My cat loves wool maybe more than I do (her favorite thing to do with wool is rip it to shreds....her second favorite thing is to lay on it as though brooding wooly eggs, and refuse to move), but I didn't think she'd care about the linen blanket at all.

She seems to like it a lot though. I don't know if its because it smells a lot like me (or so I imagine, as I did spin this yarn and knit it up) or because she also has an appreciation for high quality natural fibers...hard to say.

Recently bought the chickens a rat-proof feeder because the world's biggest pack of rats has moved in and I've had enough. Training the chickens to use it is going well, if slowly. (It would be a lot faster if I still lived with my chickens, or at least lived closer than 30 minutes away... 😅 I can't be there all the time to work with them.)

Midnight, however, refuses to engage with the thing and instead stands next to it looking cranky while she watches the young'uns eat.

#unfortunately the seller forgot to send me the part that makes the door close softly 🙄 he'll send it soon tho #it would definitely be easier to teach the chickens that this contraption is safe if it didn't slam closed #it would probably also be easier if they'd ever eaten out of a feeder of any sort ever in their lives 😅#midnight has been eating off the ground for 11 years and doesn't seem keen to eat out of some newfangled noisy tin can #but hopefully it'll get easier #if the chickens get hungry enough they'll eat out of anything i figure #anyway the star of these training sessions is definitely tofu. she's very shy so i didn't expect her to try it so quick but #apparently she'll do anything for bread scraps!#midnight #tofu #crow #oh yeah more quick notes #the front panel on the feeder is open in these photos bc i was still in the process of adjusting the spring tension #also I've since rearranged the bricks so it's easier for the chickens to stand in front of it #i reeeeally hope this works bc. you guys. the rats are SO bad #i was at the end of my rope i was seriously almost ready to simply get rid of all the chickens i was so stressed #things haven't been easy for me regarding all my animals i had to leave behind when i moved. i miss them every day #I'm also so not used to living in a house without a single animal. I've always had pets around til now #i want a cat but I'm holding out hope that i can convince my parents to give me MY cat. my dad refused to let me take her #and I'm worried about her. she needs more specialized care and she will never receive it in that house #sigh anyway. i have a lot on my mind

melliwyk lived in her house for over a decade, and it was The Haunted House before she moved in and lived there as a largely reclusive wizard, making it The Haunted House (they say a witch lives there!), and one of the most fun routine-breakers in her life was when kids and teens would brave the trek through the woods to dare each other to knock on her door, which she always rewarded with Haunted House theatrics

#usually baxter likes to hang out outside when she doesn't need him so he often sees kids coming well in advance and can let her know #soul's rest is a tiny little rural village outside the central dominance of the vault #so it does not take very much magic At All to give nosey locals a satisfying spook #probably she also has some kind of rube goldberg scooby-doo ass Contraptions set up in case anyone comes by when she's asleep or out #this came up in canon when we went back to her house in the campaign #some kids showed up in the night when I think zhartook? was taking a watch? and he woke mel up and she was like OH MY GOD YES WATCH--#just a lil spookin. some prestidigitation eerie noises and chill breezes #and then boggle wandered into view of the window and scared the bejeezus out of them before mel could ramp it up herself #DELIGHTFUL #in general if she was in a good mood she'd stop what she was doing and have fun prankin #if she was in a bad mood she'd do something more decisively repellant like fog cloud or Cause Fear #but always harmless-- and never breaking kayfabe if it could be helped. good bit of fun for everyone involved! you'd hate to spoil that #obviously there are plenty of people who knew who she was and that she lived there because like... she did buy groceries etc #but most kids didn't know and would never connect the occasionally brusque but geberally friendly gnome they saw sometimes with The Witch #my OCs #melliwyk

I think if I had a tilt a whirl in my backyard (but just big enough for me. don’t need a normal full sized one) it would probably help with when I am so incredibly bored and restless and understimulated
