fav zk moment?

the crossroads of destiny finale will always be my favorite zk moment. always. tsr comes in close in second but there’s something about the s2 finale that still gags me because it didn’t HAVE to happen. we didn’t need to see zuko bonding with katara over their mothers, over losing their mothers because they died protecting them. we didn’t need to see katara offer to heal his scar. we didn’t need to see her caress his face while she stares at his face (and they also lean towards each other when aang and iroh disturb their moment). we didn’t need them standing nearly identically to oma and shu in the cave, two enemies coming together in commonality. we didn’t need the “when i saw the face of the enemy i saw your face”, “my face?”, “no, that’s not what i meant.” this moment was purely dedicated to showing something between them as *characters*. and zuko trying to remedy his mistake with katara that day also showed how much he cared about her. i would argue a lot of katara and zuko’s scenes weren’t put there to serve a necessary “narrative” purpose as much as it was to show how they feel about each other. this doesn’t mean their scenes don’t carry weight, of course not, but it showed that while a lot of other scenes in the show happened because we needed to move the plot forward, a lot of zk scenes were about *each other* and i love that.
