Day three for the @dragonaday-fr challenge! Serva is certainly warm and fluffy, just don't ask who's turning up the heat.
#flight rising#dragonaday2023#frfanart#flightrising#fr pearlcatcher#my art#Serva is a minor villain responsible for the relocation of multiple dragon's into my clan and the charred ruins of two cities#I didn’t like her very narrow head the first time I drew her but its definitely grown on me#her and her brother are meant to be very well loved and easily welcomed into new clans#hell he wanders into the very fires he assisted with to talk to the survivors#they have soft and gentle appearances and honestly are very calm and kind#unfortunately one of them is incredibly malicious#Serva is very intelligent and knows rumors spread quickly when strangers enter new territory#they know one of the siblings is blind#she clawed at her eyes until they were visibly marked#to mistake her for her brother#a blind dragon does not stumble does not falter#but a seeing dragon playing pretend trips and stumbles and plays them all for the fools they are#anyway I've drawn Galileo before#hehehe#I love the natural patterning#it turned out so good#i have too many fluffy dragons#but I thought this was a funny misinterpretation of warm and fluffy#her and her brother have way more hair than normal anyway#it's a mutation

I have three thoughts that pop up every time I see a dusthide. Not all of them each time, but at least one
Most common thought: he have no ears 😭
Second most common: armadillo (armadillos have ears though, so I guess more pangolin? But the way they are segmented… the pangolin thing reminds me of their claws more though. Hmm, overthinks what species of real animals one can compare them to)
And the final one: so, remember those toys from the 2000s that you put on a magnet and they went from a ball to a little guy?
Update, I have gotten sleep and am now confused about why I was so sad every time I saw that they had no ears
#emma posts#flight rising#every. single. time. my brain says that first one#I cannot look at them without thinking about their no ear smooth head#which is kinda funny because many dragons have no ears#but they have other stuff and aren’t so smooth#will my brain shut UP about the ear thing?#I hope it does#I didn’t get much sleep and my brain keeps getting irrationally sad about no ears#I HAVE NO LOGICAL REASON TO FEEL SAD ABOUT THIS#i just had a terrible night and now my emotions are wacky#rational mind: looking at the design. sleep deprived irrational mind: smooth head#I’m trying to think of dragons who have visible ears and I’ve thought of three#imperials spirals and veilspun#but most dragons have spines or feathers#I forgot pearlcatchers.#I also forgot obelisk. this is going to repeat itself isn’t it#they call me the forgetter because I#I actually do have memory problems irl#I forgot gaoler. but in my defense I don’t actually have any of those in my lair so I will use that excuse#snappers are a bit of a conundrum because their ear holes are visible but they have no real external ear structure#I remembered correctly! tundra have external ears! I just only have one tundra rn so I was second guessing before I checked

I saw that you have a Flight Rising account! What kind of FR breeds do you think Vasco and Machete would be?
I can see machete being a skydancer or a really scrawny pearlcatcher
I think I was asked this once before, and people were strongly in favor of skydancer for Machete. I could also imagine him as a spiral though. Vasco is kind of tricky because none of the breeds have his rounded curves in my eyes, but nocturnes could work.
These are the "realistic" designs I made for them back then:
But if you wanted to go for a more colorful/conceptual/vibes route, you might get something along these lines or so?

cool lore implication that might be coming from everlux dragons existing is their role: archivists. people wanting emperor hunters in direct response to emperors existing weren't right, but they weren't far off. the encyclopedia entry could be guiding us towards this understanding that they are a means of defense in a different way until the emperors could be understood and dealt with.
we know imperials are the first dragons lightweaver made, so everlux must come between them and pearlcatchers. it's possible that they were created specifically to save as much knowledge as possible before emperors potentially destroyed ages of recorded study.
they're protecting light's entire life work - the remaining memory of generations of lifespans dedicated to the research of the world - so when luminax started to get too close to their homes, their natural instinct wasn't just to save themselves but also the recorded knowledge of their flight's entire purpose.
i'm tired, though. iunno.

Oh!! I have a whole clan im working on thats a little fucked up and weird like that
The residents of Gloaming grove are all some form of supernatural/mythical entity outside of being a dragon.
Mardava here is a hag who is a sort of weaver of fate. She reccords the happenings of every resident everyday in their own book in her library. Everyone in town knows its best to stay on her good side. You dont want your book to become a short read. You can bargain with her to make your story longer, but what are you willing to exchange for a few years more? Is it truly worth it?
Chryseis is one of the best guards for the town. She’s some sort swamp monster according to others in town. Truly no one really knows exactly what she is. They just know she stalks the waters beneath the boardwalks of gloaming grove and intruders who have the misfortune of invoking her ire have fled screaming with the rantings of madmen. She also likes making wooden carvings out of driftwood. She’s given several to others in the community as a token of friendship.
This handsome fellow is still a little underway. His current name on site is Yaakovit but im searching for something to better fit the vibe. He’s the clan’s leader who sees to the improvement and approval of just about anything and everything. More housing for weary travellers finding their way here? Of course! More space for permanent residence? Why wouldnt we have such a thing? A disagreement between two clanmates? He’ll go and sort it out himself. Strange how he has to be invited in anywhere but most chalk it up to a specific brand of politeness he has. Has anyone ever seen him eat? Dont be silly he only eats in the privacy of his own home to not impose on others! How come he’s never around during the day? He’s a busy man who’s for sure tending to everything he needs to do and is in no way a vampire what are you talking about.
Hello I am doing not great. Can people show me their favorite dragons who are just a little fucked up and weird. Eldritch terrors. ghosts. evil clowns. you know the vibe. The kind of stuff the SCP foundation or Umbrella Corp would look at and be like "well that's a bit much isn't it"
please thank you love you bye <3
#these are the more developed of the bunch outside of Cartouche who’s been in my lair for years now#the plan with the whole lair is to have it be written in 2nd person#and the reader takes charge of Tycho#who is a normal regular everyday pearlcatcher who is searching for his long lost sister#who disappeared when he was small#and then gets trapped in this clan#your goal is to find clues and get the fuck out before anyone in this clan decides you’re not welcome anymore#hope your day gets better!!!!

How do you feel about the Everluxes?
Well, I'm actually someone who generally dislikes Ancients. I usually find that they're kind of a "waste" of an otherwise interesting breed concept, and the fact they can't wear apparel means I find them difficult to work with even when the colors are all aligned. They're usually just "discount moderns," to me.
So Everluxes are everything I want, actually!
They're something that could never exist as a modern breed because they break the 4-legs 2-wings mold, they're SUPER unique in terms of their grublike proportions and big chunky upper legs, and they released with a ton of amazing line-breaking genes that are fun to play with. This is exactly what I feel like Ancients have been missing since their release!
I actually strongly disagree that these guys are "unfitting" in the Light Flight-- I think everyone who's saying that just doesn't like that Light has a fat dragon. I'm losing patience with the way they'll say, "It's not because they're fat, it's because they're inelegant, ungraceful, gross, tubular, long, round, etc" and just expect people to not realize those are being used as alternate words for "fat." The only person they're fooling is themselves.
They have a lot in common with the other breeds, actually. The wings resemble the Imperial's. The rhino-like horn reminds me of the pearlcatchers. They have the same prehensile "feeler" whiskers. Even the way that they're really long makes me think of a sort of "beta" imperial.
I have a headcanon that the Lightweaver made Everluxes and was suuuuper proud of them, her little "bookwyrms..." and then her bully of a sister, Shadowbinder, got REALLY mean about them. Took jabs at every chance, and ultimately made Veilspuns as "LOOK, IT'S YOURS BUT BETTER LOL. MAYBE YOU COULD LEARN SOMETHING. YOU LOVE DOING THAT, DON'T YOU?"
Long hair, sleek features, strong and tricky... Lightweaver loved her design, but when she looked at what her sister could do, she felt ashamed. She'd just wanted people to help her archive and preserve knowledge, but now that she was being pressured to compare her creations to someone else's, suddenly the joy was gone.
And, of course, FlightRising lore enjoyers know what comes next.
Spurred on by that fierce feeling of inadequacy, her next set of creations would be larger, more beautiful, more powerful than anything that had ever come before. She forced every tear, every sob, every moment of anguish she'd ever felt into her next creation. No dragon that walked the soil of Sornieth would be able to hold a candle to the light of the masterpiece within her claws.
Imperials came after the Everlux-- and Emperors in their wake. The Lightweaver swore to never create a breed out of anguish ever again.
#Flight Rising#Flightrising#Bone Babble#Not Warriorcats#Everlux#Sorry everyone else incredibly brief FR detour lmao I like them. I like the grub dragons#this is my own BB!Brainrot too but I can't get over the idea that if Spotty played FR she would love them#she would have so many everluxes#she'd passively enjoy aethers and then when everluxes came out she'd be like 'FRIENDSHIP ENDED WITH FLUFFY MOTH'#''NOW THE WORM IS MY BEST FRIEND''

What are some of your favorite skins you've made?
I thought about the answer to this question for a very long time. I want to tell you a story about a skin that broke the site.
(I think this has been fixed now, which is the only reason I'm posting about it.)
Up until around March of this year, skin names weren't sanitized. I wasn't aware of this and continued to be unaware of this until the day I asked for my Valentine's pearlcatcher skins (named <3 and </3 respectively) to be renamed. Special characters often break when you submit them through the queue, so you have to go and ask the mods in the skroblems thread to fix apostophes for you so they display properly. I went and asked them to fix my pearlcatcher skin's names for me, since they weren't displaying correctly either. This lead, by accident, to the most interesting way I've gotten the site to break in a while.
My friend noticed first when they got a subscribed notification to my skin shop thread. They realized there were two pages that were completely gone.
Then they realized that the front page didn't look right either. My catalogue posts had completely vanished. Only to find... when you hovered over the thumbnail of the </3 skin's icon, my posts had hopped into the item description.
We experimented a little more before realizing this thing was... very, very powerful! You could put the skin into a den tab description, and it would put every single dragon in that tab into the space of the description box. You could break your userpage for ANYBODY on site. Your entire dragon could get swallowed up if you put it into their bio. And because the skin deleted the edit button, you couldn't get it back out.
Little did I know, the </ part of the skin name - when posted using [skin=skinid] or [item=skin: </3] - would act as an HTML tag anywhere it was posted, and completely mess up how the site displayed! I compiled everything I found and sent it into the bug forums and the contact team box for review. The thread got deleted almost immediately, confirming what I suspected: skin names aren't sanitized, and this could very easily be exploited with malicious intentions or SQL injects.
Luckily, they fixed it pretty quickly! I hope the way the site handles skin names has been updated now too. This sort of thing wouldn't have happened even if I had named the skin </3 or, god forbid, dropTable(); in the first place. I do think it was because I had the mods go in and edit the skin name that allowed the unclosed </ to display in the skin's item icon and then break the site.
So that's the story of one of my favorite skins I've made! <3 and </3 are now LOVE and LOVE(LESS) respectively. The designs themselves didn't sell too well, but for a glorious 16 hours, they contained all the power of little nuclear bombs detonating on various HTML-dependent sitepages.
#flight rising#skins and accents#flightrising#my stuff#asks#if any staff see this and need me to take it down because it contains information about a former site exploit... lmk

a few finished projects that I've been vibing with a lot! and their bonus lore rambles under the cut to keep things a little more trim ; w;
» the wives [ Padparadscha | Bunanuhnanuh ]
antique jaguar ᛜ ginger breakup ᛜ terracotta koi bronze piebald ᛜ white basic ᛜ terracotta koi
» the twins [ Naberius | custard ]
stone piebald ᛜ white basic ᛜ spruce koi tarnish pharaoh ᛜ white basic ᛜ brown basic
» acolyte goblin ambassador [ moss ]
white basic ᛜ obsidian paint ᛜ hickory koi
I swear I'm normal about naming dragons-- I'll have serious names alongside dumb meme ones and treat them equally as seriously as characters. I swear, it makes sense in my lair. I promise.
» the wives [ Padparadscha | Bunanuhnanuh ]
Pad and Bun are wives, with Bun being the elegant airhead and Pad being the gruff behemoth. Pad is near twice Bun's size and tends to be more protective/defensive than the wildclaw is. Her pearl tends to stay with Bun when not in her pearl pouch, who keeps it in one of her silk scarves padded with dry moss and lavender sprigs.
The two of them are residing in the Bazaar, currently travelling between there and the Oasis to finalise some trade agreements before the encampments decide to make proper paths between them. While Bun is more than happy to keep the conversation for the two of them, Pad is just.... always listening. The pearlcatcher beast somehow always seems to know what is going on and can quickly get the answer to the most obscure questions if given enough time to think. This includes knowledge from any of their other outposts, somehow able to just.... know. ( Behind the scenes, she's actually a fraction of a hydra, and despite them being split, they are still able to communicate telepathically with each other, resulting in easy relay of information between allied outposts nearly instantly but the only one who controls/knows of this is Quail. )
Bun used to be part of the Roost outpost, which is why her namesake is so strange compared to the desert-dwellers. She's kept her name, although able to change it any time given how Roost customs are, and finds some joy in how hers and Pad's mirror each other in length. Those close to her may call her Bun or Bana, although Pad tends to call her Sprig, Sweetbean, and other soft little nicknames. When relaxing, Pad often gnaws on Bun's horns when cuddling to keep her tusks in check, something Bun doesn't mind as her horns constantly grow regardless.
» the twins [ Naberius | custard ]
The youngest of the Acolytes ( a subterranean clan that only emerges for three weeks a year and spends the rest of the year worshiping the Solstice trio I / II / III and tunnelling. More Info on them is heeeeeere! ) They have the same affliction post-hatchling that ogi and his younger sibling do, where they just haven't progressed further physically or mentally. They have a lot of inherent volatile magics because of what they are, but they can't always act on it in the way they want due to whatever is stunting them. This leaves the two a little hard to predict, scrapping as often as they'd play, all while leaving arcs of fulgurite along the tunnels from their warring elements.
They are often underfoot, eager to help tunnelling efforts and harvesting lichen, but are easy to tire out and will just nap wherever they run out of energy. It's not uncommon to find both of them blocking a tunnel because they need a quick powernap. Good luck moving them.
Naberius and custard's energy came from an old elemental, also named Naberius, who decayed on the Acolyte border after leaving the bounds of the Oasis. The two spawned from his fall and have many of his powers, but with the stunt and divide between them, it is just a grain of what it used to be. Sezha knew what they grew from, and decided to keep Naberius' name for one as a way to honour his fall, while casket was allowed to name the other, resulting in the mock-roost name: custard.
» acolyte goblin ambassador [ moss ]
Moss is the 'ambassador' for the Acolytes when they're out of the ground, or when dealing with people who come to 'trade' ( drop gifts and supplies, they don't actually want anything from the Acolytes in exchange and are just encouraged to do so by Quail and repaid for it in other ways ) at the outposts' entrance during their submerged seasons. She loves the idea of bartering and making a trade, only really knowing how trade works from her few visits to the Oasis grounds and seeing the elementals make pacts.
When trading, she wears The Hat. The hat is a combination of a few hats she's traded for over the years, worn around the edges and lovingly cared for. She often puts feathers, gemstones, or dried flowers tucked into the brim for flair, and will outright refuse to accept offers from other outposts if she can't get her claws on her hat at that time. All business MUST be done with the hat.
When not being Very Important, she spends most of her time tunnelling and setting up the lighting system in the deeper section of the lair. The Acolytes currently use a lighting method that leeches off the ley lines beneath them, giving them an easy method to track the health of the flow of magic and know when their worship is required. These free-floating orbs can be placed at any area of the lair as long as they're still connected to the earth, and so often will be rooted to the walls with vining plants from handsome's farm.

Day seven of the @dragonaday-fr challenge! With the disposition of a feral horse and the tenacity of one, Idiom is quick to cause arduous situations and just as quick to escape them. He leaves these problems for any others present to solve, or a particularly unlucky stranger to stumble upon later.
