The difference between “rich” and “well off” is so skewed in our minds today. It leads to people hitting really good life milestones and then being made to feel guilty for making it because “oh you must be RICH (/disparaging).” And it’s terrible because it isolates us even more. We don’t feel comfortable sharing cool achievements with people for fear our desire to share our joy with friends will be met with cutting suggestions about bragging and privilege. And that can lead to sending the message that you aren’t a safe person to share good news with, further isolating you from seeing joy in others’ lives.

Here’s how I differentiate these terms, in case it helps:

- Being rich means you have such an excess of money that you can be frivolous with it. You can buy almost anything that catches your eye without worrying over how much you have left in the bank for essential needs. For example, buying a yacht outright.

- Being well off means you have a steady source of income and, through good money management and saving, are able to afford certain things that might be out of reach of someone who is not well off. For example, buying a house with a mortgage, or a new car. You may have enough extra money to buy yourself treats, but you aren’t going to be jetting to a gala anytime soon.

I’m not advocating for hating everyone who qualifies as rich, btw; some rich people are kind and generous and have good economic sense. But please, let’s stop biting at people who are blessed to be well off enough to reach milestones that we all want to (and hope to someday) reach. It’s discouraging, alienating, and unloving. Let’s allow each other and ourselves to feel the joy of sharing good news and life updates! :)

Also can I just say, the fact that core refresh and monster fest hit shelves around the same time is a TRAVESTY of logistical planning on Mattel's part. I know CR clawdeen and drac trickled out a bit earlier than the rest, but even still that's TEN high production value dolls all hitting the shelves within a few months of each other. So few people can afford to buy all of those! And even if they can afford it, consumption has diminishing returns. It's practically begging people to get burned out and stop caring. Which is tragic, because I think these lines are fucking awesome!

It's not just monster high honestly, it's symptomatic of the entire Overconsumption Culture we have going on right now. And it makes me sad.

Two weeks with Aurora! Here's a recap of life so far.

Our targeted socialization was pretty successful, we managed a bunch of different experiences and she rocked them.

Monday: Busy street at rush hour

Tuesday: Train station

Wednesday: Construction site

Thursday: Bike path next to train line

Friday: Outside a coffee shop

Saturday: Baby hike in the wild

She's still doing great in overall good citizen behaviours. She has specifically been crushing:

✅ Sleeping through the night

✅ Name recognition

✅ Basic training skills

✅ Recovering from being startled

✅ Being crated quietly

Honestly she's doing amazing, I am so so proud of her. 💜

Areas for improvement for the week include:

✴ Bullying Pike (which is improving but still not great)

✴ Demand barking and overall noise level

✴ Chewing on the couch in excitment

Our biggest victories this week include:

🎉 Baby hike 2.0 with beautiful ranging, reasonable baby recall, and great enthusiasm

living in the american west gives you a very strange perspective on space in comparison with europe. i was reading about monaco and then broke my brain realizing that my family's farm is much larger than the footprint of the entire principality. what am i supposed to do with that information. i don't know. in one area of the world, someone managing this much land makes them a prince. here it deeply and truly does not. just very strange

re: buying datv - yeah I think it's better to wait for a bigger discount, especially for AAA games. I got the latest Star Wars game during the winter sale for a pretty good price, it normally costs 70 bucks but I got it for like 15 and that game is only a year old. I sometimes wait out multiple sales/discounts to see if they go lower and usually by that time the games are (mostly) fixed and run better. patience pays out for AAA games

yeah i always wait unless its a game i absolutely cant live without and its not getting cracked any time soon.. like elden ring. paid full price for elden ring and i don't regret it at all. but its not something i do often...in fact elden ring is the only triple a game ive gotten at release full price in so long i can't even remember the last one........ probably back when i was playing on playstation.............

but yeah i wait. i wait for a huge sale or i wait for a key reseller to have it at a decent price. some games i just perma pirate and never buy cuz i don't think they're worth it for whatever reason (don't wanna give money to the devs and theres no keys for it online being sold as an example)

wait this is myyyy third? betta that was just given to me bc it sucks and is ugly. As an adult, I've never paid money for a betta fish. Tbf I didn't pay for the ones my parents kept when I was like 4-5 but those were still formative creatures in my life and I assume they were paid for.
