so i definitely want to ask about Malachi's handwriting. and also! thinking about signatures made me think about credit cards which leads me to ask : after rent and groceries, what does Malachi spend the most money on? What does he think about saving up for, if he thinks about that at all?
This is the ask that actually made me Google how much the average LAPD officer gets paid. (Defund the poliiiiiiice āØ)
Anyway Malās handwriting is #bad, and he stashes all his extra income in a savings account that is making, like, 0.02% interest and he does not think about it at all, which I imagine drives Jan insane. His car is a money pit, but I feel like it's a death-by-a-thousand-cuts situation. He never has to stop and save up for whatever part or tool he needs, but the project is just never done.
I think he spends a decent amount on restaurants, too. But I don't think he has any concrete financial goals. That'd require him to think about the future more than he does. Paul should maybe talk to him more about that sort of thing.
Same question about money spending back @ Jan, because it's a good one. š
#adding this one to the JanMal pile#Mal-core#I think someone had to sit Mal down at some point and explain to him that he needs to build up a credit history to. like. do things.#in his ideal world he'd just pay for everything with cash/debit and only have one account to keep track of#I don't think he's bad with money I just think he's perfectly happy with his current financial situation#and he's bad at setting goals in general

"Boil water to turn fan" as if multistage steam turbine generators are not one of the sexiest kinds of machines every made

nuclear power is impressive until you get up to why. "we use the most precisely engineered machinery ever created to split atoms to release energy" oh yeah how come? "boil water to turn a fan" get the fuck out
#its genuinely crazy the math and engineering that go into making these absolutely massive steam turbines#its an incredible balancing act to optimize between the interconnected variables of pressure velocity and temperature in order#to extract as much energy as possible from the steam as it moves through the system#especially like. those generators need to maintain a very precise rotational speed in order to prevent the coupled generator#from going out of phase with the power grid#(3000 RPM for 50 Hz grids and 3600 RPM for 60 Hz grids)#like the reactor part sounds like a lot of engineering work (and it is!) but like. the turbine is fucking incredibly impressive too#each one of those turbine stages needs to have very specifically shaped blades in order to control steam pressure drop and steam velocity#and the blades need to be able to physically handle being in a wet (at least for nuclear plants where the steam is pretty wet) high temp#environment and constantly being spun at high rotational speeds for decades at a time.#we had to develop specialized nickel titanium superalloys with tightly controlled crystalline structures in order to build turbines this big#stare into the depths of āwow we really just use steam to spin a big fan that sounds simpleā and you encounter#the lifes work of thousands of mathematicians computer engineers material scientists and mechanical engineers#the first device we could call a steam turbine was made as a toy in tthe first century ancient greece and egypt#the first steam turbine with a practical use was described in 1551 in Ottoman Egypt. it was used to turn a spit of meat over a fire.#the first modern multistage impluse steam turbine was made in 1884 and revolutionized electricity generation and marine propulsion#in the 141 years since there have been more improvements than one could even list#from major design changes credited to great men to miniscule efficiencies and optimizations gained from tweaking the composition of an alloy#idk. i think its beautiful to think about the web of human knowledge woven collectively by thousands of hands across history#could you imagine what the ancient greek engineers who first put together the prototype for an aeolipile would think to see what we have#made now. could they even recognize our designs as belonging to the same category of object as their little toy#anyway#appreciate the humble steam turbine with the same eye you give to the reactor core#mine#just my thoughts

Personal Loans for People with No Credit History
Introduction
Having no credit history can make it challenging to access financial products such as credit cards and loans. However, obtaining a personal loan is still possible, even if you have no prior credit record. With the right approach, a personal loan can be a stepping stone to building your credit profile and improving financial stability.
In this guide, we will explore how individuals with no credit history can secure a personal loan, the best lenders to consider, and how responsible borrowing can set you on the right financial path.
Understanding Credit History and Its Impact
What Is Credit History?
Credit history is a record of an individualās borrowing and repayment behavior. It helps lenders assess your creditworthiness and determine whether to approve your loan application.
Challenges of No Credit History
Without a credit history, lenders have no reference to evaluate your repayment habits. This can result in:
Higher interest rates
Limited loan options
Lower approval chances
Despite these challenges, various lenders offer personal loans designed for individuals with no credit history.
How to Get a Personal Loan Without Credit History
1. Apply for a Loan with a Co-Signer
A co-signer with a good credit score can improve your chances of getting approved for a personal loan. The co-signer agrees to repay the loan if you default, reducing the risk for lenders.
2. Opt for a Secured Personal Loan
A secured personal loan requires collateral, such as fixed deposits or assets. Since the lender has a security guarantee, approval chances increase even without a credit history.
3. Look for Lenders Specializing in No Credit Loans
Certain financial institutions offer personal loans tailored for borrowers with no credit history. These lenders evaluate other factors, such as income stability and employment status.
4. Provide Proof of Income and Employment
Lenders are more likely to approve your personal loan application if you can demonstrate a steady source of income. Having employment stability and a reasonable income can help mitigate the absence of credit history.
5. Consider a Small Loan Amount
Applying for a smaller loan amount increases your chances of approval. Once you establish a history of timely repayments, you can qualify for larger loans in the future.
Best Personal Loan Options for People with No Credit History
If you're looking for a personal loan without an existing credit record, here are some lenders that offer suitable options:
IDFC First Bank Personal Loan
Bajaj Finserv Personal Loan
Tata Capital Personal Loan
Axis Finance Personal Loan
Axis Bank Personal Loan
These lenders provide flexible loan options with varying interest rates and repayment terms, making them suitable for individuals with no credit history.
How a Personal Loan Can Help You Build Credit
A personal loan can be instrumental in establishing and improving your credit score. Hereās how:
1. Establishes a Credit History
By taking out a personal loan and making timely repayments, you begin building a credit profile, which enhances your future borrowing capacity.
2. Improves Payment History
Your credit score is heavily influenced by payment history. Timely repayments on your personal loan demonstrate responsible borrowing behavior, improving your creditworthiness.
3. Diversifies Your Credit Mix
Credit bureaus favor borrowers with a mix of credit types. Having a personal loan alongside a credit card can positively impact your credit score over time.
4. Enhances Future Loan Opportunities
Once you establish a solid credit history with responsible repayment, youāll be eligible for better loan terms, lower interest rates, and higher borrowing limits.
Common Mistakes to Avoid When Applying for a Personal Loan
While obtaining a personal loan without credit history is possible, be cautious of the following mistakes:
Missing Loan Payments ā Late or missed payments can harm your newly built credit profile.
Borrowing More Than You Can Repay ā Taking a loan beyond your repayment capacity can lead to financial stress.
Applying for Multiple Loans Simultaneously ā Too many loan applications can result in multiple hard inquiries, negatively affecting your credit score.
Ignoring Loan Terms and Conditions ā Always read the fine print to understand interest rates, repayment schedules, and additional fees.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Can I get a personal loan without credit history?
Yes, many lenders offer personal loans for individuals without credit history. Secured loans, co-signed loans, and income-based approvals are common options.
2. What is the minimum income required to get a personal loan?
Income requirements vary by lender, but most lenders prefer a stable monthly income to ensure repayment capability.
3. Will applying for a personal loan hurt my credit score?
Applying for multiple loans in a short period can result in hard inquiries, which may slightly lower your score. However, a single loan application will have a minimal impact.
4. How long does it take to build credit with a personal loan?
It typically takes three to six months of timely repayments to establish a credit history and see a positive impact on your credit score.
5. Can I repay my personal loan early?
Many lenders allow early repayment, but some charge prepayment fees. Check with your lender before making an early payment.
Conclusion
Getting a personal loan without a credit history is possible with the right approach. Whether you choose a secured loan, apply with a co-signer, or opt for a lender specializing in no-credit loans, responsible borrowing can help you build your credit score over time.
If you're considering applying for a personal loan, explore options from trusted lenders like:
IDFC First Bank Personal Loan

By making timely payments and borrowing responsibly, you can turn a personal loan into a valuable tool for financial growth and future credit opportunities

#this is why you don't buy shit on credit #the likelihood of it financially destroying you is high
I'm sorry, but that is absolutely the wrong take in response to this.
Buying on credit is not the problem; in fact, in many cases, it's the only way to do something. Think about buying a house; most people don't exactly have the cash to buy outright! Oftentimes buying a car, or furniture, is the same kettle of fish. Heck, that's how I bought my furniture! 12-months no interest, yes please!
The problem comes when you lose track of how much you have bought on credit--and you can lose track of how much you've bought just as easily with a checkbook as you can with a credit card or loans.
When I bought my furniture on 12-month no-interest financing, I made damn sure that I wasn't committing to more than I knew I could pay in a month, and I kept track to make sure that I had it paid off before the promotional period ended. And look! No problems!
The people the above person is talking about have purchased much, much more than they can conceivably pay off independently. That is the issue with that scenario. They've spent more on transportation than I spent on my house, given the economic bracket he's describing they probably spent a minimum of $350k on the house and that's in my incredibly low cost-of-living area--on the coasts who knows how much it would be--and they have more on their credit cards than I spent on my car.
So yes, they have a problem with finances--but the problem isn't the existence of credit. The problem is the absence of accountability. After all, I, too, have a car loan, a house loan, and credit cards; the difference is, I live within my means.

#also#at least in the US#you CANNOT build your credit without HAVING CREDIT HISTORY#which means that saying 'oh no credit cards' does NOTHING to help people long-term#the key is PROPERLY MANAGED CREDIT CARDS#is this a pet peeve? yes#sorry Kuro I still love you#you did not know you were unlocking my vent valve#...technically I no longer have a car loan#I paid that bitch off#but being able to get a car loan in the first place is the reason I don't need to replace my car now

Your credit score is one of the most important measures of your financial health. It tells lenders at a glance how responsibly you use credit. The better your score, the easier you will find it to be approved for new loans or new lines of credit. A higher credit score can also open the door to the lowest available interest rates when you borrow.
