For years i always thought i related to Raven the most but after rereading the first 3(?) Books i now realize like i am totally an Alexander.
Which has got me thinking like Alexander is literally just chilling and every single person he comes into contact with whether thats human or vampire they all project a bunch of weird shit onto him. Very specifically his partners/ex partners. Bro is literally extremely isolated and socially akward and because he's hot and goth everyone misinterpretes it as him being this ultra mysterious prize thats to be won. Bro literally just wants to paint leave his ass alone.
Even Raven does this, she def has a much better understanding of who he is compared to like idk Luna or something but she still does it. It makes me feel bad for him. Ravens probably the closest he's ever came to having a real genuine connection and she's over there in lala land lowkey wanting to use him for his vampire bite.

HI. 10/11 i actually don't know what route Deva is on💔 fake fan. also 7 and 15 👀
HI JULES!! omg no i dont think i ever mentioned it dont worry im actually not even 100% set on what i have at the moment either BUT lets go on an adventure 🫴
10. If on the Bobby route, did your detective and Bobby kiss? Unwanted or Wanted? How is your detective dealing with this? And how do you think M will react once they find out?
But but but… Dev is my messy chaos child of course she kissed Bobby 🤦‍♀️
its a complicated situation and theres a rat-king tangle of emotions she doesn’t want to even begin to parse through knotting in her chest and stomach after the carnival w Mason and what she overhears from him back at the warehouse. she didn’t particularly DESIRE to kiss Bobby (but the girl lying in bed w her cat and 18 kirbies cackling evilly and choosing whatever’s funniest did shh) but they have a history and hes easy and she has steam to blow off and destructive habits to engage and the devil you know, you know. if there’s one thing about Deva she does not let things go and she will get even after taking the slightest hit to her ego, as shitty as that sounds 😭 zero emotional regulation . so yeah she initiates the kiss 🕴️
she is meh towards bobby in general (thinks hes funny in ‘i hate my job and this nosey ass reporter i used to fw in college adds a little entertainment’ way) but doesn’t regret the kiss in terms of feeling bad with regards to mason. wildly, she went into book 3 with a good relationship with bobby (truly chaotic exes) despite being a huge bitch in book 1 to him so he did NOT bring up the kiss to mason which she had forgot all about until that point. i would say thats when it starts to weigh on her subconscious a little, an uncomfortable niggling that she suppresses with her usual vices and louder simpler thoughts and feelings. im hoping thats not the end of it and that it does get brought up again just to make her squirm hehe
7. What does your detective think of the glimpse of M’s past and their “not guilty” judgment?
dev has an eerie sixth sense for weird shit and a knack for springing into action at pivotal and intense moments, but putting effort into dissecting and finding meaning in these strange situations is not her specialty so she doesnt bother. what she sees hardly makes sense to her at that moment other than the real flesh-and-blood-not-mirror Mason is on his knees in pain so um yeah she fucking shoots the mirror LMAO. crazy ass
later when its mentioned that what was playing out was Masons past, she feels sympathetic for sure — it looked like torture and experimentation to her, plus later when she gets another piece of the puzzle that M purposefully chose to have their memories wiped, she figures thats precisely why. having something like that haunting you, especially for an eternity as a vampire, would for sure fuck you up and she’d do the same.
as for the not guilty verdict, well she barely listened to Falk 😭 but she’d believe it. even if mason went beast mode and killed everyone in that room, it looked like they deserved it to her, and she has off-kilter morals and a twisted sense of justice anyway to put it lightly (capt sung was off the shits on his 8th line of coke with jeremy fragrance and mayor friedman on the day he promoted this woman in law enforcement I can tell u that much . Had to be)
15. What is your detective’s relationship with Rebecca like? If they saw the conversation that she has with M before the end of Book 2, what would they think?
BAD!! oh so so bad. *slaps devas head* this oc can pack so many grudges and let absolutely nothing go, ever . i delve a bit away from canon with her backstory and give an extra L to rebecca to keep secret and feel guilty about — in dev’s early childhood, after rooks death but before her 7th bday, rebecca permitted the agency to wipe a memory from deva which was of an imaginary friend that actually wasn’t imaginary and in fact a supernatural 🏃‍♀️ i go into that a lot more in the fic im writing and what it does to their relationship when dev finds out so ill spare details cuz this is long as hell already.
for the talk with Mason, god im fuzzy on it atm but if i remember right becky stays in her lane 😤 thats another thing that drives dev insane, is Rebecca thinking she can suddenly just involve herself in her personal life because theyre working together now. much too little far too late. rebecca is less than a stranger to her as far as deva is concerned and she is extremely harsh and unforgiving (which if mishka doesnt, i will make come back and bite dev in the ass bc truth be told i do like Rebecca as a character hehe)
thank you jules <33 you have GOT to rb one of these things some day so i can poke and prod about your love triangle menace 😤

Spilling My GUTS
After releasing her first album SOUR as a teenager and achieving high levels of success, pop star Olivia Rodrigo’s popularity is rapidly burgeoning with the recent release of her second album GUTS, displaying a wide variety of extremely relatable emotions. It may be an understatement to say that the world is hooked. But let’s be honest. The herd mentality can prevent any person from thinking about whether or not a song is really good. Pitchfork's rave reviews of the album, saying that "Rodrigo makes acting stupidly sound so fun you wonder what’s the point of being smart", places my expectations right on top of Mount Everest. So right here, right now, we’re going through the first five songs from the GUTS tracklist and figuring out which songs are worth a listen and which songs should be banned from touching the human ear.
Tumblr media
all-american b****
No other song would’ve been a better fit for the first song of this album. All-american b**** tells the tale of a girl who is just simply perfect in an absolutely unattainable way. The song starts with only acoustic guitar and Rodrigo’s soft voice. As the song goes on, the drums and electric guitar hit, showing us a new perspective on the lyrics, making them more sarcastic and angry. As Rodrigo says, women are expected to be “built like a mother and a total machine.” This expectation is extremely contradictory and the anger about an unreachable standard that all women are expected to uphold is a sentiment that virtually every woman has felt. I find this song to be perfect for her demographic of teenage girls, but I don’t think it excludes anyone. With its catchy melody and choruses, anyone could find themselves with this song stuck in their head.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
2. bad idea right?
The song “bad idea right?” tells the familiar tale of going back to your ex despite having already told your friends awful things about him. The heavy guitars and drums really add to the chaotic nature of the song, furthering the theme of knowing that you’re making a mistake but doing something anyway. The way Rodrigo raps the verses is extremely catchy and bouncy. It makes singing along extra fun since you get to copy her style of fun storytelling. The chorus is when the music goes full force, and although I didn’t like the vocals at first since I thought they were a bit one-note (literally), the song has worked its magic on me. I find that Rodrigo’s stylistic choices and vocals really set apart what would’ve been an otherwise boring chorus. I can see why a lot of people like it. However, I genuinely think there are lots of better songs on the album, so this would be pretty low on the list if I were to recommend a song.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
3. vampire
Hate me for this if you want, but I’m actually not a fan of this song. I know, I know. It’s on the radio every five minutes. Why would I ever not like it? But hear me out. It’s just so Driver’s License, a song from Rodrigo’s first album that jump-started her popularity. I see the appeal. The premise of the song is Rodrigo’s experience of being treated badly by an older man she was in a relationship with. The music involves a lot of piano background vocal harmonies, and a soft beat. The vocals are great and the music is good, but I don’t find myself drawn to this song. I don’t think it’s all that special, which may be what makes it good to release for the general public, but I’m just not interested.
Rating: ⭐⭐
4. Lacy
Lacy is about a complicated relationship with a girl. Hating her, being jealous of her, and loving her are all on the never-ending list of emotions that Rodrigo feels about her. The light guitar and soft harmonies that build through the song really encapsulate the overall feeling of the song: hiding emotions you don’t quite understand. I love how Rodrigo packs this song with details about her Lacy, describing her as having “skin like puff pastry” and “ribbons in [her] hair”. Lacy is just all too real. She’s so wonderful that you could never be mean to her, but you’re too jealous to ever be nice to her. This song has a lot to offer. The music sets up the lyrics perfectly, and the lyrics draw you in with their expressiveness. I simply can’t hate this song.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
5. ballad of a homeschooled girl
I can very clearly see the vision of this song. For a song about not being able to socialize after being homeschooled, it’s pretty catchy. I love the bass and the guitar. I’d consider it a strength of Rodrigo’s to show us anger and frustration through rock-inspired music. She does this through the chorus, complaining about how every single one of her social interactions is “social suicide.” I’m a fan of the way Rodrigo is showing us more of her “brutal” side, a song from her last album SOUR that got a lot of attention for being extremely catchy and fun. However, the catch with this song is that the verses are just not as good as the chorus is. The lyrics are basic and I don’t love the rapping. Don’t get me wrong, it’s absolutely not bad. Her rapping is actually surprisingly good in the song, but the music behind the verses is just too empty. There needs to be more of a body to the song, but I still find myself wanting to listen to it anyway.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Tumblr media
From the first five songs, I can really see the growth in Olivia Rodrigo's voice and style. This whole album decided to take a bit more of the pop-punk direction and this definitely suits Rodrigo's vibe. A lot of the choices throughout the album really help showcase her emotions and experiences. GUTS is just so quintessentially teenager that I find it impossible for people to hate, even though the Rolling Stones may have been a bit overzealous to call it an instant classic. From the anger to the sadness, the experience of growing up, making mistakes, and finding yourself has been condensed into this music. It has the potential to help a lot of teenagers feel less alone at a confusing time in their life, or at the very least, show them a good time.

Haunt
First of hopefully several ficlets in an October prompt challenge?? I haven’t done one of these before, but we’re going to try our best!
1k words, s2 spoilers (read on ao3)
“So......you believe in them?”
Jon pauses his idle pen clicking, looking up from the statement that he’s been attempting to read for the past twenty minutes. He can’t seem to help his wandering mind as of late, and nothing about the tight-knit webbing handwriting is making deciphering the thing any easier.
“In what, specifically?”
“Oh, um. I-in ghosts?” Martin answers. He’s standing at the bookshelf on the opposite wall, a fresh box of files perched under one arm and the other wedged in the toppled heap of what was once the January-1950-to-December-1954 shelf. Jon doesn’t say it to his face — doesn’t want Martin getting a big head or anything — but he is grateful that there’s someone around here with a modicum of organizational skills, of which Martin seems to have retained at least the bare minimum of from his library days. Plus, it keeps Martin out of trouble, in his line of sight. Jon would be cleaning up his office himself, you know, if he didn’t have to juggle a newly added cane alongside everything else.
Martin continues, “I just......well, I know you said you do actually believe in these types of things, which there’s nothing wrong with—”
“I know there’s nothing wrong with it, Martin.”
“I-it’s just the ghost thing, I’m...having trouble seeing it, I guess?” He adjusts the box, lets out a huff of a laugh, and then adds, “Honestly, I’d probably believe it more if you’d have asked me if I were a vampire or something.”
Jon scowls, suppressing his sigh with his hand but being careful not to lean to heavily into the bandages still blotting across his face — along with the rest of him, mind you. It’s honestly a bit ridiculous how long he has to spend changing them each night. But they still bleed if he pulls at them, still ache if he pokes, so the past few weeks have been a lot of tiptoeing around his own mess of a body; he can’t afford to take more time off, but painkillers only get a man so far, and...well. He’s only man, sadly.
Jon picks up his now-cold mug, swirls it around. Where it’d lain sits a water-worn circle in the wood, but it’s been there much longer than his memory could supply. “It’s......complicated,” he answers, taking a sip and choosing, very kindly, to ignore the attack on his character.
“Complicated how, exactly?”
“Well, erm. I wouldn’t say I believe in them in.........the traditional sense. It’s more like, um...” Hm. How to put it. Jon’s eyes roam around his office, across the hole still yet to be patched, the broken shelf that started it all, the half-worm-eaten boxes of old files that had outlived his predecessor and would probably do the same for him, and then up to Martin. And then he snaps his fingers. “Quantum mechanics.”
Martin blinks, blankly.
“I’m sorry?”
“Q-quantum mechanics,” Jon repeats, the confidence slipping out under Martin’s blank stare, “It’s uh...it’s a physics theory.”
More silence. Martin only continues to stare.
“I-it deals with particle motion, but one of the key aspects of the theory is the concept of superpositions. The sum of its parts, to put it simply, but with waves and quantum states.”
"Um...okay......?" Martin says, but his face still continues to test all its muscles as he looks at Jon like he’s begun sprouting worms from his ears. Or a pair of extra eyes. Jon slots his mug back into its ring and slowly checks for both before sighing and picking up the statement he’d been glowering at.
“Look, take this,” he says, holding it up as an example. “Each page is its own object, capable of being read and understood — these are quantum states.” He then begins to lay them down upon the desk, one after the other into a neat stack. “But if we put them together, then we create the statement. The superposition — the sum of its parts, which while not required for us to understand, helps to assign more.....meaning to it, I guess.”
Jon looks up to find that Martin has placed his box on the ground and slowly shuffled closer. Jon pushes the statement forward so he can see — over a sharp line in the wood he hasn’t noticed before. Like a knife cut, his brain supplies, but deliberate, with no stray scrapes. No blood either, though he doesn’t know why there should be any.
Jon continues. “If we work with the assumption that time follows the same properties as particles, then we can think of it as an infinite wave, stretching out unknowably long across its axis. Each point would therefore be the superposition of the quantum states in space that make up said moment. Its layers all smushed together to make...this.”
“Like tea,” Martin inputs, “when you add the cream and sugar.”
“Sure,” Jon says, even if tea seems like the least appropriate analogy in this context. “W-well, we can only comprehend our own quantum state — our own point in time, if you will — even though we, technically speaking, are the sum of many points. And when the edges of our state begin to thin and we notice the sum of our superposition, we can’t......really understand it. So we try to rationalize them as manifestations. Supernatural events, o-or—”
“Ghosts.”
“...Right.”
Martin looks at him. Jon looks back. Jon feels like he’s been doing a lot of that, lately, looking at Martin — a lot more than he used to, at least. A lot more than he ever really wanted to, but now he feels like their lives keep bumping elbows with each other and there’s nothing he can really do to help it. He can’t help it. He can’t help the way he stares at Martin’s matching bandaged hands, or the hairline fracture along the left frame of his glasses. Something from Prentiss, perhaps, or maybe it’d been there longer. Like the rings in the finishing around Jon’s mug. Or the notch in the wood, which he runs his pinkie finger along.
“You know,” Martin begins, cracking a half smile, “I feel like it’s a lot simpler to just believe in the concept of souls upset with the afterlife.”
Jon only manages a huff as he rolls his eyes.
“So you...do believe in them then?” Martin repeats, but softer. More understanding.
Jon doesn’t meet Martin’s gaze, and instead picks up the statement in front of him once more. A short one, in retrospect; barely two pages of jumbled script, a clear contrast from the typed font at the header of the page. 1992. Hazel Rutter. Something about a house fire, which seems completely mundane and not at all supernatural. Probably just another crackpot rambling, if experience has taught him anything. Something Jon really doesn’t need with all the added work already.
He pushes his chair to the side of his desk, then drops the statement into his haphazard “discredited” pile for later.
“I don’t know, Martin,” Jon mumbles, rubbing his eyes, “maybe.”

Hazelmere & Mathias the Vampire Couple 2
Tumblr media
Hazelmere and Mathias continue to lure you into their sexy arms. I suppose you were seduced before, but they can’t really turn it off.
Female Reader x Male Monster (genderfluid) x Female Monster (cis)
It’s not exactly dating, at least not the kind you’re used to. Even though there are two of them, there are still hints of what you’d call dating. It’s just different. It has been nice getting to know Mathias and Hazelmere, especially with how work has been lately. The law firm is getting slammed with a lot of extra cases lately, which means twice the amount of work that you’re used to. You work lots of late nights, which often leaves you worn out during your visits to Mathias and Hazelmere’s home.
“If you’re exhausted you don’t have to come see us,” Hazelmere coos one evening.
You’ve just walked in and are taking off your heels at the door. It was storming outside, so your shoes and feet are wet. You also forgot your umbrella at work, so you’re a bit soggy from the trip from your car to their door. “I want to. I feel like I need it lately.” You look up at Hazelmere, quickly swooping a stray hair out of your face. “Work can be so confidence-shattering sometimes.”
Hazelmere hums to herself as she thinks. “No one has said anything to you, have they?”
“Only when they want to blame something on someone.” You go into the parlor, where Mathias is already mixing up your drink.
“It is hard to be the underdog on the chain,” Mathias adds. “Easy to get kicked. Why, I remember before I met my Hazelmere, I was constantly bullied. I was such sweet, tender prey.” He hands you off the drink he prepared with expert care.
You sigh as you lounge back on the sofa. Hazelmere pulls your feet into her lap and begins kneading the arches. “I can’t imagine you being timid,” you say.
“He was an absolute puppy back in the day,” Hazelmere chuckles. “He still can be, but I taught him a thing or two.”
You sip your drink, watching as Mathias kisses Hazelmere’s neck. “How did you two meet, by the way?”
“It is not as exciting as I’m sure you’re expecting it to be,” Mathias moves to the fireplace, jabbing it with a poker. “I was tasked with styling a dress for Hazelmere, we got to talking, and it was history.”
“Oh,” you say simply. “I was expecting some grand romance.”
“That came later,” Hazelmere states matter of factly. “In the beginning it was all - oh, what did you call it, dear?”
Mathias smirks. “Wild, unbridled, bats-in-the-belfry fucking.”
You almost choke on your drink.
Hazelmere smiles and nods. “That’s it. It was just a sexual conquest for both of us, nothing special. That came with time.”
You clear your throat and take a breath. “So, the sex dungeon?”
“Well, we still like fucking.” Hazelmere rubs her hand up your leg.
“It shows you two are compatible,” you sigh. “My last ex and I were far from it.” You sit up more stiffly. “He was complicated, I guess is the best word. Sweet boy...”
“But you call him boy,” Mathias points out.
“Yeah well, he was backwoodsy, had a lot of backward thoughts in his head. It kind of confused him in the real world.” You frown a bit. “I liked him. I wanted to make it work. He was a virgin, though.”
Hazelmere snickers. “My goodness, you must be joking.”
You shake your head. “The way he talked sometimes it felt like he was asexual, but he didn’t accept that as something real. Had to have a family and all the junk, so he couldn’t be.” You shake your head. “He also got excited when I mentioned my bra size, so it was a little weird.”
“What ended it, then?” Mathias asks.
You smirk at the memory, which still pissed you off to this day. “He called my period disgusting.”
Both of them make a face. “You did say backwoodsy,” Mathias sighs.
“I can’t believe in this day and age it’s still treated with such a level of ignorance.” Hazelmere frowns. “I take that back, I can.”
“It’s over with. I just think about it when I want to be upset, you know?” You finish off your drink and set the empty glass aside. “After that, I just kept busy with work.” You sigh and take down your hair from its bun. Outside thunder booms, and the lights in the house flicker.
“I’ll go and fetch some candles, just in case.” Mathias says.
“Maybe I should go home,” you sigh. “I don’t want to be a bother.”
Hazelmere shakes her head. “I insist you stay the night. You may live close, but most accidents occur near the home.” She moves closer to you, putting her arm around you. “Besides, you’re soaked already. Why don’t you let me peel you out of those wet clothes and get you into something more comfortable?”
Your blood turns to magma, heating your face and going down through to your loins. You smile and giggle nervously. “As tempting as that sounds...” You lose your train of thought as you gaze at her. “I’m not even wearing cute panties today,” you murmur.
Hazelmere easily undoes the first few buttons of your blouse. Her elegant fingers trace your collarbone. then down between your breasts. “Such soft skin.” She looks into your eyes, and her ruby gaze makes your heart crash and bang.
“Lotion,” is all you can squeak out.
Hazelmere’s lips touch yours, and she presses herself close as she finishes opening your blouse. Her fingers trail across your skin until you feel the latches of your bra pop free. You gasp, opening your mouth against hers so her tongue is free to come inside. Her tongue is longer than you expected, and it tickles the roof of your mouth before tracing your teeth.
Your blouse and bra are removed, casually tossed aside as Hazelmere’s kisses leave dark red lipstick on your skin. Your skin feels electric all over, and you’ve not felt this aroused in a long time.
Thunder booms, and the crackle of the electricity cutting off stills your breath. “Uh-oh,” you exclaim.
Hazelmere moans into your ear, making you shudder. “Alone in the dark, about to be devoured,” she hisses. Her fingers curl around your jaw. “Isn’t it exciting?”
“Yeah,” you giggle.
Mathias walks in carrying a candelabra. “I should have known I’d find you like this.” He walks in with a smirk upon his lips. “Let me get comfortable so I can watch.”
You try to cover your breasts, but Hazelmere captures your hand. She kisses your palm and looks at you. Her eyes seem to glow in the candlelight. “She’s so responsive, darling,” she purrs. Her hand cups your breast, squeezing it. “I’ve been having fun just touching her.”
Matthias sits down in the chair across from the sofa. “I am not surprised.”
“It feels nice, that’s all,” you whimper.
Hazelmere kisses you as her hands go up your legs. She finds the zipper of your skirt and pulls it. You lift your hips, allowing her to pull away your skirt. “What a vision,” Mathias moans.
“Black panties and stockings.” Hazelmere purrs, her long fingers tracing the elastic line along your belly. “How seductive.”
You bite your lip, tasting her lipstick there. “I have cuter underwear.”
Mathia leans forward, eyes focused. “You think that would change anything?”
You look at him and feel his gaze flow through you. Hazelmere moves you so both your legs are on the sofa, draping one over the back. She kneads her hands into your legs, your inner thighs, then cups one around your groin. “She’s so wet.” Her smile grows, and the corners of his mouth twitch strangely. “Mathias.”
Mathias’ grin has the same appearance as her’s. “Go ahead, starling.”
Hazelmere rips your pantyhose, and you yelp in surprise. She lowers her head, licking the front of your panties. You shudder, catching a quick before you forget how to breathe.
“Are you excited?” Mathias asks. You nod. He bites his lower lip. “Do you want more?”
You swallow and gasp. “Yes.”
Hazelmere moves aside your panties and moans against your skin. Her tongue glides over you, pressing against you as her fingers knead your labia.
“Pretty dove,” Mathias moans as he watches. “She feels good doesn’t she?” He licks his lips. “Her tongue, her lips, her whole body right now only wants to please you.” His dark red eyes trail down your body. “It’s beautiful right now, two gorgeous creatures tangled together.” You moan as he looks into your eyes. “When is the last time you felt this?”
You whimper, biting your tongue as Hazelmere’s tongue teases your clit. “I’m not sure,” you choke. “I can’t… Oh, god…” You tense your neck, jolting as Hazelmere’s skilled lips fasten around your clit. “I can’t think straight.”
“Good, because there is a woman between your thighs,” Mathias teases. He stands up and walks over. He takes hold of your head hanging over the arm of the sofa. His fingers knead along your scalp and down your neck. “I’ve rarely seen a sight more beautiful.”
Hazelmere’s long fingers slip inside you, curling as she moves them within. Her moans against you vibrate through your spine and electrify every nerve so that your whole being singes. Mathias bends down, kissing you, sucking your tongue and biting your lip. Thunder continues to boom in the distance, but it is nothing compared to the storm of lust wracking your body. Your back arches, and you moan against Mathias’ lips. Hazelmere’s fingers move faster, and you cry out. Thunder, lightning, orgasm, they’re all the same. You lie limp on the sofa, breathing as you stare blankly at the ceiling.
Hazelmere’s smile is smug, and she licks her chops gleefully. “Feel better?”
Matthias kisses her, licking her lips and sucking her tongue. “Give her a minute, starling. I think you’ve stunned the dove.”
“I haven’t had that much fun in a while,” Hazelmere brags. “I’ve never seen someone get so wet.” She smirks at Mathias. “Her inner walls grip like demons.”
“I’ll let the demons slumber before I meet them,” Mathias teases.
Your head is swooning, so it takes you a few moments to pull from the afterglow. “Can I have some water?”
“Of course.” Hazelmere rises. “I’ll be right back.” She walks away like she hasn’t just given you the best orgasm of your life.
Mathias slips into her place, kissing you gently as he strips away the ripped pantyhose and your underwear. You’re lying naked, trembling still from Hazelmere’s affection. Mathias pulls you into his lap, kissing your neck and shoulder. “You smell so good,” he moans. “I bet you feel even better.”
“I feel molten,” you sigh. “Liquid.”
He chuckles. “My Hazelmere is good at turning people to liquid.” His tongue laps over your neck.
Hazelmere returns with water, and as you drink she and Mathias kiss and moan. You look back at them, eyes glazed and hungry. You kiss them both, placing yourself between them. They kiss down your body, touching every inch of you.
“Perhaps we should stop,” Hazelmere purrs. “Before we go too far.”
“I think you’re right, starling.” Mathias agrees. “I am starving, but I can hold off.”
They both stand up off the couch as you remain there. “Is something wrong?” you whimper.
“Nothing at all. We just don’t want to get overexcited,” Hazelmere replies.
“We tend to get a bit rough when we do.” Mathias scoops you off the sofa. “It’s late, and you must be tired.”
“I don’t mind,” you pout.
Mathias carries you upstairs, Hazelmere right beside him. “I don’t think you’re quite ready for that.” She opens the door to the master bedroom, illuminating the way with the candles as Mathias carries you inside.
Mathias sets you down on the bed gently. “We have a tendency to bite.”
“You can,” you whimper.
Hazelmere kisses you. “Shh. You have work in the morning, right? It’s best we end here and let you get some sleep.”
You watch as Hazelmere glides across the room and takes a robe off a chair. “Is there something you aren’t telling me?”
“There is a discussion we must have before we go further with this relationship, of course.” Mathias strokes your cheek. “That is why we are stopping here.”
Hazelmere wraps you up in a robe. “We will have everything laid out for you when you wake up. Get a shower, have breakfast. But we will probably wish to stay in bed.”
You kiss them both as they tuck you into bed. “That’s okay, I know you’re not morning people.”
“If you need anything, dove, just call for us.” Mathias kisses your forehead. “Sleep tight.”
Hazelmere gives you a smile. “This weekend,” she whispers. “I promise.”
Waking up the next morning feels different. Not because you are in their bed, but you, yourself, feel entirely different. You rise from bed, dropping the robe as you look at yourself in the mirror. You feel sexy, powerful, somehow better than you were before. You take that newfound power with you to work, feeling much more focused than before. It’s Friday, but it is a different sort of Friday. This weekend is going to be special, Hazelmere promised. After last night, you don’t know how it could get any better.
You go home after work, packing a small bag for yourself with extra clothes. You also take a quick shower, wanting to be at your best when you go to their house.  Once you arrive, Hazelmere is already standing at the door. She ushers you inside with a kiss and a gentle touch of your rear.
“Welcome back.” She takes your bag. “Excited or something?”
“Maybe just a little.” You follow her to the dining room.
“I must confess,” Hazelmere murmurs. “We are a bit anxious.” Mathias is setting the table as you walk in.
“Oh,” You hesitate to sit just yet. “Is something wrong?”
Hazelmere tucks her hair behind her ear. “There is a possibility,” she says softly. “It is why Mathias and I were, at first, hesitant to bring you in. We liked you so much that we forgot ourselves.” She motions for you to sit. As you take your seat, Mathias fills your glass with cold water.
“It almost went too far last night, we caught ourselves before we slipped.” Hazelmere takes on a serious expression. “Which is why before we can do anything else, we must confess our secret.”
“What?” You chuckle nervously. “Have you killed someone?”
Mathias stands behind Hazelmere’s chair. “If we are not careful.”
Your smile drops. “Well if anyone isn’t careful they...” You gulp nervously. “Please, don’t sugarcoat it. Just say it. Pull off the band aid. I can’t… I can’t take it if you string it out any further.”
Hazelmere looks to Mathias for support, and they hold each other's hands. They then look back at you, ruby eyes fixed on your gaze.  “Hazelmere and I are vampires,” Mathias says.
You look back and forth between them, your heart slowly sinking. You go from confused to angry and back to confusion again, then disbelief. Finally you throw your head back and start laughing. “What the fuck?” you cackle.
“Dove?” Mathias inquires.
You slam your hands on the table. “What the fuck? I told you not to string me along! What is it? That’s not funny!”
“It isn’t,” Hazelmere says cooly. “It is serious. It is who we are.” She stands up and faces you. “Want us to show you?”
You snort and roll your eyes. “Sure, show me the Party City vampire teeth. Go ahead!”
Hazelmere opens her mouth, and while her teeth are indeed sharp they aren’t anything you would consider vampiric. Then the corners of her mouth split open, cracking back towards her ears. Her jaw unhinges and her teeth jut out, and fangs slips from pink gums like a cobra’s about to strike. You leap up in your chair, pushing it back and knocking it over as you try to get further away from her.
Hazelmere closes her jaw and slips her fingers along her lips. “Party City enough for you?”
“What the fuck?” you whimper.
“Do you want to leave?” Mathias asks. “We have no intention of hurting you, and that is what you should know first and foremost.”
You cup your hands around your mouth. “Give me a second?”
Hazelmere returns to Mathias’ side and takes hold of his hands.  You take several deep breaths then shake your hands out. “Okay, okay, okay. You could have ripped me open last night, but you didn’t.” You begin pacing. “Both of you had ample time to eat me alive, but you didn’t.” You  slip your hands around the sides of your neck. “Oh fuck. I don’t know.”
“We didn’t want to hide from you anymore,” Mathias says softly. “We wanted to share all of us with you. It wasn’t fair.”
You turn and look at them, still beautiful, so strange. “I was so excited to be around you that I ignored a lot of things. Things that make sense now.” You squeeze your eyes shut tight. “What else?”
They shake their heads. “What else?”
“Yeah! What else?” You walk closer towards them. “Werewolves? Ghosts? Anything else?” You scoff.
“There is always something else,” Mathias says with uncertainty. “That is just how the world works.”
“Ah.” You nod. “Okay. I need a drink.” You walk away from the dining room and into the parlor where you grab a bottle from the shelf and just start drinking from it. “Oh god, this is disgusting!” You take another swig, then set it back.
“Careful,” Hazelmere warns.
You sit down on the sofa and take a deep breath. “I have feelings for vampires. I think I’m done being careful.”
They sit down on either side of you and each touch a hand. You hold their palms and squeeze tight. “You’re not gonna kill me or turn me or anything?”
Hazelmere smiles. “Only if you ask.”
You laugh softly and nod your head. “I’m still a little scared.”
“It’s all right,” Mathias murmurs. “We’re willing to work with you until you feel comfortable again.”
You let go of their hands and scoop up your hair, using a tie on your wrist to pull it up. You shake as you do it, messing it up several times before you drop your hands again. “I want to trust you, both of you. So I need to know...”
“You don’t have to do this,” Mathias says. “If you’re scared, you don’t need to prove to us anything.”
You shake your head. “Please. I want to know.”
“Are you sure?” Hazelmere whispers.
“I trust you.”
Her fingers glide across your neck before she kisses you softly. Mathias watches, holding your hand tight as her jaw unhinges. Her breath beats against your skin, and the sharp prick of her fangs makes your cry. Mathias lifts your wrist, kissing it before he bites. You close your eyes as tears flow, feeling a strange sense of suction. It ends shortly, and both pull away.
The bite marks on your wrist are almost invisible, and aside from some soreness on your neck there is barely a sign of Hazelmere’s bite either.
“We have control,” Hazelmere assures you. “We are old and have power over our bloodlust. We will not harm you.”
“It would kill us if we did.” Mathias adds.
You kiss Mathias softly, turning and kissing Hazelmere in return. “I believe you.”
They both embrace you, hugging you between them and kissing you all over your face. “Did I taste good?” you ask out of curiosity.
“As good as last night,” Hazelmere purrs.
You stay up late talking to them, falling asleep before you go to bed. You wake up late in the afternoon to find yourself in a dark room, with Mathias and Hazelmere on either side of you. The lights are extremely dim, just enough so you can see. As you begin to stir, Mathias reaches out and puts his arms around you. “Stay in bed,” you tell him.
“I am in bed,” he chuckles. His kisses go down the back of your neck and shoulder. “I just wanted to tell you good morning.”
Hazelmere stretches and rolls over. “Sleep well.”
“Yes,” you breathe. “You two don’t need to get up.”
Hazelmere kisses you. “As long as the curtains are closed and we do not know the time, what does it matter?”
Mathias turns your head, stealing kisses as Hazelmere touches you. Your stomach interrupts the seductive atmosphere, growling to make its presence known and demanding very bluntly for sustenance.
Hazelmere chuckles and moves aside. “There is food in the kitchen. I would go get you something, but I cannot remember if I closed all the curtains.”
You’re chuckling in embarrassment. “I am so sorry.”
“Oh please.” Mathias laughs. “There should be coffee. Go get yourself something to eat. We’ll rest a bit more.”
“Take your time too. No rush for today.” Hazelmere sighs as she lies back down.
You put on a robe and step into the hallway, closing the door as the light automatically brightens for you. Sunlight floods the kitchen, since the main window is not shuttered. You make yourself coffee and help yourself to the contents of the fridge. You find your purse, checking emails and texts you missed while you enjoy a quiet meal. Your wrist and neck itch a little bit where they bit you, almost like mosquito bites. There is no evidence aside from that though. You realize everything you know about vampires is from stories and horror movies. It could all be blown out of proportion or wrong.
Finishing up your food, you make your way back upstairs. You go back into the bedroom and find the lights are brighter. Mathias is alone on the bed, posing, wearing his pink robe.
“She left you unattended?” you ask playfully. “What if someone were to come and steal you away?”
Mathias sits up as you crawl onto the foot of the bed. “I’m sure she’d welcome the chase. She’s taking a shower right now. Did you have a good meal?”
“Yes, I feel much better.” You stroke your hand up his leg, and feel he’s wearing stockings and garters. “Dressed up?”
“Just a little.” He closes the gap between you, kissing and pulling you into his lap. His hands grip around your rear, squeezing it playfully. “Is it all right if I disrobe you?” he asks.
You grin and kiss the tip of his nose. “Only if I can do the same to you.”
He unfastens the tie around your waist, tossing the robe aside. Under his robe, you find him dazzling in baby pink lingerie. “You look adorable,” you purr.
“I thought you might enjoy it.” He bites his lip as you run your hands down his body.
“Very cute set.” You cup the front of the lacy panties, feeling him hard just inside.
Mathias whimpers. “I can get you one if you like.”
You kiss him as you stroke him through the panties, suckling his tongue until you pull back. You press your lips to his ear and moan. “Can I suck your cock?”
He shudders and giggles. “Thank you for asking. I for one would love it.”
He arches his hips as you pull him from the panties. His shaft is soft white, the glans cotton candy pink. He’s quite thick and heavy, curving at the head, which is pierced with a silver hoop. “No wonder you like pink so much.” You swirl your fingertip around the slit and jiggle the piercing. “It suits you so well.”
Mathias’ grin stretches, growing so that his mouth splits back to his ears. “As long as you like it.”
Kneeling, you kiss and lick him, dragging your lips down the shaft and back up, pressing your tongue against him. “You’re perfect, dove.” His hand rubs up and down your back. “I love how you feel.”
You sink your lips around him, slurping him up greedily. Mathias lets out a sweet cry, sounding quite adorable. You lift your head, kissing his glans. “I’m not very good at taking it too deep. My gag reflex barely lets me brush my teeth.”
Mathias moans. “I’m happy with whatever you want to do to me, dove.”
You kiss his thighs and belly, rising to straddle in his lap. “I want you inside.”
“I’ve never loved those words more.” He throws you down onto the bed and climbs on top of you. His long hair falls in your face as he looks down upon you. He’s so still for a moment before pushing your legs up over your head. “What a perfect vision,” he whispers. He looks down, watching as he pushes inside. “Hazelmere was right about you.”
You focus on him inside you, thick, hard, and a little cool. You squeeze around him, wanting to feel every inch. He moves slowly, taking his time to go deeper.
“You’re so wet,” he purrs. “I love the sound.”
You mewl softly. “It gets messy.”
Mathias smirks. “I like messes.”
The bathroom door opens, and Hazelmere strust out. She’s rubbing a towel to her hair, but otherwise she’s completely naked.
“Just in time.” She tosses the towel aside and crawls onto the bed. She gets behind Mathias so she can watch. “You two look made for each other.” You feel her fingers grab his testicles, while the other reaches around to massage your clit.
“Starling!” he cries out.
Hazelmere chuckles and kisses his ass. “Does she feel good? So warm and wet and deep?”
“Yes, she’s driving me crazy.”
She moves up, lying down beside you. Your legs curl around Mathias’ waist and she kisses you. “Wait right here. I have something for this.” She gets up and goes back to the bathroom.
Mathias’ hips move harder, and you cry out. “Is this where you get rough?”
“Close.” He stills and kisses.
Hazelmere returns with black straps around her hips that hold a neon pink phallus in place. She smirks, stroking it slowly as you watch. “Ready, Mathias?”
“Is that for you?” you giggle to Mathias.
“She’ll take you shopping for yours.” He starts to move again, slowly, as Hazelmere comes up onto the bed behind him. He moans as she prepares him, slipping her fingers inside and smearing the lube around. Mathias hunkers on top of you, moaning loudly into your ear as Hazelmere takes her place.  Her first deep thrust pushes Mathias harder into you. After that, your breath gets stolen many times.
It feels as if there is no beginning and no end. The three of you are intertwined, never ending, never beginning. It is almost frightening, yet your body craves and desires more. Mathias bites you, and his moans vibrate against your throat. Deep inside his ejaculation is hard and sudden, yet he keeps moving. He thrusts against you and Hazelmere, groaning with his passion. He throws his head back, blood dripping from his lips, which Hazelmere licks away. Your eyes cross and roll back into your head. You leave this world for a breath, returning as Mathias collapses upon you.
Hazelmere pulls away from him, taking off the harness and lying down beside you. Finding stamina, Mathias crawls between her legs, licking and touching her hungrily. Hazelmere pulls you into her arms, and you kiss her weakly.
“Bite me,” you whisper.
“You sure?” Her lips brush against your shoulder.
You nod, and her teeth sink in. She moans against you, throbbing as she tastes you and Mathias touches her.
After lying in heavy silence, you exhale and stretch. Both of them touch you, brushing their hands down your body. “How do you feel?” Hazelmere asks.
“A little dizzy, but the good outweighs that.” You smile up as Mathias rises, chipper and ready for more action.
“I’ll go fetch you a drink. Just some orange juice for a boost. It should be dark out now.” He strides away in his cute pink lingerie.
You roll over onto Hazelmere’s chest, snuggling between her breasts while her fingers comb through your hair. When Mathias returns you drink your juice, then massage his back and legs. “We have had many lovers in our long lives,” Hazelmere murmurs as she watches you. “But we have never invited someone else into our family.” She strokes your arm and pushes our hair from your face. “I have a feeling, deep in my gut, you will be my next creation.”
Your heart races wildly. “Why me?”
“It is hard to put into words,” Mathias sighs. “It is just that we know. We have been searching for you, and now, we have found you.”

How do you think magnus met camille and when?was it before she saved him from killing himself?
again this is tagged but just to make sure, tw here for suicide/suicidal ideation, queerphobia, queerphobic violence, death penalty, mentions of institutionalization and castration, and abuse. oh, also mentions of the US civil war. and they might be perceived as being treated insensitively because they are mostly background for the story, but i couldn't find a way to tell it without them or to talk about them in any other way. so just a reminder that these are real, serious issues, not just fictional, that actually affect real people; don't grow insensitive to them and the horrors that they mean both in and outside of fiction
i think magnus met camille shortly (by immortal standards) before the bridge thing. mostly because from my analysis (link. it's not very detailed but has my sources so shrug) of the type of photograph + clothing him, her, and ragnor are wearing in that one picture, it seems to have been taken in the 1840s. but george was (if i'm not mistaken) wearing an US civil war uniform in magnus' memories, and that was in the 1860s. and because magnus hadn't had any relationships after camille and we know they weren't polyamorous, this means that picture was actually taken before magnus and camille were together
however, i don't think him and camille were actually close before the bridge thing. i think they met at a few parties, had a good time together, but nothing really worthy of note. mostly they took that picture because they were at a party and they could and magnus kept it because it was this fun little picture of him and his best friend and the fun girl at a party, you know?
at the time pictures were still a huge novelty and a special occasion, and that party they were at was like extra fancy so they had a photographer and camille - who had been totally trying to get on magnus' good side from the beginning because she knows how powerful he is, everyone does, and he could make a great ally if she plays her cards right - wants to take a picture with him and well, why not? and of course magnus keeps it because again, it is a special thing
and then shortly after that he met george and they got in a relationship, so him and camille didn't see a lot of each other except for when they met here and there; she was still polite to him and still wanted him as a friend because again he's useful but she scoffs at the fact that he is with some fucking mundie man. not that she's gonna say that out loud, of course, but still
and then bam, the civil war happens and george goes to fight for the union and things get... more complicated. but magnus also understands that this is something george has to do (especially as a poc fighting against slave owners like... i know the position of east asians is wildly different than that of black ppl in the US but still, there was fucking segregation) so, you know, ok. he doesn't want to lose george that soon but what can he do except shower george in protective spells and charms, visit him and hope for the best?
and then (this is my own hc) i think they find out about george being mlm. and like this was the don't ask don't tell times and the death penalty for homosexuality in the US was only fully abolished in 1873 (link to source), so like... i don't know if he got the capital punished or if he was attacked by other soldiers or what exactly happened, but the fact is that george died for it, and magnus only found out that it had happened when it was done. because he had spelled him against being killed at war, but it never occured to him to protect george against this
so in his head, george was killed because of him. because they found out about their relationship somehow, and magnus had been back in england and couldn't do anything about it. and george was gone
and the guilt just hit magnus hard and the immortality blues had already been hitting him a lot because he was turning 200 which i think would be an important turning point where the difference in how time passes and how quicker mundanes' lives seem to run by starts to really hit. and he just felt alone and out of place and guilty because he killed george, just like he killed his mother (extra angst: maybe instead of being killed george would have been expelled from the army and sent to an asylum, or castrated [which had been a penalty for "sodomy" in the US since 1778 - link to source], and the horror of either option led him to commit suicide as the final resort. so you know, the parallels between magnus' mom and george are even stronger, plus losing someone to suicide or even just being exposed to stories of it tends to enhance suicidal ideation [link]. this is true particularly for young people but applies in a more general sense too, especially in this case where the trauma of losing someone to it is directly associated). and the pain of losing a lover so horrifically and all the context leads him to the bridge
and who is there if not camille herself. it was late at night so of course the vampires were the people he was most likely to find, and magnus is powerful; there is that aura about him and i think vampires are probably attuned to it due to their hypersenses, can smell it or whatever. so she finds him and realizes the situation he is in and well, it looks like she has an amazing opportunity to add him to her list of assets
so yeah she sits there and talks to him and listens to his problems and comforts him over losing george, convinces him not to jump, and just paints herself as that kind little savior that sweeped in and saved his life. and then she checks in on him, because she knows that he is extra vulnerable with everything that's happened; she encourages him not to tell his friends about it, because you never know how they will react. he can trust her, it will be their little secret. and eventually she snakes her way into his trust, then his affection, then his love, and starts to build her web of manipulation and abuse that we already know

I have been unbelievably busy for all of 2020 so far. Starting a new job and crunching to finish an old one, it's been very good but it has also meant that I haven't had the downtime I'd have liked in order to write long screeds about when drums sound good in songs so my December and January playlists unfortunately never got finished. They will exist as 'lost' playlists in the grimelords canon where you will simply have to listen to them and have your own thoughts about the songs instead of having your judgement clouded by me saying things like 'this sounds nice' and 'I love when the guitar goes woo-eee'.
You can listen to them here:
December https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4crPEVSPwftPpWl14xUrXF
January https://open.spotify.com/playlist/25MP7onYLCwWRYBIi0u3yc
As far as this, my February playlist goes: It's great! It's two and a half hours. The songs sounds nice and the guitars go woo-eee. I was worried I wouldn't be able to listen to as much music with my new job but it turns out I'm listening to more than ever which is extremely nice. Please enjoy, and if you'd like to subscribe to this playlist please do so here: https://tinyletter.com/grimelords

Ballad Of The Skeletons - Allen Ginsberg, Paul McCartney, Phillip Glass and Lenny Kaye: I had a dim childhood memory of this 1996 Hottest 100 funny skeleton song that my sister randomly brought up this month and was was shocked to find out that somewhere deep in my brain the part where the electric chair skeleton says “hey what’s cooking???” was still stored. I was also shocked to find out that the funny skeleton song I remembered from when I was a kid was actually a collaboration between Allen Ginsberg, Paul McCartney and Phillip Glass and was an unexpected hit on MTV and Triple J in 1996 for an as yet unknown reason.
I Can Go With You - Sam Burton: This song came up in my Discover Weekly, and I was so excited to listen to more of this 70s singer songwriter I've never heard of before who has no doubt had a long and illustrious career and was shocked to find out that not only is this song from 2020, it is also the first and so far only release by Sam Burton and his debut album is coming out sometime this year. I love how plain it is, and the first time I heard it it made no impression on me until a couple of hours later when I realised I was humming the melody to myself. It has this decepitive simplicity to it, and it sounds like a song you've always known which is really about as good a compliment as you can give a song. I also love this statement from him: “I was writing a song a day for 30 days as a personal challenge to myself. I Can Go With You came near of that practice and I considered it a throwaway at the time. After recording most of the album I still needed a couple more songs and decided to throw it on and we recorded it live followed by two others. When I listened back it ended up being one of the tracks I was happiest with on the record.” I love when artists are asked about songs and they have no divine inspiration to relate, just a process of daily work where they're like "well, I wrote it, like I always do. Did the chords and the words and everthing just like normal. I write hundreds of these things and this one came out pretty good. I don't know what else to tell you."
Wild Dogs - Colter Wall: This is a song by Billy Don Burns who you can probably expect to see on this playlist next month, and who as I understand it is one of these 'real' country guys that have been around for a million years and only ever had success when other people sang their songs. So it's very nice of Colter Wall to continue that tradition for him. I love the way this song takes the metaphor to a place of almost uncomfortable literalism, a tryst metamophising into something private, bloody and feral. The subtle way the lap steel whines slowly along in the background before stepping out and taking centre stage once the song picks up steam near the end is a marvel too.
Tom's Diner - Suzanne Vega: I had a live version of this randomly recommended to me by youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkYPge6ZKSQ and it made me see this song that I'd always been sort of aware of in a new light and really properly appreciate it for the first time. Somehow I'd never noticed the last verse where it moves from literalism to memories, and of course that's sort of the moment that ties the whole song together. What I really appreciate about the acapella arrangement is that it feels like this is a song that's existed a million times before but she's the first person to actually write it down and record it. Everyone's made up a little dishwashing song or a little walking song, reciting some to-do list in your head. It's an entire genre that exists under people's breath for a few minutes and gets immediately forgotten.
If You Don't Know Now, You Never Will - Drugdealer: I could have sworn this was a Tobias Jesso Jr song. I really just assumed it was until I looked at the credits. It's such a nice song though and I'm glad this sort of 70s californian vibe is making a quiet comeback because it is just uniformly pleasant and it's nice to hear these sorts of arrangements, with the accenting violin runs and things like that. All the extra decorations and ornamentations that have sort of disappeared.
Crimson Tide - Destroyer: I absolutely love this new Destroyer album because it just feels like such pure uncut Destroyer. I’ve always thought of him as a sort of 400 year old vampire lounge singer who is just amusing himself at this point and so the cover art has really confirmed my suspicions on that front. The lyrics through this whole album are so good, the sort of stream of consciousness strangeness like ‘when lightning strikes twice the funeral goes completely insane’ that takes a on such gravity because he sings it with complete deadpan seriousness.
Truth (feat Alicia Keys and The Last Artful, Dodger) - Mark Ronson: I didn't really give this album a chance when it came out but ever since I found out Alicia Keys is good now (Time Machine) I've been looking for more good Alica Keys work and found one here. The Last Artful, Dodger is one of the worst artist names I think I've ever heard but she absolutely kills it on the way she says biiiiitch so I'll forgive it.
Surf & Turf - Boldy James + The Alchemist: Alchemist's production on this whole album is so incredible. He really just lets Boldy go and doesn't get in his way like good production should. Especially on the opening verse where Boldy James sticks with that loping flow for so long in 3s over 4 that matches that arpeggios in the beat, it's just a perfect harmony of rapper and producer.
Fat Mac - Duke Deuce: Misogyny in rap is a real issue that nobody seems really allowed to talk about because it's obviously very complicated, and this song some real classic 'stay in the kitchen' type woman hating in it and is basically incredibly callous and cruel throughout. However this beat is hot and there is also a part about a third of the way through where he says "fuck her till that pussy fart" and then makes a big fart noise, so.
Set It Up (feat. Trina) - Kamaiyah: I only found out about Kamaiyah's fantastic 2016 album A Good Night In The Ghetto about two weeks before her new one came out so I've been on a real Kamaiyah hype for a little while now. She's just fantastic. I love this song because I love the part where Trina seemingly out of the blue threatens to piss in my mouth. The first time I heard it I said 'wow!' out loud.
Come As You Are - Greg Phillinganes: There's something going on with the pop math in this song that I just can't put my finger on. It feels for all intents and purposes like this should be a hit. The melody is great. The big synth voice is great, it's got extremely fatty bass. It's great! But something about the structure of it is just off, it's got too many sections or something. Which kind of makes me love it more really.
Devotion - Pure Bathing Culture: What surprised me the most about this song is the secret shredding happening throughout. It feels like a sort of clean and cool guitar that hasn’t existed in the wild since the Lethal Weapon soundtrack and it adds such an energy to this already completely wonderful song.
Paper Cup - Real Estate + Sylvan Esso: The production on this song is just so beautiful. The violin melody and the pillow soft synths really add such an extra dimension to it. The tone on everything really. The guitar in the solo. Every time I listen to this song I just want to listen to it again because it goes down so smooth.
Mark Zuckerberg - Nap Eyes: I’m a very big fan of the way this song transitions from a sort of TMBG novelty song halfway through into a lonely and beautiful thing instead. It’s like he got distracted and wandered off in the middle of his set but the camera followed him. I also haven’t heard a lyric in a long time that made me bark laugh so instantly as “And what does he do with all that sand? He collects sand right? I think I read that somewhere. Seems innocent enough.”
Viking Hair - Dry Cleaning: I fell in love with this band immediately on hearing this song. The way the spoken lyrics sit in a place of almost coherence, dipping between mysterious phrases and earnest admissions feels like Life Without Buildings for a new generation. I love the feeling of a huge crush at the centre of this song that comes through achingy in every single word, even when she's talking about abandoned refrigerators.
LeBron James - Do Nothing: This is my number one song this month I think. I've listened to it every single day and I cannot wait to see what this band does once they've got more than a couple of songs out. It's my absolute favourite kind of lyrics: the kind that sounds like you just wrote down every one-sided phone conversation you overheard on the bus and then the music is some halfway point between Black Midi and Franz Ferdinand. What else do you need!
Can I Receive The Contact? - The Spirit Of The Beehive: The Spirit Of The Beehive's album is one of the best I heard this month. The way the production incorporates sound collage and samples without diluting the immediacy of the songwriting is really something special that feels hard to pull off in a rock context but sounds effortless through this whole album. The way this shifts at the end into the odd time section is so great and really the way the whole album flows like one long track is just amazing. Please listen, I'm obsessed.
An Air Conditioned Man - Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever: There is so much space in Rolling Blackouts songs. They just go and go, sitting in this great jam space without feeling shaggy. The tempo across the album stays pretty consistently at this breezy, upbeat, driving speed that makes it feel like as soon as one song ends the next one just picks up exactly where it left off. It almost feels like a studio confines them and they'd be better off just recording their album live at a show where every song can go for 8 minutes like it wants to.
Leak -Truth, yesnoyesnoyes- - Boris: I got to see Boris and Merzbow this month, which was a great treat for me but it was also at a seated theatre venue which was a very strange choice. Sitting down and clapping politely as Merzbow pressed the screaming button feels odd, like being at an 1800s World's Fair show about the wonders of electricity or quite literally like being the guy in the chair getting blown away by the speakers in the Maxell ads. I bought earplugs for the show but ended up pulling them out for the last three songs or so to properly experience it, and it was fucking great. Something I was thinking about after the show is that it's interesting how Boris mostly have clean vocals, and really approach metal as an idea from and angle that's more shoegaze than Slayer. Aside from the immense volume, there isn't a lot about their music that I would describe as agressive, even most of what Merzbow added to the set was just extra feedback frequency noise, not atonal agression. I don't mean this in a trve kvlt way, more like it's interesting how they've taken the aesthetics of metal and refined them into pure amplifer worship, in their words, by either playing straight drone, or just playing normal hard rock at inhuman volumes. Boris are very good is what I'm saying, and I can't wait to listen to more of their extremely large discography.
Nameless Streets - Defeater: I've never really listened to much hardcore and I'm not really sure why. I've listened to Defeater's first two albums to death though so maybe it's time to branch out. What I love about this song, and this band in general is the vocal delivery. In a lot of agressive music from metal to screamo, because the agression and emotion is always sitting at a 10 the nuance can get lost and it becomes a sort of white noise, but Defeater have a nice way of backing off musically and vocally here and there to let the hard hits really hit hard. The outro to this song is also some absolutely world class snare work, building a tension bed in the simplest way thats relieved when the rest of the band comes crashing back in.
Boys In Town - Divinyls: I love the true desperation in this song. The trapped in a small town, surrounded by fuckers stress that gives way in the second half to just screaming "get me out of here!!". I am also interested in the evolution of the phrase 'too much, too young' and would like to know whether this song is referencing the song by The Specials, and if the Defeater song on this playlist is referencing this song or The Specials song, or if all three came up with it independently. It's a simply enough phrase, I suppose they could have. Who cares, really.
Body By Crystal - Spike Fuck: Come on a journey with me and imagine a world where Alex Cameron makes good music. That's Spike Fuck! The sort of burned out, past their prime singer desperate for a hit in any sense type of character - except actually put together with some heart and emotion and not an 80s comic book writer's understanding of human lows. I cannot wait to hear more from Spike Fuck.
Rogue Wave - Aesop Rock: It is something of a marvel how consistently high quality Aesop Rock's work is. For all his verbosity and expansive vocabulary he seems to never veer into white guy rap god flexing for the sake of it. Even a song like this that's 3 minutes of dense verses with nothing resembling a hook doesnt feel exhausting, it just feels like a series of extremely pleasing words and images like "take it where the warlocks lock horns, soda pop, popcorn / top notch gore set to Bach over fog horns" that makes my brain go "nice".
Momentary Bliss (feat. Slowthai and Slaves) - Gorillaz: I love the strange rollout Gorillaz are doing for this album, building the tracklist one song at a time. It's a nice way to force close listening, especially in songs with odd structures like this. I love hearing how different prouction changes Slowthai's approach; on this and Deal Wiv It that he did with Mura Masa it feels a lot brighter than anything on Nothing Great About Britain and there's a playfulness in his flow that comes through accordingly. Gorillaz are always moving around musically but I love how much of a live band feel this has compared to the more studioy sound that killed their last album for me.
We Will Always Love You (feat. Blood Orange) - The Avalanches: I am so excited at the possibility of a new Avalanches album already, and this is the perfect song to have as a lead single because it functions more like a teaser. Like 'would you like an hour more of this kind of beautiful, loving dream?'
Tar Sequence - Lalo Schifrin: I found out a little while ago that the local news theme when I was growing up was actually this song from the score to Cool Hand Luke, and according to a bunch of other guys in the youtube comments it was the local news theme for a lot of stations across America as well. The scene is of a prison road gang working under the blazing sun, and I'm sure someone could write a thinkpiece about the soundtrack to the nightly news, and really the platonic ideal of news themes in general stemming from the score to a scene about prison labour. But not me! I'm just going to write this little post and say we all owe Lalo Schifrin our lives for inventing the sonic pallette of kung fu AND the news, which is an incredible achievement whichever way you slice it.
When You - Tha Pope: It's a little bit of a shame that footwork is 'over' now but I suppose that's the way of things. The intro to this song is an absolute all timer for me. The delay soaked tag, the extended organ lick and then a total gear shift into this shrieking vocal sample that sounds like something has gone wrong but is revealed in actuality to be the centre of the whole track. I absolutely love Pope's little adlib at the start, and halfway through when he brings it back - it injects some real humanity into this cacophonous, volatile song and lets you know someone's done this on purpose, they've not just turned every dial to 10 and pressed play.
Jonny/Jonny (Reprise) - Faye Webster: I am absolutely in love with the tone of Faye Webster's voice and especially the way she slowly slides up to the note at the end of every line in the verse. This is a song that belongs to the great genre of songs that sound like they were entirely written and performed while laying on the floor and staring at the ceiling. The reprise here comes back at the end of the album and I love it so much. It feels like a Sex And The City monologue set to music, an underexplored genre I'd definitely like to hear more of.
Holes - Matt Berninger: Matt Berninger of The National covered Mercury Rev's Holes for a series of charity 7"s that Planned Parenthood are doingand I really love his take on it. It's a difficult song to cover because it is so beloved, and I think he does really well to not smooth out the arrangement into any sort of easy listening version. The rumbling piano and the extra vocals that mirror the original saw sound near the end are just wonderful. The part that always breaks my heart in this song is the "bands" line at the end and he really does it perfectly without being overdramatic.
Ta Aro - Nadia Reid: I love the way this song is just soaked in tension and potential energy. She has a beautiful way of holding a note just past the edge of her breath, like when she sings 'glory hallelujah' or 'I am stronger' and in the wordless refrain that just draws me in. Then the way it all closes in on itself and shadows close in at the end while it swells to this beautiful thunderstorm of sound. Just great.
Purify - Neurosis: Someone had a tweet a while ago that was like 'listen to a new album every day in February and write about it' and I thought 'fuck it why not' and started doing that. I kept a little note in my phone of every album I listened to that I'd never heard before, and I ranked them out of 5 so I could remember which ones I liked. I ended up listening to 49 new albums which surprised me, and it was surprisingly easy to do as well so I've decided to keep doing it in March as well. Highly recommended. A nice side effect of constantly searching for new things to listen to is it's given me a chance to hear bands that I've always heard about and know the name of but never actually listened to for one reason or another, which is how I got to Neurosis. It's nice to hear this kind of industrial 90s metal that I'd only ever previously heard in Tool from another angle, and it is especially nice to hear bagpipes in a drone metal context - a thought I'd had independently about a week before hearing this album and was glad to have willed into existence before me.
Shallow Sun - Real Estate: Time! I love a song about aging that mentions specific years and ages so you can count along on your fingers. '25 in 2010... so he was 24 when they put out in their first album.. 39 in 24.. so he's... 35 now.. and i'm 28... which means I'm... 3 albums behind..'
Quand Vas Tu Retrer - Melody's Echo Chamber: I'll listen to any song in 5/4. It is simply groovy. This song is so beautifully textured it feels like you can just get completely lost in the sound while the groove moves it along.
Living Through Another Cuba - XTC: I think I've posted this song on one of these playlists before but fuck it, the more time passes the more I think this might be one of the best songs ever written and a complete and total encapsulation of the cold war mood. The absolute maniac resigned powerlessnes on full display, screaming and shouting about pullings fins from an atom bomb and the absolute certainty that even if the world isn't destroyed this time it'll all come around again soon enough anyway.
Time - U.S. Girls: I am a huge proponent of the long song at the end of the record as a concept, and really I believe every song should be the long song at the end of the record if at all possible. This amount of colour in this jam is just incedible, it never gets weighed down or waylaid it just keeps moving though an ever shifting kaleidoscope and I absolutely love it. It also reminds me of Los Bitchos who were on one of my secret lost playlists from December so it's nice to have their vibe represented here at least. This song also interestingly ties into a thought I was having this week about the limits of music wherein time is the only immutable constant. In all of life music is an inescapable constant of course, but in music especially compared to visual art or written art, time is an inexorable force. You simply cannot bend time in music, a song or performance will always have a duration that will define it, short or long, which cannot be muted or played with in the same way that rhythm or tonality can. 4'33" is a good example of that, being devoid of everything except time. When there is nothing, there is still time. Canyons of time.
Bad Magic - Weyes Blood: I got to see Weyes Blood a couple of weeks ago and I feel extremely blessed that I did. She's just amazing. She played this song solo as her last encore, and she's in a sort of interesting position of blowing up majorly on her fourth album so people (myself included) weren't overly familiar with her older stuff. So when she said 'this is a song called Bad Magic' everyone clapped politely and one woman right up the back screamed "oh my GOD??" which is the kind of personal, just for her, singular experience I'm always here for. Hearing this song for the first time in that setting has really made me fall in love with it. The thing that's always alienated me a little abot Weyes Blood's earlier work, and the thing she changed so dramatically on Titanic Rising is the structuring of her songs. Titanic Rising embraces pop songwriting so wonderfully where her earlier work was so much shaggier and harder to access as a result - but in this song I love it. This song is meandering and long and wanders around in circles and I'm here for every second of it.

who do u love?
Tumblr media
pairing: hoseok x reader x jungkook
description/warnings: dirty talking, fingering, handjobs (I mean nobody will complain), unprotected sex, hobi being a dirty sunshine, oral sex (male receiving), jungkook being a little possessive, masturbation, some bad stuff going through their minds, but a lot of fluff, Jungkook is smitten
(I know it’s weird but this fic is from a dream and monsta x)
genre: smut
words: 3.4k
-
You have never felt more attracted to a person before seeing Hoseok into one of the outfits you had prepared for him with the help of their stylist. It was not your responsibility to help him or any of the boys but regardless you always loved interacting with all of his team and friends. And being the loyal girlfriend he ever wanted, spending time as much as possible with him became the most precious gift you could offer him.
Every now and then you would see an outfit or a haircut in one of the magazines that you would swear it would look amazingly hot on Hoseok. You could see him nod in agreement with your choices, no doubt he liked the design or the colour.
Jungkook on the other side, the maknae of the group, enjoyed having you pick up his outfits because as he said plenty of times by now “Noona has good taste unlike our stylist that wants me to be a coconut”. A loud wave of laugh echoed into your apartment every time Kookie decided to declare war with anyone who wanted him to stay pure even though he despised the haircut. He wanted to change so you decided to be of help with the tremendous help that Jin provided.
The day they finished with their whole schedule, which was the time for their annual break, you asked Hoseok to bring the boys over for dinner. At the moment, it seemed a good idea to have everyone gather around since it had been such a long time that all of you had been together. Little did you know that Jin would invade your personal space and have you leave your temple as he called and make you sit down and enjoy Hoseok’s love.
The so called temple was your kitchen which seemed to be rather cleaner than the times Hoseok attempted to cook for you after long nights and days when your work schedule was worse than his. You didn’t complain and why would you; it was nice to have some time to relax with everyone with the extra privilege of having Jin cook for you.
In no time, Jin called all of you to join him in the kitchen to eat quickly, the food was better to be eaten hot. Namjoon and Yoongi had already fallen asleep on the sofa after fighting over who is the one who loses the most to Jungkook. Video games was a topic rather hurtful for everyone since in their head the one who was the best was Jungkook and then Jin. The third place was the one awaiting for the rightful successor with Namjoon and Yoongi trying to claim it.
With their snore accompanying the silence in the kitchen, Jin was filling up the plates with food but there was no space left for you to sit. With the corner of your eye you saw Jungkook shyly getting up from the stool, a nice gesture of him to offer you a seat but Hoseok nodded for him to sit back down. Hoseok patted his lap smiling “Come here, baby”
Half munching on your food you made a weird noise meant to be a reply before almost choking to your noodles. Hoseok’s worried expression made you feel embarrassed for a weird reason, not so weird to be exact; last night he was not so worried when he had you on your knees, his cock down your throat. It was feeling heavy on your tongue and you could not stop rubbing your thighs to find some sort of relief. You kept clenching around nothing while Hoseok was praising you over how good it felt to have you gag on his cock. It was killing you to hear his voice deepen every time you swallowed around the tip of his cock.
“Baby? Are you here with us?”
Hoseok’s voice broke you from your daydream, already too good to be true, no escape from your current situation. It became too complicated for you to keep your face straight after realising the situation you got yourself into; Jin and Taehyung side to side looking at you as if they knew the exact scenario slowly unravelling into that mind of yours. Unlike Jin and Tae, Jungkook had a cute worrisome look on his face, perfectly mirrored from Hoseok.
“I am.. I am okay.”
The smile you gave everyone may have fooled Jungkook who happily continued devouring the noodles in front of him by getting up to add some more, shoving Jin and Tae out of his way, but those two smirked at the both of you before leaving the kitchen. Hoseok laughed it off unlike you that got terrified. You slowly turned around to face Hoseok only to be met with a devious smile.
“Could you please stop sharing anything we do with Jin? He never keeps secrets!”
“Baby, you should be proud of your skills.” Hoseok lowered his voice while he pressed your back tight against his hard abs, now carefully balancing between biting and licking your earlobe, his breath sending chills straight down to your core. “He appreciated you as much as I did when you sucked my cock. Maybe next time he can watch you from up close”
Hoseok pretended to have dropped the kitchen towel on your lap so he could work his way under your dress. When he met your folds, he softly moaned, one of his hand harshly grabbed your thigh and you knew you were in for a long night.
“You play innocent when you walk around with no panties on.” He carefully moved the stool with his legs against the table to hide your lower body, his fingers now slowly opening your folds and that was when you felt how wet you already were.
“Why are you such a little slut, baby? Oh, fuck.. You are so fuckin’ wet.” Only for a moment, Hoseok pressed you against his lap to feel the bulge hiding underneath his sweatpants. You had done nothing and he already was so hard. “You deserve a good fuck tonight. I want to wreck you. Your sweet cunt is mine. I need to wreck all of you.”
But Hoseok was always so reckless, never able to wait even if it meant fingering you in front of his friend. “W-why? Why are you doing it here?” Between catching your breath and trying to suppress the need to moan, you shoved your nails on his thigh, leaving crescents on him. “Because you deserve to have an audience. You have such a cute fucked up face when you cum, baby. And don’t be shy. You are the one who said you wanted Jungkook to see you get fucked from me.”
When those words left Hoseok’s lips, he inserted another finger inside your pussy, curling them on that sweet spot that always had you come undone. He could hear the sounds your wet pussy was doing but it didn’t stop him, it only made him pick up his pace until he had you break your façade.
“What is it baby? Are you scared you will cum on my fingers? Are you scared little Kookie will see you for the slut you are?” His words were making you feel so hot, every single one of them sending electric waves on your clit that was now getting attacked from his thumb.
A high pitched moan found its way to escape your throat even when you were trying your hardest to remain silent.
“Are you okay noona?”
Jungkook’s doe eyes met yours and during an attempt to make up an excuse you felt it coming; your orgasm hit you so hard that you had to grab the table, your whole body trembling while you maintained eye contact with Jungkook.
You could see the change in his eyes, they were darker, burning your skin, fiercely staring at Hoseok’s hand moving away from your legs. Jungkook knew.
“Um.. I should leave. I am sorry, Noona”
Jungkook got up to leave but Hoseok quickly whispered in your ear.
“This is your chance. If you want that threesome of yours, ask him now.Tell him to go into our bedroom”
“Kookie?”
Once Jungkook heard your voice, his neck snapped around to face you.
“Yes, noona?”
His whole face was glowing whenever looking at you. That’s what you loved about him. Even when Hoseok was looking at you so brightly, he never had the same look Jungkook had. Jungkook’s expression was like the first day of spring; beautiful, bright, pure. He made you feel special. He made you feel as if he was falling in love with you every single time he smiled at you. He confused you to the depths of your heart.
The feeling was horrible when your mind was playing tricks to you. You knew you could not be in love with him; you were in love with Hoseok and you never felt attraction for anyone else apart from Hoseok. Not until the day Jungkook came drunk to your door.
In the heat of the moment, while you kept trying to sober him up and send him to bed, Jungkook confessed he was in love with you. You never told him he confessed to you that night, he would die from embarrassment. But it kept haunting you. He made you question your loyalty to Hoseok, that’s what he did to you.
“Go and wait for me in my bedroom”
There was no explanation needed. Jungkook hurriedly left the kitchen to go to your bedroom. In no less than two minutes you got up with Hoseok’s help and followed him to your bedroom.
Jungkook’s sight on your bed was something you never knew you needed; his long hair on his beautiful face was making him look ethereal if not looking as if he was a vampire, ready to drain you from your last drop of blood.
“Go to him. You can play as long as you want while I am here”
You were quite hesitant to do so but deep inside you wanted to see how it would feel to be with him, not sexually but also emotionally. Being able to physically touch him with no fear, would help you figure out if your emotions were real or a creation of your fantasy.
With no time to waste, you pushed him a little further on the bed, your legs spread along his sides, just enough to feel his bulge on your pussy. You were sure he would be able to feel how wet you were after cumming on Hoseok’s fingers just a few minutes ago.
Jungkook was trembling under your touch but you didn’t want him to lose any minute you could spend together. You couldn’t help but stare into his eyes while your hand made its way down into his sweatpants. There was nothing more erotic than his pure moan; the moment your hand touched the tip of his cock over his boxers he bit his lips, those perfect lips.
“Kiss me.. Please”
You slid your hand into his boxers right before Jungkook crashed his lips on yours, making him moan into the kiss. He was rock hard into your hand, his cock was thicker than Hoseok’s but it was almost the same length. You knew it would feel like heaven to have him inside you and you really wanted to feel him stretch you out, the burning feeling would be amazing.
“You are so hard. Are you always so hard or is it only for me?”
Jungkook started leaving kisses along your jawline and neck, having every part of you worshipped until you heard the door locking. Hoseok was behind you and you only remembered because the noise brought you back to the reality. Your hand never stopped running along Jungkook’s hard cock, long strokes that kept getting quicker thanks to all of the precum that kept leaking from the tip of his cock.
“Noona..” Your name got out of his mouth as if the name of a goddess. This man would be the death of you. He worshipped you more than anyone else.”I am hard because of you”
“Baby.. Nobody would stay sane when you smell so fuckin good. I can smell you from here. I bet you have stained his sweatpants. You are so wet”
Hoseok was now right behind you, you could feel him standing there, watching you. Without even realizing what you were doing you desperately searched for Hoseok’s cock. Once his cock was in your hand you fastened your pace, no need to get any of them harder than they already were.
“Such a needy slut. You want two cocks baby? One is not enough for you?”
You moaned to the profanities Hoseok kept telling you but you couldn’t take it any more. You wanted to feel him inside you. And when you said him, you meant Jungkook. He never took his eyes off of you and neither did you.
“Take it off”
Jungkook blindly obeyed you and slid his sweatpants off, his cock standing proudly on his stomach. He helped you carefully line his cock in your entrance, slowly taking every inch inside you wet pussy while sinking down on his cock.
“Oh fuck..”
With slow movements you moved your hips, trying to adjust to his cock. It was stretching you so well, filling you up better than Hoseok’s cock. Hoseok was an amazing lover but Jungkook had this way of making you feel strangely so satisfied with no effort.
“It’s all about you now baby.”
Hoseok pushed your hand away gently, his hands dropping down on your breasts to play with your nipples. He knew how to pleasure you without having to ask unlike Jungkook that stayed frozen underneath you.
“Move you hips, Jungkook. Fuck her. Don’t make me regret letting you touch her.”
You thanked him for saying something because the moment he said that Jungkook changed the way he was touching you. He became rougher. Jungkook stood up and dropped you on the mattress before grabbing your legs to spread them apart for him. With no warning he got inside you with so much force, his cock stretching you even more if possible than before. It felt so good to have him fuck you raw, you could feel every inch of his cock reaching deeper and deeper inside you.
“Fuck her harder. She likes it hard.”
Jungkook obeyed to Hoseok again and the very first time he slammed his cock hard inside you, you smiled. You enjoyed feeling the pain, the pain he was offering you when trying to make you cum on his cock. Jungkook’s image was out of this world; his long hair stuck on this forehead, sweat dripping down on his neck from the effort of keeping up with your needs.
Unwillingly you started moaning louder forgetting that you had five more people out in the living room. Hoseok came right beside you, turning your head to face his cock.
“We should fill your mouth baby. Nobody should hear you sweet noises.”
Hoseok loved using your mouth as his personal toy. He praised you for how much you enjoyed sucking his cock for hours.
“Open your mouth wider for me baby”
You let Hoseok use you any way he wished since he wasn’t able to use any other of your holes. But Jungkook was making it hard for you to concentrate on it, you could feel the tension on his hands when he grabbed your thighs and brought you closer to him, fucking you faster. You could see him staring at Hoseok fucking your mouth, his expression betraying how annoyed he was feeling that Hoseok was using you when all he was trying to do was please you.
“Hyung, I want to hear her moan”
Hoseok was taken aback from his confession but nonetheless he tried to not create any weird atmosphere, slowly moving to the chair behind you, watching you getting fucked from one of his best friends.
“If you want to hear her moan and cum, rub her clit. It’s not there for decoration”
Hoseok’s last remark made you laugh but you quickly regretted it. Jungkook’s way of pleasuring you was different from anything else you have experienced and now you knew why. The moment he touched your face the electricity you felt was something familiar to you, scary but divine. You were in love with him and so was he.
“I love you”
Those three words were all it took for the both of you to cum. All of your senses were so overwhelmed from the intensity of your orgasm. It was because of him, because of how much he loved you and craved to please you. Breathless, Jungkook looked at you with a terrified expression on his face but before opening his mouth to speak you answered for him.
“I am on the pill. It’s okay. I wanted you to cum inside me”
He kissed you softly on your lips, your fingertips tracing soft touches on his face trying to say something. It was killing you not to be able to say you love him back so you tried any other way you could find to make him feel your love.
“It suits you better. I mean the hair..”
“I let my hair get longer because you said I would look sexier. I want to be hotter for you, Noona. I don’t want to be cute any more. Not for you.”
On the back of your head you kept reminding yourself that it was only a one time thing, Hoseok would never allow it to happen again.
“Come here Jungkook.”
 Hoseok brought  you back to reality when he handed Jungkook his clothes back. He would probably ask him to leave now or so you thought.
“So Kookie. You are in love with my girlfriend, aren’t you?”
He was about to protest but Hoseok caught him off of guard when he spoke again.
“Jin told me the night you came back from that club, drunk as hell. Don’t try to deny it.”
Hoseok turned his eyes on you now.
“And then you, baby. I saw you today how you reacted to his words, to his touch. I know you are still in love with me, I can feel. You can feel it too. But who is it? Who do you love the most?”
You never expected this to happen. You were not prepared to give any answer, not right away. You could not leave Hoseok. You loved him so much and there were so many experiences and adventures you had to share still.
And then Jungkook. Everything felt different with him. So special, so good. You could not give up on him.
“Then who is it?” Hoseok said once more
Jungkook looked you starstruck, eyes filled up with hope. And his next words killed you.
“Who do you love? Is it him or me?”

The Scholarly Adventures of Brain Girl and Blood Dude || Morgan & Harsh
TIMING: Mid July LOCATION: The Scribe HQ PARTIES: @mor-beck-more-problems and @notsoharsh SUMMARY: Morgan and Harsh take a little field trip to read a lot of dusty old books.
Thanks to her super-strength, Morgan was able to pull more books for Harsh’s soul problem than she ever could have on her own. She lead him down the dusty shelves with the glee of a suburbanite at the fancy grocery store, plucking everything that seemed remotely tied to the subject at hand. “This place is pretty amazing, right? I mean just look at everything you can accomplish with some collective organization and, well, deep pockets, probably,” she said, smiling. “We’re casting a wide net, but, obviously, indexes are going to be our friend, so if you can’t find any of our keywords inside, just move it into a nope pile. I went ahead and put it on a flashcard.” She turned and passed him one. “I hope you don’t mind my getting a little excited. I get it, why you might not be, and it’s not that I don’t appreciate the gravity of the situation. I think I just really miss having a reason to come back here.” And something concrete, even tangible, to hope for.
So this was the Scribe HQ. Harsh hadn’t really thought about the place before, but somehow he had expected it to be harder to get into. Not like he was about to complain about that. He trailed after Morgan, eyes scanning the shelves. “It’s really… something.” He should probably be impressed, but with each title, he had to fight to keep his eyes from glazing over. There was so much. How were they ever going to find anything in here? He took the flashcard with a little nod. “It’s fine. Honestly, I was kinda surprised you were so up for this. And I get that. There’s… a lot in here. Did you come here a lot for witchy stuff?” He grabbed one of the books Morgan had selected, blowing the dust from the ancient cover before opening it and squinting at the writing. “This one looks like it’s just philosophy, ‘what does it mean to be ensouled’. I’m guessing there’s not really a section here with a bunch of how-to guides?”
Morgan continued to look, climbing onto stacks of books on the ground to reach higher ones. “Nope, just my curse. It went back over a hundred years deep so I had to trace back all these obnoxious second and third hand accounts to all the terrible things that happened to my ancestors trying to get down to the source. My mom had a lot of faults, but enforcing a well rounded magic education wasn’t one of them.” She balanced on the tips of her toes to get another book, On the Metaphysical Material of Human Essence, and jumped back down, grimacing only a little when she landed off and had to knock her ankle back into place. “Magic is complicated, Harsh,” she said. “In a good way! Say your magical heart’s desire is the number 20. You can get there by ten times two, or five times four, or fifteen plus five, or nineteen plus one. Lots of roads can get you to twenty. Also, witches are, historically, protective of their grimoires. And some spells are too sacred or too dangerous to really want to pass down, you know? Ooh, seriously, check the index of that philosophical one, though. There might be some reference to some, I don’t know, random Romanian death cult that was known to help vampires restore their souls. That would give us a lead to follow up on.” She moved on to the next shelf before popping her head around the corner again. “I’m kidding about the death cult, by the way. I don’t know if that’s a real thing. But it would be pretty cool if it was, right?”
“Shit. Y’know, as long as I’ve been dealing with this stuff, the whole ‘ancient curse’ thing is still kinda wild. I guess I need to expand my horizons a little more,” Harsh said, watching her scramble about. He should probably offer to help, but… she seemed pretty content. Even he could understand needing a project. That was a lot of numbers, but it sort of made sense. Kind of. “I’ve picked up on the protective thing. That coven weren’t the first ones I tried to go to. A bunch of them would’ve rather staked me than let me see any of their dusty old books. Yeah, got it.” He flicked through the book, finding the index number before scanning the pages again. “I’m not seeing Romanian death cults, but there’s some Latin stuff in here. Well, I think it’s Latin, but all I know is audio, video, disco, so we’re gonna need some translating if that’s actually gonna help much.” He chuckled as he set the book down and grabbed another. “Hey, trust me, death cults are very real. They throw some banging parties, but you never wanna stay too late. There was this one I ran into in Spain, and--well, that’s kind of a long story, but they would’ve been very into you. They were all about the brain eating stuff.” Trailing after her, he scanned the top rows of the shelves. “How about that one,” he said, pointing at an especially thick, black covered book. “Looks like it’s got little skulls on it, that’s gotta be good.”
“Well a hundred years and change isn’t ancient-ancient,” Morgan admitted, still pleased to have impressed a vampire as old as Harsh. “But brain eating death cults? That’s kinda hot. Scary, but I’m okay with side hustling as a cult maiden. But the not staying too late, is that because after midnight is when they start to get actually all murder-y?” She laughed goodnaturedly at his suggestion about the skulls on the book. “You know, I have started coming around to the idea of skull iconography being a good omen, but this could just as well be about fun curses or potions.” She tried to climb up for it, but her short arms weren’t quite up to the task. She gave Harsh a sheepish look. “Maybe you could, uh--? And then we can start unpacking what we’ve bothered before we start looking again? I think thirty books makes for a solid beginning.”
“The ones I ran into always treated their zombies pretty well. One of them even made this cool throne for them, it was pretty badass. But yeah, usually they start the murdering right after Cinderella turns into a pumpkin. You get extra drinks if you bring someone to add to the murder pile.” Harsh decided to leave out just how many extra drinks he had managed to earn. Morgan was strangely cool with the soulless thing, but adding a couple dozen murders to that might push things a little too far. He snorted. “You don’t want to spider monkey your way up there? Yeah, I’ve got it,” he said. It was a little out of reach, even for him, but getting a leg up on one of the lower shelves was enough to grab it. The book was weirdly heavy. Maybe that meant it was extra full of magic or something. Hopping down from the shelf, he brushed the dust from the cover. “Yeah, seems like a good place to start. Which ones look the most ritual-y?”
Morgan pouted as she reached for another, closer book. “I want a throne.Can it be made of bones? My girlfriend has a huge thing for bones. We’d look pretty together on a bone throne.” And for ceremonial purposes, maybe with the right amount of discretion and care with, well, offering selection, it might even be a halfway decent time. She smirked at the thought, wondering what kind of coronets death cults might make for their zombies. She laughed at Harsh’s joke and carried their haul to the nearest desk. The books tumbled from her stack and spread themselves over the surface. “Well, here’s the thing: a ritual with full instructions and ingredients is an endgame, a big ol’ golden goose. But, you know, this might start off with something a little more broad, a little more sketchy. We don’t want to turn our nose away from death cults or norwegian summoning stones or...whatever. Because some weird reference might lead us to the golden egg. And the actual golden egg might be buried in some other archive. And then, because we followed the breadcrumbs, we’ll find it in that other archive faster, and...sorry, I’m mixing way too many metaphors, huh? Anyways, I can start on the books on this end of the table, and you can start on the ones on that end? You read fast, yeah?”
“I’m pretty sure making it out of bones is required actually,” Harsh said, with a thoughtful nod. Honestly, it was a little surprising that White Crest didn’t have any death cults, at least as far as he knew. They didn’t tend to be very public. Attention moving to the books, he grabbed a few and pulled them close, scanning the titles. There were some promising ones in there at least. “Right, it would be boring if it was that easy anyway. This kinda thing seems like it needs a lot of bits and pieces before it goes together. The coven said something about ‘proving myself’ so if you see anything like that, just, I don’t know, highlight it or something. I read pretty quick, yeah.” He flicked through the pages of the first book, an older one laden with dust. The cover might have been green at one point. “Don’t think there’s any eggs in this one. It does have a spell for cooking them though. I think this one’s more basic rituals than the big one we’re after. It does have a little thing about summoning, but mostly just bats and rats and stuff. Any luck over there?”
Morgan was running her finger down the index of the volume in front of her, picking out anything that looked remotely undead or soul related and flipping to the corresponding pages. There were a few technical magic terms that stuck out that she wanted to look at as well before she wrote off the reference as a dead end for this volume. She reached for another and started the process all over again. “Not yet, although, you know, lots of fun stuff about necromancy. And vampire cults, although I guess you already know whatever you want to about that stuff.” She balanced the next one precariously on her lap and started flipping back and forth, one section after the other. “This one looks like it has lots of serious lore, though. We’re talking old myths, druidic shit, some stuff I...can’t actually read. Do you know this language?” She passed the book over to Harsh, finger hovering over the photograph of some runes.
“I guess necromancy is sort of near what we’re looking for,” Harsh said a little dubiously. Honestly, he didn’t know nearly enough about magic to be sure. It seemed to make sense though. They both had to do with souls and restoring them. Or something. “Vampire cults can be kind of cool, but most of them are pretty anti-soul, so I don’t know if they would be super helpful.” He reached for the book, brow furrowing as he scanned the runes. “Sort of. It looks like Sanskrit, just a little off. I wonder if it’s like some ancient dead version.” His fingers trailed over the letters as he muttered to himself, working to muddle through the meaning. “I think it’s talking about a ritual. It’s a lot of sorta spiritual stuff, but… I think some of it sounds pretty legit. Some of the words are kind of weird, but I think it’s saying there are three, uh, three pieces you need to retrieve a soul. And then there’s some words I don’t know, this one just means really, really old. What about the other bits, the druidic stuff?” he asked, passing the book back as he moved closer to read over Morgan’s shoulder.
“You never know. Maybe understanding more about how you get rid of them could help us understand how to get one to come back.” Morgan said. Harsh couldn’t afford to turn down any possibility, and neither could she, if she wanted to be good for more than just cheerleading. But as Harsh looked over the text and translated, Morgan started to wonder if the search would be so hard after all. “That...that might just be what we’re looking for! Look, this sigil here, means spirit, but it’s sort of a vague all encompassing sort of an idea, it could me soul, intuition, intention, but when you look at these wrapped around it, you get a soul’s last regret. And when you look at its placement in the circle, it's on a material vector, an ingredient. But it’s also in the center, where you do the conjuring for what you want to accomplish. And in that place it’s also joined by this little squiggly? It signifies a joining, of two planes or two pieces, you see it sometimes in certain kinds of alchemy circles and binding magic.” Her face cracked wide into a smile. Harsh, it’s a spell to bind a soul to a body! It’s real!” Morgan shot up from her chair, almost toppling the book to the floor. “Harsh, your cure is real! I mean, I’m going to need to do more work to figure out the other ingredients, and we need to follow up on that Sanskrit, because that might be important, and who even knows how we’re going to even get some of these things once we know what they are, but still!” She jumped on her toes to give him as strong a hug as her arms could manage. “It’s possible. And that’s what matters most right now, right?”
“That’s a good point, actually. I sort of always thought of them as being two really different things, but… I’m not really an expert on any of this. I should’ve done way more research ages ago.” Harsh had thought as much before, several times… and then done basically nothing. He’d had two hundred years to learn this and he had thrown all that time away. Oh well, he was doing it now. That had to count for something. He nodded vaguely as Morgan went on, doing his best to follow along. It was a little beyond him, but the pieces he could parse were encouraging enough to make a grin slowly spread across his face. “Holy shit--Morgan, you’re amazing!” Meeting her halfway, he locked his arms around her with enough force to lift her off the ground, spinning the both of them in a circle. “You figure out what we need and I’ll get it,” he said as he set her down, still grinning widely. “Whatever we need, just leave it to me.”

It's not leaving me alone, so I gotta ask soneone: Do u have an opnion on why 15x09 gave us future Dean & Sam vampires (like Gordan Walker dying as the monsters they hunt), so a bad vision, while hunters-turned-(hunter-)werewolf (see Garth, or briefly Claire) don't necessarily mean smth bad? Or am I seeing things & in need of more sleep?
I think this is an interesting question, sorry for the late response ^-^
Why vampires?
Now, it’s to be noted that Chuck loves monsters. From 15x04: “But people like monsters though. They do. I mean, Leviathans are cool. What? They’re all teeth! Like, there’s… like, they don’t even have lips. They’re just, like, teeth face. Raa!”. Obviously you can’t turn a human into a Leviathan but I suppose the next best thing is a vampire. (Okay, werewolves have weird teeth too but c’mon, when you think about monster teeth...? Vampire fangs are a classic.) Everyone has made fun of Vampire!Sam-and-Dean’s teeth, and they did look ridiculous, but I think that was the point -- Chuck loves a nice “teeth face”. Obviously, like Becky says, fans don’t care about that. Filling the characters’ mouth with weird teeth is just another of Chuck’s bad writing issues.
I don’t think it’s a matter of ‘vampires are bad, werewolves are good’ because the vision happens in the same episode where Benny is mentioned, and Benny is the quintessential case of vampire ally and friend. But it is interesting that back-to-back episodes paint a picture of a tragic ending for the quintessential vampire friend, and a happy ending for the quintessential werewolf friend.
Consider also that in the same episode Eve is mentioned, which brings us back to season 6, which is when Dean was temporarily turned into a vampire. Back then he was cured (I’ll mourn forever that they didn’t keep Dean as a vampire through the entire Eve arc, but okay, this isn’t relevant here :p) while in Chuck’s vision they ostensibly aren’t, which makes us suppose that they didn’t even try and fed on human blood (remember the cure only works if you don’t feed on human blood after being turned). In fact it’s implied that they did something especially monstrous for Bobby and Jody to decide that killing them is the only option.
Now, vampires and werewolves are often used to signify similar meanings, and in parallel to one another (Claire being cured from being a werewolf parallels Dean’s experience with vampirism for instance) and Chuck himself has in fact recently used werewolf brothers as a (badly written) mirror from Dean and Sam. Both vampires and werewolves are steeped in subtext regarding sexuality and relationships -- which makes it extra creepy when you get ~monsters brothers being monsters together~. The werewolves brothers from 15x05 had an incestuous vibe about them, and we’re also supposed to be creeped out by Dean and Sam’s unhealthy bond in the vision too. Vampirism adds that sexual undertones that they can’t have Dean and Sam play actual incestuous undertones on screen. (While both werewolves and vampires are connected to sexuality subtext, vampirism is definitely the strongest of the two in this sense, especially when you consider not just the show but general lore and culture.)
Vampires are also connected to unhealthy family dynamics in the show, such as the vampire family who took Alex, but the Winchesters themselves (vampires being introduced in an episode where they hunt with John...) to whom after all Alex’ vampire family was a mirror (Dean was used as bait just like Alex was, and here the sexual connotations come up again).
Werewolves are often connected to toxic romantic relationships, especially toxic non-requited feelings, with Garth and Bess being the subversion. In Heart, Madison was turned by the neighbor that had a thing for her; in Bitten, there’s the guy who was into Kate and killed her boyfriend to be with her; in Red Meat the guy does terrible things for his wife’s sake; in Ladies Drink Free, a guy tries to turn girls into werewolves to be his pack... even in 15x08 Eileen is hunting a werewolf when Sam intervenes and almost puts her in danger, signaling that their relationship has issues to be solved. I think that, other than Garth episodes and the “plotty” episodes with monsters in them, the only exception is Paper Moon, which deals with a complicated relationship between siblings, but that was right after the demon Dean episodes and fit in the MoC arc.
Vampires, in general, are more connected to a subtext about sexual fears. From Gordon’s seduction of Dean and the whole dynamic of Dean’s queerness and John’s expectations in the earlier seasons, the fake vampire in Monster Movie, Dean’s turning, even the whole Cas-Crowley thing in s6 where vampires were featured a lot, or the fact that the Alpha Vampire blood is one of the ingredients to defeat the Leviathan together with Crowley’s and Cas’, but also arcs that had a sexuality-related subtext for Dean like the BMoL and AU Michael. Heck even the vampire Maul in 15x10 represents virility-related fears...
(If Garth and Bess are the subversion of the werewolf pattern of toxic and/or unrequited romantic feelings, what’s the subversion of the vampire pattern of sexuality-related fears? I’d say Benny,  but he’s apparently dead... or is he?)
Anyway, Chuck might have turned them into vampires because vampires is the most classic, teeth-y monster out there, or because he wanted to sprinkle some w-ncest-y vibes on the whole thing, or because the whole thing is a metaphor for fears related to his own virility (the whole vision being a plan to rid himself of the wound “emasculating” him, but in general there seems to be a sort of sense of inferiority towards Dean in particular - in the same episode Dean punches him and he punches Dean back harder, in a sort of measuring contest that Chuck sorts of loses in their verbal confrontation), or all of that together.

When one's will is stripped away, oftentimes the outcome will be rebellion. A direct or passive fight against their oppressor(s) in one way or another in order to regain their sense of freedom. In this specific case, it was the denial of a dream college to follow their parent's ideal of being a servant of their Lord that one was not exactly loyal to. More like questioning instead of lack of belief. However complicated one's relationship with His Holiness may have been, the rebellion of not being able to go to the school of their choice led to late parties with non stop drinking and laughter that sometimes turned into tears. Such parties and celebrations of indulgence were against the rules, of course.
As it was a Friday, one snuck out of a white marble dormitory in clothing fit for Mary Magdalene as it was skimpy and sheer and perfectly fit for a party bound Harlot. All of this under a casual black coat due to recent rain and to get under the radar of any of the nuns and priests who asked where a young being was going so late. If spoken response was needed, the reply would be something forgotten in the library or a quick prayer session in the on campus cathedral which was always open for troubled minds.
Yet the escape went smoothly. Coats were taken at the door and libations were spread all around in joyous celebration of the weekend. A sense of concern had washed over the shy companion one had decided to come out with.
“More for me then.” was the intoxicated response as another red solo cup of mystery spirits was downed.
As the night went on, the shy one wandered off, no longer in the mood for loud music and drunken partiers bumping into them. Out onto the back porch where something rather large hid behind a tree.
“Hello?” they called out into the night. “It's ok. I won't hurt you. I just needed some fresh air. Inside just smells like vape juice.”
A hand touched the side of the bannister and felt something wet and sticky. In the amber lighting, it was a reddish color.
“Are you bleeding?”
No response and so the compassionate stranger approached too happy to have a quiet place and someone to talk to. Their scream at the realization that what they had stumbled upon was not human and it was not their blood that came from its body was not heard over the loud pop music inside.
Tumblr media
Although the original partier as well as the whole campus was being told to stay in dorms and on campus even more than normal, they were not told the reason why. But they knew. One had seen the corpse of their quiet and reserved friend in the back yard when the bathroom was full and they needed to piss and ran back inside to call for help. Police were called soon after. People gave their condolences not just for their lost friend and fellow student, but more for the punishment those in attendance would be receiving.
That punishment being cleaning the cafeteria at the end of the day for the rest of the year. As this was the first day of doing so in this righteous university based on religion, morale was low. Several students were dressed in the school uniform of navy plaid bottoms, white socks, black shoes (with black laces), a button up dress shirt with a collar, and a navy blue Thom Browne blazer which had been approved through one of the CEO’s children going to the school but hating the previous uniforms. They all moaned and groaned at the prospect of actually having to work for forgiveness.
Tumblr media
“You should have thought about that before you snuck out to a dangerous party.” Father Namjoon said. “You will stay here until the place is spotless. I will be back within an hour to check on you. I have confessions from the Faithful to listen to.”
And so the young man who was constantly praised for this love of his God and the passion of his sermons went to the booth and waited to listen in on the sins and guilt the Lord's followers had been holding in. Most were the usual things, they had lied or said something wrong. They lusted over the unattainable or felt as though they weren't faithful enough. Some just had burdens too heavy to deal with alone and so Namjoon would pray with them.
That is until the unmistakable sound of Y/N's voice came in and shook the young man's own piety. She had teased him ever since she arrived only a few months ago, but he never gave into her antics. However, they still stayed in his mind so much that he prayed for her. Because of silence on that front, he knew she was just a person in his path to test his faith. Namjoon would never admit that she was doing a rather splendid job at doing so.
“Sorry, Daddy, I've been a bad girl.” Her saccharine voice said.
“Now you know that is not how we do this, Y/N.” Father Namjoon replied.
She giggled, “Yet I know you are listening to me more closely than anyone who has ever said such things properly, aren't you, Father Joonie?”
Every word that came from her mouth taunted the young man and pulled at the Father's heart and other parts inside of him. He stammered out that he needed to get back to his other duties and this needed to be quick.
“I do have a real concern.” The young lady spoke with an irresistible pout in her voice. “It would be irresponsible for you to ignore it, Father~”
“Speak your heart's worry to me, my Child.” Namjoon sighed.
The woman spoke of wanting to claim not only the heart, but also the mind, body, and soul of a man. She claimed to have done this before but not in a very long time and it had never been so difficult for her to approach him in a one on one situation.
“It is not within the right of man to claim another as his property.” Father Namjoon replied with such conviction it surprised him and the woman on the other side of the wooden partition, his body turned to face her.
His hand set on the space in the partition and her hand set on top of it.
Y/N smiled, “What if I am not a man? Nor am I human.”
Brown eyes met ones as bright as rubies. In the darkness of the confessional, the coloring was clear as day. Namjoon felt his hand move but was not sure if he wanted to stop it until his own flesh touched the soft fabric covering her own skin... which body part was this? A quick squeeze and he jerked back his hand. It had been her breast he had grabbed and so he bolted from the booth due to the shock of the action. He felt the need to hide away from everything she was. God knew he had not meant to touch her body like that. It was what she had wanted but the feeling wasn't mutual. Namjoon had taken to a tree in the middle of the courtyard to catch his breath.
“Good afternoon, Father Namjoon. Are you alright?” Father Yoongi asked.
His long time friend and Namjoon's adopted sister who had followed his God given plan into becoming a nun. Both were dressed in their own black and white robes with looks of concern upon their faces for the man they cared so much about. He gave the two a smile and laughed.
“I... I am fine. I simply got frightened by a bee that got too close for comfort.” He would ask the Lord's forgiveness later for lying to his dear friends.
His sister laughed, “They must have mistaken your aura for a physical flower.”
Yoongi chuckled and then asked, “Would you like to join us in getting some craft supplies from in town? We could always use an extra pair of hands.”
“Perhaps another time, Father Yoongi. I have been given the duty to watch over those who attended that party, their punishment that is.” He pushed his hair back. “I was just on my way to check in on their progress.”
“Best of luck to you, dear brother.” Said the little sister.
After polite bows and words of farewell, Namjoon finished the evening quite quickly after the cafeteria was cleaned and decided to work on his sermon for the week.
~~~~
There had not been another incident for a few days. Nothing as big, that is. Instead it was Namjoon's own mind that he was fighting against for the past evenings. He knew she would be back today after the sermon. The man with hair like honey was sure of it, like a well kept promise. He'd keep himself under control and not get caught up in her teasing, he would do his best not to take her bait. Wanting to claim a man for herself. All of him.
He almost wanted her to come back so he could learn more.
And so she did. Within the grated separation, crimson eyes glowed. She smiled, her giggle sounding more like a threat than actual joy.
“So, Father. It seems you have been expecting me.” Y/N announced as the door creaked shut and she sat on the aged red cushion where thousands of students and guests had sat before for years on end.
“Of course,” the blonde man swallowed deeply and ignored the cotton on his tongue in order to speak correctly. “You are a student at this university and so--”
A cute laugh that sounded like the sweetest doom poured from her lips, “Don't play dumb with me, Joonie~ I see how you force yourself not to look at me in class. Why don't you?”
Namjoon replied honestly--as he always did, “You don't wear your uniform properly. It's immodest.”
“But I keep that part unbuttoned just for you. No one else, I swear.” Y/N spoke what appeared upon first listen to be candied false promises.
He scoffed quietly, “Forgive me for not believing that coming from someone like you.”
She pouted, “You should. I don't want anyone else but you, and I intend to make you mine sooner than later.”
“You should repent your lustful and commandeering ways and try to walk in the Lord's light. It is not too late for someone so young like you.” Candid were the words which came from the man who promised himself to the Most High
“But you have the choice to be in MY light, Father. Make the right one before it is no longer a choice you can make.” Her tone alone put the sin in sincere.
“What are you?” Namjoon asked quietly, not sure if he wanted to know the answer.
Y/N made a sighing hum, “Me and my kind have been called many things and depicted millions of times in your media in half as many years. However, I think the common term is Vampire.”
Namjoon gasped and his blood went cold as he knew this was the only truth. That it would explain her eyes and her enchanting ways. Why the men of the school followed her and adored her in the most carnal of ways and fooled themselves thinking it was pure intentions they had with her. Wasn’t that how they were? He saw it in their eyes. Yoongi would sometimes smack them in the back of their heads when he read the thoughts that dripped from their hungering eyes such as the drool from their gaping mouths.
“V-V-Vam-Vam-” The priest stuttered out. The word gripped him like an iron maiden.
Her teeth glinted in the little bit of amber that snuck through the cracks of the ancient confessional, “Yes. Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned for nearly a thousand years. Lately I’ve been biting into some of the more beautiful of the young men that come here and women too. Even those who would rather not subscribe to gender no matter how much it is forced upon them. I am not picky. Blood is blood though it does taste better when I see those beautiful faces become twisted in horror and their eyes roll back when I finally sink my teeth into their alluring necks and wrists. The school uniforms to very well at hiding the scars until they heal.”
Y/N’s voice was tinted with true revelry in those moments that must have been the terrors for others. She had in fact created a harem of students to do her bidding in the sunlight where she could not go, right?
“The sunlight,” Namjoon asked. “How do you?”
“Do you really think vampires can live for millenia and not find some way to thrive even in sunlight?” She laughed. “We have many scientists in our ranks who have created ways of surviving in the sun. That along with natural evolution.”
A knock. Time’s up. Apologies exchanged after hushed guarantees to visit later. Y/N had promised to claim him. He could either submit to her by choice or by force. Was there not some way to defeat her?
Namjoon tried his best to continue to perform his daily duties as a priest, as one of the most looked up to men in this lifestyle. Vampires were demons! He could not let himself succumb to her and her unbuttoned top and her plump thighs in her too short skirt. It had been required for girls to wear shorts underneath, but she never did. Instead she bent over and displayed herself for anyone with the pleasure to pass by.
A pleasure? No. It was wrong. Sinful. Gaudy. Women needed to respect themselves and hide their precious bits for someone special. Their husband. Though Namjoon believed women were allowed to do what they wanted with their own bodies, there was a time and a place for everything. The school hallways during the changing of classes were not appropriate options for either. No one else had ever called her out on it, so neither did he.
There had been a few like that. Skipped through classes with no regards for the rules and omitted their pants, but that was the cause of money. The wealthy child of a wealthy benefactor. A single feigned outcry of unfair treatment could cause for their abundant donations towards the school to be pulled. So many sinners in a house of God, but Namjoon knew that was the way it was supposed to be. He knew they wouldn’t be like this forever. They’d see the light of his Lord and see the fault in their ways. Some had in the few months he had been there.
They had become good little cherry blossoms. Had decided to become part of the flock of sheep that took God’s Word to heart. Some mere liars. Goats hiding their horns. However Y/N had been the lion among the lambs, making peace and friends and yet simply bringing them elsewhere to be devoured. All of this occurring away from the eyes of the herders. Right behind them, but they refused to turn and look because they were blinded or simply ignorant by choice.
Had this been her first slip up? Eating the young woman from the party? The DNA found on the body had belonged to a woman thought to be dead for over a hundred years. In the short week after the celebration gone wrong, the case had been thrown out due to evidence tampering. However, it all made sense with one of the few truthful confessions the taunting young woman ever told. The DNA found did in fact belong to a being over the age of 100. It belonged to Y/N, not as if anyone would believe the man no matter how faithful and honest he was.
With heavy feat and a foggy head, Father Namjoon began to disrobe and pray before troubled slumber claimed his night. All he could dream about was Y/N. Belonging to her and giving into desires he had cast aside in the name of following the Lord. Tasting her sweet nectar below, making her hips roll in an attempt for him to go in deeper to her sweet and tangy tasting core. Eyes opened in fright but the second attempt at a G rated dream was even more pornographic. She was feeding on him and he shuddered in joy.
Her eyes like two glowing cherries.
Would a vampire’s bite be so calming? So intoxicating? With Y/N, it could be. He knew that for sure as if the words were spoken to him in a prayer of promise. From his own heart. Yet being fed from above was not enough for her. She also wanted her sacred garden to be plowed and seeded by him.
Tumblr media
“Begone, Daemon!” The tall man said into the empty and simplistic room.
His own. Not the den where she had...that he had dreamt. The black iron framing of the bed contrasting the white quilt placed upon it for the colder nights and the equally white walls. Light seeped through the thin linen curtains and showed the specs of dirt dancing in the morning rays of pure and comforting light. Namjoon quickly went to his knees and prayed for the fear to go away. To purify and forgive him for his impure thoughts of a student he was supposed to help guide.
“Heavenly Father, please forgive me. I do not know what has gotten into me, but I promise I will not stray from your path, Dear Lord. You are my light. You are my Savior. I refuse to let the lustful thoughts of that young woman lead me astray. I ask for your guidance now more than ever, God. Oh, God.” He wept. “Please help me.”
Tumblr media
When one sacrifices himself for his Lord, when one gives himself to his faith completely, it tends to twist their outlook. It gives someone confidence they did not have before because they feel they have backup. That they are not alone. That is what Namjoon felt as he walked into the class to teach his class for the day. He had truly believed in this morning’s “Amen.”
As a man trained in philosophy until it left him with more questions than answers, he brought that into teaching his class of young adults about God’s word. His promises. He taught about His protection today. With renewed strength, he slammed his ruler on a giggling girl’s desk and asked her to read her texts allowed. Nothing but lustful tones filled the abbreviated letters and messages to someone in a different class.
Y/N spoke up, “As if you are one to judge, Father Joonie. I would not doubt if you had dreams of exploring a woman’s ‘Garden of Eden’ from time to time. Tasting the honey that drips from her at the mere sight of your own sun kissed face.”
A ball of guilt and craving entered the man’s stomach and he hesitated to look at the young woman he now knew was a vampirinc daemon. He feared all weaknesses would be clear in front of her. But he had his Lord and Jesus Christ and even the Holy Spirit on his side. Standing up straight, the young Father smoothed his black robes and met her eyes now their imitation of human coloring instead of the demonic garnet shade he was familiar with.
“I am not one to judge on anything. That is a job reserved only for our Lord Jesus Christ. I simply am stating that her mind should be on the lesson and not matters of the flesh.” Namjoon spoke with a straight spine. “As for your guess as to what I do in my own privacy, in my own head, that is not for you to know.”
“Then I am right.” She said with a knowing attitude and a sharp glare.
Brown eyes defied his inner doubt and said, “You have every right to think so and you also have every right to button up your blouse.”
A false pout sat upon her plump lips, “Even Jesus hung out with harlots.” and folded her arms which made her chest seem even more voluptuous than before, creating stronger cleavage to be seen through her opened dress shirt and blazer.
“I am not Jesus, but I am in charge here. So please conduct yourself properly.” Namjoon said.
“Feeling brave today, aren’t we, Father Joonie?” Y/N said before deciding to follow the rules. . . in her own way. “Taehyung-ssi~, will you button up my shirt for me? I’ve hurt my thumb this morning.”
The beautiful young man with skin like caramel stammered and eventually nodded and blushed as he ghosted his hands above her chest, having to look directly at it to do what he was commanded to do. He even bit his lip. As the moment stretched out, she smiled and looked at his face. His heartbeat had to have been loud. Namjoon’s heart was beating louder and was biting his lip even harder. Why? He should’ve said something when she made the request in the first place.
Instead jealousy made the strong jaw tense as both hands gripped firmly on the podium in front of him.
“That’s--” Father Namjoon began, starting to get fed up with how long this was taking.
“Done. Is that fine, Y/N?” The younger man asked, forcing himself to look into her eyes and his cheeks became scarlet.
She gave a smile, “Yes. Thank you, Taehyung-ssi.”
Both students sat in their seat and the lesson continued as the sun was high in the sky, beating down on all of the rich campus. The sun that gave all of the world life and light began to sink soon after the final lesson and Namjoon decided to finish grading the last test at home. As he passed by what was supposed to be an empty hallway since it was nearing dusk, he instead heard labored breathing and primal grunts alonged with muffled moans.
“Be quiet, or someone is going to hear you.”
Was someone in trouble? Had someone given into their lustful urges and gone after an innocent student?
The sunkissed man with a heart of gold and duty towards bettering humanity sped towards the source of the sound. Moans and grunts got louder as the concerned teacher traveled empty halls to find who would be visiting the Headmaster and getting extra sessions in the confessional.
It was not any sound of pain, but pure erotic rapture taking place on the sturdy tables attatched to the floor. Pure whites and blues being tarnished by the sweat and friction it takes for at least two bodies to engage in intercourse. The bodies belonging to those who engaged in what turned out to be subtle foreplay of buttoning a simple blouse in front of a class of 13 other students and a fuming teacher. Who else better to approach the scene of discarded navy blue blazers now?
Tumblr media
“Oh, I do love your blood the most, Taehyung-ssi. I would take more, but I wouldn’t want your cock to suffer any loss since I find that just as delicious if not more.” purred a familiar voice. “Yes! Oh yes! You are such a good pet, TaeTae.”
Deep growls responded, “Take as much as you want, Mistress. I’ll produce more blood. Ah! Ah, I want to serve you, Mistress.”
She moaned at his repeated penetrations, “You serve me so well, my pet. I assure you. Mmmm, right there. The most--oh--sought after boy on this incredibly dull campus approaching me my first day here, mmmpph and not backing down even after you found out what I was.”
“I just wanted to be yours, Mistress. I didn’t care how. Feed on me more, my beloved Mistress. Please.” Taehyung’s labored voice begged.
“You’re close, aren’t you, my pet?”
A desperate voice answered, “Mmmm, gya. Yes, Mistress.”
Y/N’s unforgettable laugh, “Ok, one more bite.”
Namjoon watched through the cracked doorway, unable to tear himself from the sounds of such passionate and primal coitus in an empty classroom. He remembered the time in high school when his heart led him to do the same with his crush, but it became the reason why he was sent here in the first place. It had been seen as too dirty and sinful when the love they had was as pure as freshly fallen snow.
Now, to see the one he said would claim him instead claim another, it...it hurt. It clouded his once confident mind with doubt and complex feelings. Had she lied to him? Was he really something so special when she had claim to half if not all of the student body at this point? Did such a pain that shot through his chest even deserve the name of heartache?
The sight of her removing the white dress shirt from Taehyung’s shoulder and sinking her glistening fangs into the area made something shift inside Father Namjoon. A brief wish to be in the young man’s position instead of standing stunned in fading sunlight flitted through his mind as he stared, mouth agape and stomach being filled with the most sensual of sins in the highest concentration. Such an act was being performed right in front of his snout which rested a pair of glasses.
As if fate wanted to make sure he saw every moment, every thrust, every bead of sweat as clear as possible.
Eyes like Hellfire looked directly at the frightened but enticed priest, assuring him that she had known he was there the entire time. The smile telling him not to look away even as the black framed lenses landed on the floor.
“Mistress! I feel so dizzy~” Taehyung whined. “Can I--?”
“Go ahead, pet.” She responded.
With blue plaid bunched around ankles, the student thrusted deeply into his Mistress with a broken moan. He begged for Y/N’s kisses and she gave them to him for being so good for her. As the affectionate action was done, a troubled pious man ran away. Out of sight, out of mind, right? That was his goal.
“Mistress, who was that?” the pet asked, breathing heavy and mind full of fog in part due to blood loss.
Y/N caressed his head and felt his creamy offering inside of her, “No one, my dear. Rest now. I’ll get you a nice comfy place to rest. Don’t you worry.”
Tumblr media
With the door shut firmly behind himself, the call of concerned friends asked the reason for his quick pace and strained face. He assured them that it had just been a long day and he had just been in need of rest and it would be best if he were left alone for the time being.
“I just need to pray.” the young man with hair like a sandy beach promised himself.
But there was something that needed to be dealt with before he uttered a word up to the Heavens to hear. The growing problem in his pants making them even tighter, now pressing up against the zipper. It...it had to be handled now. This was the first time Namjoon had been on his knees not to pray, but to instead relieve the lust that created a fire in his groin. A fire as bright as Y/N’s ruby eyes. Unbuttoning pants and moving down black fabric and white underwear to free his thick and throbbing phallus. More upstanding than he was perceived by everyone on the other side of the door.
He just had to make it quick, and so the horny representative of the Heavenly Father began the task of sliding his hand back and forth along already moisturized skin. Friction was decreased due to his own precum leaking onto the rest of his cock. Biting the hem of his robes to keep quiet and keeping it out of the way, the man imagined himself in the place of his student, serving his Mistress in the most carnal of ways. He thought of her flame filled eyes looking at nothing but him.
Mistress. Mistress. Please don’t let anyone else serve you but me, Mistress. I’ll do anything. Please! He tried to stay true to the live script but instead let his own desires come forth. You were right. I do think that way. I haven’t thought about any of this stuff in a long time, not until you revealed what you were. Please!
He imagined Y/N’s hands scraping down the front of his chest and landing on his aching cock which she soon took over and began stroking with fervor. She teased him for being so desperate and laughed at him for making things so hard on himself when he could have just given in. Namjoon could just deliver himself unto his urges and into her and then maybe he’d be rewarded with actually getting to cum inside of her. Father Namjoon just wanted to let his snake explore her bush for the rest of his Earthly years..
The constricting heat of it. Her voice calling him precious names and soon enough his own voice was begging just like Taehyung’s had been. The small bit of sense left in the priest’s mind caused him to bite on his own arm as his white seed fell onto the barren land of a carpet a few shades darker due to it being traveled by many feet, making his sin even brighter and apparent.
Guilt soon constricted his heart and hot tears of regret burned and flowed down his cheeks. This was no way to live! He could not serve two Masters! He had to choose and Namjoon was sure his body had already decided against all reason, all logic, all sincerity to his life and love of serving his Savior God.
Tumblr media
The next day in class, it was difficult to look at the one he had imagined pumping his cock for less than 24 hours ago on his bedroom floor. She noticed very early on in the teachings and had been torturing him thought the entire lesson, spreading her legs too wide while in her seat and even while in groups, she made sure her back was towards Father Namjoon and bent over the desk to reveal the scandalously thin and lacy thong she had decided to wear.
Blood rushed to all extremities of the teacher with a war inside of him. Which to follow, his Master or a new one that would rather be called Mistress? One was certainly real in a physical plane as well as mental. He no longer hesitated to believe in her power, though his troubled thoughts were stilled by a hand tapping his arm.
Father Namjoon jumped out of his skin, making the others laugh for a moment.
He then turned to the face of a young woman known as Lisa, “Father Namjoon, the timer? It’s been going on for a while.”
The beeping of his phone was silenced and then he had the groups go through and speak about the Biblical topic they had chosen. Research had been done as a group, but only two would present to class until the bell rang. Once the charming ring of wind chimes sounded, the students were released to their next class. The honey haired priest then cleaned up the room before his next class came for his teachings.
There was a folded note with his name on it in the seat in which Y/N every day as things were organized by surname. Namjoon’s heart jumped in excitement and anxiety at what the letter contained. It was a time and a place. A smile broke out on the teacher’s face so bright and broad that he had to cover it with his hand.
Next class came in. The same lesson was taught. The sun went down slower than usual.
Soyeon raised her hand, “Father Namjoon, why do you keep looking at the time? Are you looking forward to something?”
“Nothing in particular. I just hear that it will be a full moon tonight, so I am excited to see it once it’s up.” The man gave a polite smile as the timer went off.
Tumblr media
Once the silver moon was high in the star speckled sky, Namjoon travelled to the location which was written on Y/N’s note. It was the old church that had been abandoned years ago after a great fire years before Namjoon ever showed up to this university. With only memory and a flashlight to guide him, the priest was clad only in a pair of black jeans with a white button up shirt tucked into them. The sleeves were rolled up to right below the elbow since he no longer felt wholly right in wearing his robes.
He opened the charred wooden doors with a groaning creek. Invisible small animals ran among scattered leaves.
“Hello, Y/N?” Namjoon called out. “A-are you--Are you here?” His voice reverberated upon the walls of the dilapidated cathedral.
No reply. He was stupid, and for what? Where had all of his rational thinking gone? The priest should have stayed with his God and his books. This may have been the day he died. It was just his imagination, all of this. The 100 year old DNA was just evidence that had been tampered with. She wasn’t a vampire. They didn’t even exist!
“Now now, don’t say that.” Y/N’s voice echoed. “I was just putting on the final touches, Father Joonie~”
Namjoon’s gaze fell upon the beautiful woman’s form, the vampire who had awoken years of suppressed lust inside of him. The one he wanted to serve more than almost anything.
Her shape was covered in a tight rose colored dress which left little to the imagination as it had no sleeves and only straps to hold up a beautiful bosom that glittered in the moonlight due to the chains that dangled from a black lace choker with a ruby as red as her eyes in the middle. Her fingers were adorned with black rings and she was holding red wine in a crystal glass. Her red and gold studded heels clacked on the aged dark wooden floor. As she tucked her hair behind her ear, the earrings she always wore winked in the moonlight along with a rosy bracelet.
Tumblr media
“How do I look?” She asked, spreading her arms revealing lace underneath her breasts allowing her skin to peak through.
The man choked on his own words and was unable to reply. She had really arrived at the meeting spot for him. Of course, she was the one who set this all up in order for her to claim the man.
She smirked, the tip of blade like fangs flashed, “Thank you. I must say that you look quite delicious as well. I do quite despise those robes for doing such a good job at hiding such delectable and supple shapes like yours.”
“Y/N,” The man spoke softly. “I have come to give you my answer.”
“Is it the right one?” The woman stood in front of him and batted her eyes.
Namjoon nodded and could not meet her cherries, “For me, yes. I cannot be yours as much as it pains me. My heart and soul belong to my God.”
She frowned and the glass shattered in her hand as wind picked up, there was a crack in her usually calm and cocky exterior, “It’s a shame that I have to do this by force, Joonie. I had really hoped you made the correct decision.”
Hands were put up defensively, such is the way one should hold themselves in an attempt for self preservation.
“Please, hear...hear me out. I want. I want you. I want to be yours, Y/N. There are feelings that I have never felt before, and I doubt they’ll just go away.” His voice was soft as the sky and had a rasp which matched the crinkling leaves. “But I cannot serve two Masters--”
“What if I told you that you can keep your priesthood and still belong to me?” Y/N said.
Was such a thing possible? “. . .I’d take that option in a heartbeat.”
Her smile returned and the wind died down, “Alright, then. Your heart, body, and half of your mind will belong to me, but He gets to keep your soul and the other half of your mind.”
Namjoon gave an eager nod, “Yes. Yes, please! What do I have to do?”
In an instant, Y/N ripped off the startled man’s shirt Sharp talon like fingers dragged up the abdomen which flexed underneath her touch. A firm hand then gripped his chin and forced them to look at her. Shaded eyes looked up with a devilish grin with showed the entirety of fangs sharper than any needle the desperate man had ever seen. He let himself get lost in her red beryl eyes and felt himself losing all of his will as two lovely canines sunk into his neck. A bit of warm wetness trickled from the wounds, dying his shirt a romantic crimson. Tears of pure bliss dropped from his eyes. It was painless as he felt himself relax under her ministrations, his legs starting to give out.
Father Namjoon soon found himself kneeling in front of her red dress as she licked her scarlet stained lips. Her heel cover shoe then stepped on the oh so attentive cock hidden beneath thin trousers. The man hissed in a breath and felt as though he could orgasm then and there.
“Hmp, I finally have you, don’t I?”
She then began walking away from him and floated up the stairs and sat herself on top of the pulpit and spread her legs. Unlike earlier where there was a piece of black lace separating YN’s already deflowered garden from the harshness of man, there was nothing except flowing river of her honey. The half turned priest licked his lips.
“Equivalent exchange, my dear. I take some of your lifeblood and you take your fill of my body. Anything you desire no matter how sinful it is, I will happily fulfill. Now devour my nectar.”
“Yes, Mistress~” Namjoon said without missing a beat and then walked towards her dripping pussy, taking a deep inhale. “Oh, God. It smells delicious.” He hovered his nose right above her heat and breathed in again, his torso pressed against the pulpit’s wooden cross and adding much needed pressure to his sheathed length.
Y/N shoved his head forward, “No more talking! Become mine already!” obvious impatience after months of hard work was expected and rewarded.
Everything Namjoon had ever imagined over the past 6 years of learning and eventually becoming a teacher at the school came forth. All thoughts that had been shoved to the deepest parts of his mind were given new life as he took his fill of her body. His pants were now discarded somewhere off to the side as he became hungrier and more unhinged.
He wanted to be hers and he wanted his God. With this oath, he was promised both. Jesus died for man’s sins. It would be a waste if he died for nothing, right? Every thrust inside the vampire he adored was like a prayer and her moans a matching hymnal loud enough for Him and all of His angels to hear.
“Mistress. Oh, Y/N. Thank you. Thank you for choosing me. Thank you, Mistress Y/N.” Father Joonie panted out as he rutted with no sense of fatigue. “I don’t know why I tried to fight it. I can really have it all with you.”
She giggled and moaned out his name, “Oh yes, Father Joonie, yes you can.”
“Don’t be with anyone else. Please. Keep your eyes on me. At least when we’re together. Don’t play around with Taehyung or anyone else.” He sounded so pitiful, begging a student that he taught not to play with his heart.
“If I ever play with anyone else, you will be there to make--oh goodness--to make sure they’re doing it right. You’re my number 1, Joonie. I wanted you and so I’m going to have you ask much as I can.” She was a moaning mess under him as they screwed, using the pews as support to blow out a Vampire’s back.
The fiercely tender words went right to the priest’s cock, “I’m gonna. Mistress Y/N, I’m going to cum! Let me seed your garden, please!”
His fluttered as she once again sank her teeth into him and sucked.
“Fuck! Yes! Oh God, yes!” The priest orgasmed deep inside his vampire student.
Father Namjoon no longer cared about him being her professor or that she was a vampire. All he could think about was how most of him belonged to her now. He slid out of her and got onto his knees to lay his head in her lap once she sat up. She caught her breath and started to smooth his head. Maybe she had pushed him too far for their first feeding.
Her own clothing had never been removed completely, only pushed out of the way to free her bosoms and create better access to her now filled and dripping pussy. She did not attempt to correct any of this as she adored the exposed feeling of it all.
Then her most prized possession in several centuries said to her in his dazed state, “I want to be yours for the rest of my life, Y/N.”
“And you will be.” She promised.
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle Review
This game has been out for years now so if you haven't played it, you either don't have a Switch or don't have enough interest in it. So I will try and give you reasons why to play this game and spoil some gameplay details along the way but will save what the bosses are.
This game doesn't appeal to me, "Mario and Rabbids: Battle Kingdom", I mean Rabbids are basically the original Minions. I've heard it called a "Baby's first XCOM" and I, for one, am not about strategy or turn based combat. So, then why is it that when I got my Switch, this was the first thing that came to mind that I wanted to get?
I haven't played many games on the Switch yet but I can tell that there are games that are best played on the TV, best played on tablet, and best played with the Joycons loose, some fall under all of the above such as Super Mario Odyssey. This falls under the best kind of tablet game, it's like it was meant to be played port-ably and is something you can play a level here and there, casually, or seriously and play a whole chapter's worth.
This is pretty much as clever as it gets, it's no wonder they got Grant Kirkhope to compose it, it has the humor of Banjo Kazooie, it's not even Minions-like humor, it's charming to the max.
There are times where you'll play a stage and just go guns blazing but you need to be careful because sometimes there will be a gauntlet of levels and you will either have to find a mushroom or just go straight to another level before it heals you again. Of course later in the game you can switch up the characters (that have more health) but you shouldn't always assume it as a fail-safe, especially for a boss, so if you're low on health and haven't found a mushroom, change BEFORE you get to the level, that is if you keep your other character's stats and weapons, good and balanced.
Ok, I hear this and that about how everybody loves Rabbid Peach and while her gameplay has a lot of perks, Rabbid Luigi was instantly my favorite and I tried to use him for every battle, I mean he has a Yo-Yo and his hat is on sideways, how can you not love him? I made him a beast with his 'Vampire' ability which allows you to slide into enemies and take some of their health to add it to yours. There is a Fridge boss that it's strongly recommended not to use him but I sure as heck tried. So you will more than likely get attached to a certain character but it's up to you who it will be towards and remember that you might not be able to use them EVERY time. You can choose to have 3 different characters at a time but one of them has to be Mario, he's a default and you can't exchange him. There have been multiple times where all my other characters have died and all I have left is Rabbid Luigi and I pull a clutch with that Vampire ability, making a clean sweep and finishing the level alone, I wasn't really able to do that with any other characters (though I valued Rabbid Luigi more so maybe I didn't try hard enough). And don't worry, even if you don't have a character in your current party, they still obtain skill points for the skill tree so you won't have to grind for a character once you unlock them or anything.
Tumblr media
So, how do you make your character stronger if every level is right in front of you and not really an RPG style of sidequests? Well, there are little puzzles you can go around, collect coins, hidden chests, some cannons that you can shoot out of that take you to a Red Coin type level (except blue coins) and you get a new weapon out of it. Also you can go back to worlds you've completed and complete challenges, I usually hate doing stuff like that but it's all good in this game. And it's not required, this game is pretty balanced, it's not too hard but not too easy either, there's no difficulty setting so that's good to hear. Sometimes I would play a boss just to kind of test them out and see what they did and then adjust for my second playthrough for them when I inevitably failed. There are definitely some levels I would spend a few days on, usually those bosses and I would lay in bed thinking of different strategies to beat them, some of those were the most satisfying after beating. Now that may sound like a lot of thinking and seem repetitive but it doesn't force you to come up with a strategy, do you think I actually did stuff intentionally? Not really, I used trial and error and it never even got tired, I usually fail the same level of a game just a few times before putting it down and say "I can't do this." because yeah, I am kind of a baby when it comes to some of these games but I feel accomplished when I beat stuff like this. This is where the 'Baby's first XCOM' comes into play, if you're not into that genre, this is the right game for you but if you are into the genre, you're experienced and it may seem a bit more tame but it's still a good play, Win-Win.
Given that topic, if you feel "too challenged" then it will offer you extra health for a level so it will heal your party up and add some extra, but I like to think of it as the chicken hat in MGS5, only use it if you need it, and even if you do need it, it's not ridiculously easy once you have it. I HAVE failed using the extra health before, sometimes you're just not using the right characters or weapons or need something from the skill tree, it's not a bail out free card, it's just a boost. I've played the ending gauntlet many times and each time it was different, some times I would do great until the third wave, sometimes it's just left up to chance whether your shot hits or not because if they're hiding behind a wall, it may not hit and are you hitting the enemy with the right character? Maybe you need a different order for maximum damage. It's a lot to process but you're not forced to think about it too hard, you have time, that's why it's turn based, I am describing it in a lot of detail but don't think that it's overly complicated or anything, if it was, as I mentioned, I wouldn't play it, it wouldn't seem so darn good of a game to me if it was.
And before you think that enemies get too easy or anything because you just upgraded everyone, they're constantly introducing new ones so it's always even with where you are in the game. Some of these enemies need to be handled differently because of how they attack such as the big ones without guns, they usually have a big stone or log or something and if they get close to you then they'll do a hefty amount of damage so it's always entertaining, keeps you on your toes, and brings me to my next topic.
I suppose it's easy to think that they all just have similar blasters but that's wrong. Most weapons come with a status effect such as honey which prevents them from moving on the next turn, ink which does the opposite and prevents weapons from being used, flame which catches them on fire and and makes them run around until they are extinguished, this ability is especially cool because if they hit another enemy, he will also be on fire, that doubles for you though so be careful with placement. There are also some other abilities but I'll get back to this topic in a minute. Not only are there different variations, which really just fit your preference, but there are also shotgun types which only have a short range but a higher amount of damage, rubber-duck grenades, yes you heard me right, and they're even decorated, there's even a Sam (King)Fisher one from Splinter Cell, not even joking. There are hammers which can get multiple enemies at once if you're within range, and these things that are called sentries but don't shoot anything, they're more like rolling bombs, they can be used to divert an enemy's attention away or can be used similar to a grenade but with more power, and then there are rocket launchers which can fire farther and machine guns which are a bit of an odd ball because you shoot a bunch of weaker bullets vs one big blast but you have more of a chance of hitting due to it's ability to instantly break a wall that an enemy may be hiding behind, leaving them open for the next person. I also wanted to mention that before you attack, aiming at an enemy shows you how much damage you'll do, I guess that's easy to look past or expect but given I haven't played a tactical game of this nature, I want to be thorough.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It tosses it up with a few different types of missions, rather than just walking from area to area to fight the next battle, you actually get some landscape to look at, some puzzles which are actually quite fun, I like a good puzzle and it makes me want to try Captain Toad, but there are also escort missions. Most players dread escort missions in games because they take forever to follow you, this is in a different genre though. It will give you a goal and all you have to do is get that character (most of the time it's Toad) to the goal, sure they can't attack or anything and you have to rely on your other characters to defend but you don't have to defeat all the enemies like most stages, just get to the goal and you control the escort just like you would any other character so they don't drag behind. My only slight complaint with this is that Toad or whoever, isn't be able to use a teammate to bounce like everyone else but it's still fine. Same with the bosses, the only requirement is to just beat the boss, there will be other enemies too though. Before you think you can cheese it that way, most bosses have multiple health bars so you may take out their first form tanking hits with guns blazing but will you have enough to last the second and third form? Probably not so you need to take out those side enemies first because for one, they make it harder, and two, once the second form comes, the boss will bring a second wave of enemies and if you don't have the first wave beat yet then it will stack.
Tumblr media
Ok, so easily the best thing about this game is the atmosphere, every little detail feels so good to just walk around in, they didn't have to make the world so good but they did, this accompanied with Grant Kirkhope's music is splendid even the different versions of classic Mario tracks. My favorite one would have to be "Exploring the Mine". With that, the designs for characters, enemies, and such will be added as collectible models throughout the worlds, it's a fun little thing to look for if you're into that sort of thing, I made sure to get a few for the bosses I liked the most. This goes double for the music tracks, you can collect them and go back and play them in the museum. But back to the way it looks, it looks so good that there will be points where Beep-O (who is kind of the guide and serves as a reason this tactical map exists) will have a magnifying glass option and if you press it, he will bring attention to certain landscapes and sights such as a Rabbid in a hot tub burning himself or a Bullet Bill with Underpants on his head, it's all in good fun and really makes you see the vibe they're going for with this fusion between worlds. The landscape for battles includes these pipes that you can travel between to slide kick enemies easier and get a better piece of ground to defend, it's really cool when you get a chain of attacks for example: With Mario, you can stomp on top of enemies, so you slide kick an enemy, bounce off of a teammate to get farther, land by stomping on another enemy then finally make your destination where you want to shoot, so much damage can come from just one turn if you really know what you're doing. And about those effects like flame, there will be different boxes around the stage where if an enemy is stationed behind them and you can't see them good enough to get a hit in, you can fire anyway and hit the box, making the effect hit the enemy so it wasn't a wasted shot and may even make them vulnerable enough for another character to shoot.
Some characters have something like "Hero-Sight" or "Steely-Stare", this is amazing, it's up there with the Vampire ability for me. This comes in handy for those bulkier enemies with the stones and if you have a weapon that has "bounce" it's so freaking satisfying because you can use the ability, fire at the enemy and if they make an attempt to get closer then your character will shoot a few more times.
Tumblr media
There is a bit of a problem when you don't properly close the game however because sometimes I would just leave it open on the home screen then shut the console off and come back to it later. Yeah only do that once or twice, don't leave it on standby every time because what will start happening is that the models for some of the items and characters will glitch and turn into blocks, it's not a performance based issue, just visual but it was my fault in the first place for not closing the game for so long so I can't really complain.
There is a bit of DLC that I'm actually considering getting (if it wasn't as much as the base game, crimeny!)because it expands off the story and revolves around Donkey Kong, so that's cool. Speaking of after the game, there is end game content. Throughout you unlock puzzle abilities such as moving crates, picking up totems to put them on pedestals so you can unlock new areas, break blocks, and drill a hole. You can go back to each of the worlds and finish some puzzles you weren't able to before because you didn't have one of those unlocked, if you're going for 100% that is or even if you're just trying to make some extra moolah during the game.
Now, onto the heart of the post!
   ♛   Who the heck is my muse, anyway? Elizabeth Eva Alexandria Cross, the only biological daughter of Kaien Cross, her father (a canon vk char), and Eva Liliya Cherie Cross, her mother (an oc muse)! Elizabeth is a vampire hunter by blood like all in her family before her! But, shh! Your character isn't supposed to know that .  .  .  unless they're also a hunter .  .  .  or a perhaps a vampire (since her family from both sides are famous hunters, but even then they don't have to know she's a vamp killer if you don't want them to) .  .  .  or they're some sort of ally to her / the hunters association since she can't just tell anyone her actual work on a whim. Where she's from, the existence of vampires are a secret from most of humanity and it's her job to kill the dangerous people-hurty ones and keep that nice and secret so as to avoid a world war! 'Nothing about her is complicated at all', I say, lying through my teeth like Bethy does to society every day by keeping her job and true lifestyle hidden :'D
Further information below the cut, please take time to read if you’re stuck on what to plot and how Bethy operates!
   ♛   Points of Interest:           - She was born and raised to fight against unruly beasts and composed foes alike. Despite her youth, she's a one-woman powerhouse and is not afraid to take herself down with an opponent if she deems it necessary. She's like the Smash player who hits the fake smash ball to take out an enemy on their last legs, even at the expense of her own life. She'll do it! Except in Smash she'd probably just win the match because she had an extra life and not, you know, not die forever for real in a last grand battle.
          - She's got vamp genes all over the place and is rare among hunters. She's biologically immortal like a Pureblood despite not being a vampire herself and is living testimony of what her predecessors took from Purebloods both by honorable bestowal of blood from the mysterious Hooded Woman, and straight up [insert painting of Jupiter Devouring His Son here]. Her great grandparent is 3k+ years old, her father is 200+ for devouring his own twin-- it's messy as mythology, but anime :'D  She herself is only 18 on default though (19 in K Crossover--), the youngest of her entire bloodline, and she can still be slain in battle even if she is much hardier than a typical human being. She's also sensitive to auras, and capable of sensing vampires.
          - Things characters might notice? She's ghostly pale and kind of looks like she stepped out of The Last Unicorn. She looks cold, sophisticated, and vaguely otherworldly-- she really doesn't radiate the friendliest of vibes unless she's doing something she loves, and the calculated yet seemingly effortless grace of her movements are prominent in and outside of combat. She is descended from an ancient royal line, and those posh, stuffy mannerisms and formal speech pattern live on through her even if the Adrasteian monarchy no longer exists.
          - She truly isn't a trigger-happy person, whatever the title of 'hunter' implies, and keeps a level head in most situations. Sure, Bethy looks as if she could bite someone's head off and can display some seriously threatening flashes of anger, but she's not going to do something rash and will only resort to drawing her weapons in a serious matter. She's here to save lives, maintain peace, and keep order, not disrupt it and set off a war! No pressure on her, right?
        - She is also notably, NOT a high school student, though she may be mistaken for a high school senior or young college student since her age fits the bill. Elizabeth actually graduated from her high school at age sixteen and took to hunting full-time immediately after. She was convinced to slow it down by her grandparents and began preparing for college when her assignment at Cross Academy arrived and, uh, pretty tragically, hasn’t been able to attend any classes due to her work demands. Come to choose between the world and personal fulfillment? Her conscience only let her have one choice; a hunter must hunt.
    ♛   What they’ve been up to recently:           - Work. There's hardly a time when this girl isn't working or planning what to do next, and the workload only grows after the previous president is outed as a dishonorable, self-serving traitor to the hunters. She's seriously injured after trading blows with him and is promptly benched to deal with the fallout and mental agony, but she's back within a year (and in K's crossover? Only six months later!).
          - Having said that, Elizabeth does have days off and will spend them quietly with her friends, or alone with music and a rejuvenating swim.
          - Depending on the time in her life? Her life circumstances vary drastically-- she can go from a young huntress travelling on her own as duty demands, or she can be a mother of five children and trusted right hand of the new hunter president, Zero Kiryuu. She lives for a long time, so she's always up to something! And of course, she's always motivated to fight for a better future.
   ♛   Where to find them:            - Aside from work, check the beach! Or find her on methods of cross-continental transportation since she travels around the world for her job (she walks whenever possible, so it's rare to see her on a bus, but she’ll begrudgingly take one or a train)! Otherwise, a place like an aquarium, clothing store, or coffee shop, or any place in a city is your best chance.... write w me pls... q-q she is Around Somewhere.
          - If not found in any of those places and your character is someone inside Cross Academy, she can be found there, helping the prefects in some way and is familiar enough with the building to help out new students if they ask.
    ♛   Current Plans:           - Elizabeth is chained to her work as a hunter for as long as she draws breath, or until there is no need for her to end hostile vampires. Her ultimate goal is to keep the world from falling into a repeat, all-out war between vampires and humanity. Her living and family situation might change through the years, but that will always be her primary drive-- she's got an indomitable will.
    ♛   Desired Interactions:           - please ovq
          - In all seriousness, I’m up for pretty much anything. She needs more friends, more enemies, people to protect, people to be protected by, people she looks up to, people who legitimately unnerve her, everything! I just don’t feel comfortable killing her. Elizabeth fought really hard to get her future and deserves to find comfort after her entire childhood-young adult life was spent thinking the only thing of worth she had was her role as a huntress. I do really, really love angst though, so anything else goes, really c:
     ♛   Offered Interactions ( please sit tight for this! it will be divided into multiple sections! ) :           - IF YOUR CHARACTER IS HUMAN:                - She’ll assume your muse is an average civilian until shown otherwise (be it with unusual powers, whacky aura, combat prowess, or prior knowledge from a report or something-- a plot specific thing). Unless they truly know about vampires / work with the Hunters Association, Elizabeth will not be sharing any information about who or what she is without a legitimate reason (such as the human character being bitten by a Pureblood and thus is being turned into a vampire themselves). However, the other party being kept in the dark about vampires can open the door to a more relaxed Elizabeth without her professional, perfectionist mindset. She’s more likely to have a pleasant conversation with humans since they have no part in the hunt-- but in that same vein, she does aim to keep them at a certain distance and not develop a deep emotional bond (but she’s also a lot softer than she looks and acts and tends to care for others quickly, should they get along). It’s a tricky slope .  .  . She’s thawed out and the nicer aspects of her personality are far more prominent, but at the same time, she’s not being entirely genuine. Give her time and she’ll become more open about personal things, just, not her work.
               - Applies to her K Proj. Crossover.  Working with S4, Elizabeth takes some time to adjust, but ultimately loves the organization and the people within it. They’re an exception to her ‘no ties with average humans’ rule because....errr.... they’re not the average human she’s used to protecting and in that verse they’re aware of her occupation and peculiar heritage. She’s not as cold first impressions might suggest and loves Reisi’s weird af team building nights, it’s hard for her to not have a soft spot for them, even as an outsider and unofficial member (as in, she has none of the abilities the Blues have, but she has her natural abilities).
         - IF YOUR CHARACTER IS A HUNTER:                 - Elizabeth is a known figure in hunter society; her great grandfather, grandfather, and aunt were previous heads of the organization and each are still alive at present. So, it probably makes more sense if your hunter character at the very least knows about her-- unless they’re an off-series muse in which case go wild and do what you think is best! I always did like the idea of two vampire hunters chilling together with neither one knowing the other is a fellow hunter until they’re attacked by a vamp and they’re both like ‘Oh!’
               - A simple but always reliable plot idea is two hunters on a joint mission! It’s really important to know that Bethy does not take kindly to poor performance and expects her partner to take whatever assignment they have seriously. If not? Things get tundra-cold really fast-- o-o;; People’s lives are at stake and in her opinion, if a hunter wants to mope or complain about their blood-given obligation, they’re not fit to be hunters in the first place. ‘Can’t do the job? Then finish what you started with me if you have any shred of integrity, and get thee gone’ sort of thing. Otherwise, uh :’D;; she’s highly cooperative and always aims to reach the outcome with the least amount of damage.
               - As a teenager, she attended a hunter-run private academy in Adrasteia for four years. If it’s possible for your muse to attend (as in, they are from a vampire hunter family and can pass the rigorous entrance exams), throw em in for a slightly younger, less stringent Bethy? A national fencing champion at the top of her classes, and great granddaughter to the legendary hellfire headmaster, Elizabeth’s not easily missed! It could be the start to an amicable relationship to carry into future interactions?
        - IF YOUR CHARACTER IS A VAMPIRE:                 - Bluntly put, for vampires, it’s probably better to interact with Elizabeth after Cross Academy has fallen in the large battle that took place there. Her mother is revealed to have been alive and held captive as a vampire, she’s already friends with a hunter/vamp, her two friends turned out to be Purebloods, and ‘oh....my mother and father got together again and now I’ve got a younger vampire brother’ .....and her boyfriend’s half sister is also a vampire who marries the former vamp senate heir..... so...vamps everywhere; she simply accepts them as part of the family. Prior to that, while she isn’t hostile to vampires and certainly has no intention to attack a vamp unjustly, it’s not a place she’s eager to put herself in. Depending on how threatened she feels, she’ll even swallow her pride and keep her head down-- mostly.
               - If your muse is a hunter-turned-vampire, she doesn’t treat them as a vampire, rather, she still sees them as a compatriot, like in the case of Zero Kiryuu. Whether or not your muse received the blood of their keeper is up to you, but in the case that they haven’t-- she’s always there to assist in granting mercy whenever the time comes :’)
       - IF YOUR CHARACTER DOES NOT FIT INTO ANY OF THE ABOVE CATEGORIES / REGARDING OTHER VERSES:                - Please help me find something that works, I’m willing to try! Memes are incredibly helpful! Send one in, the tag is here, and we can go from there!
                  - My currently finished and ready-to-use Crossover Verse is K Proj., which can be read about right here.
Review Variety Pack: Singers, Vampires, and Autopsies
When you write reviews, there are some weeks where there’s simply nothing on the schedule that grabs your interest or sparks any ideas that you feel compelled to write down. Then there are the times where you have the opposite problem, and you end up watching more than enough content to fill two or three articles, and you just don’t know what to pick. When this happens, I’m often torn between my desire to cover everything I see to produce more content and talk about as many different things with my readers as physically possible, and the practical limitation of only having so much time each week to properly go into extensive detail of what I’ve seen. Well, on this occasion, I thought I would try something a little different and take a quick look at a couple films and a TV series rather than dedicate an entire article to just one of them. Don’t worry, I’ll be back to the more in-depth format for my reviews soon enough. For now, this approach just allows me to catch up on some of the content I’ve been meaning to talk about, as well as point you all in the direction of a couple of items. There may even be one or two which have flown under the radar for you.
 ‘A Star is Born’
Tumblr media
         Okay, so maybe not ALL of these are smaller projects that haven’t received a lot of media attention. But whatever – the deal with this movie is that Bradley Cooper decided to direct the latest in what has apparently been a long line of remakes and adaptations of the 1937 movie A Star is Born. Cooper plays a popular male singer who discovers a young woman with a talent for singing, played by Lady Gaga, who he wants to introduce to the world and drama ensues as they start a relationship and her fame keeps growing. I have no familiarity with the original or any of the other three remakes listed on Wikipedia, so take that for whatever it’s worth when I say I’m glad I saw this film.
         The 2018 A Star is Born seems to be made with the knowledge that the audience has likely heard this song before. Even if you’re like me and you haven’t seen any of the four previous versions of this film, the rise-to-stardom story is so well-established that it’s a safe bet that you’ll recognise many of the typical story beats of this kind of film. You see the future star’s humble origins, their soaring debut, their optimism for their bright future, them getting signed on for a record label and a soulless manager character entering the picture, their image having to be changed as they get pushed further into the public eye, someone close to them criticising them because they believe the star has lost their way, one of the characters taking a bad turn as it starts to feel like the star has lost all control of their life, and so on. It’s a story we know, but A Star is Born appears to be conscious of this fact. Towards the end of the film, there’s a conversation where a character reflects on how the same notes are repeated over and over between different songs. The character remarks that it’s in the different ways that people see those notes and interpret them through their music that new experiences are created.
         And I think that’s what this film does. The story may be similar to half a dozen other examples, but the execution is what engages. There’s a naturalistic direction to the film that you can see through the way characters talk over each other as they conduct their conversations, or the slight documentary-style to the cinematography, or the minimal use of non-diegetic music which makes the soundtrack seem as if it’s coming from the characters themselves as they sing and play throughout the story. This increases the sense of impact to some of the events within the story because the film is selling you on the impression that what you’re seeing is really happening. On top of that, Lady Gaga’s experience as a professional singer not only enables her to sing well throughout the film, but it also helps her to convey the emotions and thought processes being experienced by her character as she sings. She’s able to deliver a dramatic performance alongside her musical performance, and that’s compelling to watch.
         The 2018 version of A Star is Born is not telling a new story, but it manages to tell a familiar narrative in a way that manages to be distinctive and emotionally affecting. If any of the people involved make the film of interest to you, or if the mood takes you and you want to experience a decent version of this sort of rising-star story, then this version of A Star is Born is a decent pick. Now I just have to watch Bohemian Rhapsody and see if the other film about musical celebrities currently out in cinemas does as good a job at hitting its marks.
Final Score: Bronze / Silver
 ‘Castlevania’ Season 2
Tumblr media
         Castlevania is one of those franchises that, on first inspection, appears to have a complicated history with dozens of instalments all coming together to form this grand tapestry telling the story of the war between Dracula, destined to reincarnate every 100 years, and the Belmonts, a family of vampire hunters that have dedicated their entire lineage to keeping Dracula and his forces of darkness at bay. And for fans who want to read into it, that expansive timeline is absolutely there, but on a very simple level, every Castlevania game more or less tells the same story. Dracula shows up along with his huge labyrinthine castle, and someone with a whip and a bunch of vampire-hunting equipment rocks up to kick him back into his coffin. Sometimes there are other characters along for the ride to make it slightly more complicated, but that’s the general gist. Also, there’s always some excellent music accompanying the proceedings.
         The first season of the Netflix animated series Castlevania adapted the story of the third game in the series. As it was only four 20-minute episodes, the first season is barely longer than a feature-length movie, and just as it finds its purpose and you feel like you’re getting into it, it ends. It wasn’t anything more than a semi-decent series, but I felt like there was potential when I watched it last year. The animation during the scenes where characters are simply talking to one another was stiff and you’d only see characters shift in place after a sentence or two, rather than exhibit more natural, flowing movement from moment-to-moment. But the action scenes were clearly where the animation budget went, as fights were creative and choreographed with a satisfying flair which showcased the animator’s passion for the source material. Performances were suitably brooding and at the right level between genuine human levels of emotion and melodramatic excessiveness, which is fitting for something Gothic and cheesy like this. At times the excessive gore and general revelling in shock-factor violence grated on me, and none of the characters really captured my interest or felt like I could get behind them until the second half of the last episode.
         Now Season 2 of Castlevania doesn’t fix all of my issues with the previous season, but I am very happy with some of the progress I’ve seen so far. I haven’t finished the season yet, as I’m six episodes in and have two left before I’m done, but I’ve seen enough to say that the extra time has benefitted the writers, allowing them to take the time to further explore characters and focus on conversations and interactions between the different members of the cast. The result is a more satisfying and complete-feeling season.
         Apart from that, my thoughts are more or less the same as the first season. I like their presentation of the series’ established Gothic aesthetic through the impressive backgrounds and character design. I enjoy seeing characters and references from the games and think the showrunners are doing a great job at translating the tone of the games to an ongoing TV series. The excessive gore is a little much at times, and not because I can’t handle it, but because it feels inelegant and unnecessary when they’re already doing such a good job at establishing a Gothic atmosphere. I am enjoying the characters more, even though the attempts at humour feel a little awkward (though I think that’s part of the intentional style of the series, so take that for what it’s worth). All in all, a solid series that has gotten better since last year, but still has several areas in which it could improve. If you enjoy the original games or are a fan of cheesy Gothic fantasy, then give it a watch.
Final Score: Copper / Bronze
 ‘The Autopsy of Jane Doe’
Tumblr media
         Watching this 2016 horror movie from André Øvredal, the director of Trollhunter, was how I spent Halloween this year, and it was a night well spent. A father-son pair of coroners are given an unidentified body of a woman that was found on a crime scene and are tasked with finding a cause-of-death by morning so that the local sheriff can give a full statement on the matter. As they proceed with the autopsy, they find more and more things which don’t add up. There are signs of things happening to the body which don’t make scientific sense when you consider the body’s appearance, and to top it off, there’s an uneasy atmosphere around the office as things just don’t feel right. And from there, I’ll keep you in the dark, as one of the most enjoyable elements to watching this film for the first time is trying to work out what’s going on alongside the two main characters as they dig further into this mystery.
         The Autopsy of Jane Doe got under my skin because it taps into the uneasiness you often feel when you’re stuck in an office or medical building late at night and you’re one of the only people remaining. It makes effective use of space to create a suffocating feeling to the autopsy room and the one or two other spaces our characters find themselves in as the film goes on. The use of the right-angled corridor to create suspense as you fear what might come around the corner is commendable. Both of the two main actors, Brian Cox as the father and Emile Hirsch as the son, work well in their roles, selling you on their close, familial relationship as well as the fact that they are professional coroners, so they know what to do and how to handle their nerves around a dead body, but they’re also human enough to get a little uneasy when things start looking weird.
         As I touched on earlier, I was really drawn in by the set-up to The Autopsy of Jane Doe, fascinated to learn more as conflicting pieces of information are revealed to both the characters and the audience. It’s an exciting sensation that I think is unique to horror; it’s the human urge to find out more even when all signs are telling you that you should stop delving into this unsettling area. You have to know the truth and understand what’s going on, even when it takes you to deadly territory. It’s such a recurring feeling that I experience when watching horror, as well as see in the motivations of the characters within horror narratives, that I consider the horror and mystery genres to be close relatives. The Autopsy of Jane Doe is dripping with that sense of horrific mystery as it centres on an autopsy, a procedure that is done when you want to find out the truth behind something but is also inherently unsettling as you are staring face-to-face at death, in all its detail.
         This horror movie has a great premise which is executed with impressive technical ability by its actors, cinematographer, and director (even if it leans on the jump-scare tactic a little too much). For those who like their horror with an air of mystery, then this is a hard recommend.
Final Score: Silver
What do you consider when pulling from extra-canonical sources? Are there any requirements a text, film, etc. must meet for you to consider using it? What disqualifies a piece of media from becoming part of your Renfield's canon?
it’s unofficial headcanon day!!
ooh boy!! ok so i take canon as only being the text of the original novel, so all adaptations are extra-canonical to me. the things that i choose to pull are usually on areas of renfield’s life untouched on by canon. so the best example is renfield’s childhood, which we know NOTHING about. so i read or watch other media on dracula or, if i’m really lucky, on renfield specifically, and identify what parts i think work best with the established canon of the original. so anything added has to not just … not offend canon, but it needs to build on canon and do something worthwhile with canon.
‘the book of renfield’ is my main extra-canon source because it has an intimate understanding of the original novel and doesn’t just strive to give you random facts about a childhood renfield MIGHT have had and canon can’t say otherwise, but to give you facts about him that add up to the man you meet in his later life. it answers how he came to be a servant of dracula and it adds something to our understanding of his conflicted relationship with dracula in canon. it talks about his love of animals and this sets up the deep turmoil we see near the end of his life about the existence of an animal soul that could hate him for those he’s killed.
when more than one source is available on a topic, say his pre-asylum adult life, i weight what makes the most sense, what is narratively most relevant, and what builds a more complex character and plays on the themes or symbols already associated with renfield. pre-asylum backstory is talked about in tBoR, ‘renfield: slave of dracula,’ the 1931 tod browning film, and the 1992 coppola film, to pick a few. let’s look at them.
in both the latter films, renfield was previously a solicitor, and this seeks to explain his connection to dracula, which is helpful. he goes mad in these versions from his association with dracula, landing him in the asylum.
‘R:SoD’ makes him a merchant trader, though he never meets dracula in travel, and gives him a family that he thinks he can bring back from the dead with vampire’s powers, which explains his obsession with becoming a vampire himself. his entrance into the asylum is explained as a vicious move by his wife’s family to take his daughter from him, and with her his family’s relative wealth.
‘tBoR’ makes him a nouveau-riche socialite financed by dracula’s wealth and then a vagabond when he tries to refuse that control over him, which sets up renfield’s idea of dependency on dracula. in this version renfield is lured by who he thinks is one of dracula’s brides into the ruins of carfax where he is discovered and presumed mad for screaming at no one about having trusted her years ago and being betrayed by her and dracula.
all of these interpretations could be valuable, but some serve better than others. renfield being a solicitor would be useful, but it edges jonathan out of the story sometimes, so i’m not a fan of that. it also doesn’t seem to fit with the skills and knowledge he has in-canon. making him a merchant seems good in concept, but without meeting dracula, why make him a traveler?  ‘R:SoD’ has an interesting and very unique perspective, (and i do take the love interest from that source as part of his adult life, being his only romantic relationship), but their explanation of his incarceration complicates the novel’s canon as it would imply seward had at least SOME contact with renfield’s family and could ask them to fill in blanks about his past. i favor ‘tBoR’ here too for making his arrival narratively relevant to the story at hand, and not a random circumstance of his unrelated life. keeping it centralized to the plot makes for a better narrative, but also explains how he seems to have no resources or family but references diplomatic knowledge of america to quincey, and says he once knew arthur’s father, the former lord godalming, which makes no sense if he held no social status.
any faceclaim is by nature extra-canonical because a book can’t give a faceclaim. in canon verses i use dwight frye because his mannerisms bear the closest resemblance to the novel’s descriptions, though he is DECIDEDLY too young and too small to be canon (for this reason i YEARN for the day when i find a replacement that is in the range of 50-60 in age and can be the jacked grandpa of stoker’s dreams). my modern fc, seb.astion s.tan, was chosen to keep looks consistent-ish with dwight frye BUT get closer to canon in putting the muscular build back on him. faceclaims frustrate me because they’re an extra-canon component i really feel like i’ll never get right without a Truly Canon adaptation.
i could keep going forever, but i think the tl;dr of this answer is: it has to add to and develop renfield in a meaningful way, and you should read ‘tBoR’ because it’s a masterpiece and where much of my extra content comes from.
“Vos Anima Mea” (Kihyun Vampire AU)  Part 1
Tumblr media
* See Masterlist for additional chapters
Title: Vos Anima Mea
Featuring: Kihyun (Monsta X) x Reader
POV: 2nd
Summary: You’ve always been attracted to the dark side of life, but even you aren’t sure what you’ve gotten yourself into, painting the portrait of a vampire prince.
Requested by anon! I really didn’t mean for this to turn into a chaptered thing BUT HERE WE ARE. Hope you enjoy :)
Your boots thumped against the pavement, echoing into each alley you passed. Steam rose from street grates and rooftops, curling into a starless black sky. You hugged your arms close to your body, eyes darting to every corner, just in case. You always had to be aware here.
You reached aninconspicuous staircase on the side of an old building that led to an even more unremarkable black door. You knocked three times and a slat opened to a small window. The person on the other side simply breathed.
“Hemoglobin” You uttered, and the slat slammed closed before the door swung open.
You came to a long corridor with a flickering fluorescent light, off-putting the first time you came here but you were used to it now, you knew what it led to.
You pushed open a door at the end of the hall into a dimly lit room, floor to ceiling black with a tinted window booth to one side. You approached and slid a black and silver keycard underneath the window, and after a moment it was returned to you with a red silk wristband.
You put away the card and slid the silk over your hand before heading to the other door, where a burly man examined your wrist and let you through.
Immediately the thumping bass of loud music hit you in a wave as you entered a large room that looked like a windowless nightclub.  Red satin draped from the ceilings and over black couches, bodies swayed hypnotically on a central dance floor with shiny black floors. People wore masks of leather, lace, or animal likeness, their bodies in elaborate costuming or very little fabric at all.
Amongst your friends, family, and co-workers you were mild-mannered, a little quiet, known for your sometimes off-kilter interests but that was about it. None of them had any idea about this side of you.
You started seeking in your late teens, places where the unusual, odd, and passionate convened. You had a few missteps along the way, finding yourself in places you didn’t quite like. Fetish clubs weren’t your thing, dungeons were too intense, and some places boasted about being truly unique but were just typical nightclubs; you didn’t seek cheap sexual thrills or debauchery, you looked for beauty and art that came wrapped up in a darker package.
Out of all the bizarre places you ventured, this was your favorite, known only as “The Corridor” to that privy to that information. It was never advertised, nor talked about openly; it was all word of mouth and invite only. Someone had to vouch for you, and an intense screening process kept out undesirables.
You’d been coming regularly for 2 months, and had made a fair share of new friends, ones you only saw in the clubs and nowhere else.
You moved to a long cherry-wood bar and waved to a bartender, Samantha, who grinned at you . She had black hair cut into a straight bob and bangs cut into a triangle.
“What can I get for you, Little Dove?” She asked, leaning on the bar, and you blushed. You had somehow acquired a nickname in your time here, given to you by Samantha and used by everyone who knew of you.  You didn’t really participate in all of the shenanigans like others did, instead you liked to take a seat on the balcony and watch, entranced at all you saw around you, and use it later as inspiration for your paintings. Samantha noticed you right away, and told you that you reminded her of a small white bird, perched upon a rooftop watching the world go by.
“The usual, please.” You said, sliding your money, and a generous tip, across the bar. Samantha snatched it up with a wink in your direction and went off to make your drink.
You turned around and leaned on the bar, taking in the scenery. It was fairly crowded for a weeknight, which was your favorite time to come by. Sure, the weekends got crazy, but there was plenty to see on a Wednesday night, too.
Samantha returned with your cocktail, making sure to add an extra cherry to the little black sword.
“Keep them coming?” She asked, and you nodded, thanking her as you went to your usual table on the balcony.
You had a great view from here, it was right over the dance floor and the stage, which was the real bread and butter. The club always had elaborate acts full of sparking metal, ambient music, costumes, fake blood, you name it.  Sometimes the acts were so convincing you forgot where you were, and had trouble separating reality from fiction in the most enticing way. It was the ultimate form of escapism.
The music faded out and a spotlight hit the stage. All of the revelers turned at once to watch, cheering as they did so. A woman lay on the ground in intricate period costuming, a white dress with a gold bodice and impossibly large skirt with lace hems and pearls covering her from neck to chest.  She sobbed audibly into a frilly handkerchief, lamenting about her lost love.
A man entered, in a 3-piece Victorian suit with ruffled collar and long black hair, face chiseled by the Gods. The woman gasped and sat up, clutching her handkerchief to her face.
“It can’t be” She wailed, shielding her eyes. Even from here, you could see that as the man smiled, sharp fangs glinted in his mouth.
“I have returned, my dear.”
He descended upon her, sinking his teeth into her neck. The woman screamed, at first, but then fell into his embrace willingly with a sigh. Blood began to run a gushing river down the front of her neck, coating her white pearls and white dress, soaking through the fabric and creating a bright red splatter across an otherwise stark white design.
“You’ve come home.” She said, elated, and the two kissed, blood smearing over their mouths. The stage went dark. The music came back on.
You sipped your drink as you thought about how realistic the blood looked, and wondered if there was some kind of complicated tubing hidden in the folds of her gown. Nevertheless, it created a beautiful image you could see yourself recreating in paint.
“You should really show some of your work.”
Samantha’s voice brought you out of your thoughts as she sat another cocktail down. You had almost finished the first, her timing was always uncanny.
“What? Me?” You asked, looked surprised, even if that wasn’t the first time she’d asked. You got a little too drunk one night and showed Samantha a bunch of your paintings on your phone, and she’d been bugging you ever since to bring one in, or have it displayed somewhere other than your studio.
“Of course, you! Your stuff would look great in here.” She said with an honest smile, and you shook your head.
“Ah, maybe someday.”
She tsk’d you, lovingly, and then waved as she headed back to the bar. Not long after that, you were approached by someone else. Someone unfamiliar.
“Miss? Would you mind coming with me?”
You blinked up at him. “Is there a problem?”
“Not at all.” He flashed a quick smile, and you swore you saw fangs, but maybe that was just your eyes playing tricks on you, still enamored from the performance. “There’s someone that would like to speak with you.”
You stood from the table, finishing your cocktail and following the man. He took you toward the back of the club, down another strange corridor to an elevator. The man didn’t speak as you rode up several floors.
The door opened to what looked like a pent house, something you didn’t think this old stone building would have. It was lavishly decorated, with intricate wallpaper, lush carpet, and elegant red furnishings. A couple people slinked around the room as music played softly somewhere in the distance.  They were all immaculately dressed and gorgeous. You didn’t know what to think or feel.
You came into a room where guests were seated throughout, sipping cocktails and talking low; at the center of the room, in a large armchair sat a young man.
His dark hair was pushed up, styled, with the under part shaved short. He wore one long silver earring and a black sweater that hung off his lithe frame. His eyes met yours immediately and you felt a strange rush of adrenaline, swearing for a moment that there was hint of red that flashed through the otherwise nearly black iris.
Your escort brought you to stand before him and he sat up straight.
“Are you the one they call ‘Little Dove’?” He inquired, and you tried not to blush again. Every time someone uttered that nickname you felt something, pleasurable yet bashful all at once.
“I suppose I am.” You said coyly, averting your eyes a moment.
“I was hoping to meet you tonight.” He said, and you were starting to wonder if he had the right person.
“Come, sit.” He gestured to the chair nearest him, and then made a motion with his hand. At once, everyone else in the room left.
He leaned over toward a low table where a crystal bottle sat, pulling the top off and pouring some brown liquid into two small glasses. He offered you one and you took it, bringing it to smell first, then to taste. It was dry and sweet, like an old wine.
“I’ve been hearing a lot about you, mostly from Samantha.” He started, and you should have known she was the one behind this.
“Forgive me, where are my manners. My name is Kihyun.” He said, and despite how youthful he appeared, he spoke eloquently and moved with grace as he extended his hand. You reached out thinking to shake his, but instead he held your fingertips and kissed the top. You swallowed hard.
“Is that a good thing or a bad thing, Samantha mentioning me?” You asked, laughing awkwardly as you pulled your hand back.
He gave a slight smile. “In this case, it’s good.”
You watched as he took a moment to savor a taste of his drink before speaking again.
“You paint.” He said as a statement, and all you could do was nod.
“The ones she showed me, those were yours?”
You wondered how Samantha had gotten a copy of the pictures you took, and then remembered you’d emailed some to her. Now you were actually blushing.
“Yes, they were….I mean are.” You fumbled, staring down into the brownish liquid.
“They’re beautiful; detailed, ambitious, yet something emotional and dark about them.” He explained, and you were touched.
“Thank you.” You said honestly, finally looking up to meet his eyes once more.
“Would you mind painting something for me?” He asked suddenly, and you were taken aback once more. He brought you up here for a commission?
“It’s a portrait, of myself. “ He continued and you watched him for a moment, realizing he was completely serious.
“You want me to…paint you?” You asked, making sure you’d heard him right.
“Yes. I’ve been looking for the right artist for ages, and I’ve had a couple portraits done but I’m never satisfied with the outcome. I think you may have exactly what I’m looking for.”
You were thrilled, truly, but you didn’t typically do portraits, nor did you even know who this Kihyun really was.
“I’m flattered, however,” You swallowed another dry drink. “I don’t really paint portraits, and I don’t think I can do justice to someone I don’t really know.”
“So it would be a challenge then, no?” He posed, smirking as he did so. He did have a point; you were feeling a bit stale lately constantly having to come up with things from your imagination.  This might be an interesting departure.
“You will be paid, of course. How does $6,000 to start and another $6,000 once you’re finished sound?”
You choked on your drink, eyes widening.
“You’re going to pay me $12,000 to paint you?” You repeated, and he laughed.
“If you finish, of course. If for some reason you don’t, the $6,000 is yours, no strings attached.”
How could you say no to an offer like that? Even if he was a complete stranger, you’d consider this worth the risk.
“To start, I’ll tell you a bit about me. I own this club, and a few more in this city. I’m a purveyor and lover of all art, music, expression, and that’s why I pour all my time and money into these establishments. To have a great artist such as yourself capture my essence would be an honor.”
You liked the sound of all that, and gave a firm nod, reaching out a hand.
“Deal.”
He chuckled, standing from his seat. “Ah, that’s not quite how we do deals around here, Little Dove.”
His sweet voice repeating that name made you shiver and you stood to follow him as he left the room. You came to an office with a large desk and walls covered in bookshelves. He took a rolled up piece of parchment paper from a drawer and unraveled it, already inked with the agreements. He handed it to you, and then leaned against his desk with his arms crossed and watched as you read over it. It all seemed fairly innocuous to you.
“Where do I sign?” You asked, raising your hand to take a pen from him. He produced a silver tipped fountain pen, but instead of handing it over, grabbed your hand and turned it palm up.
“Do you mind?” He asked, pressing the nib into your fingertip, not yet hard enough to poke through the skin, but you knew that’s what he intended to do. You felt a brief moment of panic, before realizing who and what you were dealing with. Of course these kinds of people wanted things signed in blood.
“Go on.” You said softly, and Kihyun poked your finger quickly. You winced only a little bit.
As the blood rose into a perfect dot on your finger, you carefully turned it over and signed your name as best you could.  When you finished, you looked up to find Kihyun staring intently at your hand, breathing a little harder, and that same flash of color in his eyes. He quickly collected himself and smiled at you, rolling up the parchment and putting it away.
“Lovely. I’ll see you next week, same time. Instead of your usual password, tell the doorman “anima mea””
You agreed, giving your goodbye and being escorted back downstairs.  You decided you’d had enough excitement for one night and walked yourself home.
In all the times you’d traveled these streets alone, you never felt as if you were being watched, but tonight you did, and you wondered why it comforted you more than frightened you.
