Helpful (but Aggressive) Guide to the new Hogwarts Legacy PC Mod Update✨

I have been seeing NOTHING BUT COMPLAINING about this damn update and no one actually trying to help each other. So I'm going to do my damn best here to give you a little intro into this new update. Because instead of leaning into the standard toxic consumerism bullshit of fandom, why don't we actually try to be nice to each other?? And the fucking modders who put all this time and effort into making this for us?!?!!?!?!? Special thanks to @anomalyaly because we were up last night trying to figure this out LOL. PART ONE: Why is my game crashing?

You need to delete your old Nexus ~mod folder from the game files. Throw it in the trash, cut and past it somewhere in your documents, idc. Just get it out of there. The pathway to find it is:

2. Steam senses your bad attitude and don't like it idk. I'm not IT. Turn it off and back on again.

NOTE: Once you start up the game and get it working, you can bring back compatible mods from Nexus. You just need to create a new folder to put them in. It can't be the original one. If your game crashes after that, then you have an incompatible mod in there. You'll have to go down the list until you narrow down which one it is - typically will be a face mod, hair mod, jewelry, or a mod that already exists in the new mod store thing. Yeet it.

PART TWO: I'm not going to teach you how to add the new in-game mods and start the game. I'm not your mom. It's pretty intuitive honestly.

PART THREE: Where the fuck are the clothing mods I just added????

An excellent question, my new charge. You need to go to GladRags to get them. You're going to have to long rest at least three days for them to show up in his store. For me, it took five times lol. This part sucks. RIGHT NOW as of 1/31/2025, you have to be in the main character design screen at the beginning of the damn game. BUT BUT BUT - if you mod back in the BP character editor, you can do it anywhere. My hope is a new mod will replace this so the game works more smoothly.

Those white spaces? They're the new in-game mods for hair and makeup. Well, most of them. I think some are just random blank spaces lol.

Part Six: Where are my unlocked spells and unlimited plants and shit?

Two reasons they're not showing up:

If you just added this mod and you load your game in the middle of the mission, you need to finish the mission first.

You probably have something incompatible (a nexus mod) that isn't playing nice. Yeet it.

Before I reinstalled the nexus mods, the game was running so smoothly and the graphics were beautiful. I loaded in 20 mods all at once, and the game handled them just fine. After reloading the nexus mods it was a bit clunky, but of course it would be.

I know change is scary. Also for those who spent time creating/commissioning mods that are no longer compatible, they have the biggest right to be freaking out. BUT BUT BUT we all fucking know the old mods AND SO MANY MORE will be back soon. People are working their asses off in the background converting things right now.

I want to put some things into perspective for you:

We have not had a real update in two years (no, photo mode doesn't count). This is literally the best kind of update we could ever ask for. We are not dependent on the devs for updates with this. In the launch event they were speaking as if you can create your own quests; there are audio mods....think about it guys. Endless protentional. (The only things that aren't going to make it are if you have weird ass like engorgio penis mods because there's no way they're approving those for public use hahahaha)

tetro back it again making me cry way too early in the morning alright lets talk about the things on my mind after this weeks episodes

first of all, (princess) Monomoko. goodness. i have really enjoyed seeing her become more and more sympathetic and aware, building her own consciousness. that really worries me about her, in the event that something could happen to her. the fact that she told seki that she cant justify the killing game anymore, and seki doesn’t really say anything about he feels. i wonder if he feels the same way. also from corrective approach, it seems like seki turned her in, but honestly is it just me or does it seem like something where kan found out on his own n seki wasn’t able to do anything about it? i mean obviously he’s still choosing to do nothing, but like i feel like it would be weird that he told on her yk? or am i just losing my mind.

ojima. oh my goodness ojima, I did not expect a lore dump, but wow. hayashi telling him that talking about it could be his chance to be strong,,, and he actually starts speaking. i really loved that hayashi was the one he told, especially considering their similarities. ojima throughout the ep was hugely impressed that she survived the year of being kidnapped and locked away, and thinking he himself as incapable of being that strong, but hayashi saying that she’s not stronger, she’s just had more practice was a key thing. ojima took that first step of saying something all those years ago, and when the people around him (his father not his brothers) blamed him of lying, he didn’t feel like he had the people to support him that he needed, thus backing away. ojima opening up again after that (and about something he’s avoided for most of his life) is HUGE. now, as he tells hayashi what happened to him, she can be part of that support system for him.

hayashi has gone through so much too. i think her story really highlights the importance of having people around you. her parents were still searching for her, and once she was actually able to escape, she had her parents back. the whole kidnapping was incredibly fucked, it’s amazing that she made it. she’s so strong and i love her, she really has stepped up to giving the rest of the cast support, just like she was by her parents.

on another note MY PARENTS [hayashigeki] ARE NO LONGER ON THE PATH TO DIVORCE!!! the fact that yanagi was so distraught and worried about restricting hayashi and being controlling just like his father, only to find out hayashi was mad at him for putting himself in danger... I really liked communication attempt, I'm so glad they actually talked. yanagi talking about long term plans though worries me..... king pls.....

speaking of long term plans, this is what got me bawling again, in refulgence post mortem. kamimura kazutoshi, the guy literally trying to kill himself just before the killing game (which I still wonder what this means for how they got the participants into the game,,, did they have to like resuscitate him??) , was thinking about going back to school to pursue his dream. he wanted to reconnect with his aunt. hasegawa saying he was proud of him really got me. kamimura had found something he wanted to do, something to strive for in the future. and then he was taken away. hasegawa's distain for okazaki is clear in this episode. they way that hasegawa talked about kamimura was full of love, both when he talked about the little things that were negative about kamimura, like how he was easily annoyed, and when he talked about how funny and kind he was. i think it’s really interesting too how Hama was asking hasegawa, someone the rest of the group knows even LESS, about kamimura. it feels like when two mutual friends talk about someone they knew and get closer through that. i really hope this marks hasegawa beginning to reach out more. (OH YEAH ALSO HASEGAWA CLEANING KAMIMURAS BODY AND THE SCENE,,,, WHAT IF I CRIED.) this episode was also something that really hit how isolated the two were from the rest of the group; we all knew this about kamimura, but hama was hearing a lot of this for the first time.

i really loved hama in this weeks episodes too. teacher hama made me so happy I cant believe we had five minutes of hama yapping about yokai that was AWESOME. wama nation rise this week was peak.... the way he responds to wada in extra credit is so fucking sweet, and him reading chibas story (AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH) to help wada fall asleep was so fucking adorable I lost it. hama is truly someone with so much love to give.

wada this week has clearly been going through a lot. I think definitely in chapter 4, he's starting to grow a bit more confidence and strength to move forward, but shit is hard. it makes sense for wada to backpedal a bit. i knew a lot of what happened cause of wada.exe but damn was it so painful hearing it VOICED. shout out to literallt every single tetro VA, i think their work has absolutely enhanced the story so beautifully. wada has so much to deal with and his past will always be with him. “it can't be trauma because that means it won't go away”, was a really striking line. i really loved all the lines in these episodes, they held so much power.

oh yanagi, you sweet son of a bitch. I'm so worried for his survival chances this chapter, he's been serving everyone. he treated Monomoko to the princess experience despite everything. he helped wada talk about his issues with food and set out to help him do something about it, just like how he did with his sister. he kept trying until finally having the opportunity to talk to hayashi. yanagi is someone who knows where he comes from, but has made huge strides and constant effort to not be like his father.

and finally, speaking of families. watari. oh my goodness, I love watari so much. her interview was amazing, it was such a rollercoaster (girlie is the number one wama n hasemura fan lmfaoo), but I really enjoyed the whole thing. i had a suspicion that she really just longed to be a teenager without responsibilities when I read her secret files, but damn. i think the wish for her mom to be more involved is something so sad but so real. tons of kids have to end up taking care of their siblings like how watari has to, and it’s a lot on someone who’s still growing themselves. i didn’t make that connection to why she loved having fun with okazaki until this interview, and wow. Firefox nation how we feeling (im going to explode UAHSHDJEJEJE). this killing game, ironically, gave her the opportunity to be free, just for a bit. i also find her instinct to say she wants to be an only child interesting, as I think it’s instinct to blame the immediate people around you for a problem that is more (likely?) systematic. but in reality all she wants is her mom to do things for her, like a mother should.

I think this is the first proper time watari has acknowledged how she’s been feeling about Okazaki (Y’all are cruel with these questions LMAO). okazaki was someone she could have fun with, to enjoy herself with. okazaki let her be who she wished she could’ve been, and she wanted her. if Okazaki hadn’t killed like she did, maybe things would be different. clearly, under all her hatred and anger towards Okazaki for the fucked up things she did, she loved her. she misses her. she still wants to be foxes with her, in another life, where they can start over and have a clean slate. she wants to spend life with the one who let her be the carefree teenager she wanted to be. she wants her. don’t mind me bawling my eyes out!

overall, I've really loved the themes of support from tetro recently. I think it's been a common reminder coming through that people need others to keep going. support is a powerful thing, and when so many of the cast of tetro have been alone in some aspect during their life, finding the people to help them through it to move on through their life is an incredibly powerful thing.

And not even a cool dad version a very very cringe dad fit, his brothers are too embarrassed to go out with him wearing dad clothes most of the time

Pretty sure it’s canon that he wears khakis and hawaiian printed shirts

Basically no sense of fashion which shouldn’t be surprising given who he is

If it's not that then it's a cosplay or some very very heavily anime coded fit whether that's the print or how a character dresses

The only way to get him to wear normal average clothes is to tell him (and show evidence sometimes) that it's an anime fit lol

If he realllllly has to then he can dress properly and really good

Also has the ability to pull out a good fit from anything though you barley ever properly see it since he's often covered with a blanket or in some weird way that you can't see the fit properly

It's rare to see him actually care what he puts on but even even when he does you can be sure it's the most comfortable material that you've ever felt that now you're feeling kinda sleepy- (HEY HE SET US UP FOR A NAP DIDN'T HE!!!)

Homemade Dynamite is my Roman Empire. I’m curious if you actually like itadei as a ship or if you just enjoy the challenge of writing a rare ship👍

Your "Roman Empire"??? what... does that mean....

I do like ItaDei quite a bit! Deidara being obsessed with Itachi is canon, and I think letting Itachi take an interest in Deidara can lead to some really fun dynamics. I tend to like ships where they have insane interpersonal chemistry but it takes a lot of work to get them to admit they like each other, and Itachi and Deidara are both favorite characters of mine, so it's one of my top ships. Once you realize that, I think it's pretty obvious in how I write them even in non-shippy fics. E.g., in my Karin and cats fic, there's a scene where Itachi picks up and starts petting cat!Deidara. It's played like Itachi just likes cats and doesn't care about annoying Deidara, but once you know.....

I will admit that I do sometimes write things I'm not interested in just as a challenge to see if I can figure out how to make a character or ship interesting to me. Sometimes this is just like a fun exercise and I'm still neutral about the characters involved (like my Gaara/Sai fic), but sometimes I do trick myself into liking something (Caution to the Wind did something insane to my brain and gave me a fixation on Minato). However, when writing Homemade Dynamite, I already really liked ItaDei, but was frustrated by the scarcity of content that scratches my particular itch.

I also thought HD would be like 40-50k. I messed up. :(

Do you think because of Y/N helping him like grow as a person, do you think this groan version of him would take an interest in Megumi after Toji dies? I don’t think he’d be necessarily try to take care of Megumi full time but I could see him being invested in his care. I feel like Naoya wouldn’t have let Megumi go into his teen years not knowing much about his father lol

This was nice to write, it's like a nothing goes terribly wrong AU. One can certainly dream.

I’m going to be honest with you, I do not think Naoya would care much about Megumi initially outside of his similarities to Toji, but even then, it doesn’t last that long because he rather have the real deal, if that makes sense. Megumi’s relationship to his favorite person in the whole wide world is actually to his detriment.

However, things don’t turn out for the worse until he finds out why he was welcomed into the Zen’in estate in the first place.

Because he’s essentially his replacement! If not the preferred option… and this revelation has Naoya seething with anger. How dare his family do that to him, after all he’s done for them?!

And believe me when I say Naoya was more than ready to retaliate, find a way to sabotage the poor kid—

Until you stepped in and disapproved of his actions.

But not only that, your engagement too, and possibly even your relationship.

“Can’t you see how critical this is?! I am to lose my title, my place in this family because of this—kid!” Naoya tries to justify his actions, attempts to convince you of his erroneous beliefs and support him. “We’re going to lose everything! Is that the life you want?! To be thrown out into the streets?!”

But you’re not having it, because that’s not why you fell in love with him in the first place.

“I don’t care if we live in poverty, Naoya. However, I do care if I am to face those struggles with a man I’m suddenly surprised to learn he’s not the type of father I want for my future children.”

Your statement certainly shakes the foundations of his behavior for a bit, though he’s kind of back at it again soon after, believing you’d return to your usual self in no time. Like it always goes…

However, it’s not until your prolonged, absolutely painful silence towards him, enough to refuse to sleep in the same bed as him, that he finally snaps out of his delusions.

It’s now clear to him that your words referred to your reconsideration of this engagement, fearing that the way he behaved towards his innocent nephew might actually be a direct reflection of his fatherhood. One of the many things you are non-negotiable about.

He’d have to be naïve to think his relationship, his future children, couldn’t entail a possibility like this. Like his clan hadn’t accepted his engagement to you for the slightest possibility of begetting a son with their inherited technique.

Neither had thought much about it, perhaps too enthralled with the idea of spending the rest of their lives together—but this was a very plausible circumstance. Or at least it was until the obnoxious white-haired heir came along and dragged poor Megumi and his sister into a world he was previously unaware of.

And he just had to go ahead and disappoint you, didn’t he? Eagerly considering doing things he would never attempt against his own children… all because he was jealous.

No wonder you didn’t want to relate to him anymore. He was acting the same way his family did! How they taught him to be.

The same behavior that once threatened this relationship to never exist, unless he changed for the good.

Naoya thought he did, but with the prospect of his future marriage now hanging by a string, he’s not so sure anymore.

Still, hope remains. A sliver of opportunity for him to retract his denouncing actions and do what’s right before it’s too late.

So, willing to put his (imaginary) differences aside, he approaches young Megumi with intentions of bridging the gap between the two and getting to actually know him; his first and perhaps only relative to care enough to do so, it seems.

Unfortunately, Megumi wasn’t too keen on following his lead. In fact, he didn’t want to entertain anything that might entail the heir, which honestly surprised Naoya since his preconceived notions influenced him to believe otherwise. This kid is essentially going to get his job, wouldn’t he like to know more about it??

Not really. For all he could care for was the wellbeing of his sister, another young child Naoya grew slightly indifferent to after hearing she wasn’t really related to his cousin, a stepchild. He had no quarrel with her, but he wasn’t the best “in-law” either.

Well, at least this made his job easier when it came to getting into Megumi’s good graces, all he had to do was order a better life for her and that was set. However, the kid’s coldness towards him remained, and at the prospect of his options quickly running out, Naoya grows desperate—anxious.

What if he never makes amends for his acts?

Would you… leave him?

“Stupid Satoru, this is all his fault! If he had only come to me first instead of dumping all his problems to us, this would’ve been way different!”

Who would’ve thought, however, that he and Megumi would end up bonding over their shared distaste for the Gojo heir?

“So, he’s always like that?” Megumi quietly asks upon hearing Naoya curse out his frustrations.

“Huh? Who?” Naoya asks, unsure if he’s talking to him.

“Satoru, has he always been this immature?”

Your fiancée blinks.

“Yeah, since he was a kid.” Naoya continues. “An obnoxious, irritating—”

“White-haired creep.” Megumi finishes, he grins.

“I knew I couldn’t be the only one that saw Gojo for what he really is!” Naoya proudly states, as if he hadn’t previously admired the man for as long as he could remember, the epitome of strength but only behind his cousin!

Though his disdain only came much later upon learning of a particular succession that happened between you and him; since then, he’s been persona non grata in his life.

“Makes sense why his friends look at him the way they do.” Megumi continues. “How can he even have friends in the first place??”

“No idea, might pay them for their time or something.”

“Yeah, definitely.”

It marked the beginning of a new friendship, one that Naoya genuinely enjoyed past making amends and getting back to your good graces, enough so for him to actually invite him to train; Megumi refused his initial invitation, citing he really didn’t have much interest about sorcery and such, but eventually agreed after realizing all of the things he could accomplish by becoming strong…

Such as protecting his sister.

Besides, Naoya ought to be a far better adequate training partner than those goons in the kukuru and akashi units, or old geezers like this father and uncle.

“It’d be my privilege to train you.” Naoya continues. “And perhaps, in due time, you’ll be able to beat Gojo yourself.”

Consider him sold.

Though some restraints must still be employed.

“You better not be encouraging to do anything bad, Naoya.” You say after bumping into him just around the corner, once their training session was over and both were dismissed to clean up.

“Y/N!” Naoya gasps, thrilled to see you again; he tried to play it cool but, well, he never could contain himself with the love of his life. “I—… I don’t know what to say, I wasn’t expecting to see you here.”

“I hear that you were actually getting along, so… I just came by to check in on the two.”

“We have. He’s quite entertaining, you know?”

“I know. He’s very sweet too.”

“Really?” Naoya raises an eyebrow.

“When no one’s watching, of course. Kind of reminds me of someone…”

“Are you still… disappointed with me?”

You sigh.

“No, not really.” You admit. “But I did get a bit… worried.”

About what he’d do if one of his children had inherited his family’s technique.

“I’d still love them, like I love you.” Naoya reassures, a sentiment you know to be true now. “I could only love all that comes from you.”

“I’m glad I wasn’t wrong.” You smile, taking his hand with yours and pulling him closer.

“Does this mean…?”

“Yeah, we have lots of catching up to.” You tease. “But—I need you to promise me something before that.”

“Anything.”

“That you’d be careful about what you say about Satoru in front of Megumi; I wouldn’t want him to do something by accident in the days he’s here and… well, you know, make things awkward.”

Naoya laughs.

“I mean, we wouldn’t be lying…”

“Naoya.”

“Alright, I promise. No more trash talking.”

Also, to not leave that major question unanswered: I feel like Megumi would be the one to eventually ask Naoya about his dad; Naoya for sure wanted to tell him all the amazing things Toji seemingly did, but you convinced him not to because...

Not sure if it's ooc, but I also believe Naoya's perspective of him might change a bit.... he'll still admire the crap out of him, but there's just things that he doesn't perceive so happily anymore.

Anyways, there's my interpretation of the relationship they could have hehehe it began with Naoya trying to mend things because of you but they ended up being somewhat amicable with one another :) to torment Satoru is their main motivation. (don't get me wrong, Megumi eventually finds Naoya annoying too, but, well, he can benefit out of the two one way or the other hahah)

Hi I'm the guy who rated all the houses based off of how good at sex they are a few months ago and now I'm gonna pivot and rate them all based off of (musical) Theatre Kid Energy. Decidedly less interesting but who cares I'm having fun. Starting with the Blue Lions

Dimitri - He's enough of a loser to be a theatre kid for sure, and definitely stupid enough, but I don't think he's annoying enough. Best I can see is him casually enjoying a few popular musicals, and probably only the ones that have been made into movies. 4/10

Dedue - I just don't think he's lame enough to be a theatre kid. I actually think he would be really good at singing, but I don't think he'd do it often. At best, he's a choir kid. And he does not audition for the musical. Like Dimitri he could probably casually enjoy a few musicals though. 4/10

Sylvain - TOXIC TENOR BOYFRIEND ALERT TOXIC TENOR BOYFRIEND ALERT!!!!!! Not elaborating. 8/10

Felix - also toxic and also a tenor but he refused to audition for the musical even when Sylvain BEGGED him. Eventually they found a compromise in Felix doing tech. He gives mean asshole stage manager vibes. 5/10

Ingrid - She also gives tech/stagecraft vibes to me! Which I suppose is a type of theatre kid...? I think dunno if she really knows a lot about plays/musicals but she likes carrying around heavy slabs of wood. I don't think she'd audition for a musical even if someone literally begged her to though. 5/10

Ashe - okay so like. Yes? But he's the guy who's just kind of okay at singing/dancing/acting and is more there because he really enjoys the rehearsal process itself. He is actively happy to be put in ensemble. I could also see him as a stagehand or perhaps soundboard guy. But even more than that I think he just likes musicals as an art form, not even necessarily being in them. 7/10

Mercedes - I think she's kinda similar in that she gets ensemble and is just completely chill about it. I think the cast party is probably at her house and she has the best snack spread. Also think she watches a lot of musicals with Annette so she has an appreciation for the art form. 7/10

Annette - I mean like yeah. Idk what else to say I think she'd both enjoy watching and being in musicals. I think she usually gets ensemble and is always hoping for featured at least and she'd mildly disappointed but not annoying about it. She ran a lemonade stand to pay for Hamilton tickets once. 8/10

In Sharing Is Caring But We Never Learned How, I really loved how you wrote Vector Espio and Charmy. Even though they weren't the focus of the fic I wanted to ask if you had any ideas about them and their dynamic!

You know, I was wondering if anyone was curious about them! I'm so happy you asked! :D

I like to imagine that Vector and Espio met while they were both in the foster care system. They're so young to be running a business and raising a small child, I figure it makes sense that they felt like they were on their own pretty early on. They ended up in the same residential treatment program when Vector was about 16 and Espio was 12 and hit it off surprisingly well, to the point that when Vector aged out of the system two years later, he took Espio with him (I need to amend Espio's age in Sharing is Caring btw, I meant to make him 15 since his ages have mostly skewed older than Sonic over the years, but I totally forgot since I wrote that note like two years ago xD).

Even though Vector's older, and technically the one responsible over both Espio and Charmy, he treats Espio as more of a partner with equal footing in terms of responsibilities, rather than as a son or younger brother. Espio definitely doesn't see Vector as any sort of authority figure beyond potential "boss" and that's mostly because he's more front-facing with clients and handles the finances, lol. And also Espio can’t legally be listed on any of the business' official paperwork until he’s 16 xD They do consider one another family, but since they weren't really raised from childhood together, their bond is hard for them to describe. It's why Vector's so keen to just call Espio and Charmy "his boys." It encompasses everything anyone needs to know about them both, lol. They're his boys!

Now Charmy is absolutely Vector's son xD Espio is usually more of an older brother figure to Charmy, but there are times where he's also better at disciplining Charmy than Vector is, lol. Of course, Espio will often take the “I told you so” route whenever Vector fails to rein Charmy in instead of actually helping. But there are times – moreso when they’re older – that Espio feels somewhat of a parental responsibility for Charmy. The lines of their little family unit are exceptionally blurred, but they don't really care. It works for them!

Espio is stern, but overall more patient with Charmy, while Vector tries to play "good cop" to Espio's "bad cop," but will lose his temper a lot quicker, leading to physical hijinks like grabbing at Charmy or sitting on him, but Charmy just thinks of it as a game. Pushing Vector and Espio’s buttons, to see how much he can get away with, is all part of the fun! Especially because he knows Vector is actually a huge softy at heart and would let Charmy get away with murder no matter how much he annoys him xD Overall, Charmy sees Vector as more of his dad than he does Espio, but he looks up to them both and will imitate certain traits of theirs that he admires. Usually it’s Vector’s business-savvy (or lack thereof, lol) and Espio’s ninja skills.

I want Vector and Espio to have met Charmy while on their first official case, I’m just not sure what that looks like just yet. But they found him when he was very young – only a year or two old – and couldn’t just leave the little guy on his own. Since Vector would’ve already been a licensed foster parent to have Espio with him, he’d be all set to take Charmy in, too.

There’s still more to their background and dynamic that I haven’t fully explored yet, but that’s the basis of what I have for them so far! Thanks for asking!

your eridan sollux john comic instilled new feelings in me i never thought possible. i never thought about john and eridan in a ship related way but god damn its REALLY INTRIGUING???? do you have more thoughts on them headcanons or interactions or like how they even meet and start talking?

In my opinion, John would give Eridan the freedom to move beyond that by questioning him. John does eventually get tired of hearing bullshit and will confront Eridan on his words and actions, but because John is loyal, it offers Eridan a form of stability. John isn’t just gonna dump his ass because he’s annoying/over dramatic/etc, he’ll just talk to him about it. So, when Eridan gets too much in his head, John can pull him from his thoughts and potentially make Eridan reassess what he is actually feeling. On the flip side, Eridan forces John to think about things he probably wouldn’t on his own. Gender, sexuality, how he’s treated, his opinions, his feelings on things. John sorta breezes (haha) through things that maybe he should think more about. He’s a bit of an airhead (hahaha). While John does not explicitly share a lot of things in common with Eridan, I could see John opening up more to what Eridan is interested in, but also see Eridan opening up to what John likes too. Part of the reason is because Eridan is so desperate to have connections that he might just do so because he’s afraid of losing his moirail (though i can imagine him not holding back his opinions or judgment), but with time (and stable moirail), i think Eridan would mellow out in that area. I think John is more than capable of moving past issues that do show up as well. He may get angry, but not to the point of abandoning him. In Summation: In MY interpretation, John offers loyalty and stability without becoming too put-off by Eridan’s less than kind behaviors and actions without enabling him to continue doing terrible shit. Eridan also offers loyalty, but offers a reality check and pushes John to think more critically about himself/the world. This moiraillegiance would not be without its ups and downs, but I think it could work. How I imagined them meeting is purely because of John's retcon abilities. Preventing everyone’s deaths involves stopping Eridan from killing Feferi. Then later, showing up to knock some sense into others (like Equius, by initially yelling at him and then throwing Nepeta at him). This is very AU territory, of course. It would fracture the canon. But that’s the nice thing about fanon, you can make up shit because you just want to. After John prevents Eridan from murdering, Eridan runs off because…well, he almost murdered his friends. John probably continues to fracture the timeline by keeping everyone alive, but eventually comes back. Eridan basically outcasting himself probably rants about everything being hopeless, but John being John just kinda shrugs it off and offers a hand instead. The rant probably got annoying, but he didn’t destroy canon just so only 11 of the 12 would be around. Plus John knows a thing or two about being the odd one out. John’s powers often alienate him. From there on, I think it’s a gradual change to “we’re moirails”, probably because John likely has to keep dragging Eridan back to the group because the others are not happy with his almost slaying of several of them and just most of the trolls are tired of him (and have their own histories around him). Eridan also has his own issues to work through, but at least not alone. At some point, probably after several lengthy discussions (cause quadrants still confuse John), John agrees to it. They definitely have moments of contention, but, once they’ve established a foundation (they both have issues around relationships, in my opinion), I think they help one another grow. In some regards, I could see the two of them more on a red spectrum, but that kinda leans more into my own opinions/headcanons of how the group is sorta fluid-y in terms of their quadrants with one another, because John is also human and their relationship with him would have to account for that. Overall, to me, Eridan and John pass the vibe check, but I also just like weird ships. There are a lot of ways you could argue against this relationship ever happening, sure, but I just like it. Also, I think about things that don’t matter far too much. Djvbdfhb

Hi! Ace person (not demi, but under the same umbrella and also starved for representation) and Lucanis fan here!

OP summarized really well how annoying it feels to have the writer go "yeah this was totally intentional the whole time, the company just didn't advertise it the way they did all the other rep." The company made such a production about all the companions being romance-able by any PC configuration and then said it was because they were all pansexual, 'because representation' not because they were making the companions 'player-sexual', but then the company outright denied having ace rep. I could put that down to corporate PR teams not understanding that asexuality is a spectrum that demisexuality falls into. If I was inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt, I might even be persuaded that Mary Kirby was planning to be more blatant about it, but the scenes/dialogue were cut. But I'm not inclined to give the benefit of the doubt (especially given that some of those cut-scenes were apparently 'steamy'). It feels a lot like claiming credit after the fact for brownie points.

As an ace person, I'd like to expand a bit on what OP said about Lucanis being traumatized. To preface, I like that Lucanis is said to be demisexual. I'm so damn starved for ace rep. And I appreciate that the ace rep here is a man in his thirties who doesn't go through an arc 'figuring it out' or stressing about how he experiences romance/attraction. (So much of existing ace rep involves angst about it. I feel no angst about my orientation, only vague irritation that it takes a power point presentation to explain. Seeing people angst about it does not inspire an 'oh that's me' response, it makes me feel sad for them.) He just is the way he is, and lives his life. Dude has bigger problems than swapping bodily fluids with people. I also like that he's inexperienced and doesn't angst about that either.

But they made the ace (demi, if you prefer the distinction) character a deeply traumatized person whose hesitance to be intimate can be attributed to his trauma. The PC gets a whole personal quest for Lucanis dealing with his tendency to internalize his reactions to everything but especially the trauma. Then the final romantic cut-scene implies intimacy without commentary regarding hesitance of any kind. As if the early instinct to pull back was overcome with the trauma. I'm really damn sick of ace-coded characters being traumatized. My sexuality was not formed by trauma. There is a misconception that people aren't actually ace, they're just traumatized or repressed or haven't 'met the one' yet (which, btw, sounds a lot like demisexuality doesn't it?). If trauma formed sexuality, there would be a lot less people interested in men (yes, that's generalizing, but come on, look at the statistics). I am the way I am. Can I have one ace character that doesn't angst about it or wasn't traumatized in an extremely violating fashion?

Also, Lucanis doesn't discuss his lack of intimate experience with the PC. It's tucked away in companion banter with Emmerich. If the PC doesn't bring the two of them along enough, you could easily miss it. Again, Lucanis is a character that has a lot more going on than dating troubles, but if the PC romances him, it would just be reasonable character writing to have a scene about 'oh yeah, this dating thing, never really done that. never really done the physical intimacy bit either. but I would like to do that, with you.' The fact that there isn't a scene or discussion or dialogue like that makes me feel like the writers had more plausible deniability to say he isn't demi, than they deserve credit for adding demi rep.

I wasn't looking for him to say the words. I actually prefer it that they don't. I liked what they did with Krem and Maevaris: in my opinion, they balanced affirming how they identify with setting appropriate language and reactions they have to deal with. It breaks my immersion in the setting when characters start using modern terminology for things that sometimes even the average modern person isn't familiar with. But one, one singular line where Lucanis says that before the PC, he's never truly thought about someone 'this way' would have done a lot of heavy lifting.

You know who would have been revolutionary as ace/demi rep? Davrin. The nice, handsome, sociable, heroic, knight in shining armor, ready to martyr himself to save the world, trying to raise a griffon, no intimacy related trauma to be found. Romancing him has been described as straightforward but intimate. Which is great, he's a lovely character, I'm very fond of him. But if he was ace/demi? On the far side of the map from every stereotype people think of? I would have lost my mind. Again, I really like Lucanis as a character, but if I have to seek out fanfic to fill in the gaps, the writers didn't accomplish what they said they were aiming for.

I openly accept any corrections, especially from actual Lucanis fans or demisexuals. If you disagree with anything I say this point onwards, please tell me!

The way Lucanis went from "bisexual disaster " to "panromantic demisexual" after the game came out feels weird (Both are direct quotes about Lucanis from Mary Kirby). Before I get into this I'd like to clarify, neither is a problem, Lucanis being demisexual in a vacuum is not what I take issue with.

But it feels like another excuse. Being demisexual means something it's not just another word for inexperienced or hesitant. If Lucanis is demisexual why does he fall for Neve or Rook nearly just as fast as any other companion does and why does he never acknowledge that?

There are many hints that he's never dated before (not sure if it's ever outrught stated), and again, he is shown to be hesitant... but nothing uniquely in the direction of demisexuality.

This game clearly isn't afraid of using real terms (it has an entire codex going over different non-binary labels), so why is this where they draw the line? Why does Lucanis never acknowledge the fact that he requires a deep connection before he feels certain things?

I've seen people call Krem from DA:I bad trans representation because he's never called transgender, which I respectfully disagree with. Still, Krem is explicitly trans and then Lucanis's demisexual coding is just... pulling away before you can kiss? It doesn't help that the scene happens after something that would definitely explain why Lucanis would need to clear his head.

That's also paired with the fact we do get told constantly that he's traumatised and he mentions having little faith in people prior to his romance (at least with Neve). This isn't to say he can't be demisexual, not at all, but there's always an explanation for his behaviour that people would think of before demisexuality and there's no effort put in to otherwise lead us to it.

For a game that is on the nose about everything, I find it hard to give them the benefit of the doubt that this was the one thing they handled with subtlety.

Best case scenario, Mark Kirby was just trying to... I don't know, set up expectations to defy them? Worst case scenario, this is just another case of someone from Bioware lying to us about this damn game.

I personally really could not give less of a fuck about genderswapped ruikasa because first and foremost imo I think people just do it to get yuri warrior points instead of actually caring about female characters/wlw relationships. however I also dgaf because I think people do it in the most boring way possible without thinking about how tsukasa and rui’s personalities would impact how they present themselves as girls.

Tsukasa is so incredibly determined to be seen as a reliable mature older brother figure to the point where he dresses in an incredibly stuffy and boring way & has stripped his room of anything childish (& anything with personality). She would not dress super cute & girly. she would want to be taken seriously (& you should be able to be taken seriously wearing fashion like that but I’m not getting into that rn) & be viewed as anything but childish. She would not dress like Saki she would dress like she worked at a library or something. Her fashion would still be boring. Integral to the character.

I have less to say abt rui because I generally think less about what his fashion choices say about him (beyond hater of tight clothes #sensory issues king) but he is almost never in shorts and dresses in comfy loose fitting clothes he would also not be a hashtag girly girl wearing short skirts and bows either.
