Osomatsu-san's 23rd WEB Kuji 『 So Cute! MATSU Stuffed Pouch♪ 』 ( 2024 )
i'm really excited for this kuji and saw that the website updated to include the prizes, here's what they're gonna be!
A prize : fluffy polyester blanket
B prize : clear pvc multi-pouch
C prize : acrylic stands
D prize : A4 art boards
E prize : mini acrylic figures ( they mention that these can fit into the pouches, which is so perfect )
F prize : sticker set, 3 count
G prize : can badges
last win prize : extra large acrylic stands
purchase bonus ( 01 ) : a postcard for every 5 items purchased
purchase bonus ( 02 ) : neet express shipping box ( based on the 19th web kuji's designs ) if you purchase 20 items or more
moachan prize : acrylic panel
i also want to point out that the " so cute! / 可愛さつめつめ!" from the kuji's title includes the hiragana for tsume, which can mean packing or stuffing. ( i feel like you could also translate it as " cuteness packed! " based on the characters used, but everywhere i tried double checking translated it as so cute so i'll stick with that for now. )

Do you guys notice how when Shawn Fain, president of the United Auto Workers union, started planning a general strike, he did it by a) targeting his messaging towards unions with the ability to safely and effectively strike in large numbers, b) laid out a clear, actionable plan for those unions to follow (setting contracts to all expire at the same time, since many unions cannot strike while under contract), c) is using union contracts to set clear, actionable demands that can be met in order to gauge success and provide an end goal, and d) started organizing FOUR YEARS before the proposed strike date to give people the chance to plan accordingly, because it takes a really freaking long time to get tens of millions of people organized?
You notice how he didn't do it by slapping a message on Twitter saying 'hey nobody go to work on Monday, that'll really show 'em'?

no but it’s so sad how lu guang used to think that even the smallest alteration from the events of original narrative could change everything beyond repair but now he sees time as something almighty, something he’s unable to fight against. i wonder what he could’ve tried to do that lead him to thinking that time is THAT powerful. and how devastating it is to understand that you’re absolutely helpless, that nothing you do means anything, again and again it’s all the same, from “hey newcomer, wanna play basketball with us?” to “save them, lu guang” but he can’t. cheng xiaoshi passes the ball and whatever lu guang does he is destined to miss this time. cheng xiaoshi passes the ball and lu guang only worsens the situation. and still he keeps on trying. because cheng xiaoshi put his trust into him.

It's weird that so many people take Humbert having some traits similar to Nabokov as some kind of damning evidence that Nabokov was definitely an evil child molester like apart from the fact that Nabokov constantly took random details of his life and gave them to characters and Humbert absolutely HAD to share some biographical aspects for the story to work (white, upper class, educated) have you ever considered that maybe its easier to write a reprehensible person that isn't a caricature when other aspects of them are things you are familiar with and can empathise with easily. Almost like real awful people are also complex human beings who are made up of many traits and experiences some of which even you probably share!

"The only person who can save you is yourself, don't rely on anybody else!"
Actually, what has saved me is books and my favourite video game and my cats and my friends who I've shared late nights and too-early mornings with and the dew-covered grass I walked on on the way to a competition bus in ninth grade band and the sunburn that kept me out of school for days the month prior.
I understand the viewpoint of how you are ultimately the person who can save you, but don't discount that you aren't an island. You aren't meant to be your sole savior. Let others save you, too. You are worth the care and love the universe has for you.

"not all men" but not in a men's rights way, in a "it's important to remember that men aren't the only perpetrators of cruelty, abuse, and evil and that subconsciously or consciously training yourself to view men as inherently evil and everyone else as inherently safe inadvertently puts you in a position where you're both vulnerable to attack or harm from people you otherwise wouldn't suspect, AND causes you to limit the number of allies you might have in a time of need" kind of way.
#This is why I worry a lot about young women (teens and twenties) who seek comfort and validation in r//adf//em circles. Many of them have#been hurt through rape or abuse—commonly at the hands of fathers/brothers/uncles or otherwise trusted adults—and have decided that men must#be cruel because both they and their female/female + queer friends have similar stories of abuse. So they seek out others who share this#belief but in doing so they make themselves vulnerable to further abuse and manipulation. I haven't really observed r//adf//em circles long#enough to be able to say what I'm about to say with certainty but I would put money on the idea that being a RF on social media shares the#same hallmarks as being in a cult because the behavior of the adherents is far too similar than that of tradwives or any other modern cult.#Other RF's use the hurt and abuse these young women have experienced and twist and manipulate their truth to foster a sense of#us-against-them cruelty against a population that could in actuality be their fiercest allies. It's such a vicious and relentless cycle.#That's why when I see RF's on here all I feel is pity — both for the cruelty and abuse they've witnessed and suffered but ALSO for the way#they've allowed that abuse to be weaponized against them... many before they were too young to realize it was even happening. We as a#society have got to get better at protecting our young girls and women from r//adf//em ideology. I don't even mean that in a#“destroy the patriarchy” kind of way because that's such a lofty and disorganized goal. I mean it in a “we have to go into uncomfortable#spaces and show these girls love and empathy because right now the only people validating them are people who use their hate and mistrust#against them and if we want to save our young girls and Queer sisters from this pipeline we have to do the dirty work“ kind of way.#But anyway.#jack.txt

my blorbos as animals
I wanna make one of these posts too :3c Disclaimer: these are highly specific hcs applicable to their versions in Fragments.
Vivi's a ferret and a borzoi. Borzoi's more of a general elezen spirit animal that I highly approve of. Somehow simultaneously looks like it has every illness and will crumble from the gentlest breeze of wind, and yet, it possesses a mesmerizing, otherworldly kind of beauty and grace. An aristocrat. A very special kind of a dog that makes you laugh, adore, or feel uneasy just because it's so bizarre. Upon closer inspection, Vivi has the fucked up little guy energy typical to ferrets. He's not that much of a threat, but a lot, a lot of chaos. Permanent wiggle.
Raha, despite ostensibly being a cat, is actually a dog. A husky dog. A fine and valuable specimen, very sociable, can be a friend, can carry people, can win races while carrying people. Full of energy, can't sit in one place. Resilient and sturdy. Smart, competent, but also idiot. Big fuckin idiot. Freaky eyes.
Emet's a rat that's also a cat that's also a bird (shoebill) but, for the sake of picking one thing that I can characterize well, he's a house cat to me. Spoiled, cranky, full of malice, can cause immense chaos and destruction, but in the end will let his owner pick him up and wiggle him. Afterwards, perhaps, he'd pee in the owner's shoe as revenge.
Alisaie's a serval cat. Long but still smol, looks deceptively cute but watch out, this mf is feral. Solitary, graceful, leaps around a lot, an excellent killer.
Feo Ul is a..... crow. A part of a big group but an independent thinker, a faithful companion, will remember you forever - be that for the better or for the worse. Enigmatic mages and other dark and edgy fantasy figures are often seen with a crow. Associated with death (if you interpret the WoD as Death in the First, this makes sense). Incredibly smart, even more mischievous, lives to have fun. Their voice isn't to everyone's liking. A group of crows is called murder.

to say people withholding their vote in America aren't 'pragmatic' enough is so dismissive. as a fellow European like idk what I would've done either if I was an American.
Otherwise I would be sorry to be dismissive but in this situation I think it is completely acceptable, if not necessary, to vote for the lesser evil. Voting is not about your inner true values, it is about society, and especially in the American setting where you essentially have only two options, you need to be able to make hard decisions. If you're seriously indicating that on the whole Harris is bad as Trump, you need to take a cold hard look at the reality of the matters at hand. Harris is not ideal, and it hurts to vote for her especially when you think about Gaza, but Trump is a fascist and his supporters in the Republican party are dangerous to democracy and human rights. This is not a situation where you get to opt out. Not voting is a vote for Trump.

if you are downloading online resources
please be mindful of the following:
-organize your shit. name pdfs descriptively, and categorize them by subject or whatever works best for you. you don't want to look through your files a year from now and have to trawl through an unsorted mess of files with strings of numbers for names.
-if you're able, make multiple backups in multiple places of things you don't want to lose. this is a huge issue in digital archiving because drives can fail and get corrupted with time, even when you take the best possible care of them. this usually takes place over a long-ish period of time, but you're better safe than sorry. keep a copy on your computer and on a flash/external drive at least. flash drives are pretty cheap and can have capacity anywhere from 2-64 gb generally, plenty of space for pdfs, text, and html files.

Now having watched Frankenstein (1931) I find this really interesting. I didn't really expect the writers themselves to have watched the film; I assumed they saw it was a horror film released in Pete's time and included it with the bonus that the audience would know the story because its Frankenstein. It really aligns with the themes of spider noir though, so I'm second guessing myself.
I read Frankenstein a while back so I'm not as familiar with it as I once was, but I'd say its generous to say the movie is based off of the original novel. It hits some of the points but it really is different. I mean, in the film its Henry Frankenstein, not even Victor.
In the film, the monster is played almost-infantile. He reaches out towards light as if he could grab it. He plays with a little girl by a lake, throwing in flowers to watch them float like boats. When he kills her, it's an accident. How could he have known that she wouldn't float along with the flowers? Its Frankenstein and his assistant who are portrayed as monstrous. They lock him in the dark for three days. The intimidate him with fire and whips and fists.
Despite this, its Frankenstein who gets the 'good end,' while the monster is left to burn alive, pinned inside a wooden mill set alight by the townspeople.
Pete could have gotten nightmares from a number of scenes. Although I wouldn't personally say this is a scary film, there are definitely unnerving parts. There was also a different standard in 1931 for what was scary in film, plus Pete was already living a hard life at such a young age when he saw it.
Based on the panels themselves it is clear that Pete was scared of the monster itself (which is fair, the make up and costuming wanted him to be frightening). "I expected him to tell me there's no such thing as monsters," because no one in real life is a resurrected, looming... once-man-now-creature. (Just you wait, Peter). It's a more juvenile read of the film but Pete is a kid. Ben though, is a veteran, a socialist, has been around the block. He has the sense to analyze the film and interpret it differently. It is the men who find themselves with a capacity for senseless cruelty that are the monsters. That is exactly what the noir comics are about.
I really like that it's clear that Uncle Ben knows what Peter is about to learn. It also shows how much Pete has changed, just within the 1-2 years since he'd seen Frankenstein.

snippets! more snippets! snippets for days!
“So, first major event was Halloween. Somehow, a troll got loose in the school, intent on causing mischief and mayhem.
“A troll?” Sirius paled. “Please tell me that’s a—a euphemism for something.”
“Siri, ew, oh my god,” Harry gagged, turning his face away from his unrepentant godfather and his ‘it’s still better than an honest-to-Merlin troll, Harry James’
“Suddenly, I’m very glad that there troll was not a—was just a troll. It was during the Halloween feast—“
“I do wonder about that day, you know. It feels so cursed.”
“You have no idea,” Harry muttered bitterly before continuing. “Anyway, so, it was the middle of the feast, Quirrell comes to warn us about the mountain troll in the dungeons before doing a dramatic faint right there, in front of everyone, and Dumbledore sends us all off to our dormitories.”
There’s a beat of silence before—
“The dormitories?”
Harry looked up to see Sirius staring at him, aghast. A small smile tilted his lips on one end. “Mhm.”
His godfather takes a deep breath. “Let me get this straight. You have a mountain troll in your school, which is supposed to be warded to high heaven and back, and your Headmaster tells you to wander through the hallways, where said troll could be lurking, to get to your dormitories??”
Harry nodded. “Yes.”
“What about the damn Slytherins? Their dorms are literally in the dungeons. They might be annoying but they don’t deserve to be killed by a thirty feet tall idiot with bad breath.”
“You know,” Harry mused, head tilting in thought, “you might just be the first, and only, adult to consider that. I’m not sure it ever even hit me until now.”
“What.”
“No one cares about the Slytherins, Sirius.”
“What—“
“I mean, I’m not saying they shouldn’t, just that they don’t. Don’t look at me like that, c’mon.”
“Harry, I have no idea what’s going on right now. It feels like I went on a weekend bender and never woke up, you’re literally two minutes in and there’s a mountain troll, a weird professor, a latently homicidal Headmaster, and still no Voldemort. How do I even react to this?” Sirius’ hands moved around frantically as he spoke, getting daste and more erratic with each word.
