I've not seen this movie, and don't plan on seeing it in all honesty (open to it though because it looks like it could actually be funny to me, but it's 50/50) but from what I've seen so far through stuff like this is that these two share like 3 braincells and Barbie has then most of the time (I'm honestly assuming that's her name actually, I feel like I've seen things with her called that but I honestly can't remember.... having an awful memory and adhd is fun)

I JUST HAD A THOUGHT

Okay so think about it; I’m sure Eddie doesn’t hang out with a ton of girls, not on purpose, he just mainly hangs out with the hellfire club and his band members.

Then you show up

And you fit right in with everyone. It’s so easy to talk to you since you both have similar interests and you’re very chill about everything. Sure you get excited and into the game play but overall you just like to hang and talk about similar interests! You hang out, listen to music and what not. He loves spending time with you, he feels so relaxed around you.

Maybe a little too relaxed. You don’t mind of course because you know, Eddie is just your friend. He’s made that painfully clear that he just sees you as another one of his guy friends, which is fine.

Then one day, he’s walking around town and he sees you in the video rental store talking to Robin. You guys are going crazy over something and he realizes you’re giggling and there’s something else… he can’t put his finger on it but he knows he’s blushing. He better go say hi and see what’s so funny.

He walks in and Robin greets him half assed as soon as she recognizes who it is and gives him a witty one liner.

“Whatcha guys talking about?”

“Oh Robin was just telling me about the new Tom Cruise movie that just came out. Apparently Nancy is reeeaaalllyyyy into him but he’s not really my type”

He stands there a bit dumbfounded

“You’re… you’re talking about.. Tom cruise? And your type?”

“It sounds silly but Robin says it’s a good movie! Maybe I’ll have to watch and see what Nancy sees in him” you and Robin both laugh at the thought a little bit

Eddie is just staring at you, realizing he’s caught you talking to your friend.. about boys. and he would have this ridiculous epiphany. “You really are a girl”

You stiffen a bit and it doesn’t go unnoticed “Uhh yeah… last time I checked Ed, what have I been this whole time? An alien?” You’re not dumb, again, you know exactly how Eddie saw you but this just drove the knife a bit deeper.

“No that’s not- I didn’t mean- no I just-“

Robin let’s out an exhausted sigh “look dorky ozwad, just because she plays dnd with you and goes to concerts and knows how to hang doesn’t make her any less of a girl. It’s the 80s dude, girls can like fantasy and metal just as much as they like romance”

Eddie stands there dumbfounded, he’d feel like an idiot. He knows it shouldn’t matter and to him it still doesn’t. He just never realized how “bro-y” he had been towards you. And it makes him feel silly. Now everything makes sense as to why he always likes to watch you smile and laugh (he’d do anything to make you laugh) or why he always wants to hang out with you. He likes you. More than just a friend, and not even just because you’re a girl- because you’re YOU. He just forgot that sometimes to get the girl, you have to treat her with a bit more rizz than he would a guy friend.

He’d be standing there an awful long time and your also standing there in silence, blushing profusely at everything that just unfolded. Of course you told Robin about feeling just like another one of his friends which would have been FINE with you.. but it wasn’t really. You wanted him to look at you differently, not entirely, but just enough to see you in a different light.

After that day he does. He notices the way you greet everyone with a bit of a pep to your step. How you always make sure you have a good outfit, even when you’re just lazing about. You always are prepared for every situation, and most of all, he notices every kindness you share to those around you. You’re sweet, you’re nice, and you’re so pretty it’s ridiculous. He’s been so blind this whole time because on top of all that, you go into battle every week during hellfire with no mercy. You go to metal concerts and are in the middle of most mosh pits. You are able to stand your ground in any argument big or small, and you can out do any of the guys in any random prank or dare.

You are perfect to him. He knows this. Now he has to figure out how to make sure YOU know he thinks you’re perfect.

He has no IDEA where to start

“I NEED ADVICE” as he slams the doors to the video rental place, to see not only Robin but also Steve. Perfect.

“Whoa dude okay are you finally ready to listen to other things besides screaming for 10 minutes?”

“For the last time, it is music, and no that’s not what I’m here for” he’d look at Robin and she’d smirk “ahh.. you’re finally here for lady advice I see”

“Lady advice? You? Who’s the lucky gal? Is it y/n? Took you long enough-

“I KNOW I know but I don’t know what to do.”

“Just you know.. treat her like a girl

Robin elbows him “dude, come on, what era are you two from? different wording. Treat her like she’s special. Treat her like you would do anything to make her happy”

“I would do that, but I don’t know HOW that’s why I’m here”

Robin groans “look, you guys hang out ALL the time, SURELY you’ve noticed SOMETHING she wants a guy to do for her”

The next morning you’d be making your way to your locker when you notice Eddie is already there.

With his hair pulled back into a low messy bun. And he’s wearing a button up. And he looks like he’s either going to freak any second or faint in the process.

“Good morning Eddie. What’s with the get up? I’ve NEVER seen you this formal… are you wearing cologne?”

“Haha yeah uh- um- I am. I was trying to smell nice compared to the normal weed, beer, and cornflakes-“

“I like your normal smell”

“What? No that’s not- we’ll come back to that” You’ve been there all of 10 seconds and he’d already be flushed. you giggle and only just realize then that he’s holding something behind his back. He pulls out a bouquet of flowers, beautiful and bright

You feel so bad for trying not to laugh. He notices immediately and starts to regret everything. Of course you wouldn’t like this, or him. He puts them away but you’d grab his arm back out and take the flowers, still giggling to yourself

“I’m sorry, sorry, I’m being so incredibly rude. This is VERY sweet of you, but this is SO out of character for you. What’s going on?”

“Well you know.. after the other day with Robin I realized I’ve never really shown you.. how.. I feel about you? And like sure we play dnd together and you come to my concerts and we are together all the time because I love being around you but you.. deserve to be treated like you’re special. Because you are.. to me..”

He wishes the ground could swallow him whole

You look at him with those gentle eyes and you look back at this bouquet he’s brought you and you just smile so big. “Well.. you certainly have made me feel special right now. But next time, just know you do not have to dress up like a job-monkey. I think your jacket is hot enough”

He lights up “really? You like my jacket?”

“Duh. I like everything about you, even the nasty things, and believe me you’ve got those. But I like that you treat me like me. Like a person. Not just a playtoy or separate species. I will admit though, it would be nice if you held my hand or showed any kind of affection”

He’s looking at you dumbfounded. You’d just take it as your cue to grab his hand and start walking towards your English class together. You stop by his locker though so he can change and eventually the two of you are just as you were, but a little bit more. He gets more comfortable with you and eventually everything works out as you planned it- after all, flirting with boys especially Eddie isn’t rocket science.

1. Song of the year?

GREAT question. I am absolutely dreadful at music, I typically find a few songs and then listen to them on repeat without branching out 😅 BUT! I think this year for me it's "The Ballad of Jane Doe" which is a song from the musical, "Ride the Cyclone." I listened to it a lot earlier in the year when I was dogsitting for a friend's boss and it was what I was really listening to when I started writing An Evening to Ourselves! Which kicked off my whole fic writing journey! I wouldn't say it has ANY similar vibes to my writing, but I listened to it so much around then that now it just reminds me of writing 🥰

3. Favorite musical artist / group you started listening to this year?

Hmm I think this one's pretty basic but Chappell Roan? My roommate has been a fan of hers for years but I really started listening to her once my sister started getting obsessed with her. My beta also got married this year and she said that her favorite part of her wedding was singing Chappell Roan on the dance floor with me and our dnd group! So yeah, probably Chappell!

4. Movie of the year?

Gotta go look to make sure but I THINK probably Wicked. I LOVE musicals, and Wicked is one of the first ones I ever listened to with some of my childhood friends growing up. We'd sing "Defying Gravity" in my best friend's bedroom and switch off who sang for who. I've seen it twice now and loved it both times!! I can't stop listening to "No One Mourns The Wicked" lol.

6. Episode of tv or webisode that defined the year for you?

This is super tough. The only thing I can really think of is the episode of Fantasy High: Junior Year where the Bad Kids take part in The Last Stand. Basically, Fantasy High is an actual play dnd show by Dimension 20 on Dropout and this year they aired their third season of this particular campaign. In the Last Stand episode, the party was taking a test to see if they pass Junior Year and it was just EVERYONE at the top of their games and playing so smart and funny and well. My roommate and I were like "this is our superbowl" 😂 I wouldn't say it DEFINED the year for me, but it definitely sticks out as one of the more memorable things I watched this year! Plus, I love playing dnd with my friends and seeing the performers from D20 perform around town :)

9. Best month for you this year?

I think I'll go with November! That was my birthday month, and I got to spend so much time with my friends. We went to Medieval Times and were put on the evil Green Knight's team and it was SO MUCH FUN!!! I also spent Thanksgiving with my roommate and her family which was a nice change that I absolutely adored. We had great food, decorated for Christmas, went to the movies, went shopping, and watched Finding Mr. Christmas on Hallmark. Which! Is a HILARIOUS show. They're trying to find the next male lead in a Hallmark movie. We made a bracket of who we think will win and everything. Just an overall fun time 🤩

11. Something you want to do again next year?

HMM........... Another tough question. Mostly because I have the memory of a goldfish and I have to try and remember what I've done this year lol. I'd honestly LOVE to go back to Medieval Times at some point and then go to the Pirate Adventure theater across the street this time! (There's another themed restaurant down the street that's pirate themed and I'm VERY interested in seeing a show there too). OH!!! And I want to keep writing. Idk if I'll get Part 7 of Beauty and the Bard out before the new year, but I'm SO excited to continue writing!!!

16. Post a picture from the beginning of the year

OOOOOH I like this one. Please hold. How about a face reveal? Here's me at the local Ren Faire back in April! Ignore whatever weird thing is happening with the angle of my foot, but this is my attempt at Birdie, my Tav, cosplay! Birdie started as my dnd self-insert character and so this is more of that version of her than her BG3 counterpart. It was really hard finding pics of stuff I did at the beginning of this year because for the most part, I was working from home so there were mostly pics of my cat. But Ren Faire is a blast! Highly recommend going to one at least once.

18. A memorable meal this year?

Not to sound like a broken record, but probably Medieval Times! You're supposed to eat with your hands but my bestie brought plastic silverware. You got chicken, potato, corn, garlic bread, tomato soup, and an eclair! It was really so much fun watching knights ride horses while eating a hearty meal 😂

19. What’re you excited about for next year?

I'm going to two weddings next year in Europe! One of my cousins is getting married in Italy in May, and another cousin is getting married in Ireland in October! I'm in sort of a weird place work wise, but hopefully I'll be able to get time off and attend both! I've already said yes to Italy which I'm really excited about! I'd love to go to Ireland too, but again, idk what the state of work will be at that time. We shall see!!

20. What’s something you learned this year?

Again, here's where my goldfish memory kicks me in the ass. I guess I'd say I learned that I can write pretty well! I kind of always knew that based on what and how I did in school, but it's nice to share my goofiness with people other than teachers, myself, and close friends! I was being really hard on myself because I'm trying to eventually become a screenwriter (someone who writes for TV) and I've been struggling to get there while my roommate (who I love and adore and support wholeheartedly!) has been getting some pretty cool accolades in the writing sphere. Point is, I was feeling kind of down about my abilities, but I learned that there's a wonderful and supportive group of people on Tumblr who want you to succeed! And I'm so happy to be a part of it <3

21. What’s something new about your place of residence (room, home, or general location) now vs the start of the year?

Omg SO glad you asked this one: My roommate and I just bought a HUMONGOUS couch for our apartment. Our previous couch was pretty cheap, in that it was foam and springs and we'd sat on it so much that the foam had begun to sag and we could feel all the springs. We got this new couch from a friend for pretty cheap BUT it took us FOREVER to get it into our apartment because of narrow halls and doorways that we forgot to measure. One piece of the couch had to be hoisted over our balcony (luckily we're only on the second floor but YIKES!)! In total it took 5 hours and LOTS of money to pay the movers lol. But DAMN if this new couch isn't the most comfortable thing in the world. We were honestly thinking of moving somewhere cheaper because our rent is SO expensive, but now we're like "well, guess we have to stay here forever since we can't get this couch back out!" 😂

25. Did you create any characters (in games, art, or writing) this year? Describe one.

I did!! Besides Reader in Beauty and the Bard, this year, my roommate ran a western themed dnd campaign and I played the Dumbest Warlock Ever. Her name is Zaddie Zipper (named purely because I thought it would be hilarious to have my friends unironically call me "Zaddie") and she was in a cult of this guy called Ol' Zupp. They're in the middle of the desert and yet everyone wears white robes, live in caves, and nobody talks - they all communicate telepathically, which gets Zaddie into trouble when she meets the rest of our adventuring party (she got punched in the face for saying "hi" to someone in their head 😂). Zaddie thinks she's a cleric to Zupp, but instead she's actually a Warlock who signed her soul away to him during her "Zupp-mitzvah!" She can't read so she names all her spells; Eldritch Blast is "Big Zap," Misty Step is "Poof!," Identify is "What's That?" etc etc. EVENTUALLY she gets her memories back, realizes she was KIDNAPPED, kills Zupp and becomes a Wizard. My DM told me NOTHING about Zaddie's actual past, so her getting her memories back was me actually learning about her life for the first time! I love her so much, she's so fun to play. We just did a great one-shot Christmas special and are hoping to keep playing season 2 of this campaign in the spring! This is the art I use of her, from Sarah Johnson on Pinterest!

2. Who comes up with the best date night ideas?

I wouldn’t really say one of them is better at planning or suggesting a date idea over the other, but I do think that Scott would have the most variety.

I get the vibe that Scott’s more likely to explore activities to do with Thomas and get out of the house to do things (not to say that he isn’t a comfy guy and wouldn’t be down for a movie marathon and cuddle session). As an avid LOTR fan, I think interests in fantasy-related activities comes with the territory (renaissance faires and DnD).

Thomas on the other hand occasionally suggests events they could go to from flyers that he might have seen or places he’s been recommended, like a farmer’s market. I think it’s less planning and more “Ooh what’s this?” But it’s fewer and far between the types of dates that Scott plans. Everything is inter-spliced with the tried-and-true mall date and classic “drive around and park the car in a secluded spot to make out” session lol.

I do think that Thomas would be more open to doing things spontaneously the further into the relationship they are. For example, going to the local yarn store because some small business that Scott mentioned he likes just released a new batch of hand dyed wool, or Thomas having a craving for some pastry he’s never made before and calls Scott to ask if he wants to go down to the store and buy the pan and ingredients with him.

Wow I didn’t think I’d have so much to say on this topic 😆🧶✨ I just realized I made Scott a “I want to share my interests with you so that we can do them together” type of person and Thomas “this made me think of you so let’s do this activity together” kind of guy and I think that’s so cute? 🥹💓 They just fit 😭💞✨

9. Who believes in ghosts?

I had to sit and think for a bit on this one. I definitely think Scott is an all or nothing kind of guy, either he totally believes in ghosts, or not at all, while Thomas on the is open to the idea of supernatural forces but doesn’t actively believe or disbelieve in it. This is subject to change though while I solidify my thoughts writing these characters 🤍

14. Who’s better at writing professional emails?

In high school? I think Scott would be better because he seems like the type to be very attentive to his words and reference “how to write a professional email” blogs. Thomas crosses me as the type to have close and amicable relationships with his teachers and just ask what he needs in-person or from his classmates. If for whatever reason he needs to email a teacher, it would be short and polite.

In college? I think they would both be very good at professional emails but in different ways. Thomas retains his preference for brevity, keeping his emails short and to the point, while Scott makes me think he knows just how to use his words in order to convince someone to grant him a favor or extend a deadline.

Game Review #3 Dresden Files RPG 

So many IPs get adapted using an engine made for one story, that is then manipulated to better fit the established cannon. There are some games that do this quite well like Everyday Heroes with its implementations of a handful of action movies, and the Essence 20 system used to run Power Rangers and other IPs owned by the same company. But it is amazing to see a game that was built from the ground up to support the narrative of a Novel series in an effort so genuine that it even spawned an entirely new game along the way. The Dresden Files RPG was my first experience with Fate as a system. This game keeps many aspects (that's a joke that will land with players of Fate Games) of Fate, and it shines through just how much of the creators of this game are fans of the books. The most minor spoiler for the books, is that Harry actually spends some off screen time in the novels as a TTRPG player. In a very funny and fitting joke, he refuses to play magic users when roleplaying. The RPG is presented like a piece of found literature that could exist in the Universe of the Dresden Files. With that in mind,it is slam packed with spoilers for the series first 7 or so books. Since we are eagerly awaiting book 18 of the series, it's not the worst thing that can happen.

As for the game review, know that this is as much a review of Fate as a whole as it is for this RPG specifically. First off the character creation has a rule that I love so much. In most games, players are punished pretty heavily if they don’t spend all of their advancements right at the top of character creation. For example, if you are coming into a game where your party has chosen to start at level 6, using anything less than the full six levels would be begging to be less effective or have a smaller hit point pool. This leads players new to a system, or to RPGS at all, to make hard choices without the context that they need to make them in an informed way.

Fate turns this on its head, with the idea of Fate Points. These represent two things in the game. They are spent during character creation or between sessions to pick up new abilities. Any points unspent become a resource that recharges per session, used to allow for rerolls, and also hand a small amount of narrative control to the players. With this players aren’t punished for not knowing exactly what their characters should be able to do. Instead, as they develop the narrative of their character, they can use the extra fate points in play. Once they decide the character should learn a new talent or give into temptation and become a vampire, those points are ready to spend, giving up one type of mechanical leverage for another

It was because of this we had a wonderful character in our game named Marcus. He was a “vanilla mortal” cop, meaning he wasn’t a vampire, a were, a magic user, or any other kind of supernatural being. He could have taken some mortal stunts, which are something between a feat and a class feature, but he chose to instead roll through the game with a wild amount of Fate Points. While we had a mummy magic user, a Knight of a fairy court, and a Were-Owl, his decision to play the straight man to everyone else on the team was both narratively interesting and mechanically advantageous. Now something you are going to see as a trend for me when it comes to games is that I love a system that rewards both character choice. Markuses player wasn’t looking for a huge advantage when he made his character, and the system didn’t punish him for choosing to play what other systems would reduce to a meme character. In Fate games like the Dresden Files RPG, Characters are composed of a High Concept,and a trouble that are designed to be thematically linked. What the characters are, and what they struggle with are not just extraneous details like Flaws and Bonds can be in DND, but instead they are core to the gameplay. Those Fate points can’t simply be used for a reroll without consideration. Instead you have to invoke these or other aspects that are written on the characters sheet. In other RPGs these might be simply statements created in a vacuum, but in Dresden Files they are instead the first steps of your character's journey to becoming a protagonist, and they even include cross over with the other players characters. This creates great hooks to use to motivate characters which I will go into greater detail in the future post, Strings to Pull On: Opening up your character to trials and tribulations”. Before I give this a flawless stamp of approval I need to also talk about the parts I don’t love quite as much.  First off is the Fuge Dice. When resolving an action characters will be told of a level of success that they need to get to to complete the action. In addition to any bonus inherent to the character or the particular solution the player will roll 4 Fudge dice. These have 6 faces, two of which are blank, two have pluses, and two have minuses. This means a roll can swing from negative 4 to positive four but average is simply zero.There are ways the players can alter this, mainly their fate points, but in the 70+ systemsI have played, I have never played anything that makes dice rolls feel like they do in Fate. While they can be swingy with a 8 point spread being possible, I find players don’t really want to do a check if they aren't in a mechanically advantageous situation, which with the dice really just means playing to their strength. While this doesn’t kill the system for me, it is the aspect I spend the most time justifying to the players. 

Finally characters will also have three different pools of what other games would label Hit Points. These are each a different type of stress, and rather than direct damage they will have these pools depleted by hostile characters.  Each one can represent a reason why the character has to leave a scene. Physical is pretty obvious and feels the most like normal hit points, with the exception of how little you might have compared to other games. Mental also feels like it makes sense, because rather than for example taking psychic damage to your physical body, you take it to your mental stress track. The hardest one to get your head around will likely be Social Stress. This conceptually represents your character's willingness or maybe at least effectiveness in a social encounter. With Mental and Physical I feel normally end with unconsciousness or the like, it seems that this one needs to be used more to indicate when you character can no longer make any meaningful progress. Overall I really like this stress mechanic, and it does a good job of giving characters the ability to be effective in different situations. Over all I really like this Adaptain of my favorite book series. I consider this a love letter to the work. They were so dedicated to getting this game that as the series outgrew its Noir Roots, they actually spun off the first version of the game into an entirely new system called Spirit of the Century. It’s quite admirable that the developers wanted to make sure the game represented where the story was heading, but managed to salvage the rules they had so far into a new game. 

Whether you are a fan of the Books, urban fantasy, or just good game design I can’t recommend these enough if you can get your hands on it, and if you are coming from a traditional d20 system, it can be a breath of fresh air to change your perspective on collaborative storytelling.

I just followed you in the past few days and had looked through your work more than anything else and when you thanked us I felt kinda bad because I thought it was so so so nice of you to do but I hadn’t put much thought in the person behind it. I was so wrapped up in learning about a new character from a universe I loved that I’ve never noticed before and I took an effing Tolkien humanities collage class. 😅😂

But yeah I had never heard of the elf Feren before you or at least paid attention to him in the hobbit movies I went back and rewatched them to find him 🤣 so thanks a lot man, smh, now I have a new hot elf mans to simp over (I’m joking it actually renewed my interest and I started looking at more backgroundish characters I hadn’t noticed before which is normally my forte being an Infp. I’ve been slacking man.)

Also hello fellow Libra ♎️ I also enjoy dnd I’ve never played but have read a few of the older books, read the Drizzt comics, and haven’t played but watched the play through a of Baldurs gate 3 (Astarion and Sorn Orlith omg 😳) Also have you heard of chuckles the clown? 😂 my favorite race from dnd is half-elves (I was a gifted adhd kid so I can relate to the being picked on and not fitting in) and Drow they fascinate me.

Also Star Wars (there’s a comic from like the 1970’s with a character called Taikotelai who was a one and one like feral so I’m writing a fic to fix that I love him he didn’t deserve to die. Harry Potter too (Ravenclaw is my house, my collage professor also did a Harry Potter humanities class and sorted us into houses and kept score. It was awesome especially since he dressed as snape one time since he’s the same personality type and a Slytherin. (Ravenclaw won, Hufflepuff in second, Slytherin, and Gryphandor had negative points 😂 they kept saying the name Voldemort and he penalized for that.)

Star Trek (depending on the series), transformers especially tfp and tfa prowl (he loves organic nature and quiet which I get). Bluey don’t judge me I’m 20-25 (not comfortable with publicly sharing true age) I’m allowed to like children’s shows and books with some adult themes occasionally, life doesn’t give us a happy ending why should fiction. 😂 marvel, some dc, A-team. MASH klinger is the original Disney Princess 🤣 change my mind if you don’t know who that is you must google him.

Last thing I googled: Elderflower. I wanted to find a reference for drawing one. (Horrible. Too many tiny lil flowers. I think I need a LOT of practice before I can comfortably draw recognizable plants, most of their shapes are very hard for my eyes to catch for some reason.)

Current obsession: I don't know if it'll reach obsession-level fascination for me (this is all very new to me), but I've been feeling very very inspired with various fiber crafts lately! Knitting and sewing and mending my clothes, I don't yet have the skill level to do anything super interesting, but it's so much fun to have something to do with my hands and learn new things and try different stiches and techniques. Definitely having a very good time with my projects at the moment. :3

Were you named after anyone?

"No siree, I'm the only Lady 3250 on this here Rock of Bral. I picked the first part because when I used to serve at an art gallery, before I became sentient, all the finest dressed people signed in as Lady. When I gained awareness, I knew I wanted to be like those people, those walking works of art, so that's the name I picked. It was only later that I realized lady was a title and not a name, but by that time, it'd stuck. 3250 was my old designation. I keep it as a reminder."

When was the last time you cried?

"What a silly question, dahling - can't you see these eyes are made of glass?"

Do you have any kids?

"You just really aren't getting this whole warforged thing, are you? I do not have kids. I suppose I could adopt eventually, but for now, I'm not quite ready to settle down."

Do you use sarcasm a lot?

"Only when I'm in suitable company. Politeness is important, but so is humor in the right crowds."

What is the first thing you notice about people?

"The level of care they put into themselves. A man with clean armor can be expected to be thorough on the battlefield. A mage with an organized spellbook is a mage more likely to not miss anything when investigating an old scroll. I try to surround myself with careful people, though I can't say I always succeed."

What is your eye color?

"A sort of glowing yellow. Like lamplight."

Scary movies or happy endings?

"I feel that horror films can produce a wider array of reactions in the audience if constructed correctly. The moments of fear highlight the times of peace and vice versa, making them both seem all the more potent. It's like a splash of orange paint in a sea of blue."

Any special talents?

"I'm quite the artist. My original medium was sculpture, however of late, I've been experimenting more with spray paint. There's something so intoxicating about art where it shouldn't be. I guess I could say I've also been gaining a talent in talking my way into places I don't belong for that very reason."

Where were you born?

"I was constructed as a non-sentient B2 guard unit on the Rock of Bral, a city floating within the Astral Sea. A merchant by the name of Silvanus Renn bought me to watch over his art gallery, where I spontaneously gained sentience after two years of service. Not that I'm not grateful, but I'm rather curious as to why that happened."

"No, but I've heard tell of spells that grant the caster a familiar companion. I think that would be quite an interesting thing to have at my side."

"Seven feet exactly, but I usually wear heels. I might have changed occupation and rewired some of my brute strength towards nimbleness, however, I am still built as a fighter."

"I never went to school. When I gained sentience, I found I suddenly understood much of what I had perceived when I was mindless - including literacy and mathematics. Books filled in the gaps. I imagine if I has gone though, I would've enjoyed learning history. It's the world's greatest story, after all."

"I always thought it was working for the Bral Artists' Union, but then the guild leader turned out to be a P.O.S. who kicked me out when I left a rather artful, if anatomically exaggerated, marble statue of him outside the guild in retaliation for his changing of my contract without my knowledge. After I've found what I'm looking for out on the starry seas, I imagine I'd like to come back and start my own guild."

You know what Disney movie who’s world building bothers me?

Onward, you have a movie about a fantasy world where magic falls out of style due to technology. Okay that’s interesting but the whole world is just a copy of our world but with elves, Fairies, orcs and stuff and that’s honestly so boring. Their world and history would be so different that their tech would likely be unique to that setting.

I mean honestly I think having a world where there’s a spell that allows you to talk to deceased family members would definitely not have magic be forgotten but gripes like that aside its literally just our world but with a slight fantasy coat of paint.

For example we see a Centaur and he drives a car not a vehicle made for centaurs but just a regular human car that a regular person irl would drive. That’s boring and raises several questions. Would have been much more interesting and fun to design a car built for centaurs like it could motorized horse carriage.

Yeah I really didn’t like watching onward, never even finished that movie it’s world building annoyed me that much so no clue how the plot line with the dad’s walking pants ended (so obviously I’m gonna be missing information)

Especially since most of the magic lore was passed own through….. a DnD parody game of all things, that’s like the only way future generations knew about WW2 was through Cluedo

I think stories like American Dragon or Xiaolin Showdown do a way better job of having magic co exist with modern society ,while without having to go into in deep detail the way onward would have to do it to make its own setting work. In both stories the magic/mystical stuff that goes on in the plot is disconnected from the lives of the majority of people, so unless you’re actively seeking that stuff out or stumble upon it by pure coincidence, the average person in the setting won’t even know magic exists

There isn’t really much of an explanation in Xiaolin Showdown for why the magic conflict isn’t common knowledge ,but there is implications that theres been efforts behind the scenes to ensure it’s self contained. In American Dragon magical creatures have been hunted down by various groups, most prominently the huntsman , so in American Dragon it makes sense for why New York is our world despite having magical creatures in it , because the magic is trying to hide to protect itself

I know someone is going to point out this comparison makes little sense because American Dragon’s magic is hidden while in Onward it’s lost knowledge. But in American dragon mermaids using water tanks and wheel chairs to travel makes sense in the set up that mermaids are in hiding, while in Onward there’s a mermaid deserted on the middle of the lawn in a kiddie pool because…. Why , exactly? How is she gonna get out of that?

Even going with our real world comparison we still have a lot of traditional methods of doing things (like cooking and sewing) despite technology progress. Even if you wanted to make magic out as something difficult and old school, I seriously doubt something that can bring back the dead would only be passed down through a board game if there was no outside factors against it existing

I don’t really like the show anymore but the first three volumes of Rwby actually did this really well. Technically it was Dust and semblances which was not counted as magic (as that was a separate thing apparently) but the set up of people using what’s essentially magic glitter to upgrade their already ridiculous anime logic armoury of “rule of cool,fuck you” to fight each other and monsters is a far more fun and interesting way to explore magic and technology in a setting than “uh, fairies got bored of being able to bend rainbows and forgot to do that in favour of watching the kardashians”

You had arranged for you to collab with one of the Noctyx members named Fulgur Ovid. Up until them he seemed kinda quiet to you, but when you guys were collabing it was like hanging out with old friends. You were making jokes and bantering like there was no tomorrow. Your fans even started shipping you guys which jump started your will they won’t they campaign.

Since then all of your interactions would be slightly flirty, suggestive, and/or teasing. You two did still get very close though, even met up irl after he moved to the states and did and off collab.

When Fulgur’s health declined a bit and he had to go take a break for a little bit you took care of him, and that’s what led him to falling for you. After that his flirting had a lot more feeling behind it, He would be genuinely flustered whenever you flirt back, and sad if you dodged his advances.

One day you were over at his house playing valorant. He thought you were so hot when you were focused he could barley focus on the game. When you guys won your last match you turned to him with a proud smile on your face and that destroyed him. Some news (I guess)

I went through my desk and drawers and went through all my art WIPS. Lots going years back, some nearly a decade old now, that I never got around to finishing. Some I'm not going to finish, that I'm just going to shred and put on the garden as the art has no interest to me now. But others I really want to finish. I'm going to have to redo them from scratch as my art style has improved a lot since when I began creating fanart. (I didn't believe I could draw people before then.) I also have a lot of fic WIPs I want to finish too. Some I've started posting, most that I haven't.

I'm also kind of wanting to get into writing some longer fics. I still love drabbles. But I've got some fic ideas too large for drabbles. I've re-organized my AO3 with this in mind. I had all my bingo and event content grouped together in different series (93 in all - with multiple rounds all saved in the one series). I moved these all into Collections (119 of them, wow) which works so much better for me. This means my AO3 series contains only series, which is great (It's nice to be able to fine my actual series now). I was surprised that I had only created three series. I have plans to create a few more 😉

I gained a few new fandoms. Not that I'm leaving the Marvel fandom. I'm not! I've stopped watching the newer MCU stuff though.

I got around to seeing the DnD film, Honour Among Thieves. Xenk Yendar is dear to me. The movie was so earnest with its storytelling. I could see the way it was going, the tropes were heavily signposted. But it deviled perfectly. You could see what was coming and weren't disappointed with its application. (i.e. Simon/Confidence, Edgin/Letting go etc). It was really well done.

Gates was my favourite until his death. Flint had a lot of redeeming to do in my eyes after that, but he became my new favourite. I'm sorry to say I wasn't a fan of S!lver. He gave me anxiety from the get-go with all his plotting and antics (some of which, I admittedly found amusing). I was torn between laughing and wanting to throttle him until season 3. During which, my opinion of him started going downhill with few redeeming moments. (The final episode was the nail in the coffin for me.)

Do I think S!lver killed Flint?  I don't think it matters. Both endings are equally devastating. Death or the plantation (possibly allowed to be with Thomas if the owner is benevolent enough to let them have time together - unlikely - Oglethorpe speaks of people 'cease[ing] to be' in the same way S!lver talks of 'unmaking' people. **Cough Cough Conversion Vibes Cough**.)

Funny aside. When I first saw Mariana (coupled with how Flint responded to her - He looked really grief-stricken and a little shocked? and tried), I legitimately thought she might be a ghost of someone from his past. My friend, who I was sharing my watch-through with, laughed uncontrollably. I didn't understand why... Until she actually became a ghost that haunted him.

I adore FlintHamiltons. I would say the three are my OTP of the series... but... I also really like Flane. I didn't like Vane at first but he really grew on me. I jokingly started shipping it when Vane said he was going to save Flint. I started shipping it a little more earnestly as he did as he said he would. But when Vane saved Flint from Teach it was like falling down the stairs into the ship. I was hopelessly, irrevocably lost to Flane. FlintHamiltons and Flane are near equal in my heart. So FlaneHamiltons are my really OTP because why not both?

I really loved how Teach was handled? Normally when Blackbeard is in a show I've just been disappointed. Mostly he's just a two-dimensional villain who wants ultimate power. Very boring. The sigh of relief I gave in episode one when Blackbeard was just one of Noonan's girls. I was so relieved. Then he was introduced in season 3 and I was admittedly disappointed. I loved pirates as a kid. So I recognized the name Teach. I perked up when I heard his name, because I was like "Hey, I know that name! I know Teach!!!" only seconds later to go, oh crap, it's Teach. They brought in Blackbeard. Great. I was happily surprised with how they portrayed him. That my expectations were proven very wrong. I love him. That moment with Vane in Season 3 Episode 3 where Teach offers Vane a choice, not an ultimatum hit me in the heart. The way he asks Vane to be his son/legacy. Doesn't claim. Asks! Offers him the choice. I've never seen that in a show. And it got to me. I felt horrible for Teach when Vane sided with Flint on the beach. And sad that it was in part because Teach slipped up and created an ultimatum for Vane. Him or Flint. And Vane picked Flint.

(I shall stop talking about Black Sails... for now. That show has taken up residence in my soul, I swear.)

I've reignited my love of Star Wars (though I'm not a fan of the direction Disney has taken things.), though my ships have changed slightly (Obi-Wan is still my favourite). Ob!k!n is very much a NOPE! Anak!n too, kind of... sorry (I can't get past a lot of his choices. or political views, especially with how real-world stuff has gone). Still adore the Jedi, love my soft found family of space empath wizards.

I finally watched Bridgerton. I loved it. Lady Danbury is the BEST! Her godson is a close second. But nobody is as amazing as Lady Danbury.

I watched "Some Like It Hot" (Didn't like Sugar/Joseph's relationship. But ngl, Osgood/Daphne was kind of sweet? Especially when Daph started to really like him.) and the Clue movie from the 80s (I think what Mr Green said he was going to do when he gets home was a cover-up to hide the truth of his identity from his employers. I've read a fic where Boddy was also undercover and they are partners... and I'm not letting that go. The whole "Sit" moment is really funny now with that added fantext.)

as fun as the eloping jokes are, i want to be serious for a mo to say that the friendships i've made online have been a consistent source of joy, strength, and love for me - whether or not they develop into something romantic/queerplatonic/whatever or stay "just" friends.

i don't have many friends i see in person often at this stage in life (moving to a new state while working a remote job does that to you) but i'm still auntie to the kids of a friend i made online as an 18yo. there are longtime tumblr mutuals i've hung out with in person many times over the years, or just met in person for the first time recently. moots who i have little to no chance of ever meeting in person but we talk on the phone a few times a week; friends i play dnd with, have movie nights with, who hang out to write and make art together. making these connections has become easier, ime, as discord has risen in popularity and fandom usage - many of my closest friends today i met and/or deepened a connection with in a fandom discord server - but there are all sorts of ways to spend time together and build community enabled by this modern miracle we're using to talk right now!

be careful with labeling yourself as something fixed and closing doors prematurely that could bring so much joy into your life if you're able to muster up courage just long enough to step through them. remember that being a person means we are constantly changing & becoming. i'm not at all the same person i was five years ago. i'm not even that close to the same person i was one year ago! the more i open myself to love & connection - yes, even with the risk of rejection and pain - the bigger and more joyful my life becomes.

there is no correct or "proper" way to make or be a friend. personally i take the approach of deciding i like someone and just start sending them messages until either a) one day we're friends or b) they don't show interest in conversation/things naturally peter out - this is fine, none of us will be everyone's cup of tea and being universally palatable would require grinding the most vibrant parts of yourself down. this is not the goal to strive for. usually i get outcome a, because it's something i've practiced a lot and i've gotten better at gauging things, but not always - and that's okay! making and maintaining relationships that serve both parties can be a delicate dance sometimes, but i think nothing in life is more worth trying.

hello!! i just recently discovered your writing and i am really, really enjoying reading through it! ❤️ i have oodles of questions, but mostly i'm curious about: do you have unpublished/unwritten stories that you've been dying to talk/vent about? and what kinds of media do you take the most inspiration from?

Oooh I have so many things I wanna talk about!!

Firstly, I've been leaving tags and I have an excerpt that I've shared for my latest project Blood and Bourbon (working title) about the relationship between our MC Elliot who's a vampire, and his love interest Mathias, an immortal. Originally it was meant to be a oneshot, but 6k words turned into 10k, and then turned into almost 14k, and that's when I had a talk with my brain like, "Okay!! New project, you win!" Except now, when I try to dig for a plot within the chopped up remains of this oneshot, I look to my characters and they just. Shrug. I have the threads of a conflict in the works, but that's about it? The oneshot had a very specific, very contained, A-to-B storyline that was character specific, so now, trying to stretch out towards external motivations has been. Work. I don't have any plans to post it soon, maybe early 2024? I want to write a good buffer for once so we don't go another *checks notes* ugh, six months without a serial update. I also made a promise that I won't start any new serials without finishing at least one current one, so I'm going to finish up Into the Woods before anything else.

Next WIP has been in the background for nearly six months now, and it's the DND-based romantasy with mine and my roommate's characters. My temp title is Of Course, Darling but I'm not sold on it. It doesn't roll off the tongue. This is one I've been chipping away at whenever I have the free time, and...it's a beast. I love worldbuilding, I really do, but starting from the ground up (to avoid copyright issues with WotC as I plan to sell this) is very time-consuming and energy-draining, but I'm so excited for it. This is also an m/m novel between Nyx, a shapeshifter with a bounty on his head and a dead sister to avenge, and Kaivus, a tiefling* who joins Nyx to help, but his services have never come free, and he's strangely without his magic. It's an annoyance-to-lovers with a dash of romantic history, magic lessons, and found family as they pick up more adventurers their journey. I really like this one, I'm so excited to have this one going because it hits all the romantasy buttons that I personally haven't found in mldern novels.

*in name only, I've been calling them Fiends, but that still feels too close? I don't want to just call them demons

As far as inspiration, I adore the way tumblr user/not-poignant characterizes and slow burns and pretty much everything skfjsj. Their smut and BDSM is top tier as well. Heavy trigger warning for their content, though, it gets intense!

My next biggest inspiration is probably movies in general, horror in specific. I love the stories that can be told across the board and I love the different ways they can be told, even by the same person! Horror, for me, is a big mash of every movie that could be considered such. I love Blumhouse and A24 alike, I find joy both in the splattergore of the Saw series (it's a personal favorite tbh) and the slow psychological burn of Midsommar. But I love the different ways the genre as a whole can address the same issue in different ways. I like the catharsis that comes with a good, well thought out story.

I also used to watch a lot of youtube channels like Jenny Nicholson, Lidndsay Ellis, Folding Ideas, Nerdwriter1, LftS, basically any kind of academic-leaning analysis of media, particularly visual media and movies in specific. I used to consume how different movies did things effectively/not so much, and how to make it better, I even wanted to write my own story boards for an animatic at one point! I think a lot of that taught me to analyze media a little more critically and also in how I structure stories.

There's probably dozens more little things I'm missing, books I've read I want to emulate, other writers that haven't popped up in my mind, there's probably hundreds.
