Was talking to my twin @wafflesrisa about Charlos during Imola FP1 earlier and I decided to rank the most insane Charlos moments in order - ranked purely on moments that show just how much they're friends, not just teammates

This is just my own preference and it'll be different for everyone, but here a (non-exhaustive) list:

1. Bahrain 2024 crochet chili

"I want to gift this to you. From my fan to me, to you. So you will remember me for the rest of your life." "A chili!!" "For our post Teammate Era." "Ay we are only starting the season!" Carlos: "You will forget [the chili] there." Charles, softly: "No I won't." Also feat. nearly crying in the car afterwards

2. Miami 2024 Water flick

Carlos doesn't even look at the glass in the couple seconds before he flicks the water at Charles. He's looking at Charles and smiling. Charles gets a little overwhelmed with the affection and gets shy (bonus Ferrari team member being us looking at them)

3. Canada cotton ball lean

The cutest moment in this isn't Carlos telling Charles to admit that Carlos won. It's them both Zendaya laughing at each other when Charles gets caught cheating and Charles having this moment looking at the back of Carlos' head where he gets so overwhelmed with affection he collapses his whole weight into Carlos' side. Their caps bonk. It is cute.

4. Zandvoort 2022 headphone exchange -

The first one especially gets me because it's a solid 5 seconds of Charles looking at Carlos, going FRIEND! MY FRIEND! and going *air kiss*

Reasons I will not Accept Umbrella Academy Season 4 as Canon (major spoilers)

I wanna preface this with: This is just my personal opinion, I am not telling anyone how they should or shouldn't feel. If you liked season 4, that is wonderful for you, I wish I could say the same

These two. I do not like their little romantic side plot at all for a multitude of reasons

I know Five's consciousness is like 68, I know he's technically an old man, but his body is around 19 years old, and Lila knew him while his body was still 13 so it just feels weird

I cannot imagine being in my 30s, married with children and being in love with someone who looks like they're 19, and yes, I know 7 years alone will do numbers on someone's mind, but still

throughout their whole little love montage, I was just begging, "Please let this just be a wholesome friend thing, please let this just be a cute, close sibling like dynamic- FUCK ME, THEYRE KISSING!?"

Also Five wasn't even good to her, he lied about the book at first and just made the decision for her that she'd stay with him in that timeline forever. And yes I know he eventually told her, but even after that he kept trying to convince her to just abandon her husband, children, and family because "You're happy here." Diego and Lila have their own issues, sure, but he's still the much better option and wouldn't have tried to trap her like that.

Season 4 Five just feels.. off, he feels wrong. Bring back his little shorts and old man vests when he was in 'retirement.' Bring back the Five that went on a road trip with Klaus because he wanted to see things like the world's biggest ball of yarn or whatever it was, I don't like this Five who tries to trap a married mother in an alternate dimension with him

These characters we got so attached to, these plots that we got so invested in, you can't just tell me, "Also they technically never happened because they were never born," what the hell??

So you know what?? No. I don't accept s4 as real. Just like the cleanse, it never happened. As far as I'm concerned, the story ended at s3, everyone is alive and well, they don't have their powers, and they all went their separate ways.

This is why streaming is dying.

I'm Canadian, and I used to watch Star Trek on Crave. Crave saved us for awhile from the fracturing of the streaming landscape because it stayed as an umbrella service for quite some time. I used to get Star Trek, HBO, WB shows, Starz, Sony stuff...basically Hulu + HBO + Paramount. That was actually worth it because for the same monthy fee I could get House of the Dragon, Star Trek and more.

But that wasn't going to last forever. When Paramount+ launched in Canada, Star Trek got taken off Crave. I'm a huge Star Trek fan but even I couldn't justify a FIFTH streaming service just for Trek.

So I waited until Discovery was finished. And then I binged it and season 4 of Lower Decks. And then I cancelled. I won't get it again until S3 of Strange New Worlds and Season 4 of Lower Decks are finished, then I'll binge and cancel again.

There is literally nothing else on P+ I want to watch. I looked, because if there was something I'd cancel Netflix for a bit. But it's all movies I've seen and don't want to rewatch, shows I already have access to on other streamers, or things I have no interest in.

When the networks were working together to put lots of tasty treats under one streamer, it was absolutely worth it. I'd pay $20 a month for Crave if HBO kept making good shows (instead of cancelling them, RIP Our Flag Means Death) and if P+ had lots of Trek (and...didn't keep cancelling those shows like they did Lower Decks and Discovery.) Between that and Trek that would mean I always had a show releasing on the platform that I wanted to watch.

As long as there isn't a steady diet of things that appeal to me, I WILL keep subscribing, binging, and cancelling. Churn is the reason these networks aren't profitable. But there is literally no incentive for me to NOT do that when the things I want to watch are scattered across 5-6 different streamers, each charging $15+ a month.

In trying to get their slice of the pie, the networks have guaranteed there isn't enough food on their buffet to keep people coming back for more.

It creates a vicious cycle. This fracturing means there's not enough budget to support the flagship shows/franchises. Then, they get cancelled and/or budget reduced. So they take away or vastly reduce the thing I want to watch the most.

PLUS none of the networks are nurturing the cult hits/franchises of the future. Shows that have the potential to be the reason I subscribe are being cut off at the knees after virtually no promotion.

I watch every new show like Dead Boy Detectives knowing there is a very high likelihood that this will be the only season I'll get to watch. So much potential is left on the table. If there were four or more shows like Dead Boy Detectives and Kaos getting ongoing commitments from Netflix I wouldn't even consider cancelling my subscription. Instead, I know that any show that isn't an immediate cultural moment is probably getting the axe, or getting two seasons, max. Especially if it's SF&F. Especially if it's queer.

We live in the world where even the critically-acclaimed and franchise-based House of the Dragon is getting truncated episode runs and reduced support.

Regardless of how you feel about how Game of Thrones ended, that franchise is a cultural juggernaut. House of the Dragon is legitimately good and packed with talent. The rough patches of Season 2 can be easily traced back to reduced budgets/cut episode run at the last minute that forced the production team to scramble and adapt.

Honestly. Is there anyone actually committing to their series other than FX, AMC, and Amazon with Rings of Power? Although RoP can also be considered a sunk cost fallacy since Amazon invested a SHIT TON into the IP and the series, so they need it to work. They also have a wobbly track record supporting other shows. (I will never forgive them for cancelling A Leage of Their Own.)

FX and AMC are the only networks that feel like they're actually supporting their content. And what do you get for that? Shogun, one of the best shows in recent memory. The show absolutely swept awards season (and rightfully so) and is now setting itself up to be a tentpole show in the mold of such classics of the historical fiction genre like Deadwood, The Tudors, and Rome.

Interview With the Vampire, is an AMC show which has a very active and passionate fandom eager for more of it and Anne Rice's Immortal Universe. This is a rare example of a new franchise (albeit based on an existing, well-know IP) is really finding its feet and its audience. The audience for it is not of the size of something like House of the Dragon, but AMC is feeding the audience it does have unapologetically, with queer camp horror full of messy, toxic relationships.

Then there's What We Do in the Shadows, which seems to be ending on its own terms this year. FX is a Disney subsidary which somehow manages to commit to the series it creates, which proves it can still be done.

I do hope that FX and AMC continues to support their weird and wonderful shows, and I hope they keep getting rewarded for it with high ratings and awards so that the rest of the networks will smarten up.

If we hadn't just come out of a golden age of streaming where every network was producing excellent TV, all of this heavy cancellation and fragmentation wouldn't be quite so devastating.

Entertainment seems like it's constantly in a feast or famine churn. Right now, we're careening toward famine, which is full of one-season shows, overextended franchises, flagship shows being cut/restrained and a whole lot of cheap dreck.

It's the reality TV heyday all over again and I hate it.

including Drew as a background gag would honestly be a brilliant idea. like, Jake runs off somewhere, and in the background, there's just Drew holding up a piece of paper that says "???". i have no clue where in Canada Drew and Tom/Jake/Miriam live-- the country is quite large, so it could be an equivalent distance to Ashley living in Texas and Ellie/Tess living in New York-- but given that Ellie will be in the series, someone is travelling somewhere! so it's definitely possible.

i'm pretty neutral on the TomJake series, mostly because i don't know what it's going to be about. in a best case scenario, it's a delayed wrap-up to All Stars, further exploring some of the plot threads that weren't fully developed leading up to and after Riya's win. in a worst case scenario, it's a disjointed collection of mildly confusing fanservice, a la "Derek and Trevor accidentally kiss in the shower." (i actually liked that episode as a whole, but man was that moment in particular cringe.) i'm definitely going to watch it just so that i know what's up, but i do feel like they probably could have better used this time elsewhere (more staff stories, official season epilogue, start s4 faster).

but, Sapphire, if they did an Ashley, Drew, or Alec spinoff, how would they lure people in by putting gay people in the thumbnail??? (/s) mostly kidding, but i'm sure it is true that they were willing to bank on a TomJake series because they knew that those popular characters would get the clicks. if we got another spinoff, it'd probably be jaiden-centric, lmao.

of course, Ashley and especially Alec are also pretty popular, so it's not outside of the realm of possibility! an Alec series would definitely good, to clarify his relationship with Fiore, learn a bit more about his family, and perhaps touch on what Riya's up to after the show. an Ashley show i fear would lack any conflict (because she slays at life so hard), but maybe we could learn a bit about her family too.

They would make a neat duo ngl. If Dan ever made it to All-Stars that is. 😅 I actually remember one Ally greeting where she said she thought Dan was a pretty cool/nice guy and how unfair it was the way Gabby cheated him in eliminations, or something along those lines. I can try to find it later.

Hm. Interesting chart. The one I agree most with is that I definitely would've liked to see an interaction between Tess and Alec. Those two do have quite a few things in common (quiet, reserved/introverted, level headed, fairly intelligent, logical, lone wolves who like to read, etc.) so I'm sure they would've clicked well with each other. Eh, who knows? Maybe there was some interaction at the motel off camera. Though that is mostly just wishful thinking, since I highly doubt either of them would ever see a reason to talk to the other with how little they know about each other, being from separate seasons and all.

yeah, and Alec was in the Motel for a pretty short amount of time (2 episodes, maybe like 5 days). canonically, he probably spent a lot of that time talking to Fiore and then Connor. Perhaps Ellie and Grett as well.

god knows Alec could use a therapist friend, though. maybe if people started following each other online, they could wind up chatting with each other then! or, i'm sure Alec would read Lake's book someday, so he could at least see her illustrations then.

The results of the vote are in. The bad outcome happened. Of the people who voted, over half of them voted for the candidate who wants to exterminate LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, non-Christians, and more. They voted for the candidate who wants to see women and brown-skinned people go back to being considered "property". The voted for the candidate who wants to make this letter to you be considered "pornography", and thus outlawed, simply on the basis that I made mention of LGBTQ+ people such as myself.

I don't know what to do. I don't know how to prevent the loss of life that I know will occur. Already, lots of LGBTQ+ folks are calling suicide hotlines, and it's because we all know that there's a decent chance that pretty soon, our existence is going to be outlawed altogether. There's also a non-zero chance that access to abortion will be outlawed everywhere in my country altogether - it's already illegal in some places, even for cases like rape, incest, or if carrying the pregnancy to term would kill the mother. It's absolutely senseless.

I am sterilized via tubal ligation. I chose this because I don't want to bring a child into a burning, dying world. In the place where I had it done, it's a procedure in which one's fallopian tubes get tight bands wrapped around them. The tight band cuts off the blood flow to the tube, thus killing it so that eggs can't get from the ovary to the uterus. That place is called Canada. And... I don't know if they'll take us. But the odds of them taking us are not zero, since we all count as skilled workers. We have to try.

...The process of immigrating is very convoluted, though. I've been having difficulty trying to sift through the information and ascertain in which order I'm supposed to do the steps in. It seems very unclear.

...Or maybe it's not unclear, and I am just panicking. M is going to get a new passport; he has an appointment to get that taken care of tomorrow.

I also got a terabyte drive in which to put all the letters I've already written to you; I suspect in the coming months, some of my letters to you will be considered "pornography" and censored, due to the fact that I mention LGBTQ+ and polyamory stuff in them. I don't want the things I've written to you to disappear, so... I'll put them where I can't lose them.

...I've already done as much about immigration and backing up my work as I could today. So then I started cooking, because... I didn't know what else to do.

I started by putting potatoes on a baking sheet covered in parchment paper:

From here, I got out all my seasonings that I wanted...

...And with these, I seasoned the lamb!!!!

Then, you put a tinfoil tent over it!!! Which... I guess I somehow managed to neglect to take a picture of. But I'll do ya one better and show you a page that has a little video of how to make one!

From here, I stuck it in the oven at 325 degrees F (or 162.8 degrees C) for around 4 and a half hours. The idea was to steam the lamb leg in its own juices along with the potatoes until it's tender enough to be pulled off the bone with a fork!

In the meantime, I worked on the pumpkin soup. First, I sliced up an onion and put it in my handy-dandy veggie chopper!!!

I then chopped them up a little to reduce the space they take up a little. And I added 4 garlic cloves, after cutting them in half...

(...I know, I know – only 4? Who am I, and what have I done with myself??? Hahaha...)

From here, you turn them into a puree...

...And then you fry it in a pan with butter! It'll look like this at first...

...But then, after a while, it'll look like this; make sure you cook it on a medium-low heat and stir it continually so it doesn't burn!!

To this, I added that pumpkin puree we made earlier in the week, and also a jar and a half of my famous (it's not really famous, haha!) bone broth:

Do you remember the last time I made pumpkin soup for you? I made that one into more of a savory concoction, I think. This time, I wanted to try for something sweeter – something that tastes almost like pumpkin pie. So... I added some cream...

...And then I added these things!!!

...I basically kept adding and rebalancing these things until I tasted the soup and thought, “yes – this is pretty much pumpkin pie now.”

...It was absolutely fucking DELICIOUS.

But I had to set it aside; the lamb wasn't nearly done. I floundered around for a long time. And then M surprised me by getting a bag of cookies!!! Behold!!!

In my area, you will not find better packaged chocolate chip cookies ANYWHERE. They are crispy on the outside, and soft and gooey on the inside. They're not too sweet, and the dough itself is good even without the chocolate chips.

Just look how pliable it is!!!

...Isn't t beautiful...??? And lemme tell ya, they taste just as good as they look!!! I... probably ate far too many of these today, haha... It's a wonder my guts didn't feel icky afterwards...

I sauteed some mixed mushrooms. I like to combine shiitake with maitake and portobello. Lion's mane is a wonderful and flavorful choice, too, but... last time I went to the grocery to look for them, the ones that were available were kinda... brown and goopy-looking (blecch...), so I didn't get any.

The lamb was done by the time these finished sauteeing:

Two of the other things I found frustrating about season 4 of TUA are not something I've really seen anyone talking about.

First, that the characters are talking like themselves, but they're not acting like themselves.

It's hard to explain, but the closest comparison I can think of is someone practicing at impersonation of someone, but not saying something that made any sense for that person to say (not even comedically - like in makes no sense in relation to them at all).

Part of making a character sound like themselves is the actor, part the writer. To break it cleanly (though it's never actually this clean a split): The actor's job is tone and delivery. The writer's is manner of speaking/rhythm of how they talk and context/personal choice for choosing those words.

For example in 4x4, when Lorretta says to Klaus that her ex husband preferred (the nickname) Dick, Klaus responds laughing, "Don't we all?"

That is absolutely a Klaus line. The writers have really got his manner of speaking down. BUT - in the context of this scene, that isn't a good fit. Klaus is about to use his powers and that's a trauma to our knowledge he hasn't gotten over. He should be more upset, not as laid back as we see here.

So to me, watching season 4 felt a little like reading an AU fanfic where the author got the voices right, but forgot to explain or flesh out the AU. A good AU explains where canon diverged and how things were impacted by those changes. Or if it's a full overhaul, like the classic coffeeshop AU, it lays out the land of our characters altered backstories.

And that brings me to my other issue with season 4: The utter absence of flashbacks.

I really don't know what the writers were thinking not having any flashbacks this season. Season 3 didn't really need more than a couple of them to fill in some gaps because season 2 happened minutes before season. But season 1 and 2 absolutely needed them. We needed to understand how in season 1, the characters got from their childhoods to the characters we see in 2019. And in season 2, we needed to see what we missed while they were all separated in the 60s.

In both instances, it better informed their arcs in the present day, and they were enjoyable to watch to boot.

But despite 6 years having passed between seasons 3 and 4, the longest we've seen outside of their childhoods to season 1, there's really no flashbacks this season for the time we missed between seasons 3 and 4.

Is it any wonder I felt so wrong-footed this season? That's 6 years and we have no idea what happened other than a few offhand comments.

Because we should know things like: What happened with Luther's search for Sloane? Why did Allison and Ray break up? How did any of them get into the jobs they found - whether it's Allison's struggling career, Luther's stripping, Diego's delivery job, etc.? Why did Victor move to Canada?

Instead we just drop in with our characters where everything is different and yet we're both supposed to roll with the changes, but also act like no time has passed? How do you build up to a finale where they sacrifice everything and die if we don't even really understand the lives they're giving up on or how we got here?

A few flashbacks and some better explanations could have easily given us some more depth than we had this season, along with potentially fixing some of the overall structural issues.

And I know that we ended up with an abbreviated season (by whose decision I'm not sure) and that probably played a part. But if that meant cutting the flashbacks, then maybe they should have either reassessed cutting them at all, or the length of the season.

First of all, SPOILERS FOR THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY SEASON 4! Kinda. It's an attempt at an alternative "what if" ending, but still. Also language, obviously.

Now, for my version I came up with at five in the morning. If y'all want to see a more detailed version, might make one if I'm given the time. For now, have this.

The Cleanse. Lumbering its way towards The Umbrella Academy to consume the last traces of Marigold and merge the shattered timeline once and for all. And Five, in every one of his infinite wisdoms, only has one plan.

5: "We need to sacrifice ourselves."

Luther: "Am I the only one that doesn't like this plan?"

Klaus: "Yeah, old Klaus might've been into that kinda thing, but I don't really vibe with the whole-"

Viktor: "I'll do it."

And this is where things change. This time, Viktor takes charge. With his power, he'll take everyone's Marigold and sacrifice himself. Everyone else can take the last train with Lila and Allison's families to try and escape to the new timeline.

Allison: "Viktor, we would never leave without you-"

Viktor: "Please. I'd rather not have all of us erased from existence if there's a chance I can save you guys."

5: "I'm staying as well. If you're dead set on doing the sacrifice play, then someone has to blink the others to the station."

Viktor: "Five, but-"

5: "I've lived a long life. I've lived many long lives. And if you have hope for them, Viktor, then... Then so do I."

With The Cleanse approaching, Five blinks everyone to the subway station to buy Viktor time. There, everyone says their tearful goodbyes to Five and Viktor as they all join hands. The show gets its poignant moment, as Viktor takes the last of everyone's Marigold...

Allison: "... I'm so sorry you left Canada for this."

Viktor: "I'm not. Guess I finally get to be special, huh?"

5: "You were always special."

Until someone interrupts, taking Five's Marigold as well as Viktor's.

Lila: "Sod it."

5: "AGH-! Lila!"

Viktor: "Lila, what are you-"

Lila: "You lot said I should save my family, yeah?"

Lila mimics Viktor's power to take the Marigold for herself, making sure Viktor and Five can escape with their family.

Diego: "Lila, you're insane! Our family needs you! I need you-"

Lila: "Our family's gonna be fine. They've got you lot in it. You've got this."

With one last kiss to Diego, Lila pushes the rest of the group onto the train before it departs. Lila follows the train as long as she can to say goodbye to her family. Then she blinks away.

5: "Diego, there's nothing we can do."

Lila faces The Cleanse with a defiant shout. To this universe, to every universe, to this abomination that tried to tear away the only things she'd ever loved in life.

Lila: "FUCK YOOOOOOOOOU!!!"

The timelines collapse back into their one true form, and on the 12th hour of the 8th day of August, 2024, absolutely nothing happened.

Pogo (narrating): "You might even say it was completely ordinary."

And The Umbrella Academy, for all the times these six siblings have been starting and stopping the end of the world non-stop...

...They really needed a day like that at long last.

... ... ...

And that's how I would've ended the show. There's a lot of other parts I'm sure others have ways to fix, but I think this ending is a bit more satisfying. I kept Lila's self sacrifice, I felt that moment was too good to waste, but added some depth to Viktor and Diego's parts in that scene considering their plots in the show gave them some focus.

PR Anon Here: A few things to add based on the questions in the other asks. I'm going to preface with (this is my professional opinion but i don't work on LN's strategy team, so can only give insights into what i see based on my knowledge of how the industry works) A few things to note: the level of money hurled at this season 3 promo/marketing is unhinged in today's world. Multi-millions were put into promoting just this season of an established show. Netflix/Shondaland really believed in this to be willing to put this amount of money towards it. I can't think of a single tv/movie that has seen this type of push that wasn't with A-list celebrity actors. Essentially from a career standpoint, LN and NC were given golden tickets to ride this out into some amazing career opportunities. With that said, a few things I must note: 1. Nicola is a PR/Marketing teams wet dream. I would kill to have a client like her to work with. I think she took her training very seriously but also she's intuitively savvy at this. She is taking her golden ticket to becoming a powerhouse in the industry and bravo to her. 2. I've seen people write things like "where is LN's PR team..." - you'd be surprised at how frequently clients lie to use to omit things they don't think is important. We ask very through questions, but we can work with what we know. I don't think he thought his personal life would come into play and didn't bother to tell them about it. Hopefully lesson has been learned. 3. The PR playbook is essentially the same whenever two actors are promoting a romantic pairing. They were told to "play it up for the camera" BUT NC & LN have really taken it to the next level. They were given talking points by Shondaland to promote, but no one tells them what to say. I think it's a mixture of a good friendship/comfort level and NC again being a great marketer. 4. The Canada interview was telling for me and gives me a good indication that we are heading towards a winding down. The interviewer was given those questions to ask for sure. They are pulling away from one another too, they were professional and less "intimate" with one another. I'll need to see what other interviews come out in the next day or so, but the vibe has shifted and we'll probably see them shift to a more professional co-worker relationship in these interactions moving forward. Standard interactions so to speak but it will be a change from their previous interviews. I'll add a Part 2 on some other thoughts I have here that are more personal opinion vs just general observations of marketing strategy...

You seem nice and all so don't take this in the wrong tone or anything, But I am going to explain something.

I've talked about this before, but I think the technical definition WE use is bullshit becuase it dis-includes half the cold season as "not winter". If the water is frozen enough for ice fishing and it can be 40 below and there can be blizzards, I think it's being uselessly fucking pedantic to call that "not winter" or "technically it's fall". Like you have your heat on and you winter coat and boots on and are cold inside in a sweater and have the ice pick on your cane and the chain on your boots, it's dark at 4 pm for Pete's sake, you have or winter tires on or you die... It's fucking winter, I don't care if it's still October or November that year.

And it isn't actually universal to consider the middle of the dark cold season technically the "beginning" of winter. The US, Britain and anyone in Canada who wants to be pedantic might go by that definition, but lots of people world over define "winter" by at least the average time of year winter conditions set in.

I grew up in northern Canada and I have not met a person who would see a nasty blizzard cancel Halloween that year and not say "Well I guess it's winter now". Because in this case using the technical definition of "when winter is" this far north is actually useless. It means nothing.

Where I grew up "winter is coming" is an actual thing we say because it means we have to get our plants in, sure, but also start draining the outdoor hose lest it burst and start plastic-ing off drafty windows and basically winter-proofing our homes. Not one of those people would have pointed out that it technically wasn't winter for another month or two when their fingers were already going numb outside or the ground was already starting to freeze. Because it serves no purpose. Even being around a lot of autistic people who love random trivia and BEING ONE, this is the first I have heard of this. Winter to use isn't a technically defined meteorological event, it's a season of weather with practical implications.

Even the incredibly socially inept here know that if you turn to someone desperately clutching at a hot drink to try to maintain circulation to their fingers while their breath freezes to their eyelashes, and say "technically this isn't winter" that's a great way to have everyone hate you. Even my level of social ineptitude knows better than that.

Imagine my annoyance at 20 something yo students coming not even this far north in my 20's and trying to tell me I can't "quote that phrase" without watching game of thrones so I "knew what it meant :)"... Like buddy I'm in the middle of draining your water pipes so they don't burst and assessing what parts of your house need to be shrink-wrapped... Winter is fucking coming.

In short, I AM talking about when it gets cold and I don't think there's any practical use in not doing so.

I'm -in the original post, last year- saying that it seems strange that there would still be 3 months of frozen blizzard weather -after- the point in the year that the days are slowly starting to get longer. Because I would have assumed that the shortest day of the year would fall a little closer the the actual middle of winter weather, instead of being *slightly* offset towards the beginning. I didn't think the planet held on to *that* much heat. But even at that, the current definition is ignoring like 1/3 of nasty mid-winter weather as "not technically winter" and I think that's just useless.

The only people who would not have a very practical understanding of that either live far enough south to not have blizzards in October, or far enough north that there's no stark contrast of "every thing is frozen" VS "everything isn't frozen". And honestly if I lived even further north I would be defining "winter" even more purely by when it's dark, with the solstice even more smack dab in the fucking middle, because that would be the most impactful part of winter to me, the endless dark.

Things are about to get very serious on Sullivan's Crossing.

TV Fanatic scored an exclusive first look at Sullivan's Crossing Season 1 Episode 4, which picks up in the aftermath of Frank being shot by the college boys.

As expected, we're in for an emotionally charged hour as Edna learns of the shocking incident as Frank fights for his life.

In the exclusive clip, we see Sullivan arriving to tell Edna the news, but he handles it very well for someone worried about his friend.

Sully recognizes that he has to be strong to deliver the news, or Edna will be even more worried.

It's a harrowing scene and one that shows the close-knit nature of everyone in the series.

Thankfully, Sully has seen Frank and is well aware of the severity of the situation but notes that Frank will pull through.

Throughout the early episodes of Sullivan's Crossing Season 1, we've witnessed the enduring bond between Edna and Frank.

Simply put, they're couple goals, and for that reason alone, we're inclined to believe Frank will pull through.

The series features highly dramatic scenes, but they're necessary to tell all of the stories at the wheel of the show.

It's rare to get a show with so many well-written characters. Everyone has a purpose, which shows in episodes like this, where everyone rallies to help people in need.

The college boys were first introduced on Sullivan's Crossing Season 1 Episode 2, and they made their presence felt in the bar.

Their presence was elevated somewhat on Sullivan's Crossing Season 1 Episode 3, leading to the life-changing shooting.

Edna doesn't take the news well, and even though Sully says Connie is sending someone to take her to her husband, she wants to be by his side at that moment.

It's only natural. Their love for one another bonds them, and I dread what would happen if Frank didn't survive.

I'm trying to think about where Maggie fits into all of this because she has a connection with Edna and Frank.

On Sullivan's Crossing Season 1 Episode 1, Maggie returned to where she grew up, but many people felt like strangers because she didn't look back after being taken away by her mother several years ago.

There's a good chance she'll be on hand to help Frank through this ordeal, which could help put her back in good graces with her father.

The CW knew Sullivan's Crossing would be popular and picked up Season 2 well ahead of its series debut.

Despite airing earlier this year in Canada, the ratings on The CW have been strong, with the show emerging as the most-watched and highest-rated show on the network this fall.

Those numbers only include live+same-day, so it's possible other shows could be performing well with delayed viewing factored in.

It's also possible that Sullivan's Crossing has a bigger edge vs. the shows it's beating with those numbers factored in.

It's nice to know the show has a bright future for now because the drama is just starting.

In your defence you thought going to training straight from the airport would be a good way to beat jet leg, boy were you wrong.

You went straight to the airport after the US played Canada, hopped on an 11 hours flight and then trained for 3 hours. To say you were running on fumes would be an understatement.

"Leila, you need to take her home" Mapi says slightly concerned for your delirious state.

"You know Jonathon told her to take two days off, come back on tuesday?" Alexia asks.

Leila wasn't aware of this but she also wasn't surprised. You hated to miss out on things or fall behind so when it came to training you never missed a session, no matter what condition you were in.

"Where did you get that from?" Mapi asks when she sees you walking over with yet another coffee.

"I will never reveal my secrets"

"What's is that your third, forth?" Alexia asks slightly amused at the fact that you have found yet another coffee despite been in the gym doing recovery.

"This my dear la reina is coffee number 5" you sing the last part in the same tune as Mambo No.5.

Leila recognised this stage of your tiredness, it was stage 3 out of 5. You were in your energetic stage, it's like your body is giving you one last surge before crashing.

"Let's get you to bed" Leila says as she grabs your hand.

"Now you are speaking my language, to the bedroom we go"

With an extra pep in your step you pull Leila out of the gym.

"God, I love that girl" Jenni laughs as she watches you leave rather enthusiastically.

You manage to stay awake during the car ride home, much to Leila's amazement. However once you were through the door you became quiet.

"Do you ever wonder what got us to this place?" you are layed out on the sofa.

"I mean I know. I moved to Barcelona met you, fancied you now I love you but if I did one thing different, it could be the minutest thing and our lives would have been completely different"

Leila had heard you talk about this this before, you were fasincated by the butterfly effect.

"It is amazing when you think about it. Everything we have done in lives has lead us to this moment. The things I did when I was 5 lead me to be here, with you"

Leila wanted to argue that 5 year Y/N didn't think about the decisions that 25 year old Y/N made but she knew better.

"Think about it. What if I had shared a room with Mapi my first season with Barcelona. I could have been dating someone with a neck tattoo, maybe we would have got matching. I think I could pull off a neck tattoo, maybe I should get one?"

"Baby, you need some sleep" with that Leila stands up holding her hand out, using her strength to pull you up. Given your state you are almost dead weight.

"I think you're right" your voice is quiet, your face is soft and Leila knows that the tiredness has now hit you.

I had this question for a long time. Figured you are the safest person to ask. Do you sometimes have the feeling that June could be toxic for Nick? Like she’s single mindedly selfish and takes Nick and his love for granted. She never acknowledges how much he’s done for her. Instead she keeps pushing him to do more.

Like when she forced him to have sex with Eden, I believe she contributed to a lot of his trauma. Nick was absolutely shattered afterwards. Then in season 3 she tells him he’s good for nothing and she also tells him he’ll have only one chance to a be father to Nicole.

In season 4, she doesn’t think of him unless she needs something from him. She never as much asks him to leave Gilead and come to Canada. This bothers me more because she even asked Lawrence to leave Gilead but not Nick. I agree June’s going through a lot. But does that mean she can continue being mean to Nick and think of him only when she needs something?

i agree completely with all your examples listed here. many of these scenes don’t seem to come from a place of love, and made me question how June really feels for Nick - especially during season 3 when her behavior was particularly insufferable.

she can, but she shouldn’t! and this is the root of most of my issues with June. it's not just Nick she takes it out on - it's everyone around her. people who help her. people who love her. people who are loyal to her. like Joseph said:

i would like to be able to root for June. she doesn’t have to be perfect for me to do so. (if it’s not clear by now, all of my comfort characters are deeply flawed.) but when she continues to treat others like shit (and in some cases actively harm them for her own agenda) 4+ seasons in without ever learning or growing from those mistakes, it’s difficult to maintain positive feelings for her.

and that’s ok. there’s no obligation to. it’s a freakin’ TV drama.

but i will say... even though i harbor doubts sometimes, i do believe June loves and cares for Nick in her own way. i haven’t completely given up on her because there are moments where you can see how deep that love goes, like in 4x03 and 4x09. maybe she’s just such a fundamentally flawed person that it’s difficult for her to express it in a way that comes across natural. maybe she doesn’t even fully realize the magnitude of love there, or maybe she represses it. it’s difficult to say because even though she is the titular character we rarely get to see what’s going on inside her head when it comes to her personal relationships.

like sure, we know all about June’s trauma and her vengeance and how pissed off she is at the Waterfords and the patriarchy, but how does June feel about putting Moira in a position to raise a child she never wanted? how does June feel about raping Luke? how does June feel about manipulating Emily’s pain for her own agenda? how does June feel about Nick constantly doing THE MOST for her, without asking for anything in return? the show barely scratches the surface of these things... and when it does it’s done in a throwaway manner before moving on to the next big shocking moment, leaving far too much distance between the audience and June’s real feelings.

so yeah. i guess the point is, i agree June can be toxic to those around her and after 4 seasons of it i expect nothing more. but the blame doesn’t lie solely on her - she was made into a poorly written character, after all. characters can go through trauma and still grow as a person, maintain organic relationships, and invite the audience to connect with them (instead of demanding it “because she’s a victim.”)

but instead Bruce & co prioritize making June a symbol rather than a human. she’s a symbol of vengeance against the patriarchy, of (white) feminist violence, and of devoted motherhood - with little meat in between. this is very clear from the way they all talk about June and the show as a whole, too. and that’s where June’s character flaws really come from - not her personal trauma - but from the writers’ failure to humanize her in a substantial way.

I live in Canada where the wildfires right now are really bad, so we've had to be careful with being outside with the air quality, and days haven't even been that nice with all the smoke. The first day it was interesting bc everything smelled like a campfire, but after that it just irritated my lungs and you could barely see the sun through the smoke and haze. (And also sunny days allow for some of the best baseball games, and I'm a huge baseball fan)

✨Important Notes/Updates✨

Bilibili is allowing non-members to watch for free! No region locks, and you don’t even need to make an account. Free watchers will be one week behind paid members. But this is a legal and free way to support the donghua if you’re unable to pay! (This actually means that you’ll be able to see the episodes faster and for free on Bilibili than you would on YouTube, because YouTube has a two week delay instead of just one week.)

Funimation is broadcasting TGCF in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. These are some of the regions which are blocked by YouTube, so this is an available alternative for those who don’t want to go through Bilibili. They have also stated they will launch in Mexico and Brazil this winter.

ALL broadcasts are in Chinese with hard-coded/embedded English and Chinese subs. (I.e., they come with the broadcast itself, on top of the image. Nothing to toggle on/off, they are automatically there.) They are the exact same across all the platforms.

Please support official releases so that we can get more seasons, and high quality! This is still niche content, believe it or not!

1.) "Where is the best place to watch?"

I still reccomend Bilibili's native website/app over all other streaming platforms. This is due to some key points:

Bilibili's website/app gets the episode the very second they drop. There is no delay whatsoever. YouTube and Funimation have been delayed the last two weeks. It's unknown if this is just a hiccup or what, but if watching new episodes ASAP is important to you, going through Bilibili ensures you will not have to worry about any uncertainty.

Price breakdowns: Bilibili's website/app 3-month membership is $10-11 USD. Their YouTube channel's "MBBM Lv2" membership varies by region, but in many places is similar or just a tad more. In the US, the MBBM Lv2 membership and Funimation membership is the same price ($5.99 per month, or $17.97 for 3 months). So you can actually save some cash by going through Bilibili directly.

In the end, this is largely up to personal choice and comfort. Some people may find it difficult to navigate Bilibili's website even with guides and google translate's auto-translate feature. In this case, YouTube or Funimation are fine alternatives. If you also have an existing Funimation sub or plan to use it to watch other shows, then that's perfectly valid too. Similar with the MBBM lv2 sub on YouTube, especially if you want to use it to see other shows (e.g. Legend of Exorcism which is only English-subbed on YouTube).

2.) "Where do I watch for free?"

On Bilibili's website, you can watch episodes for free! You will be one episode behind paid members, but it's a legal way to support the donghua. You don't even need to create an account!

3.) "What episode will be airing when/where?"

All this following stuff requires you to have passed the Bilibili quiz to unlock levels: If you are lv2+, you can leave comments and give coins to offical TGCF videos. (Log in daily to get 1 coin/day if you're lv1+!) If you are lv4+, leave a good 5-star review!

1.) "What's the difference between Bilibili's YouTube Channel's MBBM Lv1 and Lv2 memberships?"

MBBM Lv2 allows you to watch the episodes on the same day as Bilibili's website broadcast.

MBBM Lv1 has new episodes delayed by one week, meaning you will be one episode behind the others. There actually is zero point in subscribing to MBBM Lv1 (unless you want to watch other subbed donghua) because you can watch the same content on Bilibili for absolutely free, since Bilibili is allowing non-members to watch TGCF one episode behind paid members.

You can also watch two episodes behind on YouTube.

2.) "If I have YouTube Premium/Red, do I still need a membership on Bilibili's YouTube page?"

Yes. YouTube premium is completely separate from the channel-specific memberships.

3.) "Are episodes simulcast on YouTube?"

While originally stated as being simulcast, there actually seems to be a bit of a delay on YouTube as of now. It's unclear if this will change with future episodes.

4.) "Do I need a VPN?"

If you are from one of the restricted countries, then yes, you'll need to use a VPN. You can still pay for the subscription as normal, and then use a VPN to watch the donghua. It will not affect payment.

🔹BILIBILI-RELATED FAQs:🔹

1.) "Do I need to take that 100-question quiz to sign up for Bilibili or the membership?!"

No, it's totally optional! You do not need it to either watch the free episodes or to buy a membership. It's only if you want to comment and stuff. It might make you think you gotta do it, or enter a code, but it's actually not needed. Check out THIS post for more info!!! (However, you may still want to do it in order to level up and eventually leave a nice review for the donghua!)

2.) "I'm only able to watch 6min on Bilibili's website when I watch from my phone. Do I need the app?"

You do not need the app. Switch your browser to Desktop Mode in order to watch the video in full.

Be sure to download a browser like Google Chrome, Firefox, etc that supports this mode if your native browser doesn't allow for it.

3.) "Can I get the app on iPhone/iOS?"

This depends on if you are in a country where the app is not region locked in the app store. If you're able to download it that way, great! If not, try using a VPN and setting your region to mainland China. It may work. APKs are not useable on iPhones, so unless you know how to sideload apps onto your device, you may be stuck with the app store only.

Do note that you might be unable to pay for a Bilibili membership through the app, depending on version, but you can always simply pay through the website and then use the app as normal. It will apply account-wide on all devices.

4.) "Why are there two versions of the app?"

One seems to be the international version, which is more basic and lets you pay via GooglePay/ApplePay. The other one seems to be made for mainland China, and allows you to even buy merchandise through it (Chinese address/bank acc required). Mostly, both have to be downloaded via APK on Android. But some iOS users have reported different versions of the app being available for them through the app store (namely the int'l ver, and some have said they can use a VPN to get the mainland one).

5.) "Is there any benefit to having the app over just using the website?"

Not really, no. With the app you can buy very cute hualian themed skins for your profile, though (if you have the mainland version of the app). Plus you can save videos for offline viewing.

6.) "Do I need to enter my area code for Bilibili when signing up/in?"

NO, you do not enter your area code in the phone number field. Select your country from the drop-down list and it will automatically consider your area code. (E.g. if you're in America, select 美国 and enter in your number like 5557779999.)

7.) "I didn't get to set a password when signing up, so how do I log into my Bilibili account after being logged out?"

Use the same phone number you did to sign up. Instead of a password, you'll enter in a one-time key that is sent to your phone via text message. (NOTE: some people have reported not receiving these messages, which may vary by phone carrier!)

As mentioned above, don't include your area code when filling out your number.

Also, if you are signed in on the app on your phone, you can scan the QR code on the log-in page through the app.

8.) "How do I turn off the barrage comments filling up the video I'm watching?"

Select the little button that reads "弹" under the video:

9.) Is the Bilibili subscription auto-renewing?

No, the 1-month (¥25), 3-month (¥68), 1-year (¥168) subscriptions will not automatically renew. They are a one-time payment only!

Notice that the renewing payments all say "连续" in front of them, which means "continuing" or "successive" types of subscriptions. They are also cheaper than the one-time payment. (E.g. the renewing 3-month sub is ¥45 instead of ¥68.) Moreover, the renewing types are not even available to purchase with PayPal, afaik. You need Alipay or WeChat Pay, etc.

10.) "Can I use the app/membership to read the manhua too?"

Unfortunately, not quite! Your Bilibili account is universal, but you'll need to download the manhua app seperately and topping up M-coins to pay for the manhua. (One-time purchases, either by volume or by chapter as per your choice.)

11.) "What resolutions are available?"

You can watch up to 480p as a free member. Paid members can watch at 1080p and high-bit-rate 1080p. It's possible to chromecast it to TV, too. (I haven't tried it, but others have!)

12.) "Can I watch across multiple devices?"

Yes, you can!

13.) "Do I need a VPN?"

No, Bilibili is not region-locked. However, some particular countries may have Chinese apps blocked.... :(

14.) "I want to leave a comment/review. How do I level up on Bilibili?"

Log in daily, watch at least one video per day, give coins (attained by logging in) to your fave videos, etc! It will definitely take a while haha.

15.) "Will I be able to watch other donghua like MDZS or SVSSS with my membership on Bilibili?"

No, those two donghuas are produced by TenCent, not Bilibili. You will need either a TenCent/WeTV account, or you can watch them on their YouTube channel (free).

No, afaik, the regular $5.99 sub covers TGCF too.
