i love how real project sekai feels

like yeah nothing about hatsune miku giving therapy to kids through a pocket dimension is realistic but like. everything that happens in the stories is just. ough.

like normally i dont like slice of life stuff that much but something about reading the stories and being able to just relate so easily to them (correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure i heard prsk is kinda geared towards younger audiences/teens so it makes sense) in a way that a lot of media doesnt do for me just hits really hard. especially when they get into the really shitty stuff about being a teenager which they just do it so well. like even if they have to censor some stuff (like wording what is essentially mafuyus suicide attempt as "disappearing") they really dont hold back or water it down to "dont kill yourself youre our friend :(" and mafuyu going "ok yeah ur right im fixed", its just like. it feels good to have a game that doesnt just show highschool through some super happy lense and actually shows what being a teen is like, at least in my experience

Ahaa.ha I feel like you know the answer,, but I also don't feel like I can say what I think with much authority because I havent been able to get myself to read anything past lutf, some people said it got better with oyf but the hater in my heart doesn't want to believe that. I will suck it up and see the rest of their arc to end myself.. one day....

(Maybe this is tmi) but as someone who has had the devastating experience of being lied to about a beloved relatives terminal cancer, that plot point hit wayy too fuckin close to home for me to distance myself from it and view it as its own story. I know in my brain its just characters and everyone processes shit differently, but I think the conclusion of lutf was so bad and so out of line with how I perceived the situation, that it just. couldn't be fixed beyond that point, for me.

I know vbs are your babies and I do love them, just not in their source material. I don't mean to bring down people who do like their stories, I just have so many problems with the writing even outside of lutf that the ending of lutf sorta nailed the coffin on enjoying their canon for me personally

Is it necessarily bad writing? I guess not considering the genre and medium limitations? But it also felt lazy and unsatisfying after such a dramatic buildup. It sucks cause radders story is done SO WELL it felt like the devs just wanted to use vbs as a means to write their story instead of investing that same level of story writing into,, you know, their actual playable and marketable characters??????

I was a killer rock band gamer as a kid, that and wii sports resort were the only games I wanted to play FOR. YEARS. I have rock band to blame for my taste in 90s and 00s punk rock now.

What led me to prsk was bandori tho. I was tired of waiting on endori's bs scheduling because I wanted to tier pasupares Title Idol event, I saw some nijisanji en girlies promoting colorful stage and had seen tokishun tweeting about it so I thought hey, why not. Worst decision of my life probably 🫶

hey it’s the writing anon from a while ago ^_^ read your thread on akito and kashika and i’d like to say THANK YOU for recognizing that kashika doesn’t have to be read so literally when looking at akito as a character 😭

it is genuinely a little jarring to see people go “oh he canonically wants to die hahaha” and leave it at that when he’s really been on a path of healthy growth for a while as of burn my soul … please!! he’s found a way out of the mindset of survival and desperation, he’s grown to love what he’s doing without so much of the fear of being left behind and his storied “future” is more within his grasp than ever, because he’s let his partners in and is more willing to lean on them, growing alongside them

i’m not saying we should disregard what he’s gone through in the past but i’ve also noticed it’s a bit of a trend within people interpreting akito to attribute his past actions to his current self— like i STILL see people bring his actions in main story and use that as their baseline for how he is as a character when it’s…. just not that true anymore. yes he’s kind of an asshole but he’s also learned that he has a place within vbs and that he loves his groupmates and they love him :(

yes it really seems like a good chunk of the prsk fandom struggles with like... acknowledging character development. i'm not entirely sure what it is, but it's insane to see how many people treat these characters like they're static figures. it's one thing to revisit past events and explore avenues colopale didn't take, and build upon the things they neglected (or just re-build entirely where they fucked up). it's another to look at everything akito is doing Now and respond to it with "he's about to overwork himself and go into another long spiral isn't he. oh look he got a line in beyond the way with the word 'die' in it he must still be suicidal and struggling with his inferiority complex oh no 😱" LIKE

akito has come so, so, SO far. his development means the world to me !!!! it has been so amazing to see this scared, self-conscious, bitter, traumatized kid grow into someone who is Confident and Passionate and Excited and Bright. he's grown!! he's learned!! we see him reaffirm multiple times in other events that he's not going to go down the same path he did in SBD - other characters will see him still practicing or about to go for a run or whatever and check in on him and he always tells them he knows better now. because he does! he's not just saying that !!!!

it took him some time to adjust, but he knows vivid bad squad has his back. kotaro has his back. ken-san has his back. ena has his back. hell even arata and tsukasa fucking tenma have his back. he knows he has a support system now ! these are people who want him by their side, and no they're not going to leave him when he stumbles and falls behind; they'll simply pull him back up and they'll just keep moving forward. Together.

and citing kashika as confirmation that he's (still) suicidal is crazy because that's not what the song is about? it's about him reflecting on his past and all the shitty things he went through that caused him to develop that bitter inferiority complex he struggled with for so long. and how he's starting to feel ready to move on from it all. even from haruryo's perspective, in which all the lines about wanting to die are literal, kashika is still a very, very, very positive song !! it's still about moving forward and allowing your love of music (or [insert personal Love of choice here]) to help you through dark times. it's not a song about wanting to kill yourself; it's a song about wanting to live.

idk this all is just super important to me because i am all about stories about growth and healing and recovery. and it's frustrating to glance at the prsk fandom and see people squandering these beautiful stories for... i don't even know what or why 😭

Yea, my intro to the 'genre' overall was the first idolmas anime, and i've seen my share of anime spinoffs. largely enjoyable! things with multimedia can explore a greater range of stories, which is always fun IMO. would love to see a prsk anime sometime. puchiseka is a fun time, but gimme more.

An really reminds me of another character, Hime from Yozakura Quartet. As you say, they so embody their home's love because of how much they were given it, and so share it with others, and it's really just Nice that characters have someone like that in their corner.

Mm, I don't think kids would be that 'low' yet, if that makes sense--to lose you must first have, and I'd say the lowest times for them were when they were separated; we've seen how much Saki was hurting being away from them all--i imagine the start may have been as simple as 'hey the teacher put us together'.

but certainly, them standing by each other with their distinct tastes when they were little bound them up together. we've seen how ichika came off as very cool to the others when she was younger, jumping in to help even if she didn't quite have a plan, and her love for miku was already notable then. we know how the others admired shiho's focus on bands and her choices to always do things her way, even as others found it odd. and there's no real questions about why they loved honami and saki. what some kids may find strange, others admire, and you don't get a bond as strong as leo/need (and one so devastating to lose) without standing through some rough weather together, so to speak.

Sorry if this turns into a bit of a rant but, this answer really made me think. Is that weird?

I think of all the vocoloids, I probably always said meiko or luka held my favour (only if gumi wasn’t an option, prsk made me love her more if anything). But it kind of occurred to me that I usually end up doodling miku over anyone else. In the corners of my notebooks, filling pages of sketchbooks, and messing up university hand outs and prints. There is a teal, blue-green girl with twin tails and a smile, cheering me on.

Comforting me. I didn’t get much comfort as a kid, but Miku was definitely the one I listened to most when I needed that comfort. So this answer, after I thought a lot, it made me weirdly nostalgic, melancholic and happy all at once.

Maybe I’ll make my own sekai.

1. my little pony and invader zim are like, the only shows i regularly watched when i was a kid. never been much of a tv person

4. !!!! first off give that man his melanin. he is brown!!!! i'd have to draw him (hyv designs are intimidating i've been Afraid to draw any of these guys LOL) and mess with the colors so they don't blend together too much / clash but i think his hair is less Blonde and more of a blonde-leaning light brown. also it's curly :)

he has a lot of scars, but almost all of them are covered by his clothes, gloves, and his heavy watches and bracelets. i think it'd be cute if he had freckles... not very many. a few splashed on his cheeks (he hides them with foundation... you can only see them if you catch him right after waking up, or after a Very long day and his makeup has started smudging) and some here and there across the rest of his body. and this isn't exactly appearance related but i wanna say that all the jewelry he wears minus his watch is stuff he made himself ^^

5. oh i don't even know. like, i have no idea what to Begin to expect from something like this? i generally don't tune into prsk lives... this will be the first one i'll be sitting down to watch from start to finish, so. ...GDNSIJDFHFIDBNDIFUNDFIOMGDIFM yeah i think it's common knowledge that i hate tsukasa's voice. i mean TO BE FAIR a lot of that hate comes from the fact that his voice is not well-suited to 80% of the music wxs ends up performing. he actually sounds great in rock songs (journey, ego rock..) and like... swanky, rock-leaning jazz songs like mr. showtime. but that's not the kind of music wxs usually ends up doing. so he's last place.

19. emu

i promise emu would be higher but they don't take advantage of her range as much as they used to. they keep delegating her to that really high-pitched cutesy tone and almost never touch her lower range... so :(

18. minori

this sucks because putting her this low makes it seem like i don't like her voice but that's not the case at all akgjdsbkjdfnbvkjfn like from this point on we're out of the "i kind of genuinely Dislike this character's singing and hearing them can sometimes ruin an entire song for me depending on how bad the vocal direction is" territory! that being said, i guess out of all the voices i Do like minori probably has to be my least favorite...? i definitely find her a lot less grating than emu, but i also might just prefer mmj's music a whole lot more than wxs's. she always sounds super sweet though <3

17. saki

saki's got a really interesting voice 🤔 it's powerful and kind of... off-tune a lot of the time - kinda like her brother! this isn't something most people are ready to talk about like she IS missing notes. teratera is my least favorite l/n comm for this reason... not to say i Dislike it, but i'd rather listen to stella or something. and her teo cover is just a complete miss. but what sets her apart from tsukasa is that it? strangely?? really suits leo/need's general style of music

16. kanade

i like kanade's voice a lot! i don't necessarily like how... whispery?? she gets sometimes. like girl are you singing or just breathing into the mic

15. nene

nene's voice is very nice :) very... lullaby-esque? i adore her kami no manimani solo it's wonderful. but i think it's generally not my taste? exactly? i tend to like more powerful vocals

i really like airi's voice too!! it's super spunky and cute (just like her!!!) and she's got some killer range. however she loses points for the patchwork staccato cover that thing is my archnemesis i hate it so bad. mmj's only flop

love rui's voice. very velvety and rich. however funnily enough i think he's kind of... weak in most of the rock/rock-based songs wxs has put out. tsukasa's the only one in wxs that can really pull that genre off he was BUILT for it. meanwhile rui was built for the theatrical ~magical~ music wxs is more known for

i love an's voice!!!!! it's very powerful. and very unique! however. she struggles to control it. which i think may be purposeful. like, none of these kids are supposed to sound professional, and what i've always loved about prsk's music is the fact that you can hear them all improving over time!! (this can also be attributed to the seiyuus becoming more comfortable with their roles but whatever. it adds a nice touch regardless)

and in an's case, it's likely supposed to be a reflection of how even though she has a "natural talent" for singing, she hasn't been given all the resources she needs to properly develop her voice. but purposeful or not it doesn't change the fact that i do sometimes wince when she hits/carries a note weirdly

11. akito

similarly to an, very powerful but lacks control. technically, his voice control is worse than an's but sorry i'm biased he's my favorite character. anyway. he's canonically supposed to be the weakest singer in vbs, so i guess i get more emotional when i hear him improve..? like. he's fighting soooooo hard for this. this skill he wasn't born with. the universe wanted him to be an artist and a soccer player, but he just loves music so damn much. this is what he wants his life to be - fuck what he's "naturally" talented in. fuck natural talent. (the shinonome siblings' themes of rejecting the concept of Natural Talent and Easy Success despite what their dad has told them over and over and over again makes me wanna cry.)

ena's voice is gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! she packs in SO much emotion every time she sings, but she kind of struggles with higher notes? which is funny because akito really excels with those LMFAO

mafuyu's voice. it's absolutely fascinating to me - when he's singing with full emotion and doesn't sound dead and half-asleep. which, yeah i know, the monotone singing is purposeful because of his whole... everything. doesn't change the fact that i find it boring... BUT! he's been bumped up several spots because the monotone singing is becoming less and less common!! which makes me so fucking emotional because 🥹 oh my god he's getting better... he's finding himself again and all his lost emotions.. oh ymgod... 🥹����

toya's got a STELLAR set of pipes on him. and it's disappointing because he's usually just... vbs's support singer? so he ends up in the background of a lot of their songs :( but when he gets a chance to belt his heart out.. oh man. ohhh man

AUHGHHHHHH HARUKA... GOD her voice is DROP DEAD GORGEOUS. it's absolutely beautiful. it's so powerful but like... gentle. and loving. kind of like her! i always get so confused when i see people ranking the kiddos' voices and they stick haruka in a low spot like... ??

ichika... my daughter who is such a boy if a boy was like a girl but not at all. i love her voice to pieces it was what drew me into prsk in the first place!! it's so clear and pretty. sparkly. you can just hear her smiling as she sings like it's obvious she's having the time of her life (or. well her seiyuu is. but whatever)

i will always prefer the vocaloid version of this song like *luna's tuning is unmatched. but ichika's solo is quite lovely... the range between her low and high notes.. the power and emotion in the chorus......... yeah this is really good too

4. mizuki

it's mizuki. what do you want me to say she's perfect. i LOOOOOOOOVE her voice so much like. goddamn!!!!! she can go from this

she literally has the voice of an angel. i wasn't always the biggest fan of her voice but it grew on me very quickly. and i mean. i still haven't recovered from her solo from kick it up a notch! ..... the first time i heard it i fell dead on the floor /srs

this will start playing at the part that makes me want to SOB every. single. fucking time i hear it. but i cannot stress how beautiful this whole song is i really recommend listening to the whole thing. kohane is so cool, man

she also has the voice of an angel oh my god.... like. gorgeous. beautiful. stunning. perfect in every way. my only complaint is i wish she got to sing more often... gotta love leo/need's line distribution, amirite. anyway she's got the same breathy quality kanade does, but she has a hell of a lot more power behind her voice. it's just... one of the loveliest sounds i have ever heard

this should have been a honami solo from the very start. i've said it before but she perfectly captured the subtle melancholic feel that the original song had. ichika made it sound wayyyyyyyyy too peppy :/
