No, it wasn’t! This is Eddie we’re talking about. The man is excellent in hiding and masking his emotions. He was hiding his depression for a long time; hiding jealousy is nothing to him. People expect that when someone gets jealous they would start to look at that person funny or say stupid things around them. Kinda like Buck.

But most of the time you don’t show it at all! Even when you’re screaming inside. Eddie and Buck are two different people, Eddie is calmer and has a better control on his emotions but Buck is more sensitive. So of course he’s gonna be more open about his jealousy towards Eddie and Tommy.

But the “I didn’t know you could bring a date to a bachelor party.” Says it all. Maybe not when you just hear what he’s saying but when you look at his face.

He’s smiling but I feel like his eyes aren’t. It’s like he’s keeping himself from saying something wrong. And we all know that Ryan is a master of micro expressions, right? The double takes, etc.

He’s happy that Buck is happy but something in him doesn’t want to see those two together. Maybe he doesn’t even know what is this weird feeling but it’s definitely jealousy and it’s definitely there.

to me it makes perfect sense that when buck comes out to him, eddie doesn’t hesitate for a moment to be supportive. because he loves buck (to the core). so of course he’s gonna be supportive and he’s gonna make sure buck knows that everything is ok.

eddie is a little overwhelmed, he’s taking in a lot of information. he just learned something very important and unexpected about buck and that’s already enough to have him stop and think “oh, really?”. but buck didn’t go on a date with just some guy, did he? he went out with someone who he was also getting close to, and he had no idea. and let’s not forget that eddie was already going through a crisis of his own, which made buck’s confession hit even harder.

out of all these emotions, he choses to focus on the most important one: making sure buck feels safe and loved. accepted. and so he reassures him, he jokes around as he always does and then hugs him. that’s exactly what buck needs and so that’s what he does.

but what happens after that? what happens when eddie actually takes a moment to sit with this information? is he gonna start rethinking his relationship with buck (or even his interactions with tommy)? is he gonna realise that what he and buck have isn’t just a normal friendship? is he gonna wonder if he never saw buck that way because he didn’t think (or he didn’t know) he was an option? what then?

that’s what i wanna know.

obsessed with how INSANE we are as a collective like we get two STILLS from an episode with absolutely zero context in which they are sat a good six feet from each other looking VAGUELY distraught and my entire dash is full of people waxing poetry about how it's clear how much they rely on each other and how the trust they have is comparable only to that of ancient greek soldiers. and they’re all correct!

I don’t want it at the expense of an Eddie coming out arc…

Bc listen, I read a post talking abt how the writers probably won’t give both of them a really flushed out Queer Realization Arc bc it would be redundant, which like, okay sure, yes, I can see why you wouldn’t want to have two main, male characters going through the exact same thing, so sure, whatever, BUT -

I feel like, out of Buddie, Eddie is going to be the one that really struggles with coming to terms with his sexuality.

Eddie, who had to be The Man Of The House at 10 years old. Eddie, who grew up in the Deep South. Eddie, whose family is Catholic. Eddie, who already had a strained relationship with his judgmental parents. Eddie, who had a WIFE. Eddie, who says that what he had with Shannon was magic & compares every relationship he had to her. Eddie, who was in the military, which is infamous for DADT. Eddie, whose aunt constantly pushes him at random women because he needs to not be alone. Eddie, who canonically suffers from comp-het, saying that dating women feels like putting on a performance, not that he understands why. Eddie, who dated Ana & was planning on staying with her, even though he was unhappy, for his son.

I think Buck would be way chiller with realizing he’s queer - if he doesn’t already know, which is my fav head-cannon - & I feel like he wouldn’t struggle as much bc it’s Eddie, & Eddie is his best friend, and gender wouldn’t play as big a part for him as I think it would for Eddie.

I would love for them both to have an arc where they worked through their expectations when it comes to relationships & realize that they’re queer, but idk man, I feel like Eddie is going to be the one to really struggle & he deserves to really have that flushed out.

Idk, I’ve been thinking about this ever since I saw that post & nobody I know watches 9-1-1 😭

Because some of you are being weird again, I just wanna go on the record and say that my dream scenario is no canon buddie this season.

Now that we have the renewal, they can take the time to develop the relationship to a romantic level without having to cram in there two coming out storylines and whatever else it'll take, when literally dying wasn't enough for these two.

I wanna see it being acknowledged this season, yes, the attraction, the feelings, but I wanna see them get there.

And just fyi you can fuck other guys before you settle down with the The One, so would you guys start acting normal about the possibility of Buck being with anyone but Eddie?

He has been in multiple relationships since they've known each other. If you think it's any different when it's a guy, boy, do I have news for you.

There’s something about Eddie saying he’s a nester yet being completely incapable of doing such nesting with any of the women we’ve ever seen him with. Shannon was not only his wife, but Chris’ mother, and yet he didn’t feel ready to let her see their son once she came back… I’d even be willing to say he convinced himself into redoing his life with her because it made sense, and not because he was in love with her (again). Ana, however lovely she was, was also very clearly the product of Eddie putting Chris first. We see this when he has The Conversation with Buck: “Chris loves her”, “is that enough?” and soon we find out it isn’t. “We became a ready made family, and I’m not ready for that”. Finally we have Marisol, who he shoved inside his house only to kick out a few days later. But then… cut to Buck and Chris playing video games together, and doing some sort of scrapbook thing for Christmas, and visiting Santa, and going to the zoo. Cut to Buck picking Chris up from school, and being the first person Chris calls when Eddie breaks down (and goes to when he’s mad at his dad). Cut to homemade meals and difficult talks at any of their kitchens, and carrying each other physically and emotionally through the worse possible times. Cut to “there’s no one I trust with my son more than you,” and “this changes nothing between us.” Yeah,,, Eddie can’t nest with the women we’ve seen him with, because he already nested with Buck.
