18. Opinion on Edwin and Charles' dynamic? (Is it Romantic/ Platonic/ Secret third thing?)

- it's carnal. it's fate. it's a wrought iron white knuckled grip. it was always going to end up this way but it never meant to be. who cares if they hug or kiss or fuck- they love each other and they will go to hell and drag each other out to make sure nothing ever keeps them apart. it's soulmates taken to its most literal meaning. it's edwin needing to have just one person in the entire world who understands him and charles caring so much he lets himself fuck up. he stops being the perfect toy his father raised and starts being a human. edwin lets go of everything stopping him from being happy and lets charles drag him there. it's love. and that's all that matters

3. i think a lot of the characters on dbda are loved just the right amount by the fandom, netflix obviously underappreciates all of them because they cancelled the show >:( but if i were to choose i'd say tragic mick. like ohhhh his story actually killed me he has such great vibes. i'd love to write a poem about him if someone compiled his scenes for me to study

8. A headcanon you have (that you haven’t seen talked about yet)

OOOOH okay! Hmmm…

OH. I feel like Edwin gets squicked out just spiders of any kind because of his Hell experience - we see his reaction to dolls, but I feel like it also extends to arachnids. Charles is the guy who definitely always will take the spider outside rather than killing it, though.

17. Theory you have/had for season 2

Redemption arc for the Dandelion Sprites. There’s a reason they were in the stinger with Niko! I imagine they would become no less foul-mouthed, but actually attached to her and like violently protective through whatever journey they undergo.

22. Personal favorite female character? Why?

This is hard because I honestly love all the women in this show. But Niko is my number one - something in her just resonates with me, the intelligence, the kindness, the endearing weirdness, the clever problem-solving. She just carved a little pink sparkly space in my heart.

episode 7!! it's really sweet and i think the way we see all of the characters is an incredible showcase of who they are if that makes sense, like charles & edwin in hell, niko & the night nurse, crystal jenny & david, it's all like omg

that's hard because i relate to all of them but if i had to pick the top one it'd be charles? probably why edwin is my favorite character LMAO

the devlin house i think, i cry every single time

charles' because it looks like if my music taste was put onto a person and i love it, all of their outfits are always incredible though

1 - Who is your favourite character?

OH, that's a difficult one, I love them all so much!!! I'd probably say either Edwin or the Cat King. The Cat King's just so funny, I love all the acting choices Lukas Gage made. And Edwin's just so fantastic, again, George Rexstrew did a brilliant job with him. He cares so much and is so kind and so hurt and I just love him so much

5 - Which character do you relate to the most?

Ooooh, another difficult one. I think either Edwin (again) or Niko! Can't talk to new people, had a hard time at school, feels like a bit of an outsider, really obsessed with one or two specific things? Check, check, check. Also, a burning optimist, despite whatever happens. That's me down to a T, lol

7 - Favourite headcanon from the fandom so far?

I do love the true ghost forms idea @hannaloony came up with. That's so cool. It just feels right and is a BRILLIANT vehicle for angst

15 - Favourite line in the show?

Can I say the entire script? Or everything out of Edwin's mouth?

Obviously I love the entire Hell's stairs confession. Iconic. But I am a sucker for the whole little book scene between Charles and Edwin, especially "Does that look blue to you, Charles?" just for the way George delivers it

6. A fanfic rec or fanart rec!

I could recommend a lot of fics and fanart because the dbda fandom has sooo many amazing fic writers and artists!

For the fanart, I'll go with @professional-lurker-42 's fanart of Crystal and Niko. It's absolutely gorgeous, the colours flow so well and Niko's expression is so lovely

for fics, I'll recommend two because I couldn't decide! They are both still in progress and the writers are incredibly talented: @oddessea 's Feel, which is the second part of the "hell or high water" series (I recommend both parts!) and @genevievefangirl 's Hunger Games AU (I haven't even read HG and I love it!)

15. Favourite line in the show?

It's literally so hard to decide. There are so many to choose from, but one that has really stuck with me was something that Edwin said to Niko: "Take it from a ghost, no one is ever gone. And if he's somewhere watching over you, he's smiling." It felt like something I really had to hear and it's one of my favourite moments in the entire show

1. Who is your favorite character?

Crystal Palace! For one thing she reminds me a lot of a girl I used to know. I’m really interested in her family and backstory and sad that we did not get to see more of her parents in season 2. I made a post about this before, but its super interesting to see a privileged girl lose all her memories and find out what her personality is at its most base when its not being influenced by her parents money (and possible fame).

5. Which character do you relate to the most?

Its really hard to say, I spent a lot of time around girls like Crystal as a teenager in residential treatment, so although her vibe feels familiar to me, I don’t know if that translates into me personally relating to her. I relate a lot to Edwin when it comes to the whole business of unrequited love and being afraid of your own feelings. I watched DBDA over the summer when I was just trying to get over this longstanding intense crush so. 

7. Favorite headcanon from the fandom so far?

Hmm that the Cat King is a stoner who smokes catnip. That always makes me laugh. I also love in fanfictions where they go back and haunt Charles’ parents. Or haunt anyone in general. I would have loved to see more of that in season 2.

15. Favorite line in the show?

When Niko is being told about her possession by the sprites and she says “That sounds bad.” Its just delivered so well and makes me laugh every time. This tied with “Ouch, my ghost skin.”

3. A character you think is underrated/ underappreciated.

Does Jenny count? Bc I really love the relationship she forms with the core 4 and I really want her to be their parent figure 🥹

5. Which character do you relate to the most?

I’d say a mix of Edwin and Charles but if I really had to choose, it would be Edwin for different reasons: 1. I’m not diagnosed yet but I highly suspect myself to be some kind of autistic, and, well, Edwin is very autistic coded for a lot of us right? Mostly regarding his aversion to touch and his human relations, 2. his sassy attitude? I think I can be like that with some of my friends, 3. I also fell in love with my best friend (unfortunately for me it was not reciprocated), and 4. I have a lot of fun and find it easier to put myself in his shoes when doing videos for tiktok.

But also Charles bc I’m very optimistic and keep spirits up a lot like him, and I can’t express my feelings for the life of me. Although I don’t have half the energy he has nor I can fight like he does.

15. Favourite line in the show?

Gosh that’s way too hard I have so many 😭 Basically every Edwin lines, but one that stands out otherwise is the Cat King going “WHY the FUCK are you here?!” with Esther

17. Theory you have/had for season 2?

Learning more about Kashi. Like during a case, the boys encounter a problem that leads to them asking the Night Nurse for help and her telling them about Kashi and we somehow learn that he’s a supernatural of some kind. I always found it strange that we knew so little about him. Like, how was he not dead like all the other ghosts and living in a giant fish instead, just like the Night Nurse?

who is your favorite character?

CHARLES!! he's very relatable to me, and i love his style so much <33 he's also. pretty as fuck

2. which is your favorite episode? why?

episode 7. i low-key have a bit of an obsession with the world building of hell, it is so interesting to me. then of course charles' pure commitment to get edwin out of hell, the confession scene, the scene with simon, charles death scene & niko saving the day. this episode really ruined me, in the good way.

7. favorite headcanon from the fandom so far?

ooh, i have a few. but since a season 2 is not been announced yet (yes i'm refusing to give up lol), id say bi!charles because 1) in canon there are many signs and 2) he's my fave, i'm bisexual, so i am definitely projecting, just a little.

17. theory you have/had for season 2?

that desire would show up and parallel what the cat king did with edwin, with charles. when i discussed this with my gf we agreed that literal transformation into edwin, like tck had done (only then into charles), would be a little too similar, so maybe desire would use charles' already existing memories to show him what he wants so badly? this would both give us more insight to what happened in the previous 30 years and go hand in hand with the fandom's agreement that charles already looks so whipped for edwin.

Hiya! For the dbda ask game, 20 and 23?

Thanks a lot for the questions. As for style, I’m very much a wool and tweed person, so I’d say Edwin (particularly when he’s a bit more informal without starched collar and bowtie). But I like Crystal’s thrifty style, too, and, well, the Cat King totally rocks his outfits, doesn’t he? Actually, all characters in the show have a great style, which yet more proof of how excellent the costume design is.

As for songs, one of my absolute favourite sequences of the show are the attic scenes in ep. 7, meaning the song that’s played in the beginning will always remind me of the series. There are also two songs that were used for absolutely brilliant fanvids, Glitter and Gold and Sinners by Barns Courtney:

2 - fave episode

Oh boy, probably episode 7! It has so many interesting character beats to me, and I get too distracted watching it when I have Dead Boys going in the background. To start with, I love Crystal's storyline starting with her being so adamant to also go to hell to save Edwin. We all know that their relationship has gotten off to a rocky start and I feel this really solidifies her care for Edwin and shows they have their own friendship outside of Charles. She is so worried about not knowing who she is that I feel she has failed to noticed she has already made her own found family.

The scenes with Niko and the Night Nurse really showcases Niko missing her dad and is another of great addition to the episode. For me it's the only explanation of why the group didn't wonder why Niko wasnt a ghost- she obviously passed on to be with her father, right? (Truly heartbreaking to me that they don't even know to look for her at this point.)

George Rexstrew's performance this whole episode is superb imo. The scene with Simon is so heartbreaking (shout out to Gabriel Drake!) and really hit me in the queer feels. I feel like many queer people have had that feeling when we are younger of being wrong, and to have these two boys help each other to move on healed something in me. Follow this up with THE STAIRCASE- the way Edwin's breath catches as he confesses and the fragile look on his face; the collar bone touch from Charles gets me every time. And I'm so thankful for Charles response. Payneland until I die, but it is perhaps the only pair I ship that if it stayed a QPR I would still be okay with it.

14 - plotline you would put into S2/any future season

I really want to see more Edwin and Crystal friendship and for them to pair up on a case together next season! I think it was an unappreciated duo and I would love to get to see them be mean girls together. I think they would be iconic verbally ripping apart a rude client.

I also need Monty to return asap. That poor little crow boy deserves another chance and I'm heartbroken that they just left him in that house. I hope he somehow becomes besties with Jenny- a crow and a goth together at last. I would also love if somehow Monty and the Cat King both came to London as a duo if we are to get cameos. It could work so well for them to have bonded in the absence of the other characters and now they need the dbda to take a case for them.

It would make my little heart so happy for Monty to get any happy ending but I hope he gets a boyfriend please and thank you.

21 - something in the show that made you happy

I really appreciate that the show made women fully fleshed out characters. It would have been easy for them to have Niko be the positive attitude character, but I think we can all relate to her a lot more knowing she struggles with fitting in and is dealing with the loss of a loved one. Jenny could have been all about the pithy oneliners, but instead we found out about her having to learn a business that was left to her by her father and her struggles to find people to connect to. Even the Night Nurse goes on a journey to learn empathy for humans. Truly a shout out to all the woman writers, actors and crew on this show for having such nuanced characters when other supernatural shows in the past haven't bothered.

Also I really love Kingham and Litty and I hope they stick around for awhile next season so I can enjoy more of their savagery. And maybe they can learn to not be dicks ❤️

hmmm. i would, yeah, for a while at least. i'm still young and i'd be leaving a lot behind if i left for the afterlife immediately, yeah?

i think i'd travel a bit too, see places i want to see (like the place where different scenes from shows and movies were filmed, i love them too much)
