New Puppet Unlocked: Caine, The Puppetmaster!

Caine's character description:

For the longest time, Caine believed that he was the only Puppet left who hasn't gone insane, and has spent living in near complete and total isolation for it (if it weren't for Bubble, his robotic Butler Blimp), drowning himself in booze for what seemed to be the remainder of his days.

That was, until Pomni suddenly arrived at his office out of nowhere and challenged him.

Her sudden appearance, her fierceness in battle and various other reasons, Caine sought to get Pomni to see the dire situation after a stalemate in their duel; That they're the last remnants of sane minds remaining in this forsaken lands and he needs her help for what must be done next, if they are to improve the world's conditions. Thankfully, the Harlequin was not actually cold-hearted, just hot-tempered.

Reinvigorated in his self-assigned purpose, The Puppetmaster now spends his time either indoctrinating reawakened Puppets and teaching them how to become "human" once more, tinkering/inventing new machines, having friendly debates or sparring with Pomni just to satisfy her urge to battle, and various other things.

Though, he still likes to drink.

Fun facts about Caine:

He is a massive drunkard.

He passes out in the most random places if he drinks too much. One of the most outrageous locations Pomni has found him in was at the chandelier on the main lounge, which even he can't remember how he got there.

Caine still acts boisterous and speaks mostly formally; though there are ways you can break his way of speech, the easiest way to do it is to surprise him.

He avoids using swears, says it's a gentleman's code. Though, some get past his mouth on a rare occasion.

He created Bubble out of loneliness, initially just wanting someone to talk to.

In a comedic parallel, he tends to limit Pomni's cravings for battle by holding her sword hostage as much as possible, of course to the Harlequin's frustration.

His second gold tooth on his bottom jaw was a result of his and Pomni's first meeting/duel. She ended up kicking him so hard in her rage, one teeth cracked in half and flew off.

He tends to look at everyone with a positive mindset and the want to see the best in them; although Jax seems to be a rare exception. Still, he lets the automaton be.

Most of his time is spent hanging around in his office. The only time you'll see him outside is if there's a task he needs to attend to, assembling Pomni back together in the cellar, another sparring match with the Harlequin, or when he talks to Z and/or Kingr, since they are both too big for the insides of the mansion.

Like almost every ADHD-person, he is prone to getting distracted easily.

He has a strict "no fighting in the premises" rule; instead, he tells them to literally take it outside (even if it means being on the neighboring lawn), as long as it's not on the INSIDE.

He keeps his shirt opened because he feels discomfort and suffocated when he buttons it up.

He doesn't like to talk about his past.

When asked what's his classification, he'll avoid and switch topics. His rare anger (but eerily-calm way of speech) comes out when you ask about it too much.

He does admit that his entire body was self-modified.

You can hear his arrival in a scene by the sounds of ball joints slightly cracking in place.

Aside from Pomni, he likes Kingr the most, finding the chess piece's presence calming. This has lead to jokes about a bromance happening between the two.

And just like Pomni as well, Caine fixes Kingr the most because the Helpful King tends to use himself as a shield for the Harlequin.

He's rarely seen without his cane.

He HEAVILY dislikes it when Pomni dies. When he is aware that Pomni is at the brink of death, he'll start panicking and telling her to go back and abandon the mission for now, through Bubble.

After Pomni's surprise arrival (and proof that he could still be hunted down if he wasn't careful enough), he took the manor up to the skies to ensure that the manor remains a safe haven.

Pomni, Kinger, Caine & Jax's reaction to their s/o abstracting

warning(s): angst, hurt no comfort, self-blame, "death" of the reader, implied "death"/abstraction of another character (spoiler: Kinger), hopeful outcome note(s): There's nothing incredibly heavy or detailed, just tread carefully if "death" is something you are sensitive to, please. The "hopeful outcome" implies that Caine will at some point in time be able to fix those who've abstracted. A/N: I was feeling particularly cruel and wanted to write some angst, this came to mind and I'll be honest. I made myself a little sad.

Pomni

She never saw it coming, of course, you were acting different lately but she didn’t think it would… lead to you abstracting…

It took forever for things to get some semblance of normalcy, and you being with her was a major part of it.

Sure the relationship in a place like this was a bit, weird, but you cared about her, and she cared about you.

You kept her sane and grounded, so when you were found abstracted? It felt like she failed you.

Ragatha tries to assure her that you aren’t completely gone. Like Kaufmo you’re being kept in the cellar. Caine claims the abstracted are being kept there until he can find a way to “fix” them. (Whether he’s genuine or not though, none of them know.)

It’s all empty promises though, she still feels like she failed you.

Kinger

Not again…

Kinger silently promised himself not again, he was fine being friendly with everyone else that fell into the circus, but he had no intentions of being more than that.

But then you happened, and while he was still in shambles from the time and the insanity spent here, you were there beside him. Like a knight in shining armor.

He hadn’t been around when you abstracted, in fact, he didn’t know you abstracted until there was yelling, and boom an abstraction was causing chaos.

Kinger didn’t know who it was until it was sent off to the cellar, actually, he didn’t know who it was until he realized everyone was present except you.

There’s a high probability that losing someone again, losing you, is what ends up being his own downfall. The other’s (not including Jax) try their all to get him to calm down but it’s not enough, it’s too late…

Caine

Of all the humans to be pulled in he never once got attached.

This was never supposed to happen, he’s incapable of love.

Caine does his best to keep the humans from abstracting, and as many eyes as he has over the place, there are always ones that slip through his grasp.

Of course, he’s not around when you abstract, it takes a bunch of hooting and hollering from everyone before he shows up and oh hey an abstraction.

At an immediate glance, he knows it’s you, abstractions never remotely look like the person they were before but he knows it’s you. You don’t recognize him as you lash out, of course you don’t, you can’t.

He’s unsure about tossing you with the others in the cellar, there’s nowhere else he can truthfully keep you without causing problems. So into the cellar, you go.

Caine visits you though, not for long but he does check in on you. Not that anything changes, but out of all the abstractions down there, he knows exactly which one is you.

You’ll be the first human he fixes as soon as he’s able to.

Jax

His s/o abstracted? Nice joke, though it’s in poor taste. You’re completely fine, he just saw you earlier.

Jax doesn’t believe it until he sees it, and seeing it absolutely ruins him. He’s seen countless others get abstracted and thrown into the cellar, but why, why does it have to be you?

Why couldn’t it have been literally anyone else? He didn’t give a shit about anyone else, the one person he cared for, and you…

Similarly to Pomni, he feels it’s his fault like he could’ve, no should’ve done more. Was he so wrapped up in everything else that he didn’t notice the signs? Why didn’t you talk to him? You didn’t, didn’t do that on purpose, did you?

For the first time ever, the others are genuinely worried about Jax, they all saw/know how much you meant to him. The two of you even spoke fondly about what the two of you would do if you got out of the circus.

For a while Jax becomes even more irrational and unhinged, they try not to hold it against him too badly, even when he oversteps. He’s grieving and none of them know just how long that’ll go on.

Jax isn’t quite the same afterward, but he makes sure that nobody else tries to worm their way into his heart.

If it’s possible, he’ll make sure Caine fixes you the second he’s able to. Even if Caine can fix only one person, it’s going to be you.

NEW AU TIIIME ~

I think the theories of Jax are an interesting idea for an au... so here's my take! And @cherriisodapop 's cuz she is really helping me along with this

Some info ive scrambled up about him below cut !!

○ Jax is an NPC from a discontinued map dubbed "Chaos Land". He grew up there with his mom and dad, whom of which are a rubber bunny and plushy badger.

○ He's known he was an NPC since a young age. While exploring he found himself glitched beneath the map, finding the models of everyone he knows. Being a child however, he dismisses it, and grows up assuming it's normal. He hardly thought back on it anyway, much too busy with life above.

○ On an adventure where Kaufmo runs into Jax and they're glitched below the map, Kaufmo makes a comment about Jax's general disinterest in the models. Jax explains they don't matter, to which Kaufmo ends up explaining they do. This causes Jax to spiral, because now he knows the truth of the matter. He is not human, but Kaufmo and the others who came on the adventure are.

○ as an almost parallel of Pomni and Gummigoo's scene, Kaufmo suggests he come along to the circus with him. They make a plan to fake Jax's arrival as a human so Caine isn't aware that he is an NPC.

○ Kaufmo and Jax work together to fuck with coding and create a room for Jax at the very end of the hallway of dorms. It captures a very small segment of his home realm. Anyone human who nears it gets this overwhelming feeling of wrongness. He never lets anyone in.

○ he has some features left over from his home, one of which being the ability to pull small things out of thin air. Out of fear of suspicion, he pretends to pull these small objects from his overalls pocket. Another being how he does things in a very,, "wrong" way. Example being in the drawing how he's eating the banana (shame on him for that btw).... kaufmo teaches him ways to be more human, but old habits die hard.

○ he thrives on causing chaos in the circus, pranking and bullying others to get their reactions. He's curious, wanting to know how humans react to things that he finds funny or normal. Human nature and their reactions to just about anything intrigue his curiosity, though he's skilled at hiding this through snide comments and teasing.

○ after Kaufmo's abstraction, he finds himself frustrated. He believes he cannot truely experience what it is to mourn his only friend in the circus, and so he's more prone to unstable moods and outburts.

○ events are very much canon-compliant for both pilot and episode two! after that is still a WIP!

GANGLE

When will Gangle know happiness... 

KINGER

Kinger was adorable as always. I like how the others can rely on him when they're feeling emotionally vulnerable. That scene with Ragatha and her self-doubt, and how Kinger reassures her? I'm glad he has these moments of clarity. Old man even tries to help Pomni, even if he's bad at it. He's so well intentioned. <3

JAX

Jax is a terrible person. He was already very bad before, but somehow got worse. No care for his companions (Pomni and Gangle mostly), no care for the NPCs (he was very eager to see them die horribly). There's some indication Jax might have cared about Kaufmo, but overall, his attitude is so dissonant. It's hard to understand what's really going on inside his head.

RAGATHA

I like that Ragatha didn't hold any grudges over Pomni abandoning her in episode 1. Ragatha is just so sweet. Constantly worrying for Pomni's well being, being considerate enough to try to cheer up Jax of all people. She makes a huge difference in this group, like a glue that keeps everyone together.

GUMMIGOO

LOVED Gummigoo. Yeah I wasn't prepared for him. I didn't know what to expect of him (he looked like a serious bad guy type?), but what we got was so good. Loves his two gummy gator friends (wants to preserve their minds from the weight of self-awareness). His connection to Pomni, the way they could relate, it was all believable and palpable. Nice guy.

POMNI

Pomni herself was my favorite. Compassionate, empathetic, expressing her thoughts calmly and sincerely. Determined, inventive - trying to find ways to get herself and Gummigoo out of that place. 

I think the fact that she spent most of these two episodes physically separated from everyone else was no coincidence. Pomni was disconnected from them. The dream sequence at the beginning? A reflection of her own doubts and fears. That she's nothing, or that no one in the circus would care if she was gone. So she, either intentionally or by happenstance, distanced herself. 

I'm super happy that the episode ended on a hopeful note. Pomni found that her companions would care for her and remember her, and so it turned her views on her head. She's not alone. She has people that she can rely on.....

KAUFMO

(The Kaufmo funeral was very touching too, especially with Zooble organizing it. I've seen jokes that no one cared much that he died in episode 1, so seeing otherwise was pretty cool.)

FANDOM

I hold no ill will against Caine, and this is coming from someone who really really liked Gummygoo (literally screamed a big NOOO when he poofed). It's a little concerning how feral people are getting about Caine.

CAINE

Speaking of Caine, I need understanding between them, I need it SO bad. He keeps making these little decisions that impact the human characters. Especially Pomni. And he's not even aware of how much it hurts them, or that it's harmful at all!!

The way some of them are so dismissive (Zooble waiting for him to go away), annoyed, or only see Caine as a bot that fixes things when everything goes wrong... it makes me think they've tried to reason with him before, and it didn't work, so now they treat him like the machine he is to them.

As of now, Pomni understands him as much as everyone else does. She's frustrated, she's livid, and she has every reason to want to punch his teeth in. But after episode 2???? Considering how sympathetic Pomni was with Gummigoo, an NPC/AI himself???? I have a little hope that Pomni can actually get through to Caine in the future.

Infected With Giggle bugs

Caine is being a menace, and Pomni needs to get the truth about this silly behavior.

The tent was surprisingly peaceful today, or as peaceful as it can be inside The Amazing Digital Circus. The humans were off enjoying their own activities after yet another adventure filled with slime. Yes, slime. They'll never understand why Caine incorporates so much slime into their adventures.

One such member hums happily, snuggling deeper into the plush couch she was reading on in the lounge area. It's not often Pomni gets to actually relax from all the chaos that consumes her daily digital life. She takes a deep breath, enjoying the momentary silence.

A quick poke to her side caused the breath she was taking to catch in her throat. The jester turned to where the poke had come from, but she saw nothing there. She looks around, hesitating before returning to her book. Maybe she imagined it?

Suddenly, she felt a poke on her other side, causing her to jump and let out a small squeak. This time, Pomni heard what seemed like faint giggling coming from her right. However, when she turned to confront the source of the sound, she found she was still alone.

Pomni shook her head, the bells on her hat ringing along with the motion. "H-hello?" She called out, her anxiety beginning to put her on edge. What if it was a rouge NPC? Or Jax. The thought of Jax playing a prank on her made her groan.

Until that groan was replaced by another squeak and a slight giggle of her own when she felt a poke in her left side. Seriously, what is going on!? Pomni frantically searched the lounge for the culprit, but she couldn't find a living soul.

Pomni tapped her foot in concentration. Since whoever was messing with her didn't want to reveal themselves, she would have to force her hand. A rare smirk appeared on the usually jittery jester's face as she planned her trap.

The small girl shrugged, pretending that she thought it was nothing. She picked up her discarded book and returned to her spot on the couch. Although she appeared to be reading again, she was actually waiting for the culprit to strike once more.

And strike they did.

First, Pomni heard muffled giggling. She continued to act as though she hadn't noticed it. Then, from the corner of her eye, she spotted a familiar pair of dentures with large, floating eyes peeking out from beside the arm of the couch.

When she saw Caine's hand reach out to poke her right side, Pomni dropped her book and grabbed his hand, exclaiming, "AH HA!"

Caine gulped, knowing he was caught red-handed. How did he plan to escape his fate?

With the truth, of course!

"Why, hello, P-Pomni! Uh- wh-what brings y-y-you... here?" (Caine. Honey. That isn't the truth -_-') Caine chuckles making his teeth chatter with nervous energy. He taps the couch with his free hand, trying to seem casual.

Pomni saw right through him and got straight to the point. "Were you the one poking me?" She asked, leveling him with a skeptical stare.

"Me? Poke you? Now, why would I ever do that!?" Caine proclaimed, having the nerve to act offended.

He didn't plan to back down, huh.

Pomni huffed. It's obvious the AI is lying. The Ringmaster's expressive cartoonish eyes told everything as they flickered from side to side, looking anywhere but at her. "Caine. I'm going to give you one more chance to tell the truth."

"I've given you the truth, my dear!"

Caine had his chance. She'll have to get the truth the hard way.

Pomni tsked in disappointment, a rare feeling of playfulness and mischief overtaking her. She took Caine's other hand and pulled him over the side of the couch and into her lap.

The Ringmaster lets out a surprised yelp, staring at Pomni in bewilderment. "Wh- Pomni!"

Pomni didn't give him much of a chance to react before she formed her hands into claws and began tickling his sides. "What was that, Caine? I couldn't understand you!"

Caine was completely taken aback by the timid jesters' behavior. And she's teasing him! Has the digital world gone insane!?

Nope. It was just Caine who was going insane from the tickling, causing tingling feelings all throughout his code, making him giggle. "Not the tickles! Not the tickles!" He cried out between hiccups, kicking his legs and lightly pushing at her hands.

He didn't want to accidentally hurt her- That's why he barely fought back. (Caine, you're lying again.)

"Wow, Caine. It seems you're infected with the Giggle Bugs!" Pomni giggled along with the AI, enjoying the silliness of the situation. Caine's crazy energy must have rubbed off on her from their time spent together. She has become fond of the Ringmaster over the past few... however long it has been. He tried. He really tried to understand and make friends with the circus members. Pomni couldn't stay mad at his goofy face for long. "Are you ready to tell the truth?" She asked, squeezing up where his ribs would be.

"Yes! It was me! I surrender!" Caine exclaimed loudly, admitting to his guilt. He snorted at the squeezing causing his jaws to turn a deep tomato red.

Pomni giggled some more, cooing softly at the adorable sight. "Alright. I think you've learned your lesson." She immediately stops the tickling, now simply holding him in her lap.

Caine pouts once he calmed down, closing his mouth and facing away from her. "Meanie," he mumbles.

Pomni smiles softly, patting his top jaw knowing he didn't mean that.

She knew he had fun.

I gotta ramble about Showtimeshipping and Digital Circus for a hot minute before this thought disappears into the Void forever.

I just LOVE the potential of a Caine/Pomni dynamic in a one sided disaster ship kinda way. I see alot of shippers like making Caine the romantic one. Whether its Showtime or Royalshipping it seems Caine is boisterous and loud, therefore he's the haughty romantic. But he is afraid of Moon's advances, "Let's get outta here before the Moon get's frisky!". He's also an AI made for a children's point and click adventure carnival game by a cooperation in the early 2000s. Gooseworks has stated at Glitch con that he lacks alot of human emotions. I see no reason he would be outwardly romantic in the slightest other than his overenergetic and passionate personality.

I find it more hilarious if Pomni, the anxious and probably overlooked in her past life girl that she is, emotionally latched onto Caine in some way or another. Either from his personality being everything she wished she could be, bold and confident, simply seeing him as a powerful being that is the last remaining hope she has of returning to who she was, or a lighthearted Stockholm syndrome emotional dependency I dont' know. Maybe it's simply she found his voice attractive and spiraled from there. Pomni becomes angry that she's attracted to this floating teeth with eyes and just screams. Jax catches onto her little infatuation very easily and makes fun of her without outing her, making it a back and forth with them.

Caine eventually realizes his new player is unhappy and becoming increasingly unhinged very quickly. He doesn't want another intrusive abstraction, especially since she just got here, so he begins spending more time with Pomni trying to get her to chill. His purpose is to entertain and provide a fun escape from daily stress, so seeing a player as stressed as Pomni is tugs at his sensors. He needs her to be as accustomed to the world as everyone else is. If not he failed as a video game and failed is own programing. It's his duty to ensure she is comfortable and having fun.

So now Caine is hyper vigilant of Pomni's life and emotions. He takes her on adventures just for her to cheer her up, just the two of them. This is to ensure the quest is specific to her, that others aren't at risk to make her spiral further, and that he has full attention on her so he can assure her it is a painless and harmless quest, since he can always fix her or get rid of an issue if it becomes too much. All of it was just meant as a safety procedure, but Pomni sees it as coming on to her with his eagerness to spend all this alone time together. Human perceptions see it as a date, which is not even a thought for Caine. She's still jumpy and nervous and touches him alot. Like alot alot, which Caine thinks is her telling him she's lonley of course! So he gets her gifts to make her feel like she belongs and that she has things to keep her saine. Off course, this all interpreted by Pomni in a Human relationship lense and the attention deepens the hole Pomni has now dug for herself.

Eventually Caine rambles his frustrations about Pomni's behavoir and how no matter what he tries he can't seem to make her happy here to Bubble, who repeats some of his words to the cast that is mostley gone ignored, except for Jax (who already knew) and Ragatha, who finally understood what was happening and feels bad for them both. Pomni is struggling with a crush on a probably dangerous and confused AI while said AI is getting flirted with by a Human and is driving himself mad trying to decipher her strive. She steps up to actually let Caine know what he is missing and this is when true Showtime would start, with Caine realizing he does enjoy helping Pomni and Pomni coming to terms with her emotions instead of just screaming at herself for having them. From there they can have a cute, if mostly aromantic, fluffy friendship that almost borders on dating, but never quite gets there with Caine's limitations.

She's feeling claustrophobic from the tent one day and he generates a small area for her to explore stressfree to take her mind away from that feeling of being trapped. He talks about having creations both from Jax saying, "is this another one of your NPCs?" and Caine saying, "You know how I don't like people seeing my unfinished work" so he is a learning AI that enjoys creating and seems somewhat artistic, despite his limitations and bluntness. He enjoys helping her feel at home, despite the circumstances and Pomni grows more comfortable with herself by his radiating confidence, yet they can both be equally frantic and chaotic if the scene needs it. It's both a timid/bold dynamic and a chaos duo and I love it.

So I was rereading my sister’s old James and the Giant Peach book and I was struck with an idea.

Introducing…the Amazing Digital Peach!!!

If you read the JATGP book or watched the 1996 movie, you already know pretty much the whole plot.

Pomni is a 7-year old human girl who’s orphaned and has to live with her two relaxed but extremely neglectful uncles. They’re too lazy to do anything other than sit around and compliment themselves so they make Pomni do all the work around the house. They let her roam around freely but they’ll lock her in her room if she tries to go down to the shore to play with the other children.

One day, she’s doing work and comes across an old computer. She turns it on and on the screen it shows Caine, obviously. He tells her about these cool crocodile tongues that are inside a jar buried underneath where she found the computer. He instructs her on how to cook it properly and wished her good luck. Curious, little Pomni digs the jar out with her bare hands (because the dirt is really soft) and she decides to hide it from her uncles. If they find it, they’ll probably eat it and something bad might happen. She runs inside the house and to her room. It doesn’t have a lot of things in it, except for a rag doll, a gummy alligator, a king chess piece, a tragedy mask and some red ribbon, a purple bunny plushie, and a box full of random toy parts. Pomni trips on a broken floorboard and drops the jar of crocodile tongues. It breaks open and most of it spills onto her stuff. She tries to grab them (the crocodile tongues) but they’re already out of sight. She even saw a few actually crawl out of her window and towards the old ancient peach tree that was in the garden. With a bleeding foot and tears on her face, Pomni climbs onto her bed and decides to clock in for the day.

The next day, Pomni wakes up to find all her stuff gone! But she doesn’t have time to look for them, because her uncles are making a commotion outside. The ancient peach tree which hasn’t been able to grow a single peach in its entire lifetime, has started growing a peach that kept getting bigger and bigger and BIGGER. At first, Pomni’s uncles planned on eating it but then they decided to show it off to everyone else. Pomni was forbidden from going outside during the open house though, and was locked in her room. At night, her uncles send her out to clean up the mess (but they gave her an eaten chocolate bar to give her some energy). While cleaning, she noticed a hole inside the giant peach and went inside it. She climbed through the long passageway before she got to the seed, where a door was carved into it. She opened it and you can all guess what happened next. If you can’t, I’ll tell you anyway. Pomni saw all of her stuff inside the seed room, but they were much bigger and taller than her, and they seemed…ALIVE. Zooble notices her and welcomes her in the crew. Then Jax asks her to go through his endless wardrobe and get him his black leather jacket, and Pomni was way too scared to protest. He explains that he had gained sentience only 13 hours ago and the others chime in. Pomni tells everyone about the crocodile tongues and everyone’s weirdly calm with that. Once Pomni finds Jax’s black leather jacket, she gives it to him, and some rough banter between him and Kinger ensue. Gummigoo then noticed Pomni’s wounded foot and offers to patch that up for her. He takes out the tiny splinters, cleans the wound, and then bandages it with some gauze. Pomni is very grateful for his kindness and decides that she likes Gummigoo, as well as Jax because his snarky personality was entertaining. Then everyone goes to sleep, with Zooble making the beds by knitting string.

The next day, Pomni wakes up with the group cheering and hyping Jax up. Ragatha explains that Jax has razor-sharp teeth and he’s currently gnawing away at the stem that kept the giant peach from rolling off the hill. Pomni didn’t want to leave her uncles behind, since she didn’t really hate them, but decided to stay inside the room instead of leaving. Ragatha offers to carry her so she wouldn’t fall when the peach starts rolling, and Pomni agrees. She liked being held by her new friend, it reminded her of her late mother. Though the holding thing didn’t work, because when Jax finally broke the stem, the peach started rolling down the hill and the first thing Pomni did was fall out of Ragatha’s arms. Meanwhile, her uncles didn’t even seem to notice that she hadn’t returned last night and were just counting their money. When the peach started rolling, they were instantly crushed (R.I.P).

And the rest is pretty much what happens in the original book! I’m not good at drawing, so I’ll give you key design details if you ever want to make fanart of this AU.

Jax has a little tuff of hair at the top of his head and he wears a simple black leather jacket over his overalls (you can give him sharp teeth too if you wanna stick to the razor-sharp teeth thing)

Zooble has a bit of a darker color scheme, with more purples, blues, and blacks. It doesn’t have to be specific, she does canonically mix and match.

Here’s a little fun fact: Pomni’s uncles are based off Chad and Max, Gummigoo’s friends (and apparently brothers according to the wiki). They’re not maliciously evil so I made them chill but they are kinda supposed to be problematic so I made them extremely neglectful.

List of canon changes in my au.

So I did a post something similar to this one about how my au is different from the canon but this time it going to less structure and more rant like. I am not trying to compare my au to the neatherrealm timeline or trying to be a better writer than NRS just making an au for fun.

.Kind of a change to my au (I kind of forgot what I did previously with the timeline.) This follows the event similarly to the original timeline but only the arcade era and after that it sort of stagnates a little bit into being a fusion of mkx and deception but that not set in stone. Different factors from different timelines will be implemented depending on how much I like them.

. Raiden is more based on the 95 movie raiden and dotr raiden

.Kenshi joined the special forces much earlier and did so out personal reasons with his mother side of the family being held captive by the black dragon through the yakuza

.Johnny and Sonya are married permanently. The did just get married because Sonya was pregnant but the did fall in love while having Cassie. It was messy trying to raise her as either had any experience dealing with kids but they learned along the way

Amazing Digital Cryptids!!

In this AU, the human world is inhabited by cryptids, and humans are determined to hunt them down for profit or publicity. But since these creatures are so elusive, they have to find a way to locate them first. And that's where our first character comes in.

Caine

Caine is a creature specifically bred by humans to help them seek out other cryptids. His bowtie has a hidden camera so they can follow him around and capture footage. But Caine isn't aware of any of this at all. Some cryptids (like Kaufmo and Queenie) notice how human attacks get more frequent after Caine came around, and figure out he's basically a spy. So they start to bury underground and get extremely hostile towards anything and everything (this is this AUs version of abstraction). But Caine just likes to get to know other creatures, and fly around and cuddle Kinger

Kinger

Kinger is a giant centipede-like creature, and he is very friendly, gentle and curious. Most other cryptids are intimidated by him at first, but only because of his sheer size. He enjoys crawling through the woods and watching all the different critters. The fluff around his neck and on his back is incredibly soft, and the other cryptids like cuddling into it. Kinger doesn't mind, and even enjoys it, but sometimes he forgets when others are laying on him and gets startled. It was originally his and Caine's idea to stick together, and over time, other creatures start to join their little group.

Zooble

Zooble is basically a shape shifting creature, but they're cursed to never have matching limbs or wings. Because of their appearance, they're avoided by other creatures, so they're a loner and don't care about anyone. But they soon open up when they join the group.

Gangle

Gangle is a shy snake cat thing. She becomes closest and most comfortable with Zooble, but also often hides in Kinger's fluff, mostly from Jax. She can coil up like a snake and often loafs like a cat. She's suspicious of any creature that joins their group at first, but comes around to them eventually. Even if Jax keeps bullying her.

Ragatha

Ragatha acts as the moral support of the group, trying to keep everyone together. She's friendly, and is always there to comfort others. The scars and stitches all around her body are from attacks from other creatures, or even human traps. I like to believe Kinger and Caine found her injured and healed her up, and she stuck around since then. The snakes on her head are very curious and affectionate, they don't bite and they're not venomous. I feel like she used to be afraid of Kinger at first (seeing that he's a centipede), but became used to him quickly.

Jax

Oh boy, Jax. I couldn't think of much for him so he's basically a Jackalope / Wolpertinger. Just that his limbs are really long, and i gave him a seemingly endless pouch where he stores various things and food. Basically cartoon character logic. He likes bullying and scaring others for fun, especially Gangle and Kinger because of their reactions. I accidentally made him more horror AU looking, but oh well.

Pomni

Pomni is a human who recently got turned into a cryptid, hence why she's still wearing clothes. She is understandably confused, and wants to return to her life and humanity, but she can't. Some creatures see her as a threat, and humans would hunt her down, and she doesn't know what to do. And that's when she comes across the group, who take her in. She becomes most comfortable with Ragatha, who keeps her spirits up during this strange and confusing time.

Idea 💡 ✍️:

What if Superman was severely injured after Doomsday (or other event) and had to be taken to Kandor for emergency healing?

Thing is, because of the extent of his injuries and the limited resources that need to be prioritized, he had to stay in Kandor for the foreseeable future.

Luthor, impatient as hell, sets out to find Superman. He’s used connections, hacking, blackmail, & he still can’t find the blasted alien. He finally turns to magic and gets a lead.

He finally found out about Kandor and spies on it. Luthor finds Superman basically acting like if Clark had actually lived on Kandor. He sees Kal undergoing painful basic treatments that are used to teach medical students because Kal wanted to make sure the more advanced tech was ready to be used in case of an emergency (think severe scarring on a majority of his body).

In the meantime, he spends his time learning of Krypton (at times struggling with a culture he was born into but not raised in) and teaching about Earth (he speaks so fondly of it), he has to deal with a very flirty former Phantom Zone prisoner on parole: Jax-Ur, the Kryptonian equivalent of Lex Luthor.

A (not smitten by Superman’s human side that loves both of his homes and peoples and most certainly NOT jealous of the suave genius courting Superman) Lex Luthor assembled a team that successfully breaks into Kandor and sneaks under the radar.

Unfortunately, he did not account for the Kryptonian version of Batman & Robin: Nightwing & Flamebird. Two people whose identities allow them to know EXACTLY who Lex luthor is and what he’s done to Kal.

Suffice to say, members of the House of El, whether or not they bare that name, have a LOW opinion of Lex Luthor. Especially Don-El, who is the Head of the Kryptonian Police.

How will Lex Luthor manage to avoid the scrutiny of those belonging to an advanced culture to claim his prize?

Pomni plays digimon survive chapter 2 part 1

*We tune in to what the others are doing. Walking through the forest with out any directions. Which soon get interrupted by Flora and lopmon. Who were being chase by gotsumon. Has they started running Pomni open her eyes stretching a bit has she went out side. She had a talk with Agumon about what happen and worried about the next fight it would happen. The rest then woken up which we had a talk about some things. After going back inside such has about the fog.*

Ok the fog just has to many questions and we have to deal with food and such first.

*Minoru talked about searching for others and such. Aoi wanted to stay and just search for food while Ryo says do nothing. Due to the others still out there and needing all the help we could get. She agreed with Minoru on searching for them. Has that was cleared up has everyone left. Pomni check to see if the power and lights worked at the place. Seemingly not so decided to use different sources of light like there phones. She went to check on the others and found that the place plumbing works still so clean drinking water, Minoru was able to get food so that good. While Ryo made sure if the phones are down or not. With the pile of stuff we have it was good to last a bit. But being who knows how long better to stack up more. Definitely for her sake being someone her size need a lot of food. She went with Aoi to search for some but no luck but Agumon did find some healing items so there that. Minoru on the other hand has found quite a bit such has cudweed. They also found some mushroom that the kemogami like but were not edible for humans. After a depressing talk with Ryo. We found food in the gym. Some were in the emergency food stores. Minoru tried some to see if it was good. And played it up. After telling him to knock off. Nab that move is something Jax would do.*

At least his nicer than Jax at least.

*We learn that the other has gotten her so we opted to search for them except Ryo. But he still came. We decided that we should split in teams of two to search so to cover some ground and after some searching they found the professor being surrounded by gizamon. She went to talk them being how they were talking. Maybe she can reason with them.

Here you go. It is going to take place when Mooz first arrived into the Digital World. Hope you don't mind if my oc does appear in this.

A new being popped up onto a stage, suddenly looking around in a state of confusion and panic. Music was playing while a bunch of objects floated around. The being quickly dodged the objects while backing away.

However, he soon found himself accidentally bumping into someone. The being jumped as he watched a purple jackrabbit in magenta overalls, a tall, white king chess piece in a purple robe, and a ribbon-like creature stumble down. The ribbon creature's comedy mask broke, revealing her tragedy face.

The music stopped as everyone turned to look at the being. "Caine, is this one of your NPCs or is this a new sucker?" The jackrabbit asked. "Because if it's a new character, we're gonna have to redo this whole theme song." He had a rather mischievous grin on his face.

"I'm not doing that again," A mix-and-match toy said to the jackrabbit, her arms crossed while she looked unamused.

"Serious, newbie…" A humanoid wax figurine stared at the being. "Please be careful next time. Do you have any idea as to how long it took for us to rehearse that?" She placed her hands on her hips.

"Calm down, snow princess~." The jackrabbit said her, grinning.

"Uh, who are you people?" The being asked. "Where exactly am I?"

"Take it easy, new stuff," A ragdoll said. "We've all been there on our first day of coming here. But you eventually get used to this."

"My, my!" A floating AI whose "face" resembled teeth flew down to the being. "It appears that a new human has entered this realm! And what is your name!?"

"My name…?" The being tried to say something. But then he realized that he couldn't remember his real name. "I-I can't remember! Why?"

"Nobody remembers their name when they arrive here," A being in a yellow clown outfit said. "I'm Kaufmo, by the way. Perhaps I can help you pick out a name?"

"Uh, sure?" The being asked. "What name do you have in mind, Kaufmo?"

"How about…Mooz?" Kaufmo suggested.

"Mooz?" The jackrabbit scoffed. "Is that all you could come up with, Kaufy?"

"Shut it, Jax!" The mix-and-match toy said, glaring at Jax before turning to Mooz. "But welcome to your new home, Mooz… Zooble, by the way… Over there is Gangle…" She nodded to the ribbonoid creature. "…Kinger…" Next to her was the white king chess piece. "…And Ragatha." She nodded at the ragdoll. "Crystal must have left to go guard." She noticed that the aformentioned wax figurine had left.

"I see you met Kaufmo," Ragatha said. "Maybe he can introduce you to the others." A smile was on her face.

"My comedy mask is broken," Gangle sobbed.

"GAH!" Kinger yelped at the sight of Gangle before calming himself down. "Oh, Gangle! You startled me!"

Time went by for Mooz. He had gotten used to how things worked around in the Digital World. Plus, he and Kaufmo became the bestest of friends.

The two did everything together. Whether it would be something as simple as cracking jokes or doing one of Caine's in-house adventures, they always had fun.

Life in the Digital World was fun for them. Until one evening, Mooz decided to ask his friend something.

"Kaufmo, as crazy as this may sound, do you believe that there's an exit?" Mooz asked.

Kaufmo went silent for a bit. He thought about it rather deeply. "Huh, up until now, I never gave it much thought," Kaufmo admitted. "I would ask Caine, but you know how he is. However, if it makes you feel better, I can try to find out if there really is one."

"You mean this wholeheartedly?" Mooz asked.

"You bet!" Kaufmo flashed a smile. "That's what friends are for!"

(Present)

Mooz now stood in front of the door to Kaufmo's now vacant room. The only difference was that his friend's face now had a red x over it. He only visited this place whenever nobody else was around.

"Hey, Kaufmo," Mooz softly said to himself. "Though, I know you're no longer here, I just wanted to tell you about this new member. Her name is Pomni. She's a bit shaken up, but if you had met her, you would have helped her get used to things around here."

He gave a sad sigh, slight regret appearing on his face. Why did he have ask Kaufmo about an exit? After asking, his clown friend became determined to find one. And at the cost of his sanity.

The day that Pomni arrived was also the day that Kaufmo abstracted. And to think that Ragatha was looking forward to introducing him to Pomni…

Maybe if he hadn't said anything about an exit, Kaufmo would still be here. The majority of his friends have since been abstracted for the same reason and are now in the cellar.

"I'll miss you always, Kaufmo." Mooz turned around to face away from the door. "There may be a day where we will be reunited. Along with our other friends. If possible, I look forward to it. I'll keep smiling and making others for you, my best friend."

Without another word, Mooz walked down the hallway, leaving Kaufmo's door behind.

The Amazing Digital Circus: Human Games

So I want to throw my hat into the ring of TADC AUs so... here's the start of an idea. Please tell me know if you like this! ^-^

Pomni pulled at her jester hat as she spiralled. This place was breaking her. Day after day after day after day. She's already lost so much to this damned digital circus and yet it still takes more and more from her until she abstracts.

The only remotely good thing that came out of this was her friends(?) that try to help in their own ways. Ragatha somehow didn't hate her after she left her for dead at the abstracted Kaufmo's hands (well he didn't really have hands but that's not the point). Instead she's the first to ask Pomni how's she's feeling. Gangle has been showing Pomni her art and excitingly explain about her favourite animes. Zooble lets Pomni chill out in their room when Pomni needs space to keep an eye on her. Kinger has invited Pomni on bug collecting adventures and occasionally a game of chess. Even f#&%ing Caine and Bubble have tried to be accommodating in their terrible but earnest way.

There is just one person who gets on everyone's nerves, including hers.

"Hey Jester, you mind jesting me?"

Pomni looked up to see the lanky rabbit learing over her. Jax was smirking and looking down on her as she's hunched into a ball near the stage. Everyone else is off doing their own thing so it's just them here.

"Can you just leave me alone for once?" Pomni asked as she lookedat her knees.

"And miss one of your entertaining spirals? I don't think so Pom-pom."

"Ha... ha ha... hahahahahahaha. HAHAHA... HA... I get it now." Pomni giggled as her mind unravelled slightly.

"Oh?"

Pomni stood up and looked at Jax with hateful pity.

"I'm fine with doing whatever. As long as I get to see funny things happen to people, that's what you said the day we met."

"Yeah? Congrats on remembering but I'm not following your blatant insanity." Jax said as he leaned back and tilted his head, curious.

"You need us. You would break without us."

Jax looked confused before he started laughing.

"Pfft! You really have lost your marbles! I don't need you nutcases for anything."

"You don't like Caine's games. Be being awful and seeing our reactions you stay sane. By causing real reactions from real people you become real."

"Isn't that a bit dramatic? If you're abstracting then can you buzz off because I don't want to deal with that."

"..." Pomni ignored him and just smiled with scribbled out eyes.

"Welp, enjoy your raging insanity. I'll go find someone more funny than you clown." Jax said as he walked away.

When Jax left Pomni had an idea.

"Would it be a bad thing to get Jax off of his f#&%ing high horse?... Nah."

Once Pomni had a clever idea she went to find Caine.

After calling out his name three times Pomni found Caine behind the curtains of the stage with Bubble.

"Ah! Hello Pomni! How is your permanent stay going?" Caine asked.

"It's... fine. Caine, can we talk? I have an idea for an adventure. "

"Of course Pomni! I'm all ears!"

"Not really. You're all eyes-" Bubble said before Caine popped Bubble.

"Yeah... so you are aware that Jax doesn't find your adventures very fun, right?"

"I... am aware of it. He gets quite bored or even destructive when he participates at times. You humans are quite confusing with how differently you all respond to my adventures."

"Well... I got something I want to try out that Jax might like."

"Gazooks! Pomni I haven't seen you be so invested in any of my adventures like this before! Now I'm dying to know what your amazing idea is!"

"Well, I think Jax is probably missing being human, so why don't we play some... human games. Let me explain..."

Gast is a very shy boy who seems to have no presence. When he's at school, he's frequently ignored where people don't even notice he's standing right in front of them. He doesn't mind that since he's a worried, anxious, and shy young man.

Being a new student, no one really even knows who he is either. However, he ends up seeing the group when they're exiting a rift and after seeing other strange events like this, asks the group if he could be protected by them.

Cassie is extremely willing to help him out and he joins the group!

Because of his low presence, they often use Gast to get things they would otherwise be seen trying to obtain. Gast is also very sensitive to emotions and because of that has a fear of animals since they're more emotion based than humans or other species.

Neither Cassie nor Larson were very concerned about the individual, but they felt differently about how to handle him having seen them.

Jax was more level headed and tried to think of the situation as rationally as he could.

“You g-guys are freaks!” The boy started to breathe very heavily. Taking in audible, quick, and deep breaths while holding his chest.

“Woah, calm down…” Jax tried to ease him. “Can you tell us your name at least?”

His eyes shut tight, but he spoke. “A-abel…” He seemed to be getting worse with his erratic breathing and unsteady feet.

Jax continued his efforts and told him to sit down. Abel now sat inside Jax’s car while catching his breath.

The trio then moved to stand around him. With how everything seemed, they needed to make a decision sooner rather than later. However, that wasn't going to happen while the boy remained in his state of distress.

Cassie stayed a bit away from him in order to give him some breathing room and no one said anything. They let him calm down and soon he seemed to be getting better.

At this, Cassie spoke up. “Are you good now?”

“A bit better…” He managed to say. “But that’s all.” He paused looking up. “B-but, still, can you guys tell me what’s g-going on?”

“What do you mean by that?” Larson asked.

“Like, you guys going into that… thing o-over there and coming out like two minutes later!”

“It was really two minutes?” Cassie turned and asked Jax.

Jax smiled. “That’s a good base to start with, but I’d still like to get a real timer and make a proper conversion.”

“What are you guys talking about?” Abel asked.

“Nothing, but if you’re really curious, answer my question first and you’ll get your answer?” Larson said. Abel said nothing and he went on. “Why did you follow us?”

Abel took a small pause and lowered his head slightly. “While you’re right that I was kind of… s-stalking you guys. I only was because you guys turned down that girl who’s been bothering me!”

“You mean that kind of promiscuous girl?” Cassie spoke.

Larson scoffed. “I think you mean a slu-”

“I’ll kill you if you say that Lars.” He clicked his tongue and didn’t speak. “But her?” Cassie asked, returning her attention to Abel.

“Yeah… her name is Mandy and ever since I got here, she won’t leave me alone.” He let out an uncomfortable moan. “She finds me wherever I am, no matter how hard I try to avoid her. On that day when you guys were with your dog in the park, she found me there as well! Then, I saw you guys talking and she left and hasn't bothered me since then.” He explained. “I just kind of… want that to continue.” His voice dropped off by the end.

“Why?” Jax asked.

“Because! I-I just don’t want people getting too c-close to me… I-I’m not the type of person who likes a lot of attention, I just wanna be left alone...” His voice trailed as he went on and his head dropped with every word.

“But we’re fine?” Larson seemed unconvinced.

Abel tried to defend himself. “I-it’s a lot better than having a g-girl who n-never knows when to leave you alone,” Abel said, “p-plus, like I said; I saw you guys go in that thing and… and that's not the weirdest thing I’ve seen since I got here! I saw a guy lift up a boulder with o-one finger and I figured he was just like you guys and I-” He began to breathe heavily again.

Cassie crouched down and gave him a soft smile. “Hey, you don’t have to tell us, okay?” He looked at her. “I can believe you, and I think I know what you’re asking of us.”

“Huh?” Abel said as Cassie returned to standing normally.

“You want to be our friend!” Everyone just stared at her. “I know you all are staring at me like I’m crazy, but screw all of you ‘cause I know I’m right.” She snapped at their silence. “Whether you like it or not, the only way we can protect you from all these dangerous things going around is for you to be our friend.” Cassie turned back and gave the biggest smile she could to Jax and Larson. “Alright?”

“I should be impressed,” Larson said, “it only took you seconds to decide something this time.”

“See? I’m getting better aren’t I?”

“More like worse.”

Cassie frowned. “What did you say?”

Cassie and Larson began to bicker while Jax just returned to Abel. “Do you mind accepting her offer? Cassie’s a hard one to turn down.”

Abel’s eyes fixed on them, he felt himself calm down seeing as how none of them were totally fixated on him. “I don’t know if I should trust you guys yet or not.”

Jax smiled. “At the very least, if Cassie says it, it’s a given. So if she wants you to be her friend, then it means we all agree.”

Abel looked up at Jax before letting out a sigh. “I’m… alright being friends with you all… that is if I really can?”

Jax smiled. “Like I said, it’s a given if Cassie says so.” Jax then looked up in thought. “But I would’ve waited if I were you.”

Abel's eyes widened. “H-huh? Why?”

Jax laughed. “I’m kidding.”

Abel let out a sigh and relaxed as the pair went on arguing...

I have three different “routes”/versions of Wendy for the Carnival AU and they’re finally bursting out of my chest after being in containment for so long!

“Canon”! Wendy: Wendy is an AI with their own level just like the rest of the cast. Wendy and Jax’s relationship goes back to the early days of sentience, before they started losing their minds. Unlike the other characters, Wendy refused to leave Jax all alone. Just like in canon, cartoon violence is something of a love language between these two. Jax and Wendy are “Crazy in Love” (sorry I had to ;D) and fully adore one another. Wendy’s like “Free my man he did all of that stuff but he’s my specialest boy ever”. Jax can be in the middle of a vivisection and it’s like a switch has flipped when Wendy comes in: “Hi Baby. What can I do for ya? How’s my Pretty Little Clown? <333”

Player! Wendy: Enemies-to-Lovers. Wendy is a player who gets sucked into the game like Caine and Able. Wendy and Jax start out as enemies, with Jax trying to kill any player who enters and Wendy going “No thanks I choose life”. As time passes with Wendy stuck in the game, they begin to explore the levels more outside of their main games and get to know the bosses better. Despite everything, Wendy actually starts to sympathize with Jax the more they learn about him; he’s trapped in a world where he constantly lives with the possibility of being violently reset and has spent years being isolated instead of anyone trying to help him. Wendy starts leaving things like food and puzzles and art supplies whenever they replay his level. Jax is frustrated, thinking that Wendy’s just trying to win his favor so he won’t kill them. “Newsflash asshole: If that was the goal, I wouldn’t be coming back in the first place.” I imagine they even have a Beauty and the Beast moment like where they’re arguing while Wendy patches Jax up after he’s just saved them. They begin to form a weird truce, where they banter while Jax tries (but makes sure he doesn’t actually succeed) to kill Wendy while they try to win his level. Their banter takes on a flirty tone and they’re both left with the awkward realization that “Oh shit they’re actually pretty cute I think I’ve just found my type”. Jax claims Wendy as ‘his’ human and officially moves them in with him. They start to really fall in love. Jax becomes pretty clingy with Wendy, both out of possessiveness and wanting to protect them from the other dangers of the deteriorated Carnival. Wendy doesn’t mind- far from it, actually- but sometimes worries that Jax likes having them as his more than he likes them. But they manage to make it work, with Wendy not fearing Jax and Jax respecting Wendy’s personhood. Pomni and Caine are VERY concerned for Wendy when they first find them in Jax’s level and assume that it’s an abusive situation Wendy needs to be rescued from. They realize that Jax genuinely loves and respects Wendy as his partner either when Wendy asks Jax to spare them and he listens OR when Wendy simply helps the pair themself and stands up for them all when Jax catches them; they realize that Wendy is fine when 1) they argue with Jax on Caine + Pomni’s behalf without any trace of fear, and 2) Jax, despite being royally pissed off, actually listens to Wendy and debates with them as an equal before relenting and letting Caine and Pomni go. 

Beta Tester! Wendy: Wendy worked at the company as one of the beta testers for the game and actually saw the characters become sentient. Jax was always Wendy’s favorite level, and they became good friends after Jax gained sentience. As their friendship grew, they began to fall in love and even built a romance together. When Jax first started lashing out at players, he actually begged Wendy to stay away, scared of hurting them too. But Wendy was determined to figure out what was wrong and help him. Even though Jax never hurt Wendy, it became clear that it was too dangerous for him to be alone with other players. Wendy desperately tries to stay with Jax but is eventually fired when they start digging a little too deep. When Wendy finally finds their way back, things are like they are in the present, and they’re actually scared that Jax won’t even recognize them. But through a mix of what memories haven’t been fucked up and his old tapes, Jax remembers Wendy, and they have a tearful reunion. Jax is even more possessive of Wendy, terrified of losing them again.

One constant across all of these AUs is that Wendy is the only person who can convince Jax to spare other players and dissuade him from violence.
