I just watched the “25 Years of Washington St DIY” video and Internet Birthday’s Episode 2 and 3 on Thrasher YouTube as I ate an early lunch.
I love the hesh scene. Who remembers that “Hesh Vs Fresh” Thrasher cover with Wade and Daewon? Go look it up. Being from San Diego, I love that Washington St is an iconic spot in our city. I grew up seeing Burnside and Phillyside skated by pros and in videos. I’m always hyped to see Washington St pop up in videos of both local and non-local skaters. From observation, I can see all these parks are heavy. I’ve only skated Washington St and let me tell you, it’s gnarly. I can imagine the same for Burnside and Phillyside. Each of these parks have their scene, their skaters, and their clips: I’m thankful for and love them all.
Whoever “Internet Birthday” is, you cool. Those videos were dope. I’m a bit out of touch with current skaters; they’re so many. Start to finish, the videos are amazing. So so so so so many good clips. Watch them both. But, in Ep. 2, we got the GOAT.
Ishod Wair is a contender for SOTY year, every year, at least for me. This guy has the best timeline. His BMW and fashion stuff - I love it. He owns it in a way that isn’t phony. Idk, for whatever reason, that shit works for him and I don’t feel annoyed by it. Beats me. But the best thing, his skating and trick selection are still unbeatable. ATV is thankfully not used much anymore to describe skaters, but Ishod is one and he does it quietly. The fluidity at which he destroys all that he skates: I always want more. Within the next few years, I hope he goes hard on the skating and gets SOTY again.
That’s it. I just felt like gushing…
I hoped you’re all well!

Burnside Skatepark | #76
youtube
I had heard that Burnside is a toxic place to skate and while skating there it definitely upheld that reputation. There was this older 30 something loser type skater that harassed me and some of the other younger skateboarders. This weirdo followed me around and kept trying his best to intimidate me by calling me a pretty boy, asking me where’s your mommy; creepy shit like that! He asked me “did your parents buy you your clothes and skateboard” I was like yeah of course they did I’m 10 years old dumbass :-). After I called him a dumbass he skated up behind me and shoved me off my skateboard. Grown ass man doing crazy shit like that...welcome to Burnside! Besides the weirdo/creepo interactions the place is an awesome DIY park and some of the local skaters were cool and just wanted to skate and have fun like me. Cool thing about traveling is once you visit a place like Burnside in Portland you really appreciate even more a skatepark like WST (Washington St) in San Diego where there is a much more positive vibe. ***The clips at the end of the video show the guy who kept harassing me; watch out for this guy he has a thing for boys and probably men. In fact, he looks just like Bogs Diamond the sicko prisoner in the movie ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ that gets off on raping men. He looked, acted and sounded just like one of those bull-fruit gang members known to the Shawshank prisoners as the ‘The Sisters’. Be careful Burnside skateboarders, you definitely don’t want to get cornered in the laundry room by this guy!

Tumblr media
Are you tired of sharing your living space with unwanted critters? Have you ever experienced the horrors of a pest infestation that turned your peaceful home into a nightmare? If so, you're not alone. Many homeowners in Burnside and beyond have faced pest-related challenges that tested their patience and determination. In this article, we'll dive into some real-life pest nightmares that residents have encountered and explore how expert pest control in burnside have come to the rescue.
Introduction
Picture this: you're relaxing on your couch, enjoying a quiet evening, when suddenly you spot a creepy crawler scurrying across the floor. In Burnside, residents have faced their fair share of pest nightmares that have sent shivers down their spines. But fear not, for expert pest control services have emerged as the knights in shining armor, ready to restore tranquility.
The Creepy Crawlers That Invaded: Unveiling the Nightmares
Cockroach Conundrum: Sarah's Kitchen Invasion
Sarah, a Burnside resident, couldn't believe her eyes when she opened her kitchen cabinet one day to find a group of cockroaches feasting on her stored snacks. The horror intensified as she realized these unwelcome guests were multiplying rapidly.
Bedbugs: Mark's Sleepless Nights
Mark's peaceful nights turned into a series of sleepless ones as he discovered the telltale signs of bedbugs in his bedroom. The itchy bites and discomfort quickly escalated, taking a toll on his well-being.
Ant Infestation: Lily's Battle in the Pantry
Lily, an avid baker, was horrified to find her pantry under siege by relentless ants. No matter how much she cleaned, they kept coming back, threatening her precious baking supplies.
DIY Attempts and Their Downfalls
Grocery Store Remedies: Do They Really Work?
In their desperation, many homeowners turn to off-the-shelf pest control solutions. However, these often provide only temporary relief and fail to address the underlying issue.
The Dangers of Misusing Chemicals
Some individuals resort to overusing harmful chemicals in an attempt to eradicate pests. Unfortunately, this can pose serious health risks to humans and pets, making the situation even more precarious.
Calling in the Cavalry: The Expert Pest Control Solution
Thorough Inspection: Identifying the Root Cause
Expert pest control starts with a thorough inspection. Trained professionals delve into the nooks and crannies of your home, identifying entry points, nesting areas, and the types of pests involved.
Tailored Action Plans: Battling Each Infestation
Not all infestations are the same, and a one-size-fits-all approach doesn't cut it. Pest control experts tailor their strategies to target the specific pests infiltrating your home, ensuring maximum effectiveness.
Safe and Effective Treatments: Protecting Your Home
Unlike DIY methods that may be harmful, professional pest control treatments are designed to be safe for your family and pets while effectively eliminating pests. This provides peace of mind alongside a pest-free home.
Preventing Future Nightmares: Tips from the Pros
Sealing Entry Points: Keeping Pests Outside
One of the most effective preventive measures is sealing potential entry points. Cracks, gaps, and crevices are like welcome mats for pests, and sealing them off denies access.
Maintaining Cleanliness: A Key Deterrent
A clean home is less appealing to pests, as it leaves them with fewer sources of food and shelter. Regular cleaning routines can significantly reduce the risk of infestations.
Regular Inspections: Nipping Issues in the Bud
Routine inspections by pest control professionals can catch potential problems before they escalate. Early detection and prompt action can save you from future nightmares.
The Comfort of a Pest-Free Home: Success Stories
Sarah's Kitchen Reclaimed: Farewell, Cockroaches!
After enlisting the help of pest control experts, Sarah's kitchen was finally free from the relentless cockroach invasion. With tailored treatments and diligent follow-ups, her home was restored to its former glory.
Mark's Peaceful Sleep Returns: Victory Over Bedbugs
Expert pest control put an end to Mark's battle with bedbugs. His bedroom became a sanctuary once again, free from the relentless itching and sleepless nights.
Lily's Pantry Restored: Winning the Ant Battle
Through a combination of strategic treatments and proactive measures, Lily reclaimed her pantry from the persistent ant infestation. Her baking endeavors could continue without fear.
Expert Advice: An Interview with a Pest Control Specialist
To gain further insights, we sat down with Jane Martinez, a seasoned pest control specialist. According to Jane, "Early intervention is key. Don't wait for a minor issue to become a full-blown infestation. Seek professional help as soon as you notice signs."
Conclusion
Pest nightmares are a common ordeal for homeowners, but they don't have to be a permanent reality. Thanks to the expertise of pest control professionals, Burnside residents can bid farewell to infestations and enjoy the comfort of a pest-free home.

Retaining Walls – 5 Points You Need To Consider
Tumblr media
Retaining walls are a common landscape feature for commercial and residential developments in Australia, but they are also one of the most expensive and poorly understood. This article will go over the five most important factors to consider when selecting a retaining wall.
1. The Cost Of a Lifecycle The timber pole wall, made of round treated pine posts and rails, is the most common type of retaining wall in Australia. This is frequently the cheapest option for low walls up to 1.5–2 meters high and is frequently built by homeowners or weekend DIY warriors.
However, this type of wall can be quite unsightly, as it rarely has the required design life and thus becomes moldy and unsightly over time—not to mention the horrible lean when it was not designed correctly or the drainage has become blocked. When we consider the resale value of a home, the small savings from using this wall type are not so appealing. For walls of 2m or more, a concrete-faced wall may be less expensive to build and almost certainly less expensive overall.
2. Durability
The majority of retaining walls will need a building permit, which will also stipulate a 50-year design life. Although some wall types, like those with a timber face, can start to look very worn out much earlier due to mold and decay,
There are vegetated-faced walls that, with the right design consideration, can have a design life of over 50 years. These are not frequently used in residential applications and are typically covered in grass.
Concrete is a timeless material that will continue to look great for at least 50 years. A high-quality concrete facing system is unaffected by even the harshest environmental conditions, such as those found in coastal areas.
3. Essentials
Although retaining walls are primarily functional, intended to hold back soil and provide a useful change in ground level, they are frequently also highly visible due to their very nature. Think about the wall's overall effect on the building as well as your options for texture, color, and pattern. In this case, a concrete block wall will typically offer the most options.
4. Builder safety
There are many factors to consider that are not immediately obvious, such as whether you plan to build the wall yourself or hire a specialist contractor. Among them are adequate drainage, any necessary specialty equipment, temporary support for the cut face during construction, and access to the site for machinery. Many hours of frustration and delays can be avoided with a well-designed wall system and a specialized supplier who is familiar with the system.
5. Concept
Whether you like it or not, a retaining wall needs to be built like a structure. The site's conditions, including the soil's tensile strength, the presence of groundwater, and any loads placed on the wall by structures or traffic, must all be taken into account.
When a structure requires building consent, the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (MBIE) offers recommendations. Despite this, you don't want the wall to collapse because it will lower the value of your home and may cost much more to repair than it would have to in the first place.
An appealing alternative is provided by Fletcher's Retaining Walls.
In terms of design, construction, and aesthetics, Fletcher's Retaining Walls is a recent entry on the Australian retaining wall market. It is both big enough to be constructed at considerable heights without reinforcement and small enough to be constructed with commonly available tools and be adaptable to curves and corners. The innovative interlocking system and built-in drainage areas of Fletcher's Retaining Walls enable quick installation and a highly adaptable and durable outcome.

dumbass rant incoming
honestly most skate parks do not do anything for me as far as places to skate go
they're nice for sure don't get me wrong but aesthetically I always thought that they flow too nicely from one spot to the next, and you can always see some obvious expected line that whoever developed the skate park wanted you to do
the DIY skate parks are a thing that has always existed, even other parks were a consideration, there's a bunch of them in like Daewon Song and Tilt Mode videos, the hallowed Burnside Skate Park under the bridge in Portland and the many DIY skate parks in Brazil, and there is an aesthetic to that sort of like, borderline dirt trash vibe where your skate park is deliberately trying to look dirty and fucked up
and natch the whole thing with skating transition/bowl/pipe (I propose we name a new form of skateboarding the "bong")
but with legit street skating you get to find the cool lines where they don't quite naturally flow from one another but you can explore every angle in a way you can't with a skate park, because a skate park is a linear experience, it exists on nearly two axis rather than 3
and then there's the other factor of architecture, the truly great skate spots like Van Nuys City Hall, Embarcadero, New York Courthouse all get to have the sickest background, and DIY spots get to have this gnarly disgusting mix of whatever, while skate parks always look like concrete in a way that completely eschews aesthetic

Just bopping around town this summer in my absolutely favorite outfit. The one stop crop stop and my crazy tie-dyed burnside bibs. Hand knit and hand sewn. I freaking love this outfit and I wish I could wear it everyday. Actually considering knitting a third crop top just because I feel like I need it…

@kevin_kowalski 🔥 Burnside 📸 @daveswift01 “People all around the world are ripping their own creations harder and faster than ever. More and more DIY spots are born every day as our solar system spins out of control, throughout the ever-expanding galaxies. The Milky Way is host to a plethora of concrete continuums, creating chaos, yet giving us hope and order. In the times we live, I consider us very blessed to have this brotherhood of hard working creators. Never say forever, for we must fight to keep our moment from ever passing the hearts and minds of future generations. We have lots to learn, but we also have a little bit to teach and leave behind. To the people I’ve met, the good times we’ve had, you know you’re having a good time when you look around and see your boys [and girls] having a good time. This is only the beginning of the end of the beginning of the raddest world we could have created together. You are a creator, amidst the chaos. Congratulations. We did it. Now go out there and make some waves.” - Mark “Monk” Hubbard - @grindlineskateparks @grindlinetheband Monk Quote from the “DIY Life” story in @juicemagazine #76 #skate #burnside #portland #oregon #DIY #skatepark #thankyou #hubbard #neverforget #thanks #kevinkowalski #daveswift #skateboarding (at Burnside Skatepark) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKjsJebl6lg/?igshid=159gxs9j3cmoh

Can I get something for Julia from the adventure zone? Love this blog!
This one took me a while, since the Adventure Zone Wiki doesn’t have much info on you, but I tried hard to find things you’d like. I hope you like it!
First, you could make this Mini Gazebo [video] to remind you of your wedding day!
Next, you could try making one of these Simple Rings [video]! You don’t need any tools for them!
Since your hometown is Raven’s Roost, try making this Raven Jar Decoration [video]!
If you’d like to have some nice decor (indoor or out!) referencing different cities, try this Fantasy Sign Post!
And finally, since this all leads back to roleplaying, you could make this Giant D20 Decoration!

Today’s compilation:
Fat Possum: Not the Same Old Blues Crap 1997 Blues / Electric Blues / Lo-Fi Blues / Punk-Blues
Up and running since the early 90s, the Fat Possum label has really managed to carve out a nice little niche for itself as a showcaser of raw, undiscovered blues talent. Rather than build a new label with a roster comprised of mostly veterans between record deals, this label has consistently made it a top priority to sign brand new artists instead. And they've been able to do it as a subsidiary of the juggernaut punk label, Epitaph. So, kudos to them for expanding the pool of accessible blues. New names, fresh sounds, good approach.
The title on this comp is a pretty apt one, too. Fat Possum, at least in the late 90s, appeared to specialize in a real lo-fi and diy style of blues. Now, sometimes that works exceedingly well and it sounds like you're listening to a blues-bented Velvet Underground or something, and other times it just feels lacking and monotonous. Maybe a fine line, but it's definitely there.
Two tracks on this comp stand out in particular to me. First, R.L. Burnside's "Snake Drive." It's a jammy piece of blues-garage rock that comes with sorta tight, underlying grooves and features Burnside going on some real nutty, strung-out, improvisational guitar adventures. It's nearly seven minutes long and it's fantastic.
Second, "Been Here and Gone" by Elmo Williams. An instrumental mix of thick blues guitar scratch and thinly surging rock and roll plucks. Plus, an uptempo drumbeat and accompanying lo-fi harmonica, too. Great stuff.
And lastly, it's not a highlight, but it at least deserves an honorable mention. The Neckbones' "Crack Whore Blues" kinda sounds like The Cramps, which is awesome, but the band doesn't really do anything else new with that sound 😕. Oh well.
Decent modern blues comp overall. Different from your typical, established blues sound at the time. Progressive.
Highlights:
R.L. Burnside - "Snake Drive" Elmo Williams - "Been Here and Gone"

I'm pleased to announce the second DC heroine from the Warner Bros. Consumer Products X Smart Doll collaboration - Batgirl: The Batgirl Of Burnside. If you are not familiar with this version of Batgirl then maybe this would be a good opportunity to grab hold of the comic to prepare for her release:- "Barbara Gordon’s ready for a fresh start. She’s packing her bags, crossing the bridge, and heading to Gotham’s coolest neighborhood: Burnside. And when a freak fire burns up her costume and gear, Babs has the chance to become a whole new Batgirl! But she barely slips on her new DIY costume before Batgirl starts trending as Gotham’s first viral vigilante--and attracting a new wave of enemies who want her social-media spotlight for themselves. Meanwhile, the girl beneath the gear’s got a whole new crew of friends, college classes that are kicking her Bat-butt and a dating scene that would make anyone want to swipe left on life. This bat’s done living in the shadows. But will the bright lights of Burnside burn her for good?" More nitty gritty about her accessories closer to the time of release. Forgotten Playgrounds: Unloved Space
This series of photographs from photographer Guillem Vidal tugs at the heartstrings. It is a series of lost playgrounds, forgotten, abandoned, overlooked. Part of me starts to hum “Puff the Magic Dragon’ as it all points to the melancholy of lost childhood. In the photographer’s own words...
This series shows play areas for children or adults. Ranging from ephemeral children’s cabins t organised spaces built with durable materials. These spaces, once alive an now forgotten, are invaded by nature in the slow process of its transformation into ruins.
It is also worth noting that this makes a neat connection to the ways in which skateboarders make unloved urban space playgrounds. Each of these photographs hint at the fun that must have been had there. Similarly the banal urban spaces of the everyday ache with a possibility of joy. Perhaps a skateboarder, or an explosive parkour route, or  a pending canvas for the graffiti artist.
In the 1970s a variety of skateparks slowly began to crumble away as their poor design intersected with the more general fall from grace and popularity of skateboarding. Similarly there are numerous badly built and designed skateparks that now appear much like the photos above. Not necessarily forgotten, but certainly unloved. Might we see some of the best parks, and DIY spots one day similarly forgotten. Imagine a Southbank or Burnside destitute, or the Venice Beach Skatepark fractured and full of weeds.
