idea: azura’s vanity is what causes the fall of the first council. she created nerevar to be her perfect champion, someone who loves her so unconditionally that he has no room in his heart to love anyone else.

nerevar does not love the first council. it’s not that he doesn’t want to, I think he truly wants to tell them that he would love them if he could, it’s that he literally can’t. azura always comes first. everything he does is in her name. but the council, for the most part, loves him. and it’s that undying love they have for him that cause them harm.

voryn waits at the heart of lorkhan, even though he knows it’s corrupting him. he knows if he stays, he will be consumed. but he loves nerevar and trusts him so much that he is physically, mentally, and spiritually destroyed, doomed to become a husk of who he once was.

vehk and ayem view nerevar as their savior. he rescued them from traumatic lives where they had no control of their fate. of course they love him, he’s their everything. they’ve never known what it’s like to be truly loved. but seht does. he sees through nerevar, sees that azura is pulling the strings. so he convinces the other two to rebel, to reclaim their people from an egotistical god. nerevar will never see reason, so he must die even if it pains them so.

when he dies, azura reincarnates nerevar for her own selfish reasons. she wants revenge and wants to keep her perfect champion. the puppet she can use to claim the worship she so rightly deserves. she hopes that his reincarnations will love her like he did. and if they don’t, she will destroy them until one does.

and the nerevarine has to cope with the fact that nerevar was not the hero everyone claims he is. if they’re struggling with their identity (are they nerevar, are they not, etc), perhaps they find some closure knowing that nerevar was a victim of azura and fate too.

I'm dissecting Tobias whenever he has a mood swing on main bc compared to his childhood era they're SO much rarer nowadays. These days he's either apathy embodied (*compared to anger personified as a kid) or he throws an impulsively angry fit that ends in the other person's death; never in a peaceful resolution. The fact that he's even composed enough to walk away from something that makes him annoyed now is a huge step forward from his younger self patience-wise, but every time he walks away it's simultaneously further detaching him from the rare emotion he does possess and alienating him even more from the people around him who are, at moments like these, blatantly shown that they're being kept at an arm's length no matter how close they previously believed they were with/to him
