When I think of Ketchikan the first thing that comes to mind is of course “Burger Queen”. Seattle Burger @ Burger Queen. (I missed this place) First burger of the season. It is seriously one of my favourite burgers I have ever had. I always look forward to this when I come to Alaska. Burger Queen, 518 Water Street, Ketchikan, Alaska. •The Burger Queen Legacy • Like many great restaurants the Burger Queen began as a food truck on the dock in Ketchikan way back in 1980. Stan Hewitt built a customized charcoal grill for that small truck for his daughter Connie, the original “Burger Queen”. It didn’t take long for locals and visitors alike to discover the sensational smoky taste of their delicious handmade burgers and soon a legend was born. In 1982 Connie married Jim Widmeyer, a commercial fisherman, so naturally the menu expanded to include local Alaskan Seafood. In 1984 the truck moved to this spot by the tunnel and eventually demand for their popular menu items made Connie and Jim realize they had outgrown the truck and it was time to build a permanent building. In 1991 Connie’s sister Debbie took over the business and she and her husband Shawn Rahr run it to this day. Along with their talented young crew they continue to serve savoury charcoal grilled burgers, Alaskan Seafood, milkshakes and much more.
