On the Subject of Nightingales

Soooo... since I've dived straight and gleefully down the rabbithole of Good Omens fan theories, I found something of a gem that gives me hope for season 3.

[Note: I am aware that, at this time, production has been paused pending the involvement of Neil Gaiman, so no need to bring that up. It'll unfold in due time.]

I watched a fan analysis by YouTuber Sendarya, who, via tumblr user @daria-meoi, made a fascinating connection between the song we've come to know as their song and the end credits of S2 E6 (links to both vids posted below). Take a moment to watch them both and come back...

Inspired by a comment in one of these videos (sorry, can't remember exactly which one or else I'd find the commentor's name and give allllll the credit), it seems as though that final smile from Zira implies that the wheels in his head are churning. He's coming up with a plan. Will it work? Maybe. Will he do everything in his power to make it work? You bet your tartan-bowtie-wearing ass he will.

This particular string of thought was kicked off by the aforementioned comment, which led me to the exchange between Zira and Nina during the demon attack:

"Why don't you stand up for yourself, make your own plan?" (or something to that effect)

"Oh I am, but rescuing me makes him so happy."

HMMMMMM....

Since we're already pretty sure the major plot line of S3 is going to be the Second Coming- yet another end-of-the-world attempt by H&H- it stands to reason that Zira, as Supreme Archangel, is gonna go full-blown Lawful-but-Chaotic Good™ and attempt to thwart the Second Coming in such a way that Hell will have to step in. Kinda like they did in S1, which is, in a roundabout way, how Gabriel & Beez got together in the first place.

Whoever's in charge of hell now could tap Crowley to make sure things go "as planned," even if he is half the reason Armageddon didn't happen. Why? Because they likely know that he & Zira aren't on good terms, and- in their narrow understanding of love- believe Crowley'd be perfectly happy to bring down his ex-boyfriend Supreme Archangel Aziraphale. Knowing Zira better than anyone, and "hating" him now, Hell thinks Crowley will know just what to do to get Zira to either stand down or fall in the trying.

I do admit this is a bit of a stretch, seeing as how Crowley is not only retired but well and totally fed up with Hell's shit. But Zira was retired too, and now he's the Archangel-fucking-Aziraphale. And since we, the audience, know about the pain & heartbreak Crowley's going through, he may just accept such an offer as an excuse to see Zira again. Or, depending on what's happening, if Crowley thinks Zira's in trouble, he'll come for him. Broken heart, bitterness, & soul-deep pain aside, he'll come for him. How that particular exchange would go... oh ho HO, I have plehhhhnty of ideas. Not all of them end well. But some of them do.

Zira's not stupid. Naive, yes, maybe even a bit gullible thanks to all that Heaven-induced trauma, but not out-and-out stupid. He's got schemes, and he'll carry them out to the best of his angelic ability. After all, he's just someone who goes along with Heaven... as far as he can.

Laudna tries to work out if this is THE Ludinus or just SNOWdinus ... no idea ... okay, she tries something COMPLETELY untested on him now ... she conjures up the spirit of Vess Dorogna as Spirit of Death to attack him ... only for him to Counterspell ... so she just Counterspells RIGHT BACK?!!! Ashton takes a passing swipe at the engine ... 22 points of damage ... oh shit ... it just slowed to s stop! He takes one more swing ... 23 points and it is SHATTERED!!! Nice ...

Imogen runs as close as she can to the gate, tries to grab holdo of Ludinus with Telekinesis ... and he FAILS to save, but instead uses his Legendary Resistance to wipe it off instead! Asshole ... so she Lightning Bolts him at 7th Level instead ... most of the damage is deflected, but she still deals 12 points ... it's something, at least ...

Tevan charges in to attack Dominox, misses his first hit but catches the second ... oh, and it's the KILL hit? The live audience goes NUTS ... Matt: "How do I wanna do this?" He carves the demon in two and it just ASHES ...

Orym runs up the wall and then uses Grasping Vine to swing himself up behind Ludinus ... Pushing attack! 18 damage and he fails his save so Ludinus is SHOVED towards the gate! Ludinus drops the gate so Orym just attacks him hard with his sword instead ... come on, Wee Man! Kill this bitch!

Ludinus flies into the tunnel just past Chetney, then turns back to face them all ...

Another hilarious product of Russia's desperation

Something that makes me hysterically happy is internationally, governments and intelligence agencies the world over are scrutinizing and able to watch Russia flail about desperately, looking, hoping, PRAYING that by being less stealthy or Spy Game, they can somehow pull out a win in Ukraine.

They're uprooting what has been a century or more of imperialist Russosupremacist networks across countries, families and generations across cultures and regions of earth, historic tie-ins to governments, just, showing the guts of everything.. just to push more meat onto the Ukrainian front lines.

And in doing so, it gives intelligence agencies and spies the opportunity to go "hmmmmmm!" and investigate and research that shit.

They're able to see connections Russia had that they didn't even know about while the imperialistic totalitarian ambitions of Putin pull them in the hopes of pulling out a win. It's like a man tied to a boulder by his pubic hair being yanked out a window.

What inspired this post was that the US intelligence agencies have uncovered the Kremlin has been turning to shills on youtube and twitter, not just bots or ads, to push their talking points. The state department has been monitoring cash transfer to these people.

They can see people selling out to the Kremlin, in real time.

I was tagged by @dangerously-human like a month ago I'm so sorry for a fanfic writer tag game, and I finally remembered that I never actually did it!! I'm so bad at these things

1. How did you get into writing fanfiction? I was like 13 I think and I had become a rabid fan of the 2012 TMNT series, and I filled a brightly colored notebook with self-insert TMNT fanfic. 😂 What's funny is that at this time, I didn't even know that the concept of fanfiction existed, and that it was something other people wrote as well. Because I had very little online presence at the time (thank God), so I had no exposure to fanfiction in general. I just thought, "Okay I know this is totally crazy but what I put myself in this story and I was a teenage mutant ninja black panther and Leo was in love with me." I was truly a revolutionary. I didn't discover the massive presence of fanfiction online until about three years later I think, and that was when I started reading Gravity Falls and Miraculous Ladybug fanfics on fanfiction dot net.

2. How many fandoms have you written in? Good question. I haven't published everything for every fandom that I've written in, so some of these just exist in a locked vault inside my brain or in a long abandoned OpenOffice document. Or in a brightly colored houndstooth-patterned notebook. 3. How many years have you been writing fanfiction? This is difficult because I haven't been writing fanfiction consistently for very many years at all, but I started writing fanfic like 10 years ago. Somewhat consistently? Like two years. 😂

4. Do you read or write more fanfiction? Very much depends on where I'm at in life and what media I'm currently fixated on, but for a while I've been writing way more than I've been reading. I go through phases of both.

5. What is one way you've improved as a writer? I think my pacing is a lot better than it used to be. I think I've gotten better at rereading what I've written and recognizing where the pacing is off. I often don't have an easy time of fixing it yet, because it's such an odd and abstract concept to nail down, but you can see it when it's wrong. Something I've tried to be very intentional about of late.

6. What's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project? The legal repercussions of assaulting a police officer in Michigan. That was for the Detroit: Become Human fic. 😂

7. What's your favorite type of comment to receive on your work? I LOVE when people pick up on my foreshadowing and start theorizing on various story elements that I haven't revealed yet. That basically only happens with And I Would Stay A While Longer because it's the only one of my fics with a significant amount of intrigue, but it makes me so happy seeing those comments. I love knowing that I've foreshadowed something effectively.

8. What's the most fringe trope/topic you write about? Hmmmmmm . . . is it fringe to write fanfic for a dnd campaign? That's probably the closest thing I have to fringe honestly. And as for fringe tropes, I'm not really sure that my fanfics feature many. My original work, on the other hand . . .

9. What is the hardest type of story for you to write? Stories with large casts, where I have to keep track of a lot of characters. That's exhausting. I don't like it. 😂 I like my stories very intimate. My writing is very character-focused rather than plot-focused, and I like to reserve that focus to as few characters as possible. One of my original works only features two characters throughout the entire story and that's it.

10. What is the easiest type? Intimate, fluffy oneshots. Emotional fulfillment fics. Unsurprisingly.

11. Where do you do your writing? What platform? Back in the day I started out with OpenOffice, then I jumped to Google Docs, then I jumped to Microsoft Word, and that's where I'm at right now. I own Scrivener and I very much want to use it but it intimidates me and I am so bad at learning new software/word processors. 😭

12. What is something that you've been too nervous/intimidated to write, but would love to write one day? The rest of AIWS 🤣 No but seriously, funny story, I had plans for YEARS to write my own version of Haymitch's Games from The Hunger Games because Haymitch is my favorite character and I was desperate for more of his story, so I compiled a whole document of everything we learned about the 50th Quarter Quell and Haymitch and his family/friends, and that document sat untouched for so long because I was too intimidated to try to write the story . . . and then of course the news came out that Suzanne Collins herself is writing it. And I couldn't be happier. 😂

13. What made you choose your username? My AO3 username is Fox_Autumn. I nicknamed myself after Fox Mulder, and I needed another word to stick on the end of that to make it a valid username. I love autumn, and I thought it sounded pretty so there ya have it.

4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw

if we're talking characters subz is the hardest member of eclipse to draw because his skin has too many elements and leaves way less room for interpretation than zam or vitalasy... so it's not even that he's hard to draw (i had a harder time settling on a vi design by far) but he's less FUN to draw because i wouldn't ever design a character with most of those elements if i was left to my own accord. they call me the guy with hyper-specific aesthetic priorities

SUBJECTS in general... i have a hard time with expressions/facial features so i'm almost never happy with how they come out and it makes me not want to look back at the art. but that means it's very satisfying when i AM happy with them . i'm quite pleased with these zams because i like how i drew his face although now i realize they are both eyes closed smiling. this is because my favorite parts of expressions to do are like, the way the brow wrinkles, or how the nose gets scrunched up when you smile

12. Easiest part of body to draw

lately legs... i love drawing legs i enjoy the shapes. it's like there's a contour line running down the middle of the leg from the knee to the big toe and noticing this made it so easy & fun to draw legs from basically any angle. shoutout to arms also. big fan of limbs

26. What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation from what you intended

HMMMMMM this is an interesting question... i can't think of anything that was Super out of left field. sometimes i get "awwww cute" on something i'm going for more drama or tension with which always amuses me like wow... maybe it is cute ^_^ and sometimes people point out cool details or thematic stuff i didn't do on purpose at all which is a satisfying feeling. the most interesting might be any time i show my art to somebody irl or who has no context for the conventions of digital art in general let alone the specifics of the characters i draw because it's a good gauge for how well something reads on its own merits

1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?

So, I looked for Astarion fics early on and saw a lot of Astarion/Halsin, Astarion/player and general pairings I wasn't super interested in, or scenarios I wasn't very interested in. I tried a few, didn't bookmark any, and was like 'hmmm, I expected some more angsty fics for Astarion.' At the time - which to be fair was quite some time ago and the fandom has grown since - everything biased towards very fluffy, or very dark, but where Astarion had the power and was the top, and it was just not quite what I was looking for.

I knew I wanted to do something with Astarion, but I didn't ship him with anyone. I don't ship him with Gale, I didn't want to write an Astarion/player fic, I don't ship him with Halsin, etc. (I am playing an Astarion/Gale run now, but mostly because I enjoy their bitchiness and not because I truly ship them). But when we started spending more time with Raphael I started thinking 'hmmMMMM WHAT IF....'

I looked for fics, there was like 3 at the time (literally, mine is the fourth in the rarepair on AO3), and it was like 'well.... ehhh.... we'll see.' At this point I knew what Astarion's endings were - good and bad, according to Larian - and I didn't like either of them. I was kind of salty in advance that some companions get very clear cut happy endings, and others get sort of...shafted either way. And around that time I was like well... if we take Astarion's 'good' ending (according to Larian) and then actually give him the things I wanted him to have at the end (sans my player character, because I don't like player/X fics), then I could do something with that.

I knew I was shipping him with Raphael, but I actually spent a fairly long time thinking about how to solve the sunlight issue, and what Raphael would want in exchange for that, and how much that would actually matter to him, and why he would offer something like that, and what that would mean for a run where he was killed. I made a lot of thorny choices early on, like killing off Hope (she survives in my run) so Raphael could return to the House of Hope, etc.

But yeah! Basically a very classic 'once more fandom wasn't delivering a weird specific niche thing I wanted in any pairing, so I found a weird rarepair that almost no one was writing, and decided to do what I wanted in that little corner' scenario + 'I love BG3 as a game but fuck what they did with Astarion's character right at the end, I'm going to make a third ending just for me.'

...I'm both really stubborn and pretty weird actually when it comes to writing fanfiction *hangs head*

I'm just kind of obsessed with Astarion, he's a very specific kind of character 'type' for me (he gives me Felix Harrowgate from Doctrine of Labyrinths vibes and frankly I wrote a similar-ish fic about him too at least in spirit). Raphael I find fascinating. Because we get so much less information about him, I can put more of my own needs for the fanfiction into him, and develop his back story in a more robust manner in a way that suits the pairing. Him being a cambion, being able to add monster fucker elements, being really certain mentally that he's like... that he doesn't have a very 'classically' human way of thinking, makes him extremely interesting to me as a love interest to write!

(Not gonna lie, part of me actively resents how fluffy fandom is getting, and I wanted to put more rape and dubcon into AO3 overall for Astarion in particular. Like, I want more angst and hurt/comfort etc. I get that his back story is tragic, but I also wanted to push that in a different direction, and I really love writing a character that's been through so much awfulness they become almost expectant of it? That's also a Felix Harrowgate vibe. It's fun kind of...guiding those characters specifically to a better place internally, and not just externally).

13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?

The Palmarosa playlist! I put it on every time I write for this story. Some songs I listen to more than others, Trench and Menace generally accompany me during the more sexual scenes for example. And I have put on the instrumentals for I Want To Live from the official BG3 soundtrack (by Borislav Slavov) on repeat for sections as well. I still am expanding the Palmarosa soundtrack but I have enough kind of music to also be comfortable writing the story as well. :D

Tin picking his crazy small S/O up (Very carefully, with those fingers of his) and placing them somewhere to the side (Maybe into the arms of one of his tin soldiers- yes, he has entire army fully at his command. They're tin/biology hybrids frankensteined together by Scare) before Dealing with the situation himself. I can see it so clearly it is making my heart ache. Tin scooping you up, saying 'thank you, spring blossom (he'd use all sortsa cringy cute names like that genuinely XD ), but please, please let me handle this for you. The last thing we want is for you to be hurt', and carefully passing you off to another soldier he trusts. He carefully pushes some of your hair behind your ear, then turns back to the threat; straightens up to his f u l l building-like height, and takes care of shit. And the whole time, he wouldn't let even one piece of whoever he's Taking Care Of to hit you (The man is THOROUGH).

Tin Accidentally Hurting S/O:

He was on his knees, again. You told him a million times he doesn't need to do that, but the sweet, dramatic man just cant help himself. And honestly? You don't mind it, actually- You can kiss him and fluster him a lot easier this way. But this time?? This time he was on his knees profusely apologising. And you couldn't take it!! 1. Who is your favourite character?

It's a tie between Jenny and Charles. I'm a huge sucker for the characters who keep all of their pain close to their chest in an effort to make other people happy so Charles stole my heart real quick but I'm also obsessed with Jenny's particular brand of "reluctant big sister" that she got wrangled into for most of the show. She might not WANT to follow Crystal to go deal with her shitty ex but is she going to let her go alone??? Fuck no.

5. Which character do you relate to the most?

Probably Edwin, weirdly enough. Due to being rather sheltered growing up (my mom was TERRIFIED I was going to follow in her footsteps and be a teen parent), I was a bit of a late bloomer myself and I was always definitely that awkward kid who could cling a little too hard to friends sometimes.

8. A headcanon you have (that you havent seen talked about yet)!

Hmmmmmm, I feel like I tend to blurt out every idea that comes to me so I probably don't have that many headcanons I've been hanging onto. I think one I have is that Edwin's soul is absolutely changed by hell in a way that is clocked by basically every ghost and supernatural creatures they meet, even if they don't know why. Like there is just a general air of something Not Right™ about him that puts people further on edge around him. I have had some THOUGHTS about this.

15. Favourite line in the show?

There are SO MANY GOOD ONES. Basically anything that comes out of Esther's mouth (the "Ouch, my ghost skin" line is a CLASSIC) but tbh I think the line Edwin says to Simon about everywhere being hell is probably right up there because I know I found it relatable as someone growing up queer in a world that didn't always accept it.

Red Bull - If you had a theme song, what would it be?

One of my fave openings is "Platinum" by Maaya Sakamoto from Card Captor Sakura (OP #3). So if I could take a theme song from another show, it would be this one. It's about hope and looking forward to everything that life has to offer.

But since that one's in Japanese, I'm not sure if it's appropriate for me, necessarily. So I think a good alternate would be from my fave band The Green. "Alive" is about appreciation and loving others, and this is them singing an acoustic ver. Also I'm always entertained by the reference they make to the dreary time it rained for 40 days continuously (and the Ala Wai canal overflowed and flooded part of my school). We used to have a non-porous road through our school that became an ankle-deep rushing stream during those 40 days, and we had to cross that road to get to a certain building of classes. That road has since been renovated so that it doesn't happen again. Oh, Hawaii classrooms open to the outdoors, so the rain was inescapable.

usuk headcanons during ww2? or after the war?

Hmmmmmm! Good question! I don't know, really! I flip-flop so much about how I want they relationship to develop during that time. Do I want Alfred to be cold and apathetic in a reflection of how he thinks his people are towards Arthur and the war initially? Do I want him to tell himself that Arthur is only good for making money off of? That he finds the begging kind of funny? Until his own compassion gets in the way and it becomes more and more apparent that the Arthur he had in his head this whole time sort of never existed and the guy in front of him is somehow not the person he knew as a child nor the big bad snide villain he thought he was either.

And Arthur is jealous, you know? Jealous of the no rationing of the health of the ability to say 'doesn't affect me' and yet make bank selling weapons. So I like the idea of quite an acerbic relationship being worn down throughout 1940 as Alfred starts to understand what's actually at stake, and Arthur slowly becomes more willing to be vulnerable around Alfred.

But there's also those ideas where they're already a pair by the time war breaks out ajd instead you have an Alfred who is endlessly frustrated with what he perceives as slowness from his government, and then you can play with things like the Eagle Squadron or other similar ideas. This time, you instead have an Arthur who's kind of desperate for Alfred to go back to his rich, not at war country, and be safe. But you know, Alfred won't be telt, and it's inevitable anyway. They both know it, it's just a case of when. As the war goes on Arthur gets progressively grumpier at all those American GI's flirting with his girls. He's not jealous.

I know in canon they end up spending a lot of time in North Africa together; but we also know Arthur spent a lot of time in Italy in and out POW camps and doing stuff for the SOE, so I can imagine after 1943 Arthur is in Italy and Alfred gets sent East and they maybe don't see each other until the wars end thereafter (Matthew is soloing it in Normandy doing the pinching move with Ivan to the East). You can get a lot of yearning out of that distance, I think. A whole world away.

Ummm... what else...

Arthur can and did feed Alfred's paranoia re. Ivan immediately after the war, as well as playing into Alfred as the 'hero' (even if he does believe it, just a little) to flatter his ego. This was because Arthur really didn't want a repeat of WWI where Alfred just buggered off again, both for personal and political. It didn't take long though before he was like

because Cold War Alfred was a dick at times and Arthur is not as clever or as important as he thinks he is.

They don't get much one on one peaceful time together, during or after the war, but they did get a month's holiday in 47. They essentially lived like a normal couple for those four and a bit weeks and was a bit of a wake up call to Arthur about what kind of life he could be having (a happy one). It takes a wee while before either of them are allowed to a) be alone and b) not be under pressure from their governments so they can have that experience again. Arthur enjoys it more than he would ever admit out loud.

So like, Rick doesn't respect time travel and it more or less seems to be the same for all Ricks across the board. So as time goes on they would all find out stuff about their abandoned/alternate families organically, and imagine our Rick (still on his revenge kick) hearing for the first time that a lot of the Beth's are getting pregnant at 17. Then later that they're having baby girls named Summer and marrying the kid that knocked her up.

With memory Rick he says 'Are you one of those Rick's that moves in with abandoned adult Beth?'

Imagine across the central finite curve the Rick's that hear about what's going on, and maybe try to enter Beth's life then, try to help her with the pregnancy and the baby. We see in the show and the comics that there are more or less two kinds of Rick's, the ones that abandon their families and the ones that lost their families, and I have to imagine that some of the later told themselves hey, I can protect my family now, I want to go help Beth.

Granted I don't think things would end well for them, but hey, infinity means everything happens once.

And then as time goes on and the Rick's start hearing about another grandchild, Morty. We know that our Rick visited Morty as a baby, (likely without Beth and Jerry knowing), and imagine the longing to be a part of their life's. But he can't, because anytime a Rick starts to be happy with his family the family dies.

But then news about a Morty's brainwaves blocking out a Ricks breaks, and suddenly even the deadbeats are getting 'involved' with their family again. Rick and Morty, the duo found through infinity. And suddenly it's not so dangerous to be with your family, lots of Rick's are now hanging around, only to use Morty of course. Sure you still have like the Government after you, but they're nothing to worry about really. Having Rick's that don't think your Rick enough off your back though?

Idk this is a long rambling thought that was kinda hard to type out cause I didn't want to make it too long 😅😅😅😅😅😅

🕯️was there a fic that was really hard on you to write, or took you to a place you didn't think it would take you?

oh . my god. um yeah. okay well, most fics are really hard to write cuz im constantly tired, dont have the time or motivation, and run out of excitement or interest very quickly.

BUT, one fic that was really hard was Cute Library Boys it was....I think my first MK fic- it's just a fluffy Steven thing but it was HARD. Mostly bc I was still finding my footing, and because I picked over every single detail over "will anyone like this?" even though really- i was giggling abt it and loved it and thats what matter. In the end i said fuck it and just did whatever- but i remember spending HOURS trying to "fix" it. But ANYWAY it's cute and it makes me giggle (not my best work AT all, again i was still testing out the waters, but it's special to me<3)

One fic that absolutely took a life of its own was Holidays With Them (fluffy MK x muslim! reader thing) & Enchanted 1 and 2 (Loki >:) !!)

BOTH of those fuckers took a) AGES and b) i winged both of them lmao. the MK one started off as a fun little thing, cuz I was Yearning, and then it kind of just....expanded. I had whole ass essays and rants wth people. I made some friends. It was really neat. It just grew on its own like I was possessed and I went from there. The Loki one too- its a song fic, so you'd think i'd have a solid plan, but liek always, these fuckers do whatever they want >:( i HAD a plan but then i blinked and 7k words later, i had a whole different story and not a trace of the original plot. I was possessed once again.

💌share something with us about an up-and-coming work (WIP) that has you excited!

HMMMMMM well. I've been working on planning this REALLY big and complicated series (for, SHOCKER, Loki) it's got like 3 different storylines and endings. It's suuuper fun actually, bc one of it is in the aftermath is him dying, and instead of whatever s1 was, we ignore that and suffer through angst >:) and its very traumatising but generally, a happy ending!! and i love getting to explore the what-ifs of a situation and digging through the little cracks of relationships!!! the second storyline is one that follows the show, and its really fun getting to poke at little holes to shove my own ideas into them!!!!

AND THEN im working on some Frank smut (based off of the little thing i put out a little while back cuz why not !!!). Oooh and i'm trinkering with boyfriend's dad!Marc >:)

but Also, I'm Yearning so much right now with all the stupid fluffy talk @hon3yboy keeps spewing and so I'm opening up my Docs with a heavy sigh to write fluffy stuff.

It's really fun!! Will any of this see the light of day soon? Absolutely not. I'm mostly focusing on my novel right now.

But it's fun nonetheless.
