tuunbaq - were you frightened by the show? which scene do you find the “scariest”?

I was a bit, yeah. The scariest? I don’t know, I find the actual story pretty frightening to begin with: either the slow death out there or the fruitless waiting at home for any kind of word or news of your loved ones…or even imagine living on or near King William Island at the time with all this going on. Honestly terrifying. I’ve read some wonderfully creepy stories.

But for the show particularly? Strangely enough, I think the beginning was more frightening than the end. Much more suspense— When I started the show I actually knew very little about the Franklin expedition. Almost nothing, in fact. So I had absolutely no idea what kind of ending it would have. I really held out hope for a while that (in the show at least) some of them would make it. (I think I had read somewhere, a while ago, that Fitzjames and Crozier were both possible candidates for ‘Aglooka’, who ‘wandered the frozen wastes of Canada along with three companions for years and years or perhaps all eternity’ or something like that. And that —and the skeletons in the boat— was just about all I knew about the Franklin expedition before watching the show. So I was genuinely surprised and a bit heartbroken when they killed everyone but Crozier off at the end.)

And additionally, I found the tuunbaq much more frightening before I knew what it looked like.

But “scariest” ?

…Maybe that scene when the tuunbaq’s right outside Silna’s door. 

And you can hear its footsteps and you can see its breath move the door flap? I was so worried for her. 

The bit at the beginning when David Young is dying, and the chase scene with Blanky definitely place as well. There’s probably some more good ones that belong here too, but at the moment they escape me.

REALLY enjoyed watching this in the dark by myself. <3 I honestly had a wonderful time

captain - who’s your favourite coldboy?

I really love (or am at least entertained by) all the characters. But my favorite has gotta be Fitzjames. I loved him in the show, but reading his biography and letters from the May We Be Spared To Meet On Earth compilation really solidified that— he’s so funny! I wish they had included a bit more of his whimsy (and general goofiness— where are the pillow fights and silly cartoons? where is the nonsense?) in the show, but it probably would’ve changed the tone significantly, so I understand why they didn’t do that.

Being someone who read Under The Red Hood and came out with the firm belief that, for Jason, it's not about killing Joker, it's about Jason wanting proof Batman would choose him over the Joker (bc shelia chose the joker). Makes seeing any other media where it's all about just wanting the Joker dead is a teeny bit frustrating. to be honest

Jason could've killed the Joker himself, really, really easily. Jason kidnaps the Joker before the confrontation. I can't open my comic for a reference right now, but it felt like he had the Joker for quite a bit before the confrontation. He had him. He beat him up with a crowbar. He had every single opportunity to kill the Joker himself, but he didn't because that wasn't his goal. Make no mistake, he did plan for the Joker to be dead by the end of it, but do you see what im trying to say here

Edit: If I knew this post was gonna get 1000+ notes I would've tried to word it better or something, this was a rant I made on the way to the grocery store 😭

It's not about making Batman kill either. When Batman says he won't kill, Jason adjusts and goes, 'Let ME kill the Joker or kill me to stop me' instead. The test is all about Batman choosing him. The whole final confrontation is Jason's first death again. The parent, The Joker, and the explosives. It even ends with Jason unable to move as a bomb goes off right next to him again because the parent didn't choose Jason. And instead tried finding an option that'd benefit them and (consequencely) letting the Joker walk, again, lol, lmao <-in agony

Columbo and the Knight (1984)

put me in the universe where Columbo ran through the 1980s and had a crossover episode with Knight Rider. I think they deserved it, and I am not just saying that because they're my two favorite Old Shows. @telebeast wrote a little fanfic blurb about it and I HAD to visualize it into a comic (which is also the longest comic I have finished thus far at five pages...), so writing credit goes to them.

I still haven’t been able to pick up a copy of the new PPG comic but you know what? I saw this panel online from it and…

…if this is like a Super Zeroes-esque comic where the girls are envisioning alternate versions of themselves with different destinies and if Blossom wants to be a detective GOD! BLESS! whoever wrote this ‘cause it’s perfect.

Bubbles as a bunny and Buttercup as a wrestler are also both perfect but that goes without saying. 🙏

I draw a sketch to simply offer my own personal little headcanon and theory that Zenos was the only other descendant Emet got close to (knowing him probably unintentionally) besides Lucius.

Obviously we never see them interact directly, but several little worldbuilding tidbits do make me ponder about certain things, like the possibility lorewise that it could've been Emet that named Zenos, and the fact that they share certain habits and potentially interests.

Dan Mora style study

I really struggle drawing Superman/Clark Kent so I thought I’d look at how my favourite artists draw him. This is Dan Mora’s Clark as he appears in Batman/Superman: World’s Finest (2022). I tried two different colouring versions though! The first is the iconic Tamra Bonvillain’s World’s Finest style, and the second is Alejandro Sánchez’s watercolouresque style that accompanies Dan Mora in Shazam! (2023).

Sneakily, the eyes were so horrifyingly difficult to draw accurately. It’s a style almost similar to ones I’m comfortable with but very difficult to get right. I love Tamra Bonvillain’s colour palette—definitely an aspect I’m interested in incorporating in my own art.
