#but also by choosing to kill again he is choosing to die

I actually agree with you for the most part. One could argue that he's had 100 years to develop as a person sure but I feel that discounts the past 150 ish years of him being the monster that we see him as in the series.
The first time I saw the episode and he explained the event that triggered his character arc was when an alien who had every reason to kill him or leave him to die instead saved his life, I was like ...that seems just a tad too easy. Like it's an explanation I can see him giving the turtles in order to gain their trust because he needs their help with something.
I think his character works much better if you assume that he's not actually as much of a changed person as he presents himself, he just realized that there was no way Earth could defend itself against more advanced extraterrestrial forces and pivoted to a different strategy in order to achieve his main goal.
Sure he says in FF that he's not proud of what he did in his past to all those mutants and aliens but I honestly don't really believe that. Bishop has always been a big picture only kind of guy so pivoting his approach in how he achieves his ultimate goal is a lot more believable to me instead of him suddenly growing a conscience because of one singular, albeit big and life changing, event.
That way, it's less of a redemption arc and more of a "same guy different font." I do, however, recognize that the show clearly does want the viewers to see him as being redeemed, though so the canon does render moot that part of my point. Regardless, I choose to interpret his character as only 'reformed' externally rather than internally, if that makes sense. Yes, he's changed his actions, disbanded the EPF and all that, and keeps up a decent appearance because he's a politician, but to me, he is absolutely the same condescending self-important ego maniac who at best sees his past actions as regretful in the sense that they were pointless now that he knows a better peaceful alternative was far more effective at achieving what he wanted or at worst has no regrets at all because he believes he did what he felt he had to at the time with the knowledge he had.
But yeah what he did to Captain Finn (I think that was the guy's name?) and how absolutely unremorseful he is about it in the episode Dragon's Brew, kinda made me sick to my stomach the first time I rewatched it as an adult. I cannot recall even a throw away visual or line in the show that even suggested that he fixed that. (Don't quote me on that but I might be wrong? I'll have to watch the later seasons again to double check.)
I do like that he saw some level of consequences at Stockman's hand, though. Having an episode devoted to him paying to some degree for what he did to Baxter was definitely needed. Maybe the writers felt it would be redundant to do more than one episode where Bishop has to face consequences for his past actions. The show is still ultimately about the turtles and given how long Bishop has been around you could probably fill an entire season with him paying for just a percentage of the atrocities he's likely committed in the 150 ish years he's been on the US government's payroll.
The point you bring up about his behavior towards Karai is also valid. The weirdness with how Karai and April are treated by older men within the show comes about every once in a while in an episode and kinda slaps me in the face with the reminder of "oh yeah this was written by men in early 2000s".
It's more of a writing problem than a character problem imo but honestly given how old Bishop is it would also be just as valid to see his weird behavior as what you'd probably expect from a 200 year old white guy in a 40 something body who has gone through most of US history as exactly that. Not just a white man but a one with a massive amount of federally backed power to boost his ego.
The Worst Thing Bishop Ever Did
Possibly the most fucked up thing we see Bishop do in the whole show happens in Dragon's Brew (s4e4)
(or rather we see the aftereffects of the worst thing he's possibly ever done)
It's revealed that a genetic experiment T9581, is actually a man that was mutated by Bishop and his team and has been imprisoned by the EPF for an unknown length of time. He's been confined there and planned to be used as a weapon by the US military (if we take into account Hun's line about stealing a "top secret military weapon shipment" earlier in the episode)
That's not the most fucked up part though. That award goes to the moment we find out that Bishop was this man's friend. He wasn't some subordinate like the guy we see Bishop threaten earlier in the episode. This guy was close enough to Bishop that Bishop was asked TO BE IN HIS WEDDING AS HIS BEST MAN
What. The. Fuck. Bishop?
It's so genuinely disturbing and vile. Bishop's cruelty doesn't end with aliens or mutants or anyone else that he thinks is a threat to the Earth or his work.
He was totally fine with mutilating a guy who probably saw Bishop as a good friend.
To make matters worse, this guy has a wife and kid who believe he's dead, but he still remembers them despite how much the mutation has affected his mind/memory. It's so damn sad and was probably the biggest moment I had where I desperately wanted Bishop to get kicked off a pier for what he put this man through.

Callum has asked Rayla twice now to kill him if he's ever corrupted again. This time as like a barter. And this time, despite looking devastated, she finally (begrudgingly) agrees. And later this season, Callum is cleared of his dark magic corruption, but it also warned that if he does dark magic again it'll overwhelm him.
Man my dreams have already been haunted enough by death foreshadowing I can't take much more of it for these two.
#listen i know many many fans adore the angst of one or both of them dying. especially if its the other that caused the killing blow#i get that. i do#but i just wouldnt be able to take that kind of heartache.#if any of the main characters die by the end of the show - ESPECIALLY rayla callum or ez - i will lose my mind. especially if they do it to#each other. either intentionally or not. simply wouldnt be able to take it im too emotional and attached to them to be able to take that#i like angst. but not death angst. i cant take that. especially not for characters i adore so much#they better NOT have either of them kill each other by the end of the show i will not be able to handle it#this better just be some foreshadowing of it 'they said over and over that theyll do it for each other but in the end they love each other#too much to do it and love fixes it' or some sappy bullshit like that. anything but killing each other please i cant handle that#fuck. shits gonna haunt my dreams even more now than before#they wouldnt kill off their main characters that are the faces of their show right? ....right?? please??? i beg?????#please think if the children#me im the children#tdp#tdp s6#tdp s6 spoilers#that scene where they argue about callum doing dark magic again was so very needed but still oof. and the way callum is so much more firm#this time and rayla looks so devastated but knows he means it even more now. god. end me. i just finished that episode on my rewatch btw#also like. can we talk about how she loudly slapped her hands together right in their faces to get her point across. damn id have jumped#back too. she uh. really wanted to get her point across huh. shes never done that before.#oh oof man this episode has no many emotions. giggles and funnies and sadness and sweetness and heartache and fear and worry#thats probably not even all of em#rayla#callum#rayllum#also they really choose random times to use that slightly different animation style huh. that makes their faces look more loose and the#expressions sit differently. looks a little more animated. and like. goofy but not in a bad way? i noticed it blatantly in s5 in at least#one scene (while in the market in 506) and maybe even other spots in s5. and some less obvious spots in s4 too. now here during their#argument and when callum asks rayla to promise again. its not bad its just starkly different and throws me off. wonder if like. a different#person animated those parts and they somehow did it differently. idk it hardcore sticks out to me every time now when i see it.

Louis does see Armand for all his flaws, and yet still chooses him, and loves him, but when he sees them for what they really were, and really entailed, he no longer can. Oh, gradations of evil. Louis had in ways bought into it.
#contriversial?#Like you can't deny Louis knew Armand to be a liar manipulator a disciplinarian betrayer and a threat among other things#He knows him and Claudia are at odds with each other#You might ask why then would he not turn the other way and run? And well cause Louis is tired of looking and feeling weak and Armand#where he isn't flawed offered him all this power as flimsy and dangerously able to be undermined as it may be#and he offers a place for him to have a connection he fears he would otherwise never have again in his everlasting existence#Suppose then Armand is the lesser of two evils#I feel too that since Louis views himself as deeply flawed and deeply capable of the same things that they are both#beings of evil as they are vampires and so on#to go about judging it so strongly that you deny any sort of connection you could have in another would really be to deny himself of#all he wants and needs and desires which gets at a point of him of his inner felt weaknesses of denying himself and being subjugated#away from being able to obtain such things without opposition or other forces#Armand is flawed in that he is a force but Louis sees to the potential of him being genuine in his devotions to him as#capable of quelling this entirely. To have Armand be 'his' is to finally control what has long been out of his control.#It's... more complicated than this surely but surface level Louis does choose armand and loves him but#it's always layered with an amount of false pretense and illusions of deeper trust#If you're whole vampire community is assholes who would either want to die or kill you you might as well choose the one who won't do either#at least by all impressions#and who you find very attractive physically and intellectually and who finds you attractive too and who happens to be good in bed#and into the same sex things you're into and curious about#Who you contentiously just get and who gets you back even if you would never really see eye to eye because you know a specific kind of pain#still knowing you relate to them somehow even if you can't see to their perspective#I am rambling now but this ship gets me ....#Feel similarly about why Louis would apologize to lestat - he feels put down to not own up to his part in all of it and he feels more in#control over his situation and his sense of self to simply admit this than to pretend like he was an absent player#He doesn't agree now with how he acted back then and in a way this is his way of admitting to he can move past that he is that person still#which he isn't in any sense still that person#Do I ... fully agreeeeee??? no. Do I get it? yeeah.#It's an autonomy thing really like I'm also not going to say he can't if it genuinely doesn't harm him to I guess.#Not like he's fully forgiving and forgetting here either he's just owning some shared responsibility esp. on part of Claudia

Totally normal 10 year old mindset
#i don't know if I posted this already...#i like how I drew them here#I don't know how fucked up Luci should be at age 10. sure she lived with a fucked up family for 3 years#then formed very wrong negative opinions about many things in the next 3 years until this happened#but would she. at 10. would a ten year old actually say or think that?#hmmmmm#well. I guess it's fine. it's just a garden. who wouldn't want the world to look pretty?#it's ominous coming from her because her garden has several skeletons in it.#it's like a foreshadowing on how she's going to kill for him in the future.#it's just an example on how far she's willing to go regardless of the feasibility of the task at hand#it's also irony because in the end it's enea kinda turned into garden. and how she rejected it. him. what he's become.#well ene turned into a giant tree but at the base of the tree is a city wide area filled with vegetation that people call garden.#lolol I make so many oc comics of just snippets of their story I like. no build up whatsoever#if Luci is ever offered to get Ene back in exchange of her own life she'd refuse the offer#because according to her Ene is kind and he'd just die to save the world again if given the chance. he wouldn't fail the second time#and Luci has enough hatred for the world to choose to live an Enea-less life if it means the world will suffer too#lol she's 19 at that point. sometimes I think I should give her and Enea more time in the world#but part of the tragedy of it all is that they were just 19 when it all went down

i'm starting to realize that "your [insert authority figure here] not wating us to be together adds another, potentially even stronger layer to my love (it is spite)" might not be a completely healthy approach to relationships, but i'm too deep in now
i'm like five characters in, no turning back at this point
#again i think Dorian Pavus may have rewired my brain a bit back in the day#i remember the overarching “your dad's an asshole? fuck your dad I love you anyway” i felt then#now it's “mystra wants you dead? fuck mystra and choose me; i love you and want you alive”#“cazador wants you to die for him? fuck that; kill the fucker and live gloriously with me”#“shar wants you sad and empty? fuck her; I love you and fear no god; what now”#“vlaakith wants you dead? fuck that we'll kill her and make out passionately over her corpse”#<- that's Phyr#she's a bit. intense#also there's an unintentional theme of his lovers' dads not being too pleased with Ray which might be something for him to sort out#at 24 with a lover that's 32 he was very justified in his fuck you#at 55 with a lover that's 24 it's a bit more. um. yeah you know i get it. i get where you're coming from.#i really do i understand your apprehension Ulder; i was hesitant too#you still made your disabled queer teenage son also homeless in one swoop so excuse me for not taking advice from you on his wellbeing#squirrel speaks#squirrel plays bg3

Why does Eowyn want to die?
Because Aragorn won’t love her? Because she feels trapped in her feminine gender role?
These are the explanations we get in the text. However, none of the characters really acknowledge Eowyn’s darkest fear: being taken alive by the enemy.
There are some bad takes on Eowyn that boil down to patronizing her and downplaying the seriousness of her problems. People say that she had a naive desire for glory and Faramir teaches her that war isn’t actually fun. Then there’s the whole “Eowyn was a deserter who selfishly ran away from her duty” argument.
You can only say these things if you ignore how dire the situation was, how close Sauron was to winning, and how gruesome Eowyn’s fate would have been if he won. She knew that death or capture likely awaited her, and she knew that dying in battle was the least bad option. (She also knew her own worth and believed that she was too useful a warrior to be left behind with the civilians. And she was right.)
Eowyn’s actions are ruthlessly practical! She wants to die fighting because that’s better than waiting around for The Horrors. Let’s be real, Eowyn is too sensible to be suicidal over an unrequited crush.
Here are some of her most revealing quotes:
“All your words are but to say: you are a woman, and your part is in the house. But when the men have died in battle and honor, you have leave to be burned in the house, for the men will need it no more.”
“And those who have not swords can still die upon them.”
“Nor is it always evil to die in battle, even in bitter pain. Were I permitted, in this dark hour I would choose the latter.”
“But I do not desire healing…. I wish to ride to war like my brother Éomer, or better like Théoden the king, for he died and has both honour and peace.”
In the end, Eowyn only stops wanting to die after Sauron is defeated. Just before the Ring is destroyed, she tells Faramir:
“I stand upon some dreadful brink, and it is utterly dark in the abyss before my feet, but whether there is any light behind me I cannot tell. For I cannot turn yet. I wait for some stroke of doom.”
Eowyn can’t turn to light and life until the war is over. Hope is too painful; death at least offers “honor and peace.” This passage is so important because it EXPLICITLY links Eowyn’s despair to the outcome of the war and makes it clear that she is not simply having a meltdown because Aragorn rejected her.
There are two important moments where Eowyn is threatened with violence. The very first time we meet her, we are told by Gandalf that Wormtongue planned to turn her into a sex slave after Saruman conquered Rohan. Even though this threat is dismissed quickly, it’s a disturbing reminder of what could happen to Eowyn if Sauron wins.
Then we have the most triumphant moment of Eowyn’s story: her battle with the Witch King. Once again, Eowyn is not threatened with death, but with captivity and torment:
“Come not between the Nazgûl and his prey! Or he will not slay thee in thy turn. He will bear thee away to the houses of lamentation, beyond all darkness, where thy flesh shall be devoured, and thy shrivelled mind be left naked to the Lidless Eye.”
Eowyn laughs at him and makes sure to announce that she is a woman before killing him. Her victory is all the more satisfying because the Witch King has just threatened her with captivity, loss of agency, the violation of her body and mind—all threats that Eowyn has faced before. But the Witch King’s words continue to haunt Eowyn and us. He threatens to withhold death; and death is therefore framed as an escape, a gift. Eowyn is taken to the Houses of Healing, but she is obsessed with returning to battle and fighting until she dies.
When Eowyn says that she fears “a cage,” this is a brilliantly simple metaphor for the entire spectrum of oppression she has faced: from the well-meaning restrictions of her culture to the horrifying enslavement threatened by Wormtongue.
Once the war is over, Eowyn is able to laugh at her fears. She teases Faramir: “And would you have your proud folk say of you: there goes a lord who tamed a wild shieldmaiden of the North!” Her fear of being caged has been turned into a bit of flirtatious banter. She feels completely safe with Faramir, and the idea that he “tamed” her is nothing but a joke between them.

Sakumo being a super popular borderline sex symbol in his era will never stop being my favorite hc, I need to see more of it
All the people his age and younger had a crush on him. It was just a Thing(tm) where 9 times out of 10, a Konoha shinobi's first crush was probably Sakumo. Even other villages young shinobi hung up his bingo book picture above their bunk and dreamed of both killing him, being killed by him (in a hot way), having a battlefield fling with him, and more. There was blackmarket fanfiction. He was incredibly popular among civilians all over fire country. Some popular romance novels had love interests very blatantly based off him.
Even before they were on a team together, Obito and Rin both had a silly kid crush on Kakashi's dad (Obito more than Rin) and he was aware of it. This did not help make him like them any more. (By the time hearing smthn positive ab his dad would have made Kakashi softer, they'd both gotten better at hiding the crush, so to Kakashi it looked like they'd gotten over Sakumo.) Even Minato had a bit of a thing for him, not really but like— strong, popular, feard and very friendly ninja who is now paying him some attention (bc hes his kids teacher) he's not immune. Kushina understands, she is also not immune. (Kakashi is going to throw a fucking fit)
Even after his failed mission, when his reputation crashes and burns within the village, he still can't completely shake his admirers— they possibly just get more disrespectful ab the attraction when it mixes with the hate. (Which tbh could make for an interesting discussion all on its own)
Kakashi is haunted by his father's insane popularity for decades after his death. He does his very best to ignore the lingering evidence of people being insane ab his father.
One day he realizes one of his favorite romance novels has a romance interest based off Sakumo and has a break down ab it and can never read the series again.
When raiding an old abandoned enemy camp w Team Ro, he finds an old, autographed photo of his dad covered in lipstick marks in the communal bathroom. He chooses to ignore it but it's quickly spotted by his teammates, who do not know who Sakumk is, and v quickly begin to remark on the poster, who this mysterious Konoha nin is, and ahaha damn he is kinda good looking, huh? (Kakashi wants to DIE)
Shisui ends up taking the poster back to Konoha with them and hangs it up in the ANBU communal quarters where it is VERY quickly recognized. And also some of the people in that room recognize it so quick bc they also used to own a similar poster. (Kakashi wants to DIE someone PLEASE kill him now)
Its only when he's given team 7 that he finally thinks he's escaped the legacy of his father as Konoha's Most Sexiest Shinobi. Only for Naruto, when being trained by Jiriyah, to find his drafts for Icha Icha very clearly inspired by his dad. Which he can never publish for multiple reasons (lingering respect for Sakumo. Also for Kakashi, who is his biggest fan and would probably never look at him again.)
Naruto somehow accidentally brings this up with Kakashi who like. Has war flashbacks and immediatley stands up and walks away as Jiryah scrambles to try to explain himself and Tsunade looks on in scorn (she will approach him later to carefully ask for the drafts while trying to seem like she's not really asking for them bc she's too proud to admit it)
Naruto and Sakura discover Kakashi-sensei's dad was a sex symbol. I don't even know how they'd react but like. Oh my god. Oh my god you guys.
Funniest option would be they accidentally revive his popularity a little bit by being so loud ab it they like, remind people ab him. + introduce another generation to the idea of him
Kakashi is crouched on the floor with his face in his hands. When will he be freed from this hell.
Sasuke does not escape tho, he goes to sound and finds a picture of Sensei's dad in Orochimaru's office (???????)
This is such a shitty sketch but the vision:
Itachi, who learned who Sakumo was from that poster thing, goes on to find a photo of him in ""Madara's"" belongings and gets super weirded out but ultimately doesn't. Super care. But also. Like. What. What.
After Itachi finds the photo, which Obito genuinley forgot he fucking had and keeps in part just bc its like one of the only belongings that remained from his Konoha days, he shoves it somewhere in Kamui to forget about.
But then in the Obito vs Kakashi Kamui fight, it fucking flutters down in the middle of the fight and Obito fucking dies of humiliation as Kakashi realizes he will truly Never Escape and that this reality is his own personal hell
Uhh endgame Kakashi becomes Hokage and accidentally retreads his father's path in becoming the new Konoha Sexy Man. Which simultaneously crushes him (he will never escape) and fills him with delight (he will now be able to impart the pain of having your father figure be lusted after by all ur friends and acquaintances onto his students)

Dc x Dp story prompt pt. 2
The same vein as my other post here
But what if Damian and Danny was the same age, I really love that trope too, that they’re basically twins how close in age they are, maybe just a few days, MAX a week or so.
When Damian comes back to the family, Bruce gets a whole new kind of paranoid again. He kinda stopped the whole sleeping around phase when he got the kids, since Dick (wanting to kill people) kinda took up a lot of his free time. And after that the kids just kept coming so he didn’t really get into it again.
But then Damian came into it, and he was like “wait, have I checked the DNA database the last few years??” And goes down into the cave to do a country wide DNA analysis on DNA on file, both in police/hospitals and the whole nine yards. (Cause he’s extra like that)
And then he find that in just about the same time he was SA’ed by Talia, he got really drunk at a science charity event in Amity Park, maybe to get rid of his stress of it all, and because Bruce would rather die than cope with his problems in a healthy way, and released some energy by being with the Fenton couple, who seemed sane enough (at the time).
The Fenton’s knew that Danny was Wayne’s but then decided that they kinda just wanted him themselves, and then got really into GiW and ghost hunting, and then kinda forgot to tell Wayne.
So now Bruce has to juggle with the fact that Talia hid away Damian, and the Fentons fucking forgot to tell him that they have his son.
He goes to Amity Park to find his son, who’s basically in the same situation as Tim, barely acknowledged by his parents and left to his own devices with his sister.
Bruce being Bruce goes, welp, might as well get custody of them both. Legally he should be able to when Danny confesses to the illegal machines in the basement that killed him. So the couple is deemed unfit to care for the two, then minors.
Problem is:
Danny and Jazz doesn’t really want to leave Amity Park.
Solution:
Buy a second mansion in Amity Park and make that the home they move into, with servants vetted by the Waynes, and security on par with the White House.
They can live there until they finish school, and they’re free to choose what happens after that, go to Gotham and be with the family, maybe Gotham university, or anything else.
Bruce is just happy that they’re not in the cape business like the rest of his kids…
Danny doesn’t know Bruce is Batman, so he has to be extra careful to not expose himself as a hero to them, and also not drag them into the ghost realm and ghost fighting. And also, wtf is wrong with the ectoplasm in the Jason kid?? (He a ghost too??)
But he also really likes the idea of an actually caring family, I mean, Bruce went out of his way to not uproot his life and makes sure they can choose whatever future they want, even if that doesn’t include him. Hell he even took Jazz in, who isn’t even his kid.
His new siblings seem fun, caring and like they actually care, making an effort to help him understand that being neglected by his parents isn’t his fault. Tim and him finding comradeship in both of their experiences with it. Dick is just overly protective and seems like he’s trying to genuinely get to know him. Making sure not to pressure the two new siblings too much, but also organizing siblings bonding time.
Bruce of course doesn’t know yet that Danny is a vigilante, so he has to juggle wanting to learn about these new kids, as well as hide them away from his Brucie persona, so they can live normal lives.
He’ll just ignore the way Constantine is brushing things off his shoulders every time they’re in the watchtower together, mumbling something about a ‘dark energy’ clinging to him. But he always says weird shit.
So what happens when a giant ghost fight occurs in Amity, Bruce is notified and comes to rescue his kid in full Batman gear, Danny is gone and Jazz won’t tell him where he is, cause why the fuck does Batman care.
Danny is just confused why the entire Justice league is suddenly in Amity, and why the fuck The Batman™️ is running around looking for his human form.

do you ever think that sometimes Dick just like, gets fed up?
Like he's supposed to be this "Golden Boy", the first Robin, the first Sidekick, the other half of the Dynamic Duo, Bruce's oldest son, the "perfect" one , the "calm" one, the "happy" one, the one with a perfect childhood and parents , the one where nothings really gone that wrong
And that's what his family see's him as
Like his friends haven't died too, like his parents weren't stripped away from him, parents he loved so much, and all he could do was watch. Like he hasn't been tortured and raped and kidnapped. Like he wasn't the inspiration for so many kids to become heros kids who died . Like he didn't feel guilty for his little brothers death. Like he didn't choose the name Robin to honor his parents, then have that taken away from him too. Like he wasn't also a child, 8 and traumatized and wanting revenge and hurting so so much. Like he hasn't watched his friends and family go through so much torment time and time again and been able to do nothing about it. Like he didn't get mad or angry or feel emotions other than "happy" or "disappointed". Like he's composed and has his act together. Like he's perfect
And he just keeps it all down, brewing benth the surface, waiting for it to boil over, like when he killed the Joker.
Maybe one day he's just sick of it and it spills over again. Maybe when Jason says something about being replaced or when Tim's looking at him like he's an idiot. Or maybe when Bruce doesn't think he's component enough to handle a case alone, or when the team looks at him like a child.
Just because he pretends not to be broken, not to be hurting and shattered and slowly dieing inside with each forced smile and each bad joke to break the unbearable tension, each "I'm fine" carving a way into his heart, eating away at his insecurities and doubts.
And sometimes he's just so done with everything
#Idk just thought of this silly little idea#the angst took over#he deserves a crash out#and a hug#dick grayson

RIP Ricky September they had to kill you because it would have been unrealistic to not keep you on as a companion 😔
EDIT: I've noticed some people taking this post really seriously, so to clarify: no, I don't think Ricky was literally a perfect uwu anti-racist angel. This post was mostly a joke about how he was running around doing companion shit and, most of all, how the Doctor and Ruby both thought he was a hottie. My actual feelings about Ricky are that he's a complacent white liberal. Character reading under the cut if you want an explanation.
I do think the implications of making him unplugged from the racism bubble, paralleling him with the Doctor (man who shows up with knowledge about history and technology and guides the other character through dangerous situations), and directly contrasting to Lindy (including being open to trust the Doctor without second guessing him the same way Lindy and all her friends did) are supposed to be that he wasn't like the other people there and is thus LESS racist since racism comes to be what defines their society. I've seen some people basically ask "then why'd he move to White People City?" but within the text it's actually Rich People City; the reason everyone there is white is because systemic racism financially benefits white people. Making him LESS racist is NECESSARY to giving his death any meaning - because if he definitively would have called the Doctor a slur and walked away, then the Dot killing him quickly was a mercy kill because we KNOW all the other residents are going to die in the wilderness.
THAT SAID, I also don't think he was a progressive anti-racist. Do you know what Ricky actually is? A white liberal. He might disengage from the White People Bubble, he might not be outwardly cruel to black people, but he's still surrounded by people who are and benefits from a system where ONLY WHITE PEOPLE ARE RICH. The culture might be fucked, but he still benefits from it without doing anything to actually fight it. It's like how many a white liberal will read about the history of slavery, feel sad about it, and then be uncritical of prison labor. If Ricky was meant to be progressive, there'd be something, ANYTHING in the text about how he's tried to educate his followers on their society's problems, but it got deleted. He is COMPLACENT.
That's sort of the point, I'd say, since the theme is about how priviledged white people put themselves in a bubble of people like them and choose to look away from what's wrong in society. Those people become complacent at best with no effort to actually speak out or change things. Hell, even within the text, Ricky SEES a problem others are looking away from (the slugs eating people), but only tries to fight it by making a TikTok about it and becomes complacent again, accepting that people are just going to be eaten.
So tl;dr: no, I don't think the white liberal kid literally would have been a companion. I think if you stuck him in the Ood episode, for example, he'd have shaken his head when he found out about their plight, maybe made a TikTok with sad music playing over footage of them, and then said "welp, nothing else can be done." I think it's FUNNY to imagine another companion that the Doctor and Ruby both are giggling like schoolgirls over.
Also I kind of thought he was ugly - no offense to the actor but the makeup they had him in combined with the lighting and closeups made him look way older than 27 so he gave off this uncanny "how do you do fellow kids?" look.

i feel like so many people are kinda missing out on one of the takeaways from MAG200 (spoilers!!) because people tend to water martin's character down. he and jon both believe that the ends can justify the means, and thats one of their central arguments in 199, because fundamentally they have the same values. and up until then, they're main conflicts with each other was over which actions to take, though they both agreed action was in order. jon believes that the 'end', a universe where the fears have died, is justified by the 'means', killing everyone on earth and forcing everyone to remain in fear domains. martin was on board with their freedom fight at first, having reservations that jon shared, but still choosing to spare people or command jon to kill them whenever he saw fit. as much as he sheugged off making his own decisions, he still chose to combat avatars and even ally with annabelle. throughout s5, we see him prove again and again that the end, presumably killing elias and ending the apocalypse, will be worth allowing people to suffer in the meantime. but when jon is included in the suffering people category, martin cant include that in his world view.
that is the major distinction in their philosophies- the value they place on jon's life and the amount they each blame him. jon blames himself for everything, and from the beginning he has allowed himself to be put in danger and risk his life. initially, he doesnt want to die, but as s4 progresses, we see him grapple with valuing his life as he recognizes hes becoming less "human"- in the coffin, he even makes the gamble that he'll did there. martin also has very low self worth, but holds jon on a pedestal (he always did), and once the ends can only be achieved through the means of killing jon or watching him suffer, martin struggles to fit that into his black and white philosophy.
it isnt that martin or jon are "weak" or have deeply contrasting world views, but they are unable to agree which exact actions are inexcusable, as murder never seemed to be an issue until it was martin holding the knife.
#if that makes any sense#i hate how ppl make martin such a 2D guy#he has depth!! he was spider material!!#hes a lonely avatar and codependence and being seen is what killed him!! HELP#tma#the magnus archives#martin blackwood#jon sims#jmart#jonmartin

A lot of Annabeth's insecurities, most of all around Rachel, stem more from having deep abandonment issues rather than just jealousy.
Think. When her father married and had other kids, she felt as if he had chosen his new family over her. Then, she had Thalia and Luke. Thalia fell in battle and after her return she eventually left to join the hunters, and Luke? He promised Annabeth a family, that he wouldn't fail her, and then he did. He betrayed her and left her, because his hate for the gods was more important that the bond and affection they had for the other.
And then there's Percy, who was annoying when Annabeth met him but after getting to know him she sees that he is funny, kind and brave, and with a heart of gold. He ends up becoming Annabeth's new best friend and she ends up developing romantic feelings for him. But things are complicated. Percy struggles a lot when it comes to talking about his feelings. He has a big destiny ahead of him and could eventually die. And on top of that, Rachel appears! And Annabeth is jealous. Yeah, she is, she is a teenage girl. But also is mostly scared. Because everyone else in her life eventually leaves her, chooses something or someone over her, and she feels like it's going to happen all over again. Percy is either going to make a choice that will get him killed to fulfill his destiny, or he will start dating Rachel and continue growing apart from Annabeth like they'd done for a while after BOTL. Either way, he will end up leaving like everyone else. But the thing is, he survives. And then when he's offered immortality, Annabeth feels like this time is for sure, that he'll choose to be a god, because who wouldn't? That is the obvious choice.
And then he rejects the offer. For many reasons, yeah, because he wanted to help other half-bloods, but also because, as he told Athena, he couldn't leave Annabeth. And Annabeth knew that. Percy could be really bad at talking about feelings but that spoke more than any words. After feeling like no one ever chooses her because there was something or someone more important, Annabeth found herself someone who chose her above anything and anyone else. And anyway that's why I like Percabeth and why they were my first ship.

Kidnapped
Lemme just give my baby boi Bucky all the headpats in the world
Summary: You get kidnapped and Bucky has to rescue you
Your head hurts. Badly. And for once it's not because you drank too much the previous night. Lights begin to focus and the muted voices start to become clearer, unveiling the fact that you're currently tied to a chair and the deep cut on your forehead is currently dripping blood into your eyes.
"Look who's awake. About time." One of the masked people yanks your head upwards by your hair and you grunt at the sudden stab of pain.
"Missed me?" You grin, laughter punched out of your system when a fist strikes your stomach hard. Still, you manage to wheeze a laugh out, even as a fist strikes the back of your head hard, causing your vision to spin. "Missed you all too."
"Shut up and tell us where the Winter Soldier is!" The one whom you assume is their leader based on his mask's unique marking grabs your chin, lifting your head so that your gaze meets theirs.
"You want me to shut up or tell you where he is? You've gotta choose one —" You're flung to the side along with your chair, the floor slamming into your already injured side. Blood splatters onto the concrete floor from your coughing and you hear heavy footsteps stomping nearby.
Amateurs. They're terrible at extracting information and it's making you laugh at how pathetic they are. Unfortunately you can't enjoy the show as much as you'd like to because of all the pain you're in but at least there's some show to alleviate it. You focus on your breathing, centering yourself. You have to keep a clear mind, backup will be here soon so all you have to do is buy time. Even without your earpiece, you know that reinforcements will show up at some point. Hopefully before you actually die from your injuries.
You know that Bucky will come storming to your rescue. Probably.
It is rather ironic that your kidnappers only need to continue holding you hostage to find the person they're looking for instead of trying to beat his whereabouts out of you. The pain is getting rather annoying, especially considering how long your injuries will take to heal. This is going to put you out of commission for about a month, and the thought of being stuck in the house for a month is scaring you far more than your kidnappers could ever do.
The floor is rather cold, freezing to the touch really and you would like to not be in contact with the floor, but your kidnappers don't seem to share your sentiment since they keep squatting down to yell at you.
"It's better for your knees if you put my chair upright so you don't have to keep squatting down to talk to me. Also do keep your voice down, I'm not deaf you know." There are times where you curse your witty tongue, this is one of those times.
One moment you're on your side, lying on the floor. The next moment you're sent flying into a wall, the chair nothing but splinters in a pile underneath you. Fingers dig into the soft flesh of your throat, squeezing the air out of your lungs. You kick the air, struggling instinctively and dig your fingernails into the arm as hard as you can. which is not very hard considering how much air and blood you're losing. Black spots begin to crowd your vision and you're about to send an apology to your boyfriend for being the sassy idiot that you are when suddenly your body collapses to the floor, lungs heaving as they gulp down as much oxygen as they possibly can.
Coughing, you massage your throat. The bruises are going to be ugly, and Bucky is probably going to explode upon seeing your injuries. You would feel bad for your kidnappers if it wasn't for the fact that they nearly killed you and ruined your nice little record of not getting kidnapped.
"I will not ask again. Where is the Winter Soldier?" The leader roars, slamming you against the wall.
"You know, it's a bit hard to talk when it's kinda hard to breathe." You hit his arm. "Also, I believe he's right behind you."
A loud thud echoes in the now empty room as a metal fist collides with flesh and the leader crumples to the floor at the feet of a furious super soldier. You lean against the wall, panting as you push your hair out of your eyes, wincing when you accidentally touch the wound on your forehead.
"Took you…long enough." You huff, looking up at Bucky.
"Maybe I wouldn't have to do this if you didn't get captured." He scowls, kicking the leader's now unconscious body.
"Try intentionally walking into an ambush by yourself and let me know if you get out alive." You grit your teeth, using the wall to stand up despite all the ringing in your ears and the blurriness in your vision. Your head is starting to hurt worse, and all the blood you're spilling onto the floor probably isn't helping either.
"Well, you're alive right now aren't you?" Bucky scoops you up. "So don't go dying on me or I'll have to clean up your messes too."
"Don't recall having too many messes for you to clean," you tiredly mumble into his chest. Your eyelids feel heavy, black starting to cloud your vision and you want nothing more than to close your eyes and sleep forever but Bucky keeps jostling you, snapping you awake with every step he takes. "You make a terrible groom, can't even carry your bride properly."
"My bride needs to stay awake or they'll die." He frowns, purposely shaking you. "I mean it."
"Try not to sound like you actually care about me or I might start believing it."
Bucky simply grunts, definitely out of annoyance and continues the way too long walk out of the building, jostling you all the way. Your fingers clutch at his shirt tightly as you take in the sights before you, realising that Bucky had single-handedly fought his way in just to get to you.
"Can't believe you didn't invite me for this party. Seemed fun." You groan.
"Wasn't so fun knowing the only person I can tolerate on missions could die before I reached them." He murmurs, worry sparking in his ice blue eyes.
"Tolerate? Pretty sure I make for better company than that." You weakly poke him in the shoulder, giving him a glare that doesn't quite reach your eyes.
"Dream on, doll." The sound of a jet landing drowns out the rest of his words and he carries you inside, laying you out on a stretcher so that the doctor can tend to your wounds. You give him the finger as he turns to leave and he throws one back over his shoulder.
"Don't miss me too much while I'm gone, doll." With that, he disappears into the cockpit and leaves you with the doctor.
"As if I'd miss that bastard," you mutter to yourself, finally closing your eyes and drift off to sleep, ignoring the way your heart clenches at the thought of Bucky fighting his way through the base just to rescue you.
When you wake, you're back somewhere in Avengers Tower, bandages decorating your head and chest. You partially recall this place being the medbay, and judging from the look on Bruce's face your wounds aren't that bad, at least not now.
"Hey," you croak.
"Welcome back," Bruce smiles. "How are you feeling?"
"Like I got slammed into a wall multiple times."
"That's not far off. You'll be back in the field in give or take one month, don't worry." He hands you a glass of water which you accept gratefully.
"Where's Bucky?" The question slips out before you can stop yourself.
"Missed me that much, doll?" Speak of the devil and he shall appear. The brunette walks in with the largest smirk you've seem him make, automatic door sliding close behind him.
"Was asking so I could avoid seeing your ugly mug so soon." You bury yourself back underneath the blanket, ensuring that the fabric covered your face.
"How unfortunate that I chose to walk in now." He takes a seat next to your bed, quietly signalling to Bruce for time alone with you. Bruce nods, slipping out of the room and Bucky lets out a sigh. "Doll?"
You make not a single peep, not even when Bucky pokes you through the blanket so he takes matters into his own hands and yanks the blanket off you. You yelp, hands scrambling to pull the blanket back but the super solider is faster and tosses the blanket onto the table behind him before folding his arms over his chest.
"What?" You scowl, mimicking his actions.
"I didn't know your idiocy had no limits." His brows furrow. "What were you thinking, springing that trap with no escape plan? Were you looking to die?"
"If I was, it was a very unsuccessful attempt." You roll your eyes, turning over so that your back faces him.
"Be honest with me." He turns you over, grip softening when he realises how much he's hurting you but he doesn't let go.
"I wasn't trying to die, okay? But if I did, well…" You look away, hating at how your chest constricts when you see the pain in his eyes. "Would've been fine."
"It wouldn't have been!" He snaps. "It's not fine if you just go off and die!"
"Right," you mutter, playing with the sheets. Tears are beginning to form in the corners of your eyes, and you refuse to let him see your weakness. Biting down hard on your bottom lip, you try to push your emotions down before they can overwhelm you but the tears keep coming anyways. Dammit.
"Doll I —" He takes a deep breath. "I don't want to see you to die, alright? Or at least I don't want to see you die before me."
You lie there in silence, tears still streaming down your face and staining the pillow beneath. Fist clenching, you stifle a sob. Shit, you really don't want to crumble in front of Bucky of all people.
"You…matter. A lot. To me." Bucky forces the words out, but his gaze is soft, and so is his touch. His fingertips gently press against your skin, little spots of warmth amidst the sudden chill that has set in. "So don't go dying on me, alright?"
"Only if you make the same promise." You mumble and his eyes brighten. Giving you a genuine smile, he leans in to press a kiss to your forehead.
"Deal. Now get all the rest you need, I'll always be here."
"If you're expecting a 'thank you', I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed." You give his cheek a poke.
"You're welcome." He grins, ruffling your hair. He grabs the blanket, tucking you in with it. "Heal up, or I'll have to go on missions by myself and that would be boring."
"Well, can't have a bored super soldier now, can we?" You smile back at him, grabbing his hand. "Hold on."
He huffs in annoyance, but his eyes say otherwise. "Won't be letting go any time soon, doll."
