Took a break from sewing Edwin’s coat to work on his “confession outfit” and some other stuff:
repaired an old pair of my granny’s leather gloves
made green laces for my trusty brown boots out of green cords and a bit of thin copper wire
labouriously peeled off the designer label embroidered on the green shawl-collar jumper I was lucky to find at a thrift shop – sadly, it didn’t come off as cleanly as I’d hoped, so I had to darn the area, too
cut off the lower legs of a pair of trousers I’d dyed brown, gathered them below the knee and added buttons and buttonholes
added the white stripe (with white fabric marker) to the brown socks I’d found at a peddler’s stall at my local autumn market

Yay, just signed up. I’m offering two auctions for fanart, one for BBC Sherlock, Tolkien and Dead Boy Detectives, and one just for the Dead Boys.
You can find examples of my art for all three fandoms here:
Creator Sign-Ups Are Open!!!
It's time to sign up for FTH 2025!
Before you sign up, some reading material (if you're a returning creator, please give them another look, as we have changed a few things!)
FTH FAQ
What to expect on the signup form
A brief overview of this year's changes
Which fandoms are on this year's list (but of course you can write in any fandoms you like)
FTH 2025 Calendar
List of Supported Nonprofits
We also wrote a little self-care reminder. The short version: we want to acknowledge that this year will be hard for many people for many reasons, and that stress can take a toll on creativity. Keep your own well-being in mind when planning your FTH offerings, and only offer what you really want and feel able to do. We'd truly rather have fewer sign-ups than have FTH deadlines cause you excessive stress at the end of the year.
The FTH Auction Sign-Up Form is here!
The Fan Crafts Bazaar Sign-Up Info is here!

Took on lapels and collar of Edwin’s coat today, which – as expected – was a bit of a struggle because they contain many different parts, and the construction requires some rather abstract thinking. I found that with the heavy fabric I am using, less interfacing would have been better, because now the seams are very thick. Will iron them some more tomorrow and attach the sleeves.

Our Stance On Gen-AI
This year, for the first time, we've had a couple of reports from bidders that the FTH fanworks they received were produced using generative AI. For that reason, we've decided that it's important that we lay out a specific, concrete policy going forward.
Generative AI tools are not welcome here.
Non-exhaustive list of examples:
image generators like Imagen, Midjourney, and similar
video generators like Sora, Runway, and similar
LLMs like ChatGPT and similar
audio generators like ElevenLabs, MusicLM, and similar
Participants found to have used generative AI to produce a fanwork, in part or in whole, for their bidder(s) will be permanently banned from participating in future iterations of Fandom Trumps Hate.
Why?
We understand that there can be contentious debate around the use of generative AI, we know individual people have their own reasons for being in favor of it, and we recognize that many people may simply be unaware that these tools come with any negative impacts at all. Regardless, we are firm in our stance on this for the following (non-exhaustive) list of key reasons in no particular order:
negative, unregulated environmental impact
Over the years, you may have noticed that we’ve supported multiple environmental organizations doing important work to combat climate change, preserve wildlife, and advocate for renewable and sustainable energy policy changes. Generative AI tools produce a startling amount of e-waste, can require massive amounts of storage space and computational power, and are a (currently unregulated) drain on natural resources. Using these tools to produce a fanwork flies in the face of every environmental organization we have supported to date.
plagiarism and lack of artistic integrity
Most if not all generative AI models are trained on some amount of stolen work (across various mediums). As a result, any output generated by these models is at worst plagiarized and at best extremely derivative and unoriginal. In our opinion, using generative AI tools to produce a fanwork demonstrates a lack of care for your own craft, a lack of respect for the work of other creators, and a lack of respect for your bidder and your commitment to them.
undermining our community building impact
One of the best things to come out of the auction every year—we can't even call it a side benefit, because it's so central to us—is that bidders and creators form collaborative relationships which sometimes even turn into friendship. Using generative AI undermines that trust and collaboration.
undermining the value of participating as a creator
Bidders participate in Fandom Trumps Hate for the opportunity to prompt YOU to create a fanwork for them, in YOUR style with YOUR specific skill set. Any potential bidder is perfectly capable of dropping a prompt into a generative AI tool on their own time, if they wish. We hope all creators sign up with the aim to play a role more significant than “unnecessary middleman.”
In general, we try to be as flexible as we can in our policies to allow for the best experience possible for all Fandom Trumps Hate participants. This, however, is something we are not willing to be flexible on. We realize this may seem unusually rigid, but we ask that you trust we have given this serious consideration and respect that while we are willing to answer clarifying questions, we are not open to debate on this topic.

Went to Hoxton Street Monster Supplies today, a shop that features in my Payneland fic Eight Seconds (or, well, their real shop does ...). It’s a marvellous place that has a ghostly post office, apparently. I also left an advertisement for the Dead Boy Detectives Agency and got two death certificates for the boys.

I’ve participated in this wonderful auction every year since its inauguration (both as a creator and a bidder), and will do so again this year, offering fanworks for Sherlock, Tolkien (books), and Dead Boy Detectives.
Fandom Trumps Hate 2025 Calendar
We're back, folks! FTH is back for be our ninth (!) auction, and there's lots of good work to be done. (What is Fandom Trumps Hate?)
In this post you'll find the calendar for the 2025 auction, along with links to some useful information, including this year's list of supported organizations. (All of these same links can be found in our masthead, but since that's not visible on mobile we wanted to make them easy to find elsewhere.) You'll also find dates for our Crafts Bazaar. (wait, the what? Read more at our 2024 Crafts Bazaar page.)
Here is this year's list of supported organizations. We'll be posting more detailed profiles of each of them over the coming weeks. We also encourage you to look at the Auction FAQ (which has lots of useful information for people thinking about signing up as creators, as well as dedicated sections on bidding and on nonprofit orgs.) If you're raring to go, you can look at our bidding policies.
Lastly, in a couple of weeks we'll be kicking off our newly-revived offscreen activism blog @fthaction. Why not give it a follow?
FTH2025 Auction Calendar
Monday, January 20th: creator signups open for both the auction and the crafts bazaar
Sunday, February 2nd: creator signups close
Friday, February 21st: browsing period begins, crafts bazaar announcement goes live
Tuesday, February 25th, 8am ET: bidding opens
Saturday, March 1st, 8pm ET: auction bidding closes
Monday, March 10th: craft stalls close
Wednesday, March 12: proof of donations due
...and if you're thinking the gap between the end of signups and the beginning of browsing period looks long: we have also noticed this! In order to accommodate some back-end changes that will help the auction run more smoothly, we've given ourselves an extra week to get ourselves set up. We've also got some stuff in the works to occupy that time -- we'll say more about that when the time arrives.
Together, we're going to make sure that there is at least one (1) good thing in the world with the number 2025 attached to it.

I really do love how you draw Sherlock and John!! They're so correct and soft and breathtaking
Awww, thank you very much 😍 I kinda went back to the roots for my latest drawing of them. Most of my early Johnlock artworks from 2011 onwards were pencil drawings.

“Happy birthday, Sherlock.”
“Thank you, John. What is this, then?”
“Well, how about you make a deduction?”
*gasps*
“Oh no, you didn’t, John!”
“Didn’t what?”
This honey is from that very very exclusive – and elusive – shop that popped up in Covent Garden for one day only, resulting in a queue of people all the way down to the Strand.”
“Yep.”
“And you went there? And you queued? For hours? In the truly abominable weather we had that day? And you paid the surely exorbitant price? To get this? For ... me?”
“Yep.”
“John ... I ...”
“Glad you like it, Sherlock. But the gift isn’t entirely selfless.”
“How so?”
“I expect a tasting session soon.”
“A tasting session?”
“Yep. You eat a spoonful, and I ... well, I’m sure you’ll get the idea, clever chap that you are.”
“I think I have an inkling, yes. A most wonderful gift indeed, John.”

You've probably heard that Dead Boy Detectives got cancelled.
What you maybe haven't heard is that there is an extremely active ongoing campaign to try and get it renewed. You might have seen our billboards around lately. ✨
Want to join the campaign? Here are some things you can do to help: 💀 There's a petition to get the show renewed! It has 21,000+ signatures and counting. You can sign it here. Ask your friends to sign. Ask your family!
💀: Follow this Tumblr! Since you're here on Tumblr already, it's the easiest way to get news about the campaign.
💀: Join our Save Dead Boy Detectives Discord server. This is where a lot of the planning happens. We post regular updates and easy action items that members can take to help make the call for renewal more visible.
💀: Participate in our letter-writing initiative. Sending physical mail is one of the very best ways to get a company's attention.
💀: Keep streaming the show! Watch numbers are a huge indication to streaming services that there's audience demand.
As the cast and crew have said, never say never. Let's give them all a chance to finish telling their story. ✨
