But the apple appears and he's blinking at it and, finally, it clicks, and he's all "BABY! B-BABY! IT'S A BABY HHHOHHHHH MY GOD" and he's like EXCITED but also just like. Do you think he'd get a little biblical drooling about 'your womb being blessed' or some shit. I feel like, genuinely the only way Lucifer would mistreat the Reader is completely unintentionally, like he has a bout of depression and neglects you a little, or he becomes socially withdrawn and you think he doesn't like you but really he's just feeling sad or working on something that's really important to him. I mean. This is BESIDES the possibility of confinement but that's for your protection and it's not like you're in PRISON. This guy is clearly packed with goofy loving positive energy. He'll be taking you to the circus and to musicals with his daughter like you've always been a member of the family, getting you your own special throne to sit beside his own. He's having audience with like some wretched soul, there are flames, he's being TERRIFYING, telling them how they've betrayed him and he's going to tear their soul to pieces and sentencs them to eternal suffering, and then he turns to you, "I'm sorry am I making it too hot in here shnookums 🥰 I don't wanna make you and our lil hellion uncomfy 🥰" like.... truly, you got yourself a man that can do both

More Lodgers! I think Mosley is my favorite of this batch, both pose and design-wise. I'm drawing them in order of introduction, and it's almost like a cool little Easter egg hunt looking for different angles and full-body panels of characters that don't show up a ton.

Thoughts under the cut again

Back at it again with the goggles and gloves! Except for Mr. Griffin which is interesting. Could be for lots of reasons, like pulling descriptions from The Invisible Man, or maybe his work doesn't require a lot of physical risk, or maybe they just didn't want all the Lodgers to feel too samey. He's still aligned with the Lodgers aesthetically through the apron, which Bird also wears. Neat! I'm very entertained by the different types of eyewear too. Some have goggles, some have binoculars, and some have layers of magnifiers like jeweler's glasses (of course I always think of the Toy Story 2 scene). I'm sure some of them have super specialized equipment too, like Maijabi probably has some sort of spectral filter lens or something.

God what I would give to pick Sage Cotugno's brain about some of these designs because I am fascinated by Mosley. They technically didn't have to go through and give each lodger such a strong sense of personality but I adore that they did! Mosley in particular reminds me of Mole from Atlantis, with the scarf and the multi-layered goggles and the digging. And Helsby wouldn't be out of place at the Benbow Inn! Know that I mean this as incredibly high praise, I could talk about the designs in Treasure Planet for days. Point is that both those movies have an incredibly strong visual identity, primarily through the character designs and architecture, and this comic feels the same way to me.

My personal favorite rogue scientist is next up! I love her design so much and I'm so excited to draw her. Also, how in the hell do you end up with "make spy bugs" as your job?? And where can I sign up?? Miss Flowers please

Overall, this was definitely my favorite episode so far! The team is getting better each and every episode! SOOO much happened here!! I'm super excited to see what happens next!!

Okay, THEORY TIME!!

-Okay so to start lightly, so far, all the episodes we've seen contain:

-Okay, Alot of people have been talking about Jax being an NPC, and I wanna bring up my opinion on this:

As I mentioned earlier, he always breaks the 4th wall, witch could be seen as a character in a game being like "What do YOU think?" *Insert Game Options here*

I saw another theory saying that if this is true, Jax might be self aware or sentient to some degree, and This is why he tortures everyone. He knows that this world Revolves around the players and nit him so he wants to make them more miserable.

As one of many Caine angst connisuars on this platform, I really enjoyed this scene...

Caine knows that he only exists to make adventures and if he can't do it well enough than he serves ZERO purpouse and his existence is useless... (he's just like me fr)

This has SO MUCH POTENTIAL FOR A SERIES FINALE.

Since in each episode we've (mostly) seen a character being comforted (mostly Either Pomni being comforted OR someone being comforted BY Pomni)

What if the last episode had Caine and Pomni having a heart to heart?

(Shutup this is not about showtime I swear let me have this-)

Someone abstracts, (Ragatha or Kinger probably,) and it's Caine's last straw. He finally breaks and the circus goes into ruins. Pomni does her best to comfort him. This could go one of two ways:

Either she sucseeds and happy ending for everyone :D

OR, they fail and The Circus is destroyed, Taking Caine down with it.

Maybe then that would be how they escape cuz if Caine is emotionaly attached to the circus, it would be completely destroyed or erased if Caine finally broke...

The angst potential is crazy...

In future film adaptations of the HP series, DH is the one book I'm happy for future filmmakers to "mess around" with as much as they like to improve the visual / story experience for all the reasons you mentioned. I'm very happy for them to do a somewhat Twilight film Breaking Dawn-esque departure. Like, instead of focusing on the trio in the woods the whole time, let's get into what the Order are up to, let's show our friends keeping the DA alive at Hogwarts, let's show the other muggleborns having to go into hiding, let's flash over to Draco suffering the worst house guests ever... like we have this expansive cast of characters, let's not waste them for the extended camping trip from hell... also the best part of HP is the wizarding world itself, so many amazing magical set pieces in the world... and we spend the last book mostly in the forest...

Speaking of which, with there being a new series adaptation in the works (with rumours of potentially more HP series to come... perhaps even a Lily Potter / Marauders/ Snape based one...) is there anything you're excited about finally seeing adapted from canon or are terrified of potentially seeing butchered onscreen?

Yeah like and also it isn't even an INTERESTING forest. Like the "children wander into the enchanted forest and face [insert monstrous metaphor for adulthood]" is one of the oldest fairytales in recorded history, with a ton of creepy lore to draw on — you could have had the kids running through mystical haunted forests of ancient Britain! Running into the ghosts of Roman soldiers and Celtic ruins and magical creatures! Forest of Dean could have been COOL.

To your other point: I'd much prefer a Marauders series to a remake of the original. I'm of the not-unpopular opinion that the HP movies are as good as any adaptation of any book can get (save probably the Lord of the Rings movies) in terms of how they balance story structure, fidelity to the text, and onscreen pacing. The cinematography decreases sharply in energy and verve after Alfonso Cuarón, and the later movies unfortunately suffer from the mid-2000s trend of desaturating the frame, but they're solid movies and like — okay, in my heart of hearts, there's a little part of me that's like. Daniel Radcliffe will always be my Harry. I grew up with Rupert Grint and Emma Watson and Tom Felton, and seeing someone else in those roles will never hit me like it did to see eleven-year-old Hermione Granger alive for the first time on that screen. Which is not a real reason. But there you go.

There's also the problem of the genre pivot — the first few movies are obviously children's films, and a whole generation of millennials got to grow up as they gradually changed to Y/A films. But how many children are going to be watching a full season of a HBO miniseries? And how many adults are going to watch that miniseries and then complain it was underwhelming because, again, it's a children's series? It would be better, in my opinion, to start over with the Marauders, whom you can write into adventures that more naturally fit the pacing of a TV show. You can also start with them at like, age 14, which would solve the problem of years 1-3 essentially being about kids in middle school. Unlike HP, nothing happens that we know of in the first 3 years of the Marauders Era that's plot-essential, so strong writing in the pilot and a carefully chosen flashback or two could easily set the stage for a series starting in Year 4.

What I'm nervous about is the contingent of fandom that would expect it to be essentially a TV adaptation of All the Young Dudes, which — while it's an all-time legendary work of fanfiction, like all-time, incredible, wonderful story — does not much resemble what I think HBO writers' room would come up with. ATYD is a slice-of-life bildungsroman about Remus Lupin, and most of its stakes come through emotional tension — you can really easily transplant it outside of a magical setting, and you lose almost nothing. A Marauders show would be an action-adventure series modeled after the Harry Potter books, and it would need an episode-by-episode plot. In ATYD, Remus's development is the engine powering the story. That's not enough in a television series pitching itself as an action-adventure fantasy story, and I don't think the HBO team would be bold enough to depart from genre in this respect. After the failure of Fantastic Beasts, the execs are probably going to clock "Harry Potter show without Harry Potter in it" as a major business risk. Sowhile I'm open-minded and eager to see what the creatives would come up with, I wouldn't envy them the job of having to build out new personalities and arcs for characters that fans have already grown quite attached to their self-designed interpretations of.

It strikes me, too, that Rowling has never gone back to the Marauders as a potential vein for more books, even though she easily could have. She clearly doesn't mind dabbling in the HP universe, and the Fantastic Beasts movies show she's happy to bring the audience back to Hogwarts when she wants to. But for some reason, Harry's parents has always been a little too close to the original series, and I think maybe there's something in her that's afraid of revisiting that period — like if she fucks it up, she's damaging something directly connected to the books that made her famous, cheapening them. Or maybe she just doesn't want to write those stories. Who knows!

I do know that the most important name in that show would be the writing credit, because JKR has demonstrated (1) she isn't great at writing original stories for the screen, and (2) it's really easy to fuck up the pacing of a TV show, and if you don't get the pacing of Harry Potter, then you're not going to adapt it well. The HP books are essentially mystery novels that turn into spy novels. If you don't have that — if you think you're writing a high-fantasy epic from the jump, as the Fantastic Beasts writers seemed to believe, and as the Cursed Child writers seemed to believe — then you're going to write something that doesn't feel like Harry Potter, and most people will notice, even if they don't understand why.

My mom liked it as well???? She came with me because I didn't want to subject any of my irl friends to my tf rambling and she didn't want me to go alone fbfkfbkd I thought she wouldn't, but SHE LIKED IT.

Okay so first off: going into the theatre, I was so so afraid that I was going to have the same thought I had after watching Puss and Boots: The First Wish, which was- "I REALLY liked that, and it would have been one of my favorite movies if I was still a child." (Still a really good movie!!)

BUT I DIDN'T HAVE THAT. I JUST REALLY LOVE THE MOVIE FULL STOP.

Anyway, onto my wild rambling.

The visuals were superb!! Gorgeous. No notes. Freaking amazing animation and character design and world design !!!!! I'LL COME BACK TO THAT I COULD YELL FOREVER ABT WORLDBUILDING. The characterisation is so so good, so tasty.

Also because I'm a huge honkin nerd...

The movie is largely focused on the dynamic between Orion Pax/Optimus Prime and D-16/Megatron, but the other characters also shine through really well, and they show off a lot personality even with the ones with very few scenes. Elita-One is a fucking delight I wanna kiss her!!!!!!! She's so cool and pragmatic and it SHOWS in what she does and how she acts. She IS better than you, and she knows it. Even Starscreams confident yet cowardly nature is shown with him lounging on a throne and slinking off after his fight with D-16, and he's barely there!!! RAHAGGHHH I love what you can do with characterisation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also my god this movie was funny. Even when the pacing is fast it's a GOOD fast. Comedic moments are used really well in this, and it flips smoothly between that and the more serious and heartfelt bits.

AND HRHFJFJDK okay so maybe its just my sense of humor, but I found Bee to be really really really funny. He's just like me for real!!! Talks too much, excited as HELL about everything!!!!!!!!! HE'S JUST LIKE ME. I also told my mom this and she was like. "Yes! He is jist like you!! He talks a lot. You would do the knife-hands thing. Also, you're wearing yellow." And. I was. I am. hrhfjfjfkkghdk 💛💛 Shockwave in this movie is ALSO very funny. He gets punched <3 Many other characters also get punched, but he complains about it. He reminds me somewhat of TF Animated Shockwave but less intimidating sgdjfbdjfbdmfbmd

Speaking of characters... Airachnid was so pretty. I love her design so much!!!! She's alien and COOL and I love her!!!!! She has so many eyes... (I'd ALSO love to know more about what her deal is. But... her lack of a motive/story is made up infinitely by strong screen presence and personality) Sentinel was ALSO very pretty and I loved seeing him on screen but I (spoilers) loved seeing him get ripped in half more. Those were LOVELY shots.

I brought my mini Soundwave along with me!! I liked Soundwave in the movie even if he didn't play a big part <33 The "there sure are a lot of waves" joke was VERY funny because I had the exact same thought moments before.

There are a LOT of cameos in the film and I kept going "AHHHHH [CHARACTER]". I get why they didn't add more as main characters- there were a loooooot of characters running around already, and only 2 hours!! Even so, I still wish we saw more of the other characters that cameoed (JAZZ!!!!!! MY BOYYYY!! I WAS SO SCARED THEY'D KILL HIM OFF) or had minor appearances because I just. I want to know what they'd do with the characterisation........ but that's what fanfic for for ig ehfjfhdk,,

And on the topic of lovely shots, theres a series of scenes near the end of the movie with no dialogue, only music and sound and. It's SO good. It's so impactful and beautiful and ausuaiaiurhrgh...

The whole movie is inherently sort of a tragedy since it's a prequel. We all know how it ends; what these characters become. But the build up to that is so SO good. I loved the character progression- D-16'S PROGRESSION TO BECOMING MEGATRON IS!!! AHHHHH!! I loved seeing him shift from one perspective to another and they made it believable.

His anger and betrayal giving way to violence- there's this one bit shortly after they are given the ability to transform where you See that violence in D-16 fir the first time, and it's shot so starkly in comparison to the other characters (who also fight to get away) and it's just like. Oh. There's the potential for something dangerous there.

It is so so interesting to me to see how that violence is framed in comparison to the others- all three of the other protags have their moments of violence- Elita-One is very very intimidating and used violence/threats to get her way, and Bee has this lightheartedness/innocence to his violence... Orion Pax is just. he's doing what needs to be done, he takes no joy from the destruction- he's fighting back, but I think most importantly all of them know when to stop.

There are the fights and punches that get thrown around, and then there is D-16 wailing on Starscream. Megatron RIPPING SENTINEL IN HALF. God that scene was good.

Anyway, sometimes in media a character goes through a Big Event that changes or breaks them, but here? There is no breaking point for D-16/Megatron. It's a slow spiralling descent and you see him taking one step after another, deciding to continue down this path. This is shown in a more literal way with his eyes slowly changing colour through the movie (fucking SICK SHOTS!!!!!!!) but there are a dozen more moments where you can see him decide who he is becoming.

IT WAS REALLY GOOD, I LOVE SHIT LIKE THAT.

And as audience!! Though we know this change is inevitable!! (This is an event in the past- the end of this is already written!!!) It's still tragic!! I feel for him!! I want him to keep getting back up in the face of Sentinel's cruelty!!!!!!!!!!

Orion watching his friend change, seeing them grow further apart... and he still hangs onto that hope right up until the end (and even after that!!!!!! He banishes him, because he will not kill him!!)

imo, they did Orion Pax/Optimus Prime really well in this one- he gets into a lot of trouble and it somehow works out. I think they do really well in making him feel down to earth in this- he's punchy and dynamic and has this unwavering respect for the people around him, but he's also good at being tricky and manipulative to get interesting outcomes that nobody else could have considered- he knows how people tick on an individual level and he knows how to use that. He thinks differently, and it's fantastic. Most importantly, Orion can see something nobody else can: a world where things are better.

Orion becoming Optimus... ough. aough. It's so!!!!!! AHHH. I loved all of the sequences that follow after. When his signature axe made an appearance I was so excited it was REALLY COOL. ALL OF IT WAS SO COOL.

The fight choreography is FANTASTIC and while it was a little messy at times (so much... going on........) it was fluid and dynamic and mwah mwah mwah I love it.

ALSO I SAID I'D YELL ABOUT WORLDBUILDING but this is really really long already so like. I'll keep it short as I can

The glimpses of the society that exists is FASCINATING to me. We don't get to see much of it, because our main characters are purely of the lower classes, so what's available to us is quite limited, but the class structure is INTERESTING to me. Unlike IDW, where form dictates function, this universe is driven (ha. ha.) on the idea that some Cybertronians can't transform (and thus work in the lower classes, as miners and waste management etc.) but as it turns out, (spoilers) they actually get their transformation cogs removed before they come online. And like... I can't help but wonder how they pick who gets that treatment?? Luck???? I'm dying to know.

ALSO I really like the Quintessons (sad they're not the the horrible five faced creature things. I wanna see the Weirdos!!!!) but I still think these fuck hard. They're really buggy and organic and cool (I adore their ship designs holy shiiiiiiiiit- just yesterday I was admiring all the bugs and monsters and crabby things in Guild Wars 2, and now THIS?? BLESSED.) And the CYBERTRONIAN DEER ARE COOL!!!!!!!!!! I like them. That's all. I wished we got to see more of the bio-mechanical parts of the planet...

AND AND THE PLANET ITSELF HOLY SHIT AHHHHHH!!!!! The city is gorgeous- the spires going up and down is mwah amazing. The roads and rails appearing/disappearing as they are used? PEAK. The MINES and the surface of Cybertron. They're shifting, moving, alive. I legit was staring slackjawed when they were in the mines- it's just SO COOL to watch!!!

OKAY. IM DONE NOW.

MAJOR Shadow of the Erdtree Spoilers!!!

Alright I need to get this out, so here goes.

Promised Consort might be the single most conflicting boss in Fromsoft for me, and I need to talk about it. Firstly, I want to say in full honesty that I don't really mind it from a narrative standpoint. As much as I would have loved to see Godwyn get his time to shine, seeing Radahn in his prime, especially after he got beaten out quite hard by 4 other bosses in base game when he used to be my favorite after some consideration, is very cool and I don't personally think it assassinates either of the 2 characters involved, as it doesn't contradict or invalidate Miquella's previous actions nor does anything point strongly towards Radahn willingly being involved in this. However, one complaint I do have is that Mohg's involvement feels quite irrelevant and ignored by both the fanbase (aside from the dedicated Mohg club) and the game. Promised Consort has a couple horns slapped onto his arms and a SINGLE move that is reminiscent of Mohg, that's it. No shared weakness, no cool wings or scales or anything, hell, why not make Mohg's shackle work to make this difficult fight a little bit less over the top. On that note, I would like to address the fight. Aside from a wonky hitbox or two, I think, on paper, Promised Consort has a very solid and fair moveset in Phase 1 that's fun to learn and exploit, even if the openings do feel aggressively tight. Phase 2 on the other hand...Why? Why, instead of giving this conceptually sound and interesting boss an actually new moveset do you just slap frankly annoying AoEs and weird Dragon Ball bullshit ass afterimage attacks and the ability to fucking toast your CPU on what could have easily been the best final boss fight in Souls thus far if you had just TRIED. Many people have expressed they feel as though Promised Consort doesn't "try" narratively, that he's just a cheap, shoehorned attempt at fanservice like Soul of Cinder What who said that instead of providing an actual final boss to cap off the narrative, and I don't fully agree with this even if I did find the ending cutscene a bit underwhelming. But I do feel as though Promised Consort isn't trying to actually be challenging in a fair and fun way. Just kinda, overtuned. Aggressive. Unfair. I had my fun with the boss, no doubt, but I didn't feel good about beating it, especially not after the only way out I saw was summoning a tanky spirit who drew all the aggro while I tried to do literally anything in Phase 2, when no other boss in the DLC or in the game at all has ever made me that desperate (Note that i don't mind summons in general but don't personally enjoy using them as it takes the excitement and rewarding feeling out of a boss fight for me) (Also note that while i am fairly good at this game, I am extremely easily overwhelmed by too many bright visual stimuli as part of my ADHD/Autism, which is part of the reason I struggle with Fortissax and Bayle every now and then, now imagine that but tenfold for Promised Consort). This boss needs some sort of nerf. Not one that completely neuters it, Radahn has had enough of that already, it just needs to be towned down. The speed, the damage, I don't know, hell, toning down the visual clutter of phase 2 would probably be enough, so you could actually SEE what the boss is doing half the time, just do something to not make this fight as unfair as it is now. I don't know if I'll have the same experience I've had with this boss as I did Malenia, where after several attempts that ended in a mere , underwhelming, unrewarding "Glad that's over", to thinking its the worst thing ever to it being my favorite boss, I kinda hope it will, but for the time I can't say I'm excited to fight this boss again.

I have!! sorry this response is coming so late, I was sick this week, but I’ve been really excited to talk more about the latest chapter!!

i really loved this chapter for a lot of reasons, but one thing that really piqued my interest was all the visuals we got that remind me a lot of early broadcasting club scenes!

this clock (?) in the room kou and mitsuba wake up in looks like it's from a similar technological era as/has a similar design to the radio tsukasa and sakura use to spread rumors:

the tendrils covered in eyes coming from amane kind of resemble the eyes on mistuba's school mystery form:

the creatures trying to get mitsuba and kou to leave most prominently only have mouths and hands, which is very similar to the imagery used when sakura and tsukasa turn mitsuba’s ghost into something new using the power of rumors, and of course the hands that help supernatural mitsuba find and contact yashiro

the tea party room is also full of these similar eyes and mouth and hands

i love how similar the red house visuals are to the broadcasting club visuals. it makes me feel like there’s a strong connection between the red house and the school, and the school mysteries specifically. it also makes me wonder if sakura may be connected to the red house, given that she plays such a big role in the rumor spreading and the tea party.

I'm also really interested in the way these creatures in chapter 118 seem to be interested in (supposedly) helping mitsuba specifically... it reminds me of how the hands helped supernatural mitsuba find yashiro

when the two first meet, mitsuba says the hands are "extensions of the school mystery who lives here," ostensibly talking about the hell of mirrors, but what do hands have to do with the hell of mirrors? if anything, don't they have more to do with whatever this space was?

and with tsukasa's design for supernatural mitsuba?

which makes me think the hands have more to do with mitsuba specifically, perhaps because he was made by tsukasa… potentially even made using the red house/enitity’s powers, given all the similarities between the latest red house imagery and mitsuba’s design

the way mitsuba touches the hand so gently and seems to consult it in that panel from the hell of mirrors arc is especially striking. the touch makes it seem like mitsuba almost has a familiar relationship with the hands. it would be so so cool if this meant mitsuba has some sort of connection to the creatures of the red house. it’s not out of the question that ghost mitsuba was warped by the entity’s or the house’s powers when tsukasa and sakura spread his rumor, or that supernatural mitsuba was created with the entity’s or the house’s powers—so it may be possible he has a connection to the red house or any of its current inhabitants in some way!! I think that would be really interesting. anyway here’s how mitsuba can still get out of this alive—

Okay so when I was almost done with it something bugged with tumblr and this post didn’t save, which is why it took me so long to get back to it. But since I left off the last Dressrosa post saying I can’t wait to talk about the things that are coming, let’s get to it

Usopp has been lying his way through most of the arc, generally not believing that he’s able to do anything significant to help. It’s a struggle he’s been having within himself from way back in pre timeskip obviously, but I love how he’s the one to finally stand up when Robin has been turned into a toy and the tontattas need help. He’s still terrified, and he still doesn’t quite believe he can do this, but he will try his best, and because of that, all the toys will finally be freed

Before they get their freedom, we get the Toy Soldier’s story on why he’s so adamant about defeating Doflamingo and protecting Rebecca. As it turns out, he’s Kyros, Rebecca’s father, and his story is incredibly tragic, where despite the toy’s face not moving an inch, you can feel the emotions he’s feeling, and the rain falling down his toy face is a wonderful although sad visual for crying when you physically can’t cry

And then finally, the moment everyone was waiting for, the aftermath of Usopp defeating Sugar (in a hilarious manner). From Doflamingo completely losing his cool when he realizes his entire plan has went to hell, to Kyros turning back into a human and decapitating his clone, to finally, one of my favorite moments in this entire arc: God Usopp. Things getting from ridiculous to more ridiculous here is just amazing, and I like how it keeps you on the edge of your seat, especially first time around, to also give you a few funny moments along the way

Proper introduction of the Revolutionary Army members here! Love their place in the story and I think considering the situation in Dressrosa now was better time than ever to have them really come into play for the story. Love their designs and the reasonings each of them you can figure out to have to be Revs, and of course I’m so happy to see more of Sabo. He’s an incredibly cool character to me and I’m so happy Luffy gets to have at least one older brother out there to look out for him

Back to the main plot, the birdcage is a genius idea. Oda often (if not always) introduces some type of timer for our crew that they can’t pass, and I think the birdcage has been the best idea he had so far. Using Doflamingo’s power to create something that not only locks everybody who knows of his true nature in Dressrosa, but also forces a deadline for everybody because otherwise, the birdcage will kill everyone. It’s also a good metaphor for Doflamingo’s character itself, as he doesn’t care about his subjects, he only wants power and destruction, even if that means killing an entire nation

With all the pieces in place , Luffy (and Law who gets carried around) can finally go after Doflamingo. We get one more moment of interaction between Luffy and Rebecca, with him finally revealing his actual name to her, and making it clear to her that things will work out. I love their friendship, as despite the fact it happened in about a day, they both clearly care so much about each other

One last thing I want to talk about before we get to the main battle of the arc, is Usopp awakening his observation haki. It’s funny that he doesn’t even realise it, but it shows how much he has grown and how much stronger despite his fears he’s gotten, which is such a nice touch in an arc filled with great Usopp moments, I love it

And finally, we get to the top floor starting what has been built up since the beginning of this saga. Everybody (except for Trebol fuck that guy) looks so cool here (and also Bellamy rip man) and it just hypes you up so much for the fight to come. The framing here is great and I love the expressions Oda draws for everyone involved. I’m incredibly excited for the upcoming fight

Whee Fight Scenes! (This Is A Seirei no Moribito Advertisement)

For the past couple of years I have been almost exclusively writing fanfiction for action-fantasy video games which has led to me developing opinions on writing fight scenes. I used to hate writing them because what even happen fight, really, like what the hell??? But now I’ve learned to tolerate them! Sometimes I even enjoy writing them! So now I will share my wisdom with you. 

(Disclaimer: This post was written so I could avoid writing a fight scene.)

My credentials: I occasionally write fight scenes in my action-fantasy video game fanfictions, and I have seen Seirei no Moribito the anime several times. I do not claim to be an expert on fight scenes, but I do claim to love Seirei no Moribito to bits.

Part 1. The Set Up

There’s this excellent anime about a mercenary on a life-long quest for redemption who ends up taking a cursed prince under her protection. It’s about unraveling propaganda and colonialism, and also about kicking ass. The first time I watched this anime, when I got to the episode 3 rice field fight, I thought, “holy shit, I see now that a good fight scene requires not only a kick-ass fight, but also narrative/emotional build up in order to give the scene weight and tension.”

Like, lots of anime have excellent and extremely iconic fights, but this was the show that really made the writing aspect of it stick in my brain. Seirei no Moribito is also an adaptation of a book, which might why this stood out to me: the way its fight scenes are constructed are not as reliant on the actual visuals so much as they are on everything else (the animation for the fight is gorgeous, too, like, just watch this show please it’s so good). That said, I haven’t actually read the book. But I have seen this show several times and the rice field fight gets me so hype.

(And also every other fight scene. I’m never over episode 13. If you have to watch only one (1) episode of Seirei no Moribito, watch episode 13. But also, don’t do that. Watch the entire thing you coward.)

Anyway. What’s going on in Seirei no Moribito episode 3?

Part 1a. The Narrative Stage

Ep3 is early on in the series. The rice field fight is not the first action scene, but it is the first fight scene. This is what we know going in:

Balsa, our main character, is a formidable mercenary with a practical mind and a strong sense of honor. She has sworn to protect Chagum, the prince of the Empire. Her goal is to keep Chagum alive at all costs, because saving his life is crucial to her personal goal of redemption.

The Emperor (Chagum’s father) has dispatched his elite warriors to kill the prince, as they believe that he is possessed by an evil water spirit. Their goal is to kill the prince because the evil water spirit is a bad omen for the empire, and they believe that killing the prince will save the kingdom.

Balsa’s spear is damaged, and she is outnumbered. She has the disadvantage.

We are, of course, rooting for Balsa and Chagum at this point in the story. Balsa’s our main character, she’s super cool, and child assassination is a bad look. We know that Balsa is strong: we’ve seen her do athletic stunts, and it’s been alluded to that she is extremely skilled with the spear. This fight is the first time we get to see her use it, so it’s very exciting to the viewer. We want to see her in action.

Part 1b. The Emotional Stage

Chagum doesn’t have much of a personality at this point: we know he’s a child prince, and we know his dad wants to kill him. So we don’t know him well, but he’s already sympathetic due to circumstance.

When Balsa and Chagum get to the rice fields, they are almost home-free. They’ve spent a lot of effort trying to redirect the emperor’s warriors and the plan almost worked. We are extremely close to safety, so the fact that this is when the emperor’s elite catch up is very tense and frustrating.

All this puts the audience in the mindset of: oh man, they’re so close, I really need Balsa to win! I don’t want the kid die! You can taste the safety, you are almost there—it’s the type of tension that gets you invested in the outcome of the fight.

Part 1c. The Physical Stage

The first half, and the faster-paced portion of the fight takes place in a rice field at night (a classic). Wide open, with water to splash in, and nowhere to hide. It’s right on the edge of the thick forest, which gives Balsa and Chagum an immediate goal: get to the denser terrain so that they might break line of sight of their pursuers.

The second half of the fight is less of a fight and more of a close-up, emotional moment of action. It takes place in a clearing by the edge of the forest.

The physical location of the fight ties in with the short-term goals of the characters: the open field forces Balsa into direct confrontation even though she wants to run, and the clearing by the edge of the forest gives Jin (one of the emperor’s warriors) the illusion of privacy when he tries to kill Chagum, and it gives Balsa cover to hide until she can intervene.

Part 1 – TL;DR

Even before you get to the actual fight, the setup of the fight has inherent tension and intrigue. One can reasonably assume that Balsa and Chagum will survive, because this is episode 3 of a 26 episode anime. But you don’t know if her damaged spear will hold out. You don’t know why the emperor wants Chagum dead. You don’t know if Balsa will kill the emperor’s guards, or if she’ll be able to make a clean getaway with the prince. All these uncertainties create mystery, which creates tension. And tension is what makes the fight fun.

Part 2. The Purpose

I mentioned earlier that this is the first actual fight in the show.

It’s the payoff for a bunch of little questions that have cropped up so far. How strong is Balsa? Is she good enough to win, even when outnumbered? What does her fighting style look like?

A lot of action stories have big fight early on, and that’s because a well-done fight scene squeezes in a massive amount of characterization. In this fight, we learn a lot about Balsa, and we learn a lot about the Emperor and the difference between the Emperor and the people who work for him.

Some questions that get explored: How do they think under pressure? What kind of fighting do they do? Are they strategic? Reactive? Brute force or trickster? How do they solve problems? How far are these people willing to go to achieve their goals?

There’s a moment in this fight when Balsa is wounded, and the emperor’s warriors retrieve Prince Chagum. Balsa ends up retreating into the forest. Jin says something along the lines of: she’s a mercenary, she works for money and she’s already been paid; she won’t risk her life to come back and get the prince.

But she does. Even though she’s been wounded, and even though she had the perfect opportunity to walk away, she comes back and saves Prince Chagum at the expense of her own health. Balsa keeps her promises; Balsa’s personal quest for redemption is more important to her than her life. We know her, now!

Fight scenes are great for characterization because it’s a deviation from status quo. A person’s default state is not “battle,” and stories thrive on extraordinary circumstances. “How does this character change/act/perform under pressure?” is a really great characterization question, and a fight scene is the opportunity to show the answer rather than tell it.

Fight scenes are also great for thematic debate. You get the opportunity to literalize the conflict between different philosophies via characters fighting each other. EZ story moment. You know that one Howard Ashman quote about how, in musicals, the characters sing when they’re too emotional to speak? That’s what fight scenes are to me. The characters fight when they can’t talk to each other.

And then, of course, a fight scene is also moving the plot along. The conflict is happening, information is being exchanged/discovered/buried. Some characters life, some characters get hurt, some characters die. A fight scene is a way to physically bring characters to the state they need to be in for the story to progress (in the right emotional state, the right physical state, the right location, etc). Lots of things going on, which is good—you want all of your scenes to be purposeful.

Part 3. The Details

All of that had to do with the zoomed-out, overall story view of the fight (how the fight fits into the overall story). I am now going to continue to gush about the episode 3 rice field fight up close (how does the fight scene work in isolation). Because Seirei no Moribito rocks.

Part 3a. The Setting

I already mentioned the open rice field/dense forest dichotomy and how that affects the characters’ short-term goals. It’s also a great choice to establish Balsa’s superior technical ability with her spear. The rice field is wide open and relatively flat—no obstructions or distractions, with everyone on equal ground. There are no tricks to pull, no environmental quirks to exploit: this is a clean fight between Balsa and the emperor’s warriors. When she comes out on top, it’s because she’s better than them.

Depending on the character, it might be better to change the terrain. Have the stealthy warrior fight in a forest, where they can appear and reappear and use their sneakiness to their advantage. Put a trickster in a situation where they can improvise traps. There is an aspect of your character that you want to show off, so set the stage so that they can show off. It’ll be totally badass and fun.

Part 3b. The Short-Term Goals

When you read a story, you can reasonably assume that the protagonist will stay alive (especially if you are not near the end of the story). Knowing the outcome can make a story stale if you're not careful. You can lose tension if there’s no risk. Some stories try to create a world/tone/atmosphere so that anyone can die. A lot don’t because that’s a little depressing.

My friend @yellowocaballero has an excellent post on this regarding OP protagonists, but to summarize: if you know the protagonist is always going to win the physical fight, you have to make the win condition not about that. Balsa isn’t OP, but giving characters goals beyond “win the fight” can make a fight so much more interesting.

In the rice field fight, Balsa does not have to defeat the emperor's warriors: she has to get Chagum and herself away alive. Her goal is to make a clean getaway. When the warriors show up, she makes the decision to confront them, and her goal is not just to win, but to win so decisively that they won’t be able to follow her. When Chagum gets caught, she changes her goal to ‘keep him safe at all costs, no matter the harm done to myself’, and she gets seriously wounded. She can succeed in some goals, but fail in others, and the story reacts and keeps changing. It’s the same principle behind why rolling a nat 1 is so entertaining in D&D. The more you fail, the more creative you have to get. 

Part 3c. Monkey Brain

There is just something so cool and so satisfying and so fun about seeing a character kick ass. There is also something very cool and very satisfying about seeing a character get beat up. The rice field fight has it all: Balsa kicking ass, and also getting beat up. It’s fun! Fight scenes that know exactly why they are cool are just so good. Hell yeah, overindulge and use every single weapon despite how impractical they are. Yes please show someone pulling off an unrealistic move for the coolness factor. Absolutely include the explosion-that-would-definitely-kill-but-doesn’t. 

Part 3 — TL;DR 

If you want the fight to be cool, make it cool! Set it in a cool place! Give your characters opportunities to show off! Make it interesting by changing the win conditions! Conflicting goals forces characters to prioritize and it makes scenes fun!

Part 4. Words???

Unfortunately, as mentioned, Seirei no Moribito is an anime and I haven’t read the book so I cannot analyze and gush about its prose in this section. Otherwise, the advertisement would continue. You’re safe for the moment.

Re: prose, there’s probably a post out there that goes over the language of fight scenes better than I ever could. I write with the diction of a middle-grade author because I read PJatO too much as a child and it rewrote my DNA. This is not a bad thing, this is just a fact. So I’m just gonna fire off fight scene writing advice I heard from around:

Filter words — if you want a more immersive reading experience, you want to avoid filtering the action through the narration. So use sentences like: “Her arm hurt” as opposed to “she felt her arm hurt”. But if you’re trying to distance the reader, like recreating the feeling of shock/dissociation, then filter words would help achieve that effect.

Make the rhythm of your prose match the energy of the fight. Short and choppy feels fast in the brain. Long and wordy feels overwhelming. Fragmented sentences and run-ons are chaotic. Customize the vibes.

Establish the important details of the setting beforehand so that you don’t have to stop the action to describe the specific placement of a relevant tree stump. I think I heard this one from Brandon Sanderson on a podcast somewhere, but I think about it a lot when I write because blocking is hard enough and it's even harder when you have to stop and attempt to translate the movie in your head into words. I can’t tell you how to block a fight scene. We need to find someone else who is smarter that can tell us.

Part 5. The Point

Fight Scenes are Fun, actually. They can be really effective if you set them up properly! If you know what you want to do with them, you can arrange it to be as cool as possible! You don’t have to be in a visual medium to make fights fun. You just have to figure out how to translate the cool bits into prose, which I think is mostly done through giving your fight cool shit on both the macro story level scale and the micro scene level scale.

How I feel about this character

I love this smug, workaholic, one hell of a butler~ He's powerful but not undefeatable, so there are stakes, and his character development between being summoned and the school arc (I stopped reading right around the whole popstars thing, but want to get back into it eventually) is great. It feels earned and natural and the way his relationship with Ciel has grown makes me flail a bit.

I think Sebastian would have sex with other characters for a variety of reasons (like he did with Beast, if I remember that correctly...) but not necessarily attach any romantic emotions to the act. But when it comes to affection and intimacy, it's gotta be Ciel.

I might be misinterpreting this, but I'm taking it to mean a "best bros" sort of relationship, which means Agni. Insofar as Sebastian respects anyone, I think he respects Agni (professionally and personally, to a degree).

My unpopular opinion about this character

Ooo... do I have any Sebastian hot takes? I'm not as involved in the Kuro fandom to know what's en vogue. I'm not a big fan of the first two seasons of the anime -- full-stop, but also for what they did to Sebastian's character. He's much more one-dimensional than I find him to be in the manga, where he can be very funny and goofy and still serious and cool. And while I think I'd enjoy watching the more recent anime season(s) more than the originals, I do miss his ikemen style appearance. He suits the sharper features, imho.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I doubt it'd ever happen, but I hope there's a kiss between Sebastian and Ciel at some point. (But at the same time I don't? I don't need it to happen to validate my ship or make it canon, it'd be more for the visuals :3 ) Maybe they can slip it in by having Sebastian have to mouth-feed Ciel an antidote, or that's how he steals Ciel's soul or something. I have faith that if any mangaka could find a way to include a joke-y kiss between their two protags, Yana Toboso would.

Unsouled Sizzle Reel - FIRST LOOK!

Cradle Sizzle Reel First Look!

First of all. Holy shit I'm so excited this is so cool and I can't way to see if fully animated. This is going to be killer for Will and Jay to show to studios.

Second. This isn't even the full sizzle reel. Jay and Will have talked about what all will be going into the reel and this isn't even half of it.

Third: This is essentially what we'll be getting at the first goal of the Kickstarter, except 80 whole minutes of it. 80 minutes of this covering Unsouled and Soulsmith. Its going to be amazing. And 80 minutes of this to show to studios is going to be an even stronger pitch.

Also though, like, what a genius decision to show these snippets through the lens of Suriel showing Lindon a possible future. What a fantastic delivery method for visual medium.

I'm excited and I only wish I could give more to the Kickstarter. I'm happy to know that Cradle is getting fully animated no matter what though. Once Jay and co have polished this up to the standards of their other work, there is no chance in hell that they won't be able to find someone willing to pick this up.

"Let's get evertything ready", Mason exclaimed

Making calls to the hotel's restaurant and a cafeteria nearby, and assuring that the food and bevarages that they ordered will be there, Mason left five minutes before you were supposed to be there, leaving him alone with Butters who was having a nap between the pillows on his bed

Organizing the room, the door was knocked which he was quick to go answer revealing you on the other side wearing a light orange crewneck with black leggings and Corpse Bride no-show socks with black crocs, with your phone, charger and baby dragon Jake in your arms

"Hi", you smiled

"Hi", Jack did the same opening more the door, "Come in"

Since that first date at the amusement part, both of you started to hang out more in different types of dates alone or with the rest of the crew, so spending time in each others rooms wasn't weird

"I hope you don't mind that I ordered something to eat", Jack said closing the door

"It's okay", you assured leaving your phone and charger on the bedside table before sitting on the bed to scratch Butters between his ears, "What movie do you have in mind?"

"Actually I was going to ask you if you had something especific in mind"

"Avatar", you smiled

"Seriously?", Jack joked

"I mean, the only thing I know is that James Cameron is the director, Sigourney Weaver is in it, there are giant blue aliens, and you are in the sequels", you pointed, "And when I go to watch it in december I want to understand what's happening"

"That's fair", Jack granted starting to set up the TV, "Besides I was planning on inviting you to one of the premieres, what do you say?"

"It would be an honor, yes", you exclaimed, "And thank you for inviting me"

"It's going to be a fun event", Jack assured searching the movie and selecting it, "It's going to be Pandora themed and that, and they are going to be excited to meet you?"

"Wait a second, your castmates know about me?"

"Yeah, well I only told the younger cast, more to Trinity who is like my little sister, they think you are cool and sweet, and also my best friends, Romeo and Willa, I hope that is okay that I told them"

"I think you are one of the sweetest boys I've ever met, and yeah, it's fine by me"

Interrupting the moment a bit, the door was knocked at what Jack went to open revealing the hotel staff with the food that he ordered early while you decided to take off your shoes and sit criss-crossed on the bed letting Butters snuggle in your lap

"Hi baby", you said in a small voice giving him belly rubs, "Are you being a good boy today? Yes, you are"

"The menu for our movies date includes two flavors of pizza, pepperoni and supreme, a bowl of french fries, a small salad, two peach iced teas and a chocolate muffin"

"I hope your trainer doesn't give you hell after eating all this", you joked grabbing a french fry to eat it

"After being on a strict diet for four years, I'm finally free to eat everything", Jack joked sitting on the other side of the bed next to you, "But it's going to be a hard training when Josh and Hayley come"

"I won't let you suffer alone, don't worry"

Putting the food on the bed with a towel underneat and grabbing plates and silverware, both of you started to grab food before starting the movie with the logo of the company and a visual of the Pandora forest with the off-voice of Sam Worthington

"So, in order to go to Pandora, they have to put you in cryo for six years?", you asked, "That's how far it is from Earth?"

"Yeah, it's basically in the Alpha Centaury System, which is like more than four thousand light years from Earth"

"Fascinating"

Between eating the food, the movie continued watching the arrival of Jake on the planet and the base of the RDA

"That's Stephen Lang", you exclaimed when the scene in the cafeteria started, "He was in 'Don't Breathe', I love that movie"

"He's my character's dad, he's a really cool guy"

"I'm going need a small spoiler free resume and things I need to know of the next movie after we finish this one"

"I'll do it happily"

The movie continued with more scenes like Jake meeting Norm, Max and what would his avatar be, and the introducing of Grace Augustine

"Sigourney my queen! I love you", you exclaimed again making Jack smile with fun, "Please tell me she's in the next ones"

"She is", Jack nodded not giving the entire information

"As she should", you nodded, "I once wrote an essay about her during high school"

"Really?"

"It was for a Women's History Month on my theater class, we had to choose an actress or singer that made an impact on the industry and was inspiring to us, and I choose Sigourney Weaver and how Ellen Ripley was a pioneer for the final girls of today, like five pages, I was inspired"

"By only the title I hope you got a perfect score"

"A+, and got published on the school newspaper with the other perfect scores"

"If you're okay with it, I would love to read it"

"I'll send it to you later, I have it in my laptop"

With both of you smiling, the movie continued with more scenes of Grace discussing with Selfridge, Jake and Norm trying their avatar bodies for the first time

"I love how you can see the happinesss in his face for using his legs after so many time", you commented, "How did they did the effects?"

"Basically they put us in capture movement suits and we also had little dots on our faces that capture all that we do and later they convert us in post-production", Jack explained

"That fact made me love this movie even more"

Continuing with more scenes like Jake meeting Trudy and getting a special assigment by Quaritch, the first explore to the forest of Pandora and Jake getting lost from the group

"Jake is definetaly a himbo", you said while watching him lost at night in the woods, "How, in Pandora, do you think is a good idea to confront not only but two giant animals?"

"That was a very bad idea", Jack laughed

"Absolutely", you nodded, "Wait a minute, who is she?, she's gorgeous"

"That's Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldaña, she's the daughter of the Olo'eyktan and Tsahik, basically like the princess of the Omatikaya"

"I can already say that she's a badass and doesn't accept shit from anyone", you assured, "What is that thing in her arrow? The one that looks like a jelly, it's so cute"

"That are atokirinas, seeds of the Three of Souls, pure spirits"

"Wait a second, is this going to be a forbidden love trope?"

"Yeah, you can call it that"

"That is one of my favorite romance tropes"

More excited because a new storyline was in the movie, you continued to watch it with scenes Jake still lost in the forest, and Neytiri saving him and taking him to the clan

"Forbidden love and forced proximity, this is amazing", you said after Neytiri was ordered to teach Jake the na'vi way

While the movie continued and both of you finished the food, Jack was more focused on your face as you watched the movie and fall in love with the world of Pandora and the characters

"Skxawng", you laughed at the word, "I'm going to call my brother that, wait, did I said it right?"

"It was a perfect pronuntiation, actually"

"Yes!", you exclaimed, "How do you pronounce the other phrase they just said?"

"Oel ngati kameie, it means 'I see you', it means seeing into the other people soul, also serves as a greeting and a way to show respect"

"That is so poetic and beautiful, how do you pronounce it?"

Pausing the movie, Jack started to help you with the pronounciation of the phrase along with the hand movement

"Okay, I think I got it", you sighed after few minutes of learning it

"Let's hear you"

"Oel ngati kameie", you said a bit stiff

"That was good, now a bit more fluid"

"Oel ngati kameie", you repeated more naturally this time and doing the hand movement

"That was perfect"

"Yes!"

In a celebratory action but of you did a double high five, before returning to watch the movie, this time closer to each other

While the movie continued and after finishing the food and putting the empty plates on the desk, Jack decided to start doing a slide show with the most important things for the new movie

"You know, getting an ikran seems fun, except for the almost dying part", you commented now almost laying on the bed with Butters in your chest who was playing with your hair

"Imagine being a child who wants to become a warrior and pass you iknamiya and they tell you 'it's a deadly rite, good luck'", Jack joked causing you to laugh

By the time Jack was almost done with the slide show, the movie was on the part when Neytiri is preparing Jake for him becoming part of the clan

"He's watching her with heart eyes", you smiled

With another scene of Jake being welcomed to the clan, the scene changed to another of Jake and Neytiri running and playing in a flirty way

"They're so in love with each other", you said watching how Neytiri was taking him to the tree, "And that tree is beautiful"

"Is the Tree of Voices, you can hear the voices of ancestors by connecting the neural queue with the tree", Jack explained, now almost laying on the bed with both of your shoulders touching

"Pandora is so beautiful", you exclaimed, "Oh my god! Look how they're holding hands"

More excited, without letting go Butters, you sat more straight to watch how your new favorite fictional couple were being flirty with each other

"There's so much tension between them", you smiled, "She's using her best outfit, claim your man, Neytiri"

From the moment that Neytiri started to mention the women in the clan and Jake responding that he didn't have interest in them you became a giggling mess, which made Jack smile and start to film your reactions

"Yes!", you exclaimed when they started to kiss, which made Butters to jump off your lap to go with Jack, "Oh my god, they're doing the dirty"

At the moment that phrase left your mouth both of you ended up laughing out loud, which made Butters leave again, this time to nap on the couch, and Jack who was still recording, got on video how both of you fell on the bed in between incontrolable laughs

"Can you repeat that? please", Jack asked now focusing both of your faces

"Neytiri and Jake are doing the dirty", you repeated in between laughs before glancing to the tv, "Wait a second, what is happenning?"

Sitting again on the bed, you watched as RDA machines started to destroy the tree and Jake wasn't in his avatar body yet

"No!", you cried at the scene, "Why?"

"Need a hug?"

"Yes please", you nodded before turning to Jack and hug him for a few seconds, before acomodating again, this time laying completely in the bed with one of Jack's arms extended and you using it as a pillow and hugging baby dragon Jake, "I hate the RDA"

"They're the principal villians in the five films"

"Great to know, because everyone of my reviews on letterboxd about all the movies will include a 'fuck the RDA' in it"

Angry at the RDA and intrigued at the road the movie was going, it continued with the aftermath of the destruction of the tree with the omatikaya clan, the RDA arresting Jake, Grace and Norm and taking them to Hell's Gate, and the destruction of the Hometree along with the death of Eytukan

"I'm going to need to talk to James Cameron because it's not normal to suffer this much", you said wiping away the tears from your eyes with the sleeve of your crewneck, "Please tell me this has a good ending"

"It has, I promise", Jack assured, a bit worried of your mental health because of the next hour of the movie

With the next minutes of Jake, Grace and Norm being imprisioned and then released by Trudy and Max and got to scape you started to feel a little better, until Grace was shot

"No!", you screamed, "This can't be happening, we were so close to be safe"

Anticipating that tears will start rolling from your eyes again, Jack stretched his other arm to grab the remaining napkins from the lunch and give you one of them before leaving the rest of them on top of his chest so you could grab them when you need it

"He's got a dying instict, I swear it", you sighed after seeing Jake jump on top of the great leonopteryx, "And how every tree is more beautiful than the last?"

"That is the tree of souls, they contact Eywa and their ancestors in there", Jack explained, "It's like the most important tree"

"If the RDA dares to destroy this tree I'm going to go full Loomis mood, even my theater teacher said that I have the 'Loomis look'"

"Really?"

"It was during the rehearsals for 'Carrie: The Musical', I got the role of Chris Hargenssen, the bad girl, and while we were rehearsing the number 'Do me a favor', which is when Chris conviences Billy of helping her to get revenge of Carrie, and after the rehearsal she told me, it was amazing and that she saw the same 'crazy eyes' of my dad during Scream and I felt really good about that compliment, and felt like it made my interpretation better"

"During which year it was?"

"Sophomore, for the Halloween festival, I was fifteen at the time"

"I can't believe that your school aproved to do Carrie"

"The other options were American Psycho, Heathers and Sweeney Todd, and they thought that Carrie was the more apropiate for a school play"

"So, the options were murder, murder, murder and murder?"

"And they choose murder"

Laughing because of that joke, both of you continued to watch the movie showing how they were trying to pass the mind of Grace to her avatar body, without success

"No!", you screamed when Grace stopped breathing, "This can't be more heartbreaking, you told me she is the next movies"

"She is, playing another character"

"Still as iconic?"

"Yes"

"Perfect"

Cleaning your tears with the napkin, the movie continue with scenes of gattering another clans to help, Jake asking Eywa for help, and the battle starting

"Let's go team Pandora and Eywa!", you exclaimed the moment the battle started, "We can do it!"

Excited for what was coming, both of you watched the intense battle between the omatikaya and the RDA, suffering because of Trudy, Tsu'tey and Seze's deaths, and cheering when the animals started to show to help

"Long live Eywa!", you cheered again, "I need a shirt with that phrase"

"It's a catchy phrase"

"Neytiri, go save your man", you exclaimed when Quaritch started to approach the link pod

Almost bitting your nails, if it wasn't for the nail art in your hands, you watched as the final battle was developing between Jake and Neytiri against Quaritch, until Neytiri killed him with two arrows

"Let's go queen Neytiri", you clapped before remembering something, "Oh shit, Jake is dying"

After Neytiri saved Jake, the humans were sent to Earth and Jake passing his mind to his avatar body, ending the movie with 'I See You' by Leona Lewis

"What an amazing movie", you concluded streching to grab your phone to open letterboxd

"What are you going to rate it?", Jack asked watching your phone screen

"Five stars, like and for review 'please give my girl Neytiri some peace, she needs it' and 'fuck the RDA'", you said before submiting it, "And I'm going to put the next four on my watchlist"

"Do you want the things you need to know before the move first or the teaser?"

"The teaser, please"

Finding the teaser quickly, Jack started playing it in his laptop focusing more in your marveled reactions of the scenes showed

"There's you", you exclaimed shaking his arm, "The movie looks incredible, and the fact that everyone involved worked hard for so many years to do the best it makes it better"

Feeling emotional because the appreciation you gave for the next movies, Jack was quick to pull you into a thight hug at what you responded the same way

After the hug ended a few minutes later, Jack took half an hour to explain everything about the next movie at what you paid extreme attention, before continuing with the movie date, at what he choose to watch Riverdale

"You want to watch Riverdale?", you asked in a moved manner

"I mean, you wanted to watch something of what I'm part of, and it's fair that I do the same, besides I've wanted to watch it for a while"

Taking a few minutes to use the bathroom and configure Netflix, and also grab Butters from his spot on the sofa so he could snuggle with both of you, before starting with the first chapter
