that post had around 40 comments. many people had been recommended more than once. I wasn't mentioned by anyone once, and in fact, I had no fucking idea that post even EXISTED until way after the fact. I have no idea how I ended up getting this job
mike happened to contact me on a day where I was severely sleep deprived. our entire business conversation took place while I was half-panicking, half-almost-passing-out. I don't know how I survived
at many points during our conversation I gave a lot of leeway for mike to give up on commissioning me, implying multiple times that he would be better off commissioning a different artist. and it's not because I lacked confidence (though a bit of that too, of course), but because of my lack of experience. I was very open about that to him, so many times I expected him to second guess his decision to commission me. unexpectedly, he was really insistent. I think partially he didn't want to go through the trouble of finding and contacting a different artist, but also I guess he just liked my art that much (??!?)
I definitely undercharged him lol. it's not that I don't value my work, it's just that I was absolutely not prepared for any of this shit to happen and didn't have enough time to think
I use adobe after effects for animating mike's emotes. I already knew how to animate (though I had never animated anything big), but I had never used after effects before. I even told mike this before accepting the commission, but he just said it was easy and I could totally do it, and I was just like "fucking hell. fine". and look, I know my limits, I knew I'd be able to learn after effects with relative ease. if I thought it'be too much for me to handle, I wouldn't have accepted the commission. it just that to this day I'm still shocked that mike commissioned an artist who HAD NEVER USED THE TOOL NECESSARY FOR THE COMMISSION HE WANTED.
due to the point above I was pretty apprehensive about animating the emotes, but now I'm glad I got this opportunity bc it reignited my passion for animation that had been dwindling for a long time and I've been learning a lot while working. also with every new emote I figure out how to use a different feature of after effects and it makes the job a little bit easier
before giving my payment information I came out to him to avoid confusion with my legal name being different from the name on my socials. he was very chill about it and always used the right name and pronouns for me whenever he mentions me on stream
fun fact: I was reached out to by another big (brazilian, not in qsmp) youtuber for a commission but I had to refuse because I had too much on my plate already (still do..)
my favorite emotes are the devil one and the nerd one
I made his twitch avatar and banner too! I'm really proud of the avatar. the banner was absolute hell
I'm a lurker (and nowadays a vod watcher since I've been busy w/ uni work) but I do watch every single one of mike's streams, so just know that I'm always seeing you guys use the emotes :3

Birds of a Feather...
Agent Phoenix found themself displaced in time after waking up to Reginald's younger self. Chaos ensues.
Content Warnings: Canon Typical Violence, guns, restraints, Reggie's field days, Phoenix chaos
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Are you doing alright?" Agent Phoenix groaned as they woke up in a rough bed feeling far worse than the time they stayed up until daylight. They took a deep breath to calm down in order to observe their surroundings. It wasn't as clinical as a typical Zoraxis base, a relief to them.
"Nothing too unfamiliar. Where am I?" They glanced at the source of the voice, suddenly pausing when they finally registered a familiar looking face peering at them with worry.
"Is there something on my face?" He raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms to show his disapproval. "If you think these bandages look horrible, you should take a good look at yourself."
"You look like someone I know... just... younger. It's not what you think. I know I look horrible but believe me, I can manage." They looked away, taking a deep breath to focus on something other than their heavy limbs. "I've been through worse."
"You were found unconscious in the middle of nowhere. What could be worse than that? Actually, I take that back."
Phoenix gave him a sympathetic smile before getting up, much to his panic. They chuckled at his fussing. "You remind me too much of my dad. I'm sorry for laughing. He frets a lot."
"Who wouldn't? I know I can be stubborn as a mule but you seem to be on another level."
"Well, I'd say I like to take things on another level." They smirked, amusement spilling all over them, only for them to frown when they felt their ear emptier than usual.
"We confiscated your earpiece. For some reason, it caught the attention of one of our technicians we're taking a poke at it a little bit."
"I'm getting it back, right?"
"If you can get R&D to return it, that is. Speaking of, I have to go. Please stay here? I'm sure some of doctors have plenty to be curious about. Would it be alright if you satisfy their curiosity a bit?"
"I don't have much of a choice, do I? All I can do is sit up at the moment." They mumbled, shooing him off. A part of him remains unconvinced but he has somewhere to be: Roxana is waiting for him.
Phoenix absolutely hated the probing that came moments later. They miss the fact they didn't have to answer questions that weren't "where does it hurt? Have you injested anything you shouldn't? How are you even alive?" or any of the sort.
They so badly wanted to grab the clipboard from the doctor with their TK but that was classified information that mustn't come out, so they put on a smile and answered as best they could without releasing anything classified.
They really wish to know who that young man was, seeing as though he looked a lot like the older photos of their beloved handler.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Reginald..." Roxana stared at her friend who approached her with a silly grin. "You know you really shouldn't have taken their earpiece. Who knows what it is made of."
"You are curious about it as well. Don't give me that look." He stifled a huff, watching as she hands him some schematics. "Roxana, you know I don't understand any of this."
She sighed, pointing at a stool nearby a table with an open sewing kit. "The earpiece is definitely more compact than anything the agency is capable of producing at the moment." Her eyes darted to him working on one of the tears she accidentally created when it was snagged by a tool. She really needs to make a case to allow a bit of leeway in the dress code.
"That's not what I'm interested about. Why is their earpiece so tied to my own? I know I don't pay attention to the other agents as much as I should but I'm sure I can recognize someone like them."
"What makes you say that?"
"Well-" His words were cut off by a transmission. "I have to go. My handler is telling to check out the source of a distress call in the building."
He gently put away the repaired garment and rushed outside, leaving her alone.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Agent Phoenix is currently curled up in a corner, one spare radio borrowed from the "supply closet" (empty and unused office) they barricaded themself in.
They need to get evac there. Immediately. Everything felt so familiar yet so wrong. There were some places where they can delude themselves they were back in their office, bullet holes and all. Yet it was too new to them, as if someone patched up the structural failings on the surface.
They held their breath, really hoping that the mail slot there wasn't going to have a-
"Woah! Gun safety rules aside, it's me. Come on. Please get outta there." He sounded surprised at the fact his gun was practically ripped from his grasp in the mail slot although here was a hint of reprimand.
"Leave me alone! I wanna go back. I miss him so much." They covered their ears, still shivering from how similar the young man's voice was to his.
"There isn't really much to miss there. A lot of things you can shoot at point blank range. And I don't think he's around."
They counted the seconds, internally cursing at the fact they need to use their TK to open the door in order to escape.
Despite their preparation, they managed to falter, earning him a chance to tie their limbs with a rope.
"Let me go! I swear I only want to go home." Indignation laced their voice as their struggled. "Please. I'm sure they're worried."
"I only came with a gun because you were reported to have a knife on you. How did you even manage to sneak it past us?"
"Well, why was your first thought to push a gun through a mail slot to calm me down?"
Their unfriendly glare made him wear a wry smile as he mumbled an apology. "Well, why wouldn't I be guarded? You were sending a distress call to the agency, not to mention your earpiece always connects to mine."
Eyes widening at the realization, they looked resigned a few seconds later. "... I won't participate in any questions until you do this one thing for me, Mr. Reginald Crane."
A shiver ran up his spine as they gave him a devious grin.
"Please ask Dr. Roxana Prism if she's willing to make a tine machine with me."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have NO idea where I'm going with this so this is a one shot for now.

🤌🏻 you've seen the vid of binnie taking a donut from a STAY at the fan meet? Imagine that it wasn't just any STAY it also happened to be his s/o!
Just thoughts of binnie scanning which stay to take from and he spots you and takes yo donut and you sit there like.
... "bruh, I got this for us to eat at home why 😭" still had fun at the fan meet tho and you adore interacting with your boyfriend at fan meets loool.
powdered donuts paired with sugary sweet love

the local bakery is just a few blocks away from where skz are currently holding their fan meeting. you can hear the sounds of the cheers and screams from the many stays as well as the music for s-class playing.
as you step inside the bakery, pick out four donuts for you to indulge later on tonight. you hear his voice bellowing in your ears as you pay. you smile to yourself as you listen to his cheerful laugh, a laugh that erupts from deep within his chest whilst making everyone else around him laugh too from how contagious it is.
you step outside, clutching the box. you decide on making a detour to see how the fan met is going plus, you want to see your lover after not seeing him for a few weeks.
you stand a few feet away from the crowd. enough to be seen by changbin but not enough to be shooed away from the event organisers plus security.
you chuckle to yourself as you watch skz interact with stays, taking photos and talking to them. you spot changbin, feeling your heart swell and butterflies flutter in your stomach from how beautiful and soft he looks. your body fills with pride, eyes filling with tears as you watch him. you couldn't be proud of changbin, proud of how far he has come.
you've watched him struggle with his own mind at times. the exhausting hours, the never ending sleepless nights and his body battered and bruised from the ruthless dance practises as well as him losing his voice a couple of times. you've been by his side, his shoulder to lean on and you're so proud of him for sticking at it and never giving up.
whilst reminiscing, you fail to notice changbin making a mad dash towards you only to be stopped by security. changbin frowns and pouts, protesting as you watch him become flustered and somewhat annoyed.
“she's my girlfriend! she won't hurt me, just let me past please.” you see him mouth, practically begging the guy, but security just won't budge–until stray kids manager comes over and explains the situation and who you are. luckily for you, you're on good terms with skz and the team behind them, which allows you just that little bit of leeway when it comes to stuff like this.
changbin hugs the manager before beaming as bright as the sun. he runs over to you, engulfing you in his arms. your eyes widen as you laugh, holding the box of donuts away so you don't drop them.
“i've missed you so fucking much.” changbin whispers, eyes closing as he inhales that scent of yours he has missing so dearly. you smile softly to yourself, melting into his body. the scratchy fabric of his outfit rubs against your cheek but you endure it just to be held by changbin that little bit longer.
“i've missed you too binnie. so so much.” you whisper.
“i only have a few minutes until i have to go back. i know i shouldn't stray away from stays but as soon as i saw you, my body went into autopilot.”
“i understand baby. you have a job to do so it's ok.” changbin pulls away slowly before cupping your cheeks and kissing you sweetly on the lips. you hum softly, reciprocating the kiss and melting into his touch and the heat from the palm of his hands.
“what you got there then?” he says, nodding at the box of donuts.
“oh!” you open the box to show him the powdery, sugar coated dough. “just a small snack for tonight. thought i'd treat myself for after dinner.”
“yum!” changbin smirks playfully as he grabs a donut. you pout and whine as you watch him take a bite out of the soft dough. “this is delicious! very sweet, but delicious!”
“binnie!” you whine. he giggles softly as you sigh and roll your eyes playfully at him. you reach out, swiping some powdered sugar away from the corner of his lips with your thumb.
“it's a good thing i love and adore you, seo changbin.”
note: soft binnie eating donuts equals a yes from me. 🥺 he's so baby girl coded -sobs-

Getaway Camp : Seventeen
Pairing: Charlie Dalton x FemReader
Warnings: 18+, dirty talk, language, mentions of depression, oral (male receiving), smut, mentions of bullying, role play, dirty fantasies
Summary: Countdown to the end of camp begins and Charlie finds himself being dragged into practicing for the end of summer show. Yet who is he to say no to Valerie?
word count: 3.1k
Masterlist
Sixteen ←→ Eighteen
August 5th 1961
Family weekend was a huge success. Charlie got to spend the entire weekend catching up with his friends, learning about their lives and college. Meeks and Pitts were already thriving in early admission and Knox still head over heels for Chris, while Todd actually found himself able to defend himself to his parents. They all were doing good for a group of kids who faced so much tragedy. Then at the end of day Valerie would be done with work and get to know each of them herself. It was perfect.
That is until they had to leave. Charlie wouldn't admit it but he cried when they said their goodbyes, hugging them tightly and unsure of the next time they'd see each other. He was so happy with them here and that made spending the rest of the week without them that much harder. He had no joy for rowing or spending his days in a cabin, actually yearning for Welton when they all hung out there. He was a bit sullen and Valerie was determined to change that. That's why on his walk back from Ezra's cabin he finds the girl pacing in front of the staff camp trail, not noticing his presence.
"V? What're you doing?" he curiously asks and she freezes in place, looking at him with that perfect soft smile he had grown so fond of.
"There you are, you're late!" she grins, hand locking in his own as she pulls him along. She only strays from her pace to give him a quick kiss to his cheek before continuing up the trail, ignoring his confused look.
"Late for what Val?" he asks, not even fighting her pull as she leads him up the trail. He can't recall ever making plans with her up until now but it wouldn't be a surprise if he had forgotten.
"Um for practice, for the staff show" she answers sheepishly and finally Charlie freezes, stopping in place on the wooded trail and halting the girl with him. After all the business of the summer and being caught up in their relationship, he had nearly forgotten about the staff production he learned of on his first day. He hadn't dwelled on it since that night and now panic rose in his chest.
"I am not being in that show V" he tells her and she instantly pouts, stomping her foot like a little kid.
"Please Charlie, it'll be fun and we can do it together" she whines, determined to convince him but all Charlie can picture is a hundred criticizing eyes staring back at him, waiting to see if he would fail. Worst of all it reminds him of the last time he saw Neil, and how happy he looked onstage. He didn't want to live through that.
"I am not singing some silly song and wearing a weird costume for the campers pleasure. I'll happily sit that one out" he tells her and Valerie sighs, determined to convince him.
"I know but it's more for my pleasure, summer is coming to an end and I want to do the show, especially with you" she says, squeezing his hand and hoping her pouty lips and wide eyes can get her some leeway. Charlie won't admit that it's slightly working.
"Val, I have lots of other ways I can pleasure you that I'd actually prefer" Charlie says with a smirk, pulling her close and definitely more interested in taking her to bed then show camp. She is quick to roll her eyes, shoving him lightly despite the blush on her cheeks and desire swirling in her belly.
"Or after practice I can reward you in ways you prefer Ace" she counteroffers and Charlie snorts, pulling her back and wrapping his arms around her waist. Valerie wraps her arms around his neck, content being this close to him.
"I really don't want to V, I'm not sure there is anything that could convince me" he tells her earnestly and Valerie thinks for a moment, hopeful there was one thing she could do or say to get him to come. Charlie waits patiently, eager to hear what else she can come up with on her little mission.
"Did I mention this years theme is Treasure Island? And that I'm going to be a mermaid" it doesn't go unnoticed by either of them the way his grip tightens around her form. Valerie may not know this but Pirates was sort of Charlie's thing. Ever since he was a little boy he wanted to live a life free at sea, sword fighting, and winning the girl. When he got older the only thing that ever got him through the day was the image of Nolan walking the plank. He would be a fool to turn down playing a pirate, especially with his girl in a mermaid costume. One he hoped she got to keep so he could live out a few fantasies of his own.
"How long is practice?' he asks and Valerie tries to hide her excitement at his words.
"Today? Only an hour but that's just so they can finish casting" she tells him and Charlie nods, loosening his grip around her and starting to walk back up the trail.
"Well let's go, we're already late" and the grin that cracks across her face is one he wishes he could frame and keep on his wall forever. Even if he still didn't want to do the show, doing it with her would be worth it. He couldn't ever picture himself regretting it.
Yet when they reach the Hideout, which is surprisingly clean and brightly lit for the day, Charlie spots Nate beside Alex and Holly. That's when he realizes doing this show would mean working for Nate. It also meant dancing, lots of it, and Charlie was regretting agreeing more and more. Valerie can sense his uneasiness considering she has to drag him further and further into the building. When they finally reach their friends and other staff who stretch and practice as if this was real theater, Nate spots them both with the slyest of smirks on his face. Charlie wished then the world would swallow him whole.
"You convinced Dalton to do the show, I can't believe my eyes" he says and Valerie shoots him and glare before patting Charlie's back.
"He's more talented than you'd think" she offers, having shared a dance with him more than a few times during her stay here. Nate is quick to cross his arms and look Charlie up and down.
"Oh yeah, what kind of hidden talents you have up your sleeve Dalton?" he asks, apparently using his last name to seem higher up then him, it reminded him a lot of Dr. Hager. It made Charlie want to punch him.
"Not much, I can't sing, I can kinda dance, and I play the saxophone" this is news to everyone, including Valerie. Charlie doesn't miss the shock on any of their faces but Nate is already snapping his fingers at a member of the band, waving for him to come over. The boy shuffles along, someone Charlie doesn't know but Nate probably did from doing so much work together.
"Leonard, let Charlie borrow the sax for his tryout" he orders the boy and he looks sheepish, used to Nate's harassment, and a little nervous to hand over his obviously beloved instrument.
"Do you have a spare reed?" Charlie asks and the boys shoulders soften as he realizes Charlie knows what he's talking about. Quickly he nods and rushes to retrieve a fresh reed while removing his own from the instrument. The second the wooden piece is in Charlie's hand he has it in his mouth, gently taking Leonard's instrument and positioning it around his neck. Valerie doesn't want to admit how hot she finds it. Playing an instrument wasn't supposed to be sexy but she also knew what his tongue felt like.
When Charlie is ready he fastens the mouth piece to the instrument and feels out a few notes. Once comfortable he falls into a familiar tune, one none of them are able to name but know they've heard before. It's surprisingly beautiful and Charlie feels just as he did that night in the cave. Shocking his friends and feeling the music. It had been so long since he held the instrument in his hands and he hated that his passion for it died with Neil. What ever happened to gotta do more, gotta be more. When he's finished the room is silent, not having expected the kind of talent to come from the boy. Even Nate wears a shocked face, counting on Charlie failing and embarrassing himself in front of everyone. Yet now Charlie knows he should definitely do the show. If not for Valerie, for Neil.
"Wow, that was impressive" Leonard is the first to speak up when Charlie hands the instrument back. Charlie smiles at him before wrapping his arm around Valerie's waist once more.
"What do you say guys, am I in the show?" Charlie asks, eyeing Nate, Alex, and Holly who are shocked and impressed. Nate won't give him the benefit but that doesn't matter, Holly was in charge of casting. Based on her smile, he didn't have to worry about much.
"I'm not really sure how we can write in a saxophone but we still need someone to play first mate, so you're in!" Holly says and Valerie is quick to celebrate and pull the boy in a hug. As much as he didn't want his day to turn out like this he also can't help the smile on his face. Oddly reminiscent about his best friend yelling his name down the halls, excited to tell him he got the part. He liked to imagine himself calling Neil up tonight, telling him he was suddenly apart of theater and hear all the sassy jabs he would throw his way. It made his heart hurt but Charlie just reminded himself that it was love with no where to go.
"So, who's the Captain?" Charlie asks once the excitement has calmed down and Valerie snorts only lightly, not daring to look him in the eye.
"Well that would be Levi" Alex answers and Charlie chuckles. He should have expected that. He quickly reminds himself of Valerie in a mermaid costume before deciding to back out. Whether he had to answer to Levi or not.
"What necessarily happens to the first mate?" he asks, wanting to make sure this wouldn't be too embarrassing and Holly chuckles while handing him a script. One Charlie apparently had to learn now.
"He gets to Adler Island and is lured to his death by a beautiful mermaid" the red headed girl tells him, gesturing to his girlfriend and Charlie smirks. He couldn't of gotten an easier part.
"Perfect, no acting required" and Valerie gasps before trying to shove him. He instead catches her and pulls her flush against him. "Okay where do we start?"
That's how Charlie ends up practicing his part for the next hour, happy to find he doesn't have much singing or even lines required. It was especially nice since Levi was at work. That meant he got to practice all his Valerie scenes instead. For nearly an entire three minute sequence he had to stare at her awestruck while she sang Sea of Love by Phil Phillips. Not only was she an amazing singer but he didn't have to pretend to be awestruck. The only thing he had to fake was being lured to death. Other than that he could listen to her sing for hours, especially that song.
Come with me, my love
To the sea, the sea of love
I want to tell you how much I love you
"I'd say this is going to be our best show yet" Alex grins, surprisingly very good at being a director for how weird he was. Charlie shouldn't be surprised though, he was an activity director after all. Between him and Nate's choreography it made sense why they enjoyed putting on a show every year. Everyone here was extremely talented and he wished Neil was around to see it. Cheer him on just like he once did for him.
"You guys need me to stick around and sing Pirate's Life For Me or can I go make out with my sexy mermaid girlfriend now?" Charlie is quick to ask and Nate makes a disgusted face completely the opposite of Holly's awe face. Valerie blushes red in front of each of her friends and staff she wasn't even that close too.
"No, you're free. Enjoy the rest of the day matey" Alex salutes and Charlie laughs before lacing his fingers with Valerie's and starting towards the door.
"Bye guys!" she calls out and Charlie just barely catches them returning the sentiment as he pulls her out the door. Once in the now dark woods Charlie's hands travel to less inappropriate regions, lips quickly finding her neck.
"This is a total turnaround for Mr. I don't want to do the show" Valerie says, trying to keep her eyes from fluttering shut at the sensation. One of his hands gripped her waist as she walked in front of him, the other keeping her close right under breast, practically cupping it, and she wished he'd give up steadying her and actually touch her. Especially with the filthy way he was devouring her neck.
"What can I say, I have a thing for mermaids" he mutters against her skin, quickly going back to work and more than likely leaving a mark. Charlie was too hungry for her to care and Valerie was too turned on to care. "Besides I recall someone promising me pleasure in ways I prefer after practice"
"I don't think we ever came to an agreement" Valerie teases and the small squeeze to her waist indicates she'll more than likely be in trouble if she keeps the attitude up. It make's her want to mess with him more. Eager to see what he would do to her.
"Agreements aside V, I might actually die if I don't have you soon" he says in that breathy and messy tone and Valerie can't help but push her legs together. Even if she nearly trips up as they continue walking.
"Death is dramatic, I'm sure you'll live" and this earns her a bite to her neck. Unable to suppress the moan she gives herself up and pretty quickly they make their way to the boathouse instead of the cabins. Charlie more desperate than before.
It's dark when they're inside and Charlie removes his hold from her only briefly to light the kerosene lantern. When the warm hazy light fills the space he finds Valerie already on her knees and starting to fumble with the zipper on his pants. If he wasn't hard before he definitely was now. His head tips back, eyeing the wooden ceiling when he feels her fingers slide into his waistband and tongue glide up his happy trail.
"You're gonna be the death of me" is all he says before his shorts and boxers are tugged down to his ankles. His length jumps in the cool night air and from being turned on. Valerie just smiles before kissing the tip and looking like a dream beneath him.
"So fucking pretty" she swears, fingers curling around the base of his cock and Charlie lets out a desperate and whiny moan. Needing her to do something other than admire his cock.
"Please Val, do something" he begs and she just grins, guiding him to sit his bare ass on the empty cot. When he's finally in position she kisses his tip once more before finally taking some of his length into her mouth. He tries to stay calm the more and more she takes but he barely makes it halfway before his hands are tangled in her hair. Careful to not shove her head the entire way. Yet based on the way she hums around his dick, he's pretty sure she wouldn't mind.
Charlie guides her to take his full length, nudging the back of her throat and fighting the gag reflex. Finally she pulls back, tears already burning her eyes before continuing to suck him off. Charlie whines and begs like a needy mess the whole time, trying not to rut into her mouth as she takes him so well. When he's sure he won't last any longer she pulls back, wiping her chin with her arm, and smiling at him like the devil. It was sexy seeing her like this knowing how kind and innocent she seemed out of the bedroom.
"You were so cute in practice today, I never knew you could play saxophone" she tells him as she lifts from her knees, hands grabbing the ends of her dress and starting to lift it over her head. Charlie watches in a daze, as if he can't retain a word she's saying.
"I can play clarinet too, but I hate it. When do you think you'll get your mermaid costume?" he changes the topic, not even interested in discussing his musical abilities. He was more concerned about all the ways he would have her.
"Someone really has a thing for the whole mermaids and pirates thing huh?" she asks, shimmying the white panties down her legs. Charlie's throat dries as she continues stripping for him, barely even registering how painful his strained length is. Especially when he sees how wet she already is.
"I always wanted to be a pirate, since I was a little kid. When I got older that included a hot mermaid girlfriend" he admits with no better judgement as she crawls onto his lap. His tip barely grazes against her folds and he's already seething at the sensation. Desperate to be inside of her.
"Really? Captain Charlie then," and Charlie isn't proud to admit the way his cock jumps at the name title. Yet Valerie notices and she's quick to grasp his length and drag him through her folds. It makes Charlie whimper.
"Yes, definitely not first mate" he says with the shake of his head and Valerie grins, lining him up with her entrance before slowly sinking down him. Intrigued by his wild fantasy.
"I bet Captain Charlie is a dirty pirate. Always drinking rum and taking things that don't belong to him. Kidnapping mermaids and having his way with them" the more she talks the more he has to fight not to cum, imaging her with pretty seashells in her hair and hair hanging over her breasts. What a beautiful fucking mermaid.
"Baby you're so tight" Charlie whines once she's fully sat on him and she grins, hugging him close before grinding on his length, nudging that spot inside of her slowly. Keeping him as deep as she can get him inside her.
"Now don't cum, or I'll have to make you walk the plank"

first tentative meta post about wu xie my beloved, more specifically about his characterization in his less than stellar moments, sparked by a discussion with @thelaithlyworm about whether or not the lost tomb 2.5 is in character for wu xie according to the books. i figured i'd take the rest of my thoughts to a separate post since our exchange was clogging up poor OP’s replies, and because i feel like a difference in opinion like this is worth being made public if only so people can get both sides of a rare discussion about the books and reach their own conclusions, so for those who are interested here’s a link to the original post where this discussion takes place in the replies if you'd like the full context. sorry in advance for how long this will likely be, and i hope there's no problem with me directly tackling some of the arguments that were made in favor of lost tomb 2.5 being an accurate adaptation of book wu xie's characterization, which is a take i strongly disagree with
i think much of the problem in the discussion simply lies in the fact that we seem to have fundamentally different interpretations of wu xie’s character in the books, because as i see it, none of the insistences that were quoted prove that wu xie has ever acted the way he does in 2.5 in the books—if anything, they disprove it. the quote from ch. 92 of sand sea that was brought up goes as follows:
this is where i believe the problem of different interpretations is at play, and to be fair some of it is ambiguous so there is some leeway, but i read this recollection very differently from how @thelaithlyworm seems to. as i see it, wu xie is recalling a time where pangzi, understandably concerned about his friend because he sees the toll the sha hai plan is taking on wu xie, and the lengths he’s having to go to in order to set it in motion, tells him it’s not too late to stop and turn back. to which wu xie replies that even if he had decided to stop and live his life blissfully unaware of the extent of the wangs' reach and their machinations, things would have caught up to him eventually given they’d infiltrated the jiumen to the extent they had.
“and at that time you’ll have already left me one by one, leaving me to foolishly face those fists” is the most ambiguous as to what exactly it's referring to, but i personally see it as referencing either the fact wu xie and his friends would have by then eventually drifted apart or they'd have stopped giving him their support should he have decided to ignore the truth and sit around doing nothing, or more sinisterly, would have potentially all been replaced by then if there hadn't been a plan in motion. it's likely a little bit of both. to which pangzi replies that he’s right, conceding and agreeing that wu xie never truly had a choice about his involvement to begin with, which is more or less the entire point of sand sea and the wider narrative of the main story.
no part of this conversation is reminiscent of the open conflict between them in 2.5 in that neither of them here are angry, and neither of them are even aggressive or antagonistic towards each other or in general. this is quite a calm if resigned conversation wu xie is recalling that also fits the overall cynical tone of the chapter itself, and wu xie’s certainly not acting out and pushing his friends away in a bid to deal with everything himself. if anything the entire point of sand sea is to show that despite each character acting independently, the sha hai plan only succeeded because they worked together and not alone, and that wu xie needed his support system to create an invisible yet tangilble network that could take down the wangs. so no part of this particular passage reads as though pangzi is saying he ever considered bailing on wu xie because of his behavior, and even if that were the case, it would still be referring to a hypothetical situation and not their current one.
wang meng's behavior in ten years later is also not the greatest example to use as an argument to prove 2.5 wu xie’s characterization is present in the books, mostly because it's actually wang meng himself who's more so the one acting like that than wu xie himself. wang meng, in his concern for wu xie, tries to guilt trip him into letting go of his obsession with xiaoge, and he is the one who instigates a conflict with wu xie that culminates in him staging xiaoge's "death" as a last ditch effort once spewing bottled up vitriol at wu xie and threatening to take over wushanju don't work.
it's however misguided at best given that not only did all of wu xie's close friends who participated in the sha hai plan agree to do so willingly (i’m of course not talking about li cu and co among others who very much did not consent) and so accusing wu xie of having coerced them takes away from their own agency, but the sha hai plan was a necessity beyond freeing xiaoge, which is something wang meng fails to understand. wang meng makes the mistake many people in the fandom do of pinning wu xie’s determination to see that plan through solely on his desire to free xiaoge, and of course that’s an important part of it, but the narrative makes a point of building up over the course of the main books and tibetan sea flower that wu xie’s entire family was at stake as well, and had been for several generations, so on a personal level it went beyond xiaoge alone. but again, whatever truth there is to wang meng’s words (which is an interesting but entirely different topic) still doesn’t make it true that wu xie was either actively petty or vitriolic towards his friends as a way to vent his own frustrations.
several moments in which wu xie objectively does terrible things or acts horribly were listed as a way of justifying that his behavior in 2.5 is in character and in line with how he acts in the books. and of course these moments do happen, and it's very true in sand sea especially that wu xie does terrible things (it's part of what makes him such an interesting character). but again, this argument feels somewhat in bad faith in that it conflates all negative behavior and traits together regardless of what specific shape those negative behaviors take in order to justify that his portrayal in 2.5 is faithful to the books simply because he displays negative behavior in that adaptation, completely disregarding that his less than stellar actions and emotions aren't expressed in the same ways in the books and in 2.5. my dislike of wu xie in 2.5 doesn't stem from him doing unlikeable things, otherwise i wouldn't like wu xie as a character in general. wu xie absolutely does do a lot of terrible things in sand sea especially, but the inherent problem with 2.5 is that none of the things he does or the way he acts in the books ever lines up with the specific way he acts in 2.5.
in the books, even before sand sea, yes wu xie is manipulative (re: threatening bodily harm to himself to force wu erbai into sharing information with him), yes he cut up bodies and sent them to li cu among other extremely morally questionable things, yes he kidnapped li cu and made him go through literal hell, and likely did much the same to other people before him (hence the seventeen scars on his arm). he has and continues to have even in recent book canon re: yucun biji the ability and will to inflict permanent psychic damage on people he deems to be deserving of it or a threat. he’s by no means perfect or even overly kind, and if someone were to say that a number of the earlier drama adaptations especially soften his character and make him much more wide-eyed and innocent than he actually is in the books, i would absolutely agree with them. i would also agree if someone said that gap in characterization is why some people don’t like him much in the sand sea drama. but the fact is for all the negative traits and behavior he displays at varying points in the books, none of them are ever expressed in the very specific way they are in 2.5.
@thelaithlyworm rightfully mentions wu xie's ptsd as justification for much of his more "toxic" reactions to things, and his ptsd is incredibly important in understanding how wu xie works as a character and what his experiences have forged him into, to the point it's a topic that deserves its own in-depth post. but saying we have different definitions of what ptsd is is both accurate to the complex nature of ptsd, and a bit disingenious because of the complex nature of ptsd, because the emotional dysregulation and impaired decision-making it entails won’t necessarily manifest in the same ways in different people.
in 2.5 wu xie, ptsd manifests in the form of vitriol and anger he directs at pretty much everyone in his immediate vicinity, more especially pangzi, because it has no other outlet in that situation than outwards. and i’m not saying ptsd expressing itself like that never happens, because it very much does. what i'm saying is that book wu xie's ptsd, while very real, doesn't manifest in the way it does in 2.5 wu xie.
in book wu xie, ptsd manifests in much more internalized ways, and so he’s far more prone to directing the anger and pent-up emotions inwards through self-harm, both mental and physical (i.e. the scars on his arm, his persistent self-hatred, etc.), and the emotional dysregulation very often comes not in the form of chaotically expressed emotions, but rather abnormal lack of them, as arguably wu xie's bad coping mechanism is emotional dissociation, and when the emotions are truly too strong to be distanced from, they come out in the form of panic attacks he often doesn’t recognize as such (i.e. when he finds xiaoge and believes he’s dead in book 8, or when he has flashbacks on their way to motuo in yucun traveling notes) or of general breakdowns (i.e. wu xie stays numb once xiaoge disappears behind the gate up until he starts crying in the street once he returns to hangzhou).
it’s incredibly rare that wu xie’s trauma directs itself outwards towards his loved ones, and while he might do so in his head quite frequently (which we the readers see since most of the books are from wu xie's point of view), it's rare he actually externalizes it, and since his comments can only lead to conflict if they're extrernalized, there's rarely ever genuine conflict between him and his friends. one of the only times it happens with pangzi specifically is in tibetan sea flower were he makes an honestly cruel dig at pangzi about yuncai because pangzi’s withheld information about xiaoge from him:
but even this scene, which is the closest to anything that's portrayed in 2.5 between them, plays out differently, not only because wu xie knows very well he’s going too far, his mention of yuncai isn't solely an outlet for his anger. he’s very consciously trying to bait pangzi into telling him what he knows, and so aims at where he knows will hurt most. it's targeted and mean because it's meant to be, but it's also not a gratuitious outlet either unlike his comments are more often than not in 2.5. it's manipulation, and he's certainly not trying to push pangzi away, nor is it driving a wedge between them despite how uncalled for his comment it. and more importantly, pangzi once again proves himself to be the most emotionally stable of the iron triangle by not stooping to that level or making light of the conversation. he knows perfectly well what wu xie is doing, so any conflict is diffused before it can even take root, and stays an isolated incident, whereas in 2.5, conflict is an underlying theme.
ironically there are more examples of this type directed at xiaoge, but even those don't showcase the same blind anger or gratuitous meanness that 2.5 wu xie consistently displays, and it's that specifically that's out of character. while wu xie vents his frustrations at xiaoge in book 4 over being kept in the dark, he's more serious about it than angry, and very quickly realizes his foot-in-mouth comment and backtracks accordingly:
he's at his most openly angry with xiaoge at the end of book 8 when xiaoge leaves them all in banai, and even goes as far as trying to have xiaoge detained by qiu dekao in a last ditch effort to force him to stay (which in itself is the real manifestation of him not being able to control his emotions correctly and reason going out the window where xiaoge is concerned, and it only ever really happens in relation to xiaoge, but that's also a topic for another post):
but again, while he's visibly angry and upset, and is looking for support from others around him to validate his upset at xiaoge leaving, he never actually spews any vitriol at xiaoge himself despite his anger being obvious, never actually calls him names outside of his own head despite the rare quality of his anger, never tries to instigate conflict for the sake of venting his overflowing emotions, nor does he ultimately stop xiaoge from leaving. even later as he follows xiaoge up changbai mountain, his desperation eventually turns into resignation and acceptance, not venting.
this post is way too long, but my entire point here as it has been from the start of this discussion is that while wu xie in the books does get angry, he does have ptsd, it does manifest in the ugliest ways and he's certainly not an angel, his anger in general never veers into extended open conflict or gratuitous vitriol thrown at his loved ones as a misguided form of venting his own emotions like it does throughout the vast majority of lost tomb 2.5, just like a number of the conflicts he gets into with other characters stem from out of character reactions from those characters to begin with (i.e. xiao hua absolutely losing it over wu xie hiding wu sanxing's betrayal of xie lianhuan in 2.5 vs. this information being very casually received in book 7). and that's where my point of contention with that adaptation lies.
i feel as though this is a case of agreeing to disagree as far as interpretation of wu xie's character goes, and that's absolutely fine, but in the same way that it's alright to dislike things simply because, it's equally as alright to like things for the same reasons. it's fine to like lost tomb 2.5, and my opinion of it is purely my own, but liking it doesn't necessarily have to be rooted in whether it's adapting the books correctly, even if it can be.
my dislike of 2.5 stems from how i consider it to be out of character by comparison to the books, and my entire point here has been to explain that different interpretations of any particular source material can exist, and therefore yes, it's entirely possible to view 2.5 wu xie as out of character, just as it's entirely possible to dislike that adaptation for the same reason. and i'm far from the only person to have this interpretation. so no, my dislike of 2.5 doesn't come from not liking it when wu xie’s doing unlikeable things, or else i wouldn't like wu xie as a character, nor is it because i don’t understand what ptsd is given the particular ways in which it can manifest from one specific person to another
#i just have strong opinions about this sorry if it's coming off strong#and i'm perfectly willing to debate with quotes etc#but lbr there's a reason lost tomb 2.5 is more or less unanimously the most disliked adaptation across the board#both in the western fandom and chinese fandom#though tbf the chinese fandom doesn't tend to like the dramas all that much in general#which is valid sometimes tbh given some of the takes i've seen about dmbj as a whole from people who refuse to touch the books but well#still#first wu xie meta#exciting#dmbj#dmbj meta#wu xie#dmbj novels#lost tomb 2.5

Randomly thinking about how weird it is that Jake and Amy are by far my favorite sitcom couple when I never like the main couple in a sitcom the most and while a lot of that is just personal taste I think there are a couple of things B99 does very well just like structurally with their relationship.
For one they don't start off in love. While they start hinting pretty earlier that there might be something more to the relationships then the friendly rivalry both present S1 its not until the end of the season that Jake acknowledges or becomes aware of any interest in her "romantic styles" and Amy doesn't clearly show interest in him until she breaks up with Teddy. This is critical because it gives them time to build a dynamic and establish chemistry that feels authentic instead of the we open on one or both parties having some interest or crush on the other and almost all the chemistry comes from this supposed interest and/or history which mostly works but often leaves the relationship without a core of genuine compatibility which can make it hard to understand why the relationship is worth it when sitcom drama inevitably occurs. IMO Ross and Rachel and Lenard and Penny both suffer from this quite badly and Eric and Donna get it a little bit. The other thing I think B99 does quite well is Jake and Amy have relatively little drama directly with each other. They struggle with timing as one is dating someone else then the other and they have some concerns about potential fallout at work but direct fights with each other about things they do to each other a few and far between. This is one where I think Donna and Eric struggle, That 70s Show gets some leeway because part of the point is it's a teen relationship and they are figuring out some of this dating stuff and messing it up on the way but still so much of the drama is just Donna and Eric disagree about something and fight about it which is fine and reasonable, things happen in a relationship but so much of the drama and plot especially in the early seasons is just them so they fight episode after episode to a point where it can start to feel like do these two even actually get along? By comparison B99 does a good job of having enough other stuff going on that the relationship drama doesn't take up too much screen time and the couple can just like be convincingly in love instead of fighting all the time.
I don't know I'm sure this stuff isn't unique to B99 and Jake and Amy, as I said at the top a lot of my appreciation for the relationship is just that I'm personally really fond of their dynamic. Nor do I hate the counter examples I used I like the big bang theory, friends and that 70s show and I can appreciate all of the mentioned relationships they all have their moments even if none of them are my personal favorites but I'd never really thought about how the structure of B99 really helps to make Jake and Amy more compelling and I thought that was interesting

ANOTHER regen question!
Let's see if I phrase this one right it's been rolling in my brain a bit
Assumptions are the character heals a slower than Wolverine and they've just suffered some serious blood loss. Like they lost ~3L of it and the wound has now closed up and the body's working to create as much blood as possible.
Given how bone marrow is where blood comes from, what sorts of things might they have to deal with in the recovery period? Like, as the body is taxing the marrow like that (and/or whatever else it has to)?
I'm going to assume this is a ~200lb man, just to give some leeway. So a big guy like this would have maybe 6 liters of blood in him (most humans range from 4-6 L). If he loses ~3 L, I would say he would probably just die. If blood loss is >40%, that's a Class IV hemorrhage, which presents with absent peripheral pulses, hypotension (low blood pressure), and no peepee output. This person will go into hemorrhagic shock. Since they lack the oxygen-carrying hemoglobin that is found in blood, they will not be able to supply oxygen to their tissues. This stops the usually metabolic processes and switches the body to anaerobic metabolism, which makes lactic acid and very little ATP (energy). Lactic acid leads to acidosis. Acidosis leads to cell death, coma, and plain ole death. He will die.
But wait! He's got regenetative powers to save him, right? No. If his powers aren't magical, then he will still die. Because regeneration is based on being able to replicate cells very quickly, he would need to do it fast enough to beat the cells that are dying. Unfortunately, he doesn't have enough ATP to do normal cell stuff and make a bunch more. Replication of cells requires a lot of ATP (energy). So he will still die.
Now, let me answer the second question, and we will go back to when he is still alive. Let's change it so he only lost ~30% of his blood volume (1.8L). He's still not doing good (he has Class III hemorrhage) but he can live. This will present with pallor, coolness in the limbs, altered mental status, narrowing blood pressure (the top and bottom numbers are getting close together), increased respiratory rate, and increased heart rate. The body is trying to keep blood flow to the vital organs. Let's say he survives and now he's home and trying to recover.
Blood has a lot of things in it, but the important bits are plasma (the liquid bit which makes up ~55% of blood), red blood cells (they carry oxygen), platelets (for clotting) and white blood cells (part of the immune system).
The most important one here are the RBCs. 90% of plasma is water, and you won't die right away without the other ones. The body measures RBCs through the kidney. If the kidney sees that you don't have enough of them, then it sends a hormone (EPO) to the spongey inner bone where blood is made. EPO causes more stem cells to turn into RBCs (instead of WBCs or platelets). To make these, you need iron. The iron stores of the body will be used, and you will take up more iron from your food.
Overall, I'd say the guy will feel like shit, and he should probably take a break for about 3 months while he replinishes his blood supply. He should eat foods high in iron, maybe take an iron supplement. But he'll be anemic while he recovers and be low on those other blood cells. Honestly, his regen powers aren't that useful here. They were useful in fixing whatever caused the blood loss, keeping him from losing a ton of cells to blood supply issues, and that's about it. If he doesn't have an advanced factor, then he can't really be helped with making more RBCs.
I hope I answered your question, and thank you very much for asking it!

COME GET YOUR FOOD @mousermayhem
Leo took a breath as he held his hand up to knock on the door. He wasn't sure how the other turtle would feel about the brace, or if he'd react much at all. Hopefully it was the latter, but after his reaction to food… Leo finally knocked.
Opening the door didn't reveal much, and he didn't know why he'd felt like it would. Slash simply cracked one eye open as he entered, tracking him as Leo approached the bed and held the brace up for Slash to see. "Cody was able to make this based off of our measurements, so it should work for you. We can always adjust it if it doesn't."
Slash raised an eyebrow— those markings were going to take some getting used to— before carefully pushing himself up and to the edge of the bed. "Do I need to stand up for this?" Leo shook his head,
"No, I'd really prefer you didn't." Slash nodded, staying perfectly still while Leo made sure the brace sat properly around his hips and wrapped the straps around his thigh. "Okay, does it feel alright? Not too tight or too loose or anything?" If the straps were putting too much pressure on his stitches they'd need another solution entirely…
Slash hummed, rubbing the material between two fingers as he spoke, "It feels fine." Leo frowned at the vague, monotone answer. He wasn't sure what the fascination with the fabric meant, or if pushing for clarification would be productive. He'd never needed to push Raph with a question like this. His brother always gave straightforward responses in these situations, but then again… this turtle wasn't really Raph.
"Do you… want to try standing- oh we're up okay-" Slash had stood before Leo could finish the sentence, huffing when his foot hit the ground. Leo himself had to take a moment to breathe. He had Raph's memories, he should know better than to rush an injury like this! Leo shook his head when he noticed the expectant look on the other turtle's face.
"You're sure it isn't pinching or anything?"
"It's fine." That was practically the other teen's catchphrase at this point.
"If you're sure… just don't walk on it too much yet. Dislocating a joint like that weakens the muscles holding it in place, so it's easy for the bone to pop right back out if you're not careful." Which Slash should know, but Leo wasn't taking any chances.
Slash nodded, but still tried taking a few steps. Leo pretended not to see the wince each time weight shifted to the injured leg. It would be a bit hypocritical of him to tell the other to stop and sit down immediately.
Apparently content with the test of his injuries, Slash returned to sitting on the bed. Well, that meant it was time to address the other bit. "So… you have a little more freedom now." When Leo hesitated the other turtle rolled his eyes,
"Just spit it out."
"Well, you can wander around in here, but there's an alarm if you try to leave the infirmary."
…
"That's it?"
"That's it." Leo sighed, "Look, dad trusts you, so you're getting a bit of leeway. Don't throw that trust back in our faces and it stays that way, got it?"
"The hell does he trust me for? I've been fighting you."
"You'd have to ask him. Knowing dad I wouldn't count on a straight answer, but he'll give you something." For his part, Leo saw some merit in what Mikey had said about the other teen being more 'chill' than the rest of the dark turtles. He just. Wasn't going to bring that up yet.
"Hm."
"Anyway… Mikey mentioned you have some nice art. Do you draw a lot?" Perfect. Not awkward at all Leo. Slash seemed wary of the question, squinting at Leo as he spoke,
"I guess. It's… fun enough."
"Cool." Well that went nowhere. Leo fidgeted with his hands. How did you carry a conversation with someone who seemed determined to give you nothing to work with? Mikey could ramble forever, but…
Slash surprised him when he spoke up again, "So Mikey draws, and cooks I guess? Donnie does tech… what do you do? For fun."
"Oh, hm… well all four of us play videogames, but I've tried a lot more since we came to the future. There are a lot of good ones! So many of them let you go to space and explore; Donnie was surprised by the accuracy of some of them. Even if I've been to space myself it's so interesting to explore the universes these games have."
"The planets and aliens are so much more imaginative than what I've played before. Some of them let you build the whole ship, and then there are online ones and you can have a whole crew with real people-" Leo paused, rubbing the back of his neck, "Sorry, I really started going there. I like space… obviously."
Slash surprised him a second time when Leo caught a glimpse of a thoughtful look, although it was quickly smoothed over into a neutral mask. "Talk all you want. I don't care." Leo hummed, smiling slightly,
"Sure, just don't tell Mikey that unless you're prepared to be there for a couple hours." Slash huffed in response— was Dark Mikey the same way? "Well if you don't mind me talking for a while… how much do you know about making weapons?"
"That depends on what you mean by 'making them'."
…
…
…
Slash had listened… far more patiently than Leo had expected. It was the most the other had reminded him of Raph so far. Dad kept reminding them that the two turtles weren't the same person… and he knew that. He did. He saw the differences.
It was nice, though, not feeling like he had to act like the oldest constantly. And that was just it, Slash felt older, something only Raph managed most times. Leo couldn't put his finger on exactly what made both of them able to do that.
Leo flopped backwards onto his bed. If Slash was really what he seemed, then maybe it wasn't too much to hope for the other dark turtles to- well. Maybe not. As far as they knew, the other three had almost killed Slash. They never did ask what happened, did they?
They knew Slash had been grabbed multiple times and not much else. What had started the fight in the first place? Was it actually all three siblings who'd attacked Slash or just one? Had fights been that violent before? Why was Dunn letting them happen? He had. So many questions. Would Slash even be telling the truth?
Leo groaned and started drumming his fingers against his plastron. At least the brace was on. Slash was healing, so… if he really wanted to do any harm it wouldn't be long before they found out. Probably. He supposed Slash just being an incredibly good actor wasn't entirely off the table. It would sure be… interesting, if that was the case.
Bonus, it’s Slash:

Voyager rewatch s2 ep26: Basics pt 1
Voyager's first season finale cliffhanger! While I hated cliffhangers back in the day (waiting months to find out what happened was not fun, let me tell you) I think this one was pretty good in general, and it certainly set up some very high stakes to be resolved in the next season opener.
I'm not a fan of the Seska baby plot, and I honestly don't see how they wouldn't have figured out it was a trick, but I guess suspension of disbelief is required here. If I were Janeway, I'd never risk my entire ship to go rescue some baby who's most likely not even in any danger, but I guess when someone tells you they love you, it puts you in a weird bind where you kind of have to give them leeway to go back for the kid they didn't want with the Cardassian spy you both hate. (But yet, no such concern for the Threshold lizard babies- why didn't they go back for them??? Huh??? Why are Cardassian babies so much more important than lizard babies?? Answer me that, Kathryn! And I see Commander 'fuck them kids' Chakotay whistles a different tune when it's his unwanted space children they want to leave behind! Dude really hates Tom Paris that much, doesn't he?? What did he ever do to you, Chakotay?? I'm joking, but also a little bit serious.)
We get some Suder scenes, where, thanks to his mind meld with Tuvok, he's now just a weird ass dude obsessed with gardening, which, somehow, makes him even creepier.
If you ignore how stupid the actual plot itself is, the rest of the episode, where they try to figure out a way through Kazon space, and come up with ingenious ways of tricking the Kazon into thinking they have more ships, is actually pretty interesting stuff. (It could have done without the zany gag of accidentally projecting the Doctor into space in the middle of the battle- the whole episode has been pretty serious, and it was a little too incongrous to stick a silly gag in there while shit is otherwise getting very real.)
The part where the Kazon take over the ship is pretty hair raising stuff, I don't think we'd ever seen anyone capture a Starfleet ship on screen before. It definitely did not need the gross gendered violence thrown in there though- a bad guy hitting a Starfleet captain on their own ship is enough to show villiany, we didn't need the 'you're just a woman, shut up' bs in there too, that was just gratuitous misogyny. We've already established the Kazon are misogynists, there was absolutely no reason to put it in there. And did they really have to have Seska making a false rape accusation? The misogynist trope that women just go around making false rape accusations to get what they want is only bolstered by stuff like this, and it's harmful and unnecessary. We already know that Seska is bad, they didn't need to add that at all. (And anyway, a patriarchal society like the Kazon probably wouldn't even care or believe her, so they should have made up another reason for Cullah to want the kid.)
Leaving the crew stranded on a planet with no Voyager, no tech, a bunch of volcanos, some possibly unfriendly natives, AND a large snakey-dragony creature looming in the background seems almost like overkill in terms of having enough peril to place them in, but I'll go with it. Everything moved along at a good pace, and having the ship stolen is a hell of a cliffhanger. Seeing the Kazon fly Voyager away from her crew is deeply sad, and you know seeing that would have just lit a fire in Janeway and company to work even harder to get it back. And they do have a small sliver of hope of rescue- Tom Paris is out there in a shuttle, which was presumed, but not confirmed, to be destroyed (because of course Tom volunteered to fly a shuttle through a space battle to go back and get help) and Suder is still on board, having hidden in the vents when the Kazon takeover, and he said he wants to do something for the ship, so he's probably gonna fall back on what he knows best: murder! But like, its for a good cause this time- he's gonna kill those Kazon and present them to Janeway llke a cat bringing it's owner a dead mouse lol.
So yeah, even though I had a few issues in this ep, it's still an edge of your seat cliffhanger where you have to see what happens next.
Tl;dr: Some questionable story choices, but done with enough panache that it compels you to find out what happens in the second part asap.

Hey Michelle! Can I ask #11, #17, #20, #47 for our little ask game? 😘
Ooooh these are great questions! 🥰
11. what’s something neat you’ve learned while doing research for something you were writing? also, how much do you worry about doing research in general?
In general I'd call myself a "semi" researcher. Sometimes I go really in-depth with it, others I will allow myself a bit of leeway. I'll say fics that tend to have a more medical situation I try to do more research on. For example, Not Losing You deals with Dean having cancer and I was extremely nervous about getting the details right. A part of that story deals with Dean needing a bone marrow transplant and I discovered that patients that have the procedure done have a ~60% survival rate 1 year post transplant (when you factor in a bunch of stuff like non-familiar donors). It's a risky procedure for sure. It's not a guarantee but if you make it that far, your odds increase with each year and many people end up living full life spans without recurrence. Science has always been incredibly interesting to me so I love discovering facts like that.
17. what is your favorite line you’ve ever written?
That's a tough one. I'm limiting myself to Dean stuff for this just so it doesn't take me five years to dig through a 1,000 fics 😂
From Love Her (because the whole story builds towards this):
“I want my dad,” you said. “I’m sorry Y/N but you can’t see your dad right now,” he said. “Why not?” you asked. “Well it’s a little dangerous and-” “I want my dad. I want Dean,” you said, staring up at him. “I want to see my dad.”
From Broken Like Me (because this story deals heavily with body image issues and this moment is a turning point for the reader):
“How can you say that,” you said, trying to pull his hands away from your face but failing. “I’m not pretty without the scar and with it I’m hideous.” “Agree to disagree,” he said, sliding a hand up, tracing over the skin. “I know you hate this but I love it.” “Why?” you asked, fighting back another round of sniffles. “It means you’re alive. I got a chance to meet you and now I get to be with you,” he said. “I wish you could see that and it’s okay that you don’t. Maybe someday you will.”
From Unconventional (because the SASS on this girl is some of my favorite):
“Yes, Mr. Carter?” “That is a beautiful collar,” he said. “I suppose. I like yours too,” you said. “I’m not wearing a collar, Omega.” “My mistake. I see you wearing that tie and my little Omega brain goes someone left your leash on you,” you said, giving him a smile. Dean bit down a smile as you picked up your lemonade, John smirking as Mr. Carter cleared his throat. “If you were my Omega, I’d have you muted,” said Carter. “If I were your Omega, I’d off myself,” you said.
Okay, last one from 39 Hours because it just sets the tone of who Dean is and his goals so fast (and explains the title):
“A case goes cold after the first 48 hours statistically. Out here in the small town environment, I put that at 45. You were taken from your home at approximately 2:30 this morning. You escaped the vehicle you were in approximately twenty minutes later, did a combination of hiding and running for the next several hours until you worked your way back to town where at such time authorities were called. You were taken back to the scene at which point it was determined that my guy is the one that took you. It took me another two hours to get here, twenty minutes of getting up to speed and it’s already 8:45 so I’ve really only got 38 hours and 45 minutes left,” said Dean, glancing over at you. “How much more of my time would you like to waste?”
20. what is your favorite trope to write?
This is a tough one. I love so many of them but there's something about a good enemies to lovers. There's immediate angst and conflict to play with naturally from the characters on top of the plot. A lot of my favorite stories I've written have that theme I've noticed without even realizing.
47. what story are you most proud of?
Much like you, the stories that get a big emotional response or people have told me have helped them through a bad day or time mean the absolute world to me. This isn't necessarily the story I'm most proud of because it's hard to pick just one but The Game (Dean x reader) comes to mind.
I'm known for my happy endings and I basically wrote a story where I open with Dean is dead and the reader is grieving which is soooo not my writing style. I'm not a crier and I was crying writing this one. I got comments from people like myself that I know also aren't that way and there's something giddy about making the stone-faced readers sob 😂 But this story also feels real, like it could have easily happened in the show and is something Dean would have done. This is one I highly recommend!
Thanks for the questions Zep! This took me down memory lane looking at old fics again! 💕

23.5 Ep 10
Last week we introduced a little angst via Sun possibly going to the US for a year, Alpha having some relatable struggles regarding her place in life and her family, and poor Aylin being accosted by everyone and dealing with it by smashing her food in Ton's face (no sadness for him, he deserved it).
Sigh. I should have known they'd do the towel falls and panic ensues thing. I can't pretend it doesn't make sense, lol. And we still have that gloriously sensual kiss from the end so I can't really complain.
Dinner with the folks. Poor Ongsa, she's so nervous, but Sun's family is so warm and lovely.
AW I like Sun's parents. I always love it when parents react positively in BLs and GLs. My favorite is still Akk's parents in The Eclipse, but He's Coming to Me was good too.
Okay. I don't know how other people feel about this, but I will say that I firmly believe in not changing your plans for a love interest. Do not switch colleges, do not change cities or reject a great job offer or decide not to go to the States to study in what is a golden opportunity for you. Do NOT. Especially not when you are a freaking teenager, my god.
I hope Luna feels bad. I love her but Aylin's my girl and she totally pushed her into a corner. I still do wonder if Aylin does want friends but she doesn't know how to handle people being genuinely nice to her, but she has to go at her own pace. And Ton was way out of line. Read the room, himbo. Some people don't want you all up in their face.
I don't know the more I thought about it the more annoying it got to me. I'm not really mad at anyone - they're all stupid kids tbh and I remember enough about being a stupid kid that I can give them some leeway, mostly because none of them meant any harm - but I do think that the appalled reaction was aimed at the wrong person in that situation.
I just want Aylin to be happy okay? Whatever that looks like for her.
You know, it would amuse me if Ton and Mawin wound up together after all of this. I don't think that's what's gonna happen but it would amuse me.
I still think that Ton only wants Charoen because she doesn't want him. I would love it if they don't end up together but I don't have that much hope.
Oh no. Please you two do not make her feel bad.
Oh Aylin.
Look at her face. I just have to say it, View is so damn good in this role.
"But we're friends" doesn't really cut it when she's spent most of her life being picked on, Charoen.
YES Bambam tell them. Genuinely, I do love that the girls are getting this kind of...gentle reminder from them that not everyone is the same and that just because you want someone to open up or talk to you doesn't mean that they are ready, and if they are never ready or never want to that's their choice. I do think that they're both pushy because they care about Aylin, but well. They needed to hear to slow their roll. And I do love the gentle way that Bambam lead them to that conclusion on their own.
Ugh Nida and Bambam are great. Now if they would just kiss, please.
Okay I know that this year separation sucks when you're young and in love. And that a lot can change. But also, maybe I'm just unromantic because I'd still do it. I also knew that Ongsa would not want to go with her, although my guess is that in the end she does.
Bambam and Nida! Bambam and Nida!
Right. I totally want them to get together I will cry if they don't but. But I am also really loving watching Bambam reach new oblivious heights.
I do wonder what all this looks like to Ongsa's parents. Literally every time they have a meal with these kids someone is having an issue.
Do NOT - DAMMIT SUN.
I'm sorry. I just don't think that it's romantic.
Yeah called this with Aylin. I think that I might have to think about this for a bit.
Oh Ton. This fucking guy.
And yes, you can make her smile and that's a good thing. Just stay out of her face.
FINALLY. YES BAMBAM YOU ARE THE DENSEST.
Aw that's a yes. NOW KISS. KISS KISS KISS.
Well that was cute. Methinks that even if the cards tell Bambam to stay far away she'll find a way to interpret them the way she wants, lol. Love that for her.
I actually kind of love that Ongsa is being the mature one here. And I agree with her. Because I really do feel that when you do something like that - give up on a dream because of a relationship - it will more often than not become a crack in that same relationship you were so desperate to preserve.
Does Ongsa think that her parents are gonna be upset that she and Aylin are in relationships with girls? Because they really do not seem to be bothered by the idea of Aylin and Luna at all.
Not that I agree with Sun doing it either.
I don't know. Like I said I have to sit on this one for a bit. I might have more to say (terrifying, I know). I might not. But this one will be on my mind for sure.

⭐ and/or director's commentary for Catch and Release?
Thank you!!~
Long ramble ahead... I got carried away
Okay, first of all... I had to do so much research to write this fic. Sometimes I researched things just for a single line, like the flashback in chapter 6 where 11-year-old Olly and her dad realize the actuators are genuine AI:
Ophelia’s eyes fell on the very last line of code, all the way at the bottom of the screen. System.out.formatname(“ISAAC”); A moment later, the code jumped back to life, lines of commands once again flowing down the screen.
I've done a little bit of coding before, both block and text coding, but not anything with Java, so I ended up scrolling through a whole article on how Java formatting works just so I could bullshit a made-up command for a single line in the fic.
Above everything else, I wanted this fic to read as genuinely scientific, since the protagonist herself is a scientist. Most of that was a rampant amount of speculative biology, but it is based for the most part on actual anatomy, biology, chemistry, and engineering. I wanted it to be a little bit more genuine than the usual "superhero logic", and it was actually a fun challenge to come up with scientific-ish explanations for things like the villain cures and what have you.
Another bit of speculative biology here in the fic - Flint Marko. I obviously haven't read all the Spider-Man comics out there, so I don't know if they ever tried to give him a more scientific backstory than just "turned into sand by a particle accelerator", but here was my explanation of it:
“It’s delivered as a concentrated beam of radiation.” Peter answered, “At least, that was the plan. The sand that makes up his body isn’t… well, it’s not actually sand. They’re mutated cells that mimic the physical characteristics of sand. If we hit him with the right kind of radiation, we should be able to trigger a mutation that returns his cells to normal.”
I mean, let's be real, the "right kind of radiation" to "return his cells to normal" is total superhero-y bullshit and I freely acknowledge that, but I was pretty proud of that first bit. I mean... how would he still be alive and conscious if he was really made out of sand? Doesn't it make sense for it to be something that looks like sand and behaves like sand, but still maintains certain living properties like cellular structure?
I think if this were an actual, published novel, I'd probably pull a total Andy Weir and obsessively research every point of speculative science in this piece. As fanfic... I still did more research than I probably needed to, but I gave myself enough grace with the knowledge that my readers are reading this just for fun, and even the ones who might have more knowledge into the hard sciences would give me a bit of leeway in that.
Here's one more section from the first cure-discussion scene, since I was just really proud of that whole part of the fic:
“What if we tried converting Connors’ cure to a gaseous form?” she suggested, tapping the rough sketch she’d drawn, “I don’t think we’ll be able to get a syringe through those scales, but if we could get him to inhale it instead…” “That could work.” Norman agreed, “Though I’d suggest a fine mist rather than a gas.” “Like an asthma inhaler.” Ophelia guessed. “Exactly.” he confirmed, “It wouldn’t require heat, only pressure.”
This one, I didn't do any initial research for, actually! I already knew the basics of how asthma inhalers worked, and the premise of "liquid to gas requires heat, liquid to more finely-distributed liquid does not", so I was actually super pleased for coming up with that on my own. I did later do a little more research into the mechanics of an asthma inhaler for when they actually built the cure, but the initial idea was all mine :)
As an author, my brain actually works very similarly to Ophelia's, which I think helped me a lot in writing this fic. I've had an interest in biology and anatomy since I was a kid (for a while, my favorite book was a children's encyclopedia on the human body), and certain things like the museum she talks about in Chapter 11 are pulled from my own life and experiences (with a little embellishment at times, of course). Also like Olly, I'm always seeking for the most efficient way to solve a problem, and I'm not going to shy away from a little research as needed.
Her perspective is remarkably fun to write! I think in some ways, she's a reflection of who I might've been if I'd tolerated college a little better. I really love learning, but the college climate was just overwhelming and stressful and it wasn't my passion. Now I'm in a career with both scientific and artistic elements, and I really do love the work that I do... and any time I want to tap into my more science-minded side, I can work on my sciencey superhero fics instead lol
____
Psst- for that star, and since I'm so late in getting the fic updated, have a little sneak peek at the next chapter!
He woke up beside her. It was something he’d been imagining for months though, though he’d expected it to follow a very different chain of events. He certainly wasn’t expecting to feel like he’d been shoved into a massive pinball machine, with so much of his body aching that it all just became a fogged-over cloud of aimless pain, but… it was what it was, and he’d take what he had. He couldn’t change the pain, not now, but he could appreciate the rest of this. Olly was still asleep. The bruises under her eyes had faded a bit, though he could hear her breath rasping in her throat as it failed to pass through her broken nose. Her knee was still braced, propped up on a heap of pillows, though still swollen and deeply bruised in a way that made him wince. She’d given up a lot for him, that much was clear. But she was here, right beside him, with her callused fingers wrapped loosely around his own.

So I showed my partner the designs for the planets of your Four Swords space AU! As we all know, he loves sci-fi, thinks your AU is really cool, and he had thoughts he didn't know if you'd be interested in hearing. I suggested sending an ask about it so you could either address it or ignore it as you see fit. I'll let him take over from here :)
———
Hey! Love the concept of the world, the designs of the planets are really awesome! What follows is dependant on what sort of sci-fi you were going for, and I look forward to reading the story regardless, but if you're going for a kinda realistic sci-fi setting, the order of the planets bears some thought - there might be story reasons they're in the order they are in though?
So there's an area around all stars known as the goldilocks zone, which is the area where its close enough to the sun for water to be a liquid, and far enough that its not a gas and the planet can retain an atmosphere. There is some leeway there, based on the size and mass of the star and planets, and other gravitational forces acting, so here are some thoughts below:
Eldin would make sense to be closest to the star, the presence of denser metals is more common in the inner planets, and it'd naturally make the planet much hotter. The larger gravitational forces by the stellar proximity would also give an excuse for lots of tectonic instability, so volcanoes, earthquakes, even magma fields.
Ridgeland could be next, or further out, but hot and fairly arid could place it at the edges of the goldilocks zone either way.
Ordon and Haze could be further out, as twin planets would exert strong gravitational forces of each other, which could help water remain liquid. Also having them further would make Hylia's light dimmer, which seems appropriate for the twilight realm?
The Plains seems most earth-like, so would probably be slap bang in the middle.
The Domain would also have to be pretty firmly in that zone given its relative scale and limited surface ice, if it's a little further in than the Plains that'd likely mean much more atmospheric moisture and strong weather systems, a little further out and there'd be less rain and more ice.
Hebra looks like it'd be a bit further out than Plains too, though not as far, as it does appear to have liquid water, but I'm guessing it's much colder.
Lost Haven looks pretty temperate, but I feel like it might be deliberately distant or remote in some way? There's always ancient technology and planetary climate controls, but another thought could be to have it ad the counter-orbital to Plains, orbiting at the same distance but always on the far side of the sun, so impossible to directly observe. There have been theories of a counter-earth in our own solar system since the Ancient Greeks!
This was maybe a bit all over the place, so putting them all in the order I'd guess:
Eldin, Ridgeland, Domain, Plains (Lost Haven), Hebra, Ordon/Haze!
Hello Kalh's partner! I have heard a lot about you! Mostly that you enjoy sci-fi, honestly, which is evident here. I'm glad you like what I have so far, and I hope you forgive me for my sci-fi sins, as I am a more casual enjoyer. I am, of course, not aiming for any kind of scientific accuracy, but little bits of accuracy can definitely help the world feel more grounded and perhaps even spawn plot points. :D
I have to admit that my first doodle happened during class... So the questions of spacing and position occured to me, but I didn't spend brainpower figuring that out at the time. Now, though, I have arrived home early, and um. Yeah. Anyway.
First off, your suggestions are right on the money. They're exactly what I was halfway thinking, but you put them into actual words that make sense. Eldin is like Mercury, Ridgeland is like Tatooine, the Plains is like Earth, Domain is like Jupiter but if Jupiter were covered in liquid... et cetera. I hadn't thought of Lost Haven being a counter-world for the Plains, but now that you say that, I really like it.
(I was sort of thinking that Lost Haven might have its own mini-star out there, but I was worried about gravity. Stars are... really heavy, and it doesn't make sense to have even a tiny star orbiting like a moon. I like this better.)
Second, I have this idea that is probably entirely ridiculous, but it's also cool, so I'm going with it. The star Hylia is hotter on the top than it is on the bottom, thus turning that livable zone into a cone rather than a ring. Orbits aren't necessarily even, either, so planetary seasons are further exaggerated by that difference. I have yet to do too much thinking about each planet's seasons, ecology, and so forth, though, and I'm not sure how detailed I'll get with it.
I am also very much not sure what the three goddess planet/star things are doing...
These new illustrations are still not to scale, but the planets are positioned much better now!

Alright, y'all, I've been in a mood lately so I'd love to start some more RPs. I play primarily Blaine (I'm willing to do Sebastian but I write him very very soft so be prepared if you want that). I'd like to RP mainly Seblaine but I will also go for a Klaine with a fun plot.
I'd like to rp on discord. For Seblaine, I don't care about the plot or timeline I just like RPing them. For Klaine, I'd like to do some kind of AU or canon divergence but we can talk about it.
I am perpetually busy so I'm not a 5 message a day responder the way I'd like to be. Generally at least once a day if not a little bit more but there are definitely days that I can't be on. So please don't be frustrated. I'm looking for something long-term. Also I'm 31 so please be 23+. I could give a little leeway but it makes me feel better to have somebody closer to my age.
Send me an ask/message and I'll send you my discord or message me on discord if we're already friends on there. I'm also interested in trying again if we've RPed before because I know several have been abandoned by either me or my RP partner as happens. ♥
